Karaoke Revolution returns again with Volume 3 - now with duets!  Now you can
sing cooperatively with your best friend or against your rival at the same
time instead of one person waiting on the sidelines while the other struts
his or her stuff.

(More to come in this section later.)

This FAQ will explore all the modes of the game and include the song lyrics,
as well as information regarding the scores you can achieve in the game.
There will also be a list of the extras you can unlock, such as videos, new
songs and extra characters.

|A. Quick Play|
===============
In Karaoke Revolution 3, Quick Play replaces the "Arcade" option that appeared
in the previous two games.  Rather than having a set number of songs to sing
through, you can pick songs at your leisure, as many as you want and in any
order.  The only limit to the songs you can choose is if it hasn't been
unlocked, but other than that, you can pick whatever you want to sing.  You
still get scored, but there is no ongoing record of your results, you only
see the results for the song you just completed.

|B. Showtime|
=============

In Showtime mode, you must successfully complete at least one song in a venue
to continue. You win when you complete at least one song in each of the 8
venues. If you complete the songs with Gold or Platinum records you unlock
outfits for the characters, or unlock new characters. When you complete every
song with Gold or Platinum, you will unlock additional songs and videos.
Complete information on what you can unlock will be included in a later update.

Showtime mode includes a Sound Check option where you can practice the song
before you perform it for a rating. This is useful when you don't know a song
and want to hear it before you sing it for real.

|C. Medley|
===========

Medley mode allows you to choose from 3-5 songs and sing a compilation with a
part of each song.  Scoring is similar to Showtime and Quick Play modes, but
since different parts of each song play in different medleys, it's difficult
if not impossible to make an accurate guide for all the different possible
medleys in the game.  I will put up a table with the maximum scores you can
achieve with a certain length medley in an upcoming update.

|D. Karaoke|
============

Karaoke mode is another way you can practice songs or sing without worrying
about what score or rating you get. This mode is also great if more than one
person wants to sing along to the song because you don't need to wear the mic
or worry about it picking up other voices, throwing off the reading the mic
registers.  In Karaoke mode, you can choose to play in one of the 8 venues, or
you can choose "Full Screen Lyrics" mode, which will display the lyrics on the
entire screen with the Enormobowl as a background. Each phrase will appear
in succession as you must sing it, and the letters change from white to green
as they pass. The phrases appear exactly as they do in the other game modes.

|E. Training|
=============

Training mode is a walkthrough of how to play the game.  This section will be
a script of what the "instructor" says during the mode.
Note that this training is the same as in the other two games, except "Beat It"
is played for the training.

Hi. Welcome to Karaoke Revolution Training Mode.  This is where you'll learn
everything you'll need to know to play the game. Before we begin, make sure you
plug in the headset and put it on your head, with the microphone placed 1-2 cm
from your mouth. Ready? Let's check out the game. The object of Karaoke
Revolution is to sing the song exactly the way it was originally recorded. Let
me show you around a bit.

These blue bars are called Note Tubes. Note Tubes show the pitch and length of
each note you need to sing. The corresponding lyrics are displayed at the
bottom of the screen.
This is the Now Bar. When the notes and lyrics hit this bar, it's time for you
to sing.
The Pitch Arrow will show you the current pitch you're singing. You'll know
you're in tune when the pitch arrow lines up with the Note Tubes and the sparks
start flying. If the song is too high or low for you, you can sing one octave
lower or higher without losing points.

Let's try some singing. I'll play part of a song, and then I'll ask you to sing
it. Listen closely! You'll get a few chances to try what you've just learned.
Sing the lyrics as they reach the Now Bar. Ready? Go!

Excellent, now let's move on!

