2.1  1ST IMPRESSION

Tantei Shounen A (officially "Tantei Syounen A" and
possibly "Detective Boy A") for Windows, by Foster, came
out on 2002.07.19. I'm not familiar with the other games by
Foster.
Got this game because the chara designs by Sky House
look typical, the game is voiced, and the screen shots
don't seem to involve the abnormalities that I dislike (see
below).
The game is on one CD. It doesn't seem to contain any
omake directory or files.
The player can choose the install size. Standard
install for 59 MB (actual), or full install for 190 MB. I
chose standard install, and the game needs the CD in the CD
drive to run. Don't know about full install.
The game has 12 save game slots. The save games are
in just one small BIN file in the game directory.
The player can't change the protagonist's name, or the
save game slot titles.
The game screen has a standard layout. Chara portraits
(thighs and above) superimposed on a background illust.
Rectangular message window above the bottom edge of the
screen, with small icons for System (options), Auto Mode,
Reread (rewind), and Rapid Feed (fast forwards) in the lower
right corner.
RMB is also for options. The options menu/window looks
like a small notebook with hand-written notes, and includes
the load/save game slots page/screen.
On the bottom edge of the message window is the Item
button. Click it to display and explain the items that the
protagonist carries.
The female chara are voiced. The male chara, except the
protagonist, are also voiced. When they speak, the chara's
eyes and mouths aren't animated.
Anyway. The story of the game...

    *SPOILER ALERT*

The male protagonist is Hinagata Akira. An unfortunate
and unimpressive school boy.
During his summer vacation, one day, the two main
heroines, Teruyama Momiji (long straight black-grey hair)
and Saionji Yukari (blond hair in twin tails), meet him and
drag him to his aunt's Shirokuma Tanteisha (officially
"Sirokuma Tanteisya", meaning "White Bear Detective
Agency"). His aunt's missing, his parents are out of
country, and the two heroines, who are his aunt's
assistants, verbally convince him to become the acting
director (more like "drone") of the tanteisha.
(At first glance, Momiji looks like Tsuyuha Neesan in
Seireitsukai Elementalors, and the protagonist looks like
Yahiko chan in Ruroken (Rurouni Kenshin), IMO.)

A crone... I mean an old female shop proprietor named
Kawada Mitsuko immediately comes to the tanteisha and tasks
the protagonist with finding Miko chan, her missing white
Yorkshire terrier.

The game then changes to map movement mode, like in
Doukyuusei and Kakyuusei. (Actually, back in the early '90s,
I played Princess Maker and Sotsugyou, and didn't play
Doukyuusei or Kakyuusei.)
The protagonist's SD icon is in a bird's eye view map
of his city ward, like in the ancient RPGs for the Famicom
and SFC (Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon: Another Story, Dragon
Quest, &c).
RMB shows the entire city map. Some buildings are
outlined and look mildly more colourful, and are probably
event spots. The player manually walks the protagonist to
these buildings. Some streets end at the edges of the map,
but the protagonist can't exit the map.
The player can't load/save game in map movement mode,
unless the message window is on-screen, and the protagonist
can't immediately re-enter the tanteisha. Indeed, the
protagonist can't enter spots that has no scheduled event.
In the upper left corner is a clock. Time passes only
after the protagonist enters a spot and gets an event.

From north to south, the city map has effectively
five west-east streets.
On the north side of the first (northmost) street,
from west to east, are: a mansion (apartment building)
and Sichiya Collection (Kawada Mitsuko's shop).
On the second street are: Egeon Sea (commercial
building), a commercial building, Shirokuma Tanteisha, and
a park.
On the third street are: Guru Guru 2, a police
station, Poplar (restaurant), Cotteria Hamburger, and Kansukeya.
On the fourth street are: Hotel Risto, Honobono Fake,
Bowling, and a game centre (with Sonic the Hedgehog's head above the door).
On the fifth street are: Hotel Kim Kim, a
construction company office, a commercial building,
NcDomald's, a club (unlabelled blue-grey building), and a
game centre.
(I'll figure out the names of the nameless buildings
later.)

2.2  2ND IMPRESSION

The voice acting in this game is... mediocre and not
dramatic, IMO.

