i - Version History
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Version 1.1 (06/01/2006)
I've noted that all my codes also work for the PAL version FFIX, apparently.
I've removed the "Trance Bar Never Fills" codes since they restrict BMC's
equipment flags (unlike the original "No Trance Bar" codes), making them unable
to equip their proper weapons and armor. I know, my bad, >_< but it's fixed now
(thanks to Avila137 for making me aware of the problem). Some small corrections
made too. Oh, and I can't forget to mention the new ascii art I pulled from my
Beatrix Guide ^^
Version 1.0 (01/12/2006)
Added a new alternative set of Trance Codes that don't require "Restorations."
I also corrected a typo and listed forks for Quina/Cinna's weapon mod code.
Version 0.9 (07/11/2005)
Somehow the last version of this guide didn't upload right. So here's how it
should've been.
Version 0.8 (07/10/2005)
Wrote the bulk of this FAQ.

Any questions regarding any information that can be found in this FAQ will be
ignored completely. Also note that I will not respond to any requests for any
codes apart from the ones mentioned in this guide. I do not want to be asked
about where you can find all the necessary system accessories/devices to hack
this game, nor do I want any inquisitions about material that is irrelevant to
this guide. If you are having trouble understanding a particular section of the
walkthrough and have a valid question, that is fine, but I do not want to be
pestered for additional support on how to play Final Fantasy IX.
Also, if any material in this guide is incorrect, then please let me know so
that I can make the proper corrections. However, if anyone simply wants to send
me their thanks and compliments regarding my guide, I will be more than happy
to receive them, as you will make my day. Feedback and constructive criticisms
are always appreciated. In any case, be sure to provide an appropriate title as
well so that I don't overlook your letter as junkmail and delete it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
iv - Introduction
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is my second walkthrough, and it contains what you need to know for Blank,
Marcus, and Cinna. They're sub-characters like Beatrix, but with programming
differences. These three characters share their codes with Amarant, Eiko, and
Quina, which is why hacking these characters in is slightly more complicated.
But like anything, it can be done just the same. Basically though, I'm writing
this guide because I love making full use of temporary characters, like Beatrix
especially (check out my Beatrix guide too if you have the chance).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i - System Requirements
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In order to make use of the codes in this guide throughout the game, you must
be able to meet *either requirement A or B.
REQUIREMENT A
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
* Gameshark Pro (Version 2.3 or higher).
* An older PlayStation (1998 model or earlier). (It must have a rear port for
the Gameshark Pro to plug into.)
* Final Fantasy IX (NTSC/PAL).
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
REQUIREMENT B
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
* Gameshark CDX.
* A PlayStation (newer than the 1998 model), OR a PlayStation 2.
* Final Fantasy IX (NTSC/PAL).
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ii - Hacking Blank, Marcus And Cinna Into The Active Party
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The code below allows for any character to be inserted into the game. Note
that the character who is initially in Slot 1 simply gets sent to the Roster
where he/she can be retrieved later. (Warning, do NOT activate this code if
there is no one in Slot 1, or else the game will crash! Also, avoid making
doubles. After using this code, enter a battle, then exit and everything should
appear normal.)

```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Here are a couple important notes to read before getting to the next set of
codes.
Note 1: Regarding the Trance Codes; you must use them, as BMC don't have Trance
Mode Sprites, and will therefore hang the game when they enter a
Trance. Using the "No Trance Bar" codes makes the Trance Gauges
disappear, along with a side effect which gives Amarant/Eiko/Quina and
BMC all abilities in their command-sets (even if they're given a new
one). These also lock out manual Magic Stone allocation for Support
Abilities. However, these codes make it possible for BMC to equip their
proper weapons and armor. (Don't worry though, I have restoration codes
further down if you so wish to undo any changes you've made to your
characters)
Note 2: Make sure Amarant/Eiko/Quina have no Support Abilities allocated prior
to changing them, or their Abilities may cross over in a somewhat
undesireable way, and can be glitchy with the way it offsets the number
of Magic Stones.
