===============================================================================

This FAQ details the changes between the original version and the Final Mix
version of Kingdom Hearts.  It does not deal with the American version, although
it will be mentioned from time to time.  Accordingly, the English names used
throughout will sometimes not be in keeping with the official translation.

Notes on recent updates can be found at the end of this FAQ.  The latest version
can be found at GameFAQs.  This FAQ is not to be posted on any other site.

1. Limited Edition and Bonus Items  ------------------ 限定版やボーナスアイテム
===============================================================================
This section deals with everything external to the game itself, i.e. all the
stuff outside of the world of your PlayStation 2 and your TV screen.

Pre-order Free Gifts ------------------------------------------------- 予約特典
===============================================================================
The original release of Kingdom Hearts on the 28th of March 2002 had a pre-order
campaign in which you received a Kingdom Hearts desktop calendar in a CD case
when you bought the game.  It's the same deal as the Final Mix one (see below),
but for 2002.  However, for the 26th December 2002 release of Final Mix, there
were two separate pre-order campaigns to choose from, depending on where you
bought the game.

Kingdom Hearts -Final Mix- Additional Tracks ----------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you bought the game at a conbini (a Japanese abbreviation for convenience
store), you received a special 4-track bonus music CD.  The track listing is as
follows:

Composed and Arranged by Yoko Shimomura
  1. 「片翼の天使 (from Final Fantasy VII)」より
     Composed by Nobuo Uematsu
  2. 「交響詩 禿げ山の一夜」より
     Composed by M. Moussorgsky
  3. Disappeared
  4. Another Side
     Piano: Masato Matsuda
Recording & Mixing Engineer: Toshiyuki Yoshida
     Recording Studio: Greenbird Studio

English Translation

  1. One Winged Angel (from Final Fantasy VII)
     Composed by Nobuo Uematsu
  2. A Night on the Bare Mountain
     Composed by M. Mussorgsky
  3. Disappeared
  4. Another Side
     Piano: Masato Matsuda
Recording & Mixing Engineer: Toshiyuki Yoshida
     Recording Studio: Greenbird Studio

- One Winged Angel is played during the Platinum Match with Sephiroth, as well
as during the Cloud versus Sephiroth scene.
- A Night on the Bare Mountain is played during the boss fight with Fantasia no
Majin (aka Chernabog) at the End of the World.  The original version used a
different tune for this battle.
- Disappeared is played during the fight with Unknown.
- Another Side is played during the Deep Dive secret ending movie.

Kingdom Hearts -Final Mix- Original Trumps ----------------- オリジナルトランプ
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you bought the game at a game shop or department store, you received a
special Kingdom Hearts deck of cards.  (Cards are called トランプ, trumps, in
Japanese.)

The four suits are Hearts and Keys (red), Crowns and Heartless (black).  All the
marks are adjusted accordingly.  Non-number cards feature CG art of Kingdom
Hearts characters as detailed below.  The card back features a black and white
version of the Kingdom Hearts "Foreboding" Tetsuya Nomura art.

Thanks to outlaw97 and Jennifer Califf for the following details.

Ace of Hearts      - Kingdom Hearts Final Mix Logo
King of Hearts     - Sora
Queen of Hearts    - Kairi
Jack of Hearts     - Riku

Ace of Keys        - Donald

Standard and Limited Edition ----------------------------------- 一般版と限定版
===============================================================================
The original release of Kingdom Hearts did not include a limited edition package.
It came in a standard DVD case, with a greyscale version of Nomura's
"Foreboding" drawing (minus the heart-shaped moon background) on a black
backdrop for the cover.  The main picture on the back cover was the CD shot of
Sora with feathers.

The Kingdom Hearts Final Mix standard edition features a new Nomura drawing,
made specially for Final Mix, "Rest (Day)", either in colour or again in
greyscale (there are two versions), but this time the backdrop is metallic
silver.  The back cover's main picture is the colour version of "Foreboding".

Both standard versions sold for 6,800 yen, and were released on the 28th of
March 2002 and the 26th December 2002, respectively.

Kingdom Hearts Final Mix Platinum Limited ------------------ プラチナリミテッド
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The special edition of Final Mix came in a box about the size of three DVD cases.
It included the standard version of Final Mix, along with a cardboard box
containing extras.  The extras were as follows.

- A sheet of eight Kingdom Hearts stickers.
- A postcard calendar featuring Tetsuya Nomura artwork, contained in a CD case.
- A block figure of Sora, part of Square's Minimum Collection.
- Three can badges.

The Platinum Limited set was released at the same time as the standard version
of Final Mix, and cost 8,800 yen.

===============================================================================
2. The Start Menu ------------------------------------------------ タイトル画面
===============================================================================
The original game features a drawing of Sora on the beach with a piece of grass
in his mouth on the Start Menu.  Final Mix features a new drawing of a hooded
Sora holding a flag, which starts fades to a close-up after a second or two.

Special Movie ---------------------------------------------- スペシャルムービー
===============================================================================
Included on the Final Mix DVD is a trailer movie for Final Fantasy X-2.  You can
access it at the main menu screen, in a new third option after New Game and Load
Game, called Special Movie.

3 Difficulty Levels ------------------------------------ 難易度が3つのモードに
===============================================================================
The original game had only one, default, difficulty setting.  Final Mix
introduces three levels.  Following are some general details (taken from the
game's manual) and then more specific details (taken from the Ultimania 増補改訂
版 guide).

Final Mix: Beginner ------------------------------ ファイナルミックス:ビギナー
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An easy game mode designed for those new to games, in which you have rare items
from the start and battle conditions are shifted in your favour.

- Sora starts the game with a Ribbon, an EXP Necklace, 8 Power Ups, 8 Guard Ups
and 4 AP Ups.
- The Drill Gummi's Attack Power is 9,999.  (It's usually 35.)
- Neither secret movie is shown at the end of the game.
- The save file is recorded as FMBG.

Final Mix -------------------------------------------------- ファイナルミックス
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The recommended level to play Kingdom Hearts on your first play through, the
standard difficulty level has a good balance between easy and hard.  Note that
it is not the same as the original version of Kingdom Hearts; the game balance
has been fine-tuned.

- In the Gummi Ship sections, damage from enemy ships is twice that in the
original game.  Your own ship's Attack Power is only 2/3 what it was in the
original game.
- Either of the secret movies can be viewed under certain conditions.
- The save file is recorded as FM.

Final Mix: Proud --------------------------------- ファイナルミックス:プラウド
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Strong enemies and thrilling battles make for a challenge for veteran players.

- Damage received from enemies is twice that in the original game.
- In the Gummi Ship sections, damage from enemy ships is four times that in the
original game.  Your own ship's Attack Power is only 1/2 what it was in the
original game.
- Either of the secret movies can be viewed, and the conditions are much easier
than in the normal difficulty level.  Also, the picture displayed at the end of
the end sequence changes depending on certain conditions.
- A Battle Report is shown at the end of the end sequence.
- The save file is recorded as FMPR.

===============================================================================
3. Miscellaneous Changes --------------------------------------- 変更オムニバス
===============================================================================

Event Skip --------------------------------------------------- イベントスキップ
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is a new feature that allows you to skip events which you have seen before.
This means that if you are killed by a boss and choose Continue instead of Load
Game, you can choose to skip straight to the fight.

Strangely, this does not apply with Sephiroth and the Platinum Match in the
Coliseum.  You must defeat him before the intro to the Platinum Match stops
playing.

Camera Change ---------------------------------------------------- カメラの変更
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the original version of Kingdom Hearts, Sora would sometimes get in the way
of the camera in tight spots, blocking your view almost completely.  To remedy
this, there is a new feature to the camera that makes Sora transparent when he
is too close to the camera.

Unfortunately this feature does not apply to your allies, which is a shame
because Beast especially can be a big obstruction to seeing what's in front of
you, especially in tight spots.

Config Menu -------------------------------------------------------- コンフィグ
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The difficulty level ("Game Mode") is displayed in the Config menu.  However, it
cannot be changed after the initial selection at the start of the game.  Also in
the Config Menu, "Hard Disk Unit" has been changed to "PlayStation BB Unit" in
line with the official name change of the PlayStation peripheral.

