La-Mulana is an independently-developed Japanese platformer, with a very
massive scale to it. It was developed by a group called Nigoro. The game was
developed to counter the decreasing difficulty level of modern video games
without sacrificing other elements. The combination of challenging combat and
taxing puzzles has drawn thousands of fans to the game. If you are reading
this, you are now one of them.

This guide covers the American WiiWare release in 2012; it also covers the 2012
release for Windows, though there are some minor differences between the
Windows and WiiWare release. It does not cover the original 2005 PC release,
which is vastly different in many ways, nor does it cover the Japanese WiiWare
release of 2011 in which many items and locations have different names.

My first recommendation is: DO NOT use this walkthrough except as a last
resort. This game is more fun when you explore it on your own. Go out and try
to find some items and solve puzzles on your own; if after two hours you feel
like you've made zero progress and need help, then that's what this is here for.

The game itself is very non-linear. You can fight the Guardians and clear out
the areas in almost any order. I just try to present them in the most logical
fashion. You can, for example, complete Part XIII before Part IX.

®:Surface G-4 (Start)
Landmarks: Surface GRAIL POINT, Elder Xelpud, Surface Shop #1, Surface Shop #2
Pot contents: 10 coins

Collect the 10 coins from the pot and enter Xelpud's hut. He will give you some
information and the Xelpud Mailer software (xmailer.exe). Upon exiting his
tent, the other tents in the village will open. To the right is Surface Shop
#1; below you is Surface Shop #2.

Enter Surface Shop #1 and purchase the Hand Scanner using the 10 coins you just
procured from that pot. Once outside of the shop, make sure to equip the Hand
Scanner. Jump up and SAVE at the grail point, because we are going to go and
take our first big risk of the game. Head right into H-4.

®:Surface H-4
Enemies: 1x Cockatrice
Pots: 1 weight

Kill the cockatrice here and destroy the pot. Climb up the ladder into H-3.

®:Surface H-3
Enemies: 2x Cockatrice
Landmarks: Dais
Pots: ???

To the left of here is G-3, which contains nothing but allows you to drop into
G-4 (the village) without dealing with the Cockatrice in H-4. Ignore the dais
for now and make your way to the top right; proceed into I-3.

®:Surface I-3
Enemies: 1x Axe Head
Landmarks: Xelpud Statue
Pots: 10 coins
Treasure: Surface Map

Scan the skeleton here with the Hand Scanner to receive the Surface Map. Climb
up into Surface I-2

®:Surface I-2
Enemies: 2x Cockatrice, 2x Axe Head
Treasure: Shell Horn

Clear the enemies from here and place a weight on the dais to open the chest.
Whip open the chest to receive the Shell Horn. To the left of here is H-2,
which contains nothing but a Condor enemy and a drop into H-3. Proceed right to
J-2.

®:Surface J-2
Enemies: 2x Axe Head

Climb up from here to J-1

®:Surface J-1
Enemies: 5x Cockatrice
Pots: ???

Try not to get hit. You will need every ounce of life for the next task. Left
of here is I-1, which has a drop into I-2. Go to the upper right exit of J-1 to
reach K-1

®:Surface K-1
Enemies: 1x Condor
Pots: 10 coins
Treasure: Hidden chest with 30 coins.

Break open the pot to collect the coins, then drop down into the water.
Immediately turn left and whip the wall to the left of the waterfall. The water
will be draining your life and the condor will be attacking you, so go quickly.
10 hits will open up the wall and reveal a coin chest. Whip the chest and
collect the coins, then get out of the water. The easiest way to do this is the
jump over to the ledge on the right, then jump along the surface of the water
to the left to get back to J-1. You will have lost most of your health, but
with the coins from the chest you will save yourself a trip later on.

Carefully make your way back to the village (G-4). Cockatrice enemies often
drop Weights, so make sure to whip any you encounter.

Once back at G-4, proceed left into F-4.

®:Surface F-4
Landmarks: PC Shop, NPC Tent
Pots: 10 coins

Grab the coins from the pot and take the lower left exit to E-4.

®:Surface E-4
Enemies: 3x Axe Head
Pots: 1 weight

Take the bottom path left to D-4

®:Surface D-4
Enemies: 3x Axe Head
Landmarks: Hot Spring
Pots: 10 Coins

Break the pot here to collect 10 coins; then jump in the hot spring to refill
your health.

From here on out, I won't specify which pots to destroy. Just destroy any you
can.

You should now have at least 60 coins. Head back to F-4 and enter the PC Shop.
Buy the Glyph Reader software (reader.exe) for 50 coins and a pack of five
weights for 10 coins. Make sure to install the Glyph Reader in your software
menu.

