I Introduction (A1A)

I love fantasy drafts and ever since Madden 06 for Xbox 360, I have missed them.
Now that this feature is back in Madden 08, I decided to play around with it
many times and figured out that a set order is made for the CPU to draft by. If
you simulate multiple drafts and let the computer pick every time nothing will
change except for the name of the team. However, picking players out of order
can change the exact makeup of the draft.
For example, Calvin Johnson will be selected in the 6th round 1st pick if the
draft is completely simulated, but by making manual selections the CPU may take
him somewhere in the 5th round. Therefore, use the following list of all draft
selections made as a general guide to who will be available when you pick. It
will not work exactly the same every time, but you can look ahead and make the
best picks knowing who will come off the board next.
Also, this guide is written for the default rosters. Make sure that you don’t
have an online roster update loaded when you start your draft. You may have to
delete all saved rosters before starting.

All players that were Free Agents to start the draft remain in the Free Agent
Pool after the draft. This makes signing free agents specifically to trade
HUGE. Some might think it is cheap or wrong, but guys like Al Wilson, Donovan
Darius, and Domanick Williams can really help when you are trying to land a top
tier player.
When you sign free agents, you should give them a great salary but NO SIGNING
BONUS!!! That will mean you can avoid cap penalties when you trade.
The only way to make a good trade for someone who is a premier player, I'll use
Champ Bailey as an example, is to add players of the same position that either
take down the A++ rating to an A, or boost one of your own player's ratings.
To get Champ I had to include Ellis Hobbs. Not only was he a D, but he made
Champ Bailey's value go down to an A making it easy to include Al Wilson (C+)
and someone else for him and draft picks.
An example of boosting the value of your own guys is when I traded for Calvin
Johnson. Santonio Holmes by himself was a D, but when I signed Eric Moulds (an
F), Holmes' rating moved up to a D+. The final deal was something like Santonio
Holmes, Eric Moulds, and another D free agent for a B+ Calvin Johnson.
Since it is easy to get certain positions in a trade, I decide not to draft them
until late. CBs go fast, but why waste the 4th overall selection on Champ
Bailey? There is a point in the draft that no more CBs get taken for a while,
so just take Fabian Washington and Ellis Hobbs with the intention of trading
them. It is the same for every other position too. Just wait for young talent
at the position and pick them to trade.
After I traded for Champ Bailey, I noticed that his former team, the Jets, was
horrible. You can't win with Seneca Wallace starting at QB, and Kerry Rhodes as
your best player. Naturally I would want to trade for their first round draft
pick. Yank11 brought it to my attention that after you trade for the guys you
want on your team, you can sign free agents and package them for first round
draft picks. So try to target the weakest teams in the league and take their
first rounder.
Mdm309 added that one of the main keys to getting the most out of your trades is
to make sure you always max out what you receive. I can trade Tye Hill, a 2nd,
and 3rd round pick for Champ Bailey. However, rather than leaving it at that it
is better to add in a 4th and 5th round pick. If you make 5 or 6 trades and you
are able to get an extra 4th, 5th, or 6th rounder every time, you can package
these picks together to obtain more assets for future trades (you can trade
three 4ths for a 2nd, three 5ths for a 3rd, three 6ths for a 4th). Just by
simply adding those "garbage picks" on to a trade, you could potentially end up
with a few 2nd round picks.

(Keep in mind these are just top 3 in my opinion, not who you SHOULD draft)
1st : Ladainian Tomlinson, Champ Bailey, Shawne Merriman, or Randy Moss
2nd : Jonathon Vilma, Lofa Tatupa, and Calvin Johnson
3rd : Brian Westbrook, Braylon Edwards, and John Lynch
4th : Nate Clements, Santana Moss, and Aaron Schobel
5th : Chris Samuels, William Thomas, and Adalius Thomas
6th : Frank Gore, Patrick Willis, and Brian Dawkins
7th : Deangelo Hall (by far), Marcus Trufant, and Antoine Winfield
8th : Olin Kreutz, Jeff Saturday, Edge, McGahee, or Portis
9th : Way too many (A.J., Ware, Sims, AP, Bush, or MJD)
10th : Tony Romo, Sean Taylor, and Julius Jones (for some reason he plays like
he is a 95)

Guidelines...
1st Round: You want to go with someone dominant on Defense: like Urlacher (4th),
Champ (5th), Peppers(9th) or Merriman(29th). Whatever suits your style (and
based on what pick number you have)
2nd Round: You probably want to get a great receiver no matter where you pick.
If you like Calvin Johnson, take him! A lot of receivers go late, so if you
pick early take a good young MLB (Tatupa or Vilma). That way you can take
Braylon Edwards or Santana Moss in the next round.
3rd Round: You may want to even get a second great receiver (or first). I would
target Braylon Edwards or Santana Moss.
4th Round: Take a DE here (whatever suits your style).
5th Round: Take a LT here (target Samuels or William Thomas)
6th and 7th Round: I would Take 2 out of these three: AJ Hawk, Demarcus Ware,
or Ernie Sims.
8th Round: Take Adrian Peterson, Reggie Bush or Maurice Jones-Drew.
9th: Take either Romo or Sean Taylor.
10th: Take either an elite TE or take Terrell Suggs (97 as a DE)
11th: The QB that best suits your style (otherwise take Vernon Davis)
12th: Vernon Davis or a SS (I like Laron Landry)
13th: Super Mario Williams or a FS (if you don’t have one)
14th: The FB that best suits your style (Jim Kleinsasser, a TE, is a 92 as a FB)
15th and 16th Round: Your favorite CB and or WR. (I would take Tye Hill then
Fabian Washington)
17th: Get Carriker
18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st: Fill positions based on your style of play
22nd: Lechler (or another punter you may like)
23rd: Vinatieri (or another kicker you may like)
So now you should have something that looks like this:
QB,HB,FB,WR,WR,LT,TE,DE,DE,DT,OLB,OLB,CB,CB,FS,SS,K,P,
and your choice of a CB or WR (and 4 others).
Make sure you take Hester in the 41st round (he is the last pick of that round).

Keep in mind that these are just Guidelines. You can do whatever will bring your
franchise a championship or whatever makes the game fun for you.
