I. INTRODUCTION
Okami has been around for eight-ish years now (March 2014), and while there are
several documents on GameFAQs which collectively contain all 7224 Praise to be
found, none of them are dedicated to Praise exclusively. This document intends
to amend that.
Before I begin in earnest, I would like to extend a deep thanks to MattAdot,
whose excellent and superlative FAQ was utilized to cross-reference and
corroborate the Praise I had documented independently. Big thanks also go to
CJ800 for the clover guide and Mookiethebold for his sidequest guide. These
guys wrote great works which helped me when I was searching for the things I
had missed after my first playthrough WAY back in 2008.
There are two main sections to the body of this guide, and both should be self-
explanatory. When I say "talk to person X", I mean talk to him/her until the
green arrow disappears. "Day" is assumed unless I specify "night" for all
things listed in the guide. I will attempt to avoid unnecessary spoilers, but
some names and events simply must be specific for the guide to be successful.
With that said,
THIS DOCUMENT WILL ALMOST CERTAINLY CONTAIN SPOILERS OF SOME SORT.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SHORT FAQ: I took the liberty of predicting likely questions.
Q: Was this guide REALLY necessary?
A: Probably not, but I think it's a nice, convenient document for those who
don't want to wade through a walkthrough, or piece together the animal,
clover, and sidequest guides themselves.
Q: Are you sure there's 7224 Praise?
A: Yes and no. I know my numbers are correct for the PS2 Greatest Hits and the
Wii releases, but I cannot speak for the original PS2 release or the HD
rerelease on PS3. Also, there may yet be more Praise hiding out there. If
YOU can verify and reproduce my numbers on the versions I am unsure of,
please do so and send me an email so I can better answer this question.
Q: I found more Praise than you.
A: Cool; send me an email with a description of what you did to get the Praise,
and if I can reproduce the results, you'll be credited in the guide. (And if
you DO email me, make sure the Praise in question isn't already in the
guide. Seriously, save us both some time.)
Q: How high does the Praise ticker go?
A: To 9999: it carries over through New Game + files. Technically, the maximum
possible Praise is 16,019 if you include the 6020 Praise invested into
maxing your stats.
Q: How much Praise is obtained solely through events required to beat the game?
A: 639 Praise will always be gotten through the course of beating the game:
20 from defeating the Green Imps in Kamiki Village
30 from defeating the Red Imp in Kamiki
30 from the Hana Valley Guardian Sapling
15 from defeating the Yellow Imp in Hana
15 from defeating the drunken Imps in Hana
30 from the Shinshu Field Guardian Sapling
20 from dead trees in Kamiki
20 from Konohana in Kamiki
30 from the Agata Forest Guardian Sapling
15 from defeating two Bud Ogres in the Tsuta Ruins
15 from the Devil Gate trio in Tsuta
20 from purifying the water in Tsuta
30 from 3 dead patches in Tsuta
10 from the log-ride minigame in Agata
30 from the Taka Pass Guardian Sapling
10 from the dead patch in Kusa Village
40 from feeding the Canine Warriors of Kusa (Ko, Shin, Rei, Chi)
7 from beating Hayabusa's turnip record in Kamiki (I kid you not.)
30 from defeating the boss of the Gale Shrine
30 from a Devil Gate in the Moon Cave
50 from the Ryoshima Coast Guardian Sapling
20 from the digging minigame in Sei-an City (Commoners' Quarter)
2 from feeding the cat at the top of Catcall Tower
20 from the Watcher in North Ryoshima Coast
50 from Yoichi in Kamui
50 from the Kamui Guardian Sapling
As can be seen, the game forces less Praise on you as the story progresses.
(447 in Act 1, compared with 92 in Act 2 and 100 in Act 3)
Q: Can't a few of those events be skipped? I saw this speedrun, and...
A: Yes, you can skip several of these. It is possible to walk around the
battle trigger for the drunken Imps while leaving Hana Valley, and you can
skip the Bloom events in Kamiki Village by entering Agata Forest without
Lily Pad. I guess if you're into avoiding Praise you can shave off 55 to
bring your story total to 584. Also, if you're on new game plus, the Karmic
Transformer glitch pretty much breaks the game. But this guide isn't for
speedrunning, so let's go forward with the assumption that you're reading
this guide to FIND all the Praise as opposed to skipping it.