Some players who cleared this game claimed that they
completed it in as few as three hours, and that the few
multiple choice nodes in the game has only two choices
each. (-_-;) Maybe simple is best.

Later (2002.09.19): After the player gets a Good Ending
and a cast/staff list, a new option called CG-MODE appears
in the main menu.
CG-MODE has 65 slots of unlocked event CG: five rows of
five event CG on pages 1 and 2, and three rows of five event
CG on page 3.
A slot may contain more than one event CG, when the
heroine changed her expression in that event CG.
The male chara's... anatomy is still whited out in the
unlocked event CG.
I don't think this game has an event replay mode.

FYI, in Ecchi games, I dislike anal, android,
bandage, bestiality, bondage, boys
love/gay/homo/Shouta/yaoi, Burikko, byoujaku, choukyou,
gakuenmono, kanchou/scatolo, kemono, kichiku, kyonyuu,
Lolicom/puny, Mah Jong, maid, nun, nurse, okama (maybe
except the Hokuto no Ken type), orgy, slime, tentacles, and
zombies.
    (I know. Picky, picky.)

4.   SOLUTION

    General hints:

Once per day, the protagonist Akira should go to the
shop Kansukeya and check if the shop owner Kansuke gives
Akira an item. Also, Akira should patrol the family
restaurants and fast-food restaurants, and check if one of
Mitsuko's missing dogs is outside a restaurant.

4.1  THE ADVENTURE BEGINS

"atasi no 'sigoto' ha hito wo korosu koto yo.
hito wo 'tasukeru' tame zya nai wa."
    - Mireille Bouquet (CV: Mituisi Kotono), NOIR (TV:
      2001)

    *SPOILER ALERT*

    JULY 26

The protagonist gets an item: a city map.

15:00 at Cotteria Hamburger, southeast of the
tanteisha.
The protagonist meets his classmate, Kinoshita Yukiko
(Meganekko with long straight brown hair), and gets a
clue. He then automatically goes to NcDomald's, finds Miko
chan, and goes to the tanteisha.

The protagonist gets an item: a dog.

    19:00 at Shirokuma Tanteisha.
The protagonist and Yukari automatically go to
Shichiya Collection and return Miko chan to its mistress.

20:00 at Shichiya Collection, northeast of the
tanteisha.
Kawada Mitsuko gives the protagonist a new task: to
find Connie, a white Maltese. He must attempt and fail to
enter three or four spots before he can enter the
tanteisha. He then automatically says good night to
Momiji (no relation to the Hitobashira Girl heroine in Blue
Seed) and sleeps in the tanteisha.

The protagonist loses an item: a dog.

    JULY 27

Morning at Shirokuma Tanteisha. (Yukari's panchira
CG...)
Anyway. A man named Nitta gives the protagonist a new
task: to stalk... I mean monitor his daughter, Nitta Masumi.

14:00 at Cotteria Hamburger. (Not Lotteria or
Coppelia, and this time, the protagonist can't enter
NcDomald's.)
The protagonist meets his target, Nitta Masumi
(shortcut light brown hair and in a famires uniform).
Seems she doesn't want to be her father's (figurative)
slave at home.

    16:00 at Cotteria Hamburger.
The protagonist must attempt/fail to enter about four
spots before the clock becomes 18:00 and he can enter the
tanteisha.

    18:00 at Shirokuma Tanteisha.
The protagonist meets the gaki who answers the phone
at the tanteisha, Nana chan (Loli). He and Momiji then
automatically go to Cotteria Hamburger.

    20:00 at Cotteria Hamburger.
The player (not protagonist) sees a Momiji Ecchi
event (bondage (light), non-consensual copulation...).
So Momiji was already chuuko when she and Yukari first
met the protagonist... (-_-#)

    JULY 28

    13:00 at Shirokuma Tanteisha.
The protagonist may attempt/fail to enter about seven
spots before the clock becomes 17:00 and he reminds himself
to go to Cotteria Hamburger.

Or, the protagonist may go to these event spots:

13:00 at Kansukeya. (The shop east of Cotteria
Hamburger.)
The protagonist meets the male shop proprietor,
Kansuke.
The protagonist gets an item: a picking tool
(lockpicks).

    15:00 at NcDomald's.
The protagonist finds Connie, but can't immediately
enter Shichiya Collection.
The protagonist gets an item: a dog.