Make your way back to H-3. This time, jump down to where the dais is. Walk past
the dais for now to take the lower right exit to I-3. Jump over the Xelpud
Statue and whip the wall to the right until it breaks, revealing the Death
Village software (deathv.exe). You don't need to install this now. Head back to
H-3 and place the weight on the dais. Drop down the hole you created and land
in H-5

®:Surface H-5
Landmarks: Split Gate

You can climb back up to H-4 an open up a shortcut by whacking the wall in the
center of H-4. Then return to H-5 and head right from there into I-5.

®:Surface I-5
Landmarks: Mural of Departure
Enter/Exit: Gate of Guidance C-1

Push the block out of the way to read the tablet here (you don't need the Glyph
Reader, if you haven't gotten it). Continue right and the wall on the right
side will retract, revealing the Field Gate; entrance to the Gate of Guidance
enter it.

Enemies: 1x Skeleton
Enter/Exit: Surface I-5

Take the upper right path to D-1

®:Gate of Guidance D-1
Enemies: 2x Bat
Pots: 10 coins
Treasure: 1st Sacred Orb

To unlock the chest, step on the floor switch on the platform beneath the
spikes. Grab the Sacred Orb to increase your maximum health. Head back to C-1
and take the lower right path back to C-1. Jump down the hole here (as in don't
fall straight down; jump towards the right) to land at the top of D-2.

Gate of Guidance D-2
Enemies: 1x Skeleton
Landmark: Gate of Guidance GRAIL POINT
Pots: ??? (upper), 10 coins (lower)

Make sure to read the Grail Tablet here, then head right into E-2

®:Gate of Guidance E-2
Enemies: 3x Snout Leapers
Pots: 10 Shuriken (left), 10 coins (right)

You cannot open the chest yet. Head right into F-2

®:Gate of Guidance F-2
Enemies: 3x Skeleton
Pots: 10 coins
Treasure: Shuriken Sub-Weapon

DO NOT whip the weapon box or you will be introduced to a lightning strike via
the Eye of Retribution. Just keep moving to the upper right to enter G-2

®:Gate of Guidance G-2
Enemies: 4x Bat
Pots: 10 coins
Treasure: Coin chests
Enter/Exit: Spring in the Sky

Place a weight on the dais here to drop the wall. You can climb into the Spring
in the Sky here but I recommend holding off on that for now. Climb down to the
lower part of the room and place another weight to unlock the chests in the
center of the room. Do not whip them open yet, as you cannot reach them. Head
back to the upper left but this time go down the upper ladder to get into the
middle part of F-2

Kill the skeleton and break the pot if you like, just be careful you don't hit
the sacred box. The important thing here is to jump down into the spikes. These
spikes are fake; the rest of the spikes in the game are very real, though. Once
the illusion of the spikes is gone, place a weight on the dais here and climb
back up to claim the Shuriken sub-weapon. Equip them if you wish, but do not
overuse them on common enemies.

Head back to the left until you reach the Grail Tablet in D-2. Save here and
then climb down the lower-right ladder into D-3.

®:Gate of Guidance D-3
Enemies: 4x Antlion
Landmarks: Jaw Trap
Pots: 10 coins

The enemies here are known as Myrmecoleon but Antlion is just easier to
remember. Don't place a weight on the dais here or the jaw of the Olmec head
above you will fall and damage you. Once you're done here, head left into C-3

®:Gate of Guidance C-3
Enemies: 3x Antlion
Pots: 10 coins
Treasure: Gate of Guidance Map

Place a weight on the dais to access the Gate of Guidance Map. You can't use it
yet, though. Climb down to C-4.

®:Gate of Guidance C-4
Enemies: 3x Bat
Treasure: Hidden chest with 30 coins

Whip the block in the Olmec head's mouth three times to make it swallow it.
Avoid being knocked down into the pit below and work your way to the upper
right and the path to D-4

®:Gate of Guidance D-4
Sub-Boss: Red Skeletons
Enemies (after defeating Sub-Boss): 2x Bats
Landmarks: Ancient Mayan Airship Mural
Pots: ??? (upper) ??? (lower)

Ignore the miniboss for now. Drop down a level and then jump to the left to
re-enter C-4. Trying to walk across will drop you down a trap door. Place a
weight on the dais where you landed in C-4 to reveal and alcove with a coin
chest. Walk back into D-4 and press the jump button as fast as you can to jump
straight up into the air. Once you start falling through the trap door, press
your direction to the left. If all goes well, you should fall into the alcove
where you can open the chest and claim the coins inside. Once you do, jump out
of the alcove toward the right. You will pass into D-4 and fall down into D-5.

