Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire
Since I beat it as a Wizard, I'm going to lay out this walkthrough as a
Wizard. Before you start, fill up Magic and Intelligence points to max, and
use the rest into vitality. Ok, so here we go.
Stuff you wanna do before the Rites
Gaining Access to all equipment in the Science Academy
Get one of each kind of pizza from Marrak, some anchovies from Andre, some
jalapeno peppers from the Apothecary, and a spear from the Weapons Shop.
Combine the jalapenos with the pepperoni pizza, and the anchovies with the
artichoke pizza. Go to the Gondola Station outside of the east gate on the
beach. Adjust the left lever to get the windmill going. Force the right lever
to break it off. Put the spear in it's place, and pull it to get the gondola
to the station. Adjust the lever when the gondola gets to the station to apply
the brakes. Get on the gondola, and throw a Force Bolt at the lever to get the
brakes off. Get off the gondola at the island. Answer the questions on the
Science Test (the little green flashing monitor) to get in. I was going to
include the answers, but I forgot what they were. When you get in, give the
anchovy and artichoke pizza to Dr. Pretorius, or if it is after 6:00, give the
pepperoni and jalapeno pizza to Dr. Mobius. But, in any case, make sure that
they get their respective pizzas. Before you hand them their treats, take the
test in the corner and qualify for lab assistant. There, you have unlimited
access to the equipment, and you'll need it later.
Get some Amphorae, a Map, and a Balloon Painting
Buy them from Wolfie. 'Nuff said.
Buy the 3 New Spells, a Magic Dagger, and the Magic Magnets
This one is fairly self-explanatory.
Put a Magic Magnet in the Chest in Your Room at the Inn
Catch the Bank Robber
When you get enough drachmas to put with the ones in your account and enter
the Rites, someone cleaned out the bank and got away with your cash! Now, we
can't let the jerk get away with it, can we? So anyway, pick up the
Interesting Toolkit. Go over to the Magic Shop and show it to Shakra. Go to
the Teleporter and cast Trigger on it to go to Erasmus' home in the Clouds.
Answer the Cloud Guardian's questions like this:
What is your name?
Xxxx {pick your character's name instead of Xxxx}
What is your quest?
To save Silmaria.
What is the meaning of life?
Ours is not to ask why, ours is but to do or die!
Go up the walkway to the door, and open it. Show the toolkit to Erasmus. Use
your Magic Magnet to go back to your room. Rest until about 9:00, then go in
the Dead Parrot. Follow the guy with the one arm out of the Dead Parrot, to
the bridge, and watch him open the secret door. When he is gone, cast Trigger
on the secret door to trip the trap from afar, then cast Open on the door to
go in the Theives Guild. Arrest the one-armed man, and you will get 2,000
drachmas. NOTE: The bank will not be robbed until you have 500 drachmas or
more with you.
Get some Hippocrene Water and Pegasus Feathers
Before you get them, make sure you have an Amphorae, your Magic Magnet, and a
Levitate spell on your belt. Go to the Pegasus Cliffs. Go all the way over
until you come to a river. Fill your Amphorae with the river water. Then, go
back to the first cliffside. Levitate up to the nest. Get about 60 feathers.
Use the Magnet to get back to town. Give the Hippocrene Water to the Famous
Adventurer, and sell all but one feather to Salim. You'll need that last
feather later.
The Rites of Rulership
The Rite of Freedom: Free the Village of Naxos
Before you go off on this Rite, buy 20 Haling Pills, 5 Healing Potions, a
Poison Cure Pill, 20 Mana Pills, and 5 Mana Potions. Put the HP Pills, HP
Potions, MP Pills, and MP Potions on your belt, as well as the Magic Dagger,
and the Dazzle and Lightning Ball spells. Rest up until you are at full
health. Go out of town, around the corner of the island, and head for the
wierd-looking symbol. You'll know it by when you hilight it, it says "Naxos".
As you go to it, you should make an unscheduled stop on the beach. Run along
the shoreline, avoiding the monsters, and pick up the basket. Go back out the
way you came in. Go to the village. Avoid all of the mercenaries. Just run up
to the hut with the long staircase, and knock on the door. To defeat the Four
Leader Mercenary Dudes, cast Dazzle to stun them, then keep on throwing
Lightning Balls at them. If you need to, use the potions and pills
respectively. If you need more stamina, eat some fruit. When they are all
dead, rob the bodies and everything out of the chest in the corner. Use the
Magnet to get back to town. Run to the Hall of Kings and give the Symbol of
Naxos to the gate guards to win the Rite.
The Rite of Conquest: Kill General Claudius and Take His Shield
Replenish your supply of pills and potions until you have as many as you did.
But, also get 20 Stamina Pills if you can afford them. Make sure you have the
Reflect spell on your belt with all that other stuff as well. Go down to the
beach and rent the boat from Andre. Follow your map to the island of Sifnos.