The following codes will transform Amarant, Eiko and Quina into Blank, Marcus
and Cinna:
CHANGING AMARANT -> BLANK
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
No Trance Bar Code: 3008B686 00FF
Customizer Code A: 8008B6B0 ?F07 (Normal) \
(OR) > Set ? to "C" for Blank's Menu Cmd.
Customizer Code B: 8008B6B0 ?F17 (Soldier)/
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
CHANGING EIKO -> MARCUS
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
No Trance Code: 3008B5F6 00FF
Customizer Code: 8008B620 ?EF6 ------------> Set ? to "A" for Marcus' Menu Cmd.
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
CHANGING QUINA -> CINNA
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
No Trance Code: 3008B566 00FF
Customizer Code: 8008B590 ?EE5 ------------> Set ? to "8" for Cinna's Menu Cmd.
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Use the following codes to modify menu command skill-sets. These are used to
give some variety to BMC, (just imagine Blank using Seiken to cast Shock!)
The following codes will transform Blank, Marcus and Cinna back into Amarant,
Eiko and Quina, effectively restoring them (regardless of whether you've made
any mistakes in entering the initial codes).
Note: The Trance Restoration Code resets Amarant/Eiko/Quina's abilities, and
gives them their equipment capabilities back if you used the "No Trance
Bar" codes.
Basically, all you have to do to successfully work these codes is load your
game with the desired codes on, and then save the changes you've made to the
game.
Note: If you use the codes properly as I've outlined, there will not be any
problems with your game. However, if you do something to corrupt it,
find help elsewhere because I will not be held responsible. The best I
can do is provide you with a Checksum Bypass Code to load corrupted files
(that's if you accidently messed something up and saved your game):
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
iii - Cinna's Weapon Modifier Codes
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following codes modify Quina/Cinna's equipped weapon. Simply replace xx
with one of the corresponding hexadecimal values. I've only listed the Hammer,
and Quina's forks here since I think they look good in Cinna's hands, being the
Bundt Cake hound that he is. Anyway, be sure to equip/unequip a different piece
of armament after you've replaced his weapon so that the correct equipment
stats can take effect.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
iv - Name Modifier Codes
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are the necessary codes to change BMC's names as you see fit.
10 - A 11 - B 12 - C 13 - D 14 - E
15 - F 16 - G 17 - H 18 - I 19 - J
1A - K 1B - L 1C - M 1D - N 1E - O
44 - u 45 - v 46 - w 47 - x 48 - y
49 - z
FF - End of Name
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Here are example codes for writing in the respective names for Blank, Marcus
and Cinna:
3008B67C 0011 -> B 3008B5EC 001C -> M 3008B55C 0012 -> C
3008B67D 003B -> l 3008B5ED 0030 -> a 3008B55D 0038 -> i
3008B67E 0030 -> a 3008B5EE 0041 -> r 3008B55E 003D -> n
3008B67F 003D -> n 3008B5EF 0032 -> c 3008B55F 003D -> n
3008B680 003A -> k 3008B5F0 0044 -> u 3008B560 0030 -> a
3008B681 00FF 3008B5F1 0042 -> s 3008B561 00FF
3008B5F2 00FF
Note: If you input a name that is more than seven characters long, it will be
cut off on the battle screen's ATB menu. (For example, a name like
"Sephiroth" will be displayed as "Sephiro")
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
v - Stat Modifier Codes
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I use these codes merely for the purpose of resetting BMC's stats when they
naturally get overwritten by their alter-egos. Just plug in a hexadecimal value
into xx. (Be sure to record their stats before the overwrite, and check Chapter
Four, i, for Cinna's stats as well.)

CHAPTER THREE: ABOUT THE TANTALUS THIEVES
-=============================================================================-
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i - Background
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The thief trio belongs to a group of thieves by the name of Tantalus. They're
introduced on the Theatre Ship as they plot to capture Princess Garnet.
Following several events, Blank joins your group in the Evil Forest temporarily
until he is petrified. This is when Marcus, his brother, goes on a quest to
cure him. Both are virtuous characters who are loyal to Tantalus. Mysteriously
though, they somehow manage to see through their eye-covering bandanas, which
is cool nonetheless. As for Cinna, well...he's a fat shirtless, lazy and
forgetful bum who has glowing eyes for bundt cake. However, that doesn't change
his good intentions in Tantalus.