®:Gate of Guidance D-5
Enemies: 3x Kodama Rat
Pot Contents: ???

Do not whip the strange-looking structure in the center of the room. You will
be zapped if you do. Head up to the top of the room and climb the ladder into
D-4. You will immediately be confronted by a Red Skeleton. Whip him as fast as
you can; you will take some hits. After the bottom skeleton is dispatched,
climb partway up the ladder on the right. If you face left or right and attack,
your whip will strike above you, allowing you to take out the 2nd skeleton
without being attacked. The experience gained from both skeletons should be
enough to refill your life bar.

®:Gate of Guidance E-4
Enemies: 3x Bat, 3x Skeleton
Landmarks: Block Puzzle, Mechanical God Mural

Push the lower-right block to the right, off the edge. Then push the lower-left
block the same direction so that it lands on top. Then push the upper block
(which only appears after killing the Red Skeletons) off the top platform, then
to the left over the other blocks so that it falls down on top of the plate.
Completing the puzzle will reveal a dais in the upper-right part of the room.
If you have less than five weights, you should leave this for later. Placing a
weight there reveals a ladder down to E-5 but there's nothing to be done there
yet.

Walk past the explorer's skeleton on the right side of the room through the
wall; it is a secret passage to B-4.

®:Gate of Guidance B-4
Enemies: 3x Bat, 2x Tog Head
Landmarks: Block Puzzle, NPC Door
Pots: ??? (left), 10 coins (right)
Treasure: Holy Grail

Push the block right onto the plate to unlock the chest. Head back into E-4,
then back to B-4 again to reset the Tog Heads. Climb up the ladder and jump
across to the right side of the room before the Togs can spawn. Climb up the
ladder and open the chest to receive the Holy Grail. You can now WARP to Grail
Points you have read.

If you have spare weights, you can place one on the dais to the left to remove
the barrier blocking the NPC's door. When you're done, either jump down the pit
or ride the elevator down to B-5. Watch out for the spikes!

®:Gate of Guidance B-5
Enemies: 3x Bat, 2x Tog Head
Pots: 10 coins (left), 10 coins (right)

Head to the pit on the bottom left and drop down to B-6. Walk left from B-6 to
A-6.

®:Gate of Guidance A-6
Enemies: 3x Kodama Rat
Landmarks: Disaster Puzzle
Enter/Exit: Mausoleum of the Giants

Head to the left side of the room. In order, destroy the top-left tablet
(rain), the bottom-left tablet (wind), the top-right tablet (fire) and the
bottom-right tablet (blood rain and fire). If you mess up the puzzle you will
be hit by lightning and forced to leave the area and return to reset the
puzzle. Ignore the ladder at the bottom for now.

Place a weight on the dais in the right side of the room and go right through
the path it unlocks to reach the Gate of Guidance Shop. You can by a Guild
software here, but I prefer to wait until later. If you are short on weights,
you can buy some here. When you're done shopping, head left back into A-6. This
time take the bottom right path into B-6.

®:Gate of Guidance B-6
Enemies: 3x Kodama Rat
Landmarks: Gate of Guidance Shop
Pots: ??? (bottom), 10 coins (top)

Climb the ladder you created by solving the Disaster Puzzle and place a weight
on the dais. Head back down the ladder and left into A-6. This time, take the
second path from the top into B-6. Make your way to the very top-right ladder
and climb up to B-5, then walk right into C-5.

®:Gate of Guidance C-5
Enemies: 6x Snout Leaper
Landmarks: Cross of Light

Walk right along the bottom path through the one-way door into D-5.

When you were in D-5 before, you could not access the lower-left part of the
room. Solving the Disaster Puzzle and placing the weight in B-6 created the
dais in the lower-left. Place a weight there to reveal the center of the room
and the chest within. Climb down to the chest and claim Ankh Jewel #1.

Warp back to the surface. Now that you have more coins, return to the PC Shop
and buy the Yagoo Map Reader software (yagomap.exe), and make sure to turn it
on. Also buy a few more packs of weights, if you did not do so at the Gate of
Guidance Shop.

