1.  Introduction
===============================================================================

Arc the Lad was way off my radar till I tried a brief demo of the new
PS2 game at Best Buy.  I'm a bit abnormal in that I only need a few
minutes to know whether or not I'll like a game from start to finish.
Well, I liked Arc the Lad.  I'm writing this faq mainly to get something
new on my contributor page, and also because nearly everyone who writes
a faq for RPGs seems to be damn well determined to write down every detail,
gameplay-related or plot-related without any consideration on whether you
want the story spoiled for you.  Well, I'm here to prep you for battle,
tell you where all the items are (mostly just the ones I find) and leave
the story for you to discover.  If you want a faq that'll get you through
the game, but leave the plot free, you picked the right guide.

3.  Characters
===============================================================================

Listed in order of appearance in the game.  This is just my opinion in
general about each character, along with a brief assessment of their
abilities.  Enjoy.

*** Kharg ***

This guy's your hero and all-around fighter guy.  Above-average stats in
every category, with some good healing spells to boot.  It isn't till much,
much later that he gets an attack skill that affects an area, though.

*** Paulette ***

An extended range and decent attack and defense make for a great lady fighter.
She's also rather rounded in terms of stats, and can hit two or more enemies
if they're bunched up.  Her skills do great amounts of damage, and she has a
lot of them.  She's just not what you might call a power hitter.

*** Maru ***

Terrible starting defense, but that's easily fixed with a few accessories.
Naturally his attack power is lousy to compensate for his insane attack range.
He can easily hit two or more enemies if they're lined up relatively straight,
plus his early skills are both damaging and satisfying.  Later on you can get
an item to widen his attack range, but I think this also shortens the area he
can hit.  I'm not sure, though.

*** Darc ***

Like Kharg, Darc is the typical all-around hero of this RPG in terms of stats.
Unlike Kharg, this guy has some badass skills that should be used and abused
to clear the field of enemies.  Plus his offensive power is through the roof!
He later gets items that increase his attack range, making him incredibly
dangerous.

*** Delma ***

She gets some nice healing magic, and some great speed and attack, but like
Maru, her defense lacks.  Her Speed Up spell (that she starts with, no less)
should be used throughout the game.  She's got other stat-boosting spells and
she often takes the first turn in a battle, which gives you a great opportunity
to buff up your fighters.  She's a fine warrior/mage, just try to keep her
from getting kicked around.

*** Densimo ***

You get him for a very short time, and as you would expect, his attack power
is his best feature.  His hit and defense are lower than Darc's, even at
the same level.  About his only redeeming values are his strength and HP.

*** Ganz ***

This guy's a tank.  Massive attack and decent defense, but as you would
expect, his speed and movement are low.  He starts out with a great area
attack skill that causes lots of havoc if he's surrounded by enemies.  He
later gains some stat-boosting spells that'll improve his own tank-ness.
He also boasts some special moves that damage and deal negative buffs to
enemies.

*** Volk ***

His ATK is high when you get him, but unfortunately his DEF is rather weak
for some reason.  His DEF remains pretty low, even with some good accessories.
Equipping him with two armbands as opposed to one helps a lot.  His area of
attack is pretty wide, so he's best when used to smack two or more enemies
at once.  His low defense sometimes makes him a liability, but if you can
keep him healed and in tip-top shape, he's your wolfman.  Use him for his
power, abuse him for his stat-boosting spells.

*** Camellia ***

Besides being ugly as sin, she's not that bad.  Low attack power, but she's
got a ranged attack, so it evens out.  Her defense is better than Volk's
starting out, and she has some character-specific accessories that boost
it even higher.  She's not a front-line character by any means, but she is
quite possibly the best healer you'll ever get.  She also gets some weapons
that incur status effects on enemies, but they don't work that often.  Just
use her for healing and taking out grouped-up enemies like with Maru, and
she'll work out for you.

*** Bebedora ***

She's got above-average stats all around, plus a high max spirit stone count.
Her real draw is the Mind Control spell that lets her take control of an
enemy.  Use it and abuse it.  She's got relatively low HP, somewhere around
Delma's level.  On the very plus side, she's got some dark elemental magic
that really kills.  Literally.  Not only that, but she holds twice the items
of most characters, for a max of 16!  Sweet!  Her only downside is a low MOV,
which is a bummer when you consider she's a close-range combatant.

*** Tatjana ***

She's like Paulette in terms of stats, but with a much wider range of attack
Her skills are fun to use.  Medical Machine is a great healing spell, and
Mirage Field makes her invisible to enemies.  Sigma Gale and Sigma Storm are
both light-elemental, making them great to use against enemies later in the
game.  The only downside is her attack range remains low until you get an
item for her in the last dungeon.

*** Samson ***

For the brief time you get to use him, he's a replacement for Maru with
slightly better attack power.  His guns have identical range to Maru's bow,
but can hit in a slightly wider area.  His MOV, however, is pretty crappy
compared to the others, somewhere around Bebedora's, but his long-range
attack makes it a wash.

*** Choco ***

Don't let her appearance fool you, Choco is flat-out amazing!  One of the
two secret characters, her starting level is 35, which isn't too high
considering you have to be at level 30 just to beat the 30-round arena
challenge in Rueloon to get her.  Choco's defense is greater than most of
your party, even without any armor!  Her attack power is also off the charts,
and her movement area is as large as Camellia's!  She's fast, strong, and
has a wide range of powerful spells, and can hold can hold 16 items, making
her well worth the time to get her into your party.  Her only downside is
that she can't be used in the story battles, but give her some equipment
and she'll tear through the other arena challenges for you.

*** Diekbeck ***

Much like Choco, Diekbeck is a powerhouse,  Max movement, great stats,
incredible abilities.  The Diek Screw item gives him amazing speed, and
he has a better range of attack than Choco.  He still can't be used in
story battles, so don't bother unless you need help with the other arena
challenges.

4.  Walkthrough
===============================================================================

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4a. Chapter 1:  Kharg's Story - The First Battle
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You'll first watch a brief cutscene.  When you gain control, enter the house
(the one you're standing in front of) then enter the door on the right when
you're able.  When you regain control, talk to Paulette and leave.  Talk to
Banjo, receive some cash, then hit the shops and buy what you like.  When
you're done, head out the front gate (the only way out of town) and go to
Scrappe Plateau.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 1 - Enter the Squirrels
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, I will be making cute names for all the battles.  There's nothing to
this fight, really.  It barely warrants a FAQ review.  Pay attention to
what your party says during the fight, as they'll give you hints and tips
that'll be useful for future battles.  The only thing I can tell you is,
know thy enemy.  For this battle, know that the squirrels have a low range
of movement, while you can move all around this place.  To that end, rather
than rushing to the edge of your movement circle, go to the halfway point
(with both characters) and let the squirrels waste their first turn moving
into your range of attack.  This won't work with every enemy, but it's a
decent all-around strategy when you can't move close enough to score the
first hit.

=== End Battle ===

When you're done, you'll have a talk with the unusual Zed, then leave for
Yewbell.  There's nothing for you at Scrappe, so just leave.  Once back,
you'll see a scene involving Lloyd and Morth.  Go to your house once it's
done, watch the cutscene, then talk to Nafia and Morth.  Leave the house
and Zed will show up demanding to be let in via the locked gate.  Go to
the pub and talk to the kid standing to the right of it in the shadows,
then speak to Duncan inside to get the gate key.  Unlock the gate, watch
the cutscene, then enter the castle ruins.

There's only one path through here, so you can't get lost.  Just go up
two sets of stairs, then down the right-hand stairs to exit.  Go to the
Chaos Forest and watch yet another cutscene, then enter into your second
battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 2 - When Yetis Attack
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My levels  (Note: if you're at or around my levels, you should have no
more trouble than me in the given battle.)

Kharg - 4
Maru - 2

Another easy one, though you're introduced to a new element here: the
low-defense weakling with the massive attack range.  Yes, I mean Maru.
Even the squirrels do huge damage to him, and he doesn't have a lot of
HP.  Naturally, keep him away from the action and let Kharg soak up
the damage while dealing out some of his own.

Starting out, position Maru so he can shoot through the tree trunk and
the yeti in the same attack.  There's a good herb in there, so it's
worth the trouble.  Don't let Kharg waste his turn attacking the tree,
though.  Use Maru's range to his advantage to hit two or more enemies
in a single attack, and play around with his skills if you feel like it.
All in all, just heal if you need to and take out the enemies.

=== End Battle ===

Watch the cutscene and gain a new party member.  Now you have two choices.
Either go back to Yewbell and heal, or press on.  I'd recommend healing,
because you can buy a leather armband for Maru (really, he needs it).
Once you're ready, head to Plumb.  You may encounter some random battles
when passing over the forest, but they're just four weakling squirrels,
so punish them and take some experience and SP for your troubles.  Once
you arrive at Plumb, you're thrust into a rather expected battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 3 - Battle at Plumb Canyon
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 5
Maru - 4
Paulette - 3

This battle is surprisingly simple.  Focus on the wyverns first, then
let the Drakyr plod along to catch up to you.  Bust open the crate if
you can, but don't waste turns getting the far one on the other edge
of the battlefield.  The Drakyr have really low defense, so one of
Kharg's hits should take away a lot of their 47 HP.  Fight on, and
remember Paulette's range can also let you hit two or more enemies if
they're bunched up.  Don't let the Drakyr get in too many hits, and
you'll be fine.

=== End Battle ===

Watch the cutscene, then talk to Maru when you get the chance to leave
the area.  Go to the only point on the world map you can reach, and you'll
enter into yet another cutscene.  Here's where you'll be glad I didn't
spoil things.  The story's on automatic from now on, so keep watching till
it lets you save your game (which you should).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4b. Chapter 1:  Darc's Story - The Awakening
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once the cutscene is done with, simply leave the house and go to the world
map.  Try to level up in the forest to level 3 or 4.  Two or three battles
should do it.  Use Darc's healing magic to restore yourself, as your one
rotton herb won't do the trick.  You can visit the church to get a little
insight into Darc's psyche, but other than that it's not critical.  Once
you're ready, go to Orcoth.

Go down the steps to the right and view a cutscene, then talk to the big
fat white...thing in the upper right corner of the lower half of the town.
He's your healing guy for Darc's side, so remember what he looks like.  Go
to the arena (big archway leads to it) and watch another cutscene.  Save
if you want, then go back out to the town proper and go to the ruined shop.
The merchant Quorup will have magically appeared, so use your 100G to buy the
Phoenix Blood, and whatever you have left to get some herbs.  Finally, try
to leave.  You'll be stopped by a couple Deimos jackasses and challenged
to a fight.  Let's rumble.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 4 - Arena Challenge
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 3

If you leveled up, this'll be a cinch.  Focus your attacks on Zoram first,
and stay as far away from Zugalo as you can until Zoram dies.  Use magic
if you want, and in retrospect you should use Wind Slasher from a distance
against Zugalo as soon as you kill Zoram.  Besides that, there's not much
to say.  Fight well, and don't die.

=== End Battle ===

Cue another cutscene.  Delma will talk to you (ain't she a cute little
scary thong-wearing monster girly?) then you're free to leave for Geedo's
place once more.  I do hope you healed before leaving, since you'll likely
fight a random battle along the way.  When you reach Geedo's, head inside
and give her (yes, her) the Phoenix Blood and watch the cutscene.  Once you
regain control, head right back to Orcoth.

Once there, head to the bottom part of the town and go to the little
tent thing in the lower right corner.  Talk to Gorma and ask about the
Firbles, then heal and stock up on whatever, and leave.  Now you have
two paths to take: the easy way and the long way.  The easy way is going
to the marsh through Geedo's house.  The long way is...well, the other
way.  Either way, get to the marsh.

Unsurprisingly, as soon as you enter, you'll spot a Firble.  Hold the
circle button to walk.  You don't really need to be particularly sneaky,
just stay off the white patches of land (which are rocks, apparently,
and cause you to make noise when you walk).  Once you catch one, there
will be another cutscene.  You'll automatically be transported to the
church for another short scene.  Delma will show up, then run off.  Chase
after her (she went off to the right) for another cutscene.  Afterwards,
prepare for battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 5 - Drakyr Once More
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 5
Delma - 3

The fact that three of the Drakyr are stuck coming at you one at a time
from the staircase should provide you with a good idea of how to fight
this battle.  They'll still use magic on you from afar, so watch out and
definitely keep an eye on your HP.  This time the enemy can hit both of
you if you bunch up, so watch your positions as well.  Counter with your
own magic, and don't be afraid to use those spirit stones of yours.

=== End Battle ===

Afterwards, we have another cutscene!  Who'da thunk it?  Head back to
Geedo's house when you can, unless you feel the need to stop in and heal
or buy stuff in Orcoth.  Either way, go back and talk to Geedo.  When
the cutscenes are done with, head out and meet Delma once more.  Level
up if you want (wouldn't be a bad idea) and go to the church when you're
ready.  Make sure you're healed and have saved beforehand.  Watch the
cutscenes (checking on the Firble when prompted) then enter battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 6 - Damn Dirty Humans!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 6
Delma - 6

Kill Ludhi first.  He's your biggest threat.  Take out one of the shotgun
warriors, then kill Rapier to pick up his revival medicine.  Be a little
extra careful in this battle, as the shotgun warriors can raise their
attack power and do extra damage to you, plus they have an attack spell
that will damage both Darc and Delma if they're close together.  With only
2-1 odds, you shouldn't have any trouble with this fight as long as Ludhi
dies early on.

=== End Battle ===

Watch the cutscene, then go back to Orcoth.  Heal, buy stuff (if you want)
and go talk to Zoram and Zugalo at the entrance to the arena.  Go inside
when you're done and talk to Densimo.  Wait for the cutscene to end, then
leave the arena.  Before leaving the town, however, talk to the girl Deimos
in the lower left corner (near the path leading to Gorma's place)  Keep her
talking, then when she asks how many letters she used, respond with 600-800,
or the second to last choice.  You'll receive ten healing herbs for your
response.  Nice!  Save, heal, then head for Zedora Abyss.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 7 - Send 'em Into the Abyss
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 7
Delma - 6
Densimo - 7

This one's a little more difficult than normal, especially if you try to
get the items scattered around the level.  Use Darc and Densimo as front-
liners to absorb hits while Delma stands behind them and uses her attack
magic and heals (by this time she should have the cure spell).  You should
not finish this battle without destroying and taking the item beneath the
tree stump on the hill.  The Reiki leaf raises one party member's defense
stat permanently, so believe me, you want this.  The best way to do things
is take out all but one enemy (your choice) and stay away from him as you
have Delma take out the tree trunk, while Densimo and Darc go to the upper
right corner of the battlefield to bust open those two boxes.  You'll get
a decent amount of loot for your troubles.

=== End Battle ===

With that out of the way, watch Darc's reputation grow, then go to the
entrance to regain your party.  Use the Reiki leaf on someone (either
Darc or Delma, but NOT Densimo) then leave.  If you want my recommendation,
use the leaf on Delma to give her poor defense a boost so she can be a
front-liner too.  I used it on Darc, but then I tend to favor the main
character.  Once you're ready, head back to Orcoth.

