I. Intro

This is my first attempt at making an FAQ / Walkthrough, so please go easy
on me.  :)  Any *HELPFUL* criticisim is very much appreciated, as it is a good
way to learn.  Got a better formatting idea?  Notice that I can't spell or
type? Found this FAQ on a website other than GameFAQs.com?  Fire off an e-mail
to me, aprilfool79 (at) gmail (dot) com, just make sure you put GameFAQs RCT3
as the subject.

I live in the United States, and have Windows Vista installed.  All
information is based on that version of the game, and information may vary
between versions.  So, all prices will be listed in American Dollars ($), and
distance and speed measurements will be in Imperial (feet, mph).

A little background about me: I've been visiting theme parks since I was
born (we lived about 2 hours from Walt Disney World in Florida), and have been
riding roller coasters since I was about 5.  I've spent almost 10 years in the
theme / amusement park industry: I've operated rides, been part of testing
crews for new rides and a new theme park, worked crowd control for events at
parks, and even done parade stilt walking.  I'm a member of the ThrillNetwork
message boards (http://database.thrillnetwork.com/count.php?userid=11923 if
you want to see which parks and rides I've visited, as of 01/27/2008 I'm at 20
parks and 98 coasters) and the Coaster Crew.  I go to concerts and NASCAR
races, and love road trips to either (or even better, BOTH, hee hee).

VI. Scenario Information

Since there are a million ways to play out each scenario, I?m not going to
tell you how to accomplish each one.  I will, however, give you some basic
information that is useful in all the scenarios, as well as all the other info
you need to make decisions about how you want to run your park in order to
accomplish each goal as quickly as possible.

Objectives that say they can be accomplised at any time are just that --
you can do them at any time, even if you haven't reached that level yet. For
example, if the scenario requires that you to have a minimum excitement of 3
for a coaster to beat the Apprentice level, and a minimum excitement of 4 for
a coaster to beat the Tycoon level, simply build your first coaster with an
excitement level of 4 or greater, and you've already accomplished one of your
Tycoon objectives!  So look at your goals and plan ahead accordingly.

RIDE OPERATIONS:  I like to have at least my roller coasters inspected
every 10 minutes.  Most of the flat rides can be inspected every 20 minutes
and still operate with no issues.  Try to put your entrances close together,
so one mechanic can service two or three rides.  Unlike the previous versions
of the game, the mechanic needs access to the ENTRANCE of the ride, not the
EXIT.

FINANCES:  Watch the interest rate of the loan in each scenario.  A 1.5%
interest rate won't do too much damage to your finances, but a 19.9% one will!
Removing trees and bushes will cost you money, but removing scenery will
actually gain you money most of the time.  Remember, you can always remove
those extra paths that lead to nowhere, and get a little more operating funds.
If you need to build there eventually, the paths probably won't be exactly
where you want them, anyway.  So you may as well get the money while you can.
On a related note .....

PRICING FOR RIDES:  The general consensus is to price your ride based on
either the excitement rating, or the excitement rating plus the intensity
rating divided by two.  Both are a good rule of thumb for parks with no
entrance fee.  For parks where you can't charge per ride, a small park (1
coaster, 2-3 thrills and 2-3 flats) should be up to $25. If you see a lot of
people entering in a short time, increase the entrance fee buy $5-10, then
wait a few weeks of game time, and see if that levels off your attendance. You
can also listen to the park evaluator, or check the guest thoughts.

RESEARCH:  Look at the types of rides you have available, and figure out
what you need.  If you have 10 types of thrill rides, and not much space to
work with, and need to build 3 coasters, don't worry about researching more
thrill rides.  You can change the importance of the types of things you're
researching, so play with those figures to get what you need.  Pre-made
coasters can be good for scenarios, but a bit pricey.  Of course, if you're
like me and can't build a coaster off the top of your head to save your life,
you'll need those pre-made coasters.  Or download some from the ride exchange
on the official site or any of the online forums.  Just make sure you test
those downloaded ones out in the sandbox mode first.  Some of them are a bit
on the insane side!

STAFF:  A neat feature of RCT3 is the ability to have more control over
your staff.  Not only can you hire and fire what you need to, you can change
their salaries, give them training, and even discipline them!  I usually drop
everyone's salaries to the lowest as soon as they're hired, then immediately
train them.  Sure, it costs $350 to train each staff member, but they work
harder, faster and better after you do so.  You also now have a Park Inspector
that will wander the park and give you helpful (or not-so-helpful) tips for
managing your park better.  You can even control the salary and training for
the "vendors" at the rides and shops, although I haven't noticed any
difference in their performance when I've messed with those.