Enemy Colour Change ---------------------------------------------- 敵外見の変更
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Most but not all of the enemies have had a palette shift.  Generally the colours
are earthier in Final Mix.  It was previously speculated that only those
monsters who have been powered up in Final Mix have had their colours changed,
but this is not the case, because all of the monsters have had their stats
tweaked at least a little.

Trinity Changes ---------------------------------------------- トリニティの変更
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The one Trinity that was only obtainable at a certain point in the game, the Red
Trinity on Oogie Boogie's lair in Halloween Town, has been moved to allow it to
be collected at any point once you have access to its location.

Additionally, some of the Trinity points have had their contents changed,
especially the White Trinity points, a few of which now include some of the 99
missing Dalmatians.

101 Dalmatians Changes --------------------------------- 101匹わんちゃんの変更
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Various groups of the 99 missing Dalmatians have had their locations tweaked.
Also the prize list for rescuing them has been changed.

Puppies      Location
37, 38, 39   Agrabah - Magic Cave: Treasure Room
40, 41, 42   Halloween Town - Oogie Boogie's Lair
43, 44, 45   Neverland - Pirate Ship: Deck (White Trinity)
46, 47, 48   Agrabah - Magic Cave: Hidden Chamber
58, 59, 60   Wonderland - Flower arch near White Trinity, cast Thunder on it
67, 68, 69   Halloween Town - The Moonlit Hill (White Trinity)
76, 77, 78   Monstro - Stomach Number 6
97, 98, 99   Hollow Bastion - Tram Station, cast Gravity to lower the chest

Kingdom Hearts ----------------------------------------------------
Puppies   Present from Pongo and Perdita --------------------------
12        ケアルガグミ              Curaga Gummi
21        ファイガグミ              Firaga Gummi
30        サンダラグミ              Thundara Gummi
42        ミスリルのかけら          Mithril Shard

81        アルテマグミ              Ultima Gummi
90        リボン                    Ribbon
99        風の力&グミフルセット    Power of Wind & Gummi Full Set

Kingdom Hearts -Final Mix- ----------------------------------------
Puppies   Present from Pongo and Perdita --------------------------
12        ケアルガグミ              Curaga Gummi
21        ファイガグミ              Firaga Gummi
30        サンダラグミ              Thundara Gummi
42        ミスリルのかけら          Mithril Shard
51        ちぎれたページ&ミスリル  Torn Page & Mithril
60        ラストエリクサー          Megalixir
72        オリハルコン              Orichalcum
81        アルテマグミ              Ultima Gummi
90        テックアップ              Tech Up
99        風の力&グミきほんセット  Power of Wind & Gummi Basic Set

According to Ultimania, the Gummi Full Set brought all of your Gummi Blocks to
their maximum capacity, so that you then had a complete set of all possible
Gummi Blocks.  I haven't checked my game but I don't think it provides ALL the
blocks.

The Gummi Basic Set provides you with a full set only of all types of Shields
and Wings.

Chests ------------------------------------------------------------------- 宝箱
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Many of the chests have had their contents revised.  In particular the pointless
Dispel Gummi chests have all been changed into better items, but there have been
many other changes too.

Voice Actors ------------------------------------------------------------- 声優
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While the original game used a cast of Japanese actors to voice the characters,
Final Mix uses the English voice acting done for the American version of the
game.  The original Japanese text is preserved throughout, however.  And unlike
Final Fantasy X International, there is no option to change to English text.

With the exception of Sora and Goofy in the scene with Unknown (which re-uses
lines from other parts of the game), none of the extra scenes created for Final
Mix but not featured in the American edition have voice acting; they use either
subtitling or text boxes exclusively.

===============================================================================
4. Gummi Ship Changes ---------------------------------------------------------
===============================================================================
This section is not high priority and so will probably not be updated anytime
soon.  しばらくお待ち下さい。

The short story is that there are various new Gummi Blocks, and each world has
three missions for which you win "designer" Gummi Blocks and new ship designs.

===============================================================================
5. Abilities and Experience ---------------------------------- アビリティと経験
===============================================================================
The main characters' Abilities have been majorly revised, including the addition
of quite a number of new abilities.  Experience charts have also been tweaked.

Sora's Abilities --------------------------------------------- ソラのアビリティ

There are three different tables for Sora, depending on which power you chose at
the beginning of the game: Attack (Sword), Magic (Rod), or Defence (Shield).

Experience Chart Changes ----------------------------------------- 経験表の変更
===============================================================================
Various different changes have been made to the charts, but here we will look
only at the effect of this on Sora's starting and final stats, at levels 1 and
100.  If there is a demand for it, I could certainly provide the full charts,
but it seems like a waste of space in this FAQ to me.

Donald's stats have seen very few changes.  His starting Defence has been
lowered from 3 to 1, and in levelling up he gets two more AP at the expense of
Attack at level 61 and Defence at level 64.  The most significant change is in
his revival time, the time that it takes for him to recover after being knocked
out.  This has been changed from 60 to 80 seconds.

Goofy's chart has been significantly tweaked, but the end result is only a
maximum AP two higher than before, with a corresponding drop in Defence.  As
with Donald, his revival time has been lengthened.  For Goofy it has gone from
45 to 60 seconds.

Tarzan's starting AP have been raised from 16 to 19, his revival time changed
from 45 to 60 seconds.

Aladdin's starting AP has been lowered from 12 to 11.

Jack's starting AP has been raised from 16 to 17.

Peter Pan has had his starting AP reduced from 26 to 22.

Lastly, the Beast has had his starting AP increased from 12 up to 17.

===============================================================================
6. Items ------------------------------------------------------------- アイテム
===============================================================================

New Weapons -------------------------------------------------------- 新たな武器
===============================================================================
There are two new weapons for each of the three main characters in Final Mix.

Sora / Keyblades ------------------------------------------- ソラ・キーブレード
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sora gets a cool new long Keyblade that rivals Ultima Weapon in power thanks to
its amazing Critical Power Boost, and another for magic-lovers that increases
his maximum MP more than ever before.

One Winged Angel / 片翼の天使
Attack Power: + 8
Maximum MP: - 2
Critical Rate: x 0.5
Critical Power: + 16
Kick: 90
Size: Long
Obtained by defeating Sephiroth in the Platinum Match at the Olympus Coliseum.

Diamond Dust / ダイヤモンドダスト
Attack Power: + 3
Maximum MP: + 3
Critical Rate: x 1
Critical Power: 0
Kick: 1
Size: Mid-length
Obtained by defeating the Ice Titan in the Gold Match at the Olympus Coliseum.

Donald / Staffs -------------------------------------------------- ドナルド・杖
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Donald's weapons follow a similar path to Sora's.  He gets a new ultimate weapon,
with a great critical hit rate that is rare for Donald (only the Critical Mace
could deal critical hits before Final Mix), but which doesn't give any MP.  Then
he gets a low-attack, high-magic weapon.

Meteo Strike / メテオストライク
Attack Power: + 13
Critical Rate: x 1
Critical Power: + 4
Kick: 90
Size: Long
End of the World: Giant Crevasse, in a treasure chest.

Fantasista / ファンタジスタ
Attack Power: + 3
Maximum MP: + 3
Critical Rate: x 0
Kick: 30
Size: Long
The 31st Item Synthesis item.

Goofy / Shields ------------------------------------------------ グーフィー・盾
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Goofy got the worst deal with ultimate weapons, as his new Massive Bumper
delivers on attack power and kick, but that's all.  Save the King is probably
better.  His magic weapon however gets a slightly higher Attack Power than Sora
and Donald's.

Massive Bumper / マッシブバンパー
Attack Power: + 15
Critical Rate: x 0
Kick: 90
Size: Small
End of the World: Neverland section, in a treasure chest.

Seven Elements / セブンエレメンツ
Attack Power: + 4
Maximum MP: + 3
Critical Rate: x 0
Kick: 1
Size: Medium
The 32nd Synthesis item.

Changed Weapons ---------------------------------------------------- 武器の変更
===============================================================================
A few weapons have had their stats tweaked in Final Mix.  In general, Critical
Power and Attack Power have been lowered on Keyblades.  Some weapons have had
their Attack Power raised, though; mostly Staffs and Shields.

