To navigate much easier through this guide, I added the search system, which
works just by following these simple steps:
- Highlight the "Section Code" of the section which you wish to go and copy it
(CTRL+C).
- Press CTRL+F to bring up the search sub-menu.
- Paste (CTRL+V) the "Section Code" and press ENTER twice to be where you
wanted to be. Just like magic!

Hello... well, this is rather unexpected. Haha, yeah, I wasn't planning to
write for this game but I said: "Hey, what the hell. Why not?!". Yep, since I
already wrote for the original MGS3 game, I'll add a walkthrough for this game
as well. Not much of an introduction, I know. Read the one I wrote for the
original guide, if you want an introduction. Just to let you know, I love this
game as much as the original one.
There's also some things I want to address, so please read the following
paragraphs:
- My walkthrough is pretty dry to me. I'm writing this for free and because I
love this game (just like I mentioned above). If you are looking for tons of
eloquent ways for me to say "enter here and a scene triggers", you are going to
be so disappointed. This guide is way, way too big to begin with, and lofty
language does not help.
- If you take a quick scan thru my guide, you won't find the explanations for
battle basics, main menu, saving-loading, etc. Why, you ask? Well, because the
game manual and in-game tutorials do a perfect job explaining the battle
system.
- The usage of abbreviations. When you're in my place or any who writes for
GameFAQ's or any other page, writing a guide for any game of such proportions,
people complain about using too many abbreviations. You have no idea how
helpful abbreviations are. It also looks better in every aspect you think.
- My guide is not the only one out there. I'm not forcing you to use mine, but
if you use others, then you better be prepared for lots of spoilers, which will
ruin the element of surprise for you. Also, people that have problems with how
I write my guide are in great minority.
- The spoilers are great issues in making guides. I am a player of the game,
just like you are. The first 3 times I played through this game was completely
by myself. I didn't use any guides, therefore nothing was spoiled for me. All
the story's ups and downs that were supposed to surprise me had such effect.
And I really think it's not fair spoiling such story elements to you.
With all this said, let's start with the guide! Enjoy this guide and remember
that it is a spoiler-free, so you don't have to worry about important info of
the game being spoiled.

In the aftermath of the Second World War, the world was torn in two between
East and West. It was the beginning of a new era - the Cold War.
October 16, 1962. The President of the United States received word that the
Soviet Union had deployed nuclear missiles in Cuba. The world trembled in fear
as the prospect of nuclear war loomed ever closer. After days of tense
regulations, the Soviets finally agreed on the 28th to withdraw their missiles
from Cuban soil. With the resolution of this incident, later to be known as the
Cuban Missile Crisis, it seemed that humanity had survived yet another threat
to its existence.
However, there was a secret condition in the deal that put an end to the
crisis. Nikolai Stephanovich Sokolov, a Soviet scientist who had defected to
the West, was to be sent back to the Soviet Union. The U.S government agreed to
this stipulation, and returned Sokolov to his native land. Little did they know
that Sokolov was to be designer of a nightmarish weapon. Now, with Sokolov back
in their hands, the Soviets are ready to resume its development. If this weapon
is completed, it will mark the beginning of a new age of fear.
August 1964. Realizing at last the urgency of the situation, the CIA forms a
plan to recapture Sokolov. They dispatch the covert FOX unit to Sokolov's
research facility, located to the south of the great Soviet fortress of Groznyj
Grad. Led by former SAS member Major Zero, FOX is a next-generation special-
forces unit that operates both as a specialized combat group and as a covert
intelligence outfit. The FOX unit's modus operandi is to send a single agent,
backed by radio support from afar, into enemy territory to carry out solo
sneaking missions.
August 24. A lone soldier swoops down from out of the blue. The man's code
name is Naked Snake.

A new feature in the MGS world. You're now able to cure Snake from possible
injuries he takes while fighting enemies or surviving through the vast Russian
jungle. There are several injuries, as well as many supplies for you to heal
yourself.
When you're injured, part of your stamina gauge will turn orange, meaning that
you've been injured. Once injured, your stamina will deplete faster than usual.

Boss. Was taught by The Boss one-on-one all about combat, destruction,
espionage, psychology, etc. from in the 50s. Created CQC with her.
~-~ ZERO ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
Commander of special forces unit "FOX". Support's Snake on his mission via
radio. Based on his experience in the SAS, he suggests the founding of the
covert missions unit "FOX" -- a totally new unit with the combining of a
special forces unit with espionage elements -- in the Cold War era.
Participating in the Virtuous Mission is his way of proving that his suggestion
is an effective one.

FOX's support member. Provides surgical and medical information via radio. A
movie fanatic with a tremendously skewed taste.

FOX's support member. An expert on weapons, equipment, and cutting edge
technology. Supports Snake via radio. Many of Snake's items such as the

Full name Yevgeny Borisovitch Volgin. A GRU colonel. Uses electric bolts in
his attacks. Known and feared as Thunderbolt by the West.

A major working for Colonel Volgin. Leads the Ocelot Unit -- an elite unit of
the GRU Spetsnaz. A ricochet genius but lacks real battle experience.

Full name Nikolai Stephanovich Sokolov. Head of the secret OKB-754 Design
Bureau. Developer and designer of the Shagohod. Developed numerous weapons with
the funding by the Khrushchev faction. A family man who is worried about his
wife and daughter whom he left in the United States.

Female KGB spy who supports Snake. Former NSA codebreaker. Uses a Mauser. A
motorbike fanatic.

Also known as The Joy. Legendary heroine who brought victory to the Allies in
WWII by leading the Cobra Unit -- a team consisting of the best soldiers of the
world. Spent all of the 50s with Snake and taught him all that she could. With
Snake, she created CQC. She was a colleague of Major Zero in the SAS.
~-~ THE SORROW ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
While lacking combat capabilities, he has the ability of a medium. He can talk
to the dead and obtain battle information from the dead. By bringing down
spirits of the dead into him, he can assume their combat capabilities.
~-~ THE FEAR ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
A boobytrap master. He is double-jointed in both elbows. He can climb and jump
around in trees. He carries a crossbow called the William Tell and a bowgun
called Little Joe.

Wears a Soviet spacesuit and uses a flamethrower as his weapon. After the war,
he goes up into space as a cosmonaut in an unofficial mission. When coming back
into the atmosphere, he suffered severe burns all over his body in an accident.

A big man over 2 meters (6'7''). Controls a swarm of hornets. He carries
venomous bees called bullet bees in his body. He releases them from his mouth.

An old sniper (over 100 years old) born in the early 1860s. The father of all
sniping techniques. He has moss growing inside and outside his body. He can go

and turn the power ON. You'll be enjoying 20+ hours this game, so your purchase
is worth it, but even if it only lasted 5+ hours, the story and characters are,
to put it simple, beautiful.
After watching the intro to this beautiful game, press start and you'll have
five options at the Main Menu, which are: New Game, Load Game, Snake vs Monkey,
Options and Special. Choose New Game and let the magic begin.
After the opening and the deployment of our hero Snake, the game starts with a
Snake without equipment.

Ok now, as you gain control for the first time, go W over the tree branches
covering the path to find some Reticulated Pythons. These are quite delicious,
so make sure to kill them. Now go all the way E, then N through a narrow grassy
path and grab 'Life Medicine' at the end. Now fall down the little hill to the
left and climb up the tree like Major Tom told you. Once on top, walk on top of
the backpack and press Triangle to grab the backpack.
Watch the scene which explains quite a lot of things, so make sure to memorize
everything. When you regain control, go N to reach the next area,

Follow the grassy path until you get to an open area. There are several
crocodiles here, but to kill one, I recommend putting it to sleep with Mk22 and
then knifing it to death, as well as quicksand, so try not staying too much in
them. The Indian Gavials drop three rations of food, and it's quite tasty, so
make sure to kill some before proceeding. First examine the first patch of
grass to find 'Bug Juice' Check the E side of the area and in middle of the
grass to find 'Grenade'.
Check the middle island (there are 2 crocodiles) for 'Mk22 Ammo x24'. Also
locate the Hornet's Nest on the tree. Shoot it down from a prudent distance to
receive it as food; another delicious ration. Now check the NW side to get
'Mk22 Suppressor', then go N to another little area, where you can find Golova,
Reticulated Python, etc. Go N to reach the next area.

After the radio call and the scene, look for a guard coming your way. Quickly
go to the W grassy area and go through the tree stump N of the grass to find
'Bug Juice'. Equip yourself with the Woodland Face Paint and Leaf Camouflage.
Now, when the guard is close enough, shoot it in the head with the Mk22. Hide
the body in the grass and go E to find a path that leads you to a grassy area
with 'SVD'. Return to the previous area and go N to find a fork. Go E hugging
the S wall and you'll come across a tree stump. Jump over it to find 'Stun
Grenade', then go E to a large area, where a guard should be at the N side.
Enter the tree stump all the way on the E side to find 'Mk22 Ammo x24'. N of
this stump in another one on the floor. Go through it to find 'Thermal
Goggles', then go all the way to the NW side and inside a tree stump is
'Grenade'. Now go N to reach Dolinovodno.

After the quick scene, shoot the Hornet's Nest shown to you in the video to
have the soldier run away to the other side of the bridge. Quickly run after
him and the other guards will run away the same way as the first one. On the
other side of the bridge, quickly hide in the first patch of grass (on the
right side of the bridge).
Quickly dispose the guard that's there, hide the body (you can throw it into
the river), and quickly go to the W side of the area to find a little cave
under the bridge. You have to stick to the wall in order to get there. You'll
find 'XM16E1', 'Mk22 Ammo x24' and 'Pentazemin'. Stay down here until you see
the 3 guards start crossing the bridge. After this, quickly run to the next
area N.

After the quick scene and radio talk, you'll see a guard in the forking path
in front of you and another one a little bit to the N. Hide in the grass NE of
your starting position and shoot down the first guard. Quickly approach the N
side and take out the next one. Kill if desired and hide the bodies. Now go all
the way E until you hit some metal barrels, check the N path to find another
lone guard. Take him out and go up the side ladder.
Up here, equip the Splitter Face Camouflage, as well as Tree Bark Camouflage.
Now look down to find a guard patrolling Sokolov's room. Take him out too and
check the S path to find another guard, as well as the outer part of the
buildings. Once you've taken care of all the enemies, it's time to get some
goodies.
At the forking path near the entrance, enter the building through the W side
and check the SW corner to find 'M37', then go up the metal ladder to get
'XM16E1 Suppressor' and 'XM16E1 Ammo x80'. Go down one set of stairs, jump off
and go N, enter the building and grab 'Life Medicine'. Return to the outer
area, crawl in the grass and enter the lower area of the building. The items
you can get down here are 'Mousetrap' and another item, which I totally forgot,
I think it's 'Mk22 Ammo x24'.
Now enter Sokolov's room to trigger a rather long scene. After Snake kicks
Ocelot's ass, return to Dolinovodno to trigger a scene where you meet up with
Sokolov. The Shagohod is the equivalent to Metal Gear Rex in the original MGS1
and in The Twin Snakes. The Boss is also here, as well as Colonel Volgin.
When you regain control (not really), you must heal yourself using the CURE
tab in the Survival Viewer. Para-Medic shows you how, so I won't explain here.
After all the scenes, the real intro of the game starts, Snake Eater, sung by
Cynthia Harrell. It's one of my favorites intros of all times, so enjoy it for
the rest of the game.