There's not much to do once you arrive.  You'll see a brief cutscene in
which Densimo will offer his help on Darc's behalf, then you're free to
heal and shop.  I'd recommend selling some of the loot you got at the
abyss to increase your bankroll, then try to get yourself some good herbs
(and naturally some regular herbs).  Once you're done, go to the Varam
Barrens on the world map.

Upon arrival, you'll see Geedo decided to step out for a bit.  Watch the
cutscene, and prepare for battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 8 - Hostage Negotiations
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 8
Delma - 6
Densimo - 7

You remember the Wyvern creatures, right?  Well, now you have to deal
with four of them.  Feel free to scoff if you want.  They have no ranged
attacks, so use magic to soften them up before moving in for the kill.
They do have some powerful physical attacks, so don't let Delma get
cornered by a group of them.  Don't bother busting open the tree trunks,
there's nothing inside.  Take the wyverns one at a time with your entire
group, and they should fall easily.

=== End Battle ===

Watch the lengthy and somewhat brutal cutscene, then leave the area.
You should now go to the church, but first level up if Darc is any lower
than level 8.  Getting to level 9 or 10 is probably a good idea.  If you
used the Reiki leaf on him, you'll be slightly better off in the upcoming
battle.  Go to Orcoth before heading to the church to save, heal, and
restore your spirit stones.  Afterwards, hit the church.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 9 - Revenge Served Cold
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 9

Sorry, but this battle requires I spoil some things.  By the time you
read this, though, you should've seen the cutscene already and know
what's coming.

Before you start this battle, go into Darc's skills menu and learn his
Sword of Awakening, along with Steal.  If you have enough SP left, learn
Raise Spirits.  If you leveled up to 9 and didn't spend any SP before now,
you should have enough for all three, or bare minimum, for the Sword and
Steal skills.  Now for the combat itself.  Move away from the stairs as
much as you can.  This will keep the Drakyr from jumping you.  Densimo will
definitely come after you, while Geedo may or may not join him.  If you
moved to the very bottom left corner, you should be able to get away with
killing Densimo before Geedo arrives.  Once you're done, go back to the
stairs to lure in Geedo and kill her.  Use your new Claws of Rage and
physical attacks, then go for the Drakyr.  Use the Sword of Awakening if
you want, but they're just Drakyr, after all.  After you kill Densimo and
Geedo, you've essentially won, so just mop up.

=== End Battle ===

This is the end of the chapter, so just watch the cutscene.  Does anyone
else get the feeling Darc will become less than a moral soul?  Anyway,
save or don't when given the opportunity, and continue on.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4c. Chapter 2:  Kharg's Story - Setting Out
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Watch the cutscene and wince at Kharg's horrible speech.  When you regain
control, talk to Nafia or Duncan (doesn't matter).  Go down the steps when
they're done talking and converse with Paulette and Maru.  When they're
done wasting your time, go into town.  Rather than go straight to Nafia,
hit the pub and talk to the nutcase on the second floor.  Listen to his
story and accept his quest (or don't, it's optional).  When you're ready,
go to Kharg's house and talk to Nafia.

When all the cutscenes are done, go to the pub and reclaim Maru into your
party.  Go inside the pub and talk to Duncan to be assigned another task
(this one is eventually required, so accept it now).  Then go to the main
gate to have Paulette join you and send you to your next employer: Banjo.
Talk to him to get another job (which is also mandatory) then leave town.
Depending on which quest you want to do first, you should leave via either
the main gate or the castle ruins.  I like to do optional quests first, so
leave via the castle ruins.

I'd recommend leveling up a little, since Paulette will probably be fairly
weak compared to your other party members.  This also has the added benefit
of padding your wallet so you can buy those ever-elusive accessories and
weapons (along with herbs and other items) When you're ready, go to the
Edge of a Sea of Trees if you plan on doing the strange guy's sidequest.
Otherwise, go straight to Plumb Canyon.

If you're doing the optional sidequest, go to the right side of the map
and check the smaller rock there.  You'll send yourself straight into
battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Optional Battle - Sidequesty Goodness
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 7
Paulette - 6
Maru - 6

Remember those squirrels from the beginning of the game?  They're back,
and they brought their black cousins (as in literally black).  They end
up grouping themselves often, so use that to your advantage.  A single
special move will waste any of them (though the Kuskles might survive)
though I'd recommend sticking with normal attacks.  Don't rush in or
they'll surround and kick your ass.  Even the regular squirrels hit
pretty hard, so take them on no more than two at a time if you can.

=== End Battle ===

There's nothing else to do here, so leave and go back to Yewbell (unless
you opted to skip the sidequest, in which case go to the next battle).
Give the old pot to that nut job in the pub to gain a little insight into
the spirits, then he'll let you keep the pot (gee, thanks).  Actually,
you'll gain a stone holder, which increases the maximum amount of spirit
stones you can hold.  Put it on whoever you want, it doesn't really
matter.  Since we're right next to it, hit Scrappe Plateau next (again,
unless you didn't do the sidequest, in which case skip ahead).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 10 - The Squirrels Were Harder
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 8
Paulette - 7
Maru - 7

Ohh, so easy!  First off, have Maru use his Venom Arrow technique on one
of the bandits so it strikes three of them.  This should weaken two (and
hit the boss) so you can kill half of them fairly quickly.  Take out the
boss first in order to get his loot, then finish off the rest.  This one's
a cakewalk, so take it at your leisure.

=== End Battle ===

Head back to Yewbell's pub to finish up this little mini-quest.  When you're
done watching the cutscenes, go to Plumb Canyon for your last mission.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 11 - Attack of the...Shellfish?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 8
Paulette - 7
Maru - 8

There's a reason I listed this one last.  You're outnumbered nearly 4-1
in this fight, so you have to be extra-careful (and hopefully powerful).
The wooden box has a nice item, but if you don't feel safe wasting turns
on it, don't bother.  Have Maru shoot one of the gunpowder barrels to
kill one of the shells in a single turn.  Hopefully the shells will stay
close to the other barrel so you can get two.  Otherwise just take it
slow and heal when necessary.  If you're poisoned, use Maru's Antidote
Treatment skill or the appropriate curative item.  Realistically, this
battle isn't horribly difficult, especially if you're at my levels.  It
is fairly challenging if you go here straight at the beginning of the
chapter, though.

=== End Battle ===

When the short scene's over, examine the blue machine to get rid of the
oil, then leave the area and return to Yewbell.  Take a moment to level
up if you want, then talk to Zed inside the bar.  You'll be given a new
mission, so heal, save, and buy what you need.  By this time you should
have enough spare cash for a coating to put on someone's weapon (either
Paulette or Maru, since Kharg's strong without one) along with an
Aiming Device for Maru.  Leave Yewbell when you're ready.  Make sure
everyone is at level 9, bare minimum.  10 wouldn't be a bad idea.  You're
about to fight three battles in a row with no chance to save, so you
really don't want to lose.

Dragon Bone Valley is way the hell out of the way, so you'll likely
run into a few random battles before you arrive.  Run if you'd rather
not fight at the moment, but get to the valley eventually.  Watch the
cutscene when you arrive, then walk up and examine the body.  You'll
be treated to a brief cutscene with voice work, then more text boxes.
Once it's over, it's time for another battle with your old buddies,
the Drakyr.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 12 - I Hate Defense Missions
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 10
Paulette - 9
Maru - 9

I really hate defense missions.  Lilia can't take much punishment, so
stick by her to distract the Drakyr, and kill them all as fast as you can.
Pull out all the stops for this one, just because keeping Lilia alive is
a real pain.  You should know how to deal with Drakyr by now, so have at it.
Use every skill in your inventory, and if Lilia takes damage, have someone
heal her right away.

=== End Battle ===

You'll automatically return to the world map.  Head towards Yewbell, and
don't be surprised if you're stopped on the way in Isulo Forest.  Watch
the scene, then run across the bridge for another scene.  After it ends,
you'll gain an ally and run headfirst into battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 13 - Snipers?  In a Medieval Setting?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 10
Paulette - 9
Maru - 9
Ganz - 9

A word on your new party member: he's a tank.  Give him a couple herbs,
and he'll fight all day long.  This battle requires you to destroy the
post holding up the bridge, otherwise you'll have to start over.  Kill
the attack dogs first, I cannot stress that enough.  Their attacks do
tons of damage, so make sure they die first.  Once they're gone, pick
off the remaining enemies, but make damn sure you destroy that post.
After it's down, kill the commander to pick up the very expensive
Amethyst Coating item.  DO NOT kill the commander before destroying
the bridge post, otherwise the battle will restart.

===End Battle==

Talk to your party, then talk to Ganz.  Ask him about his past (if you
want) then leave.  He'll be back.  Make sure to heal up before you leave.
You'll have another battle at the Scrappe Plateau.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 14 - Now they have Hovercraft?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 11
Paulette - 10
Maru - 10

By this time you should have Paulette's Stinging Rain.  If not, you should
get it soon.  Once again, handle the attack dogs first.  There's no bridge
to destroy, so take out the commander and take his Broken Sword as soon as
possible.  It's worth a whopping 1200 gold at the shops, so definitely get
it.  Attack and use techs at your disposal.  The metal drums both have
items, so snag what you can, but definitely get that Broken Sword.

=== End Battle ===

Cue another scene, along with a sexy femme scientist in a beret.  Spank me!
She's not a good guy, though.  Oh well...anyway, watch the scene and check
out Kharg's response to Tatjana's orders for the heroes.  Before leaving,
check Kharg's skills.  He can use magic now, and if you haven't already
spent your skill points, you should have enough for both spells (or at
least Wind Slasher).  When you're through, go to Yewbell at last!

SAVE!  Don't bother healing or filling up your spirit stones yet, as
Paulette isn't in the party.  Sell off the Broken Sword and use the cash
to buy Good Herbs and some regular ones, plus some other stuff you might
need.  By now you should be able to afford an Amethyst Coating for
everyone, not including the one you got from the previous fights.  When
you're ready, go and talk to Nafia in Kharg's house for a scene.  On a
side note, how the hell does Kharg's ponytail float like that?!

When the lengthy scene is finished, leave the house and go to the castle
ruins for a sample of Lilia's musical talent with the coolest instrument
ever.  Run up to her to trigger another lengthy scene, then go back to
Kharg's house and talk to Nafia when you're able.  The next morning, go
to the front door and talk to your buddies, then leave.  Next stop, back
to Dragon Bone Valley.  But first, talk to Zed.  Ask about repairing the
airship, then the control parts.  First thing's first, we gotta loot that
old airship over at Scrappe Plateau.

Unfortunately, as you may have figured out the first time you went there,
the airship and control parts are out of reach.  You need to provide power
to the control panel in order to reach the control parts.  Now, you could
ask around Yewbell and one of the residents would provide you a clue as
to where to go, but this is a FAQ and walkthrough, is it not?  Go to
Plumb Canyon.

No battles this time.  Lucky!  The battery you seek is near the big blue
machine you manipulated to get rid of the shellfish.  Take it, then go
back to Scrappe Plateau.  Remember, you have to put the battery in its
proper place before working the controls.  Simply turn the lever and
grab the now-accessible control parts.  Return to Yewbell and retrieve
Lilia, then head to Dragon Bone Valley at last.

Naturally, it's not that easy.  You'll be stopped automatically in Isulo
Forest.  The bridge is fixed, so go across and continue on.  At the
valley, Ganz will be there to help you with this airship dealy.  Told
you he'd be back.  After the scene, you'll be on the bridge (I assume)
of the airship.  Save if you want, then take advantage of the free
healing (the door that isn't the exit).  Talk to Ganz and tell him
you're ready (assuming you are ready).  For whatever reason, Nafia will
show up after the cutscene.  Go out and talk to her, then speak with
Ganz again to get moving.  Do what he says and check the green thing
Paulette's standing in front of, then head for Aldrow.  Watch the really
ugly airship take off, then talk to your party and Lilia for a cutscene.

I won't spoil anything, but I will say it seems like airships are ugly
the world over.  When you regain control, save and leave the ship.
Immediately you'll be welcomed to the area by some Orcon idiots.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 15 - Dumbest.  Orcons.  Ever.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 12
Paulette - 11
Maru - 11
Ganz - 9

Try to let Ganz handle most of them, as he'll probably have the lowest
level in your party.  This battle is incredibly easy, trust me.  These
guys couldn't pose a threat even if they had twice their numbers.

=== End Battle ===

Take advantage of your airship's amenities and heal/save before setting
out.  Head south and left as much as you can to get to the next screen and
yet another battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 16 - Don't They Ever Give Up?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 12
Paulette - 11
Maru - 11
Ganz - 10

Fairly standard stuff after your three-battles-in-a-row stunt earlier,
except you're outnumbered 2-1 with fairly powerful enemies.  Split your
party in half to deal with the enemies on two fronts.  Use whoever you
want on either front, but try to send Ganz against as many enemies as
possible to raise his levels.  Don't forget to heal if you take too many
hits.

=== End Battle ===

Go back to the airship to heal and save.  This time go to the right and
south, and you'll eventually run into more Dilzweld soldiers.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 17 - I Guess Not.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 12
Paulette - 12
Maru - 11
Ganz - 11

Nothing new, to tell the truth.  The only difference is the presence of
a commander and less grunts.  Kill the commander first (or make sure you
don't kill him last) in order to pick up his Amethyst Coating.  Other
than that, you're probably powerful enough to do this one by the numbers.

=== End Battle ===

You'll be thrust into a pretty cool cutscene and be introduced to one weird
gunslinger.  When it's all over, you'll be sent to the world map.  Take the
left path to get to the 'secret' hideout.  Talk to the guy on the bridge
and pick either password (both have the same result) then go down into the
hold of the ship.  Talk to Samson, then save and leave when the scene's
done.  Just go straight to Cathena on the world map.  No random battles
necessary.

You'll like Cathena.  The accessories are a step up from the ones you have
currently, so upgrade if you have the cash.  Go for the armbands first,
since defense is always welcome.  The only downside is healing here is
quadruple what you paid in Ragnoth.  The building to the northwest of the
healing girl is your destination.  Talk to the guard to enter.  Fool around
inside if you want, but eventually go through the big archway north of the
elevator on the first floor.