Now I'll teach you about phrases. A phrase is one line of lyrics within the
song, like a musical sentence. This vertical line shows you where one phrase
ends and another begins.
This is called the Phrase Meter. The Phrase Meter will fill up as you sing the
notes correctly. At the end of every phrase, your performance will be rated.
Fill the Phrase Meter completely to get a Great! rating.
This is your current Score for the song. You'll get points at the end of each
phrase depending on how well you did.
The Crowd Meter displays how the crowd is reacting to your performance.
Careful! If the Crowd Meter drops down too low, you may get booed off the
stage. If you get the crowd excited enough, you'll get a score multiplier. If
you score Good or Great! on three [or more] phrases in a row, you'll start a
Combo. Continue getting Good and Great! ratings to keep the Combo going.
Keep an eye out for special Crowd Boost! phrases. If you sing this phrase well,
the crowd will go wild and the Crowd Meter will get a boost.
At the end of the song, you'll get a final score tally based on your
performance. If your score is high enough, you'll be awarded a Gold or Platinum
record. During the song, you can change the volume levels by holding the
Triangle, Circle, X or Square buttons and pressing the Directional Buttons.

Okay, are you ready for your final test? Sing this song and see if you can fill
up the Phrase Meter. You will be judged on your performance. Here we go!

An asterisk (*) next to the song name means it must be unlocked before you can
sing it.  These songs are available only in Arcade Mode.

"Difficulty" is reflected by the number of microphones shown with the song
length and your High Score for the song in the song selection screen
"Max Combo" is the highest combo you can achieve by getting all Good or Great
ratings for each phrase of the song
"Short Max" is the highest combo you can achieve in the short version

Because of a change in scoring, all songs now have a maximum score of 50000,
with the exception of ABC. Its top scores vary depending on mode due to a
glitch in the scoring count.  I will post them in the ABC section.

Please note that spacing, line breaks, and any punctuation in the song
is inserted by me as necessary to break up the song.  Spacing and
line breaks are mainly so the lyrics fit in the specified boundaries
and to split them up so there aren't huge run-on lines.
Lyrics in () are spoken and don't have note tubes to accompany them.
The part of the song in square brackets [] and indented is the part
of the song used for the short version of the song. (NOTE: If a song does not
have a bracketed section and the Max Combo and Short Max are the same, the
short version is the same as the full song.

| C. Strategies                                                               |
===============================================================================

This section is meant to give you strategies to keep in mind while singing the
songs to help you aim for a high score.  The first and most general strategy
is to PRACTICE!  Nothing can beat practice, so keep singing a song until you
master it to your satisfaction.  Here are some other general strategies:

Sing in your register - If a song is too high for you, sing it an octave lower
 and if it's too low then sing higher.  The game automatically corrects for
 the octave and you won't be penalized.  All you have to match is the pitch.
Learn the song - Listen to a song a few times to get it in your head.  Once
 you can sing it to yourself, try it out on the game.
Sing at your level - If you're a new singer, or if you aren't very confident
 in your talents, start on Easy mode.  After you begin getting very high or
 even perfect scores in Easy, move to Medium, and so on.  Practicing on the
 lower levels can help you master the songs just like listening.
Get help - If you're still having trouble, find a friend or family member
 that's also a good singer.  Have him/her sing with you or teach you any
 tricks they know.  Singing with someone else is a great way to unleash your
 inner voice.
Learn the rhythms and repeats - If a song has a certain rhythm throughout,
 follow it and use it to your advantage while singing.  Similarly, if a song
 has a certain phrase repeated a number of times, such as the chorus, learn
 that part.  Once you have that one section mastered, you may have learned
 half the song or more!  Then just fill in the rest of the song and you're
 on your way!
Don't sing the words - If a particular song or section is giving you a lot
 of trouble, try humming the notes or singing on "Ooh" until you get it
 down, then add in the words later.

For the rest of the strategies I'm going to split them up into three sections,
one for each difficulty of song, and then I'm going to split them up further,
sometimes to the different songs.

===================
Easy Songs (1 note)
===================

First tip: PRACTICE!