Fill up at the hot spring and warp back to the Gate of Guidance. Make your way
to C-3 (where you got the map). This time, proceed left to B-3

®:Gate of Guidance B-3
Enemies: 4x Bat
Landmarks: Amphisbaena Mural
Pots: ??? (left), ??? (right)

Push the weight on the platform to the left onto the plate. This will reveal a
ladder and dais above you. Use the elevator platform to jump up to the top of
the room, then climb down the ladder and place a weight there. Climb back up
the ladder. From where you are standing, there is an invisible bridge to the
right. walk across it into C-3 and the ladder at the top of the screen. Take
the ladder up; This will allow you to access the coin chests you opened
earlier. They each contain 30 coins. However, it is a one-way ladder. You now
have to warp back to the Grail Point and work your way back to B-3.

Once you get back to B-3, cross the invisible bridge into C-3 again. This time,
place a weight on the dais in C-3 to remove a wall and continue right across
another invisible bridge. When you get to the right edge of C-3, JUMP to the
right into D-3; this invisible bridge does not extend all the way across and if
you try to keep walking you will fall down.

Now that you're here, climb down the ladder and place a weight on the dais down
there. The Shell Horn will sound.

Warp back to a grail tablet to save. Make sure your health is full; if not,
head back to the Surface and use the hot spring. Make your way to D-4 (the room
with the Red Skeleton miniboss and Ancient Mayan Airship Mural. If you did not
place a weight on the dais in E-4, take the middle path and do so now.
Otherwise, take the bottom path from D-4 into E-4 and go down the ladder into
E-5.

Gate of Guidance E-5 - GUARDIAN ROOM

Once you enter the room the ankh in the bottom of the room will glow and the
music will change. If this does not happen, you missed a step. Go back and look
again. Equip the Ankh Jewel subweapon and use it on the Ankh.

****************************
* Guardian #1: Amphisbaena *
****************************

One head will shoot fire at you, then after a delay the other one will. The
fire is not very long, so you can dodge it.

You can decide how to take the boss down. The easiest method is to attack
either head with Shurikens from a distance and dodge the fire when it comes. A
more dangerous method is to lure a head down towards you and hit it with your
whip (or other main weapon) when it is not attacking, then run away quickly.
Direct contact with a head does 16 damage, so this is risky. However, it is
wise to conserve Shuriken this early in the game. The decision is yours. As the
boss loses health, its attacks and movements will speed up.

If you have a hard time with the boss, you can put it off until later.
Defeating Amphisbaena does not unlock anything vital right now.

Once Amphisbaena is defeated, Xelpud will email you. You should go back to the
village to buy more weights and shuriken if necessary. You will need at least
20 shuriken for the next boss fight, but 30 or 40 is better.

Once you have taken care of business on the Surface, warp back to the Gate of
Guidance and make your way to A-5. This time, go down the ladder to enter an
new area: the Mausoleum of the Giants. You start off in B-1

®:Mausoleum of the Giants B-1
Enemies: 3x Nozuchi
Pots: 10 coins (top), ??? (bottom)
Enter/Exit: Gate of Guidance

Make your way to the bottom right. Place a weight on the dais to remove the
wall and go right into the bottom of C-1. Throw five Shuriken at the wall you
are facing; it will break revealing a coin chest containing 30 coins. Head back
to B-1 and drop down to B-2.

®:Mausoleum of the Giants B-2
Enemies: 4x Nozuchi
Pots: 10 coins

Head down to the left side of the room and place a weight on the dais to remove
a wall. Walk right past the wall until the ground beneath you crumbles and
allows you to drop down. Head left from here into A-2.

®:Mausoleum of the Giants A-2
Sub-Boss: Ghost Lord
Enemies: 3x Ghost
Treasure: Rolling Shuriken sub-weapon

Ghosts will endlessly spawn here. You must kill three of them to cause the
miniboss to appear. Take care to not whip the sacred box or you will be hit
with lightning. If you climb up to where the miniboss is forming, you can hit
him repeatedly. Otherwise, get to the bottom of the screen and hit him whenever
he comes down toward you. Defeating him opens the box containing the Rolling
Shuriken. Once you're done here, head back to B-2.

You will need to use another weight to remove the wall you passed through
before. Climb back up and move right to C-2

®:Mausoleum of the Giants C-2
Enemies: 2x Masked Men, 1x Tog Head'
Landmarks: Cross of Light
Treasure: Mausoleum of the Giants Map

Press the floor switch here and move right to D-2

®:Mausoleum of the Giants D-2
Enemies: 3x Skeleton, 1x Bat
Landmarks: Nazca Lines Alien Mural
Pots: 10 coins

You'll want to head right here to climb the ladder up to D-1. Be careful, as
the ground on the bottom will crumble beneath your feet if you try to walk
across, and there is a trap door on the platform above it. The top route is
difficult because of the spikes. Make your way over regardless and go up.

