Part 1.1 Introduction
********************************************************************************
Here we are, yet again. I've noticed some concerns regarding this new and
updated system. As usual this will be an ongoing process, and you should expect
to see updates in the coming months. If you're familiar with my previous
guides for the Way of the Samurai franchise, you should know what to expect.
I've dropped my Ratings system, as weapons are purely cosmetic and based on
personal preference now; Style and moves are tied to the Player Character,
and not a weapon itself.
As always, Dojima is a complete *******. Upgrading is much more simple, and
it is not difficult to maximize a weapon. This is a fairly simple process, and
has been becoming much easier from the past Way of the Samurai games.
Weapon Creation is once again the main draw. This system has also been
noticeably improved.

********************************************************************************
Thanks to the community for making me want to write another FAQ, and every
single entity responsible for Way of the Samurai 4 having a Western release.
Neonwarrior1243, thank you for the vast majority of the weapon list and
corresponding locations. Just great work. Seriously, thank you.

Part 2.1 Sword Guide Information
********************************************************************************
Most weapons are easy to acquire. I will include a complete list, as to the
best of my knowledge, at least. As I have said, work in progress!
As I have done away with Ratings, this is a very basic list. It comes down to
personal preference, and chances are you will simply make your own weapon at
some point.
The statistics of a weapon are irrelevant. You can maximize any weapon, and
the statistics mean little. I would suggest looking for a higher Degradation
number, simply to make upgrading easier and cheaper.
Obtain information is very vague, and I'll update it when I have the chance.

Part 3
********************************************************************************
********************************************************************************
Part 3.1 Information
********************************************************************************
The new system eliminates Defense on a weapon, and Strength is the lone
statistic outside of Durability. Quality has become Degradation, and the change
is simply one of semantics.
Every time you upgrade Strength or Durability, Degradation will increases, i.e.
your first upgrade will increase your base Degradation of 1/x to 2/x. This
will continue until it reaches maximum Degradation x/x, and beyond.
I will not list prices, as they change depending on Crime Rate. They can become
very high, or stay within reasonable parameters.
There are two potential blacksmiths: Smithy and Dojima.
There are minor differences between the two, but I will not address those
until I have confirmed them. Dojima is, however, the better blacksmith.
The main difference is that Smithy retires on the Fourth Day, and Dojima does
not.
We'll start with some basic information, i.e. Services.
The first three choices: Forge, Buy, and Sell.
- Forge is the gateway to all the major blacksmith services
- Buy and Sell are self-explanatory
Forge leads to five more choices: Refine, Recast, Apparaise, Extract, and
Create
- Refine and Recast are the major services to better your weapon
- I'll go into greater detail shortly
- Appraise Titles your weapon, if possible
- Extract destroys the weapon and gives you either Scrap Metal or
Ground Metal, depending
- Create allows you to make your own Katana or Spear based on the Parts you
have
This covers the basics.
********************************************************************************
Part 3.2 Upgrading
********************************************************************************
The first thing you have to decide is on what you want your Title to inevitably
be. My Upgrading this time around focuses on maximizing a weapon as soon as
possible.
Maximizing a weapon means taking Strength to 500, and Durability to 2000.
This is where deciding what to Title your blade matters; the Oddity title adds
250 to Strength. This means you want to Title the blade before your Strength
hits 250, or is exactly at 250. This will take you very close to 500.
Durability upgrades always cost more, and should be prioritized. Durability
upgrades are a set number, 500 per upgrade.
Refine and Recast now will be explained.
Refine has three options: Make Stronger, Make Harder, and Polish.
- Make Stronger increases Strength
- Make Harder increases Durability
- Polish restores Durability to your maximum
Recast has two options: Make Stronger, and Make Harder.
- See above
The major differences are thus:
- Refine costs money, increasing sums per upgrade
- Recast initially costs 10 Scrap Metal, or 5 Ground Metal, followed by a
very low amount of money; this is a set cost depending on Crime Rate, and
will remain at that cost
- Recast is much cheaper, and should always be used for increasing
Durability as it is a set upgrade
- Refine will offer much better increases for Make Stronger; double what
Recast offers
- Refine will no longer work once you reach Degradation of x/x, whereas
Recast can go x+y/x until maximum is reached
This is why choosing a Title before upgrading is important.
It is a fairly simple process. If you plan on using Oddity, aim for 250
Strength and Recast as needed. If you plan on using any other Title, do
not use Recast until you have reached maximum Degradation.

********************************************************************************
Part 3.4 Weapon Creation
********************************************************************************
This requires Parts; blade, guard, and grip.
It is purely cosmetic, and Parts are plentyful. This system has been entirely
redesigned, and you should focus on making a weapon you actually like.
Disassembling weapons is the easiest way to acquire quality Parts. They may
also be bought from Dojima, but his selection is limited. At times, certain
enemies may drop Parts as well.
********************************************************************************
Part 4
********************************************************************************
********************************************************************************
Part 4.1 Charms
********************************************************************************
These Charms can be incredibly powerful, and it is advised that you at least
attempt to apply one, or two, to your favored weapon. You may have up to three
Charms on any idividual weapon.
Charms are found on individual Parts, and applied to a weapon if they align in
the proper fashion when creating said weapon. Charms are randomly generated
every time you Disassemble a weapon, or enter a Buy window with Dojima.
Each Part has three spots that may contain a Charm. Each weapon requires three
Parts with a total of nine spots for potential Charms. This means you may have
a total of three Charms per weapon.
Now, to make them align, they need to be laid out properly on the weapon. The
Charm must link either vertically, or diagonally, with the same exact Charm.
Think of it like Tic-Tac-Toe, as in they must connect, and be of the same type
to have the Charm applied to the weapon.
The easiest way to apply the same Charm three times to a weapon is by use of
the K pattern:
- The Charm on the first and third spot, on the top part of the
weapon
- The Charm on the first and second spot, or second and third spot, on the
middle part of the weapon
- The Charm on the first and third spot, on the bottom part of the
weapon