The easy songs generally have a long repeated chorus or have a similar note
pattern throughout.  Many of them also have long held out notes that make them
easier since you don't need to move the pitch around as much.  If you're new
to the game, it would be best to start out with these songs, regardless of
what difficulty you wish to play.  They offer the least resistance and can
be memorized much more quickly and easily than the other songs.

Beat It - The main thing to learn in this song is the section that runs from
------- "Just beat it... it doesn't matter who's wrong or right" because it
       is repeated a number of times throughout the song.  The two verse
       sections are very similar, so once you learn one you'll have a good
       handle on the others with a few slight modifications.
----------------------------
Flashdance... What a Feeling - The first section of the song, the first four
---------- bars, have basically the same pattern as the other verse parts of
          the song.  The other repeated section is the "What a feeling"
          chorus section.  Towards the end, the pitches are radically
          different... you just have to learn the end section separately.

Hold On - Again, the verse section is pretty much repeated, and the chorus
------- section is extremely easy.  On the lower levels, don't worry about
       the small slides, you'll easily be able to fill the bar with the
       long held out sections.

I Got You Babe - The verse sections are fairly easy and the tune is repeated
---------  3 times in the course of the song.  The refrain part takes the
          higher harmony, so don't get stuck singing the low part.  The two
          things to watch out for are the bridge part after the second
          refrain and the key change right after the bridge.
-----------------
Killing Me Softly - The song starts out with the refrain section which is
-------  followed by a rap section with just background vocals, you don't need
        to sing anything.  The verse section happens twice, though the second
        time is slightly different, and when the refrain repeats it is a bit
        more ornamental.  The part to watch out for is the part without words
        starting with "Woh" as it can get a bit jumpy.  Towards the end of
        that section, it settles into a tune closer to the end of the refrain
        and finishes out with a long fluctuating note.

Meant to Live - The second half of the second verse is different than the
--------   first verse so watch out.  The refrain is repeated and pretty close
          each time.  Be careful on the bridge, it's different than the rest
          of the song.
-----------
My Immortal - The second verse section is very close to the first, although
-----------   it's a bit different rhythmically.  The refrain is the same each
             time it's repeated, and the bridge after the second refrain is
             rather easy, just watch for it.
------------------
New York, New York - This classic is rather easy, the initial tune is repeated
---------  a number of times, with some variations, more happening toward the
          end.  Also note the key change in the middle and the slowdown in
          the middle and as the end of the song approaches.  Also note that
          "These little town blues are melting away" near the end is very
          close to the first time, just an octave up and a bit higher pitch
          due to the key change.
-------
Someday - The verse section is nearly identical each time, as is the refrain,
-------   with a little variation.  Nothing too difficult, learn the first
         section and you're pretty much set.
-------------------
Take My Breath Away - The verse is again repeated, there isn't a very long
-------  refrain, it's more like part of the verse.  Also note there is a key
        change after the bridge section and the last "Take my breatha away"
        is radically different than the rest.
----------
The Reason - Again, the verse is pretty similar each time, as is the refrain.
----------   The second refrain has a few added, different "And the reason
            is you" phrases, and the third verse is a bit different.
---------------
Twist and Shout - The first tune pretty much repeats throughout the whole
---------  song, so it's not too hard to figure it out.  Yes, there are some
          slight variations, but nothing to worry about.
---------------
Waiting For You - The first and second verses are very similar, so that's not
-----------  hard.  The refrain section repeats and is very close every time
            but the last.  Watch the slides, and watch the change for the
            last refrain section.

Intermediate Songs (2 notes)
============================

First tip: PRACTICE!

The 2 note songs are generally not quite as straightforward as the easy songs,
but the majority are still pretty simple.  Many have verse and refrain
sections like the easy ones, but there are generally more variations on the
tunes or some verses might be much different.  Specific examples are cited
in each section for the songs below.