®:Mausoleum of the Giants D-1
Enemies: 4x Bat, 2x Tog Head
Landmarks: NPC Door
Pots: 10 coins (left) 1 weight (right)

Reading the tablet in the upper right will activate Hard Mode for the remainder
of the game. I advise against this. The NPC in the upper left gives you
information on the Nebra Sky Disk, which will come into play later. For now,
head left into C-1.

®:Mausoleum of the Giants C-1
Enemies: 2x Masked Men, 1x Tog Head
Treasure: Mausoleum of the Giants Map
Pots: 10 Rolling Shuriken (left), ??? (right)

Place a weight on the dais in the bottom of the room. If you did this before
pressing the floor switch in C-2, it would activate a trap. Now you are in the
clear. Head back down to C-2 to claim the Mausoleum of the Giants Map. Walk
right into D-2 and allow the floor on the bottom to break, allowing you access
to D-3.

®:Mausoleum of the Giants D-3
Enemies: 1x Rock Hand

Beware of the Rock Hand enemies. They deal 8 damage, which is a lot right now.
You can kill them with one hit if you strike them while they charge at you.
Once you land at the bottom of D-3, head right to E-3.

®:Mausoleum of the Giants E-3
Enemies: 3x Nozuchi, 1x Bat
Pots: 10 coins (left) ??? (right)
Landmarks: Mausoleum of the Giant GRAIL POINT.

Read the Grail Tablet and save. Head right into F-3.

®:Mausoleum of the Giants F-3
Enemies: 1x Rock Hand, 3x Nozuchi
Pots: 1 weight (top) Shop (bottom)
Landmarks: Wondjina mural, Mausoleum of the Giants Shop.

Destroy the pot to reveal the shop. Enter the shop and buy the Hermes Boots
items, which increase your speed. After exiting the shop, go to the bottom of
the screen and left into E-3 again. Jump down or take the elevator down from
E-3 to E-4.

®:Mausoleum of the Giants E-4
Enemies: 1x Tog Head, 2x Ghost
Landmarks: Nazca Lines Hand Mural
There is nothing you can do here. Head further down to E-5

®:Mausoleum of the Giants E-5
Enemies: 2x Tog Head, 2x Ghost
Landmarks: Nazca Lines Tree Mural

There are some interesting tablets to read here but that's all. Climb down the
ladder on the left to E-6.

®:Mausoleum of the Giants E-6
Enemies: 3x Ghost
Landmarks: Nebra Sky Disk

Jump into the switch on the left to turn the wheel so that the star icon is at
the top. Once this is done, warp back to the Grail Point at E-3. Go right from
E-3 through F-3 to G-3.

®:Mausoleum of the Giants G-3
Enemies: 4x Bat
Landmarks: Nazca Lines Dolphin Mural
Treasure: Ankh Jewel

Place a weight on the dais to unlock the chest. Make your way back to the
elevator and head down to E-4. Exit the elevator here and go right into F-4.

®:Mausoleum of the Giants F-4
Enemies: 1x Rock Hand, 3x Ghost
Pots: ??? (left) ??? (right)
Treasure: 2nd Sacred Orb

Place a weight on the foot of the Giant on the right. This will unlock the
chest containing the 2nd Sacred Orb. Placing a weight on the feet of any other
giant will trigger a spike trap. Collect the orb.

®:Mausoleum of the Giants G-4
Enemies: 1x Rock Hand, 3x Ghost
Pots: ??? (left) 10 coins (right)

Once you enter G-4, stay on the left-hand side until the Giant (his name was
Bado) collapses to the ground. If you are under him when he collapses, you die
instantly. Climb on top of Bado's head and climb up the ladder to G-3. Get over
to the chest in G-3 to claim the Ankh Jewel. Once you grab the Ankh Jewel, move
to the left immediately or a laser will trap you here. You can disable the
laser ahead of time by destroying the face on the right side of the middle
platform. If you end up trapped, just warp back to the Grail Point. Either way,
head back to E-6.

Jump on the left switch twice to set the Nebra Sky Disk to Sun. Climb back up
to where you saw Bado (G-4). Bado won't fall this time; walk past him to the
right into H-4.

®:Mausoleum of the Giants H-4
Enemies: 3x Ghost
Pots: ??? (left) ??? (right)
Enter/Exit: Twin Labyrinths

Place a weight on the dais that is in the chest of the giant here (Ledo). The
dais will not appear unless the Nebra Sky Disk is set to Sun.

