001.  General Information

This is a walkthrough for the game called "The Great
Unknown: Houdini's Castle". The game was released in 2014.

003.  Walkthrough
-----------------------------------------------------------

You start the game by selecting whether to play on casual
mode or normal mode. In casual mode, the skip and hint
buttons recharge more quickly, and there are glitters over
things you can interact with.

003a.
-----------------------------------------------------------

You start in a room. Click, and someone attacks the door.
Oh no! At this point, you have an optional tutorial.

See all the sparkles over the chest on the right? That
indicates it is a hidden objects challenge. Click on it,
then find all the items on the list. Two items require
extra work. Drag the "+1" onto the "9" to get "10". Drag
the cube onto the block, then spin the top row of the block
a few times for a puzzle cube. Solving the hidden objects
challenge gets you a drawer knob.

Go right, to the bedroom window. Take the weight that's on
the windowsill. Use the drawer knob on the drawer for a
rabbit. Someone throws a rock through the window at this
point. Pick up the rock and read the note. It's from your
newly-married husband, Sam!

This room has a bird cage that you can't get into, as well
as a telescope that needs three lenses. You'll do those
things later.

Go left. Open the brown package to find a box. Put the
rabbit on top for a door lock part. The other door lock
part is at the base of the umbrella stand. Use both door
locks on the door for a puzzle. What you want to do is
click the three locks, until the colors match. They match
with blue in the center circle and orange in the outer
circle.

Solving the puzzle opens the door. Go forward to the
fireplace. Your captor, Alan Whitehead, says you'll have to
solve many puzzles to escape. He then disappears. Look at
the chair he was sitting on, for a piece of glass.

Go right, to a locked gate. Put the piece of glass on the
broken mirror, on the ground. This reveals a record. Take
it. Look at the dresser on the right for a light bulb. Look
at the puzzle on the left wall for a pitcher.

Go left twice, into the cinema room. Put the light bulb
into the projector to light up the room. Take the box from
the ground, then look at the table for a screwdriver.

Return to the locked gate area. Use the box on the puzzle,
on the left wall. With this puzzle, you move pieces around
to form a ladder in the center column. Solving the puzzle
gets you a ladder! Go left a screen and use the ladder on
the mess in the back.

Climb up the ladder. You can either go forward to the yard
or right to the terrace. Go to the terrace. Step forward to
the door. Take the film reel and solve the hidden objects
challenge for a red lens.

Now, go to the yard. Use the pitcher on the water fountain
for some water. Take the magic shawl from the bench and go
forward to the barn. Use the rock on the middle window
here, so you can enter the barn.

In the barn, look in the toolbox in the upper/left for a
magic wand. Look at the barrel for a pickaxe. Try to go up
the stairs, and they turn into a slide. Looks like you'll
need a gear to fix the machine here.

Go back three screens, to the ladder. Use the pickaxe on
the loose brick to the left for a key. Go right to the
terrace. Zoom in on the hat on the stairs. Put the magic
wand in place, then put the magic shawl on top. This gets
you a tusk.

Go back twice, to the fireplace. Zoom in on the boar's
head. Put the tusk on the boar for a puzzle. The puzzle is
to move the boar's tusks, until the mouth opens up. The
solution to this puzzle is randomized, and when you solve
it, you get tweezers.

Go back to the bedroom. Solve the hidden objects challenge
for plaster of paris, then go right to the window. Use the
tweezers on the bird cage for a painting piece. Might as
well put the lenses on the telescope while you're here,
although you don't have all three lenses yet!

Go back to the barn, but don't go inside. See the hand
imprint on the right? Use the plaster of paris and the
water here, for a plaster hand. Go to the terrace and use
the hand on the door to open it.

Go inside this room. Use the screwdriver on the clock for a
gear. Take the weight that's under the cabinet. Zoom in on
the music machine. Use the record here, then pull the lever
for a ticket.

