0.0 Info
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Most of this FAQs comparisons are to Trainz 2006, the second newest version that
I have, and one of the more popular versions
______________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
0.1 About Trainz
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As you probably have Trainz and are reading this FAQ for information not
easily obtained or understood, you know about what Trainz is.
This version of Trainz, TRS 2010: EE (Engineers Edition) is part of the Trainz
family
It is also the first to have SpeedTree built in
It is made by N3V Games who is a subsidiary/partner of Auran
Auran is the creator of the original Trainz and most of its descendants
The closest version is TRS 2009: WBE, on which TRS 2010 was modeled
______________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1.0 Troubleshooting
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is an easy to understand, experience-based, troubleshooting guide
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1.1 Mouse/Pointer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With my first version of Trainz, TRS 2006; I discovered that my mouse
pointer was not visible
There was no explanation to why this event occurred
After nearly a year, I accidentally found the cause: the "Hide Pointer While
Typing" option for the mouse
settings was selected
After deselecting that, the pointer became visible
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1.2 Speed
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Trainz tends to need A LOT of processing power, so it is fastest when it
is the only major program (such as the Content Manager or Windows Media Player)
running
Minor programs, such as Microsoft Paint or the calculator and system programs,
do not interfere
If Trainz is slow, you may be running too many programs, or Trainz itself is
slow, as due to caching, loading
or merely too many high detail objects (or SpeedTrees) are in an area
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1.3 Disappearing Objects
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I first loaded Trainz, I noticed that, when in Driver mode, Bogeys (Trucks
/Wheels) were missing, they
were not missing in Surveyor mode
The problem is, apparently, a minor fundamental design flaw in DirectX; as it
translates and recompiles the
objects and can forget some objects
OpenGL, however, simply loads it onto the screen with slightly less detail (not
easily noticeable)
Other objects may not appear for two reasons, they do not have anything that
actually is visible (pictures
might state otherwise) or they have errors/missing dependencies, which,
apparently is a new feature, as
TRS2006 loaded the objects anyway
______________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2.0 Modes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In TRS2010, there are five modes, "Tutorials", "Routes", "Scenarios", "Saved
Sessions" and "Railyard"
In comparison, TRS2006 had three modes, "Surveyor", "Driver" and "Railyard"
"Saved Sessions" was a submenu in "Driver"
"Scenarios" and "Tutorials" were included in (six) sessions, "Sessions" was
read as a session, with the individual scenarios as sessions, despite being
on different sessions
The menu systems are illustrated below. MM = Main Menu
2.1 Railyard
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The appearance of the "Railyard" has differed no more than the general
appearance of Trainz from TRS2006 to TRS2010
It has merely been given a face-lift, and possibly a new "building" to be
located in