Now we will take a little detour. Go down the ladder to enter the Twin
Labyrinths. Make sure you have at least 100 coins first.

You don't have any real business here, and you cannot navigate the area
normally, so I will not detail map locations right now. From where you enter,
go down the ladder in the bottom left. Enter the shop at the top of this room;
buy the Helmet for 60 coins and three sets of weights at 10 coins each. Exit
the shop then re-enter it and the shopkeeper will inform you of another shop in
this area. You won't need to do that much later; you can do it now if you still
have over 100 coins left. Just go up the ladder on the right then back down to
reach a room with a different shop. Buy the Dragon Bone here if you have 100
coins; if not you can return here much later.

Warp back to the Mausoleum of the Giants and return to the Nebra Sky Disk in

®:Mausoleum of the Giants C-5 - GUARDIAN ROOM
Pots: ??? (left) 10 coins (right)

Upon entering the room, wait for the Giant (Ji) on the left to kneel, which he
only does when the Nebra Sky Disk is set to Moon. The Ankh should appear; you
can reach it now that Ji is kneeling (or if you've done some serious sequence
breaking) Use your Ankh Jewel on the Ankh to reveal the guardian of this area:
Sakit.

**********************
* Guardian #2: Sakit *
**********************

Sakit can be pretty tough, so you may want to put this off until later in the
game. If you want to fight him now, it can be done.

As soon as you land on the ground, run to the right and climb the ladder.

Sakit has three attacks right now
-Rocks will fall from the ceiling as a result of his footsteps
-He can fire an energy ball from his right hand
-He can shoot his left arm out as some sort of extendo-punch.

The falling rocks are easy to dodge. Just stand on the middle platform on the
right and they cannot hit you; you can also destroy them with the Whip. If he
begins charging an energy ball, climb up to the top platform and jump; this
will cause him to aim to high and the energy ball will soar over your head.

The extension of his left arm is your chance to strike. Once his fist hits the
ground, run up his arm until you are close enough to jump up and whip his face.
DO NOT jump into his face... that will hurt. After whipping him a couple times,
jump off to the right before his arm retracts (that will also hurt). Repeat
this process a number of times until he changes to his second form.

Once Sakit's face plate falls off, his attack will change, slightly. Instead of
energy beams, he now shoots his right fist at you in a rocket punch. Just like
with the energy beams, you can force him to shoot over his head by jumping high
when he is aiming. He still extends his left arm out but he now has harmful
flames coming out of his shoulder, making it hard to run up and whip him in the
face. However, he is now vulnerable to Shurikens. Your best strategy is to stay
on the top platform, jumping and shooting Shuriken into Sakit's face. It takes
about 20 Shuriken to finish off his 2nd form and end the battle.

The battle done and your health restored, move left to B-5

Pendant. To open the chest, go through the doorway on the bottom left. This
will return you to D-1. Warp back to the Grail Point in A-1 to claim the map.
Warp back to the Surface to talk to Xelpud and heal up. You should still have
plenty of weights, but you will need to buy Shuriken. I recommend having around
40, but newer players may need as many as 80.

Part IV: Jump into the Sun [SUN01]

When you feel prepared, warp to the Gate of Guidance Grail Point at D-2. Drop
down three levels to D-5 (where you found the Ankh Jewel). Go to the
lower-right corner of the room and place a weight on the dais here. Climb down
the ladder to enter the Temple of the Sun.

Climb up and go back left to B-2; climb up the ladder there and go back right

from the rest of the wall. Whip it until it disappears and climb up to C-1.

®:Temple of the Sun C-1
Enemies: 1x Cait Sith
Landmarks: Temple of the Sun GRAIL POINT, The White Giant Mural
Treasure: Temple of the Sun Map

Upon entering the lower-left part of the room, step on the floor switch
immediately to your right to unlock the chest. Then head left back into B-1.
Destroy the pot here and then whip the lever behind the pot. If you did not
destroy the block in C-2, then a wall will trap you here. Drop back down to B-2
to see the platforms reveal themselves, then climb your way back out. You will
be in C-1 next to a mine cart. Push the cart to the right until it falls down.
Jump across the pit to the Grail Point to read it/SAVE.

Climb down the ladder to get the map. To make the ladder reappear, just push
the statue in this area all the way to the right.

Note that if you did not purchase the Hermes Boots in the Mausoleum of the
Giants Shop, you will not be able to climb up the sandy slopes in the Temple of
the Sun. If you don't have them, warp back to the Mausoleum of the Giants and
buy them.

Once you have the map and the grail point, drop down into C-2. Push the cart to
the right again. Once it falls, get up to the top of this room and walk right
into D-2.