Q: How much Praise is permanently missable?
A: 593 is missable forever (plus 15 or 25):
40 from 3 clovers in the Moon Cave
60 from 3 clovers in the Imperial Palace
30 from Yoichi's sidequest in North Ryoshima Coast
50 from a clover in Oni Island
25 from 15 dead trees in Spirit Gate A
10 from an animal in Spirit Gate A
90 from 3 clovers in Spirit Gate A
18 from 8 dead trees in Spirit Gate B
270 from 8 clovers in Spirit Gate B
And technically, if you mess up while transporting the Aspiring Carpenter,
you could potentially miss 15 or 25 Praise, depending on whether you got
5 or 15 Praise for transporting him instead of the perfect 30.
Overall, the game is very forgiving when it comes to Praise; you only need
4500 for the S rank and 6020 to max stats, so you have a buffer of 2724 for
the ranking and 1204 for your stats.
Q: Is there any reason to continue collecting Praise after I've maxed my stats?
A: YES, ABSOLUTELY! For every 1 Praise you receive AFTER you've collected the
6020 required to max your stats, you will receive 1,000 Yen. That's
1,204,000 Yen if you get every bit of Praise. For comparison, if you were to
find and sell EVERY treasure in the game, they would only add up to
1,345,700 Yen. You're basically doubling the money you get outside of combat
and the fishing minigame!
Q: Since you painstakingly listed every Praise event, how many are there?
A: In total, the Praise events in the game are 608. They are:
212 dead or cursed trees
145 animal groups
141 clovers
15 optional Devil Gates
13 optional dead patches
56 individual events from 27 character-specific sidequests
26 story events, not including Kamiki's dead trees or any animal feeding
Q: Spirit Gate A/B?
A: Experienced players should know what I'm talking about; otherwise, play the
game and find out for yourself.
Q: Why "rough" chronological order?
A: Because this is a reference resource, not a walkthrough. This guide's
chronology is "earliest possible" instead of "most logical", and most of the
Praise events in the same section can be done in any order.
Q: Why is the list by area so much cleaner than the other section?
A: Frankly, I wrote that one after the first one, and I wanted to ensure it was
easy to read and had as little vagueness as possible. Also, I didn't want to
copy and paste the information from one section to another, so a rewrite was
bound to be slightly better than the original. Plus, the list is where I
assumed most players would go anyway, since there are much better routes for
getting through the game with all of the Praise than the one I have here.
Q: I have another question./I want to contact you.
A: Please send me a PM on GameFAQs (Alkaloid). I will probably answer within a
day or two. Emails are not likely to be read, since I check my hotmail
maybe once a year. Maybe.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
II. PRAISE IN ROUGH CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER
This section is organized by the "earliest possible moment" principle. Unless I
state otherwise in the explanation for a specific Praise opportunity, every bit
of Praise per section can be done contemporarily. (i.e.: You can do most of the
listed events in any order you wish.) Obvious exceptions to this are story
events, which must be done as the story dictates, and Blooming the Sapling in
each area, which (usually) must be done before any of the other Praise in that
area may be obtained.
Also, if you find something in this section vague or confusing, look up its
counterpart in the other section. Many of the Praise descriptions are different
in the list, because I typed both from my notes separately. (That is, I did not
copy and paste from one section to the other.)

==============================
3. AFTER LEARNING WATER LILY = (357 combined, 819 gross)
==============================
Locations: Kamiki Village, Agata Forest, Tsuta Ruins
Kamiki Village (15 total)
--------------
10: Talk to the sisters at the base of Konohana. When prompted, tackle Camille.
5: from Blooming one (1) clover. It is on the large island reachable by
swimming from Susano's house. You must use Water Lily to make landfall.

------------
30: Bloom the Guardian Sapling. (required by story)
15: Clear the Devil Gate on the peninsula next to the cave.
15: Clear the Devil Gate in front of the Tsuta Ruins entrance.
10: Bloom the dead patch inside the tree at Hitoshio Spring. (This is the only
bit of Praise in the game that does not explicitly give you Praise bubbles.
However, if you check your Praise before and after Blooming it, you should
have a ten point increase.)