    17:00 at Cotteria Hamburger.
The protagonist manually follows Masumi to a cosplay
party at an event hall on the 5F of the unlabelled
blue-grey building east of NcDomald's. There, Masumi and he
have an Ecchi event (cosplay, nakadashi). (BTW, in the Ecchi
CG, the protagonist's... anatomy is whited out.)

    22:00 at unlabelled blue-grey building.
The protagonist should go to Honobono Fake and report
to Nitta Papa. (So Masumi unsafely copulated with an
absolute stranger like the protagonist... and seems she was
already chuuko... but he still thought her behaviour was
all right...? (@_@;) He's more... unjust than I thought.
Also, when her circle get their doujinshi printed, or
when they pay (maybe about 20K Yen) for a desk at a doujin
event, does she benefit... I mean pay the fees in the same
cashless way? Plus, will she re-appear later in the game?
BTW, no, I didn't play Comic Party.)
The protagonist then automatically goes to the
tanteisha and reads a memo from Momiji about a new task:
contact Itou Momoyo at the imekura (image club) Watashi no
Oheya.

    JULY 29

    14:00 at Shirokuma Tanteisha.
The clock quickly becomes 15:00 and the protagonist
can only enter the mansion northwest of the tanteisha.

    15:00 at Watashi no Oheya.
The protagonist meets Momoyo (long brown hair and
sobakasu). She claims she's afraid of a stalker and hires
the protagonist as her bodyguard (no relation to Kevin
Costner).
As the protagonist paid the 8,500 Yen entrance fee, she
and he have an Ecchi event (fella, air mat play).

    17:00 at Watashi no Oheya.
    The protagonist meets Yukiko.
My protagonist then went to Shichiya Collection.

    17:00 (again) at Shichiya Collection.
The protagonist returns Mitsuko's Connie to her, and
she gives him a new task: to find Chip, a brown Pomeranian.
My protagonist then went to Kansukeya.

    17:00 (again) at Kansukeya.
The protagonist gets an item: a purple vibe (vibr_tor).
The protagonist then may have to attempt/fail to enter
about two spots before the clock becomes 18:00.

18:00 at the Sonic (the Hedgehog) game centre (east of
Bowling).
The protagonist meets two girls who are quarrelling
with each other, Tadokoro Ai (short black hair and black and
white sailor fuku with yellow scarf) and Emi (redhead). Ai
is his primary school classmate. (At first glance, Ai looks
like Hikawa Naori, the Arbeit Miko chan in With You, IMO.)

    19:00 at Watashi no Oheya.
The protagonist escorts Momoyo to her home.

    20:00 at Momoyo's home.

    21:00 at Shirokuma Tanteisha.
The protagonist deposits the purple vibe in the
tanteisha...

    JULY 30

    1 PM at Shirokuma Tanteisha.
The protagonist meets Nana chan and Yukari. He and
Yukari automatically goes to Poplar for lunch.

    2 PM at Poplar.
After lunch, Yukari and Akira automatically go to the
tanteisha, where they meet Ai. Akira sees an Ai Ecchi event.

    3 PM at Shirokuma Tanteisha.
Outside the tanteisha, Yukari and Akira bump into a
girl. Yukari and Akira then can only go to Watashi no Oheya.

4 PM at Watashi no Oheya.
Outside Watashi no Oheya, Yukari and Akira meet Momoyo.
They then can only go to Momoyo's home, that is, the second
north-south lane west of Shichiya Collection, where they
meet Tetsuji the Stalker.

    6 PM at Momoyo's home.
After a few steps, Yukari speaks with Akira. Akira
suggests they go to a game centre.

    7 PM at Momoyo's home.
Yukari and Akira can't enter the tanteisha anyway.

8 PM at the Sonic game centre (east of Bowling).
Akira meets Emi. He then automatically goes to the
tanteisha.

    JULY 31

    3 PM at Shirokuma Tanteisha.
Akira can go to the commercial building east of Egeon
Sea.

3 PM (again) at the commercial building east of Egeon
Sea.
Akira meets Mama, who runs the Koto Club on 3F, and
learns about the Mask Club on 5F. He also meets Rinko and
Nitta Papa.

4 PM at the commercial building east of Egeon Sea.
Akira can go to Kansukeya, meet Kansuke, and get an
item: night vision.