Go back to the barn, inside it this time. Use the gear to
fix the stairs to the right. Go upstairs. Solve the hidden
objects challenge for a pin. Zoom in on the piano for a
puzzle, where you have to press the six red keys in the
correct order. Solving the puzzle gets you a painting
piece. Finally, take the wrench by the TV.

Go back a screen. Use the wrench on the floor covering.
Specifically, use it on all four screws. This gives you a
puzzle, where you have to slide blocks out of the way to
clear a path. Solving the puzzle opens up the way to the
basement.

Go into the basement. Take the broom from the center, the
red button from the area on the right and the film by the
cash register on the left. Go back a screen. Use the red
button on the saw to stop it. Open the box for a lever.

Go back two screens. Use the lever on the wheel on the
left. This brings the nippers within reach. Use the key on
the nippers to get them.

Return to the terrace. Solve the hidden objects challenge
for an eight button. Go through the door. See the box under
the cabinet? Use the pin to open it, for some glue.

Go back to the cinema room. Use the film reel on the
projector to see a movie. You can watch several movies over
the course of the game, although they're optional. Zoom in
on the table. Put the film down, and use the glue on it.
Watch this film for a painting piece.

Time to finish with this part of the game! Go to the metal
gate. Use the nippers on it to open the lock. Go through it
to reach the cellar area.

003b.  The Passageway
-----------------------------------------------------------

Go forward twice, to the chest. Solve the hidden objects
challenge for a weight. Go back a screen. Use all three
weights on the statue for a puzzle. The solution is to put
the three smallest weights on the scale. This gives you a
painting piece.

Go back to the fireplace. Use all the painting pieces on
the painting for a lens. Go back to the bedroom. By the
window is a telescope. Use all the lenses on the telescope
for a puzzle. Here, you want to adjust the lenses and knobs
to get a code: 7314.

Go back to the passageways. Past the chest is the door to
the torture room. To the left is the pool area, and to the
right is the theater. Pick up the meat from the ground,
then open the torture room door with the code 7314.

You can pick up a film reel here, if you want. Zoom in on
the back wall and take the 4 token. Zoom in on the chair to
the left for a TV knob. Go back a screen. Go left to the
pool area and take a violet crystal from the pipes on the
left. Go right to the theater. Zoom in on the ticket
machine left of the door. Take the 6 token.

Well, you've got items for the barn. Go all the way back
there, and go down into the cellar. Use the tokens on the
cash register for a puzzle. Move numbers around so every
row and column adds up to 15.

This gives you a TV knob. Go up to the attic. Use both TV
knobs on the TV for a puzzle. Click the knobs until both
sides of the TV are blue, and you get the lever for the
ticket machine. Solve the hidden objects challenge here for
a jar.

Go back to the terrace. Zoom in on the upper/left, where
there is a spiderweb. Use the jar on the fly, for a fly in
a jar. Go back to the passageway. The treasure chest has
another hidden objects challenge. Solve it for wired plug.

Go back to the pool entrance. Use the fly in a jar on the
spider here, then use the broom on the spider webs. You can
go forward to the pool. Solve the hidden objects challenge
here for a razor. Take the grappling hook from the far
right side of the room. Zoom in on the shark tank. Use the
meat to get rid of the shark. Take the battery from the
charger on the right.

Go to the torture room. Look at the chair on the left. Use
your new razor on the armrest here for a robotic claw.

Go to the theater. Use the ticket and the lever on the
ticket taker, to open the door. Oops! There's a puzzle on
the door. Rotate the rings to form a picture of two snakes.
Then go inside. Use the wired plug and the battery on the
outlet to the left in order to charge the battery. Take it
with you.

Zoom in on the machine to the right. This lights up the
theater. Use the screwdriver to undo the screws. Looks like
the machine needs new wires. Take the pipe valve inside.

