This walkthrough provides step-by-step instructions for completing Under the
Ground from beginning to end. As such, it will contain spoilers for every
puzzle, so do not read this if you'd rather attempt to solve them yourself.
Completing the game without using a guide would likely take between one and two
hours. There is no save function, so you must do this all in one session. Note
that the puzzles and codes are the same every time you play the game and there
is no randomness. The below walkthrough represents the bare minimum number of
steps necessary to complete the game.
You have a health meter. There are a few enemies and they are easily avoided.
You can't kill them. You can also take damage from fire and from being shocked
by electricity. Health regenerates over time, so if you make any major mistakes
you can stand somewhere safe and restore your health.
1. Proceed to the red wall locker with a six digit pass code.
2. Enter 103115 on the locker's key pad and pick up the pliers.
3. In the same room, go to the dumpster with a panel.
4. Light up the red, yellow, and blue lights and click the lever on the right.
5. Light up the yellow and blue lights and click the lever on the right.
6. Light up the red and yellow lights and click the lever on the right.
7. Light up the yellow light and click the lever on the right.
8. Light up the blue light and click the lever on the right.
9. The dumpster opens but you can't take the bomb just yet.
10. Turn behind you, open the door and exit the room.
11. Go to the locker that has dynamite on it and the digits 0-7.
12. Enter the code 31012 on that locker and pick up the extinguisher.
13. Continue to a panel with a red and blue light. It's right by a wall panel
that has intermittent electrical discharges.
14. Press the lights in this order: Red, Red, Blue, Blue, Red, Red, Blue, Red,
Red, Red, Red.
15. When the panel opens, use the pliers on the wiring and get the lighter.
16. Go past the electrical discharge to a machine with a rose and yellow light.
17. Press the lights in this order: Rose, Rose, Yellow, Rose, Rose, Yellow,
Rose, Yellow, Rose, Yellow. (The hit boxes are a bit weird so be patient.)
18. The machine should explode. Pick up the pickaxe.
19. In the same room, go to the freezer and open it.
20. Use the pickaxe on the ice. Pick up the bag.
21. Return to the dumpster (part 9 above). Use the bag on the bombs to pick
them up.
22. Go to the fire. This is near where you started the game.
23. Use the extinguisher on the fire and continue down the tunnel.
24. You'll see a sign. Use the bomb on the sign.
25. Now use the lighter on the bomb. You'll see an explosion and the game
ends.
Completing step 25 above unlocks the "Survivor" Steam achievement.
By following the above steps, you avoid doing anything with the wall clocks,
mailbox, battery, chess board, crowbar, billiard balls, and answering machine.
They are used solely to provide the codes used above and are not necessary to
complete the game if you know what the codes are.