This is a chapter-ending cutscene, so if you wanted to do other stuff before
going through the archway, you'll have to wait till chapter 3.  Anyway,
watch the very lifelike model of government the World Alliance has, then
save when prompted.  We're finally going back to Darc and gang!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4d. Chapter 2:  Darc's Story - Ambition
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You'll be treated to a sparring match between two nobody Orcons when the
chapter starts.  After the cutscene ends, leave the arena and hit the shops.
The guy's got new stuff for you, so buy what you want.  I'd focus on defense
before getting the coatings.  When you're ready, go to the dungeon, which
is located near the Deimos guard (who is in turn near the stairs leading
into town).  Talk with Delma, then leave Orcoth and go to the church.
Once there, inspect the Firble nest for a short cutscene.  Leave, and
return to Orcoth.  Go to the Arena for a scene, and a battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 18 - One on One?  No Contest!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 10

Go straight for him and use Wind Slasher to start.  He'll likely use
Heated Soul first round to make himself stronger.  If you feel confident,
use the second round to run up and steal from him (assuming you have the
skill) then run as far away as possible and use Wind Slasher.  His regular
attack is exceptional with Heated Soul in effect, so you don't want to
fight head-on, especially considering this guy has better defense than you.
Just make sure to start the battle with a lot of herbs and you'll survive.

=== End Battle ===

Watch the cutscene and gain a party member.  Leave the arena, then talk
to Zugalo at the dungeon.  Go down and talk to Delma to get her back into
your party.  Unfortunately, she's now your weakest member.  Equip the
Blood Anklet on her and buy her a Leather Armband so her defense isn't so
poor.  Leave, but talk with the green Deimos near the entrance before you
do.  You might want to level up before going to your next destination,
Asheeda forest.  In fact, I recommend it.  Anyway, once you get there,
it's battle time.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 19 - These Guys Just Don't Learn...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 10
Delma - 8
Volk - 10

You're outnumbered...just barely.  These guys are simple, but don't let
Delma go up against one by herself.  She's still weaker than the others,
and has poor defense to boot.  Just take them out with regular attacks.
Finish off the commander before the others for a First Aid Kit.

=== End Battle ===

Go to the Big Owl.  You should know where it is by now.  You'll run into
more soldiers when you get there.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 20 - Deja Vu...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 11
Delma - 8
Volk - 11

Pretty much the same battle.  Do the same as before.  Kill the commander
to get a Stone Coating.  Nothing much to say here...

=== End Battle ===

Unfortunately you can't use the airship to heal.  The next battle is down
and to the right, familiarly enough.  Watch the cutscene, then fight.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 21 - What is it About a Woman in a Lab Coat?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 11
Delma - 9
Volk - 11

First thing's first: Tatjana has two items: one she drops, and one you
can steal.  You can't get both.  If this is your first time through the
game, let her drop the Gorgeous Ring, which gives you double the gold
dropped.  If you kill Tatjana first and equip the ring before killing
the commander, he'll drop a whopping amount of gold!  Don't bunch up
your characters, and go in swinging.  If Delma has her Fire Storm spell,
use it liberally when the enemy groups together.

=== End Battle ===

Tatjana will escape, naturally.  Hot girls don't die so easily.  Watch
the cutscene, then when you regain control, simply go up and right.
Another cutscene ensues, along with an event you were likely expecting.
The cutscenes will take a while, so sit back and relax.  When they're
done, exit the area and go back to Asheeda Forest to get Volk.  Then,
go back to Orcoth.

Delma will get what's coming to her...in a way.  Wait for the scenes to
end, then leave the arena.  Another cutscene ensues, then you're free to
heal and hit the shops.  There's some new stuff to buy, so use your new
bankroll to get some weapons and armor, as well as replenish any herbs
you may have used.  Go to the dungeon and talk to Lilia, then leave when
you're able.  You'll speak with your party, then you're off to find a
way off the continent.  Shades of Kharg...

Anyway, first leave Orcoth and go to the church.  Visit your newly-hatched
Firble, then leave to talk to Gorma.  He's in the big train car in the south
part of Orcoth if you forgot.  Watch the cutscene, then ask about all the
stuff you need to know about raising Pyrons.  You should know that Geedo
has one of the ingredients we need: the phoenix blood.  So let's go get it.

That chest Geedo had is now open, so snag the phoenix blood and watch this
new spirit show up to automatically hand you a sidequest.  When it's all
over, leave and go to Tindalos Woods for the next item, a Rebound fruit.
Now, you basically have to fight random battles against the Crimson Rhokes
until you get it.  I got one on my first try, but I'm lucky like that.
You might have to fight a battle or two before you get it.  Also, the Rhokes
do not (I repeat, do not) drop the Rebound fruit as an item.  After the
screen showing the experience and skill points you got, you will receive
a message saying you acquired the fruit (if you got it, that is).

Go to the church to unload your items, then return to Orcoth to see Gorma.
Unfortunately, he's out.  Go to the dungeon for a cutscene of Lilia and
that badass harp thingy.  Too bad Darc the philistine puts a stop to it...
Wait for the cutscene to end, talk to Lilia, then leave.  Talk to the
merchant Quorup, who has the Fire Fragment you need.  Too bad he's charging
you an arm and a leg for it.  Fork over the 500G necessary, or if you don't
have it, go out and fight random battles till you do.  Go back to the
church when you're ready.  Feed the Firble, then return to Orcoth.

Okay, someone threw a party when we weren't looking.  Talk to the Quorup
merchant to figure out what went down, then go to the arena.  Wait for
the cutscene to end, then buy all the items and/or weapons you need, then
save and leave.  You're going to the Varam Barrens.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 22 - Good Lord, That's Ugly!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 12
Delma - 11
Volk - 12

Start off by shredding the breakables, as there's some really good stuff
in the boxes.  Use Delma to cast Speed Up as soon as possible, and have
Volk cast Heated Soul so you can take out the minor enemies the Argewalt
will spawn.  Make damn sure to steal from the Argewalt, because it holds
an item to increase your max HP.  Take out the small fry and use Sword of
Awakening (after stealing from it) on the Argewalt.  Try to be quick about
this battle, otherwise you'll have to deal with a ton of those smaller
monsters.  They're not that strong, but there will be a lot of them in no
time flat.  The Witch Plants might poison you, in which case use Refresh
to get yourself back up to speed.  You just need to kill the Argewalt to
win, so once you steal from it, take it out.

=== End Battle ===

Watch the ugly airship take off, along with a cutscene.  You'll gain a
party member out of that ugly head that was inside the Argewalt.  Leave
and go to Orcoth.  Talk to Gorma for a cutscene.  Go to the church for
another cutscene, then go to the spot where you flew around with Delma
last chapter.  You'll be transported to another continent.

Despite the urgency of Camellia's words, go to Rueloon first.  They've
got new weapons and armor that'll help a lot.  Fight around if you don't
have enough, and use that Gorgeous Ring to boost the money you get.  The
ring only doubles the money when the character wearing the ring kills the
monster, so remember that.  I put it on Darc, since he makes the most
kills.

Once in Rueloon, go nuts.  Sell off those old stone coatings and get
Amethyst ones.  Before you do, though, buy new weapons for Darc and Delma.
Those two alone will likely wipe out your bank account, so go back and
fight for more cash if need be.  Be sure to get an Aiming Device for
Camellia, as she needs it.  Definitely get the Armored Swallowtail for
her as well, as it'll compensate for her weak defense.  If you really
want, buy some Thorns of Revenge for your fighters, but I didn't bother,
seeing as it's another 720G to raise.  If you're going to go for the
big money, use your newfound Pyron to heal, as they charge 40G in the inn
at Rueloon.  I'd actually suggest putting a Thorn of Revenge on whoever's
got the Gorgeous Ring equipped so you increase their chances of dealing
the finishing blow and getting a lot of money.

There's two things you should do before you go.  The first is to go to a
small alley to the left of the stairs in the middle of town.  You'll find
another ancient tablet.  Further down the alley is a Coleopt woman.  Buy
a Coleopt Froth or two for the coming battle.  When you're ready, go to
the Coleopt Shrine.

Once there, talk around if you want, but ultimately go to the shrine at
the far side of town.  Force your way in...to a battle, that is.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 23 - Eww, I Hate Bug Men...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 15
Delma - 13
Volk - 13
Camellia - 15

I overleveled a bit when raising money, so don't feel worried if you're
a level or three behind me.  These guys come pretty standard, except for
their ability to drain a skill from you.  You start out all bunched up,
so use Heated Soul and Speed Up right away.  Make sure the spells affect
everyone.  These guys aren't that tough, save for their ability to lower
your skill level, meaning you won't be able to use your more powerful
spells and skills.  Use the Coleopt Froth to cure this affliction.  Really,
these guys are weak compared to you.  At my levels, I took them out
before they could use their skill drain ability.

=== End Battle ===

That Coleopt girl that sold the Froths in Rueloon is back in town and sells
additional items, but no precious herbs.  Go inside the shrine when you're
ready.  Walk up the pathway to see a cutscene with a tentacle, then continue
on.  There will be another cutscene, then your old friends will show up.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 24 - So Much for Military Intelligence
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 15
Delma - 14
Volk - 13
Camellia - 15

You know what to do.  The commander in the back drops a Broken Sword
(which is worth a lot of money, remember?) so take him out and snag it
before killing the last enemy.  Once again you start out bunched up, so
take advantage and cast some stat boosters to get you going, then charge!

=== End Battle ===

Continue on to the next room for a cutscene.  You'll enter another battle
when it's over.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 25 - I Wrote a Battle Section on This?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 16
Delma - 14
Volk - 14

Good lord, after all this time you shouldn't even need my help for this.
Just kill the commander first to pick up the item he drops.  You'll go
directly into another battle after this one.

=== End Battle ===

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 26 - Eeek!  The Undead!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 16
Delma - 14
Volk - 14

Okay, these guys can put up a fight.  You still hold the advantage of
numbers, so use it.  Pick a skeleton and gang up on it.  These guys are
incredibly strong, though.  Use Volk's Guard Field to up your allies'
defense before charging in.  The bone men can also use magic to reduce
your attack power, so use Heated Soul when necessary.  Make sure to
heal when needed, because these guys do pack a punch.  Use magic if they
reduce your attack power and Volk runs out of spirit stones.

=== End Battle ===

Watch the cutscene with Bebedora, then go to where she says and pull the
lever.  You'll see another cutscene, and gain the screwball as a party
member.  Bebedora has a low-cost mind control spell that can come in
handy, so don't neglect it.

Now, there are three chests in this room that all contain a crapload of
good stuff.  The first is down the staircase where you first pulled the
lever.  The second is down the staircase to the right of the save point.
The third and final is to the left of the area you first came in from.
They're all easy to find, so if my directions aren't enough, just wander
around a bit.  There's an Ancient Tablet on the path leading to the right
of the entrance.  It's not hard to spot, it's the only bit of brown in
the room besides the chests.  Once you're ready, heal up and go back to
the save point.  That big, tall door looks important, doesn't it?  Go on
through.  Watch the cutscene, regain Camellia as a party member, then fight!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 27 - What is this, a Hentai Movie?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 16
Delma - 15
Volk - 14
Camellia - 15
Bebedora - 16

Before you rush off and start, put those three Water Balms you got on
your three fastest party members.  Use them on Darc, Delma, and Volk,
as Selkis uses water-based attacks, and they'll likely be your frontline
fighters against her.  Starting out, raise your speed and attack (and
defense if you're able) then work on the tentacles.  They have massive
HP, but low defense, so just move your party as a group against them
one at a time.  The tentacles will spawn enemies, but not at the rate
the Argewalt did.  Abuse Bebedora's mind control ability and take control
of the Coleopt (not the weak-ass larva) and use them to assist in your
cause.  Bebedora's Black Out spell should also be abused, as it does a
crapload of damage to the tentacles (around 90!)  Once the tentacles are
all down, move in on Selkis.  Don't rush in, but rather wait at the foot
of the stairs to take out her Coleopt guards first.  When they're done
for, move in Darc, Delma and Volk.  Let Camellia provide healing, and
Bebedora the odd Black Out spell or two, and you should take her down
in no time.  As a final note, she has nothing to steal, so don't waste
turns trying.  Don't group up, whatever you do.  Her water attacks have
nasty areas of effect.

=== End Battle ===

Watch the chapter-ending cutscene and save when prompted.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4e. Chapter 3:  Kharg's Story - Conflict
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You'll return to Cathena (actually, you never left) and view round 2 of
Democracy At Work.  Quite frankly, it's too close to the real thing and
that scares me.  When you gain control of Kharg, follow the delegate and
talk to her.  When the scene's over and done with, exit out the south
door, since marching boy there is blocking the way you came in.  Rather
than leave immediately, go back to the council room and take the upper
right door.  The Spirit Dictionary 2 is sitting on the table in that room.
It might be a little hard to spot, but it's on the south end.  When that's
done with, leave the building entirely.  You'll be stopped briefly before
you can actually escape.

Once outside, talk to Ganz.  The arena is the bigass building on the west
side of town.  You can't miss it, it's huge.  Talk to the mercenaries for
a scene.  Say you're ready when asked.  You can try fighting in the arena,
but it's likely you're far too weak to get through it.  It's a good place
to gain levels, though, since you fight one at a time, letting a single
person gain a lot of experience.  Leave when you're ready.

The Big Owl isn't in Asheeda anymore, rather it's just to the right of
Cathena.  I actually had a cloud pass over the world map and didn't see
it at first, but it's there.  Save if you want, then go to Epistia.

Go to Sulfas, and be stopped on the highway.  Run right up to the checkpoint
and talk to the meat popsicle guarding the only way through.  Answer the
first three questions however you want (and notice the guard thinks Paulette
is a man!) but for the final question, pick the third (or last) choice.  If
you don't, you'll go into a battle.  It's nothing special, just those same
Dilzweld jackasses you've spanked time and time again.  You'll be sent to
the world map after the battle, or after you answer the final question
correctly.  Either way, hit Sulfas.

Ohhh, scary soldier men!  Watch the short cutscene, then go into town.
Healing costs an exorbitant 60G here, which sucks.  Further, the equipment
shop is off-limits for the time being.  There's not much to do yet.  The
save point is in the other open building, but that shop is closed, too.

Where you want to go is a building on the left side of town.  The door's
a little hard to see, so just run along the wall till you slip in.  Talk
to the guy behind the counter and watch Kharg's l33t subtlety skillz.
Go back to ye olde equipment shop and watch the cutscene, then leave.
The man you want is hiding not so secretly southwest of the equipment
store.  Just look for a guy hiding behind a building, and you'll find him.
Jaqual will sell you items, but don't spend your money just yet and ask
about the Resistance.  Go to the pub now and talk to four-eyes again.
The guy reading the rules will walk off, presumably to rat on you to the
Dilzweld army.  Go to where he was standing and read the rules.  The one
you want is number seven.  Press the button, then go inside.  You'll see
a cutscene, then you'll be free to move around.  Go and talk to Zev for
another cutscene.  When it's all over, you'll be free to leave, as well
as buy new stuff.  The new stuff includes Traitor's Souls, which are
basically much more powerful Thorns of Revenge.  You'll also want the new
Steel Armbands, but they're almost as expensive (750G per armband!)  Buy
what you can, but focus on defense over anything else.  Don't bother with
the Traitor's Souls if you don't feel like raising 2500G.  Leave town.