There's really not much to do in this area, except for hunting at least 1
Flying Squirrel and Otton Frog. Besides from that, nothing besides going to the
next area. So go N all the way from where you start to reach Dremuchij North.

Pretty much like the previous area, nothing to do. But start going N and drop
down the cliff to the W. Hunt for some animals if you want but when the path
starts going N, look for a Green Tree Python. Move a little more to the N to
trigger another scene with The Boss. Once it's over, you can go all the way to
Dremuchij South, but there are only some Chaff, Stun and Normal Grenades, but
it really isn't worth going all the way there.
Anyway, from where you're left after the video, change your Camouflage to
Woodland and Flecktarn, then hide in the grass nearby. Some guards will come,
so wait until one of them leaves to take care of the other one (beware though,
that you don't have a gun). Hide the body and wait for the timer to end. Now go
N and at the fork, you can take any path, but I recommend going N and then to
the next area.

As you enter, go to where you shot the Hornet's Nest back then and when the
guard's back is faced at you, slide down the cliff and CQC him. If the guard
spots you or the body, hide behind a tree and use the Knife if he starts
shooting at you. Afterwards, cross the bridge and go to the little cave under
the bridge to find 'Life Medicine', 'Raindrop Camo' and 'Smoke Grenades'.
Now proceed to Rassvet.

There are no enemies this time, so make sure to grab all the items. From the
fork, go N, enter the building and go up the stairs to find 'AK-47'. Now jump
down from in between the stairs and go N to find 'Smoke Grenade' behind the
crates. Now go to the NE part of Rassvet and grab 'Bug Juice' from behind the
crates.
Go up the ladder next to the Bug Juice and once on the roof, jump down the W
side and climb some crates to find 'Cardboard Box A'. Now go to the room
previous to where Sokolov was and get 'Mine Detector'. Now enter the room where
Sokolov was and open the left locker to find 'Thermal Goggles'.
Return outside to trigger a rather long but kick ass scene. Make sure to use
the R1 Button when prompted to LOOK at something really nice. Also, I love how
Snake gets all horny when he puts his hands on the weapon. Snake also receives
'M1911A1', 'Mk22' and 'Scientist Camo'.
After the scene, save your game, watch another scene and you'll have to fight
the Ocelot Unit!

~-~ BOSS #1: Ocelot Unit ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
As you regain control, exit through the trapdoor Eva used and go to the S exit
(do not exit yet) and a member of the Ocelot Unit should be there. Toss a
Grenade to his feet and watch him fly. After this happens, 3 or 4 more Ocelot
Units will come. With a single Grenade, make them all fly. There should be 3
more. Now exit through the N exit (to appear behind the building). If there's
an Ocelot standing on the corner of the roof, try tossing a Grenade in between
his feet. If he's not there, go E while crawling and shoot the Ocelot
patrolling there.
There should be only 1 left, and he's patrolling the W side of Rassvet. Sneak
up on him to end this boss battle!

After you've taken care of all of them, approach the NE side of Rassvet to
trigger a scene with Ocelot. I love this scene!!! Now, before going through the
gate, go W from it to get 'Zombie Camo'. Now go through the gate Eva just
opened.

There are no enemies in this area, so you can be relaxed. Go all the way W,
then go into the water to find three boxes with 'Smoke Grenade', 'WP Grenade'
and 'AK-47 Ammo x120'. Now hug the left wall until you come across some logs.
Swim underneath them and grab 'Grenade' and 'Mk22 Ammo x24'. Go N from here,
and you'll receive a CALL from Eva. Afterwards, go E and up the tree. Hang from
the tree branch and cross the rope.
When you get to a rope under you, press X to drop and quickly press /\ to hang
to the other one. Keep crossing until you're above a ledge. Drop down and get
'Crocodile Cap'. Now drop of this ledge from the S and get 'M1911A1 Ammo x21'
and 'Stun Grenade'. From here, go all the way to the E to find 2 boxes under
the shallow water. Open them to get 'GA-KO Camo' and 'Chaff Grenade'. From
here, go N to reach the next area.

From where you start, go N (beware of all the traps and claymores in this
area. Search for them with the Thermal Goggles) and you'll find an electrified
fence. Check the left side to find the power supplier for the fence. Shoot it
and check the right side to find a little place to crawl under. Once on the
other side, you'll be on a minefield. Look out for the Claymores with the
Thermal Goggles and crawl over them to grab them.
Anyway, there's an electric fence that divides this area in 2. Also, whenever
possible, shoot the dog on the other side of the fence and a guard may come.
Shoot him as well and quickly shoot the power supply of the fence that's over
on the left side of it. Climb up the tree next to the power supply and another
dog is on guard. Shoot it and proceed to the E to reach some quick sands.
Hug the E wall until you come to some 'stone steps'. Climb them and follow the
narrow path to get 'Splitter Camo'. Now face W to find two soldiers guarding
the entrance to the N most area of Bolshaya. If you're quick enough, shoot one
in the head (with the Mk22) and quickly shoot the next one. There's another
guard N of them. If he notices you and/or them, try shooting him.
Hide the bodies, go past the electric fence and go W to find a holed tree
stump. Grab 'Choco Chip Camo' from inside and proceed E to the next area.

Hide in the grass in front of you and shoot the guard that passes by. Hide the
body and go E from the helicopter. Hide in the grass and another guard will
come your way from the front of the helicopter. Dispose of him and proceed N.
When you get to the machine gun, crawl and go N and stay in the grass that's in
front of the little building. A guard must be there. Kill him, hide the body
(like always) and enter the building to get 'M1911A1 Ammo x21', 'WP Grenade',
'AK-47 Ammo x120', 'Grenade', 'TNT', 'Smoke Grenade' and 'Stun Grenade'.
Now exit the building and return to the entrance. From here, go W but looking
N until you see a soldier guarding a door. Lure him towards you (by approaching
enough for him to notice someone), hide in the grass nearby and take him out.
From here, go W past the electrified fence and all the way to the N side is
another guard. Hide in the grass nearby him and take him out.
A little bit SE of this last guard's position is another stationary machine
gun and N of it is a ditch. Go down it and go N (while crawling of course) to
find 'Snow Camo'. Get out of the ditch and go to where the last guard was. From
here, go E with caution because there's another soldier guarding the rear exit.
Take him out, hide the body and enter a little wooden room S of your current
position.
In here, grab 'Ration', 'Calorie Mate' and 'Mousetrap'. Plant a TNT in here
and enter the S building. Check under the beds to find 'Mousetrap', 'Mk22 Ammo
x24' and 'M1911A1 Suppressor'. Enter the next room and exit through the S door.
Go up the ladder on the right and check the corners to get 'Water Camo'. Now
set a TNT on the helicopter and blow both the supply room and the helicopter.
Before exiting the area, check the building E of the N exit to get 'Bandage',
'Digestive Medicine', 'Life Medicine' and 'Antidote'. Afterwards, go SE a
little bit to find another ditch. Follow it if you want to find 'Book' and
'Mk22 Ammo x24'. Now go N to reach another area.

~-~ BOSS #2: Ocelot ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
This battle takes place in a really cool place, being Ocelot on the N area,
while Snake is on the S area, divided by a large crevice. The best weapon to
use here is your Mk22 for that Animal Camo. There are several boulders and
trees in your area so you can hide. Keep good track of Ocelot's bullets,
because when he's going to reload (you'll hear several clicking of the guns and
the bullet's under Snake's Stamina will start recharging), he'll be standing on
an open area, so it's quite easy to get 1 or 2 shots.
Whenever you run out of ammo, you can find some on both the W and E side of
the crevice. Another good thing, whenever Ocelot is hiding behind something,
look upwards to find some Hornet's Nests. Shoot one that is near him so you can
get some good shots. The guards at the back will try to shoot you whenever they
see their commander in problems. Afterwards, Ocelot will yell at them all
pissed off. Use this time to shoot him once or twice.
Once you've depleted half of his life or stamina, he'll get tougher by
ricocheting his bullet, so there'll be no safe place to hide. So keep moving
only stopping to shoot him.

Ok, this place is a little bit complicated to explain, as we don't see ****.
But all the directions will be based on the map, ok?! If you use your Thermal
Goggles right from the start, you'll see a box with 'Animal Camo' (only if you
depleted all of Ocelot's stamina). From this first area, go E to reach another
area, but with 3 paths to go to. GO NW first and you'll come to a little area
that has 2 little waterfalls (use the Thermal Goggles to find it). Go in
between them to find 'Torch' and 'WP Grenade'.
Now that we finally have the torch, we can see. Go NW and when you get to the
middle of the path (you'll be on a ledge), drop down to find 'Battery'. Now go
S, pass the little pond and you'll be back at the beginning. From here, go E
and NE to find 'M1911A1 Ammo x21' and 'Grenade' at the end of the path. Return
to where you fell to grab the battery and go N until you reach a room filled
with Vampire Bats. They taste horrible.
Anyway, get 'C Med' and 'Serum' from the S part of the room and crawl through
the E wall and in the next room, before jumping in the hole, check the S part
of it to find 'Night Vision Goggles' (thank goodness). Also grab 'AK-47 Ammo
x120' from the left side. Jump into the hole and grab 'Ration' at the bottom.
Swim through the underwater tunnel and you'll arrive once again at the pond.
Return to the room with 3 paths (the one before the room with the Torch).
Follow the N path this time and follow the path without falling and grab 'Bug
Juice' at the next area, as well as 'Mk22 Ammo x24' and 'AK-47 Ammo x120'. Now
simply go N to reach the next area.

You start off in a fork, which you should take right and at the end of it, get
'M37' and 'Mk22 Ammo x24'. Now go in the hole in the N wall until you find
'Snow Camo'. Now return to the fork and go left this time and at the large
area, bet 'AK-47 Ammo x120', 'Smoke Grenade' and 'M1911A1 Ammo x21' from the
boxes. Now proceed N to trigger a scene and a Boss Fight!