10: Bloom the dead patch in front of Karude's house.
10: Bring one of the three forest spheres (bud, walnut, or beehive) to Sleepy
the Bear. Sleepy will be outside the exit to Shinshu (the one you used to
enter the forest). The bud is just lying around along the forest path, the
walnut is released by clearing the Devil Gate on the peninsula, and the
beehive must be Slashed down from one of the trees growing out of the lake.
Rolling the spheres (especially the beehive) uphill can be frustrating for
some; I personally recommend tackling them at an angle into a wall. This
seems to lessen their jumpiness.
10: Bring a second forest sphere to Sleepy.

Sei-an City (Commoners' Quarter) (429 total)
--------------------------------
39: from Blooming twenty (20) dead trees. They are:
6: near the exit to Ryoshima Coast
4: in the central shopping area
1: on the west side of town
7: on the east side of town
1: in Mr. Flower's house
20: on Mr. Flower's head
20: Talk to Mr. Flower after Blooming ALL of the dead trees listed above. This
will start an event where you must follow him around town, and Bloom the
trees he purifies with his dancing. You will receive the Praise when you
finish.
20: Talk to Blossom on the west side of town, and give her Herbal Medicine.
You can buy the meds at the Tool Dealer in town for 2,000 Yen.
20: Enter Blossom's house and talk to her and her father. Tackle her father.
This can only be done after giving Blossom the medicine AND helping
Mr. Flower.
100: Talk to the City Dweller (a little girl) on the east side of town (she's
the one drawing in the road), and give her the Charcoal. You can buy the
stuff at the Tool Dealer in town for 2,000 Yen. Talk to her again, and you
will see a thought bubble over her head with a symbol inside. Go to the
west side of town, and enter Mr. Chic's kimono shop. Talk to Mr. Chic, and
draw the symbol you saw in the girl's thoughts on the kimono. You'll know
you did it correctly because Mr. Chic will say it can "make something
happen". After he says that, go back to the girl and talk to her for 20
Praise. Repeat this process four more times for all the Praise. For
reference, the symbols are:
20: a star
20: a heart
20: a "V"
20: a clover
20: a kanji representing the gods
120: Around town, you have surely noticed several "Ferry Ports", complete with
signs saying as much. At four of these ports are passengers waiting for a
ride to another port. Your job is to transport them to their destination
using one of your Water Lilies, blown about with Galestorm. Three of them
may be transported many times until you succeed in gaining all their
Praise, but the Aspiring Carpenter can only be transported once, SO MAKE
SURE YOU GET ALL OF HIS ON YOUR FIRST TRY. (If you're not going to make
it, jump off the Lily and swim away until the timer disappears.) For
reference, the passengers are:
30: the Aspiring Carpenter, at the port near his house; he wants to be
transported to Naguri's house, which is by the northwestern most port
30: the City Dweller (woman in pink), at the port by Naguri's house; she
wants to be transported to the southeastern most port, near the Guard
30: the City Dweller (woman in yellow), at the port near the Tool Dealer; she
wants to be transported to the port behind the Weapon Dealer
30: the City Dweller (man with a straw hat), at the port on the west end of
town, near the bank; he wants to be transported to the port next to the
Aspiring Carpenter's house
The Praise breakdown for each passenger is:
30 Praise for arriving with 2:00 or more
15 Praise for arriving between 0:30 and 1:59
5 Praise for arriving between 0:01 and 0:29
0 Praise for running out of time, or giving up
In an effort to explain how the math works for this sidequest, let's say
you transported the male dweller, and arrived with 0:25. He's pissed; but
at least he got there, so you get 5 Praise. You decide to try again, and
manage to get him there with 1:27 left. He's happy; but since you already
met the 5 Praise requirement, you will get 10 Praise instead of the 15
listed above. Make sense? The Praise you receive is FIXED per passenger,
but CUMULATIVE over all their rides. 5 + 10 + 15, 5 + 25, 15 + 15, and 30
are all the trip combination possibilities. So, save yourself some time,
and go for the full 30 in one trip.
50: Talk to Yama inside his restaurant, and give him the Golden Mushroom. When
prompted, draw the symbol on the wall (an "8") and part of your reward
will be this Praise.