Now you'll have two choices on where to go.  Unfortunately, you have to
pass through the Kassim Highway first, and the army's waiting for you there.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 28 - No one...disses...the clothes!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 13
Paulette - 12
Maru - 12
Ganz - 11

There's a ton of these guys!  I guess they finally got the hint that two
men can't stop you.  Unfortunately, they didn't learn not to bunch themselves
up.  Let Maru teach them a lesson with his skills.  You can hit a whopping
six of these guys in your first turn with his Venom Arrow.  Paulette can
mop up with her Stinging Rain.  Don't be too quick to polish off these guys,
however.  The two steel boxes on the north side hold a few goodies you don't
want to pass up.  Remember to kill the commander before finishing off the
last few grunts.  Like all the others, he has an item for you.  Definitely
break open the box on the left, as it holds the very useful Reiki leaf.

=== End Battle ===

Return to Sulfas if you want, and if you have enough cash to buy another
steel armband, I'd recommend it.  Next is the mission to take back the
city.  You can go to either area first, but I went to the mines to start.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 29 - What's Mine is Mine
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 13
Paulette - 13
Maru - 13
Ganz - 12

There are new critters here called Gun Traps.  They start out bunched up
in such a way that Maru can use his Venom Arrow and severely weaken them
right off the bat.  There's also the new Gunner beastie, which has less
HP but is faster.  Really, this is a pretty easy battle due to the various
Gun robots' low HP.  None of the destructables have anything, so just take
them all out as fast as you can.  Leave at least one of the gun things
alive so you can keep whatever the Dilzweld soldiers drop.  It's nothing
special, but they might have some gold for you.

=== End Battle ===

You'll have a short victory cutscene before leaving.  You should have enough
for another steel armband, so go back to Sulfas and buy one.  Even if you
don't, go back and heal/fill spirit stones/save.  Your next stop is the ruins.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 30 - This Army Sucks.  Really.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 13
Paulette - 13
Maru - 14
Ganz - 12

Okay, this time around there's less machinery and more soldiers.  The
scrap mountains are the only things with prizes inside, and they're not
really that good.  Once again the commander has an item for you, so kill
him quick and take it.

=== End Battle ===

Instead of leaving straight away, explore a little.  Hidden off-screen to
the left is a small mechanical man.  Keep hitting X till you talk to him.
Say you don't believe him to get a Shadow Talisman.  Explore further if you
want, but there's nothing to be found besides some kitchen appliances.
Afterwards, leave.

Return to Sulfas.  Buy a steel armband if possible.  I had enough for a
fourth at this point, but I got lucky with enemies dropping money.  Anyway,
once you have four, your mission should be to get some Traitor's Souls,
along with the general herbs and other items you might need.  Rather than
talk to Spencer to get the party started, simply walk through the previously
locked gate for a scene and a battle.  Make sure to save beforehand.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 31 - Do they Train to Lose this Badly?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 14
Paulette - 14
Maru - 14
Ganz - 13

There's not much to say, really.  There's no items inside the destructables,
so don't waste time breaking them.  Oh yeah, the commander drops that oh so
useful Broken Sword, so be sure to get it.  Really, you'd think the Dilzweld
would train better after losing probably half their army in battle to you.

=== End Battle ===

Instead of leaving right away, go off through the door to the left.  There's
a sparkling panel to the north that you can inspect.  Do so three times for
a funny scene.  Walk across the main walkway (the wide one you arrived at)
then turn to the left at the end and follow that path.  You'll find volume 3
of the Spirit Dictionary.  Now leave.

The tool shop to the left of the main plant now has Sapphire Coatings, of
which you should buy as many as you can afford.  The equipment shop (where
you scared off that Dilzweld soldier) now has Great Herbs.  Buy as many
Sapphire Coatings as possible, then sink your money into the new herbs.
When you're ready, go talk to Spencer.  Watch the cutscenes, then leave
town and go to the mountain.  Who wants to bet those jackasses will get
themselves killed?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 32 - Lotta Bodies Lying Around
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 14
Paulette - 15
Maru - 15
Ganz - 13

Surprisingly enough, this battle doesn't involve you killing everything
that moves.  You must rescue the three Resistance members, which simply
involves walking up to them and pressing X (as if to talk with them).
Scout out the map before starting and find all three first.  There are
two directly in front of where you start, just past some stairs.  The
third is to the northwest.  Use Kharg to get that one, as he's your most
mobile character.  Take advantage of Kharg's healing magic while avoiding
fire from those big guns.  Try to stay out of their range, otherwise
they'll do some serious damage.  Take out enemies as you go, but remember
all you have to do is talk to all three Resistence members to rescue them
and end this battle.

=== End Battle ===

Return to Sulfas and talk to Spencer.  When the scene is done, go to the
main plant and head to the big hanger to the left.  Talk to Spencer there
and watch the cutscene, then be thrust headlong into a fetch quest.  You
have to go right back to the ruins and the mine to pick up the stuff you
need.  Go to the ruins first.

The parts you need are inside the computer, microwave, and radio.  They're
not that hard to find.  Try to leave, and you'll be stopped by...the
Shinobi Gang???

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 33 - So Where's Naruto, Huh?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 15
Paulette - 15
Maru - 15
Ganz - 14

You outnumber and outgun them.  You shouldn't need my help for this.  Kill
the red ninja first, as he has some loot for you.  Take out only one other
ninja, then leave the last one as you break open the three scrap piles for
more loot.  Once you're done, finish off the last idiot and leave.

=== End Battle ===

Go to the mines now.  The elevator that wasn't there the last time has
magically reappeared.  Take it down to a lower level, and fight.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 34 - I Feel so Gassy...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 15
Paulette - 15
Maru - 15
Ganz - 14

This time you're outnumbered, but not outgunned.  These clouds' best ability
is to paralyze your party members, but Paulette and Maru should have the
Refresh ability to cure that.  They don't drop anything special, and there's
no breakables around, so just finish them quick.

=== End Battle ===

There's a detonator in the northwest corner of the map (on the second level).
Use it, and you'll gather enough spirit stones necessary.  They actually show
up in your party's spirit stones, so in the end you keep a few for your
troubles.  Once back in Sulfas, buy at least two Aquamarines (preferably one
for each party member).  They'll come in handy later.  Go back and talk to
Spencer when you're ready.  Watch the cutscene, then go to the mountain
stronghold one more time.  Let's rumble.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 35 - It's Payback Time!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 15
Paulette - 16
Maru - 16
Ganz - 15

I sort of over-leveled when trying to get more money for supplies, so don't
worry if you're below my levels.  Anyway, on to the strategy!  Whatever you
do, don't walk into the cannon's range yet!  Use Kharg and summon the Big Owl
to lay a beam-cannon smackdown on those big guns.  One summoning will destroy
one cannon, so use your first two turns to take them both out.  After that,
simply slaughter the rest of these jerks.  There's more enemies than during
your rescue mission, but these are the same idiots that you've been killing
for the last couple chapters.

=== End Battle ===

Leave the area and go back to Sulfas.  Technically you're supposed to continue
on, but why not spend a few of your spoils and get yourself healed and save?
If you didn't get any Aquamarines yet, buy at least one, then pour your money
into good and great herbs.  When you're ready, return to the mountain
stronghold.  Go up the stairs next to the left cannon, then up more stairs to
the right, and head inside.  Naturally, you'll be ambushed.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 36 - Ambush?  Naturally!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 16
Paulette - 16
Maru - 16
Ganz - 15

You're surrounded, so pick a side and take out whoever's in your way.
The box nearby has the Fireproof Gloves accessory, so don't leave without
it.  The commander's back, and he's got a Sapphire Coating on his person.
If you didn't manage to buy four for your party, now's your chance to get
one for free.  Even if you did get four, it's good to sell at shops.
In any case, Maru should use this opportunity to practice his arrow skills
when the enemies inevitably bunch up.  Honestly, more of my time in this
battle was spent running around and picking up spoils than fighting.

=== End Battle ===

You'll be treated to a cutscene.  As Paulette is the only person who can
equip the Fireproof Gloves, put them on her (and marvel at how gloves
can provide so much defensive power).  You can actually go all the way
back to Sulfas again, and I would recommend it to heal up without spending
any of your precious herbs.  Definitely get an Aquamarine or two now, or
if you have four already, buy whatever you want.

Return to the stronghold and go down the elevator.  There will be a lengthy
cutscene before you regain control.  Follow the path, then when it splits,
take the right road for a chest.  Put the Red Charm accessory on one of the
guys (since Paulette has the Fireproof Gloves).  Now take the left road,
then take the right path when the trail splits again for another chest.
Finally, go down the elevator and prepare for battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 37 - Is it Hot in Here, or is it Me?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 16
Paulette - 17
Maru - 17
Ganz - 16

Remember those Aquamarines?  Now's the time to equip them.  Definitely
put one on Paulette, as she'll be your most useful fighter in this battle.
if you have four, equip one to each party member.  With Aquamarines,
this battle won't be overly difficult.  Watch out for their fire attacks,
however, as they're nothing to sneeze at.  Keep your party healed, and
let Paulette absorb most of the flames.  The red dragons should be tackled
last.  They have a regular attack that hits everything in front of them,
which means you shouldn't surround them.  Just be cautious and you should
be fine.

=== End Battle ===

Follow the path to another elevator.  Take it downstairs, then follow the
linear path to one more elevator.  Walk instead across the wooden bridge
for a chest and some items.  You'll get a Power Seed, which I recommend
saving for now.  Go back and take the elevator downstairs for another
battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 38 - It's Not Just Me, Is It?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 16
Paulette - 17
Maru - 17
Ganz - 16

Keep those Aquamarines handy.  There's a new enemy here, the Great Phoenix.
You can steal a Phoenix Tail Feather from each of them with Maru, so give
it a shot.  The two wooden boxes hold spoils, so break them both open and
get to looting.  The enemies are basically more of the same, so as long as
Paulette absorbs the fire attacks and you have those Aquamarines equipped,
just fight as per normal.  Make sure to break open the boxes, since one of
them holds another Fire Charm.

=== End Battle ===

By this time Kharg should be at spirit class 5, so learn either Resurrection
or Tornado, whichever you prefer (assuming you're both at the right class
level and have the necessary skill points).  I'd learn Resurrection, since
Maru and Paulette have the range attacks covered.  Anyway, go to the right
and follow the path to the elevator.  Go down, then run across the bridge
till you come to a split.  Take the left path and follow it to another
split, then continue on straight (or take the right path) open the chest
at the end of that path, then go back to the first fork and take the right
path.  You'll find a save point, so heal up and use it.  Go across the
bridge and through the door to continue.  There will be a scene with my
favorite-ist character, who finds herself in trouble!  Rescue her!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 39 - Deimos Need Bouncy-Bouncy Too!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 17
Paulette - 17
Maru - 18
Ganz - 17

Ignore the vaguely sexual innuendo, that's just wrong.  The three brothers
are powerhouses, so try to stay healed as much as you can.  Make sure to
let Maru steal from the last one you kill, as they all have some great
loot.  Tsee will charge you right out of the gate, so focus all your attacks
on him to take him out quick.  If you learned Maru's Binding Arrow, use it
to paralyze Tsee and have a really easy time of beating on him.  Use your
best skills and magic, and focus on one brother at a time to speed things
up.  Once one dies, the rest will follow even easier.  Definitely kill
Fulkrum second, as he has a fire attack that can hit your entire party
for big damage if you're bunched up.  Leave Tsaw for last, and if you're
lucky, all he'll do is either attack or shoot fire arrows at Paulette for
one measly damage point.  Try not to kill Tsaw before stealing his item,
really.  It's a great item for Maru that widens his attack range.

=== End Battle ===

Watch the cutscene (why must you be so mean, scientist-woman?) then go
get Tatjana and the Fire Stone.  Take the staircase to the left and
follow the path up to Tatjana.  Watch the cutscene, then when you regain
control, go back down the path till another cutscene takes over (in which
Kharg wins my award for STUPIDEST HERO EVER!  Then again, they all make
the switch first...)  Anyway, when the cutscenes are over, go back up and
talk to Tatjana (and your other party members if you want) then go talk
to Ganz to start another cutscene.  Talk to Tatjana one last time, then
go back to the rope ladder to start a chapter-ending cutscene.  Enjoy.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4f. Chapter 3:  Darc's Story - Love and Hate
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You'll begin in Rueloon again, at night time.  Do whatever you want, as
you can't leave.  Talk to the guy in the inn/pub to advance the story
(accept his offer of free room and board).  Watch the cutscene, then
leave and go to the arena.  There will be a lengthy cutscene, then you
must battle for the stones.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 40 - It's On, You Winged Freaks!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 17
Delma - 16
Volk - 15
Camellia - 15
Bebedora - 16

The Drakyr need no tips to beat.  They're virtually unchanged from before,
except for their slightly increased levels and stats.  Droguza is the one
to watch out for, since he can use Black Out (Bebedora's magic) and has
greater strength overall than the Drakyr.  One note, Droguza doesn't drop
anything, but you can steal a Swordsman's Blade from him, and should before
taking him out.  Once Droguza falls, the Drakyr will topple like dominos.
For even more fun, use Mind Control to take over the Drakyr and let them
absorb hits.  It's hilarious fun as Droguza uses Black Out to kill his own
troops!

=== End Battle ===

Afterwards, watch the cutscene.  Go back to the inn and talk to the same
guy to rest, then wake up and watch more cutscenes.  Leave, save your money
(and your game if you want) and return to the Pyron.  Fly to Ragnoth,
then go to the Drakyr city.  Surprisingly, you won't be going into a battle
yet.  The door straight ahead contains the shops, as well as new Sapphire
Coatings.  Before you buy them, though, get a Rabbit Stuffed Animal for
Bebedora to greatly increase her stats.  Buy as many Sapphire Coatings as
you can after that, and put them on Bebedora and Darc if you can only
afford two.  The shop also contains another Ancient Tablet on the right-hand
side of the shop.  It's in plain sight, so you can't miss it.

When you're ready, head to the right side of the village and head up.  You'll
be stopped along the way by an old man who'll show you where to go.  Go there
for a cutscene and instructions.  Agree to do the 'test,' then leave the
village and go to Dragon Bone Valley.  More Dilzweld stompin' time!

I'd recommend leveling up either before or after this battle, and make sure
Darc is at a high level, too.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 41 - Now That's An Army!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 18
Delma - 17
Volk - 16
Camellia - 16
Bebedora - 17

You're up against a lot of enemies this time.  The three attack dogs closest
will probably walk up toward you and inadvertantly bunch themselves together.
Delma's Fire Storm will teach them the error of their ways.  As before, the
dogs should die first due to their high attack power.  Destroy every box or
container on the map before killing the last enemy, as there's a bunch of
good stuff hidden there.  You may be outnumbered, but the enemy bunches up
a lot, so it's deceptively easy to use area magic and wipe them out.  Just
make sure not to leave the commander for last.  He has another broken sword
for you to bolster your bank account with.