®:Temple of the Sun D-2
Enemies: 1x Mask, 2x Cait Sith
Landmarks: Temple of the Sun Shop #1
Pots: 10 coins (lower right)
Treasure: Knife weapon

You need to jump up and shoot Shuriken through the gap between the face wall
and the ceiling in order to destroy the pot on the top-right of this room. If
you hit the face wall, you will be zapped. Once the pot is destroyed, the face
will will disappear. Climb down the ladder on the right to reach a dais; place
a weight here to remove the wall. Then step in the floor switch to open the
sacred box. You will have to go back up the ladder and into C-2, then enter D-2
from the second level in order to reach the Knife.

The Knife does more damage than the Whip and hits much faster; it can hit
enemies beneath you without using Rolling Shuriken. Its range is shorter but I
prefer it to the Whip for now, because it can destroy pots and enemies much
faster. The Hedge and Mask enemies here are very annoying; they take two hits
with the Whip and only one with the Knife. If you're not comfortable getting
too close to your enemies, stick with the Whip.

Anyway, once you grab the Knife, climb down the ladder to your right. Destroy
the pots here and you can enter the Temple of the Sun Shop #1. Buy the TextTrax
software (bunemon.exe) here; once it's running on your laptop, you will be able
to save conversations and tablet contents for later reading. This will help you
if you want to try and solve some of the puzzles in the ruins without this
guide. Head back up the ladder and left into C-2, then descend into C-3.

®:Temple of the Sun D-4

Standing on the blue platform with the mine cart will cause the platform to
descend. If it does not, leave the room and try again. Once the platform
descends, push the mine cart to the right. Then go back to the top of the room
and climb the ladder back into D-4.

If you did not kill the bats here before, wait for them to come to you and kill
them. Do not hit the treasure chest while it is closed or you will get zapped.
Once the two bats are dead, the chest will unlock and you can open it to claim
the Sacred Orb. Head right from the treasure chest into E-4.

Read the tablet and walk right through the wall to your left; it will
disappear. Continue left back into D-3 and press the floor switch here, then go
back to the right to E-3. With the whip equipped, stand beneath the Sun. Jump
up and whip it four times until it comes a little bit loose. Then move to the
right and jump up and whip it from the right side twice; it will fall off. If
you stand under it or to the left when it comes off, you will be instantly
crushed to death. Jump into the empty space created left behind and you will
warp to a new area.

drop down, revealing a ladder you can use to reach the top of this room. You
can access the Twin Labyrinths from here, but there's really no need. Head back
to C-2 from the bottom-left.

Climb the ladder in the bottom-right of C-2 and work your way left to B-2. I'll
go into detail on B-2 later; for now, just jump off the wall here to reach the
ladder leading to B-1.

Enter/Exit: Eden

Place a weight on the dais up top to pass the wall. You can climb into Eden
from here but there is nothing to do there yet. There is also a hidden treasure
chest in this room but you cannot get to it yet. We shall return here later, I
promise. Anyway, drop down the pit on the right side of the room to get back
into B-2.

®:Temple of Moonlight B-2
Enemies: 2x Troll
Landmarks: Temple of Moonlight GRAIL POINT
Pots: ??? (top) ??? (bottom)
Treasure: Temple of Moonlight Map

Read the Grail Tablet here and save. You cannot warp to this tablet yet but the
game will remember that you've read it. To the left of the grail tablet is a
trap door that will drop you into the main chamber. You cannot access the map
from there, so place a weight on the dais and walk back into C-2, then make
your way back to the top of B-1.

You cannot read the tablet at the top of B-1, even with the Glyph Reader. Jump
toward the left from the left side of B-1 (do not drop down into B-2). Landing
in the alcove here will give you access to A-1.

®:Temple of Moonlight A-1
Enemies: 3x Skulleton
Landmarks: Face Of The Highest Rank
Pots: 10 coins
Treasure: Grapple Claw

Carefully jump from platform to platform, killing the Skulletons and reaching
the top platform. Examine the face there with the Hand Scanner to make a light
briefly appear, then jump down to place a weight on the dais, unlocking the
chest. Open the chest to claim the Grapple Claw. You can play around with the
Grapple Claw for a bit if you want (press up while jumping into a wall to
cling, then press the jump button to kick off, or release up to drop down).

If you get knocked down, you'll have to backtrack a bit to return to this room
(and waste weights doing it), so try not to mess up. Jump down to A-2 and
prepare to smash some skeletons.