Sora / Keyblades ------------------------------------------- ソラ・キーブレード
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
La Vie en Rose has overtaken Memories Past as the second most powerful Keyblade,
although One Winged Angel is a rival for that position now too.  Ultima Weapon
remains the best with a power boost of its own, though its Critical Power takes
a dive, as with all Sora's other + 4 weapons.

Fairy Harp / フェアリーハープ
Critical Rate: x 1 > x 0.5
Critical Power: + 4 --> + 2

Wish Star / ウィッシュスター
Critical Power: + 4 --> + 2

Metal Chocobo / メタルチョコボ
Attack Power: + 10 --> + 9

Power of Hero / パワーオブヒーロー
Attack Power: + 9 --> + 10
Critical Rate: x 1.5 --> x 1
Critical Power: + 4 --> + 2

Last Resort / ラストリゾート
Attack Power: + 8 --> + 7

La Vie en Rose / ラヴィアンローズ
Attack Power: + 10 --> + 13

Memories Past / 過ぎ去りし思い出
Critical Power: + 4 --> + 2

Ultima Weapon / アルテマウエポン
Attack Power: + 12 --> + 14
Critical Power: + 4 --> + 2

Donald / Staffs -------------------------------------------------- ドナルド・杖
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's power ups galore for Donald, with the only exceptions being Critical Mace
and Rod of Dreams.

Lord Fortune / ロードフォーチュン
Attack Power: + 6 --> + 7

Critical Mace / クリティカルメイス
Attack Power: + 9 --> + 11
Critical Power: + 9 --> + 7

Wizard's Relic / ウィザーズレリック
Attack Power: + 5 --> + 8

Rod of Dreams / ロッドオブドリーム
Attack Power: + 8 --> + 5

Save the Queen / セイヴザクイーン
Attack Power: + 9 --> + 10

Goofy / Shields ------------------------------------------------ グーフィー・盾
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Less changes for Goofy: three attack power boosts and the Guard of Dreams gets a
power down.

Genji's Shield / 源氏の盾
Attack Power: + 8 --> + 10

Defender / ディフェンダー
Attack Power: + 10 --> + 13

Guard of Dreams / ガードオブドリーム
Maximum MP: + 2 --> + 1

7. Jiminy Memo Changes ------------------------------------- ジミニーメモの変更
===============================================================================
Various changes have been made to the game's Jiminy Memo section.

- The first obvious change is that the original's brown notebook has been
replaced with a nicer light blue one.
- The order the sections appear in has been changed.
- Dates have been added in for the first appearances of the Disney characters.
- Not-yet-encountered Heartless are now listed as a string of ? question marks.
- When the notes have been updated a flashing NEW icon appears next to both the
section and the individual entry that has been updated.
- Once a section has been completed a yellow Mickey icon appears next to that
section's title.  When all sections have been completed the yellow Mickey icon
appears in the main menu next to the Jiminy Memo option.

In opening the door that stores a world's hearts, the wall around that world is
broken down.  We see this as a shooting star.  Through this, I have been able to
understand the reason why the material known as Gummi Blocks has the ability to
allow travel to other worlds.

The cause of a world's wall collapsing is the appearance of the Heartless, but
finding a world's door takes time.  And robbing a world of its heart is a
similar case.

If the door has been closed by the key known as the Keyblade, you probably
cannot reach that world's heart again.  Before the one with the Keyblade appears
in this world, I must take measures to do something.

Supposing that there is a close relationship between the Princesses and the
Keyblade, it seems likely that they will resonate with each other...

I have chosen one special girl.  I do not know if she possesses a power like
that of the Princesses.  But, there is a chance, and this is an experiment.  She
may lead me to the place where the one holding the key is...

I shall send her off to the ocean of other worlds.

I have transcended to an existence of only the heart.  I should have come back
as a Heartless, but there is no sign of such a transformation.

My body has surely perished.  However, I am different from the other Heartless,
keeping the memories of before, and I have not taken on the form of a Heartless.
It is clear that there are still many things to be studied.

In order to cross over to the dark side, which is not this world, you must go
beyond the door of Kingdom Hearts, the place connected to the world's heart.

The innermost part connected to the world's heart, the place connecting to the
world of darkness.  (I will record the details in another report...)

There are still so many unknown worlds.

The present world.
The world of darkness.
The world of light.

And,
The world in-between.

Where does the true paradise lie, I wonder?

Translation by Thorfinn Tait.

When the heart casts off the flesh, where does the body go?

Heart and soul are separate, and the spirit remains in the body.  But can we
assume that the leftover body and soul perish?

Certainly when the heart changes into a Heartless the body disappears.

However, that is only this world's story; in another world, mightn't they change
forms like the Heartless and exist there?

If we take that to be the case, there must be a you other than yourself existing
somewhere.

An existence neither of darkness nor of light.
An in-between existence.
Cast off by the heart, a mere shell, one who begrudges both the darkness and the
light.

This mystery cannot be easily resolved.
The relationship between the heart and the flesh is a complex one.

But since we exist here, they cannot be termed as existent.

Therefore I shall call them...

    "The non-existent ones."

===============================================================================
8. New Enemies ------------------------------------------------------- 新たな敵
===============================================================================
Final Mix introduces 10 (11 if you count Missile Diver) new Heartless and 4 new
bosses to be fought.

New Heartless ------------------------------------------------ 新たなハートレス
===============================================================================
There is one new Heartless for each world except for the Olympus Coliseum.
These new enemies are a little stronger than normal Heartless, and most have
special attacks and take a specific strategy to kill.  Each enemy drops one of
the new items for synthesis use.

Sniper Wild / スナイパーワイルド ----------------------------------------------
Traverse Town - Town Area 2
Prizes: Power Drops (35% chance after killing 6; 50% chance after killing 12;
60% chance after killing 18; 100% chance after killing 24; 100% chance of
getting 2 Power Drops after killing all 30)

Overview
Pink monkey-like Heartless, Sniper Wilds look similar to Bouncy Wilds.  Randomly
appear in the middle of the area.  Coming from Town Area 1, you can easily tell
if there are Sniper Wilds or not, because the Wyverns just inside the entrance
will not appear.  If they do, just go out and come back until they don't.  Also,
you will be able to see the Sniper Wild wandering around almost as soon as you
enter the area.

To start with there is just one.  As you kill them more are called.  If any of
them spot you, they will lock on, and proceed to fire invisible projectiles that
always hit.  If this happens, the only recourse is to run away as fast as
possible.

Strategy
To state things simply, don't let them see you.  There are various ways to do
this.  You can hide and jump out at them, you can try and kill them before they
get a chance to see you, you can use Stop so that they never have a chance to
see you and lock on.

Gigant Shadow / ギガントシャドウ ----------------------------------------------
Wonderland - Mysterious Room
Prizes: Fighting Spirit Drops (10% chance if you only kill 3; 20% chance if you
kill 4; 35% chance if you kill 5; 50% chance if you kill 6; 100% chance of
getting 2 Fighting Spirit Drops if you kill all 7)

Overview
Giant versions of the most basic type of Heartless.  When you enter the room
(from either save point is fine, but using the Queen's Court save point is
faster since you start off small), you will encounter only regular Shadow
Heartless, in waves of increasing numbers.  If you encounter anything else, go
out and come back in until you get Shadows.

Once you've killed about three waves, seven Gigant Shadows will appear.  No
special strategy is needed to kill them, just do it as fast as you can before
they disappear.  The more you kill, the more likely you are to get a prize.

Black Ballade / ブラックバラード ----------------------------------------------
Deep Jungle - Bamboo-fenced area
Prizes: Echoing Drops (10% chance when you hit the correct Black Ballade; 100%
chance if you hit the right one all 4 times)

Overview
Upon entering the bamboo-fenced area, there should be a single Black Ballade
hovering over the bump in the middle of the area.  If not, go out and come back
in until there is.  When you approach, it will reveal its friends, and the 5
Black Ballades will line up.  They will dance and change positions.