~-~ BOSS #3: The Pain ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
The Pain controls hornets to do his dirty little work. Also, watch out for
what he's saying. When he says "Tommy Gun!", he'll use his pistol to shoot at
you. When he says 'Grenade!', he'll have his hornets carry the grenade to you.
Always stay in the water and only come out to shoot him. He also has what looks
like crystal spheres with yellow gas in it that orders the hornets to attack
you. Jump to the water as soon as this happens.
After dealing 1/2 of his vitality/stamina, a scene will trigger, revealing his
face. Now he can shoot hornets out of his mouth. Great, just great. The bees
shot from his mouth leave a red trail behind them, so just jump in the water
and wait for them to go. Try to shoot him in the face to deal massive damage on
him. There really isn't any more to write about him.

If you depleted all his stamina, he'll leave 'Hornet Stripe' right where he
was standing. You must be thinking: "How do I get up there?!" right? Go near
the exit and jump on the right ledge and follow the tight space until the ledge
curves to the center of the room. Throw yourself towards the central area and
grab that Camo.
Anyway, just go N to exit this area.

In this area, enter First Person View and spot both guards. When the left most
(he's walking on the dock) is all the way to the S end, shoot him in the head
and jump on the dock. Equip Splitter Face Camo and Squares Body Camo. Crawl to
approach the other guard and take him out as well. Now grab 'WP Grenade',
'M1911A1 Ammo x21', 'Mk22 Ammo x24' and 'Stun Grenade' from on top of the
boats.
Now enter the N building to get 'TNT', 'Grenade', 'AK-47 Ammo x120', 'M37 Ammo
x16', 'Mk22 Ammo x24' and 'SVD' (also known as Dragunov Sniper Rifle). Now
return to the previous area and go N from the fork to reach the next area.

After the scene (damn you, Volgin!), spot the two guards that are on the
docks. After taking care of them, search the area for items and at the N side
of the area, go up the little stairs and go N to reach the next area.
**NOTE: You can kill The End at this point using the SVD. If you do that,
you'll miss the opportunity of having "maybe" the best Boss Battle of the game,
but that's not all, but an opportunity of getting a Camo and Weapon from him.
If you kill him, instead of battling him, you'll have to fight a Ocelot Unit.

Run up the stairs and when you enter the main area of the warehouse, go S to
get 'Serum' and 'Antidote'. Now locate the soldier patrolling the lower level.
Dispose of him (I recommend using the M1911A1), hide the body behind the crates
and get 'Bandage' and 'Desert Camo' from the SW corner.
There's another guard patrolling this lower level, but he's guarding the N
side. You can easily sneak up on him and dispose of him. Once done with this
one, check the long stairs going up and spot another guard. You can make him
notice you by running around making noise. If he comes down, take care of him,
if not, run up the stairs with extreme caution and take care of him (you can
also snipe him down, but make sure to have had disposed of all the enemies
first).
As for the items, run up the first two sets of stairs, go S to get 'Styptic'
and 'Disinfectant'. Now jump over the lower part of the fence and drop down to
the crates below to find 'Mk22 Suppressor'. Run up those two sets of stairs and
enter the N door to get 'Mousetrap', 'Instant Noodles' and 'Calorie Mate'. Now
go to the top and exit this warehouse.

As you start this area, beware of moving too much because there are soldiers
on the other side of the fence, as well as a guardian dog. Go E from the
entrance to get 'Mk22 Suppressor'. Now kill or tranquilize the guard near your
position, then kill the dog as fast as possible. Now go to the W side, hiding
between the bushy areas and kill the other guard.
Crawl below the W most side of the fence and there are 2 ways to enter. From
the W side (through a hole hidden in the bushy area) and from the E side
(through the door.) I'll enter from the W side, but before that, grab 'M1911A1
Suppressor' from just a little bit N of the hole.

As you enter, there should be a guard on your left side about to start
patrolling. Knock him off with Mk22 and way behind him is another one that
looks like he's hidden. If you have the accuracy (I have), take him out too,
hide the bodies, and locate the other one all the way on the other side of the
area.
Use the trucks and the bushy areas to approach him and take him out. Hide the
body, as usual, and go to the NE corner of the area to find a little building.
Enter it to find 'XM16E1', 'AK-47 Ammo x120', 'M37 Ammo x16', 'TNT' and 'SVD
Ammo x40'.
Exit the building and check under the trucks to find 'M1911A1 Ammo x21', 'Mk22
Ammo x24'. Now follow the W path next to the main building and get 'Claymore'
and 'Smoke Grenade' from behind the building. Now put on the Scientist Camo and
no Face Paint and enter the main building.

Before starting, take note that you can fix your glasses with /\, so guards
can think of you as a scientist. Now spot the guard patrolling the hall. You
can take off your Scientist Camo and CQC this guard. Hide the body and at the
fork, go E, take care of the other guard if you want and enter the little room
when you get to it.
In here, grab 'Bandage', 'Ointment', 'Suture Kit' and 'Serum' from the floor,
exit the room and open the lockers in front of the door to find 'M1911A1 Ammo
x21'. Proceed further in to find a red door on your left side. Exit the
building and check the tree for Baikal Scaly Tooth and Spatsa. There's also an
air vent next to the tree. Enter it and grab 'Oyama Camo' at the end. Return to
the little area, enter the building and go up to the second floor.
There are two guards up here. Wait until one is near the stairs to take him
out. The other one is either in the bathroom (last door N of the hallway) or in
the locker room. Take care of him too and enter the bathroom. In here, hit the
last door until it comes down, getting 'Fly Camo' afterwards. Now enter the
door below and get 'Mk22 Suppressor'.
Move to the fork before these rooms and follow it W to find 2 doors. Enter the
first one to find 'Calorie Mate', 'Instant Noodles' and 'Instant Noodles'. Now
enter the next one to find 'Book'. Drop to the level below, enter the building
and go down the stairs at the end.

There are two guards down here. If you want to take them out, start by
knocking the one that's guarding the hall. Hide him in a cell, then take care
of the other one. If you interrogate the one entering and exiting the room,
he'll give you a radio frequency so you can listen to a song. The frequency is
144.86.
Now enter this room to get 'Mk22 Ammo x24', 'Antidote', 'SVD Ammo x40' and
'M37 Ammo x16'. Now go down the hallway and enter the second cell. Check under
the bed and get 'Life Medicine'. Now enter the last cell and get 'Mousetrap';
shoot the Kerotan as well. Return to 1F and go to the fork near the entrance,
go N, take care of the guard in the big room and go down the stairs.

Follow the path until you get to the door to a little room. Kill the guard if
you want and enter this little room to find 'Cigarette Gas-Spray'. Enter now
the room in front and you'll find a scientist. Take him out with the cigarettes
you just got (kill him if you want) and hide the body in a locker. The left
locker has 'Knock-out handkerchief'. Hide the soldier's body if you want.
Now enter the next room you'll find several scientist. Just run past them,
enter the next room and approach the next door to trigger a scene with Granin.
Before I forget, in the room with the scientists, there's an 'XM16E1
Suppressor' in the NE booth and a 'Battery' in the SE booth. Now exit Graniny
Gorki Lab Completely and go to Graniny Gorki South.

I'll try to make this strategy as quick as possible. Start off by curing the
Arrow wound. Afterwards, equip your Thermal Goggles and without moving from
your initial position, check the thin tree NW of you. There are 2 mushrooms at
the base of it. Shoot them (they're poisonous) and leave them there. Now go SE
and you'll find a tree with vines that you can use to climb up the tree. Near
the base of this tree, there are 2 Poison Dart Frogs. Shoot them and let them
there. Now climb the tree and you'll see him jumping from tree to tree. Start
shooting him with your Mk22 to deplete his stamina (to start, his stamina
decreases really fast). He'll get hungry, just like Snake. He'll go eat a
mushroom or a frog you killed earlier. This will stun him and make him puke.
Use this time to fill his body with Mk22 darts and finish him.

Watch the little scene after the fight and collect 'Spider Camo' if you
Stamina killed him. Also look around the area for the items above mentioned.
Afterwards, go S and enter Ponizovje Warehouse.

There are 3 guards in this area. First of all, crawl your way to the S most
tip of the level your on right now. Take out your weapon with Suppressor
(XM16E1 is quite good) and take out the guard on the lower level. Now crawl
down the stairs and without moving, take out the other guard. Go to where this
guard was and take out the other one on the lower level. Now enter the room
above to get 'Calorie Mate', 'Instant Noodles' and 'Mousetrap'.
Now go S of this room and grab 'Styptic' and 'Disinfectant'. Now jump over the
fence and grab 'Mk22 Suppressor'. Also, go to the SW part of the area to find
'Bandage'. Now go to the SE corner to find 'Serum' and 'Antidote'. Now enter
the top red door and follow the hall to exit the warehouse.

There's a fork as we start this large area. Follow the left path and when you
get to a hollow tree stump, go through it and you'll see a guard coming towards
you. Shoot him in the head and exit the tree stump from the S side and go E
(crawling of course) until you see another guard patrolling the upper part of
the area (the open area). Hide the bodies and proceed to the next part of the
area.
Hide in the first bushy area you find and look N to find 2 guards. Shoot them
both in the head and go to the NW corner to find 'XM16E1 Ammo x80'. There's a
fork before you exit the area. North and East. Go E to find us some weapons.

As you start, go E and there'll be a fork. There are 2 guards coming your way.
So go E and hide in the bushy area. Wait until the guards come in sight and
kill the second one. Then kill the first one. Now return to the fork and go N
all the way until you are on top of a shack. Enter it to find 'Russian Ration',
'Calorie Mate' and 'Calorie Mate'. Now go E and behind the cabin-like building,
climb up the tree then jump down to the roof and from here, start sniping with
your XM16E1 all the guards.
Once you're done with all of them, jump down the right side and enter the
door. Check the left side of this room to get 'M63'. Now go S to find 'Mk22
Ammo x24', 'XM16E1 Ammo x80', 'SVD Ammo x40' and 'M37 Ammo x16'. Now enter the
left door and check under the beds to find 'XM16E1 Suppressor' and 'TNT'. Now
go to the S end of the room to find 'Mk22 Suppressor' and 'M1911A1 Suppressor'.
Now exit this area, and at the fork, go N to reach Sokrovenno South.