    6 PM at Honobono Fake.
Akira meets Nitta Papa, and they go to a kyabakura or
host club. Akira sees a Nitta Papa X Kitano Yuka Ecchi
event (almost scatolo). Akira then automatically goes to the
tanteisha.

    AUGUST 1

    3 PM at Shirokuma Tanteisha.
Akira can't enter the Koto/Mask building yet. He can
enter Kansukeya.

    3 PM (again) at Kansukeya.
Akira meets Kansuke and gets an item: rose bouquet.

4 PM at cosplay party building.
Akira meets Chip and gets an item: a dog.

5 PM at possibly between Cotteria Hamburger and
Kansukeya.
    Akira meets Yukiko.

5 PM (again) at the Koto/Mast building.
Akira meets Rinko and speaks about Shingo.

6 PM at the Sonic game centre.
Akira meets Shingo. Akira then should manually follow
Shingo to the park.

6 PM (again) at the park.
Yuka meets Shingo. Akira then has two choices.
    1-1. Negotiate with Nitta Papa.
    1-2. Stalk Yuka.

1-2 leads to a Bad Ending/Game Over, but choose it
first to unlock some Ecchi event CG anyway.

4.2  FROM 1-2

    6 PM at Cotteria Hamburger.
Akira manually follows Yuka to Cotteria Hamburger,
where Yuka meets Yukiko.

6 PM (again) at Cotteria Hamburger (again).
    Akira goes to the tanteisha.

7 PM at the Yakuza office.
Akira meets Tetsuji. They then enter the Yakuza office.
Inside, Akira sees an Ai Ecchi event (fella, non-consensual
copulation).

    BAD ENDING - GAME OVER

4.3  FROM 1-1

    7 PM at Honobono Fake.
Akira meets Nitta Papa. They then automatically go to
Cotteria Hamburger.

    7 PM at Cotteria Hamburger.
Masumi meets Akira and Nitta Papa.

    8 PM at Shirokuma Tanteisha.
    Akira meets Yukari.

9 PM at the Koto/Mask building.
Akira meets Mama and Rinko. Rinko and he has an Ecchi
event (fella, nakadashi).

    AUGUST 2

    1 PM at Shirokuma Tanteisha.
Akira returns Mitsuko's Chip to her, and she gives him
a new task: to find Win (or Vin, from Uxin), a chihuahua.

    2 PM at Cotteria Hamburger.
Akira meets Win and gets an item: a dog.

    2 PM (again) at Kansukeya.
Akira meets Kansuke and gets an item: descrambler.

2 PM (again) at Sonic game centre.
Akira meets Emi, who￾fs playing a catcher/crane game.
They have an Ecchi event (shuin). During the event, Akira
has two choices.
    2-1. Yes (continue).
    2-2. No (abort).

The first time, I chose 2-2.

Later (2002.09.24): This is probably the critical node,
or one of the critical nodes, in the game.
2-1 promptly gives Emi and Shingo an advantage over
Akira, but in the next event, Akira neutralises this phantom
menace. 2-1 eventually leads to a Momiji Good Ending.
2-2 avoids the above threat, and eventually leads to a
Yukiko Good Ending.

4.4  FROM 2-2

    3 PM at Hotel Risto.
Akira meets Ai. They have an Ecchi event (shojo), but
he aborts it and she leaves. Akira then meets Momiji. They
then see a Yuka X Nitta Papa Ecchi event (fella). Akira then
uses up the Picking Tool to egress.
(I don't know what happens if Akira doesn't have the
Picking Tool? Maybe Game Over?)
Akira then sees two Momiji Ecchi events (kanchou,
onani-). Then they automatically return to the tanteisha.

    9 PM at Shirokuma Tanteisha.

    AUGUST 3

    At Shirokuma Tanteisha.
Yukari and Akira have an Ecchi event (fella). During
the event, he meets Rinko. He then exits the tanteisha.

    1 PM at Shirokuma Tanteisha.
Akira automatically goes to Watashi no Oheya.

1 PM at Watashi no Oheya.
Akira sees a Momoyo X Yuka Ecchi event (les). Momoyo
and Akira then have an Ecchi event (fella, nakadashi).

