    I wanted to make this guide to answer peoples questions concerning
fishing and to “fill in” the gaps people seem to be missing within the
Fish Tome. This FAQ MAY CONTAIN A FEW SPOILERS but nothing big and serious.
All right then, on to the guide.

III. How to Fish
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

    At a certain point in the game, you will be required to fish as part
of the main story. It is pretty simple to learn and pick up in a short
time. Once you start fishing, simply hold down R1 to bring out your
Celestial Brush and then draw a line using the Square (S) button from the
fishing pole to the fish in the water. You will know you have the Celestial
Brush over the pole/fish correctly when the ink is black and coming off of
the object in a “fluttery” pattern. Once you hook the fish, you must pull
or tap the left analog stick in the opposite direction that the fish is
swimming.

    This will cause the face icon on the bar on the top of the screen to
move to the right. The face icon changes from blue, to green, to red. If
it is blue, you are not pulling in the right direction or not hard enough.
If it is green, then this means you are reeling in the fish correctly.
If it is red, then you are straining yourself which will cause your life
gauge in the lower right part of the screen to deplete. If you run out
completely, then the fisherman will be pulled into the water, losing the
fish in the process.

    Once you reel in the fish close enough, a random button symbol will
appear on the screen. It will either be Triangle (T), Square (S),
Circle (O), or X. Once you see this, press the corresponding button and
the fish will pop out of the water. Quickly bring out your Celestial Brush
with R1, and then draw a straight line through the fish. Depending on the
fish it will take one, two, or three Power Strikes to finally catch the
fish.

IV. Hints & Tips

    First of all, sometimes catching the larger fish can be difficult.
They thrash around frantically and change directions very frequently.
This can become annoying in a short time. In my experience, it is
best to push the left analog in the opposite direction at an angular
motion between left/right and down instead of completely left or right.
You can also try wiggling the analog stick back and forth, though for
the “stronger” fish it can be a bit difficult to do that motion without
straining your life bar.

    Time of day is important in fishing. Some fish only show up during
day while others only show up during night. If you are not getting the
fish you want, try changing it to day/night depending on your situation.
You may be at the right spot, just not at the right time! Hopefully, I
will have the time of day each fish show up in the next update as I am
still working on it at the moment.

    Selling fish can be quite profitable. Even more profitable in
certain locations. Fish sell for more in TAKA PASS and SEI-AN CITY
(COMMONERS DISTRICT). There may be other locations where fish sell
for more as well, although I have not encountered any as of yet.

V. Fishing Spots

There are four fishing spots in Okami.

1.) Agata Forest
2.) Sei-An City (Aristocratic District)
3.) N. Ryoshima Coast
4.) Kamui

    Agata Forest - You must fish in Agata Forest at a certain time in order
to advance the story. The fisherman in this area is Kokari and he can be
found on the southeastern “island” in Agata Forest. You need to revive the
Guardian Sapling in the area before you can fish with him the first time.
You can fish with him again once you have cleared Tsuta Ruins and fixed the
bridge.

    Sei-An City (Aristocratic District) - You must fish in Sei-An City
(Aristocratic District) at a certain time in order to advance the story. The
fisherman in this area is Benkei and he can be found on the large drawbridge.
You have to purchase “Blinding Snow” from the Item Merchant in Sei-An City
(Commoner’s District) before you can fish with him. After the first time you
fish with Benkei, you can fish with him again once you have cleared the mist
from Sei-An City. He moves near the Mermaid Spring in Sei-An City
(Aristocratic District) past the Lecture Hall building.

   N. Ryoshima Coast – This fishing spot is actually NOT required to advance
the story. However, there is a sidequest that allows you to earn a Brush
Technique. The fisherman’s name is “Fisherman” go figure. He is located on
the southwestern island on N. Ryoshima Coast. You might need Orca to reach
this area since the Water Dragon may get in your way from reaching this
island otherwise.

    Kamui – This fishing spot is not required to advance the story. It
serves no other purpose other than to catch fish. It is located to the south
near the Dojo in Kamui. Kokari is the fisherman here and you can fish with
him whenever you want after you revive the Guardian Sapling.

    ***NOTE*** It should be noted that at a certain point in the game, the
fishing spot in Agata Forest is lost due to the fisherman leaving that area.
You can catch the fish that appear at Agata Forest in Sei-An City, although
it is a bit tricky since there is a larger variety of fish to catch in that
spot.

    Before I start, I’d like to tell you the format in which I’ll be