California Dreamin' - The song is split up into 3 verses and refrain sections
----------   and is not extremely hard.  The second verse is different than
            the first and third, and the last refrain has a couple extra
            lines at the end, but nothing too taxing.
----------------
Careless Whisper - The second verse and refrain are a bit different and the
--------  third "verse" section really throws a wrench at you.  Also, watch
         at the end after the last refrain section, it get's a little messy
         there.  This song also likes to throw little random bits at you,
         so watch for them too.
----------
Come Clean - The first and second verse/refrain sections are pretty similar,
----------   it's after that when you have to watch out.  The only parts that
            are really similar to any other part are the last refrain (but
            that does have some variation) and the very end, which is pretty
            much a repeat of the first line of the song.
---------------------------
Don't You (Forget About Me) - Though this song does have a repeating verse
---------   and refrain section, which occurs twice with variations, there
           are lots of small variations on the verse notes which makes it
           difficult to pinpoint any specific tune.  Also, about half the
           song doesn't follow the verse/refrain tunes anyway, so it's easier
           to just steer clear of that method of singing.
----------------
Joy to the World - Most of the song is the "Joy to the World" section, so it
----------   isn't extremely taxing.  The verses are pretty similar.  The
            song does have a key change in it - for 4 lines in the middle -
            but it changes right back after that, so watch for it.
----------
Love Shack - The song has a lot of repetition, but it likes to introduce new
----------   tunes and repeat them a few times in a row rather than repeating
            one tune throughout.  The "Love shack, baby love shack" line does
            repeat quite a few times, so that's one to remember throughout.
-----------
Snake Eater - The song follows the typical verse/refrain pattern.  Though the
-----------   second verse is not very close to the first, the refrains do
             follow the same basic tune.  Watch the slides.
---------
Thank You - Verse/refrain pattern as usual, with the second verse following
---------   a similar pattern to the first, but the tune being different.
           The refrain doesn't change much, if at all, when it is repeated.
----------------
Unchained Melody - The tune is rather easy, and the first part is repeated
---------  pretty closely after the bridge with slight variations.  The
          hardest thing about this song is that there are lots of notes
          that you have to hold out for a long time and a lot that have a
          bunch of quick changes, sometimes trills.  Keep an eye out.
-------------
When I'm Gone - This song has a lot of slight changes in notes, half steps,
--------  and two long held notes, one in the middle and one at the end.
         The verses are different but center around the same notes and the
         refrain repeat is very similar, except for slight variations.

Why Can't I - Verse/refrain with bridge.  Nothing special.  Pretty easy song
-----------   in my opinion, but it is a little tricky, especially in the
             bridge section.

Advanced Songs (3 notes)
========================

First tip: Yeah, you guessed it... PRACTICE!

Seriously, don't attempt these songs unless you meet one of two criteria:
1) You know the song really well, including all the tricky parts and nuances.
2) You are a very advanced singer and can learn the tunes really quickly.
If you can't say you meet either of those criteria, just stay away at least
until you've completed all the other songs.  These are for the big boys, so
don't jump in the water if you haven't learned how to swim.  These songs are
either very varied in the different sections of the song, very fast, or are
very hard to sing for some other reason.  Some of them even throw all three
variables at you together, making for a real challenge.  I can't possibly
cover everything about these songs, but I can try to give you as much of a
heads up as possible.  You're in for a different experience with these songs.