Get off onto the island. As a Wizard, this will probably be the hardest Rite,
so be forewarned. Sneak past the two patrolling Mercenaries until you get
around to the back of the fortress. Don't go over and up the stairs. Instead,
stand on the side of the first floor up the stairs and Levitate up. They will
see you, but just run and they won't destroy you. Inside the fortress, keep
using a Dazzle/Lightning Ball combo until all the Mercenaries are dead. Then,
a Centaur Wizard will start throwing Lightning Balls at you. Cast Reflect, and
throw Flame Darts at the Wizard. Each time he warps, renew your Reflect spell.
If he throws up a Reflect spell, equip the Magic Dagger and get in on him
until his Reflect runs out or he dies. After the Wizard dies, Claudius will
come out and attack you himself. Search the Wizard's body to get the Augment
scroll and some money. Kill the General the same way you nailed the
Mercenaries. Search his body to get the Shield. Use the Magnet to get back and
give the shield to the gate guards. (They let you keep the shield.)
The Rite of Valor: Kill the Hydra and Take it's Teeth
After you leave the Hall of Kings, Rakeesh will be smacked with a poisoned
dagger. Use the Poison Cure Pill on Rakeesh. Go out of town to the northern
Dragon Pillar. Get some wax from the hive sitting on the ground. Go back to
town, replenish your stuff and go to the Science Academy. Use the wax on the
wing frame behind the desk, then use your last Pegasus Feather on the waxy
frame to make the Icarus Wings. Before takeoff, make sure you have an Amphorae
handy. Get the wings to fly to Hydra Island. As a wizard, this is pretty easy.
Go to the Hydra Lair. Get some of the tree sap leaking out of that nearby tree
into your Amphorae. Then, walk over somewhere near the Hydra, and Elsa von
Spielburg will come and ask for help. Say yes, then tell her about how to
destroy the Hydra. When she chops a head off, throw a Flame Dart at the wound
to make sure it doesn't grow back. When you take out the Hydra, search it's
last dead head to get the Hydra Teeth and Hydra Scales. Tell Elsa to look
behind the Hydra, in his cave. Go back into the cave. She will take a Magic
Bow, and you get some cash, a Magic Helm, and whatever is in that chest over
there. Cast Trigger on the chest to spring the trap (jerks), then cast Open on
it. Take everything. Then, use the Magnet to get home, and give the teeth to
the gate guards. You can sell the scales to Salim.
The Rite of Destiny: Learn your Future from the Delos Sybil
Go back to your room at the Inn. Open your dresser drawers to get the spare
bedsheet. Go down and show the balloon picture to Gnome Ann, then give her the
sheet. Go to the bazaar, show the balloon picture to Marrak, and buy the
brazier. Rest until morning. Get the sewn sheet from Gnome Ann, and go to
Science Island. Go upstairs, and out the door. Use the little green flashing
monitor to get the crane to fish that winged gondola out of the water. I
forgot what the codes are, so you'll have to take a stab at it yourself.
Eventually, you'll get it. Use the sheet on the gondola. Tie it down with the
rope. Tighten the rope. Leak-proof the sheet with the tree sap. Install the
brazier under the balloon, and light it with your tinderbox. Follow your map
northwest to Delos. Land, and go to the Sybil's Grove. Fish the Black Lotus
out of the fountain, then flick a drachma into the fountain to turn on the
Sybil. After she shuts up (finally), get the Proof of Destiny. There is
supposed to be a way to get some Magic Wood for a staff from the Dryads, but I
haven't figured it out yet. If you figure it out, drop me a line. Anyway, ride
the airship over to the outside of town, land, and go back into town. (It's OK
to leave it around outside, noone will swipe it.) Get over to the Hall of
Kings and give the Proof of Destiny to the gate guards. You're supposed to
give the Black Lotus to Salim.
The Rite of Courage: Descend into Hell and Get Some Styx Water
Get 3 Amphorae ready, and replenish your stocks of heals and mana stuff and
stamina stuff. Now go outside of town, get in your airship, and ride it over
to where there is a litte skull icon. Land, and walk over to it. You will
notice a body next to a river and a broken Dragon Pillar. Push the body into
the water, and get some of the newly-fouled water in an Amphorae. Go over to
the left to the other side of the river (where it flows into the rocks) and
pour the fouled water into the river. You will open a portal to Hell. Try to
get in there. Oh, so Cerberus wants to be an assbag, eh? Let's teach him not
to screw with us. Use the Dazzle/Lightning Ball combo on Cerberus until he is
messed up. After the fight, he will let you through the portal. Be sure to get
yourself back to full. Get your Aura spell ready, too. Now, just avoid all the
undead. To keep from getting your life sucked away, keep throwing up Aura. Run
all the way to the right, as far as you can, and go through the door. Run
along the cliff until you reach a dragon's skull. Go down through it's mouth
and down it's tongue to get to the next screen. Here, run along for the bottom
path. Get some water from the whirlpool. Keep going along. Get some water from
the river too. Now go back and take the upper path to the temple. The Guardian
of the Dead will let you bring either Erana or Katrina back to life. I suggest
picking Erana. (I did, so I'm writing the walkthru that way) Say you'll pay
the price for her life. When you awaken, GET THE HELL OUT OF HELL!! But make
sure you got the Styx Water and the Lethe Water. When you get out, the portal
will dissapear. Ride back to town, and give the Styx Water to the gate guard.