~-~ BOSS #5: The End ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
This battle is the best one of all the game, and one of my favorite of all
time and games. Anyway, let's start with this battle. There are 3 areas where
this battle takes place. South, West and North. There are several Sniping
Points in each area. What you need to do is to have The End spot you first. Run
through all 3 areas until the end spots you. Open up your map and you'll see a
red circle. The white circles are Sniping Points and the Red one is where The
End is.
You can either take out your SVD and snipe him down or you can go to him and
shoot him with your Mk22. the way to obtain his Camo is different. You need to
catch him off guard (point the gun behind him without noticing you). That's
basically all there is to the fight. You need to know where he is and then
battle out with him.
When you're near him and shoot him 3 times, he'll toss a Stun Grenade and run
off. Follow him using your Thermal Goggles so you can see his footprints. When
you've dealt several damage/stamina damage, he'll heal himself by using the
forest's power. This is the reason why you need to stay as close as possible to
him.
After about 2 times you catch him by surprise, he'll give you his Moss Camo.
now simply stay close to him and take him out to receive Mosin Nagant, a sniper
rifle with tranquilizer darts, much like the Mk22. This battle is not hard at
all, since you won't receive any damage at all, but your stamina is at risk.

As you start, go N to find 'Smoke Grenade' and 'Serum'. Now follow the path
and when you get to a large area, snipe down the guards (there are 3 at the
base level and 1 on the right side of the area on a higher ledge). Afterwards,
examine the E side to find a hole in the wall that takes you to the upper ledge
where the guard was. Follow it and grab 'Grenade' and 'Chaff Grenade'.
Return to the base level and go W to find a large boulder with crawling space
in middle. Crawl through here to find 'SVD Ammo x40', 'Mk22 Ammo x24' and
'Serum'. Now go all the way N to reach the next area.

As you start, toggle the First-Person Viewer and you'll notice a guard walking
down the mountain path. Take him out however you like the most. Also notice the
hovercraft (it'll only appear if you destroyed the helicopter back at the base
before the battle with Ocelot). Don't destroy it, as many more hovercraft will
come and pursue you. Now proceed N to find 'SVD Ammo x40', 'M37 Ammo x16',
'Antidote', 'M1911A1 Ammo x21' and 'AK-47 Ammo x120'. Now start following the
mountain path and enter the crevice to find 'Stun Grenade'.
Go up a little more to find a larger crevice, with 'SVD Ammo x40', 'XM16E1
Ammo x80', 'Styptic' and 'WP Grenade'. Keep going up and when you get to a big
boulder, look NW on an upper level to find a guard. Take him out and continue
the path and enter the small crevice to find 'XM16E1 Ammo x80'. Go up the small
path with extreme caution and go E at the fork for 'Bandage' in the small
crevice.
Return to the little fork, go N then E at the top. Follow the dirt ramp all
the way to the top and grab 'Mosin Nagant Ammo x20'. There are 2 guards up
ahead. One of them is behind the upper building but when the other two are at
the top and they're not facing each other, shoot both of them as quickly as
possible. Now enter the lower right shack to find 'RPG-7' and 'TNT'. Now enter
the other two buildings to find Medical Supplies and Food.
Now go to the next area to the N.

As you start this area, you'll notice a helicopter patrolling the area. Use it
to eliminate all the sound you make, but only if you can hear the sound it
makes. But you can also use your XM16E1 with Suppressor if you have good
accuracy. From the entrance, climb up the two crates right next to you and
shoot the guard in front of you who is next to the turret. Now shoot the one
directly behind him (he must've noticed that you killed the partner) and locate
the one guarding below.
Shoot him too and if you look towards your NE, you'll see another turret and a
barrel near the top of the area. There's another guard patrolling there. I
recommend using your SVD/Mosin Nagant to take him down. Now go E from the
entrance, locate the turret and enter the shack next to it. Get 'Grenade',
'Smoke Grenade' and ' M37 Ammo x16' from in here. There's also a hole in the
wall.
Go through it and go N to find a locked red door. Remember this door. Go N and
enter the shack at the end. There may be a guard. Take him out. In here, grab
'Claymore', 'M63 Ammo x400', 'SVD Ammo x40', 'RPG-7 Ammo x15' and 'TNT'. Now
exit the shack and go NW to find another one. Enter it to find 'Bandage',
'Suture Kit' and 'Ointment'. Now move freely to the red door located at the top
NE side of the area.

There's a little something that's different this time. There are flamethrower
guards now. Go S from your position and when you get to a barrel, wait for the
flamethrower guard to go up the ledges and take him out (if you shoot the
barrel of fuel on his back, it'll explode, alerting all the other guards). Now
go up the ledges yourself and start sniping all the guards (there are 4 more, I
think).
Now, remember the red door I told you to remember? Go there to exit this area
and get a little closer to Groznyj Grad.

Follow the path, go down the stairs and grab 'Grenade'. When you get to the
bottom of the stairs, there's a fork. Go S to get 'M1911A1 Ammo x21', 'M37 Ammo
x16' and 'XM16E1 Ammo x80'. Now go forward to get 'Bandage' and 'Ointment'. Now
follow the path W and go down the ladder at the end to trigger a scene with the
last of the Cobras... The Fury!

This fight is quite easy. His flamethrower doesn't hurt that much, so that's a
relief. There are 6 corridors and The Fury will be running down one of these. I
recommend staying on the S tip of the arena so you can see in which corridor
The Fury is. If you see he's coming your way, wait for him aside and when he
comes out of a corridor, shoot him with your Mk22 3 times. This will knock him
down. When this happens, run away as fast as possible because he'll shoot his
flamethrower to wherever the gun was shot from.
When he yells that his suit has been ripped open, he'll start hovering the
area, because the flames will hurt him too. Same strategy as before. Always
shoot him 3 times and then run away.

After the battle, pick up 'Fire Camo' from right next to you. Now simply
follow the path and go up the stairs at the end to finally reach Groznyj Grad.

Make sure you're wearing your Splitter Camo at all times. From where you
start, go under the ladder to your W and get 'XM16E1 Ammo x80', 'Smoke
Grenade', 'M1911A1 Ammo x21' and 'Grenade'. You can also check under the crates
to find more items (I'm too lazy to write them down). Anyway, stick to the N
wall and go W. When the wall ends, there should be a guard patrolling there.
Stick to the wall and don't let him see you.
As he turns around, kill him and dispose of the corpse. Now make your way to
the S and you'll see a truck there. In the main area, there are 2 guards: 1
patrolling the main area and the other one should be patrolling in between the
buildings. Once you've taken care of these 2, check the truck in the NW side of
the area to find 'M1911A1 Suppressor'.
After all the above, go N and enter the N door.

hallway, there's a guard in the N room. He might see you as you walk S, so
enter a room, wait for him to say that nothing's here, then take him out. The
other one should be patrolling the E hallway. Take him out as soon as possible.
Anyway, in the N room (where the guard was), there's 'Camera'. In the SW room,
grab 'Styptic', 'Bandage', 'Suture Kit', 'Ointment' and 'Disinfectant'.

We start in a little room filled with boxes. Jump on top of the boxes and get
'Ointment', 'Suture Kit', 'Antidote' and 'Bandage'. Quickly equip your
Scientist Camo and No Face Paint and exit the room. On the S side, there's a
soldier with silver-blonde hair that walks like Snake (this guy is physically
identical to Raiden of MGS2).
He'll enter the W room (the library). Wait for him outside as there's a
scientist inside and he'll recognize you. When he leaves, he'll move around the
place, then go up the stairs right next to the library. Follow him up here and
you'll notice that the room is divided in 3 sections. When he gets to the S
most one, use your Cigarette Gas-spray to knock him out and trigger a scene
where you steal his clothes.
Now open the second locker from bottom to top on the left most side to find
'XM16E1 Suppressor'. Return downstairs and remember the room you appeared in?

The screen is completely black and you'll hear Volgin talking to Snake. Make
sure to keep pressed either R2 or L2 during all this talk so that Snake doesn't
lose health at all. After the really kickass scene (!) (press R1 when it says
so to find a radio frequency, 144.75), grab 'Fork' and use it to Cure yourself
from both injuries.
There are several ways to exit the cell, but I'll just tell you one. Use the
radio frequency 144.75 to have the cell door open, then knife the guard to
death. Since you don't have any equipment, you'll have to rush your ass through
these areas to get to your destination. If a guard sees you, ignore them and
continue forwards as fast as possible.
Now exit the building and once outside, go N to Groznyj Grad Northeast, then
go W into the door to reach Groznyj Grad Northwest. Remember this area? Go to
where you used the truck to get into the main building and enter the open door
on the right side of it, next to the wall. In between them, there's a trap
door. Use it to go down into the sewers.

Listen to the talk between Snake and Eva, then go S to get 'SAA Ammo x18'.
Finally some ammo. Now go W to find 'Life Medicine'. Descend the stairs and at
the bottom, go NW and grab 'Ration'. Go N now and when you get to a gate, crawl
through the left hole and kill the guard dog on the other side with your SAA.
Go N and crawl through the E hole.
You'll be in the main corridor again. As you jump down, a guard dog will
appear out of nowhere. Take him out to and in the middle, there will be a lot
if water. Swim down to find 'Ration', 'Instant Noodles', 'SAA Ammo x18' and
'Styptic'. Run N to the gate and crawl through the right hole. 2 guard dogs
will appear behind you, so kill them as fast as possible.
Return to the main part of the sewers and go N towards the light to trigger
another kickass scene, where you're finally introduced to The Sorrow, the last
of the Cobras.

~-~ BOSS #7: The Sorrow ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
This fight is a bit awkward, and to start off, The Sorrow's Health Bar is
empty, because if you didn't know, The Sorrow is dead. Anyway, you'll be in a
river and you'll have The Sorrow floating in front of you. What you need to do
is to walk forward while avoiding any contact with the walking corpses. Yes...
all these are the corpses of the soldiers you've killed throughout the game.
The most of a killer that you are, the longest the battle is.
The Sorrow also has an "attack" in which he shoots a blue beam at you. Avoid
this and keep going forward. You'll also see the corpses of the Cobras. When
you've see the corpse of The Fury, you'll be near the end of the fight. At the
end, touch the corpse of The Sorrow to "die". Don't be afraid. Use your Revival
Pill to revive and end this fight.

After the nice romantic scene between Snake and Eva and when you regain
control, grab 'Mk22 Suppressor' and 'Disinfectant' from the corners. Proceed a
little further to find 'M1911A1 Suppressor'. A little further is 'Styptic',
'Bandage', 'Mk22 Ammo x24', 'M1911A1 Ammo x21' and 'Cardboard Box B'. Now enter
the red door before these 2 last items and get 'Mk22 Ammo x24'. Now go up the
ladder to return to Groznyj Grad.

As soon as you regain control, equip your Spirit Camo and Splitter Face paint.
There are several soldiers in middle of the tanks, so go S, E at the bottom
then go N all the way until you reach the truck you used to get in the lab. Hop
on it, equip Cardboard Box A and enter the lab.