To get the Golden Mushroom: in Taka Pass, talk to the Tea Master near the
Origin Mirror. Go over to the Molsters (on the hill east of the Cutters'
House), and win their minigame to receive the Teacup. Take it back to the
Tea Master, and he'll give you the Golden Mushroom.
60: On the east side of town, talk to the Guard near the brazier. He'll gab
about Hayazo, and mention that he can't be caught because it's too dark.
Go to the brazier near the exit to the Aristocratic Quarter, and move its
flame from torch to torch until you've lit the braziers in the city center
and near the Guard. (And, no, you can't light them with Fireburst; it must
be Inferno.) AT NIGHT, Slash one of the boulders near the Guard (the one
in question alternates between the one next to the Guard and the one a
little further up the path, near a torch), and out pops Hayazo. Beat him
at his minigame, and then tackle him for an item that should be returned
to its rightful owner. You can only get one item per night. They are:
20: the Glass Watch, which belongs to the Samurai Dandy who walks about the
city center
20: the Millet Dumplings, which belong to Momotaro, the boy who hangs out on
the west side of town
20: the Chrysanthemum Hairpin, which belongs to the City Dweller who spends

After said story event, you WILL be railroaded through the next dungeon,
and by the time you get back from it Yoichi will have relocated to Kamui.
DON'T PUT THIS ONE OFF IF YOU'RE AN OBSESSIVE COMPLETIONIST.
20: Talk to the fisherman on the westernmost island, and give him the Marlin
Rod. The rod may be bought at the merchant on the mainland, or from the
Tool Dealer in Sei-an for 10,000 Yen (either store). Do the fishing
minigame you should be familiar with, and then go to Umi's Restaurant (on

======================================
13. SEI-AN CITY (COMMONERS' QUARTER) = (649 combined, 3761 gross)
======================================
Story Event (20 total)
-----------
20: Win Naguri's digging minigame.
Sidequests (629 total; 15 TO 25 POTENTIALLY PERMANENTLY MISSABLE)
----------
50: Talk to Yama at his restaurant, and give him the Golden Mushroom. Draw the
symbol on the wall (an "8") when prompted.
To get the Mushroom: in Taka Pass, talk to the Tea Master near the Origin
Mirror to learn of his lost Teacup. Go over to the Molsters, and win their
game to recover it. Take it back to the Tea Master for the Mushroom.
120: The Ferry Service Sidequest. The goal here is to transport a passenger
from one port to another on one of your Water Lilies, propelled through
the canal with Galestorm. Every passenger is worth up to 30 Praise, and
with one exception, you can retry the transportation until you meet the
requirement for the full Praise. The rules are:
1) If the passenger reaches his or her destination with 2:00 or more on
the clock, you will get the full 30 Praise.
2) If the clock is between 0:30 and 1:59, you will get 15 Praise.
3) If the clock is between 0:01 and 0:29, you will get 5 Praise.
4) If the clock hits 0:00 or you give up and run away, no Praise is
awarded, and you can retry.
5) If you previously met a requirement, the Praise you receive will be
the Praise you earned minus the Praise you've already won. So, if you
earned 15 Praise, but already won 5 Praise, you will get 10 Praise,
and so forth.
6) The possible Praise combinations are 5 + 10 + 15, 5 + 25, 15 + 15, or
the full 30. (Hooray for basic math skills...)
The passengers and their destinations are:
30: The Aspiring Carpenter, at the dock by his house on the east end. He
wants to go to the port near Naguri's house, which is in the northwest
corner of the city. HE CANNOT BE TRANSPORTED AGAIN AFTER HE REACHES
HIS DESTINATION, SO ANY PRAISE YOU MISS IS GONE FOR GOOD.
30: A woman at the northwestern port (by Naguri's house). She wants to go
to the port in the southeastern corner of the city.
30: A woman at the port north of the Tool Dealer. She wants to go to the
port next to the Weapon Dealer. (Why she can't just walk across the
street is anyone's guess.)
30: A man at the southwestern port. He wants to go to the port by the
Aspiring Carpenter's house. (This guy could also walk to his
destination. These Sei-an dwellers are a lazy bunch.)