Strategy
You have to hit the correct one each round.  Just before they change positions,
one will bob up and down.  Stay at a distance so you can see all five and keep
your eye on this one.  When they stop moving, go and hit it.  If you were right,
it will be knocked back.  If you were wrong, it won't be affected by your attack
and you'll get zapped.  Hit the correct one as many times as you can in the four
rounds before they disappear.

Pot Scorpion / ポットスコーピオン ---------------------------------------------
Agrabah - In front of the Palace (the third screen of the town)
Prizes: Mithril Drops (20%; 35% chance if you destroy the other 11 pots before
killing it; 10% chance upon smashing the 11th pot)

Overview
When you enter the screen, the area will be filled with twelve pots.  The Pot
Scorpion is hiding in one of these pots.  It looks similar to a Pot Spider, only
it has the appendages of a scorpion instead of a spider.  The Pot Scorpion is
impervious to normal attacks, and runs around belching poison and snapping it's
claws at you.

Strategy
First, the pots.  You can find out which pot holds the scorpion by pushing the
pots around; all the other pots will yield to Sora's efforts, but the one with
the scorpion will be rooted to the spot and won't budge an inch.  So using this
information destroy all the other pots before attacking the Pot Scorpion to
increase your chances of getting a prize.

For the actual attack, there are two basic methods: Aero-type magic and Reflect
Guard.  Either attack will slowly injure the Pot Scorpion and after a moment it
will be knocked unconscious briefly, allowing you to get in one proper hit with
your Keyblade.  Continue in this manner, reflecting its attacks and staying
close so that your Aero hits it, and it won't last long.

Grand Ghost / グランドゴースト ------------------------------------------------
Monstro - Belly (where you fought the boss)
Prizes: Freezing Drops (100%; 5% chance if you use a Megapotion on it; 10%
chance if you use a Mega Ether; 35% chance if you use an Elixir; 20% chance and
100% chance if you use a Megalixir)

Overview
A giant Search Ghost, impervious to all attacks and magic.

Strategy
The Grand Ghost's only weakness is curative items.  Equip Sora with lots of Hi-
Potions and throw them at it until it dies.  You can use better items to
increase your chance of getting prizes, but it's a bit of a waste, especially
considering that you will always get at least one Freezing Drop anyway.

Pink Agaricus / ピンクアガリクス ----------------------------------------------
Atlantica - hole near the entrance to the palace
Deep Jungle - The Treetop House
Prizes: Fulfilling Force (10% chance each at 40, 50 and 60 hits; 20% chance at
70, 80 and 90; 100% chance at 100 hits)

Overview
Upon entering the screen (either world), you will find 3 "stopped" White
Mushrooms hidden around the area.  There aren't many hiding places in Atlantica,
while in the Deep Jungle Treetop House there are three different locations for
each Mushroom.  Cast Stop-type magic on each White Mushroom and it will come to
life and reward you with MP balls.  When you free the third mushroom, the giant
green and pink coloured Pink Agaricus will appear.  It appears in the centre of
the area in Atlantica, and inside the house on the ground floor in the Deep
Jungle.  Attacking causes it to disappear.

Strategy
You have to cast Stop-type magic on the Pink Agaricus before hitting it.  Then,
while it's stopped, hit it as many times as you can before it wakes up.  When it
awakens, it will give you increasing amounts of Tech points for each hit (1 for
the first hit, 2 for the second hit, and so on).  At each 10 hits, you have a
chance of getting a prize (see above).  To get the big prize, you need to hit it
at least 40 times.

First, it's better to go to the Deep Jungle, because fighting underwater is more
restrictive.  Before you cast Stop, cast Aero-type magic on Sora, Donald and
Goofy, and make sure Sora has a short Keyblade equipped (such as La Vie en Rose
or Diamond Dust) for the fastest hit-rate.  It doesn't matter if you use Stop,
Stopra or Stopga, the Pink Agaricus stays stopped for the same length of time.
You'll also want lots of MP (if necessary replenish your MP after casting Aero),
and Goofy's MP Gift ability.

From here on there are two strategies, depending on which ability Sora uses.
Either way, after casting Stop, attack immediately and press Triangle twice to
call Donald and Goofy in too.

Last Arcanum
This is the easier method, because all it involves is using Last Arcanum as much
as possible before the Pink Agaricus wakes up.  If you are quick and Goofy is
timely with his MP Gifts, you'll be able to use it three times, getting to just
over 50 hits.

Ragnarok
The harder of the two, because your timing for the Impact command dictates how
many hits you get.  Also, you must target the Pink Agaricus and press R2 to
switch to the upper half of its body before starting, because Ragnarok requires
an aerial target.  When you attack, you want to hit Impact at exactly 1 second
to get the maximum number of hits (25).  According to Ultimania, you can do this
three times before it wakes up, and together with the other strategies you
should be able to get to 100 hits.  However, this is actually a lot easier said
than done.

Chimaera / キマイラ -----------------------------------------------------------
Halloween Town - The ruins of Oogie Boogie's Lair
Prizes: Blazing Drops (35%; 20% chance if you deflect the bolts shot by the
released heads while it's unconscious 6 times; 40% if you deflect them 9 times)

Overview
A strange robot-like creation with a test-tube style "head" that contains three
decapitated heads.  After entering the ruins of Oogie Boogie's Lair, the
Chimaera will appear after you have killed a few White Nights.  If it doesn't go
away and come back and try again.  The Chimaera has two HP bars, a small one
that when depleted knocks the Chimaera unconscious, and a big one representing
its true HP.  When the Chimaera wakes up its small HP bar regenerates and you
have to knock it unconscious again before you can damage it any more.

Strategy
The Chimaera will jump up onto one of the rocks and attack from there, summoning
Gargoyles.  However, it doesn't require much strategy to kill it.  Basically,
just stay close and keep hitting until it loses consciousness.  Then keep
hitting it still - often you reflect the heads' attacks anyway if you do this.
Having lots of combo plusses equipped probably helps.

Jet Balloon & Missile Diver / ジェットバルーン&ミサイルダイバー --------------
Neverland - Pirate Ship Deck
Prizes: Twinkling Drops (20% and 100%)

Overview
The Jet Balloon appears hovering above the upper deck of the Pirate Ship.  If
other enemies appear, go inside and come out again until you find the Jet
Balloon.  It attacks at some speed, and tries to stay at a distance from Sora
whenever possible.  If you attack it in the air, it will shoot streams of
Missile Divers who knock large amounts of money out of your wallet.

Strategy
Don't fly.  This is the basic strategy.  If you fly, you won't be able to catch
it, and you'll get hit by the Missile Divers while you try.  Attacking it from
the deck it may seem hard to catch the Jet Balloon, but unlike flying, it's not
impossible.  Just be fast and hit it with all you've got and it'll die pretty
quickly.

Stealth Soldier / ステルスソルジャー ------------------------------------------
Hollow Bastion - Entrance Hall
Prizes: Vibrant Drops (35%)

An invisible soldier who attacks at the same time as other monsters in the
Entrance Hall in Hollow Bastion.  You'll have to start fighting the regular
monsters on this screen before the Stealth Soldier appears.  If he doesn't
appear after you've killed the first round or two, go out and try again.  (It
helps to have Encounter Up equipped.)  Of course he doesn't exactly appear,
since he's invisible, but you will be able to see him in the same way you could
see Stealth Sneaks.  Also, he attacks by charging at you in straight lines, and
of course you can lock on to him.

Strategy
Lock on as soon as you can and just hit him as hard as possible.  Don't worry
about the invisibility, though you can use Stop-type magic when he's close to
you if you really want to see him.  You need to kill him quickly or he will
disappear.

Neo Shadow / ネオシャドウ -----------------------------------------------------
End of the World - The room before the final save point
Prizes: Blustery Drops (35% when you kill the last one)

Overview
The more humanoid, grown-up looking Shadows first seen in the secret movie,
Another Side, Another Story.  They appear randomly, but usually within ten times
of going in and out of the room after first entering the area or after loading
up.  So save at the save point, reset and load up and you should find them quite
quickly.  The Neo Shadows attack in a group, helping each other.

Strategy
Though they have various tricks, in the end you just need to hit them with
normal attacks.  This gets vaguely harder as their numbers deplete, but it's
fairly easy to avoid their tricks and no real strategy other than just attacking
it needed.