Give the Lethe Water to Salim. Oh, hey, if you, by any chance, see a purple
box of chocolates in your room, DON'T EAT THEM! They are drugged. Give them to
Salim. Just wanted to let you know that.
The Rite of Peace: Establish a Peace Treaty Between Atlantis and Silmaria
First off, you're not gonna get too far if you drown. So, get back in the
airship and take a little trip to Erana's Hideaway on the island of Limnos (If
you can't find it, it's on your map). Talk to Erana about everything. She will
give you an Amulet of Waterbreathing. Equip it. Now, you need to know how to
swim. Go back to town (in the airship! don't use the magnet or you will lose
the airship!). Go to the Famous Adventurer. Get him to autograph a swimming
manual, then read it. Now, get out of town and fly the airship southwest until
you see a little statue icon. Land, and wade out to the icon. Swim to the
left. Now get out yer Open spell to get into....a fight...just skip these
guys. Go directly across to the Atlantean Hall of Kings. Cast Open on the door
to get in. A whole bunch of dudes attack you at once. You shouldn't use
Lightning Balls underwater (for obvious reasons) and Flame Darts will just
extinguish on creation, so throw Force Balls. Lucky for you, you can still use
a dagger, and you can still use Dazzle. After some fighting, ask the Queen for
a peace treaty. She will agree and give you a Peace Statue. Get back to town
and show it to the gate guards. Later, Gnome Ann will say that Ferrari will
foreclose on the Inn. Give the Peace Statue to Ferrari and he will give you
the lease.
The Rite of Justice: Find the Loser that is Responsible for All This Crap and
Kick His Butt
Okay, you don't even need to leave town to finish the Rites. Go to the
Apothecary and buy some of the new Poison Cure Pills. Go to the Dead Parrot
Inn, and piddle around like a tard until about midnight. Try to go back to the
Gnome Inn. You will be attacked by the assassin, who just happens to be Bruno
from Quest for Glory 1: So You Wanna Be A Hero! He will try to get his poison
in you. If he does, munch a Poison Cure Pill. If you run out and he sticks
you, don't worry; you won't die. Keep using that tried-and-true
Dazzle\Lightning Ball combo until you drop him. You should pass out. Tell
Logos you think that Minos is responsible, and that you think you should
confront him with your suspicions. He will end the Rite. Go back to your room
and sleep until morning. A guard will go to your room and take you to the Hall
of Kings. Accuse Minos of all crimes. He will warp back to his island.
The End of the Game
The Raid on Minos Island
Use the Dazzle/Lightning Ball combo on the Goons. Ignore the Mercenaries,
because they can't shoot a bow for crap. Cast Open on the front gate. Kill the
Goons, and cast Open on the front door. Kill the Goons and the two Centaur
Wizards. Go upstairs, and then go all the way to the left until you come to
the door on the left wall. Open the door. When Minos shuts up, get the
Interesting Toolkit and give it to Elsa. Use that old spell combo until Elsa
gets out and gets her Magic Sword and begins to kick major buttocks. After
Minos kills himself, raid his body and the Minotaur's body, kick Minos if you
want (great therapy!), then use the Trigger/Open combo on the 3rd gate to the
right on the left wall to get a whole bunch of potions and stuff. Erana (or
Katrina, whichever you picked) will warp in and warp you and Elsa and Toro to
the Dragon Blood Pool. Gort will show up too.
Battling the Dragon of Doom
Immediately ask Toro and Gort to fix the pillar. When the pillar is back up,
the Dragon will get to flying. When the Dragon lands, whack away at it with
some spells. You might wanna give Toro that new Minotaur Axe you took, so
he'll kick butt more efficiently. If you saved Erana, tell her to heal
different people that need it. If you picked Katrina, she will hammer the
Dragon with the Dragon Fire spell. In any case, someone's gonna die. It's
unavoidable. Just don't let it be you. After the Dragon is dead, you will be
back at the Hall of Kings. If you won all the Rites, you'll get a chance to
take the throne. If you don't want to become King, Elsa will step up and be
the new Queen. It's no big deal, this is the end of the game, so just do
whatever you want.
Congrats! You've beaten Quest for Glory V!
Anyway, if you want another walkthrough, just drop me a line at
[email protected]. When I figure out how to get my website up and running, I'll
start putting my walkthroughs there too.