So, all in all, these thieves are a pretty cool bunch of guys.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ii - Pros
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This section points out Blank, Marcus and Cinna's strengths as characters.
* They all have the ability to steal, like Zidane.
* All three can equip the same armaments as Zidane, barring thief swords/
daggers, plus they can also wear certain female equips (like Lamia's Tiara).
* Cinna nets you a buy for the extended ending because of his Hammer.
* BMC do not need to collect AP.
* Blank and Marcus (especially Blank) have pretty decent stats (except magic).
* Blank has two battle sprites for you to choose from!
* BMC can be brought almost everywhere in the game; they're glitch-free in
battles, they work on the World Map, in dungeons, towns, shops, menu screens,
and will load up every time without fail.
* Most cutscenes are glitch-free with these three characters, though I've yet
to do more thorough testing. In most cases, their alter-egos take over only
for the necessary appearances that cutscenes require them for.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
iii - Cons
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This section points out Blank, Marcus and Cinna's faults as characters.
* All of them lack the ability to Trance.
* Blank and Cinna's portraits are never displayed on Saved Game files.
(Irrelevant)
* They have no real Skill-sets without the use of a Gameshark.
* Blank and Marcus cannot equip Knight Swords, that means no Excalibur II.
* Cinna can only equip the Hammer, which is one of the weakest weapons in the
game, and it cannot be unequipped without a Gameshark.
* Cinna has some of the lowest stats in the game.
* All of them do not have, nor are they able to use, Support Abilities without
the use of a Gamehark. (I suggest referring to AnothonyAdja's Support
Abilities Guide on Gamefaqs for this if you prefer to play the game without
keeping a GS active).
* Blank and Cinna do not get healed when using Tents on the World Map. (They
work at Save Moogles though.)
* BMC cause the game to glitch, hang and/or freeze during certain battle
events that are story-driven (refer to Chapter Five...when I finish it :P).
-=============================================================================-
CHAPTER FOUR: STATUS
-=============================================================================-
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i - Starting Stats And Equipment
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following are BMC's base stats if they are at level 1. (Note: The stats on
the left indicate that nothing is equipped, while the stats on the right
account for all the equipment listed.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ii - Stat Maximization Equipment
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This section provides all the weapons and armor that will increase BMC's stat
growths when equipped after so many levels. For more on this, see KADFC's
Stat Maximization Guide for the formulas in calculating stats.
My Equipment choices for raising all stats all around, (except for Magic, since
BMC don't have any magic-affected skill-sets):
|----------------------------------------|
| EQUIPMENT | Spd | Str | Mag | Spr |
|----------------+-----+-----+-----+-----|
| Defender | | | | +3 |
| Green Beret | +1 | +1 | | |
| Power Wrist | | +2 | | |
| Power Vest | | +2 | | |
| Black Belt | | +2 | | +2 |
|----------------------------------------|
| TOTAL BONUS | +1 | +7 | +0 | +5 |
|----------------------------------------|
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
iii - Maxed End-Stats
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following are the highest values the thief trio could possibly attain for
their stats by focusing on each individual stat alone (with the best equipment)
from LV 1 to LV 99.
-=============================================================================-
CHAPTER FIVE: FULL IN-GAME UTILIZATION WALKTHROUGH
-=============================================================================-
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i - Normal Character Game + Blank, Marcus And Cinna (UNDER CONSTRUCTION)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This section will address all places of note for the thief trio of Tantalus in
a full play-through with them.
Note: If anyone is interested in doing any testing for me by doing a whole game
with all three of these characters, letting me know of any glitches/problems
that may arise, please contact me right away because that would be awesome!
I ask since I really don't have the time, nor the drive to play FFIX again any
time soon, so any help wouldn't go uncredited :)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ii - Miscellaneous Places That Concern The Thief Trio (PENDING)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-=============================================================================-
CHAPTER SIX: END NOTICES
-=============================================================================-
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i - Conclusion
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope you've enjoyed this guide, I certainly put a lot of work into it. One of
the major reasons I wrote this is because it's always great to open up new
possibilities for things.
Well, cheers.
