This is a guide to the many locations in the Mass Effect 2 galaxy, including
planets, clusters, mining sites, anomalies, and mission locations. Also
included are tips on getting the most out of your mining time, and how to
unlock the various clusters in the galaxy.

Location Types: [LOCAT]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are six basic types of locations that you can navigate to in the Mass
Effect 2 galaxy. They are: hubs, mission locations, resource worlds,
anomaly worlds, fuel depots, and mass effect relays.

Hubs are where you will spend a great deal of time in the game. Here you
can accept and carry out multiple missions, shop, gather intel, etc. I have
not listed missions for the hub worlds, as this is just a guide to the
planets. You can land and take off from hubs as many times as you like. The
four hubs are: Omega, the Citadel, Ilium, and Tuchanka.

Mission locations become available when given to you as part of a mission or
assignment. Many clusters are unlocked as a result of obtaining a mission
or assignment in that cluster. Mission locations could be worlds, space
stations, or other spacecraft. One you land on them or dock with them you
generally cannot take off until the mission is complete; once it is
complete, you cannot land again. Mission locations that are planets cannot
be scanned for resources. If the location is not on a planet, the location
itself might disappear once the mission is complete.

Resource worlds offer a chance for you to collect various minerals (Element
Zero, Iridium, Platinum, and Palladium), which are necessary for researching
weapon upgrades, armor upgrades, ship enhancements, and other abilities.
Each resource world has a rating of how many minerals exist on the planet.
The ratings are, in order, rich, good, moderate, poor, and depleted. Most
have iridium, platinum, and palladium; only a few worlds have all four
resources. These are the only two options; either a planet has the three
metals, or it has all four. No single-resource planets exist. More detail
on mining is given in the next section.

Anomaly worlds combine a mission and a resource world. Once you orbit an
anomaly world, EDI will inform you that an anomaly has been detected, and
a white arrow will guide your scanning reticle to the location. Send a probe
there to activate the mission or assignment (yes, there is a mission on an
anomaly world, Jacob: The Gift of Greatness). Anomaly worlds can also be
harvested for resources, and are usually quite rich in minerals. You can
collect resources before or after completing the mission, but, like mission
worlds, you cannot land on the planet again after completing the mission.

Fuel depots will sell fuel and probes. Fuel is necessary to travel between
systems within the same cluster; intrasystem travel does not consume fuel,
nor does traveling to a different cluster through a mass relay. Probes are
used to collect resources from resource planets, and to activate assignments
from anomaly worlds. Fuel is one credit per fuel unit (you can just hold
down the A button to fill the tank), and probes are 5 for 100 credits. Every
fuel depot is in a system with a mass relay, but not every mass relay is in
a system with a fuel depot. The systems with a relay but not a depot are:
Sol, Hoskins, Iera, Dholen, Widow, (until Firewalker DLC is downloaded) and
Fortis.

Mass Relays allow instantaneous travel across the galaxy to other clusters.
To travel to another cluster, just fly to the mass relay, press A, and you
will see the entire galaxy map. Select the cluster you want to travel to,
any you will go to the system in that cluster that has a mass relay. Each
cluster has only one system with a mass relay. As mentioned above, some
clusters have a mass relay but no fuel depot, but this is not really an
issue, since you can always use the relay to get to a system with a depot,
with no cost in fuel.

Mining Tips [MINET]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here I will dispense my own advice on making your mining time faster and
more productive.

The number one tip I can give is: don't waste your time on anything but rich
worlds. There are 90+ rich worlds in the galaxy, for about 2,000,000 total
resources, and that's not even counting the resources you pick up during
missions, so you'll run out of research long before you run out of rich
worlds.

To speed up mining, I highly recommend buying the Advanced Mineral Scanner
as soon as possible. You can unlock this upgrade by speaking to Miranda
after recruiting Mordin. This will allow the scanning reticle to move over
the surface of the planet much faster. However, it's still slow when holding
the left trigger to scan. How can we get around this problem? Simply TAP the
left trigger very quickly as you move the scanning reticle, this will allow
you to detect resources while moving the reticle quickly. Once you have
scanned an area of the planet and harvested the resources, rotate the planet
by moving the reticle to the right side and pushing both sticks to the
right. (The left stick moves the reticle, and the right one the planet, so
moving the both to the right rotates the planet faster.) Once a new side of
the planet is revealed, commence scanning again. Due to perspective issues,
you will have to rotate the planet 3 or 4 times to get all the way around.
To prevent the planet from rotating on its own, hold down or up on the right
stick. You should get about 15 probes' worth of minerals from a rich world,
and don't try to get every last resource.

The extra probe capacity (60) upgrade is also very helpful, but I would skip
the increased fuel capacity upgrade. The most fuel is will take for a round
trip to any system (from a mass relay) is 750 fuel (to Ondeste from Tasale
in the Crescent Nebula). Plus, the fuel capacity upgrade costs rare element
zero; in short, it costs more time to acquire the resources than it saves.
The probe capacity upgrade is available from Thane, and the fuel upgrade from
Samara.

See the description of the world that pops up before you scan; it's actually
quite useful. If the planet is a gas giant, it's probably only a moderate
world at best; if it has mining on it, or if the description mentions a
specific resource, it will probably have high amounts of that resource
(but will still have the other resources, at least in some quantity). Most
importantly, if the planet is inhabited, formerly inhabited, or is the site
of a starship wreck, it will probably have element zero.

The best place in the galaxy for element zero is Micah, in the Valhallan
Threshold cluster. There are three asteroids far from the star that all
have eezo in high quantities. For other minerals, try Hades Nexus; there are
eight worlds, seven of which are rich, and four of which have element zero.

The Firewalker Mission Pack improves mining considerably. Hades Nexus and
Caleston Rift are now accessible earlier in the game, and have more rich
worlds in them, making them even better mining zones. The Elysta system
and the Project Firewalker anomaly worlds have high amounts of minerals,
especially platinum, which has always been the hardest resource to find.

Cluster List [CLUST]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The systems in the Mass Effect galaxy are organized into clusters. Once you
get a mission in one system in a cluster, all of the systems in that cluster
are unlocked. The abbreviations used in the following table are:

resrc - resource world
anmly - anomaly world
missn - mission location or world
hub - hub location or world
depot - fuel depot
relay - mass relay
rich - resource level for this world is rich
good - resource level for this world is good
mdrt - resource level for this world is moderate
poor - resource level for this world is poor
dpltd - resource level for this world is depleted
E0 - element zero, a rare resource found on some worlds

The number preceding the location name is its position in orbit from the
star in the system. Since you won't know the name of the location before
you scan it, to find the location you want, just count the blue rings and
find the number that matches. The planet at orbit two, for instance, will
be on the second blue ring from the center. Some locations do not have an
orbit, so I have given them a number followed by a letter; the number is the
closest orbit to their location. Mass relays have an orbit, but fuel depots
do not. Widow and The Sea of Storms have no star, and therefore no orbits,
so their locations are orbit 0.

The columns are, respectively, the system name, the orbits of the locations,
the names of the locations, the types of the locations, the resource levels,
(if they are resource of anomaly worlds), whether it has element zero, and,
finally, the name of the mission that is carried out there (if it is a
mission or an anomaly world). Hubs each have multiple missions (too many to
list here).