New Bosses --------------------------------------------------------- 新たなボス
===============================================================================
Of the 4 new bosses, 3 were first introduced in the overseas version of Kingdom
Hearts.  Only Unknown appears for the first time in Final Mix.

Ice Titan / アイスタイタン
Olympus Coliseum - Gold Match
Prizes: Diamond Dust

Sephiroth / セフィロス
Olympus Coliseum - Platinum Match
Prizes: One Winged Angel, Ansem Report 11

Kurt Zisa / カート・ジーサ
Agrabah - Desert (talk to the Flying Carpet in Aladdin's House)
Prizes: Ansem Report 10

Unknown / 謎の男
Hollow Bastion - area reachable through a portal in the Chapel
Prizes: Ansem Report 12

9. New Scenes -------------------------------------------------------- 新シーン
===============================================================================
There are a number of new scenes in Final Mix, of varying size and importance.
Below are transcripts and translations of each scene.  The context of each scene
comes in parentheses at the top of each scene.  The English translations are
given beneath each line of Japanese.  Changes within existing scenes are noted
at the end of the section.

Also see "The Ending" for another scene and a new, second secret movie.

Riku arrives at Hollow Bastion ------------------------------------------------
===============================================================================
A short scene showing what happens to Riku when Sora ends up in Traverse Town.
It shows Riku coming to at the entrance to Hollow Bastion, and calling for his
friends.  There is no answer.  Far above, Maleficent looks on...

Riku in the World of Darkness ---------------------------------- 闇の世界のリク
===============================================================================
(After Sora finds the Navi Gummi and speaks to Kairi in the underground waterway
in Traverse Town.)

Darkness.  A white path winds gently through the black nothingness.

Riku
ソラ−−− カイリ−−−
Sora...  Kairi...

The path slowly turns in our view, and comes onto a horizontal plane.

Riku
すまない−−−
I'm sorry...

We follow the path back...

Riku
ここは 死の 世界?
Is this... the world of death?

..and find Riku, head hung and looking lost, walking along the path.  He
flickers slightly as if not quite totally real.  Then he stumbles and stops as a
blue light surrounds him.  Clutching his chest he talks to himself.

Riku
まだ 消えるわけにはいけない
I can't disappear yet.

The aura subsides.

Riku
もう一度 ソラとカイリに会うまでは−−−
Not until I've met Sora and Kairi one more time...

A voice from the darkness...

     リク 聞こえるかい?
     Riku, can you hear me?

Riku raises his head only fractionally, but looks about warily.

     もうすぐそこに行く
     I'll be there soon.

Riku turns abruptly to see who's there.

Riku
誰だ?
Who's there?

But he faces only darkness.

     もう一つのキーブレード
     こちら側のキーブレードを手に入れた
     Another Keyblade...
I've gotten the Keyblade for this side.

Riku
?

     君にもずっと語りかけてたんだ
     でも 心を覆う闇に阻まれて届かなかった
I've been talking to you all along.
But my words were hindered by the darkness covering your heart.

Riku
誰だか知らないが 俺はどうなったんだ?
I don't know who you are, but...  What's happened to me?

     君の心は闇に打ち勝った
     でも身体は取り戻せなかった
Your heart has overcome the darkness.
But you couldn't take back your body.

     だから奪われた心が集められたこの闇の側に−−−
     心だけが取り残されたんだ
So only your heart was left behind
In this dark side where stolen hearts are gathered.

Riku
俺はどうすればいい?
What should I do?

Riku turns to face the way onwards again.

     これから現れる闇の出入りする扉−−−
     僕らが出入りすることができないその扉を
     両側から閉じるためには
     2つの鍵と2つの心が必要なんだ
The door of darkness that is soon going to appear...
That door, through which we cannot pass...
     In order to close it,
Two keys and two hearts are needed.

     もしかしたら君も 僕同様その為にここに来る
     運命だったのかもしれない
Perhaps you too, like me, come here for that purpose.
     Maybe it was fate.

Riku
運命−−− なんでも知っているんだな
だったらもう一つ教えてほしい−−−
ソラとカイリは無事なのか?
Fate...  You know everything, don't you?
If that's so, I want you to tell me one more thing...
Are Sora and Kairi safe?

On this last line, Riku seems concerned.

     彼らの心は 君自身が感じるはずだ
You yourself should be able to feel their hearts.

From the distance, Sora comes running through the darkness towards Riku.

     相手が自分にどう写るかなんて−−−
     自分の心次第なんだ
     How you perceive your friends...
Is dependent on your own heart.

Sora is very close now.  He is smiling.

Riku has his eyes closed.  He has been imagining Sora.  He opens his eyes,
seemingly much more at ease.

Riku
ありがとう
Thank you.

Fade to white.

Cloud vs. Sephiroth: Showdown of Fate ------- クラウドVSセフィロス:運命の再開
===============================================================================
(After Sora defeats Sephiroth in the Platinum Match for the first time, the
following scene plays when he exits the Arena's antechamber.)

Night.  Cloud, sword drawn, walks into the arena.  He stops as he sees a black
feather slowly drifting down to the ground.  Still focussed on the feather,
Cloud sees a shadow quickly appear behind it, and just as quickly two feet land
softly on the shadow.  He looks up to see Sephiroth.

The arch-enemies stare at each other.

Cloud
やっと会えたな
So we meet at last.

Sephiroth
俺も探していた
I was searching for you too.

Cloud
おまえが存在する限り
俺は悪夢から覚めることができない
As long as you exist,
I can't wake from this nightmare.

お前は俺の闇だ
You are my darkness.

Sephiroth (gesturing widely)
ならば闇へと誘おう
If that's so, I shall draw you into the darkness.

永遠に光を奪い、
覚めることのない悪夢の中へ
Into the nightmare that forever deprives you of light,
from which you can never awaken.

Cloud raises his sword.  Sephiroth slowly reaches for his.  The two flicker with
electrical energy, Cloud red, Sephiroth blue, and the pent up force draws small
pebbles upwards off the ground.

Suddenly they charge, and their swords clash violently as One Winged Angel
begins to play in the background.  Again and again they trade blows, with no
sign of weakness on either side.

They separate and again Cloud charges, this time pushing Sephiroth back.  But
Sephiroth vanishes, leaving only feathers, reappearing above in the air.
Sephiroth holds out his hand to Cloud, and Cloud immediately charges.  As their
swords again clash, everything fades to white.

Unknown ---------------------------------------------------------------- 謎の男
===============================================================================
After the conversation with Donald and Goofy upon entering the End of the World,
a mysterious portal appears in Hollow Bastion's Chapel (Room of the Dragon), in
the same place as the portal to fight Maleficent Dragon was.  The five
princesses gathered here all comment on the portal's appearance.

Cinderella / シンデレラ
あのゲートの出現は何か

I wonder, could that gate's appearance be a sign of something bad?

What on earth is that?!  A different feeling from darkness...  Sora, take care!

Sora, Donald, Goofy and Beast go through the portal, which disappears after them,
to find themselves in a large circular room like the one they fought Maleficent
Dragon in.  Behind them a shrouded form which seems to be fading in and out of
existence appears, following them.

Sora turns in time to see it almost upon him, gasping and falling back as it
reaches him.  But it continues, walking straight through him.  As it does so
Sora has a rapid flash of memories...

Sora stumbles back and falls to the ground as the figure continues past him.  He
turns to look at the now apparently solid figure, a man completely shrouded by a
dark grey hooded coat with a long zip, and two drawstrings hanging from the
collar.

The man stops.  Sora gets up.

Sora
誰だ−−−?
Who are you?

The man does not talk, the words simply appear in Sora's mind.

     ほう 君も特別なようだ
Ah...  It seems you are special too

The words cause him to momentarily see only darkness...

Goofy
アンセムゥ−−−?
Ansem...?

The man turns to look over his shoulder.

     なつかしい響きだ−−−
     That's a familiar sound...

Once again the momentary darkness...

The strange man's black gloved hand opens and a strange, blue light filled with
a lattice of hexagonal shapes begins to fizzle in it.