5 PM at Watashi no Oheya.
Akira meets Yukiko. He then automatically goes to the
tanteisha.

    5 PM at Shirokuma Tanteisha.
    Akira meets Nana chan.

    6 PM at Shirokum Tanteisha.
Akira meets Momiji. He then automatically goes to
Shichiya Collection.

    7 PM at Shichiya Collection.
Akira meets Mitsuko and they babble about a missing
ring that isn't missing. He then meets Rinko. He then
automatically goes to the tanteisha.
BTW, Mitsuko and the game didn't detect the dog in my
protagonist's inventory.

    9 PM at Shirokuma Tanteisha.
    Nichts. (Nothing.)

    AUGUST 4

    2 PM at Shirokuma Tanteisha.
Yukari and Akira can't enter: Kansukeya, Shichiya Collection, Shirokuma
Tanteisha.

2 PM at the Koto/Mask building.
Yukari and Akira meet Shingo. Yukari then leaves Akira alone.

3 PM at the Koto/Mask building.
Akira can't enter: Bowling, Cotteria Hamburger,
Honobono Fake, Kansukeya, NcDomald's, park, police station,
Poplar, Shichiya Collection, Shirokuma Tanteisha, Sonic game
centre.

3 PM at Watashi no Oheya.
Akira meets Momoyo, but not Yuka.

4 PM at Watashi no Oheya.
Akira reminds himself to go to Bowling.

    4 PM at Bowling.
Akira meets Yukiko. He sees an Akira X Yukiko Ecchi event (shuin,
nakadashi).

    6 PM at Bowling.
Yukiko and Akira automatically go to the park.

    7 PM at the park.
Yukiko leaves Akira alone. He then automatically goes
to Shirokuma Tanteisha.

    7 PM at Shirokuma Tanteisha.
Akira meets Nana chan briefly. He then reminds himself
to meet Mama.

8 PM at the Koto/Mask building.
Akira meets Rinko, and they have an Ecchi event (fella,
onani-, futanari). He then meets Mama. He then automatically
goes to Shirokuma Tanteisha.

    10 PM at Shirokuma Tanteisha.
    Nichts.

    AUGUST 5

    At Shirokuma Tanteisha.
Yukari and Akira automatically go to Hotel Risto.

    3 PM at Hotel Risto.
Yukari and Akira have an Ecchi event (tekoki,
nakadashi).
She evidently misunderstood his declaration. Shocked,
she leaves Akira alone.

    5 PM at Shirokuma Tanteisha.
Akira meets Nana chan briefly. He then meets Rinko, and
they automatically exits the tanteisha. He then has two
choices:
3-1. Manually go to the park.
3-2. Manually (try to) go to another spot.

3-2 leads to a Bad Ending/Game Over, but choose it
first to unlock a Rinko X Akira non-Ecchi event CG anyway.

    6 PM at the park.
Akira meets Ai. The player then sees a Shingo X Ai
Ecchi event (fella, shojo, nakadashi).

    2 AM at Shirokuma Tanteisha.

2 AM at the Yakuza office.
Akira meets Kaitou Yukiko. They then automatically
exits the Yakuza office.

4 AM near the Yakuza office.
Akira speaks with Yukiko. They then automatically goes
to Hotel Risto.

    4 AM at Hotel Risto.
Akira and Yukiko have an Ecchi event (ends as fella).
They then automatically exits Hotel Risto.

8 AM near the town centre.
Yukiko leaves Akira alone. He then automatically goes
to Shirokuma Tanteisha.

    8 AM at Shirokum Tanteisha.
Akira meets Yukari and Momiji. The player then gets a
Good Ending/Game Over.

    GOOD ENDING - GAME OVER

4.5  FROM 2-1

5 PM at Sonic game centre.
Emi and Akira's Ecchi event (nakadashi) continues.
Shingo then briefly appears and counter-extorts Akira. Emi
and Shingo then leave Akira alone.

5 PM at the grey building west of NcDomald's.
Akira sees a Shingo X Emi Ecchi event (tekoki, anal,
nakadashi).

8 PM at the grey building west of NcDomald's.

shinpin Ai?
Or maybe I missed an arbitrary event, like the "Night
Vision in the park" event that didn't happen before my first
Good Ending?
The protagonist didn't use most of the items in his
inventory.