A B C - The first thing I want to say about this song is that 50000 is NOT
-----   the maximum score.  Due to a scoring error the top is 48176, so if
       you hit that score, you've mastered the song, don't worry.  As for
       the tips, this song has a large range, meaning most people will have
       to make use of the octave switch, singing an octave higher or lower
       than the song at points so you can hit all the notes.  Personally, my
       range is large enough that I don't *have* to do that, but most of the
       people I've heard have to switch during a couple sections.  This is
       also one of those fast, varied songs I warned you about.  Don't get
       too attached to any one tune, because it's bound to change quickly.
----------------
Against All Odds - This is probably one of the easier songs of this group,
-------  the biggest thing to watch out for is when it seems to settle into
        a familiar tone, it tends to switch up on you when you least expect
        it.  The end is pretty different, so really watch it when you get
        there or you could fall flat on your face.
-----------------------------
Ain't No Mountain High Enough - The tune is fairly easy, the kickers are the
--------  bridge section and the last verse/refrain section.  Wanna know why?
         The key changes right after the bridge section.  So not only does
         the bridge try to throw you off, the tune is a whole step higher
         after the key change.  Sneaky.
----
Burn - Very fast.  Lots of quick changes, quick sections, jumping around
----   like crazy.  I don't know the song all that way, and to be honest I
      don't particularly like it, and it gives even ME trouble when I'm
      singing it because it's sometimes so hard to keep up with.  So don't
      get discouraged if you're having trouble with it, just work at it,
      learn it, work with the fast parts and just keep drilling it.
      Eventually you'll be able to at least belt it out until the end, then
      you can work on it to bring up the score.
-----------
China Grove - The song is very short, 25 phrases (the last two of which are
-----------   at the very end of the song after an interlude and are cut out
             for the short song) with some really short phrases, such as
             "Woh China Grove," and those short phrases can throw you off.
             There really isn't much in the song that is repeated, so you'll
             just have to learn each part of the song and meld it all
             together at the end.
------------------
If I Ain't Got You - Ew, improper grammar!  Back to the serious stuff.  This
----------  song isn't extremely hard, except there are quite a few times where
           the note is played around with, switches and trills, and a couple
           where it's done really fast near the end of the song.  Watch for
           these and the second verse, where the tune starts out similar in
           the first line then switches up and then goes back to sound like
           the end of the first verse.
--------------------
In the Midnight Hour - Lots of little slides in this song, so you have to
------  watch out for them.  The end of the song is much different than any
       other part, another thing to watch out for.  Other than that, not
       much to worry about.
---------------
Leave (Get Out) - Pretty fast, but not nearly as fast as Burn.  The second
----------  verse follows the first pretty closely until the second part.  The
           refrain is pretty much repeated every time, so that's nothing to
           worry about.  The parts you do have to worry about are the "Ooh"
           parts, as they move around a lot and can be hard to follow.  There
           are a few other parts that move like the "Ooh"s, so just watch out.
-----------------------
Oops!... I Did It Again - Lots of slides and changing notes in this one.  The
----------  refrain is generally the same each time it's repeated, so that's
           not one of the parts you need to concentrate on.  Keep an eye on
           the verses and the bridge, make sure you hit the odd fluctuations
           that inhabit some parts of the song.
-------
Respect - This is a rather short song, but they pack as much into it as
-------   possible, making it a bit of a challenge.  The "verse" parts don't
         really follow each other, and the real problem is that most people
         only know the "R-E-S-P-E-C-T..." part and not the rest of the song.
         Well, now's your chance to learn the rest, since that part is at
         the end of the song.  Yes, you have to sing the rest of the song
         before you get to the part everyone knows and loves.
------------
Shining Star - This is another song with a rather large range, so don't be
-------  surprised if you have to change octaves for parts.  Basically watch
        out with the verses as they vary a lot, but when you get to the
        refrain part you can take it easy as the refrain repeats.  The end
        part is rather easy, you just have to watch when it changes from
        refrain to the finishing lines.

Under Pressure - Probably one of the largest-ranged songs in the game, the
-----  note tubes go all the way from the bottom bar to the top bar.  The
      pitches span more than 2 octaves, so you'll almost definitely find
      yourself switching octaves at points.  The "doo da det" parts are
      ones you have to watch out for, and the major concern for the rest of
      the song is the range, which you'll adjust to eventually.

===============
Duet Strategies
===============

PRACTICE! I bet you're tired of hearing that, aren't you?  Tough.

Seriously, practicing is one of the best things to do for this game.  You may
not like it, but it helps A LOT.  For the duets, you want to find someone who
has a singing talent comparable to yours, maybe even better.  You may also
want to find 2 or 3 singing partners for the different songs.