Go back to the shark tank. Use the metal claw and the
battery on the machine here, and position the claw so it
picks up the other pipe valve. The solution is one spot
from left and one spot from the top. Go back a screen and
use the valves on the pipes to the left. You get a puzzle,
where you want to make the water level equal in all three
places. This drains the pool.

Go to the pool. Solve the hidden objects challenge for a
stone figure. Look in the drained pool for a tree key and a
hammer.

003c.  The Abyss
-----------------------------------------------------------

Your character says the wooden hammer will let you get
through the door in the barn. Go all the way back to the
barn. Zoom in on the barrel to the right. Use the hammer
here to knock the block aside, so you can go through the
door.

This screen has the hot air balloon which will be used to
escape the island at the end of the game. Take the film
reel from the ground, and take the fish and lighter from
the picnic basket. Take the chainsaw from the balloon.

Zoom in on the tree for a puzzle. Click on the sixteen
tiles here. Clicking on a tile rotates it. Rotate all the
tiles so they connect. Use the tree key here for a
turquoise crystal and a rope with a magnet.

Go back to the yard, in front of the barn. Use the chainsaw
on the trees to the right to open up the path to the road.
On the road, give a fish to the raccoon by the tree on the
left for a rope. Go forward to the abyss. Take the film
reel by the butterfly if you want, and use the magnet on a
rope on the branch by the side of the cliff for a knife.

Use the rope on the tree trunk, then use the grappling hook
on it to give yourself access to the cave. Solve the hidden
objects challenge for a silver star. Take the gas tank
here, and zoom in on the jacket. Use the knife on the
pocket for a statue. Zoom in on the little pan on the left;
take the key by it.

Go back two screens, to the road. Zoom in on the right. Use
both statues here for a blue crystal. Zoom in on the bear
trap in the middle. Take the screw and use the key on the
trap for some metal balls.

Return to the cave. Solve the hidden objects puzzle for a
windup key. Use the metal balls on the pan, then use the
lighter to melt them. That gives you a skull. Use the skull
on the wall here for wire. Well, you're all finished with
this area, and you've got two items for the theater!

Go all the way back to the theater. See the ticket booth on
the right? Use the windup key here for a hidden objects
challenge. Solve it for a fuse. Enter the theater proper.
Zoom in on the machine to the right. Use the wire and the
fuse here. Push the button to light up the path to the
stage.

On the stage, pick up the film reel if you want. On the
right table, there is a puzzle. You need to put the pieces
together to form a diagram. On the left is a stone flower
and a slider puzzle. Solve the slider puzzle for a locked
box. Use the stone star here for the fourth crystal.

Zoom in on the machine in the center of the room. Put the
crystals in place and pull the levers, according to the
diagram. The diagram is inside your notebook. This opens
the way to Houdini's room.

Solve the hidden objects challenge here for a pumpkin. Take
the screw from the book on the right. Do NOT solve the
puzzle by the cage here unless you have revealing dust,
because otherwise, the game will glitch, and you'll be
forced to restart from the beginning again.

Return to the torture room. Use the two screws on the cage
to a right for a puzzle. You want to click on the screws so
they are all pulled out. Clicking on one screw will affect
other screws. Solving the puzzle gets you a hacksaw.

Go back to the theater. Solve the hidden objects challenge
for a shovel. Go to Houdini's room. Solve the hidden
objects challenge for revealing dust. Now that you have
revealing dust, look at the cave. Use the hacksaw here for
an isolator.

Go to the torture room. On the far wall, use the revealing
dust. This gives you a puzzle. Press all six bricks in the
correct order. If you have a brick correct, it stays pushed
in. Solving this puzzle opens the way to the mines. Hey,
guess what? From this point on, you won't have to return to
any of the rooms you've already been to! You're finished
with all the rooms of the game, up to this point. Hooray
for not having to backtrack past this point!

003d.  The Mines
-----------------------------------------------------------

Go forward, to the mine entrance. Take the bucket that is
by the dynamite here. Go left to the doors. At the end of
the game, you'll ascend this staircase to the left. For
now, take the jack.