Once again, equip your Scientist Camo, as well as no Face Paint. Go to the
locker room where you left Raikov's body and check the locker in which Snake
stuff the body in (the one with the red stripe across it). You'll find
'Sneaking Camo'. Now check the second from top to bottom on the right most side
of the lockers to find 'Maintenance Camo'. Now go through the W door.

Watch how Snake approaches automatically the door and open it, as well as a
little talk with Zero and Sigint. Equip your Maintenance Camo and No Face Paint
and enter the Shagohod's hangar. With the Maintenance Camo on, it's a lot
easier to do this. First of all, go down the stairs, then go W, up the stairs
and then proceed N until you get to the first liquid fuel container. Plant the
C3, go down the stairs to the N and plant your second C3 on the NW most
container.
Now go E and plant the third C3, then go up S a little bit and plant the last
C3. A scene triggers as you plant it and afterwards, you'll finally have a
chance to kick Volgin's ass.

~-~ BOSS #8: Volgin ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
Ok, Volgin is maybe as easy as The Fear. Maybe easier. He has several attacks
but I'll tell you what you need to do. First of all, equip your Sneaking Camo
so you half the damage and equip your Mk22 without Suppressor. When you see
that Volgin is about to shoot a blue beam, unequip the Mk22, go behind him and
shoot him in the head. Shoot him another 2 times in the body if you can.
Keep doing this until a scene with Ocelot triggers. Afterwards, he'll have
some more attacks. When you see he raises both of his arms, duck so you can
evade all the bullets. When he points his right arm towards you, hurry up and
run behind him and shoot him in the head.
Keep doing the previous strategy, but a little something is different this
time. Instead of I blue beam, there are 3 now. Try evading them at all cost. As
you can see, this is all to this battle.

Pick up the 'Cold War Camo' after the fight. After some time, Volgin tries to
get up and a scene triggers right away. When you regain control, you'll be
mounted on Eva's motorcycle. There'll be a big chase of the Shagohod. You'll be
running through all Groznyj Grad. Make sure to equip either a Machine Gun or
your RPG-7. Shoot all the guards possible until you get to the next area.

Your best bet for this area is the RPG-7. There's a little secret to reload
faster the RPG-7. After shooting, quickly tap R2 twice. This will unequip and
equip your weapon, with full load. Anyway, use the RPG-7 to take out the
motorcycle guards. After a scene, the Shagohod will approach a lot. Shoot the
treads to slow it down a bit and if he shoots some missiles, use a Chaff
Grenade to mess with their system. After some time, another scene triggers.

When you regain control, you need to shoot both C3 to take down the bridge.
First of all, locate both of them. Now shoot one down and wait until Eva tells
you to shoot down the other one. After the scene, you'll have to fight The
Shagohod!!!

The Shagohod is way too easy. Remember what you did to it when it was chasing
you? Do the same thing. Shoot the treads with the RPG-7 to paralyze it. Then
Eva circles around the Shagohod. Shoot at the middle of the back part of the
Shagohod to deal quite good damage. Keep doing this until he's finished.

~-~ BOSS #10: Volgin II ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
This time, Volgin is a little bit harder, IMO. He'll be chasing Eva as he
starts. Take out your SVD and shoot him in the back. You'll take around 1/5 of
his health. He has an attack in which both of his Machine guns draw half a
circle of bullets. Dive in front of the Shagohod to try and avoid it. Another
attack, he uses the main machine gun to shoot directly in front of him. Simply
run to a side. When he yells at you "I'll grind you into dust!" or something
like that, quickly duck and let the Shagohod pass right above you. Afterwards,
stand up right way and shoot him in the back of his head if possible. This
should take between 1/2 and 1/3 of his health. Keep doing this until you finish
him.

Watch the scene afterwards and then you'll be in another motorcycle chase. Use
your RPG-7 to take out the enemies and the M63 to take out the hovercraft
guards. At the end, a scene triggers, giving you control in the next area.

Pick up the ammo you need from the N of you and start going E. Collect lots of
food because Eva's stamina will decrease a lot faster than yours. When you get
to a curving path going S, plant a Claymore and right behind it, another one.
Now proceed S a little more to trigger a scene. After it, guards will start
following you.
Follow the E path and stick to the left wall and go S as fast as possible. If
the guards catch up to you, use either your M37, M63 or your RPG-7 to take them
all out. There are maaaaaaaany soldiers in the area (well, that chase you),
around 30. Take them all out and continue S and at the bottom, go E and
approach the ledge to trigger a little scene where you make it to the next
area.

As you start, equip proper Camo and crawl forward with your Thermal Goggles
on. There are 3 guards in this little area. Take them out one by one. Now go to
the NW corner of this little area and point E until 2 more guards appear.
Quickly take them out and at the fork, go N and at the end, before dropping,
crawl in the grass, equip your Thermal Goggles and start locating enemy
soldiers.
There should be 3 on your left and one on your right. Equip your Animal Camo
and take out either your XM16E1 with Suppressor or your M1911A1 with
Suppressor. First take out the lone soldier, then take out the other three. If
you feel the need, use your RPG-7 to take them all out. Now go down the cliff
and make your way to your destination.

I might have said this enough through this guide of mine, but this game in one
of my favorite of all time. This scenario... where the fight takes place, is

strategy. Equip your Snow Camo and Face Paint and it's finally time to tackle
The Boss. You'll need your Mk22 without Suppressor and your Mosin Nagant for
this fight if you're going for a Stamina Kill.
You have exactly 10 minutes to finish this battle before this place is bombed
to hell. Your best friend here are the Thermal Goggles. You need to locate The
Boss, take out your Mosin Nagant and try shooing her in the head. If you feel
you're going to mess up, shoot her somewhere else.
When she says "There you are!", she'll either start shooting at you or start
running towards you. When she's running towards you, unequip any equipped
weapon and start pressing O with all the speed possible. If you're lucky, you
might stop her attack, letting her open for an attack. Afterwards, take out
your Mk22 and shoot her 3 times.
She'll fall to the ground afterwards. Run away from there and repeat the
strategy. After 5 minutes have passed, she'll yell it at you and Cynthia
Harrell's song Snake Eater will start playing (sweet). She'll then yell at you
when 3 minutes are the last minutes, then the last minute and the last 30
seconds.

After the battle, simply watch the scene and something inside the Wig will
happen. All that I'll tell you is "to pick up anyone you want". After this,
watch the really beautiful scene that lasts around 30 minutes.
Now site back, make some popcorn, open up a soda and lay down to watch this
magnificent ending, which almost made me cry (sniff...). Let the controller on
the floor, turn on the Home Theater and turn up the volume ^_^.

~-~ BOSS #1: Ocelot Unit ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
As you regain control, exit through the trapdoor Eva used and go to the S exit
(do not exit yet) and a member of the Ocelot Unit should be there. Toss a
Grenade to his feet and watch him fly. After this happens, 3 or 4 more Ocelot
Units will come. With a single Grenade, make them all fly. There should be 3
more. Now exit through the N exit (to appear behind the building). If there's
an Ocelot standing on the corner of the roof, try tossing a Grenade in between
his feet. If he's not there, go E while crawling and shoot the Ocelot
patrolling there.
There should be only 1 left, and he's patrolling the W side of Rassvet. Sneak
up on him to end this boss battle!

~-~ BOSS #2: Ocelot ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
This battle takes place in a really cool place, being Ocelot on the N area,
while Snake is on the S area, divided by a large crevice. The best weapon to
use here is your Mk22 for that Animal Camo. There are several boulders and
trees in your area so you can hide. Keep good track of Ocelot's bullets,
because when he's going to reload (you'll hear several clicking of the guns and
the bullet's under Snake's Stamina will start recharging), he'll be standing on
an open area, so it's quite easy to get 1 or 2 shots.
Whenever you run out of ammo, you can find some on both the W and E side of
the crevice. Another good thing, whenever Ocelot is hiding behind something,
look upwards to find some Hornet's Nests. Shoot one that is near him so you can
get some good shots. The guards at the back will try to shoot you whenever they
see their commander in problems. Afterwards, Ocelot will yell at them all
pissed off. Use this time to shoot him once or twice.
Once you've depleted half of his life or stamina, he'll get tougher by
ricocheting his bullet, so there'll be no safe place to hide. So keep moving
only stopping to shoot him.

~-~ BOSS #3: The Pain ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
The Pain controls hornets to do his dirty little work. Also, watch out for
what he's saying. When he says "Tommy Gun!", he'll use his pistol to shoot at
you. When he says 'Grenade!', he'll have his hornets carry the grenade to you.
Always stay in the water and only come out to shoot him. He also has what looks
like crystal spheres with yellow gas in it that orders the hornets to attack
you. Jump to the water as soon as this happens.
After dealing 1/2 of his vitality/stamina, a scene will trigger, revealing his
face. Now he can shoot hornets out of his mouth. Great, just great. The bees
shot from his mouth leave a red trail behind them, so just jump in the water
and wait for them to go. Try to shoot him in the face to deal massive damage on
him. There really isn't any more to write about him.

~-~ BOSS #4: The Fear ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
I'll try to make this strategy as quick as possible. Start off by curing the
Arrow wound. Afterwards, equip your Thermal Goggles and without moving from
your initial position, check the thin tree NW of you. There are 2 mushrooms at
the base of it. Shoot them (they're poisonous) and leave them there. Now go SE
and you'll find a tree with vines that you can use to climb up the tree. Near
the base of this tree, there are 2 Poison Dart Frogs. Shoot them and let them
there. Now climb the tree and you'll see him jumping from tree to tree. Start
shooting him with your Mk22 to deplete his stamina (to start, his stamina
decreases really fast). He'll get hungry, just like Snake. He'll go eat a
mushroom or a frog you killed earlier. This will stun him and make him puke.
Use this time to fill his body with Mk22 darts and finish him.

~-~ BOSS #5: The End ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
This battle is the best one of all the game, and one of my favorite of all
time and games. Anyway, let's start with this battle. There are 3 areas where
this battle takes place. South, West and North. There are several Sniping
Points in each area. What you need to do is to have The End spot you first. Run
through all 3 areas until the end spots you. Open up your map and you'll see a
red circle. The white circles are Sniping Points and the Red one is where The
End is.
You can either take out your SVD and snipe him down or you can go to him and
shoot him with your Mk22. the way to obtain his Camo is different. You need to
catch him off guard (point the gun behind him without noticing you). That's
basically all there is to the fight. You need to know where he is and then
battle out with him.
When you're near him and shoot him 3 times, he'll toss a Stun Grenade and run
off. Follow him using your Thermal Goggles so you can see his footprints. When
you've dealt several damage/stamina damage, he'll heal himself by using the
forest's power. This is the reason why you need to stay as close as possible to
him.
After about 2 times you catch him by surprise, he'll give you his Moss Camo.
now simply stay close to him and take him out to receive Mosin Nagant, a sniper
rifle with tranquilizer darts, much like the Mk22. This battle is not hard at
all, since you won't receive any damage at all, but your stamina is at risk.
Every time he shoots at you, take out the dart with your Survival Knife.
ALSO! Before I forget, from where you start, there's an armory to the NW. The
End's parrot is standing on the corner of the building. This is your only
chance to eat it, so do so.