     君は彼に似ている
     You look like him.

The darkness seems fractionally longer this time...

Sora (getting slightly angry)
どういう意味だ!?
What's that supposed to mean?!

Sora gasps as the man begins to turn and he sees the energy.  As the man turns
he brings the Keyblade to his hand and with both hands he holds back the
tremendous blue lightning-like energy that the strange figure aims directly at
him.

For a few seconds Sora strains against the energy, then he pushes it away.  The
reflected energy hits the ceiling, causing a shower of mortar and fine stone.

The shrouded man stands facing Sora.  He seems to be staring, thinking, but we
can only see black within his low hood.

     完全ではない ということだよ
Which means, you are not complete.

Again the darkness...

Sora stands straight, with his Keyblade at the ready.

     不完全なものよ
     Incomplete one...

And again...

     その能力を−−−
     That power...

Darkness...

In the background, music begins to play, a quiet but fast tune.

     確かめさせてもらいたい
Allow me to test your power.

One last time Sora's world goes dark as the man "speaks".

Sora readies himself for battle.

A ferocious battle ensues.  The shrouded man uses blue surges of energy, walls
of energy, a red sabre of light, and once again his hexagonal lattice-styled
energy bolts, attacking in a dazzlingly fast array of magic and sword blows.
Sora and company do their best to hold off his attacks while getting in their
own.

Soon Sora learns how to dodge the unknown man's attacks, but the man pulls out a
second red sword and becomes a whirlwind of blows.  He uses more energy attacks,
creating red laser-shooting balls of energy and assaulting Sora with blue energy
bolts.

Finally the man seems finished as Sora lands a heavy blow, causing the figure to
be enveloped in a sphere of his lattice-etched blue energy.  Stumbling backwards
he clutches his chest...  But he pushes the energy away with his hand!  It
dissipates in a wave of blue and black energy.

     −−−実におもしろい
     ...Truly fascinating.

Again darkness follows his words.

Sora gasps.

     今後が楽しみだ
This is going to be enjoyable.

Once more the darkness envelops Sora's mind.

As the light comes back Sora begins to run towards the man.

Sora
何を言ってるんだ!
What're you talking about?

He charges and leaps, Keyblade held high.  But at the zenith of his leap, the
world turns black and white for a split second, there is a buzzing sound and the
man half-fades once more.

Sora lands behind the unknown man, having jumped straight through him.  Behind
him, the man seems solid once more.  Sora turns to him, annoyed.

     今のおまえでは理解できまい
In your present state you probably cannot understand.

The world turns black...

The man half turns, looking down at Sora.

     またいずれ 会える時が来るだろう
In any case, the time when we can meet again will doubtless come.

Blackness...

Sora
誰なんだおまえは!!
Wait, who are you---!

Sora gasps as the man disappears before his eyes.

     私は−−−
     I am...

Again the darkness...

The man fades in again briefly, and then is gone.  His invisible form ripples as
he moves, subtly revealing his movement, walking away from Sora.  But Sora
continues to stare at the space where he vanished.

     ただの抜け殻さ
     A mere shell.

The darkness comes one last time.  When it lifts, there is no sign of the
unknown man ever being there.

===============================================================================
10. The Ending --------------------------------------------------- エンディング
===============================================================================
The original Kingdom Hearts had a standard end sequence consisting of in-game
scenes, an FMV end sequence and end credits set to the Utada Hikaru song 光, and
an epilogue in-game scene, ending on a screen showing the "Foreboding" artwork
and the words "The End."

It also had a "Special Secret," a bonus movie which was displayed if you
fulfilled certain criteria.  This movie was called Special Secret: Another Side,
Another Story.

Kingdom Hearts Final Mix contains all of these things, and makes a few additions
and changes of its own.  This section deals with those things.

Memories of Riku ----------------------------------- リクとの楽しい日々の思い出
===============================================================================
Before the end sequence movie starts, there is an extra scene showing Sora's
memories of growing up and playing with Riku.  It is a short series of sepia-
coloured images.

Conditions for the Secret Movies to play ------------------- ムービー再生の条件
===============================================================================
The conditions depend on what difficulty level you are playing the game on.
Neither movie can be seen on Beginner mode.

Final Mix -------------------------------------------------- ファイナルミックス
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original Secret Movie
- Finish the story on all worlds
- Rescue all of the 101 Dalmatians
Final Mix Secret Movie
- Fulfil the conditions for the Original Secret Movie
- Complete the Jiminy Memo section so that a yellow Mickey icon appears

Finishing the story on all the worlds presumably entails following the story to
the end on each world, i.e. locking all the keyholes and finishing the Jiminy
Memo Story So Far section, so that you get the yellow Mickey icon for it.

Completing the Jiminy Memo section means completing and getting a Mickey mark
next to all the sections, at which point one will appear next to the Jiminy Memo
button on the main menu.  See the Jiminy Memo section of this FAQ for details.

Final Mix: Proud --------------------------------- ファイナルミックス:プラウド
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original Secret Movie
- Just finish the game; no special conditions
Final Mix Secret Movie
- Finish the story on all worlds
- Win the normal round of the Hades Cup

As you can see, it is infinitely easier to get Deep Dive to display on Proud
level.

Special Secret Movie - Another Side, Another Story: "deep dive" ---------------
===============================================================================
(If you fulfil the conditions for this movie to appear, it will show in place of
the first secret movie, after the epilogue scene with Sora, Donald and Goofy
running after Pluto.  Following is a description.  The indented words are words
which flash up on the screen during the movie.)

        Special Secret Movie

     Another Side, Another Story

           【deep dive】

Night.  Sora stands alone at a crossroads, looking up at the dark, starry sky.
The screen fades to black, with a dark mist in the background.

     無音の空気
     Utter silence

The camera zooms out from a tight shot of a message in a bottle on a dark beach.

     断片の物語
     A fragmented tale
     君のいない世界
     A world without you
     目を閉じる
     The eyes will close

The bottle lies on an alien-looking rocky beach.  A bright moon (or a very
darkened sun) illuminates the scene with a pale light.

A large rock on the beach.  A small Heartless symbol briefly flickers just
before a man shrouded in a long grey hooded overcoat appears out of the rock.
He stops a moment, and we catch a glimpse of a yellow shining eye as the wind
moves his hood.  He walks on, but the screen fuzzes in a TV-interference like
fashion, ending up back at our smoky black screen.

     −当たり前なこと−
     Something so natural

The screen fuzzes up again, this time cutting to a similarly-clothed man walking
through a dark city in the rain.  This man has a higher-set hood, but fair hair
covers his eyes from view.

Raindrops fall onto the wet ground.  Fade to black followed by a split second
slash of a weapon and TV fuzz, and we return to the man, looking back over his
shoulder.  Behind him is a large group of Neo Shadows.  In fact, they are all
around him, hundreds of them.  The man carries two Keyblades: Promise Charm in
his left, and Memories Past in his right hand.

Quick fade to black and back in to find the man fighting the Neo Shadows.  As
they start to come at him he slices through them one by one.

     その先の記憶
     The memory beyond

The fight continues as the Neo Shadows come at him in strength, jumping through
the air at him.  He skilfully cuts them down, jumping into the air and executing
attack after attack, including using Promise Charm like a boomerang.

Landing, he jumps onto the steps of a neon-lit building, looking out over the
Neo Shadows who it seems all turn and follow his every move.  They are
everywhere, even crawling on the statues beside the building.

Fuzzy fade back to the man and the camera rapidly zooms out, showing the
hundreds of Heartless looking to and fro in the direction of the man.

The man looks up the side of the tall building.  There is a large screen near
the top.

Fuzzy fade to a misty black screen.

     −単純な答え−
     Something so simple

Fuzzy fade this time to the top of the building.  Above the screen stands
another coated man.  This one has no hood, and wears a black blindfold over his
eyes.  His hair is white and straight, similar to Riku's.  As his hair blows in
the wind, he has the hint of a smile on his lips.

Fuzzy fade down to the man on the ground, who is still looking up.  He jumps
nimbly up to the wall and begins to run straight up it, followed by Neo Shadows.
The screen fuzzes again and we see the man from a distance, running up the
vertical wall of the building.  He kills the Heartless ahead of him as he runs,
and the pursuers are joined by ever more as more Neo Shadows emerge from the
very wall.