Considering the fact that I've only recently found a good duet partner, I
can't give too much specific advice on the duets, but that will come in a
later update.

| D. Scoring Charts                                                           |

The following charts will allow you to see if you are on your way to getting a
perfect score of 50000 points.  This version will only include the scores you
will get for phrases should you be on your way to a perfect score.  For a
complete list of the score leading up to the end, phrase by phrase, with a
cumulative total as each phrase's score is added, you can see the Excel
spreadsheet I created to help me with the KR Party scores.  In order to find
the specific scoring pattern for a song from KR3, find one in KRP with the
same max combo and then find its scoring table on the spreadsheet.  Here is

Some of the numbers do not correspond to any max combos for songs in this game.
That's because I also used songs from KR Party to fill in the chart.  The
scoring algorithm for Vol. 3 and Party are the same, so the same chart can

the rest of the chart, but that won't be here until a later update.

|A. Medley| 2-8 Players
===========
The Multiplayer Medley mode works very much like the single player mode.  You
must choose the number of players, how many songs are in each medley, how many
rounds to play, and which (if any) rounds are to be random.  The difficulty
of each song is displayed in the bottom right corner of the selection screen.
After all players have made their selections, the round begins.  Scoring is
the same as in the single player round, but instead of standing alone the
scores are compared.  After each round a screen will appear with each player's
score or round standings (push Square to toggle) and overall standing.

|B. Arcade| 2-8 Players
===========
The multiplayer Arcade mode is very similar to the single player Arcade mode.
The scoring system is identical; however, instead of singing by yourself to
achieve the best score you can, the object in the multiplayer mode is to
outscore your opponents by singing your song better than your opponents. The
screen layout is also identical when you're singing the song and just after you
complete it. After you see the last player's statistics, a screen will come
up that shows each player's ranking or score (square to toggle) for that song
and their overall ranking.

The difficulty of the songs you can choose for the different rounds is shown
in the table below:

|C. Karaoke Competition| 3-8 Players
========================
The object of the Karaoke Competition is not to build up your score to beat
your opponents, but rather to win them over with your singing.  You and your
opponents vote on each others' performances from 1 star (worst) to 5 (best)
using various buttons on the controller. Your vote is kept secret so nobody
knows how you really liked their singing (and they can't get mad at you for
giving them a bad rating) and the only indication of how well or poorly anyone
did is given by the screen that tells you what place everyone is in after
everyone has completed their songs for the round.

|D. Duet|
=========
Duets are songs that are sung cooperatively by two players at the same time.
They are new to Volume 3 and add a new dimension to gameplay.  The duet is
scored similar to the single player modes, but the score is split between
the two parts.  There are two types of duets, unison and true duets.

Unison Duets: These songs are solo songs, so both players since the part in
unison.  The score for these songs is 25000 per player for a total of 50000.
True Duets: These songs are duet songs, so each player has his or her own
part to sing.  The scores are not divided equally between players, so one
player may get a higher score than the other.  However, the scores still add
up to 50000.  (Again, the exception to this rule is ABC.  I don't know the
max score for the duet, but once I find out I will post it.)

Duets can be played with one team, cooperative, or multi-team, teams against
each other.

In this mode, players take turns singing parts of a song's verses then sing
the chorus in unison.  The player with the higher score at the end of the song
wins the round.  If both players have the same score it is a draw.

|F. Knockout|
=============
In Knockout mode, players sing the entire song in unison.  There is a bar on
the left side of the screen between the players' scores.  If one player scores
better than another on a phrase, the bar will move toward the other player. If
the bar moves completely to one player's side, the game is over and the player
who scored better wins.  If the players manage to finish the song, the player
with the higher score wins.  If both players have the same score it is a draw.

This section records all the highest scores you have achieved in the songs in
their full length.  If you play them in Showtime or Quick Play and Full Song,

This section simply displays the credits for the game creators and song