~-~ BOSS #6: The Fury ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
This fight is quite easy. His flamethrower doesn't hurt that much, so that's a
relief. There are 6 corridors and The Fury will be running down one of these. I
recommend staying on the S tip of the arena so you can see in which corridor
The Fury is. If you see he's coming your way, wait for him aside and when he
comes out of a corridor, shoot him with your Mk22 3 times. This will knock him
down. When this happens, run away as fast as possible because he'll shoot his
flamethrower to wherever the gun was shot from.
When he yells that his suit has been ripped open, he'll start hovering the
area, because the flames will hurt him too. Same strategy as before. Always
shoot him 3 times and then run away.

~-~ BOSS #7: The Sorrow ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
This fight is a bit awkward, and to start off, The Sorrow's Health Bar is
empty, because if you didn't know, The Sorrow is dead. Anyway, you'll be in a
river and you'll have The Sorrow floating in front of you. What you need to do
is to walk forward while avoiding any contact with the walking corpses. Yes...
all these are the corpses of the soldiers you've killed throughout the game.
The most of a killer that you are, the longest the battle is.
The Sorrow also has an "attack" in which he shoots a blue beam at you. Avoid
this and keep going forward. You'll also see the corpses of the Cobras. When
you've see the corpse of The Fury, you'll be near the end of the fight. At the
end, touch the corpse of The Sorrow to "die". Don't be afraid. Use your Revival
Pill to revive and end this fight.

~-~ BOSS #8: Volgin ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
Ok, Volgin is maybe as easy as The Fear. Maybe easier. He has several attacks
but I'll tell you what you need to do. First of all, equip your Sneaking Camo
so you half the damage and equip your Mk22 without Suppressor. When you see
that Volgin is about to shoot a blue beam, unequip the Mk22, go behind him and
shoot him in the head. Shoot him another 2 times in the body if you can.
Keep doing this until a scene with Ocelot triggers. Afterwards, he'll have
some more attacks. When you see he raises both of his arms, duck so you can
evade all the bullets. When he points his right arm towards you, hurry up and
run behind him and shoot him in the head.
Keep doing the previous strategy, but a little something is different this
time. Instead of I blue beam, there are 3 now. Try evading them at all cost. As
you can see, this is all to this battle.

~-~ BOSS #9: Shagohod ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
The Shagohod is way too easy. Remember what you did to it when it was chasing
you? Do the same thing. Shoot the treads with the RPG-7 to paralyze it. Then
Eva circles around the Shagohod. Shoot at the middle of the back part of the
Shagohod to deal quite good damage. Keep doing this until he's finished.

~-~ BOSS #10: Volgin II ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
This time, Volgin is a little bit harder, IMO. He'll be chasing Eva as he
starts. Take out your SVD and shoot him in the back. You'll take around 1/5 of
his health. He has an attack in which both of his Machine guns draw half a
circle of bullets. Dive in front of the Shagohod to try and avoid it. Another
attack, he uses the main machine gun to shoot directly in front of him. Simply
run to a side. When he yells at you "I'll grind you into dust!" or something
like that, quickly duck and let the Shagohod pass right above you. Afterwards,
stand up right way and shoot him in the back of his head if possible. This
should take between 1/2 and 1/3 of his health. Keep doing this until you finish
him.

~-~ BOSS #11: The Boss ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
I might have said this enough through this guide of mine, but this game in one
of my favorite of all time. This scenario... where the fight takes place, is
one of the scenarios that I hold in my heart with great love. Reason is
because... I mean, do you really need me to say? You might be a weirdo if you
don't like it. Also, the music that triggers after the first 5 minutes of the
battle really connects the battle with the feeling of both warriors.