=== End Battle ===

Walk down and around to the right to reach the cave.  Before going inside,
make damn sure you pick up the ancient tablet that's lying on the ground
(if you can't see it on top of all that snow, you need glasses).  You have
to get it now, because you can't later.  Head toward the cave for another
cutscene.  Alright, now, the upcoming battle is very tough if you're
not leveled enough, so leave the area if you're not confident about your
abilities.  Return to the Drakyr city or your Pyron for healing and a
save point, along with as many Great Herbs as you can buy (or up to eight),
then return to Dragon Bone Valley for fun times.

Walk inside the cave and up the stairs.  Grab the crown and walk back for
a cutscene with...well, your opponents.  You just might be screwed.  Better
be ready.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 42 - Now That's A...Oh, Crap, Dragons!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 19

Yes, you're all alone in this one.  Don't despair...unless your Darc is
at level 16 or less, then it's time to panic.  Before the battle, give
Darc as many of the best herbs you have, you'll need them.  There's an
extra wrinkle in this fight: both dragons are insanely powerful and tough
to beat.  They also both hold great items.  One must be stolen.  To that
end, use Sword Of Awakening (or Dragon Fang Sword if you have it...I didn't)
to damage them both if you can.  Focus on the silver one first, it's got
vicious breath.  Heal every other round, even if you've only lost a little HP.
Fortunately for you, the dragons don't have much in the way of HP themselves,
so two well-placed Swords of Awakening and a good attack will kill one.
These guys kicked my ass at level 19, so if you're any lower, exercise
extreme caution.  As a final note, make damn sure to steal the item from
the dragon you leave behind.  They're really that good.

=== End Battle ===

Watch the cutscene, leave the cave, and rejoice as you just took on two
dragons at once and won!  Return to Drakyrnia and visit the elder again.
You'll have a short cutscene before you get there, then a longer one with
the above-mentioned elder (notice how his mustache goes right through
his scarf?)  You'll get to ask Williwo about a lot of things, so take
advantage of that and get some interesting info (some of which you should
know by now).  Leave when you're done and watch Darc be annoyingly
obstinate...

Anyway, your next destination is Thunor Point, but obviously there's a
stop along the way.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 43 - Traitors must be Punished...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 19
Delma - 18
Volk - 18
Camellia - 16
Bebedora - 18

The commander doesn't have an item and there's good stuff in the boxes.
That's all you need to know.  Really, these guys are the same enemies
you've fought for a while now, so you should know how best to take care
of them.  The only downside is they only appear to be bunched up at first,
but you can't hit them all with Fire Storm...oh well.  There are permanent
stat boosters in the tree stump and steel box, so leave a Drakyr alive
and bust those open before ending this fight.  Do not let this fight end
without grabbing the Bountiful Fruit.  This powerful item actually raises
one character's level by 1 permanently, so you want it.  Trust me.

=== End Battle ===

No sooner does the cutscene end when you're thrust into another battle.
Before you start, use that Bountiful Fruit if you grabbed it.  Whoever
has the lowest level in your party (likely Camellia) should get it, but
if that person is close to leveling up naturally, wait for them to do so,
then give them the fruit.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 44 - Bridges and Bozos
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 20
Delma - 18
Volk - 18
Camellia - 16
Bebedora - 18

There's a few more enemies overall, so they might be able to chip away at
your party's HP without you realizing it.  There's also a couple gun traps,
but they're still weak little toaster ovens in disguise.  Don't spread your
forces out too thin, or you might be overwhelmed.  The steel box holds an
item, but it's not worth your time.

=== End Battle ===

Your exit is off to the right, so take it.  Rather than go straight to
Thunor Point, go back to the Drakyr village and heal/save, stock up on
any items you might want, then hit the Point.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 45 - Look Out, He Has Wings!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 20
Delma - 18
Volk - 18
Camellia - 17
Bebedora - 18

This battle wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for two things: there's
a Bountiful Fruit in one of the destructables, along with a couple good
items (including the Barbed Wire for Darc, which increases his sword's
attack range), and Droguza himself is holding a second fruit.  So here's
what you should do:

Rather than go full-on against Droguza and his men, send a couple of
your party members to smash open boxes and collect items while the rest
fight the real battle.  Camellia should be part of the main group since
she can provide healing, and naturally you'll want Darc since he can
steal the second Bountiful Fruit from Droguza.  The third can be whoever
you like, but I'd actually recommend Bebedora since she can use Black Out
to rid the field of Droguza's underlings quickly.  Don't try stealing
the fruit from Droguza until his subordinates are gone, obviously.  Once
it's stolen, unleash all your best moves on him and take him out.  If
you're being level-conscious, let your weakest party member (probably
Camellia) kill Droguza if it's feasible (like with her Earthquake spell).

As a final note, at the beginning of the battle it is possible to use a
Speed Up spell with Delma that'll affect your entire party, but it's a
little tough to get the positioning right.  It can be done, however.
Also, after the battle's over, don't use the Bountiful Fruit right away.
You'll want to save them for later.

=== End Battle ===

Watch the lengthy cutscene, then when you regain control of Darc, head
inside via the smaller door to the right of the big one.  Leave the room
via the only other exit on the other side, then keep moving for a brief
scene with a couple Dilzweld.  Now, go in the rightmost door for a chest
containing another Bountiful Fruit!  The room right next door has another
chest with some good stuff, and the third room is your destination.  Check
it, then when all the cutscenes are over, save your game and leave the room.
Go back to where you started, i.e. outside the ship.  Along the way you'll
run into a couple Dilzweld (the same guys?) and a battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 46 - Dumbest.  Dilzweld.  Ever.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 20

The only thing I can say is, kill one, then break open the steel box for a
Gale Headband.  Once that's done, kill off the other bozo.  You really
shouldn't need my help for this.  Equip the Barbed Wire on Darc before the
battle if you got it, it makes his range similar to Volk's.  Not that you
really need it, though.

=== End Battle ===

Watch the cutscene (dumb Dilzweld...) and heal/restore spirit stones if
needed.  You're off to Yewbell.  If you encounter any random battles, run.
You might be able to win, but after all this, you don't want to risk it.
When you get to Yewbell, talk to everyone, their responses are funny.
Go to Kharg's house and watch the very sad chapter-ending cutscene.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4g. Chapter 4:  Kharg's Story - Rage
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Talk to whoever you want, then go downstairs for a scene.  Go to Tatjana's
rescue (again...) then go talk to Samsom upstairs when you regain control.
The two guys you want are easy to spot with their bandannas, but since
this is a walkthrough...

One can be found where you located Jaqual, behind a building.  The other
guy is in the main plant, in the upper right corner.  His bandanna is hard
to see, but he's one of only two people in that area.  Once you talk to
both, return to the bar and speak with Samson for a scene.  Try to leave
the town, and the scientific hottie will join up with you!  Mmm, love that
beret...

Anyway, Tatjana starts out equipped with nothing but her...brassard...and
her gun.  Equip her with a steel armband and sapphire coating, and she'll
be good to go.  I put a Traitor's Soul on her, which helped her attack
power by a lot.  Leave when she's fully decked out.

To be honest, there's no upcoming battles, so I'd recommend fighting some
random battles just to get used to Tatjana.  When you're ready, go to the
mountain stronghold.  You know the way inside.  Examine the machine with
the red light to activate an elevator, then go down.  Run off to the left
to find a chest, then go back right slightly until you see a small brown
object.  That's another Spirit Dictionary, so grab it.  Back to the right
again there's an object with a red light, so examine it for a scene.
When it's all over, leave.  Zev will stop you midway and tell you something
shocking.  We're off to Yewbell!

Stop in Sulfas if you want, but you need to go to the Big Owl eventually.
Fly to Ragnoth, go to Yewbell.  There's a lot of scenes here, so I'll
just tell you where to go next.  First head to Kharg's house and talk
with Paulette, then go to the castle ruins and examine the you-know-what
over on the left side.  When you regain control, return to Yewbell proper,
or try to, at least.  Long cutscenes ahead, and a waste of a perfectly good
pair of wings.  What's wrong with these kids nowadays?  This is a chapter-
ending scene, so save your game when prompted.  Yes, that's all...for now.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4h. Chapter 4:  Darc's Story - Reunion
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We open not with Darc, but with the others.  After the cutscene, go to
Williwo.  I had Delma walk the way there, shaking her pink rear all the
way up. ^_^

Ahem, but that's neither here nor there.  Talk to Williwo.  When he gives
you a choice, pick the first option ("he's our friend") for a good item.
The other two choices give you lesser items that you needn't bother with.
You'll have a brief scene.  Leave when you're able for another scene.
Buy whatever you need, then leave for the world map and Yewbell...again.

You can't go there directly, being Deimos and all.  Stop in at the Chaos
Forest first.  When the cutscene ends, walk left.  Pick up the ancient
tablet (the brown thing in the middle of the road, right in plain sight)
and leave.  Enter Yewbell.

You have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear this kind of dialogue
from the townsfolk, so take advantage and talk to everyone for a few laughs.
Go to Kharg's house when you're ready to advance the story.  Watch the
interesting cutscene, then go to the pub.  Talk to Paulette, then the lady
behind the counter.  Go back to the castle ruins, then to you-know-who's
you-know-what (see how I'm not spoiling the game?) for a scene with Maru.
After more scenes with the rest of the gang, you're back in Chaos Forest.
One more cutscene, then interestingly enough, a battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 47 - No Darc?  No Problem!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Delma - 19
Volk - 19
Camellia - 17

Your first move should be Delma with a Fire Storm on any group of three.
Use Volk's stat boosting spells as well, you'll likely need them.  Kill
the whip hunter first, he can poison your party.  All in all these enemies
aren't terribly threatening, but don't bunch up once Volk's cast his spells,
otherwise some of their special moves can hit two or more of your party.
More often than not they'll bunch up enough for another Fire Storm, so
Delma will likely make short work of them while Volk and Camellia take
out the stragglers.

=== End Battle ===

While the following cutscene may suggest a battle, we're not at that stage
quite yet.  The chapter ends here (even shorter than the last one...) so
save your game.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4i. Chapter 5:  Kharg's Story - Truth
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We open with Kharg being his usual idiotic self.  When the cutscene's over,
go down and talk to Samson to gain him as a party member.  Unless you somehow
got extra armbands and coatings, you probably won't have anything with which
to equip your gun-toting buddy.  Save if you want, and leave.  The exit's
near the save point.

Your first planned (or unplanned) stop is the Beach nearby.  There'll be a
short cutscene, then you're free to leave.  Hit the Slothian village next.
Hopefully you have some spare cash, otherwise fight some random battles,
since the enemies give out great amounts of money (averaging 400-500 each!).
You should only need around 3200 for two diamond coatings and one steel
armband for Samson.  If there's more you want to buy, feel free to take in
some random battles.  You will need some Elixirs since you're going through
this chapter sans Paulette or Maru (who used to be your one-stop curealls
for status ailments).

Anyway, wander around and talk to everyone to figure out what's going on here.
Talk to the Slothian on the dock to get your first clue.  Next to the hut on
your left when you first enter the village is the path to your next destination.
I don't know if you have to talk to a different elder each time, but I did.
Keep asking about Nafia and Windalf to get Kharg to see the light.  Ask
about the Cave of Truth to go ahead with the plot.  Leave the village and
go to said cave.  Make sure you save first.

Once there, you'll be treated to a cutscene and a battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 48 - Brothers Reunited!  Sorta...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 18
Samson - 20

First off, these guys can paralyze you.  No fun.  If one of your party is
paralyzed, use those elixirs and fix them up.  These enemies are weak
against the light element, so if you happened to buy Luminous Moss items
in the Slothian village, they'll help here.  Luckily, even if you didn't,
Samson's skills are light-elemental, so they'll help.  Use Bigshot to kill
one enemy per round, and try to get rid of these guys fast, or they'll
paralyze you and really do some damage.

=== End Battle ===

Watch Kharg overreact, and watch Lilia bash Kharg with the hammer of truth.
When you regain control, go off to the left and exit the cave, then return
to the village.  The reason is to heal, save, and buy more elixirs if you
have the money.  The upcoming battles will be tough.  When you re-enter the
cave, go off to the right and go to a new section.  There's a glowing part
of the wall there, which you should examine.  Say 'Yes' for a battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 49 - Ooo, Sparkly!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 18
Samson - 20

These guys are STRONG!  Plus they can inflict pretty much any status
ailment, including sleep and silence.  Pray for silence, since you can
still win with just regular attacks and using herbs to heal.  Like with
those psi-blade wielding monsters from earlier, kill them as fast as you
can, because they are very, very strong.  Fortunately, they have very
little HP, so as long as you plan your attacks accordingly, you'll be
okay.  One of these guys drops a crystal arrowhead, an item which adds
Light element to Maru's standard attack and gives him a bonus to his attack
power.  It ended up being one of the two enemies on the far right when I
fought this battle.  Try to get it, but don't reset the game if you don't
find it in time.

=== End Battle ===

Watch the short cutscene, then heal and talk to the glowing balls of light.
The next exit is to the left of the glowing part of the wall.  Your next
glowing wall is north of the entrance, but a little hidden.  Examine it,
say yes, prepare for battle...again.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 50 - Ooo, Shiny!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 18
Samson - 20

This is the same battle, really.  Same enemies, same status-inflicting,
souped-up attacks, and same tactics.  Once again, kill them fast, or
suffer the consequences.  One of them holds an Eyes of a Peregrine, and no,
I don't know which one drops it.  It seems to be a crapshoot since they
move around so much.  The Eyes of a Peregrine raises the critical hit
rate dramatically, so if you're into that sort of thing, try to get it.

=== End Battle ===

Talk to the light balls again.  Go up to the next screen.  The glowing part
of the wall is in the middle.  You know what to do.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 51 - Ooo...Ran Out of Synonyms...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 19
Samson - 21

Same battle, except this time you're surrounded.  There are no items this
time around, unless I managed to kill the only enemy holding one last.

=== End Battle ===

Talk to the light balls, exit to the left.  At this point my Kharg had moved
up to class six, so if you have access to the Windblade Waltz skill, get it
immediately.  Notice the glowing wall in this room now?  Examine it, and
be battle-free temporarily.  After the cutscene, go in the now-open hole in
the wall.  Find Lilia for a cutscene, then be wisked away back to the
Slothian village for more scenes.  When it's all over, go to the docks for
some live entertainment.  Talk to Samson when you're able for some interesting
news.  Talk to Lilia at the entrance to the village if you want, then head
to the elder's napping grounds for a kickass fight scene!  When you regain
control, heal, save, and leave the village for the Beach.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 52 - Beachside Battle!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 19
Samson - 21

They outnumber you by more than 3:1, but they're also several levels below
you.  Take out the commander first for a steel armband, then just beat up
the rest of these goons.  Kill off the Gunners as soon as you can, since
they seem to be able to knock off quite a bit of HP with their special attack.