Again the screen fuzzes and we are back at the top of the building.  The
blindfolded man has moved to the edge and looks down.

Black screen.  A large number "XIII" flashes up.

     「ソラは何処だ?」
     "Where's Sora?"

     「彼を見つけなければ…」
     "We must find him."

Back to the city and the man running up the building, then the man at the top.
The man running up the wall throws the Keyblade from his right hand, Memories
Past, upwards, slashing through Heartless as it goes.  At the same time the
blindfolded man dives from the top of the building.

Another misty black screen, this time with the number "12".  A line points down
from the words here.  (The phrases are side by side, it's not clear if they are
separate or connected, though it seems likely.  法則 means "theorem.")

             法則
     【裏アンセムレポート】「無知から生まれし創造」
[Ansem's other report] "A creation born of ignorance."

The blindfolded man catches the Keyblade just as he begins to fall.  Neo Shadows
jump off the roof of the building after him.

Another black screen, the number "11".  The previous phrases move up as we
follow the line down to this screen's words.  Lines lead off to the left, to the
right, and downwards.  (The signs used here are "not equals to" mathematical
signs.)

     闇の裏側≠光の扉
Behind the darkness ≠ Door to the light

As they reach the screen, the two men pass each other.  The first man again has
two Keyblades - he has replaced the thrown Memories Lost with the Kingdom Key.

On top of this "X" flashes up as we follow the right-hand line from 11's words.

     秘密の場所
     「ずっと聞こえていた彼の声が消えたの」
     「今度は…私が戦う」
     The secret place
     "His voice... It's left me."
     "This time... I'll fight."

They exchange glances in the split second that they pass each other.  The
blindfolded man continues to fall.

A "9" flashes up as we follow the downwards arrow from 11.  A line continues
down from these words.

     狭間の世界=忘れられし場所
     集いし者達
     A world between = A forgotten world
     The gathering

We see brief flashes of a rain of meteors falling in the sky over the city; the
blindfolded man on top of the building, arms outstretched looking up at the sky;
the dual Keyblade-wielding man on the ground with a Heartless symbol etched in
fire around him before the fight; his face.  (These are all clips from the first
Secret Movie.)

The blindfolded man continues to fall.

A black smoky screen and we continue downwards from 9 as "VIII" flashes up.
This time there are two parallel lines leading downwards.  (The English words
here are cut off.  Presumably they would end "nonexistent ones.")

     第3の敵=NOBODY「ノーバディ…?存在しないもの」
The third enemy = Nobody "Who is Nobody, you ask? They are the nonexiste

Fuzzy fade.  Flashes of the dual Keyblade man continuing upwards; the man
wielding Memories Past and Promise Charm, with blue energy crackling around
them; black and white close-up on Sora's face (from the opening); strange red
energy; Sora again.

Fuzzy fade to black misty screen.  We follow the right hand arrow from VIII down
and to the right, and "VII" appears.  A line leads to the right.

     ENDLESS
     「カイリ遅かったな」
     「やれるか?この数」
     ENDLESS
"What took you so long, Kairi?"
"Can we do it? Against that?"

Fuzzy fade to a close-up of Memories Past with the two men passing each other at
the screen; black and white of Sora falling through the sky with meteors falling
in the background; black and white of Riku, his hand held out; black and white
profile of Kairi; dual-Keyblade man again; fuzzy fade.

Back to the beach.  The man who came from the rock approaches another person,
sitting on a rock on the beach.

Fuzzy fade to black and white Sora; strange red energy; black and white
blindfolded man falling.  Overlaying this is the following text (with no number).
A line leads to the left, so presumably this is right of VII.

     HEARTLESS
     「お迎えに参りました、我らが主人よ」
     「あなたこそが全てのハートレスの起源なのです」
     HEARTLESS
"We have come for you, my liege."
"You are the source of all Heartless."

Fuzzy fade to the man running up the building very briefly, then black and white
Sora.  Over this we follow the left hand line down from 8 and "6" appears.  A
line comes down to the first phrase, then continues from the right of it linking
to the next phrases.

     【XIII機関】
      [The Thirteenth Order]

     Metamorphosis
     変身:変貌
          「ソラ?」
          「なぜなんだソラ」
          「王様!なぜなんです?」
          "Sora?"
          "Sora... Why?"
          "Your Highness! But why?"

Various black and white flashes of Sora and a colour shot of Kairi reaching
towards us; the raindrops hitting the ground; black and white of the man on the
steps of the building; an older Kairi standing on the beach; the two men passing
at the screen.  As these go by the words have been superimposed.  A line leads
the right of them, and before they disappear "5" flashes up.  A line connects
these two phrases.

     変化
     Change

     第3の鍵
     The third key

We follow the blindfolded man falling, killing Heartless as he falls through
them, and "4" flashes up.

     この世の果て
     「何なんだ!ここは!?」
     「これが求めていた答えなのか?」
     「これが真実の世界」
     「俺たちのやってきたことは無意味だったのかもしれない」
     End of the world
     "What is this place?"
"Is this the answer you've been looking for?"
"This is the world in its true form."
"Maybe our journey meant nothing after all."

Flash of the Heartless symbol etched in fire on the ground and Kairi, over which
"3" is displayed.  A line continues to the right.

     楽園
     Paradise

Fuzzy fade to very brief Heartless symbol again and then a composite picture of
the four shrouded people, from left to right the one with a glowing eye, the
blindfolded one, the one with two Keyblades and the one sitting on the rock on
the beach.  Over this we see the end of the line pointing to these words.

     一緒に行こう
     "We'll go together."

Fuzzy fade.  On a black screen "II" appears very briefly, then cut to a small
shrouded form spinning through the air.  A spire is in the background and
lightning strikes.  The figure lands and we see it is Mickey, dressed in the
same style of hooded coat.  He holds his Keyblade in his right hand.

Screen goes black with "KINGDOM HEARTS" displayed.  Fade out.  Then a subtitle
appears (in Japanese only so the translation is mine)...

     "I've been to see him."
     「彼に会って来た」

The shot with the two people on the beach from the beginning.  This time it
continues.  The man who came out of the rock stops next to the seated person,
who turns to look at him.  The seated person's lips move.  The screen goes black
and smoky again and we see what they said.

     "He looks just like you."
     「彼は君によく似ている」

Cut to the ocean.  A prostrate Sora flies through the air, seemingly unconscious.

Screen fades to the black misty screen one last time.

"Everything is coming back to me, the true..."
     「思い出し始めたんだ、本当の…」

Fade out.

Battle Report and Final Artwork ---------- バトルレポートと最後のアートウォーク
===============================================================================
If you complete the game on normal or Beginner mode, you will see only the "Rest
(Day)" Tetsuya Nomura picture with the word "FIN" at the end of the end sequence.
However, if you complete the game on Proud mode, you will see a Battle Report,
along with a picture determined by how much you did in the game.

Battle Report -------------------------------------------------- バトルレポート
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Battle Report gives you stats on your play through the game.  It provides
the following statistics in order from top to bottom:

Heartless Killed
Continues Used
Attacks Deflected
Damage Taken
Items Used
Times Friends were Knocked Out
Times you cast Heal on your Friends

Heartless Killed maxes out at 9999, so most players will end up just seeing 9999.

A deflected attack is whenever you see the word "Tech" and a number appear on
the screen.

Damage Taken is probably the number of times you've been hit by an enemy rather
than the actual HP value, because the HP value would be huge.

The number of times your friends were knocked out refers to party members other
than Sora, whether it be Donald, Goofy, Tarzan, etc.

Finally the number of times you cast Heal on your friends is just that; if
you're anything like me, the number will be low, and most of those times will be
healing a White Mushroom.

Final Artwork -------------------------------------------- 最後のアートウォーク
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Proud mode, the Nomura artwork displayed at the end of the end sequence
varies depending on just how much you did before you killed the final boss.