buddies, parachuting into the jungle. Upon landing, you'll recieve a
call from Big Boss, your unit's head honcho. He'll explain the mission
objectives in more or less understandable English. Once he's done
babbling, follow the trail to your right.
Here, we will delight to an example of this game's horrid translation
base. The guard by the jeep will fall asleep after a few moments if you
simply don't move (wait for the cue, "I'm getting sleepy!!"). When he's
peacfully in slumberland, either sneak by him or run up and punch his
lights out permenantly, then head south.
The next area is occupied by three mutts, and it's pretty much
impossible to get by without alerting them. They aren't too hard to
dodge, so run by and take the path on the right to continue furter
south.
Pass another screen with a dog, and you'll come to a small clearing with
a truck. From this point on, things are going to get very sticky. The
guards you encounter will are all very trigger-happy and your low rank
(and hence, low amount of energy) doesn't permit you to soak up much
damage before dying. This makes the opening of this game probably one of
the toughest parts to get past. Enough disclaimers, back to the game.
Watch the guard patrolling the clearing. When his back is to you, charge
up behind him and quickly deck him until he's dead. The truck hereabouts
has the binoculars in it. Now you have a choice to make. The binocs
aren't an essential item, though if this is your first time playing this
game the ability to see what lies ahead is a nice thing to have. Still,
you will have to fight the same guard again if you opt to grab the
binocs, and he'll see you immediatly when you exit the truck. Whatever
you decide, after you're done continue south.
After another couple of screens of stealthy kills, you'll come to a
large, concrete structure with a soldier stationed on either side of it.
Take the right side. Beat the tar out of the trooper there and scoot
southward again. If he sees you before he dies, don't worry. Simply
hurry off the screen before the other guard can try to kill you.
Now, since you followed my instructions and came down on the right side,
you should be in spitting distance of one of the two guards on this next
screen. Take him out fast; even if the other jerk does see you, you'll
only have one left to deal with. Once you've mopped up the two guards,
hop into the truck on the left side of the screen. Inside is Card #1. As
a bonus, grabbing the first key-card seems to be the signal for the
enemy troops to stop shooting at you for awhile. When you exit the
truck, the two guards will be back, but they won't fire. Either take
them out or simply dodge your way into the truck on the right, and be
treated with a classic video game line: "Uh-oh! The truck have started
to move!" You've got to absolutly *LOVE* sloppy translations.
Once the truck "have" stopped moving, jump out. You are now in front of
Building 1. There's a lone guard here, but if you wait for a few
moments, he'll wander off saying "Ok, your turn!!", which I think is
supposed to mean they are changing guards. Anyway, the truck on the left
has rations in it, so fill up on them if you want to (and remember that
the guard will be back and will see you each time you leave the truck).
Once you're ready, equip #1 and enter the base.
PART 2: SECRET AGENT MAN
You have sucessfully snuck into one of Outer Heaven's four structures,
the unimaginativly named Building 1. Now, head north from the entrance
and either sneak past or murder the guard that's patrolling the area
next to the door. Enter the room, deal with the guard and grab the gas
mask. Double back and make your way west through the garage. I find that
it's easier to head south, then west, then north, as this route offers
more cover and you really should be avoiding fights at this stage of the
game. Big Boss will call in two areas of the motor pool. He says the
same thing both times, essentially telling you what you need to do to
complete your mission. Ignor him or listen if you'd like another example
of truly hideous dialogue.
Once you hit the west-end wall, take the left path northbound; there's a
pitfall trap on the right side. This, however, will bring you face to
face with a pair of guards that will spot you the second you enter the
area. Take them out fast, or high-tail it northward before the area
becomes infested with troopers. Next, you'll come to an elevator guarded
by a soldier who will ditch like the guy did outside after a moment or
two. Wait him out, and then move when the coast is clear. Ignore the
elevator for now and head east.
There's one guard here and three trucks. You can't open the door at the
far right at this time, so don't even try. There truck on the right has
mines, the middle one holds a nasty surprise of four guards, and the one
on the left has the hand gun. Finally! You're armed! Now you just need
some bullets to go with the gun. If you are spotted whilst collecting
the hand gun and mines, simply duck into one of the trucks to evade the
guards. New weapons acquired, head back to the elevator. This lift will
only go to the third floor, so take it on up.
Once out of the elevator, hug the left wall to avoid being spotted by
the cameras and head south. Ignore bothe of the troopers patrolling the
area and go into the door on the left side of the room. Your reward is
an ammo box. Enter and exit the room, grabbing the ammunition each time,
until you have all the bullets you can carry, then use #1 on the door to
the south and rescue your first prisoner. Use #1 again on the next door
and walk into a wonderful rtoom filled with poison gas.
Slap your gas mask on to stop taking damage (you'll always take a tinsy
bit when keying into and out of rooms like this, I'm afraid) and make
for the door at the bottem of the screen. #1 will get you out of here.
Big Boss will also call and tell you that you need a gas mask. No
kidding.
Upon entering the next room, creep along the left hand wall to avoid the
cameras again, and use #1 to enter the lower door here. You'll get to
free another prisoner, who gives you some information regarding a
missing team member of yours code-named Grey Fox. Leave the cell and
head east. Avoid the roller in this next room, scoop up the plastic
explosives, and continue on in the same direction.
When you reach the eastern wall, there will be a pair of rooms guarded
by a pair of cameras. Slip past the cameras and use #1 on the lower of
the two rooms. Your reward is Card #2. Hooray. The upper room holds
rations, so use #2 to open it and restock if necessary, then back track
to the area where you freed the second P.O.W. Open the upper door with
#2 and swipe the R.C. missiles. Nice indeed. Now go back (again) to the
area where you found #2 and head north from here.
How charming! Your very first experiance with an electrified floor! Wait
till you tell the boys back home! Big Boss will call and warn you that
the only way to shut down the high-voltage flooring is by breaking its
control panel, also that Schneider knows the location of the missiles
you already acquired. Use those missiles to blast the panel, then cross
when it's safe and continue north.
You'll come to another elevator here. As with the last one, ignore it
for the time being and head west. Use #2 to gain access to the upper
room here and grab the cardboard, if you's like. Then key through the
western door and proceed through it.
Use #2 again to enter the small structure in the middle of the room to
get the silencer, and use #1 on the door to your right for the grenade
launcher. Head back to the room with the ammo box (it's west, then south
from here) to refill your pistol and get some grenades in your launcher.
While you are in the neighborhood, use #2 on the door on the right side
of the screen to free another captive, then head back to the other
elevator (not the one directly north of here). You can't do anything on
the roof and nothing of particular consequence on the second level, so
head back down to the ground floor.
Head south from the elevator once you touch down (avoid the space
between the crates; it's a pitfall). Use #2 on the first door to your
left. Free the hostage who will tell you some more about Grey Fox's
whereabouts, then continue on your merry way. In the next area, use #2
again on the door to your right for the sub-machine gun, then access the
door to your left with #1. Inside is another prisoner (your fifth, oh
goody!) and he tells you it would be a good idea to let yourself be
captured. That's thoughtful of him. Exit and continue south.
Hop into the truck you see down there, and lo and behold, you get
captured! Things are going according to plan...aren't they? (By the by,
"You're under arrest!!"? I thought this was a para-military station some
where in the butt-end of Africa, not downtown Omaha. And all are these
exclaimation points really necessary?)
PART 3: JAIL HOUSE ROCK
Well, you're now resting comfortably in Outer Heaven's prison. Big Boss
calls you (they didn't take your radio?) saying the infiltration is a
smashing success. I guess that depends on which side of the bars you're
standing on. Anyway, no rest for the weary. Boss drops clues in his
dialogue that you need to feel around (ie punch) the walls to find a way
out. Hit the left hand wall and you'll open a hidden door. Go into the
next room and be greeted by none other than Grey Fox, who will give you
some unsettling intelligence before splitting. Punch the southern wall
of this cell to reveal your exit, then head east to your first boss
fight.
SHOTGUNNER - Now typically in Metal Gear, beating bosses requires a
simple amount of out-thinking them rather than straight forward brute
force. The shotgunner will run back and forth across the top of the
screen, stopping occasionally to pepper you with blasts from his street-
sweeper. These don't hurt too terribly much, but you're better off
avoiding them all together. The first thing you need to do is re-arm
yourself. There are two doors at the bottom of this room. Head to the
one on the right. All of the gear youve collected is in a bag on the
table in here. Grab it and ditch the transmitter the bad guys have
placed inside the bag. Now head back into the Shotgunners room to face
him. Hide behind the crates and use your remote missiles on this guy.
Though hell try, he wont be able to shoot through the crates to hit
you. You should have four remote missiles left. Hit him with all four
and hell go down. Should you run out of missiles, equip the handgun,
charge up to his level, and fill him full of lead for the coup de
grasse.
Now that thats out of the way, use #2 to key into the room on the left
hand side and retrieve card #3. #3 opens the door to your right, leading
out of this building. So exit stage right.
Head into the door to the south here with #2. Body armor is your reward.
Head back out and go up and around the corner. Use #2 again to get into
the room at the top of the screen for the bomb blast suit, then use #3
on the door to the left of the one at the bottom of the screen for the
uniform. Make sure you get these three items before you leave; you wont
be able to come back to this building until you acquire the compass, and
thats locked up deep inside building 2 (which you cant access without
the uniform). Once youve collected all of these goodies, exit the
building with #3.
Head east from the buildings entrance until you can go east no more.
There will be a truck here with rations inside. Restock your ration
supply, and then head south. Eventually, youll come to Building 1s
northern wall. There are three trucks here. The middle one will take you
to Building 4, and the upper one has plastic explosives. The one at the
bottom has card #4. Grab the card and use it on the door here. Youre
back in Building 1. A quick side note: once you grab card #4, the
enemies will start shooting at you again, so be on guard.
Dispose of the welcoming committee thats waiting for you, and head back
to the elevator. Make a quick pit stop on floor 3 for some more ammo and
more missiles, and then proceed to the roof. Don that bomb blast suit.
Ha! Take that wind! Head as far west as you can go, then go south.
Theres an open room along the way with ammo in it, stop and refill if
you need to. At the bottom of this path, use #2 to get access to a cell,
rescue the hostage inside, then back track to the area where the path
splits east, west, and south. Go south.
The suspension bridges are dangerous, but only if you arent careful. If
the bridge planks move out from under your feet, youll fall all the way
to the ground floor and, of course, die. Go slowly and carefully watch
the way the bridges sway, and youll be fine though.
Once across the bridges, go west. Either sneak up on the guard and kill
him before he has the chance to activate the floor or use your missiles
to blast the control panel from afar. Use #3 to gain access to the room
and swipe the detector. Now head east.
TWIN SHOT---At the far eastern side of the roof, youll encounter Twin
Shot. They will open up with a wide angled barrage of gunfire the moment
you enter the screen, so dont waste time. Scurry over to the upper
right-hand corner of the area, behind the small barrier that separates
you from one of the Twin Shots. You will probably take at least one hit
during your mad dash across the firing field, but it shouldnt hurt you
all that much. Now its time to use your grenade launcher. This weapon
will allow you to fire over the barrier, hitting the first Twin Shot
without putting you in harms way. After the first one drops, repeat the
process in his former cranny. 10 grenades a piece and Twin Shot wont
bother you any more.
The door on the right will open with #3. The cell is empty. The door on
the left opens with #2. Rescue the hostage in there, and he will tell
you that Pettrovich has just been moved to Building 2. So it looks like
youre going to have to do some more hunting before you can find the
good doctor and find out how to put Metal Gear out of commission. Back
track to the elevator and take it to floor 2.
Head south from here. Those weird silver blocks that you see produce
security lasers, but you dont have the goggles right yet, so just run
through them, avoiding the guards that will pop up when you trigger the
alarm. At the southern wall, use #1 to access a cell for a P.O.W. then
head west. Card #3 opens this cell and grants you your tenth hostage
(rank up! Rank up, Richie!) who will inform you, belatedly, that Dr.
Pettrovich is being held on the roof. Pat him on the head and send him
on his way. Then use #3 again to break into the room on your left.
MACHINE GUN KID---And its time for another boss fight. Obviously, dont
stand in the openings for too long; MGK runs along at the top of the
screen and stops at each corridor long enough to fire a stream of
bullets your way. The first, most obvious weapon to use against him is
your remote missiles again. This does work, and fairly quickly, but you
will need those missiles in Building 2, and using them up now will
necessitate a side trip to grab more of them before you leave. Instead,
take him out with the pistol. Stand by an opening that hes approaching,
and quickly dodge out and fire a shot or two down the corridor in his
direction. Then duck back into cover. MGK will move to attack you, but
in doing so, will walk right into your shots. Repeat this several times,
and hell die.
Use #1 to access the door at the top of MGKs room for the stupid iron
glove, then use # 4 on the door the west. Off the guard there before he
can switch on the frying floor, open the door he was guarding with #3,
and claim the infrared goggles as your own. Head north from here. #1
will get you into the cell block on the right side for another hostage,
and the open door on the left has three guards and land mines. Stock up
fully on the mines; youre going to need them very soon. Then keep going
north.
Enter the room at the top of this area, dodge the roller, and escape
with #3. Head west briefly for more ammo and some plastic explosives if
you feel like it. Then go back to the elevator. Take it back to the
bottom level, and exit the building via the door you most recently used
to enter it. You will never have to come back to Building 1 now, so wave
buh-bye and continue with your mission.
PART 4: HEAVY METAL
Head north from Building 1. When you run back into the ration truck,
re-supply yourself, then equip the detector. Ooooh! Mines! Either dodge
or shoot these, and head north.
TANK---Throw on the body armor and charge right up against the brick
wall; the tanks machine guns fire out in arcs on either side of it, but
they cant hit you when youre right next to the wall. Now its a simple
matter of when the tank backs up, run out in front of it and drop three