=== End Battle ===

After the brief scene, go back to the Slothian village.  Talk to whoever
if you want, but the real battle is up at the elder's place.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 53 - Oh, it's ON, You Sons of--!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 19
Samson - 21

The commander holds a Dilzweld Visor, which is an item for Tatjana.  Kill
that bastard and snag it, then wipe out the rest of this pathetic lot.
One of the Gunners holds a blue power lens, which is an item for your
airship.  Kharg's Power Shot skill is really useful in this battle.

=== End Battle ===

After all the talking, leave the area and go down to the village beach
to talk to Samson for a chapter-ending cutscene.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4j. Chapter 5:  Darc's Story - Evolution
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We open with Darc on the beach being all contemplative.  Your party will
rejoin you, then after a scene, check your equipment and get out of there.

Go to your pyron and head to Halshinne.  Once there, go to Barbadoth.  Talk
to whoever you want, then go inside the building opposite the entrance.
Talk to the ogre ahead of you twice, and when he asks for 1000G, give it
to him.  He'll return the favor with a pair of Romantic Earrings, an
accessory that'll reduce the spirit stone cost by 1/3.  You WANT this item,
trust me.  Talk to the red Quorup for new stuff.  The Death Ant Nectar is
an expensive item for Camellia, but it has an instant-death status affliction
attached, so it's worth the price.  Diamond Coatings for your entire party
are a must, as well as titanium armbands.  If you feel you need the money
and can live without those Romantic Earrings, they sell for a whopping 29000G!
That'll buy whatever you need with lots left over for herbs.  Personally,
I had an extra pair and sold it off, but keep it if you want.

Talk to the rest of the Deimos for information on what to do next.  Leave.
Go to the right of the water line, and there should be a mummy lying there.
Talk to him.  When you're done, go back inside the building and talk to the
other mummy lying on a blanket.  Get your info, save and leave the town.
Go to the Pyramid Ruins.

Walk inside, then follow the path till you come to an intersection.  Go left
up the stairs, then up again.  See the speck of brown to the right?  That's
the last Ancient Tablet.  Grab it and leave the pyramid.  Go back to Barbadoth
and go to the left side of the only building in town.  There a blue spirit
waits, the same guy who told you to get all the tablets.  Give them to him
for a cutscene and a Goddess Statuette, which raises your max HP by 20%.
Not a bad reward.  Return to the pyramid.

Go back to where you found the tablet and go left.  Follow the path till
you reach a glowing portrusion.  Examine it and flip the switch.  Go back
to the spot with the tablet and follow the path right.  Go right at the
next intersection, then left and flip the next glowing switch.  Go all the
way back to the first intersection in the first room and go right, then
follow the path for three chests with good items.  Go all the way back to
the second switch and head down and right.  Go to the end of the path once
you're outside for a chest, then hit the blue glowing switch to proceed.
Follow the path you've just opened up and go through the door at the top of
the stairs.  Press the red switch and go into the other door (the one farther
along the path) to re-enter the pyramid and grab the chest that was out of
reach previously.  The Thorned Ivy is a better version of the Barbed Wire
for Darc, so equip it immediately.  With the switch pressed and the treasure
grabbed, re-enter the temple proper and follow the path to the left.  It's a
straight run to the next switch from here.  Press it, then go down the stairs
and examine the big gaping hole.  Jump in to get a shortcut back to where you
started.  Go inside the previously locked door, run across the room and get
what you came for.  Naturally, it's not that easy.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 54 - More Undead!  Nooooo!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 21
Delma - 20
Volk - 19
Camellia - 17
Bebedora - 19

First of all, the mummy's curse will lower your stats and takes a casting
of Refresh or one of those Coleopt Froths to fix.  Secondly, one of the
mummies on the left holds a Lark Coat of Arms, which you should get.
Other than that, they're not terribly threatening due to their low movement
range.  They can hit pretty hard, so don't get overconfident.

=== End Battle ===

Return to your pyron.  Heal, save, and go to the desert entrance next.  Stop
in Barbadoth if you want to buy stuff.  After the cutscene in the desert,
you've gotta cross it.  Think of the top of your TV as north, and the other
sides as the corresponding compass points (right for east, left for west,
bottom for south).  You may encounter random battles, which I recommend
fighting at least once just because they're easy and you could use the XP.
Go north into the desert proper, then take the northeast exit.  It's hard to
spot, so just go to the upper right corner of your TV.  Go up and right,
then examine the whirlpool to the northeast.  When you pop out into a new
screen, go to the west.  Jump in the northwest whirlpool here, then go
northeast to exit to the world map.  Go to Maluise Tower.

After the cutscene, follow the singular path to a really big...something.
Prepare for battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 55 - Winged Bastard!  Die!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 22
Delma - 20
Volk - 20
Camellia - 18
Bebedora - 20

You start out bunched up, so cast whatever spells you feel like to get your
troops ready for battle.  The two steel boxes here hold good items that
shouldn't be missed.  Droguza himself also holds an item that you can either
steal or make him drop by killing him.  Take out Droguza first, naturally,
then let one or two party members of your choice break open the boxes while
the rest take out the other Dilzweld.  Make sure to cast Magic Shield on
your party if you have it, otherwise Droguza will murder you with Black Out.
Use Bebedora and take control of a Commando to help yourself out, or even use
him to break open the steel boxes.  If you have Darc's Dragon Fang Sword, he
can kill two of the commandos and deal a lot of damage to Droguza on the
first turn (if they remain bunched up) so take advantage!  Make sure to cast
Speed Up when you can, otherwise Droguza might take two turns in a row.
Bad news there.  Anyway, the item Droguza holds is the Mad Warrior's Skull,
which boosts Volk's speed by 12 and gives him an almost-guarenteed counter-
attack, but pretty much assures he'll never dodge another hit again.  Your
choice on whether or not to use it.

=== End Battle ===

Observe the cutscene and feel sorry for Droguza (or not).  When you regain
control, follow the path back to the outside world.  You can go pretty
much anywhere now, but first stop is Azer Springs.  It's a Quorup village,
so you know what to do.  Buy as many Strongest Herbs as you can, if you
already have diamond coatings and titanium armbands for everyone.  Heal,
save, move on.  You want to go to the flying fortress.  Once inside, watch
a cutscene and fight!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 56 - Killbots?  I Want One!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 22
Delma - 20
Volk - 20
Camellia - 19
Bebedora - 20

Just so you know, no one drops anything, so feel free to kill whoever you
want.  But before you do, take out the PA-200's.  They're strong and tough,
so beat them up first.  The rest are the sort of Dilzweld you've fought
before, so you should know how to take care of them.  Whoever's got the
Gorgeous Ring should be the one to kill the commander.  He drops gold ranging
in the hundreds, and with the Gorgeous Ring, it will be in the four-digit
range.  He may not drop anything, though, so don't worry about it if he's
the last one left.

=== End Battle ===

Keep in mind that you can leave at any time to return to Azer Springs to
heal and buy new herbs.  Head up when you're ready and go in through the
side door.  After the cutscene, go up the ramp in this room and through
the door.  Head across the catwalk and stumble into a battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 57 - Nothing to see Here, Folks...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 23
Delma - 21
Volk - 21
Camellia - 19
Bebedora - 20

This isn't exactly a difficult battle...in fact, it's pretty by-the-book.
Once again no one drops anything, so kill the commander with whoever has
the Gorgeous Ring just in case the guy drops money.  Use Darc's Dragon
Fang Sword to really do some damage, considering the narrow battlefield.

=== End Battle ===

Alright, the elevator's locked, so it's your job now to unlock it.  Go all
the way to the left and exit, then run up the stairs for another battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 58 - All This Over an Elevator?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 24
Delma - 21
Volk - 21
Camellia - 19
Bebedora - 21

You shouldn't need my help for this one, it's the same enemies as before.
As before, let whoever has the Gorgeous Ring kill the commander in case he
drops money.

=== End Battle ===

Go to the console with the red flashing light on top and examine it.  Turn
on the elevator, then heal/restore spirit stones and go back to the room
with the elevator.  You're in for yet another battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 59 - Oh Look, New Friends!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 24
Delma - 21
Volk - 21
Camellia - 19
Bebedora - 22

Start off by casting speed up and guard field.  The new Altered Deimos
hit hard!  Fortunately, they don't have much in the way of HP.  Take
them out quick, then finish off the rest of this scum.

=== End Battle ===

After the cutscene, use the elevator you fought so hard for.  After the
cutscene, exit to the left.  See that blinking red light?  Looks important,
doesn't it?  Go examine it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 60 - More New Friends!  Die!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 25
Delma - 22
Volk - 21
Camellia - 19
Bebedora - 22

You outnumber them.  Still, cast Guard Field just to be safe.  The steel
box on the left holds some money, so bust it open if you want.  It's less
than the random gold drops by the Altered Deimos, so don't feel you have to
get it.

=== End Battle ===

Leave the room.  Notice the place is now lit.  Use the save point in the left
corner, then go to the right-hand room.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 61 - Wise Fwom Youw Gwave!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 25
Delma - 22
Volk - 22
Camellia - 20
Bebedora - 22

Sorry, Altered Beast reference.  Replace one of the Altered Deimos from the
last battle with a lowly foot soldier and...well, just beat the hell out of
them.  Ignore the two steel boxes this time and focus on winning.

=== End Battle ===

Watch the cutscene, and examine the red blinking light when you're able.
I won't spoil anything, but I will say...wowzers!  There's a lamp on the
desk behind you when you regain control.  Examine the desk to get a key
card.  Now then, leave the room and go through the center door.  BUT BEFORE
YOU DO...!

A warning: the battle ahead is extremely tough.  Probably the hardest battle
in the game.  To that end, if your Darc is around my levels (24, 25) leave
the building and fight in random battles till the rest of your party is at
those levels.  24 or 25 for everyone should be fine.  Just let every character
but Darc fight a few random battles till they're caught up.  At this point it's
possible to level up to 30, then beat the 30-round arena challenge in Rueloon
to get Choco.  You can't use her in the upcoming battles, but having Choco
makes the other arena challenges much easier.  If this is your first time
going through the game, only level up to 25.  Leave Choco for another time.
When you feel you're ready, head back and go through that center door.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 62 - The Preliminaries
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 25
Delma - 25
Volk - 25
Camellia - 25
Bebedora - 25

As you can see, I leveled quite a bit before this fight.  This isn't actually
the hard battle I was warning you about, hence the title.  You're up against
a bunch of gun and cannon traps, but your real objective is to destroy the
five containers holding the crystals.  It's a simple mop-up job, so have at it.

=== End Battle ===

A brief cutscene occurs, and you're immediately thrust into a battle against...
What the hell is that?!?!?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 63 - King of the Deimos
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Before Choco

Darc - 25
Delma - 25
Volk - 25
Camellia - 25
Bebedora - 25

After Choco

Darc - 35
Delma - 32
Volk - 32
Camellia - 32
Bebedora - 31

I have a Before and After listed because in one version of my game, I fought
this battle at level 25, and in the other version, I left before the previous
battle and got Choco.  At level 25, Droguza beat my sorry ass to a pulp.  At
level 30, only less so.  Don't feel you have to level up to 30, because it's
possible to win at both levels.

As for the battle, cast every positive buffer you can before going against
Droguza.  Speed Up, Heated Soul, Guard Field, Magic Shield, everything.
Don't even think about fighting Droguza without these in effect.  Hopefully
Droguza won't advance on you while you're casting these buffers.  Once you're
ready, go for Droguza, but prepare to heal immediately with Camellia.  Droguza
can cast his own version of Dark Extreme, which is basically Black Out with
much greater area of effect.  Keep Camellia both out of the way and near your
party at all times for quick healing.  Unload everything you have on Droguza:
Dragon Fang Sword, Diamond Dust, Explosion, Dark Extreme, everything.

Finally, you can consider Droguza one of the hardest battles in the game, if
not the hardest.  You might die.  You will get hurt.  And Droguza can take a
lot of punishment while dishing back out even more.  Good luck.

=== End Battle ===

This is, of course, a chapter-ending cutscene.  Watch, save, move on.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4k. Chapter 6:  Kharg's Story - Rivalry
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Long conversation to start out.  When you get control, talk to whoever you
want, then go to the ruins to talk some more...with Maru.  Go to the grave
site next to speak with Paulette (notice the birthmark on her right breast?)
and regain her and Maru as party members.  Leave Yewbell and go to Thunor
Point.  Note that the enemies have suddenly become much more powerful around
here...don't level up, though.  The armor for your other party members is
lacking.

Anyway, at Thunor Point, walk up to Tatjana and Ganz, get them back in your
party, and leave.  Time to go after the bad guys.  The Big Owl is at its
usual spot.  Take Tatjana's advice and go to Halshinne.  Head to the Lamda
Temple.  The guy near the entrance runs the arena, though it's more than
likely you won't be able to get very far.  Talk to the priest at the back
and answer 'No' to his question, then pick the first option to proceed with
the story.  Take a little time to level up in the surrounding areas.  At this
point my levels were extremely low (compared to Darc's party, anyway) so
raise your levels a bit to compensate for your lack of good armor and coatings.

Once you're ready, go to Peisus.  Talk to the guy at the counter.  Time to form
a search party.  The girl off to the left of the second floor will heal you,
while the guy in the center runs a shop that sells diamond coatings.  If you
have the money, outfit your entire party with them.  Unfortunately he doesn't
sell any new armbands, but he does have some other items worth a look.  Also
buy a Napping Bell for Maru if you have the money.  Once you're ready, go into
the back room.  Go to the very back (if you don't feel like exploring, that is)
and examine the scroll on the bookshelf.  Leave the library and take the gems
from the dragon statues on the left and right sides of the entrance hall.  Go
back to the library and place the red gem in the left statue and the blue in
the right to open up a secret passage.  You'll find the thing you're looking
for, so leave and go back to the entrance hall.  Maru is off to the right side,
so get him back and go where Mr. Creepy says: to Milmarna.  Why the hell do all
these towns need to be so far apart, huh?

Anyway, Maru wanders off again, and Milmarna still doesn't have better armor
for you.  The healing lady is cheaper here, and there's a save point in the
shop, so if you don't have diamond coatings for your entire party or need some
extra levels, this is a good place to do it.

As for things to do, there's a doghouse with a treasure chest inside, but the
dog's guarding it.  Go north and east to find an island with a man and a rock
on it.  Examine the rock to get a bone, and as the phrase goes, give the dog
the bone.  Inside the chest is a letter, and after reading it, talk to the
kid nearby to make sure the dog has a good home.  The reward for all this?
Well, how's a sense of self-satisfaction hit you?  Yeah, I'm pissed about it
too...