Go to the mine entrance and forward to the mine. Zoom in on
the coal to the left. Use the bucket and the shovel here
for a bucket of coal. Zoom in on the fallen minecart to the
right. Take the crowbar and use the jack to prop up the
minecart, so you can get a detonator.

Go back a screen. Use the crowbar on the dynamite box for
dynamite. Go forward. Use the dynamite and the detonator
here to blow up the wall of stone. You can now go forward
to a new area. Huh, it didn't take long to get out of the
mines, did it?

You are at the scarecrow. Take the leaf from the ladder to
the left. Zoom in on the scarecrow. Take its belt and put a
pumpkin in its basket for some nippers. Go back to the mine
entrance and use the nippers to open the cabinet on the
wall, for an axe.

Go forward three times, to a plane. Solve the hidden
objects challenge here to get a hammer. Go back and right,
to a graveyard. Use the stone leaf and stone flower on the
gravestone for a generator filter. Use the hammer on the
coffin here for a hidden objects challenge. Solve it for a
fire extinguisher.

Return to the plane. Solve the hidden objects challenge for
gloves. Return to the cemetery. Look at the wall here. Use
the gloves in order to get a handle.

Go back to the plane. Use the axe to get inside the plane,
which you could have done earlier. Grab the coat of arms.
Use the fire extinguisher on the fire for a statue part.
Open the suitcase with the code 9482. Grab the wire here.
Go back a screen and use the wire on the plane's propeller
for a parachute part.

Go back to the cemetery. Use the statue part on the base of
the statue for a generator belt. Solve the hidden objects
challenge for a plank of wood. Go back a screen. Use the
plank of wood on the ladder. Use the belt to secure it, so
you can reach the treehouse. Here, take the pendant. Use
the handle on the jack-in-the-box for a sensor.

Go back to the mine entrance. Put coal into the machine on
the right, and put the sensor into place. You can use this
machine to crush something, later on.

Go left, to the doors. Use the generator filter and the
generator belt on the generator to light up the way to the
tower. Go left into it.

003e.  The Tower
-----------------------------------------------------------

There is a slider puzzle, left of the stairs. Solve it for
amber. Go back to the mine entrance. Use the amber in the
crushing machine for a gear blocker. Return to the tower.
Use the gear blocker on the gears to the right, to gain
access to the next floor of the tower.

Go up. Take the stained glass pieces here, including the
one on the gargoyle. Use them on the window for a jigsaw
puzzle. Solving the puzzle highlights a stone. Go up, grab
the ice ax from the bottom/right, then go back down. Use
the ice ax on the stone for an eye symbol.

Return to the doors, just outside the tower. Use the eye
symbol left of the doorway. This gives you a wrench and a
gargoyle ear. Return to the gargoyle. Put the ear in place
for a gas damper. Go up, and use the gas damper on the
pipes to the right to turn of the pillars of flame.

Go up, to the exit doors. Take the matches and the knight
coat of arms to the left. Go back to the base of the tower.
Use bother knight coat of arms on the knight for a door
handle. Then go back up to the top of the tower and use the
door handle on the door to open it.

Hooray, we reached the mirror! Zoom in on the cannon. Take
the acid and use the wrench here for an isolator. Use the
pendant and both isolators on the mirror. Good, it's all
ready.

Go backwards twice. Zoom in on the niche to the left. Use
the acid here to open the cage for a key. Go forward and
use the key to open the cabinet to the right. This gives
you a knife switch and a needle and thread. Go forward and
use the knife switch on the left to power the mirror and
bring Rachel back.

Take the burner that is left on the metal stairs, then
return to the hot air balloon, which is behind the barn.
Put the parachute part on the balloon and secure it with
the needle and thread. Put the burner and gas tank into the
balloon basket, then use the matches to start the hot air
balloon. The end!