mines. You might take a little fire from the machine guns, but the body
armor will reduce the damage you receive. The tank will come forward
again, and it will roll over the explosives damaging itself. After 11
hits, the tank will be destroyed, and you are free to move on to
Building 2. There are two things you need to keep in mind while fighting
this brute. Number one, dont touch it; thats instant death. Secondly,
the tank will fire its turret cannon at you if you step directly in
front of it. This is obviously stupid and unnecessary, so dont be an
idiot and stay out of the tanks way.
Keep going north with that detector handy, as youll run into another
minefield. Once past this, youll reach Building 2, and Big Boss will be
on the phone again. Hell say something about a roadblock and trying to
slip past it. Put on that uniform you stole earlier and enter the
building.
If you need a quick ammo boost, head immediately left and access the
door there with #4. An ammo crate is inside. Restock until youre fully
re-armed, then go jump in the sludge. Equip your grenade launcher and
use #4 on door.
BULL-TANK---The bull-tank, like its late counterpart, is lethal to the
touch. So dont touch it. You need something with decent punch to take
this thing down. Thats where your grenade launcher comes in. The moment
you enter the room, start lobbing grenades at the lumbering behemoth.
You should be able to take it down before it reaches you. In the event
that you dont act fast enough, simply access your sub-screen and the
bull-tank will reset to its starting position, with whatever damage you
dealt to it on the first go round.
#4 will get you out of the bull-tanks room. Head east from the
elevator, and then south. Cross the river of sludge to the other side,
being careful to avoid the dark (deep) area, and use #2 on the door to
your left. The antenna is in here, and this is an important item to get
on this level as two new and different contacts will be showing up on
your radio and you wont be able to talk to them without this item.
Theres nothing more you can do on this floor right now. Head back to
the elevator and take it to the roof.
#2 will open the door in your immediate area, and inside is another
hostage. Hell tell you that Pettrovich is being held on floor 2.
Continue across the roof until you reach the second door. Use #4 to open
it and be rewarded with card #5. Keep going until you reach the
elevator, and take it back down to the ground floor.
Dont go between the crates in the first area here, theres another
pitfall. Head west, then north (or continue west for rations if you need
them, the door is opened by #5). Stay on the lower side of the sludge
ditch and go east, then north until you reach a door. Open sesame with
#5 and rescue yet another hostage who tells you that you need a rocket
launcher to beat someone called Arnold for the key card to the outside.
Head back, jump in the muck, and go north. When you reach the area that
is blocked by all that deep water, exit the sludge via the opening on
the left and head south. Follow that path to another door and open it
with #5. This room holds card #6. Now go back to the first elevator, and
take it to floor 2 (its an irritating fact in this building that the
elevator you took up to the roof only goes up, while the elevator you
took down from the roof only goes down).
First, follow the path to the right opening the door at the end of it
with #6. Your prize is the antidote, something which you will need very
soon. Head back and pop open the southern door that you passed with #1.
Yep, those two things are Arnold (Arnolds?), but youre not quite ready
to fight him yet. Use #5 to open the door in the southeast corner, and
then again to open the cell in the next room. A hostage will be there
and hell tell you that you cant cross the desert without a compass.
Head back to the Arnolds room and use #5 on the door on the right side
now.
#5 will get you into the room in the upper-left corner, and your 15th
hostage. Just in time too. He tells you about a resistance member named
Jennifer whos a snob and wont talk to you unless youre classy
(translation, high-ranking). Fortunately, that freed hostage just put
you to four stars, so youll have plenty of class when talking to Jen.
Leave the cell and contact her immediately. Shell tell you that shes
got some rocket launchers ready for you. Use # to access the other room
in the area, and voila! Rocket launcher! Now all you need is something
to fire out of it, and fortunately, I know just where that something is.
Go back to Arnolds room again, and this time key yourself out with #1
at the lower left-hand doorway. Theres an open room over here with
three ammo crates. Fill up and then prepare for battle. (You can also go
north from here, and key yourself into a cell with #6. There, a person
who seems to be Dr. Pettrovich is bound up like a hostage. Dont fall
for it; its a trap and hes not the real doctor. If you move to free
him, hell try to kill you by opening up a pitfall. I usually shoot this
guy out of spite.)
ARNOLD---The Arnolds dont shoot at you; they dont have any guns.
Instead, as Im sure youve learned by ducking into and out of this
room, theyll charge you and slam into you for decent damage. This fight
is more straight forward than most. Now that you have the rocket
launcher, simply blast away at each of the Arnolds until they die.
Equip the body armor for extra protection if you feel like it and heal
when necessary.
After the Arnolds pass, a key card will appear, #7. Grab it, then use #2
on the door in the upper right-hand side of the room. Go east from here,
and then call Jennifer again from this seemingly dead-end room. Shell
tell you shed got a compass ready for you. Use #1 to open the door in
the area and swipe the compass. Go back to Arnolds room (again) and
head back through the southeastern door. This time go east until you
reach the elevator, and take it back to the ground level.
Head back to the sludge area, and go to the area where you got #6.
Instead of going south this time, go north. Use #7 on the door here, and
youre out of Building 2.
PART 5: TAKIN CARE OF BUSINESS
Youre in the desert now, so equip the compass and the sub-machine gun.
The SMG is ideal for dealing with the scorpions, since it sprays out a
fan of bullets to cover the fairly large area that the little arachnids
scuttle around in. Head north, and north, and north some more, until you
reach Building 4. Big Boss will call you up and tell you to get into the
truck on the right (I think he means the one in the middle on the
right). Dont listen to him; the truck in question will whisk you away
back to the beginning area of the game and youll need to make your way
all the way back to Building 4. The truck in the upper right takes you
to the front of Building 1, the lower truck has ammo, and the one on the
upper left has a single soldier in it. Use #7 to enter the building.
Interesting. It seems like youre expected. Theres no sneaking past the
guards in this room. They know youre there and will attack the moment
you enter. Wipe them out. Big Boss calls you again and tells you to go
into the room on the left. Again, dont listen to him. Theres a pitfall
in that room and nothing else. Now why is it that Big Boss suddenly
seems to want to halt your progress, in one way or another? But thats a
question for later. Head north. Get past the two pitfalls by using the
transceiver method to freeze them, then hop in the elevator and take it
down&and down&and down some more.
The cameras in the next room are actually the fun, laser-shooting
variety, which means youre pretty close to the super computer. Thats
irrelevant right now, though. Use #7 to key into the room at the bottom,
grab the oxygen tank and then make your way back to Building 2.
Now, equip the oxygen and go jump in the deep water and head north.
Eventually, youll exit the water and come to an area with another
electrified floor. Use your missiles to deactivate it. The room on the
left is opened with #1 and holds ammo. Youll also receive an alarmed
message from Schneider, telling you that hes found out who the leader
of Outer Heaven is. But the transmission cuts off before you can find
out. The other door leads to your next boss fight.
COWARD DUCK---Maybe this is more homage to 80s icons (hello, Howard the
Duck) and maybe not. At any rate, Ducks got himself surrounded by
hostages and he throws boomerang looking thingies at you. Jennifer will
call and inform you that one of the hostages in the room is her brother
(the middle one) and if you shoot him she wont help you any more. On
top of all that, theres a pitfall in the middle of the room. The best
way to deal with Ducky is your handy-dandy remote missiles. If ever
there was a situation tailor-made for these babies, its this one.
Alternatively, you can trip the pitfall and freeze it with the
transceiver trick, then walk up besides the Coward and fill him full of
lead with the pistol. Finally, you can head to either the left or the
right side of the room and use the sub-machine gun. This really isnt a
good idea though. With all those bullets spraying around, youre bound
to hit a hostage or two.
Duck had the final key card. Grab #8 and free the hostages. Jens
brother tells you to take the left elevator when you escape the complex,
so not killing him paid off. Now head back out to the desert. Go north
again with the compass and the SMG at the ready. After you clear the
desert, keep the compass at the ready and head west three times, north
once, and west once more. This will take you to the northern entrance of
Building 3. #6 gets you in here. (You can also get back to the southern
entrance of Building 3 now that you have the compass. Get to the
clearing with the rations truck and the small mine field below where you
fought the tank, equip the compass, and go west three times, north once,
and west again. Youll recognize this area as the building you broke out
of when you were captured. I dont recommend going this way, however.
Youre coming up on the pitfall zone, and if you approach it from this
direction, youll have to do it blind, which is nearly impossible.)
Schneider calls at this point, miraculously back from the dead somehow
and not at all interested in telling you who the evil leader is. (Im
guessing the game was set up for you to handle this area first, and then
go back to deal with Coward Duck. So the programming gets a tad
confused. Anyhow, doing things my way will save you an extra side trip.)
Use #5 to break into the cell in the upper left and free the hostage
there, then use #3 to open the other door in the upper area of the
screen.
Youre back in gas land, so put your mask back on and follow the path.
The first room you come to is unlocked and has a roller and three
bundles of plastic explosives. Grab them if you need to and then
continue onward. Youll come to a dead end with an open room. Inside is
the all-important flash light. Snag it, leave and then go to the wall on
the left side of the screen. Punch it and youll hear the tell-tale
sound of a hidden door nearby. Feel around for it, and pass through when
you locate the door.
FIRETROOPER---I am a Firetrooper! Want to see me roast you alive?
*sigh* One can only hope that question was rhetorical. The trooper
stands at the northern end of the room, guarding a doorway. At regular
intervals, he shoots out a stream of fire that he then swings back and
forth in an arc. This fire will hurt you, but more importantly, it will
block any shots that you send in his direction. There are two ways
around this. One, use the sub-machine gun. While most of the bullets
will fly wide or be destroyed by the flames, one or two per burst will
be at the correct angle to bypass the Firetroopers defenses and hit
him. This does take awhile. Alternatively, wait for the Firetrooper to
stop blasting the area with flames, then run up into his little alcove
next to him. He wont be able to hit you here. Now fill his head full of
lead with your pistol.
However you choose to dispose of him, once the Firetrooper is gone, use
#6 to key into the cell behind where he was standing. At last! Dr.
Pettrovich! The doctor says hes willing to help you out by telling you
Metal Gears weakness, but not until hes sure that his daughter is
safe. She is somewhere inside this building as well. Looks like youre
not quite done yet.
Head back through the gas area to the entrance of the building and use
#5 on the door to your left. Get that mask back on, because youre back
in gassy world. Punch around the top area of the little corner you are
in until you find another hidden door, and go through. Use #1 on the
first door you encounter to free another hostage, then continue onward.
The next door opens with #5 and holds rations, so restock if you need
to, and keep going. In the area immediately south of the room with the
rations, punch along the left-hand wall to find yet another secret area,
and go through it. Hug the bottom wall in this room, theres a pitfall
in the upper area. Punch the wall north of this rooms exit door for yet
another hidden area. This one has two ammo crates, so reload all of your
weapons if you need to, then use 6# to open the door to the south.
Welcome to the Pitfall Zone. As you can see, you cant see anything.
Equip the light to change that and proceed southward. Diane will call
you on every screen of this area, warning you not to fall into any pits.
Try and do what she says. The pitfall freezing trick is invaluable here.
Eventually, youll reach another door. Key through it with #1 and keep
going south.
A couple of screens later, youll come to a room with a door to the
south and one to the north. Use #5 to access the northern room. Theres
a pitfall in here, and if it opens up entirely, it will block your way.
So freeze it with the pitfall trick, then punch around on the left hand
wall to find another secret door. And theres Ellen! You are nine tenths
of the way done now.
PART 6: IN THE END
Head back through the pitfall zone to Dr. Pettrovichs cell. He will
tell you that the best way to disable Metal Gear is to destroy the super
computer that controls it. It will take 16 plastic explosives to do so.
Your work here is done. Leave Building 3, and by foot or truck, make
your way back to building 4 again.
After taking the elevator to the tenth level of hell again, open the
door on the right side of the room with #8 and free the prisoner in
there. He tells you that Big Boss is, in fact, Outer Heavens commander
(as if you hadnt figured that out by now). Head west and ignore the
frantic call from Big Boss to abort the mission. Use #8 to card through
the door here.
Put that gas mask back on and head north. Ignore the door on the right,
it leads to a pitfall. Take the left-hand path. Use #1 to get through
the door in the next area. Youve got more gas to deal with, so put the
mask back on. There are mines in this room too, but you cant use the
detector without choking to death on the toxic fumes. Youre strong
enough at this point to take a few hits from some mines, so dont worry
about shooting them. Also, there are apparently invisible hostages in
this room, and if your bullets hit them youll lose ranks.
The next room holds the final electric floor in the game. Jennifer calls
and tells you theres no way to shut it down. You need to hoof it
across. Heal as necessary and make certain youre healed before you step
through the last door.
SUPER COMPUTER---There are three guards in this room; take them out
quickly with a spraying from your SMG. Then, turn your attention to the
super computer. Plant plastic explosives on it until the machine is
destroyed. Probably the simplest fight in the entire game.
After the super computer is wrecked, the bases self-destruct system
automatically arms, giving you 1999 seconds to get out of Outer Heaven
before you go up in flames with it. Use your cigarettes now to add
another 1000 seconds to the clock, don your combat armor for the final
fight, and then run to the room on your right.
BIG BOSS---You didnt really expect to get out without taking down this
sleaze bucket, did you? After a brief exchange where Big Boss
sorta-kinda explains his motives, hell attack you. Use the rocket
launcher on him; nothing else really does damage. Your biggest problem
here is going to be hitting the guy, as Big Boss is fairly fast, and
your rockets are fairly slow. It definitely takes some timing, but this
fight is in no way particularly difficult. After hes taken about 10
hits from the rocket launcher, Boss will kick it, and the elevators
leading out of Outer Heaven will open up.
Remember what Jennifers brother said, Take the left elevator. Do just
that and you will be well on your way back to home base when Outer
Heaven explodes. Congratulations, Snake. Mission accomplished!
