Listed below are each of the game types that are offered from the main menu in
All-Star Baseball 2002.

Both teams are selected from random by the computer for a one-game series. From
the Quick Play screen, you are transported directly to the controller screen,
where the players select their side by moving the controller icons to either
side. Choose the difficulty setting and you will be ready to play a quick, one
game showdown between two teams.

Choosing the MLB Play option brings you to another screen with many more game
modes. You have the choice between an Exhibition game, an All-Star Game, a New
Season, continue an old season, a New Series, or continue an old series. To
continue an old season or an old series, you must have a season or series saved
on your memory card from All-Star Baseball 2002.

Exhibition is very similar to the Quick Play option, with the difference being
the choice to select any team. From the team selection screen, scroll through
the teams and view their ratings to the right of the logo. When two teams are
decided on, advance to the controller selection and difficulty screen. Move to
either the left of the right, towards your choice team. Use the left analog
stick, or the up and down buttons the the d-pad to choose the difficulty level
for the game.

The New Season option allows you to take any MLB team through a regulation MLB
season of 162 games. You also have the option to cut down on the number of
games played. After you have selected a team and the number of games you wish
to play in your season, you will be transported to the Season Main Menu.

From the Season Main Menu you can play the next game, which brings you to the
next game in your season. You can check the schedule, which will bring up all
of the games past and present in your season. You can simulate games, which
will play the game for you, computer versus computer. You can view your
standings, which shows the current standings in all divisions and leagues. To
get a more in-depth look on a certain team's statistics, highlight a team and
press X. You can also go into the managment of your team by selecting Team
Managment. Team Managment is explained in depth in section 7.

To continue your season, you must have saved your season onto your PS2 memory
card. Select the continue season option and you will resume your season from
the point when you last saved.

The New Series option bypasses the entire season and puts you into a playoff
series with another team. In this best-of-7 series, you are able to choose any
2 teams (NL and AL both) to face off in an intense matchup.

From the New Series menu you can select to play your next game, which will take
you to the next game in your series. You can see a series sumary, which tells
you the progress of your current series. You can look at the team statistics
during the series. Saving and loading your series are the last of the options,
and are used to save progress and continue progress on a select series.

Take a team of the best players out on the field for a showdown with the
opposing league's top players. The players are generated by the computer based
on the All-Star Teams from 2000. Edit your lineup and take to the field with
your All-Star team. You can choose to rotate frequently as in a regular
All-Star Game, or go for a more strategic approach.

The Home Run Derby shows the top home run hitters in the MLB, facing off
against each other to win the title. You can change the style of the derby,
choose from traditional 3 outs and a set number of innings, or a set number of
swings. The player with the most home runs is the champion.

Use the batting cursor to help your batting skills. Lean the cursor straight
down to hit the ball into the ground and hopefully beat out the throw. Hit the
ball into the gap by tilting the cursor with the right analog stick, or simply
go for a homerun by pressing [] to toggle the power icon.

Press the () button to bunt the ball and advance runners on base. Telling the
baserunners to steal before bunting is a good way to make sure they aren't
thrown out after the bunt.

Advancing baserunners will not only help you score runs, it will help change
the defense to your advantage. Steal bases with the /\ and directional buttons.
If a runner is on a base you are attempting to steal, both runners will try to
steal the next base.

Making the correct pitch selection in the correct situation can win games, or
can lose them for you. Cycle through the pitchers pitches the select a location
and let it rip. Pitchouts and intentional walks will help further your strategy
as you go for another win.

Getting to the ball quickly is extremely important, as is throwing to the
correct spot. Pre-select your throw before getting the ball by pressing the
cooresponding base. Dive or scale the walls to rob players of basehits or
homeruns.

During a season you are able to take control of the manager's position and
manage your team. You can customize things such as the line up or the pitching
staff, or even create a new player. Before a season begins you can take part in
a player draft. You are also able to trade the players on your team, as well as
sign new players from the free agent pool.

Before starting your draft you must set two options, the draft rules and your
team. The draft rules let you select whether to draft in a random order, or by
the rules set by the MLB. Your team lets you select a certain team to control
during the draft, and selecing "none" lets the computer controll all the teams
in the draft.

After starting the draft, you will have several options. To draft a player,
highlight them and press X, next the computer will simulate the rest of the
round for you.

The round number lets you know the current round of the draft. The pick number
shows you which pick in the current round is taking place. Free agents shows
the players that remain undrafted, review team shows you your current team's
roster, and review round shows all picks that have taken place in the current
round.

To finish the draft, select and draft the maximum number of players for your
team, or press "Finish Draft" and let the computer simulate the rest of the
draft for you. To reset the draft, press "Reset Draft" and you will go back to
the pre-draft menu. Select "Exit Draft" to go back to the team managment menu.

The Create a Player option lets you create your own player and send him into
the free agent pool. He is then available to be signed in your season, with all
the stats and information that you customized.

Use the left analog stick, or d-pad to highlight the different options for your
created player. Next, use the X button to select the option, then use the up or
down buttons on the d-pad to customize the option.

Each attribute will contribute to the player's overall ranking. Different
position players will have different stats to set, but all created players have
a maximum amount of points to work with.

When you are finished customizing the stats and information of a created player,
press accept to save the created player. Press cancel to go back to the
previous screen.

When setting the line up of a specific team, you will see several different
options. You can switch the team, which will let you switch a specific team's
line up. You are able to switch the line up, which changes the line up to NL vs
LHP to NL vs RHP, AL vs LHP, or to AL vs RHP. When selecting which line up, the
NL and AL represent the different ballpark and team you will be playing. When
the selection is on NL, you will be playing in an NL stadium and the pitcher
will have to hit. When the selection is on AL, you will be playing in an AL
stadium and the DH will hit in place of the pitcher.

The sub player option lets you switch a player who is in the line up, with a
player who is currently on the bench. Subbing a player will only come into
effect in the current line up (NL vs RHP, etc).

Swap position lets you switch the position of a player who is in the line up
with another player who is in the line up. Use the X button to select the first
player, then press X on the second play whose position is being switched.

The swap order option lets you customize the batting order, and again will only
be in effect in the current line up (AL vs LPH, etc).

To exit, simple select the exit option on the left side of the screen and press
X.

Trading players is a key aspect to the success of any team. To trade players,
go to the trade players menu, and select your two desired teams. Press the R1
button to get to the different teams, then press X on the team who is
highlighters. Use the up and down buttons on the d-pad to pick the desired
player or players, then do the same to the second team. The number of players
as well as their value must equal each other for the trade to be accepted.

For example, a trade involving 2 players, rated an A and a B must equal 2
players on the opposite team, both combining to equal an A and a B or lower.
If player 1 on team 2 is an A+ and player 2 on team 2 is a B, the trade will
not be accepted. If player 2 on team 2 is a B-, then the trade will be
accepted, due to the fact that the ratings and numbers both match up.

From the free angent screen, you are able to release players as well as sign
new players. Release players by selecting them with the X button, then pressing
Start to transfer them to the free agent pool. To sign free agents, press X
when highlighting the desired player, then Start to transfer him to your team.
You must make sure you are under or at the maximum amount of players for one

player who is currently signed on your team.