Anyway, upon exploring to the east, you'll find a big stone building.  Let's
go inside, shall we?  We shall.  Take the first staircase to the right and
inspect some barrels to the southeast for the last Spirit Dictionary.  Talk
to one of the ladies in the nearby circular desk area.  I don't think it
matters which one.  Anyway, keep going north along this path to get stopped
by some lady, then get a shocking (see: expected) revelation about Maru.
Go to the left once this scene is done and go up the stairs for another scene.
I won't spoil it, except to say Maru's cousin is cute.  Once that scene's
done, take the path to rejoin Maru for more scenes.  And when that's over,
go back to the appraisal counter and talk to Rosanna, then the appraiser
you talked to before to get the job started.  Go north through the doorway
that girl was blocking earlier for even more cutscenes!  Talk to Rosanna and
Foh when you have control if you want to hear about Maru's past, then leave
and talk to the appraiser to get your translation.  THEN go off to the left
of that line of people and talk to the guy on the box to get Maru back.
Finally, go outside when the scene's over and go to the right for one final
scene.  Stupid Foh.  There's nothing more for you in Milmarna, so leave.

Go back to Peisus.  Open the secret passage again by taking the two gems
from the dragons in the first area and placing them in the proper statues
in the library (red on the left, blue on the right).  Go inside and talk to
Diekpeck, and make sure you say you don't believe him (the second option).
If you pick the first option, he shuts down.  If you pick the second, you can
take part in a quiz.  You win prizes depending on how many right answers you
give.  The prizes are as follows:

Diek Screw for 1-5 questions right
Clivis' Book for 6-9 questions right
Spirit Amulet for all 10 questions right

If you're going to get Diekbeck, just get one question right and fob the next.
The Diek Screw increases Diekbeck's speed by 40, so as you can see it's a
pretty powerful item...but only if you're going to get Diekbeck.  If you're
not (like me) get all ten questions right for a Spirit Amulet, which is an
accessory for Kharg that gives you complete protection against all elements
except dark.  The Clivis' Book can be equipped on all characters and gives
you immunity to all status effects, but considering how sparingly they're
used throughout the game, you're better off with the Spirit Amulet if you're
going to be skipping Diekbeck.  The questions and answers for the quiz are
as follows:

Question 1 - The town of Yewbell has many windmills.  So tell me, which way do
the blades of these windmills rotate?
Answer - Counter-clockwise.

Question 2 - In Yewbell, there is a two-story home with a windmill.  What kind
of animal did the old lady on the second floor keep as a pet?
Answer - A cat.

Question 3 - What can you get out of the crags in the northern part of Scrappe
Plateau?
Answer - Beautiful Stones.

Question 4 - At the World Alliance in Cathena, five delegates from different
places debate the issues.  Four are from Cathena, Milmarna, Epistia, and Lamda.
Your question is, where is the fifth one from?
Answer - Palkia.

Question 5 - At the World Alliance, what was a major issue they were debating?
Answer - How much to spend on entrants' lunches.

Question 6 - At the pub in Sulfas, what does the bartender always keep hidden
in his pocket?
Answer - A pair of dice.

Question 7 - What evil organization has made the Parenz Ruins in Epistia their
base of operations?
Answer - The Shinobi Gang.

Question 8 - What kind of Deimos inhabit Mt. Quina?
Answer - Lakelta Deimos.

Question 9 - What did Spencer, former General of Epistia, always have hanging
from his lips?
Answer - A pipe.

Question 10 - Which member of the Moon Stone Gang tried to hit on a girl from
Sulfas, but was shot down like a fat pidgeon?
Answer - Buster.

Now leave the secret room and talk to Span on your way out to give him the
last Spirit Dictionary to get the Hero Bandanna in return, an accessory for
Kharg that boosts his stats.  Also before you leave, buy a Napping Bell for
Maru.  You'll need it soon.  Be sure to stock up on herbs if you can as well.
Finally, leave and go back to Big Owl to heal and save, then go back to
Mt. Lambda.  Talk to the same monk that gave you this damn quest and tell him
you've learned their ways, then pick the second option.  Tell him you're ready
when you're...ready...yeah.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 64 - Calm?!  I'll show you calm, you bastards!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 22
Paulette - 22
Maru - 22
Ganz - 22
Tatjana - 22

Like my levels?  The game tells you to clear your mind, but I have no idea
what that means.  Be careful if the monks raise their attack strength
(all five did on their first turn in my game) and if they do, take them out,
FAST.  Use special moves that have an area effect, since they start out
bunched up.  Honestly, I might've overleveled, since I killed these guys
within two or three rounds, so if your levels are lower than mine, they'll
only be moderately more challenging.

=== End Battle ===

After the battle there will be a scene, and suddenly Maru will be thrust
into a battle...by himself.  Yikes.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 65 - Five versus one?  I like them odds!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Maru - 22

Actually, I don't like them odds.  Load up Maru with the best herbs you can,
along with an attack bottle and any other positive-buffering items you have.
When the battle starts, RUN AWAY!  Move as far from the monks as possible
and use those items so you actually have a fighting chance, then keep running,
attacking only when they're at the very edge of your attack radius.  If you
have a Napping Bell on Maru, hope for a sleep-inducement on some of the
monks so can keep them out of the battle for a turn or two.  Use special moves
as well, as high-damaging as you have.  If you can take on the monks one at a
time and keep yourself healed, you should come out of this alive.

=== End Battle ===

The battle over, there will be another cutscene.  Once it's done, you're free
to take the northwestern exit to Mt. Lamda.  Follow the path till you find a
recession in the mountain and a chest.  Why don't you open it?  Yeah, that's
probably best.  You'll get a Bountiful Fruit and cash for your troubles.
Move on, and you'll go headfirst into a battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 66 - Ogres and demons...oh my!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 22
Paulette - 22
Maru - 23
Ganz - 22
Tatjana - 22

You're surrounded, so pick a side and break free, then turn and face the
opposition.  These guys are strong (as evident by their levels) so use
special moves from long-distance to beat on them.  Be sure to heal up
when needed, because these jerks can drain your HP in a hurry.

=== End Battle ===

Continue on, going down the ramp you see and opening yonder chest for a
Weathercock, which is a FANTASTIC weapon part for Maru that raises his hit
rate to 100%.  The chest also has a Balo Nut, which'll raise one person's
SPD (I recommend Ganz, he's slow as it is).  Keep going along the main path
and turn left to get the next chest, which has an item that'll raise your
max HP.  Continue on again and turn into the recession to get a chest with
a Tanzanite (nullifies confusion) and Ganz' Ice Blade.  Go back to the main
path for another battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 67 - And more demons...and ogres.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 22
Paulette - 22
Maru - 23
Ganz - 22
Tatjana - 22

There's one less monster, and now they're closer to your levels (if your
levels are like mine, that is).  Still, don't let yourself get surrounded,
because they still hit hard...albeit not as hard as the last batch.

=== End Battle ===

Continue on the path to encounter a...cutscene.  After which, you'll be
right in another battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 68 - THE UNDEAD!  RUN, YOU IDIOTS!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 22
Paulette - 22
Maru - 23
Ganz - 22
Tatjana - 22

What's with all the high-level monsters around here?  Anyway, undead aside,
they're slow as hell and can't move much, so do as much damage as you can
from far away.  They have low HP, so it won't take long before they perish.
If you have Luminous Mosses (I didn't...) equip them on everyone before the
battle to do extra damage.  They hit very hard, so definitely take out as
many as you can with ranged attacks before moving in.  With their low HP,
it should be over in a round or two.

=== End Battle ===

After the battle, Maru recommends everyone "head for the light."  Great plan,
genius.  Instead, go down the nearby stairs and across the bridge, then enter
the wispy doorway of light.  Go down the ramps, then across the bridge to the
west and enter the wispy doorway there too.  Go to the southwest now, then
right at the first fork for another doorway.  This place is simple.  The
doorway's at the opposite end of the area.  Now go right and up, and try to
enter the doorway.  It's battle time.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 69 - Dramatic Raining Battle!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 23
Paulette - 22
Maru - 23
Ganz - 22
Tatjana - 22

You remember the skeletons, don't you?  Strong, slow bastards.  One of the
level 24 guys drops a Shoulder Spikes accessory, so take them out sometime
before the end.  The reapers, on the other hand, are bastards you might
recall from the arena in Rueloon.  If they're new to you, just keep this in
mind: kill them first.  They have high evade and attack, and their special
moves are just evil.  They can reduce your HP by 1/2 or even 3/4, and they
have Black Out to finish the job, as if that weren't enough.  Fortunately,
all the monsters like to group up, so use special moves with area effects
to really put the hurt on.  Tatjana's special moves are really useful here,
since they're light-elemental.  Her Sigma Gale is pretty much an instant-kill
against every enemy here.

=== End Battle ===

Finally go through the doorway.  After the cutscene, SAVE.  Leave the area
via the western exit, and go to the Eastern Fortress.  Go to the west and
talk to Boomer to find out what happened.  After the scene is through, leave
and go to...the Dilzweld Empire.  There will be a cutscene when you first
enter, then you're given control.  The shops are at the north end of the
base, but they still don't have titanium armbands for you humans.  The save
point is inside the bar, up the stairs and just ahead of where you came in.
Explore if you want to gather information, or just be thorough.  This base
is quite huge.  At the bottom level there's a dead-end with cats and a picture.
Haven't yet discovered anything useful about it.  When you're ready to advance
the story, go up to the three guards at the roadblock.  They'll (readily)
give up your next destination: Maluise Tower.  Heal, save and leave.

If you want to level up, this is the place to do it.  The Gazlua Wasteland
has reapers and skeletons, which would ordinarily be a scary prospect, but
their levels hang around 19-20 or so, so at this point you should be on even
terms with them, if not stronger.  If you're going for Diekbeck, place only
one or two party members in a battle, but only when you're sure they'll
survive.  They'll gain a ton of experience and level up fast.  This is also
good for raising SP for skill levels.  Try to be at level 23-24 before you go
off to the tower.  When you feel you're ready, head off...to destiny!

At the tower, you'll encounter...someone...and have a cutscene.  Go inside
when you regain control, then up the stairs and to the left.  Follow the path
for a chest with...some really crappy stuff.  Except if you're low on spirit
stones, then it's a godsend.  Anyway, go back to the intersection and take
the right path for a battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 70 - First Opposition
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 23
Paulette - 23
Maru - 24
Ganz - 23
Tatjana - 23

These guys are mostly just improved versions of earlier enemies, like the
Gunners.  However, they're still strong thanks to your sucky armor.  The
two PA-200's in the front are close enough to be hit by Kharg's Windblade
Waltz, so use that to damage them quite a bit, then let loose with as many
area effect abilities you can once they group themselves together.  Maru's
Binding Arrow is great here.  The steel box way in the back has an item,
but it's nothing special.

=== End Battle ===

Go up the stairs and open the nearby stairs for another one of Ganz' axes,
along with a Life Tree Berry.  Continue up the staircase and don't bother
with any side routes until you hit another battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 71 - Robotic Rumble
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 23
Paulette - 23
Maru - 24
Ganz - 23
Tatjana - 23

This time it's only robots.  One of the metal drums and the steel box have
items, but again, it's nothing special.  These enemies can still dish out a
lot of damage, but they're still susceptible to area effect abilities, so
have at it.

=== End Battle ===

Go across the battlefield and take the stairs leading south.  Follow them to
a chest containing a Stun Unit for Tatjana.  Afterwards, go back up the stairs
and to the west.  Go out into the daylight.  Once outside, just follow the
path to yet another battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 72 - Robotic Rumble, the Sequel
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 23
Paulette - 23
Maru - 24
Ganz - 23
Tatjana - 23

Ugh, more of these bozos?  Destroy the steel box for a Snake Wire, which
will increase Paulette's attack range.  Otherwise, just wipe out these guys
the same as the last two battles.  The sucky part is, the steel box is on
the opposite side of the battlefield, which means you have to fight your
way through.  Ugh.

=== End Battle ===

Go to the south and down the staircase on your right for a chest with Frey's
Hair Ornament (halves elemental damage for the ladies).  Go back to the path
and continue on for a save point.

IMPORTANT NOTE!!!  If you keep going, you won't be able to get Diekbeck anymore,
so if you don't have him and want to get him, leave the tower and go back to
Cathena BEFORE you go outside!  Otherwise, continue on.

Now then, watch the cutscenes and go up the stairs and to the plateau for more
scenes and...the final confrontation! (of the chapter, that is...)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 73 - For Peace...!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 24
Paulette - 23
Maru - 24
Ganz - 24
Tatjana - 24

Oddly enough, Darkham is not the biggest threat; those level 30 Royal Guards
are.  You'll want to take out two or three of them straight off the bat,
because they have a multitude of powerful attacks.  Use your best special
moves, and heal often.  Maru's Hunting Arrow does a lot of damage to them,
as does his Great Hunter move if you have it.  Darkham drops a Burst Blade,
a great weapon for Kharg, but you can also steal it if you kill all the
Royal Guards before him.  Make sure to keep your HP high and you should come
through this alive.

=== End Battle ===

Watch the chapter-ending cutscene, and save your game...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4l. End Chapter: The Final Battle
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A somewhat expected cutscene follows, then you must choose which side to
take.  The outcome is the same no matter which side you pick, so I advise
picking the side you're most comfortable with.  Unless, of course, you
overleveled one side like me and ended up with an overpowered Deimos army,
in which case...well, yeah.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 74 - Good, Bad, I'm the Guy with the Sword
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 24
Paulette - 23
Maru - 24
Ganz - 24
Tatjana - 24

Darc - 35
Delma - 32
Volk - 32
Camellia - 32
Bebedora - 31

Guess which side I picked.  Anyway, regardless of who you're backing, the
battle will go a little different.  The humans are much faster than the
Deimos, so it's likely they'll get a few more attacks in than you.  On the
other hand, the Deimos have area effect buffer spells, including the very
useful Speed Up.  Whichever side you pick, the opposing side will be able
to use every special move in their inventory, whether or not you've spent
the skill points to master it.  Even high-level skills you haven't earned
yet will be used on you.  Make sure to keep your HP high, and remember:
you're fighting for the survival of the human/Deimos race.

=== End Battle ===

Whichever side you picked, you'll stand victorious over the opposing side.
Watch the cutscenes with spoilers galore, and when it's over, you'll control
the side you battled for.  You'll now have to walk all the way down to the
bottom of the tower.  Before you advance the story, however, go to Azer Springs
to get some supplies.  There's going to be a lot of dark elemental magic being
cast soon, and you need Black Charms to reduce the damage.  Get ten of them
if you can, and buy Luminous Mosses with whatever's left.  The Luminous Mosses
are for the afformentioned dark elemental enemies to cause some extra havoc.
Once you're ready, save at Azer Springs, then go back to Maluise Tower and
go back to where you fought Droguza outside.  There will be a cutscene, and
then it's into the castle we go!

The scene will switch back to whichever group you beat up on the tower.
You'll get to see a scene, then you have to go all the way back down the
tower (again) and into the castle.  However, you can also leave again and
go to Azer Springs to buy Black Charms and/or Luminous Mosses with your
other party.  Unfortunately, if you're now the humans, you can't go to
Barbadoth to get titanium armbands.  Anyway, go inside the castle when
you're ready.  Another scene will commence, and afterwards you get your
first mixed battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 75 - Try not to kill each other...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 25
Paulette - 25
Ganz - 25
Delma - 32
Volk - 33

Well, this is interesting.  Mixed company!  These beasties aren't too
tough, so take them out however you like.  Normal attacks will do fine
for this match.