"Friends"
- Just get through the game, with no special conditions fulfilled

"Foreboding"
- Finish the story on all worlds
- Win the normal round of the Hades Cup

"Rest (Night)"
- Complete the Jiminy Memo section so that a yellow Mickey icon appears

Appendices --------------------------------------------------------------- 付録
===============================================================================

Appendix A: Tetsuya Nomura Artwork ----------------------- 野村哲也氏のイラスト
===============================================================================
The artwork drawn for Kingdom Hearts by Tetsuya Nomura all has official names.
I have used these names throughout this FAQ, so if you're wondering which
picture I am referring to please read this section.  (Names and details taken
from Ultimania guides and the official web site.)

Most of the basic character art is usually referred to just as that character's
name.  Here we are dealing more with the full pictures and group pictures rather
than just the character art.

Kingdom Hearts Artwork --------------------------------------------------------
===============================================================================
The following art was all drawn for the original release of Kingdom Hearts.

Beach (Sora) / 波打ち際(ソラ)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the famous picture of Sora on the beach, holding a stick, with a
fishbone in his mouth.  Nomura confirms in the Ultimania guide that it is indeed
a fishbone.

Used on the title screen in the original version of Kingdom Hearts.

Blue Sky (Riku) / 青空(リク)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Riku looking back over his shoulder, holding a piece of fruit.  Nomura says that
this picture is an illustration from the scene in the game where Riku turns and
asks Sora "You wanted this, didn't you?" and teases him about Kairi.  Except
that that scene turned out to be a sunset and this is on a blue sky...

Sunset (Kairi) / 夕焼け(カイリ)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Drawn at the same time and in the same style as the last two pictures, this is a
picture of a thoughtful looking Kairi at sunset.  Nomura mentions that there was
no scene like this in the final game.

Donald & Goofy (Kingdom Hearts Version) / ドナルド&グーフィー(KHバージョン)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The basic picture of Sora holding the Keyblade in front of him, flanked by
Donald and Goofy in their Nomura-designed Kingdom Hearts costumes.  He remarks
that he used their standard costume colours as a base, and then added his
trademark zips.

Friends (Release Day Visual) / 仲間(発売直前用ビジュアル)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A funny drawing of the main five characters, with Donald and Goofy pulling
Sora's face into a smile.  This picture was drawn to be featured on all of the
presents, posters and such that came with the game's release.

Donald & Goofy (Standard Costume) / ドナルド&グーフィー(スタンダードコスチュー
ム)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A comparatively rare Nomura picture of Goofy looking surprised and Donald
smiling, in their standard Disney outfits (in which they only appear during the
epilogue scene).

A Ride on the Shoulders (Collaboration Visual) / 肩車(コラボレーションビジュア
ル)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first drawing made and released for Kingdom Hearts, this shows Goofy with
Sora on his shoulders, with Donald standing on top of Sora.  Goofy and Donald
are pointing left and right while Sora looks ahead.  Since it was drawn so early
on, Goofy and Donald are in their standard costumes.  Nomura commented that he
likes this drawing because it shows the relationship between the three
characters.

Foreboding (Kingdom Hearts Key Visual) / 予感(キングダムハーツ・キービジュアル)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Foreboding (other translations include Premonition or Prescience) is the name of
perhaps the most famous Kingdom Hearts artwork (hence the Key Visual moniker),
the piece with the main cast in front of a heart-shaped moon.  Nomura writes
that this was a hard piece to create, as it had to covey both the Square and
Disney worlds in a serious tone.  Donald and Goofy were particularly hard to do.

Used as the cover for the original version of the game, the picture at the end
of the end sequence, and in many other places besides.

Throne (Soundtrack Jacket) / 玉座(サウンドトラックジャケット)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sora sitting in a throne holding the Keyblade, looking somewhat irritated.
Flanked by an equally angry-looking Donald and Goofy, also wielding their
default weapons.  This picture was drawn for the cover of the soundtrack.
Apparently he had trouble drawing it cause he had only a short time to do it.

Connections (Ultimania Cover Art) / 繋がり(アルティマニア表紙用書き下ろし)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Drawn for the cover of the first Ultimania guide, this picture features the five
main characters shown through a cross motif, with Sora in the foreground in
black and white.  Sora looks somewhat different, and Nomura remarks that in this
picture he is a big more grown up.  He says he wants everyone to think about
what this might mean.  Like the soundtrack cover, this picture was also drawn to
a tight deadline.

Kingdom Hearts Final Mix Artwork ----------------------------------------------
===============================================================================
Tetsuya Nomura drew four new pieces for the release of Final Mix.

Rest (Day) / 休息(昼)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The cast sits around a broken stone (possibly a pillar?) with "Deep Dive" and
"Kingdom Hearts" scribbled on it.

Used as the cover for Final Mix, and for the main Final Mix poster.

Rest (Night) / 休息(夜)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly the same picture as Rest (Day), but the colours have changed to dark
blues to signify that it is night.

Wind / 風
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sora stands, eyes closed, hood up, one hand in his pocket, holding a big blue
pennant.

Used on the title screen in Final Mix.

Ultimania Revised Edition Cover
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Somewhat bizarrely, this, presumably the last image drawn and released for
Kingdom Hearts, does not have an official name written anywhere...  In any case
the cover features a foil heart motif encompassing Kairi, Riku, Donald and Goofy
in brownish tones.  Sora sits on the bottom of the heart in normal colours
looking very dejected.  Outside the heart shape is a stormy sky background, and
Unknown looks on from the left, with Ansem in exactly the same position on the
right.

Appendix B: Ultimania Contents Description ------------------------------------
===============================================================================
Following is a description of the Ultimania strategy guides for Kingdom Hearts.

p. 1 - 12 Introduction, Main Character introductions and Contents
Includes nice CG art of characters

p. 13 - 110 How to Play
Very detailed descriptions, again illustrated with nice CG art and screenshots,
sections are as follows: Action, Status, Party, Magic, Abilities, Items,
Equipment, Shop, Synthesis, Advice, How to Make Sora Super Powerful, Character
Team Interview.  These sections are comprehensive, telling you everything you
could possibly want to know.  Highlights include the Synthesis list, which tells
you where to get every synthesis item, what chance you have of getting it there,
etc., and the CG art of all the weapons.

p. 111 - 314 Walkthrough
Great 3D maps of every location in the game, with every chest and point of
interest marked on.  Also includes introduction pages to each world and its
characters, complete with CG character art and screenshots, plus very nice
final-stage design artwork for the world (it's hard to see that some of them are
art rather than screenshots because they're so similar to the in-game graphics!).
Basically this is the best and most comprehensive walkthrough anywhere, bar none.

p. 315 - 390 Enemies
Ah, my (second?) favourite section...  Full stats, probably including ones you
don't even know exist, for every monster.  Best of all, every regular monster is
illustrated with its final design artwork, and the bosses and one off enemies
all have CG.

p. 391 - 472 Subgames
Complete with course maps, stats, strategy, and everything else you'll need.
Sections are: Beach Battles, Beach Race, a section for each Pooh minigame,
Postcards, 101 Dalmatians, Trinities, Gummi Ship and a section about doing the
best possible (read insane feats) in the minigames.

p. 473 - 543 Ultimania
The best chapter of all.  It includes Secrets, which is random cool stuff from
hidden weapons to Ansem Reports, from lyrics to victory poses, etc.  Next comes
a flow chart of the game, followed by a 16 page art gallery including weapon
designs, character designs, storyboards, location designs, etc.  Then there's an
interview with the voice actors, and then a 13 page Tetsuya Nomura art gallery,
showing his character designs and artwork.  And finally there's an interview
with the man himself, the index, the sheet music for Hikari, and the end plate
of the book.

p. 544 - 608 Final Mix Ultimania
The chapter is arranged around the principle of "The 50 Changes Made in Final
Mix".  Obviously some "changes" are bigger than others, some taking pages and
pages (monsters) while others take only a paragraph.  Basically it includes full
stats for all the changes, plus the stuff you'd need to add the Final Mix stuff
to the rest of the book - weapon, character and monster CG art, design art and
stats, etc.  It goes into excruciating detail, giving stats on every single
change in the game, from changed chest contents to added weapons and accessories
to tweaks made to the stats of monsters and illustrations for all the monsters
who've had their colours changed.