99: The Mr. Flower and Blossom Sidequest. I place these four events together
because they're interrelated. They are:
20: Talk to Blossom on the west side of town, and give her the Herbal
Medicine. You can buy this at the Tool Dealer in town for 2,000 Yen.
39: Bloom the twenty (20) dead trees around town. They are:
1: On the west side of town.
10: In the city center.
7: On the east side of town.
1: Inside Mr. Flower's house.
20: On Mr. Flower's head.
20: The Gura Shuffle. After Blooming the dead trees, talk to Mr. Flower.
Follow him around town, and Bloom the trees he purifies.
20: After giving Blossom the Medicine and assisting with the Gura Shuffle,
enter Blossom's house and talk to her father. Tackle him for the last
bit of Praise.
100: The Kimono Design Sidequest. Start out by buying the Charcoal from the
Tool Dealer for 2,000 Yen. Walk over to the east side of town, and talk to
the girl drawing in the road. Give her the Charcoal, and then talk to her
again to see a design in her thoughts. Walk over to the west side of town,
and enter the kimono shop (it's the one in front of the bridge). Talk to
Mr. Chic inside to get the ball rolling:
20: Draw the design from the girl's thoughts (it should be a star), and if
you do it correctly, Mr. Chic will say it can "make something happen".
Go back and talk to the girl for the Praise.
20: Talk to the girl again for a new design (a heart), and repeat the
stuff you did for the previous one.
20: This time it's a "V".
20: Now a clover.
20: And finally, a kanji representing the gods. If you have trouble with
this one, hold "X" while drawing the two horizontal lines, and try to
be more precise with the curvature of the other two.
50: The Sisters' Sidequest, Part 2. You must have done Part 1 in Kamiki
Village before you can do this. Also, you must know Deluge. Talk to the
sisters on the west side of town. When prompted, dot the ground to make a
tree. Talk to them some more, and then make the tree again, and follow it
with Deluge.
To learn Deluge: after finishing Oni Island, walk behind Himiko's Palace
in the Aristocratic Quarter, and water the gravestones using the nearby
basin.
210: Hayazo's Sidequest. Start by making sure every large brazier in town is
lit. You can't use Fireburst; you must drag the flame from torch to torch,
starting with the brazier near the exit to the Aristocratic Quarter. Next,
make certain it is NIGHT, and then Slash one of the boulders near the
Guard in the southeast corner of the city. The one you must destroy
alternates between the one next to the Guard, and one a little ways up the
path. Once Hayazo is exposed, he will explain his minigame, and then it's
off to the races:
20: Victory in the first game gets you the Glass Watch. Take it to the
Samurai Dandy who walks about the city center.
20: Make a day pass, and win the second game for the Millet Dumplings.
Bring them to Momotaro, the boy who hangs out on the west side.
20: Make a day pass, and win the third game for the Chrysanthemum Hairpin.
Give it to the man who drinks his nights away in Yama's Restaurant.
50: After finishing Oni Island, win the fourth game to get some Praise
from Hayazo himself.
50: Take the Tao Mask you won to Tao Trooper Abe at the Tao Trooper HQ.
The HQ is reached by using the Power Spring in the southeastern corner
of the city. If there isn't one there, fill the dried-up pond with
water from the canal.
50: After finishing the Wawku Shrine, talk to the man to whom you gave the
Hairpin for some free Praise.

demons in 30 seconds or less.
30: Bloom the twenty (20) dead trees. They are:

V. CREDITS
This is really more of a thank-you section, since I wrote the thing myself.
MattAdot: for writing the main source I used to cross-reference and corroborate
this guide, which also led me to three chests I never knew existed
before last month. (You can get behind that web in the Imperial
Palace? WHAT!?)
Mookiethebold: for writing the sidequest guide, which led me to at least four
Praise events I missed during my first playthrough, and also for
being one of the best consistent posters on the game's forums.
(If you still only get 7214 after this, I demand an email!)
CJ800: for writing the clover guide, which led me to the two clovers I missed
my seventh time through the game. (MUCH thanks; I never would have
looked behind that waterfall or in that blindspot.)
The game's creators: for making a game that causes completionists like me to
roll about in fits of glee. This game is magic.
The reader: for actually reading the credits. (Now go outside.)