=== End Battle ===

Yay, new party!  Go through the doorway in the northeast corner to immediately
be sent into a new battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 76 - Those are some big'uns!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 25
Paulette - 25
Ganz - 25
Delma - 32
Volk - 33

Big-ass, high-level golems and Gormans await you here, so cast Guard Field
and Speed Up to keep yourselves well-defended and much, much faster than
these clowns.  You can actually destroy those strange orbs and possibly
get some spirit stones or gold, but focus your efforts on the golems.
All the enemies here have incredibly low defense (Ganz actually did 177
damage to a golem...with a normal attack!) so don't bother with special
attacks, just whack the hell out of them.

=== End Battle ===

Alright, go across the battlefield and up the stairs.  In the corner you'll
notice something odd.  Examine it, and touch the stone to do...something.
Go around the corner and in the doorway.  The next stone is on the west side
of this darkened room.  It might be hard to see the path, but you can't get
lost, so don't worry.  Once the bridge is complete, go to it for a neat
cutscene, then cross the bridge for another battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 77 - The Darkness Calls...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Kharg - 25
Paulette - 25
Ganz - 25
Delma - 32
Volk - 33

These monsters can paralyze you, so watch out and make with the curatives
if someone gets it.  They're a lot weaker in terms of ATK than the previous
monsters, so your biggest threat is their paralysis.  Use Paulette's Burning
Rain if they get bunched up to make short work of these pudding pops.

=== End Battle ===

The only way to go is to the elevator.  Do so, and get on it.  Go up the
stairs and up to the big door for a chapter intermission cutscene.  No
endings yet.  Save when prompted.

You'll switch to Darc and the others, and immediately go into a battle
after a cutscene.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 78 - Shot Through the Heart
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 35
Camellia - 33
Bebedora - 32
Maru - 25
Tatjana - 25

These guys are coming at you from both directions.  Let Darc and Bebedora
pick off the ones on their side, while Maru, Camellia and Tatjana work
together (shocker!) to defeat the ones on their side.  You might want to
be careful of the SA-100's.  They can kamikaze themselves and hurt you bad.
They die in the process, so they can only use it once, obviously.  Other
than that, just beat these things into the ground.

=== End Battle ===

After the cutscene, check the elevator.  It doesn't seem to work.  Well, we
can't have that, now can we?  Go off to the right-hand exit.  Battle time!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 79 - Big Gaping Hole
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 35
Camellia - 33
Bebedora - 32
Maru - 25
Tatjana - 25

What's with the odd terrain?  Anyway, see that level 30 PA-200 surrounded
by strange orbs?  Kill it first.  It holds a Unit 128k, a new weapon for
Tatjana.  The scientist-lady will also give you info on your enemies, which
we really could've used last battle, huh?  Anywho, go after the PA-200,
get Tatjana's weapon, then make your way around and kill the rest of these
jokers.

=== End Battle ===

Go across the battlefield you spent so much time getting across in the first
place and touch the stone on the far end.  Leave the room, and go straight
across to the left doorway.  Like before, it's battle time.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 80 - Gun Traps?  Are You Kidding Me?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 35
Camellia - 33
Bebedora - 32
Maru - 25
Tatjana - 25

Seriously, gun traps and shotgun traps?  Kill these idiots.

=== End Battle ===

As with before, go across the room and hit the stone.  Leave, then go through
the bottom exit in the elevator room.  One more battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 81 - Why so many elevator defenders?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 35
Camellia - 33
Bebedora - 33
Maru - 25
Tatjana - 25

Honestly, it's a damn elevator...sheesh.  Remember the pudding pops?  Well,
they're here too, in considerable numbers.  Fortunately, this time you have
Tatjana's light elemental abilities.  She'll be your scientist in shining lab
coat for this battle.  One use of Sigma Gale will kill any given monster, so
abuse it.  If you have Sigma Storm, this battle will be over quickly.

=== End Battle ===

Alright, go across the battlefield and touch the stone, then go back out and
up the elevator.  There will be a cutscene, and be sure to save your game once
you regain control.  Then, follow Bebedora up the left elevator for another
scene and a battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 82 - I'm Bebedora...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Levels:

Darc - 35
Camellia - 33
Maru - 25
Tatjana - 26

Well, crap.  If you have Choco, you might think you can use her in this
battle, but nooooo...but anyway, your goal here is to beat Bebedora, but
you should focus your attention on those dragons.  If you have any Luminous
Mosses, those big boys are weak against light elemental attacks, so use them
and Tatjana's special moves to really put the hurt on.  Move your party as
one and gang up on those damn dragons.  Use Camellia to heal rather than
Tatjana's Medical Machine, because she'll need the spirit stones for Sigma
Gale.  Once you've finished off one of the dragons (or both) go after
Bebedora.  She's really annoying...one you hit her, she teleports to another
part of the field and you have to go after her.  Try to only use Sigma Gale
on her to cause the most damage.  Two final notes: the dragons both drop
good equipment, but you can also steal their stuff.  Also, strange orbs
will randomly spawn around the battlefield.  Some contain spirit stones,
so go after them if you're low.  Keep your HP up and you'll live.

=== End Battle ===

Go back down the elevator and up the elevator you didn't take before.  Go
straight ahead to reunite with the others.  After the lengthy cutscene, you
can choose who you want to be your party leader.  It doesn't make a bit of
difference, it's just who represents your party on the map.  Pick who you
like best and the game will shuffle you off into a big door.  You now have
every character in both parties at your disposal and can choose any combination
for battle.  Give Tatjana a pair of Romantic Earrings, since her light element
special moves are your best friend from now on.

Anyway, go up the path, and talk to the Quorups for healing and whatever
items you need.  Stock up on everything you could possibly want, and sell
off whatever's not needed.  Heal and save, then get on the elevator.

Alright, just like the desert you went through with Darc a while back, this
area has 'random' battles every couple of rooms or so.  They're not story
battles, since you can use Choco and Diekbeck (if you have them).  Just
fight them as you normally would, and if you have the two secret characters,
let them loose and beat the crap out of your enemies.  By the way, this area
is a great place to raise levels, because you can return to the Quorups and
heal and/or buy new items.  It'd be a good idea to get up to the high 20's
for each character, or even low 30's.

Now then, in the first room, take the north exit.  Go through the west exit
next, then north again.  In this room are some good treasures, so grab 'em.
A new weapon part for Paulette is among them.  Now go south and east, then
south again to the first room.  Stop by the Quorups first if you need healing
or spirit stones.  When you're ready, go east in the first room.  Go north
next, and keep going north till you find an elevator.  Go up, and then north
to the exit, then west.  There will be a save point and another elevator at
the end of the path.  Go on up.

I smell barbeque.  Follow the path south, and in the next room go west, then
north.  More treasures here.  Exit south and east, then go up the elevator
in that room.  Head south for even more treasure!  Go west twice for more
good stuff.  The Superconductor Coil extends Tatjana's attack range.  Go
north when you're done collecting, then follow the path and take the elevator
down.  Take the west exit, then go north.  Keep on heading north till you
see a Quorup...here...in Hell.  Spend that money you've been earning on
whatever you need, and fill up your spirit stone supply.  Save and go up the
elevator.

Go south, then east and east again.  South once more leads you to treasure,
and south again leads to...a room.  Go west there, then ignore the elevator
and go west again.  West once more leads to a room with another elevator.
Go north from here for more treasure, then go back and on the elevator.

Here, go down the path and exit south, then go east for another elevator.
Ignore it and go north for treasure, then return to the elevator and take it.

Alright, this is it, people.  Beyond those scary looking doors is the final
battle(s).  Buy what you need, then choose out who you want to be your main
party.  Equip these people with Black Charms and Luminous Mosses.  I recommend
Tatjana (for obvious reasons), Camellia for healing, Delma for buffer magic
and fighting, then two slots for Darc and Kharg (who have to be in one battle).
The last person can be whoever you want.  Forget Bebedora, her dark-elemental
magic is useless here.  The upcoming fights are story battles, so you can't
use your secret characters.  Bummer.  Also stick a Gale Headband on your
men-folk.  Speed is key here.  Kharg can get away with using the Hero Bandana.
Equip everyone with Black Charms and Luminous Mosses if you can't decide who
to pick.  You do get to change characters between battles.

When you're ready, head inside the DOOR OF DOOM!!!  There will be a cutscene
with voice support, then you'll be in total darkness...not really.  Go around
and 'talk' to everyone, then find a flame with no one near it to continue
the story.  Now comes the time to choose your six party members, and again,
the damn secret characters can't be chosen.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 83 - The Monsters Made of Wax
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No levels for this battle, since you can pick who you want.  Mine, however,
were all in the low to mid thirties at this point.  Now, as for this battle,
each character starts by a Meshimgen.  Each character has to only hit their
particular Meshimgen, too.  If you hit one that doesn't correspond to your
character, they get turned into an uncontrollable Meshimgen for a couple
rounds.  The Meshimgen will flash their illusion when you hit them, so if
you lose track of which is which, hit them to find out.  Now then, the
illusions you want are:

Kharg - Nafia
Paulette - Lloyd
Maru - Foh
Ganz - Rapier
Tatjana - Darkham
Darc - Windalf
Delma - Densimo
Volk - Yrena and Nazaal
Camellia - Old Camellia
Bebedora - Bebedora

Keep track of which Meshimgen is which.  They don't actually or attack on
their own, so once you match up your character with their proper illusion,
it's just a matter of finishing them off.  Simple.  Every character will
earn exactly 2000 XP and 400 skill points.  Fun.

=== End Battle ===

There will be more cutscenes, then you'll be thrown headfirst into another
battle.  Time to kick some evil ass.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Final Battle:  Part 1 - Say it ain't so!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright, for this battle, Choco and Diekbeck can be chosen.  Use them if
you want.  In this battle, you'll have Meshimgens again, but they won't
be stuck to a specific character, so just kill them.  The boss here spends
most of his/her/its time summoning more Meshimgens and casting Black Out,
which is where your Black Charms come in to play.  Kill off the Meshimgens
fast, then unload your arsenal of magic and special moves on the boss.
The Meshimgens are physically weak, but they have an area effect ability
that really, really hurts.

=== End Battle ===

One more scene.  One more battle.  Let's get it on!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Final Battle:  Part 2 - The Bullet of Justice Caps Evil's Ass!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here we go.  Choco/Diekbeck can be used here again, so use 'em if you got 'em.
Right off the bat cast Magic Shield or Element Guard, along with Speed Up and
Heated Soul.  Now then, this battle is a little odd.  The Brain Cells around
the battlefield control the Black Lord's defenses, namely the dark mist.  The
Black Lord summons five in a row, and the less Brain Cells, the less DEF power
the Black Lord has.  When the five are gone, the mist dissipates and the Black
Lord will unleash the reason for all these Black Charms: a big honkin' DBZ-ish
dark ray that hits everything and causes hundreds of damage to anyone not
shielded.  In short, it'll kill your entire party if you don't bring protection.
Unleash all your best moves on the Black Lord, and keep beating on him.  Heal
when he uses his beam move and only use special attacks or magic when the black
mist is up.  Keep track of how many brain cells you kill after each beam attack.
Keep the fifth one alive for as long as possible so you can beat up the Black
Lord without his defensive shield turning all your physical attacks to 1 damage.
As a final note, the Black Lord can damage all nearby characters and absorb
their HP, so even if you keep one of the Cells alive, he can still hurt you.
If you have Camellia, Tatjana or Maru, keep them out of the way of the
absorbtion and they'll be able to beat on the Black Lord without fear of attack.
Keep your HP up and don't be afraid to use your best herbs.

Good luck.

=== End Battle ===

If you win, well...it's the end.  Watch the ending cutscenes, enjoy the
credits, and save when prompted to get your New Game+.  You don't keep
your original levels, but you get an assload of good equipment and enough
money to buy whatever you want throughout the game.  Have fun!

5.  Revision History
===============================================================================

0.01 - Just started.  I'm hoping to have more detailed character stats as
I go through the game.  As it is now, they're not much you won't know
yourself.

0.20 - Finished up to the beginning of Kharg's second chapter.  More
character data and the first sidequest detailed.

0.40 - Finished Kharg's second chapter, started Darc's.  Added even
more character data.

0.45 - Got part of Darc's second chapter.  More later.

0.80 - Up to the end of Darc's fifth chapter.  Currently leveling up to get
Choco.

0.82 - Got Choco.  I figured I'd upload this version so the FAQ doesn't
end so abruptly.

0.83 - Finally started up again after being obsessed with Viewtiful Joe
and a shitload of GBA titles.  For anyone who's wondering, no, I won't be
leveling up to get Diekbeck in this game, and I recommend the same for
everyone else.  Quite frankly, the secret characters suck.  Yeah, they're
powerful, but not being usable in story-related battles makes them good
for nothing but arena fights and random battles.  And by the time you're
powerful enough to get the secret characters, you're strong enough to beat
the damn arenas and kill anything in your path anyway, so what's the point?
Anyway, enough of my rambling, I'll try to get this FAQ completed ASAP.
Unfortunately, I have to level up a little just to survive the random
battles...that, and I need more gold.

0.84 - Completed everything up to Milmarna.  The next few updates will
likely be similar in nature, i.e. small additions at a time.  Hopefully
the next update will include an actual story battle.

0.85 - Leveled up a bit.  Bountiful Fruits are so useful.  I recently
got Final Fantasy X-2, but fortunately my New Year's resolution is to
finish my old games first, so this FAQ will take precedence.  I made a
little more progress this time, and got a couple more story battles done.
More soon, hopefully.

0.86 - Got past Mt. Lamda and am now debating stopping to level up before
moving on.  I figure I should use a separate save to get Diekbeck just so
I can finish the character section, but I might as well do that after I
finish the FAQ.

0.90 - Finished Kharg's last chapter.  Also got Diekbeck in a separate
save, so the character section is complete.  I used a separate save mainly
to keep my levels reasonable for the main game.  Started the end chapter,
but I'll get to the final dungeon later.

0.95 - Going through the final dungeon.  I'm at what I think is the second
to last save point in the game, but I won't know till later.  The next update
will hopefully also be the last one.

1.00 - Finished.  Done.  The game is beaten, the FAQ is complete.  The last
two updates were done in such quick succession that Gamefaqs actually didn't
update fast enough to get them up before a new revision was done.  Anyway,
this FAQ is done, so any further updates will be corrections or strategies
that need doing.

1.10 - Layout change.  Did it to my Shining Force FAQ, figured I ought to do
this one too.

1.12 - Some minor changes.  I really need to stop playing PC games so much.

1.13 - 'nother minor fix.  Yep.

1.15 - Fixed the copyright information and added ASCII art.

1.16 - More layout fixes I hope will make the guide easier to navigate.

1.18 - Another layout fix.  Likely the last one.  Likely not.

1.20 - Added a Revision History section and moved all but the latest update(s)
down there.