®:Temple of Moonlight A-2
Enemies: 4x Skulleton, 2x Skilleton

Nothing you can really do about the Skilleton's projectiles. Just get in close
and knife them until they explode. The drop down to the lower level is on the
left. From there, head right to climb up the ladder and return to B-2.

Jump across from where you entered B-2 to get to where the map is. Place a
weight on the dais below the chest to walk to left immediately to avoid the
spike trap. Collect the map and exit out the lower right of B-2, returning to
C-2.

There is a new dais in C-2 but you have to ignore it for now. It was created
when you scanned the face in A-1. What you need to do now is jump down the pit
here into C-3; do it from the right side of pit, jumping left so that you land
on the top-left platform in C-3. If you miss the platform, you'll have to warp
back to the Temple of the Sun and walk all the way back here.

Once you've landed on the platform, stab the wall in the top-left of the room
until it shatters, allowing you to walk into B-3 (does not appear on the
in-game map)

®:Temple of Moonlight B-3
Enemies: 4x Yowie
Landmarks: Boulder Trap
Pots: ???
Treasure: Axe

Place a weight on the dais to access the rest of the room. Make sure to kill
all the Yowies so that they aren't in your way, but do not hit the sacred box
while doing it. Once the area is clear, use the knife the break the skull
holding the boulder in place at the top left of the room (it takes 8 hits).
Jump to the right from there and use the Grapple Claw to cling to the vertical
wall there. If you fail, the boulder will roll down onto you and you will die
instantly.

Once the boulder crushes the block on the bottom right, you will be able to
drop down and claim the Axe. The Axe does 250% more damage than the Whip; it
strikes above you and in front of you. The drawback is that it is very slow.
Regardless, it should be your primary weapon for now; I still switch to the
Knife to destroy pots and walls. That's all for the Temple of Moonlight for
now. Warp back to the Surface and heal if need be. If you have over 150 coins,
go ahead and buy the Waterproof Case and some extra Shuriken. If not, hold off
until later.

You can do many different things now. The Guardian of the Temple of Sun is
awaiting us [SUN02]; you can start solving puzzles in the Spring in the Sky
[SKY01] or you can explore the Inferno Cavern and acquire some important items
there [INF01]. There are other things to be done but those are the three main
paths. You can complete them in any order; I prefer to head to the Spring in
the Sky.

========================================
Part VI: Open the Floodgates [SKY01]

Warp to Gate of Guidance D-2 and head to the right until you reach G-2. Climb
up the ladder on the right to reach the Spring in the Sky.

Treasure: Caltrops sub-weapon

Without the Helmet, the waterfall here will push you down quite unforgivingly

all the way down. Then place a weight on the dais that appears below.

Take the upper-right path back to D-2. Jump into the pool of water that has
formed below and strike the gear on the lower-left with the Knife until it
starts turning again. Warp back to the Grail Point in B-7. Climb down the
ladder into B-8.

Head to the left side of the room and strike the mechanism in the top left
until it breaks (three Axe hits does it). Then go and climb back to B-9. Enter
the water area here and head to the chain pulley; strike it until it starts
turning.

Swim out of the top right of the room to return to C-9. Exit the water to where
the ladder is; instead of climbing up, walk left through a secret passage into
B-9. Walk all the way left until you are stopped, then stab the wall until it
shatter, revealing the chest with 30 coins inside.

You don't have to do this next part yet, but you might as well. I recommend it.
Head back down to B-10 and watch the water drain away. Drop down the hole and
you'll find yourself in Temple of the Sun F-3. You can go to the NPC Chamber
here if you like, or break the pots that you can now access. Avoid the Sphinx
and drop down into the area you have just flooded. Swim right into G-4.

right), 10 Rolling Shuriken (top/right), 1 weight (top/2nd from left), dais
(top/left).
Treasure: Bronze Mirror
Enter/Exit: Chamber of Extinction

Swim undereath the Origin Seal and a gush a water will push you up so you can
break it. This will remove the barriers blocking the doors to the right, which
lead to the Chamber of Extinction. Don't break the pots here since you cannot
get to them yet. Head into the bottom doorway and enter the Chamber of
Extinction.

It's dark in here. Head down the ladder and to the right, killing the Naga
there. Jump up and to the right from the tablet and you should see an emblem on
a block. Jump up and strike it until the Shell Horn sounds, then head back to
the left to return to the Temple of the Sun G-4.

Striking the mirror opened up access to the center area of this room. Smash all
the pots and collect all the goodies within, then place a weight on the dais
that appears where the top-left pot was. This unlocks the chest and enables you
to collect the Bronze Mirror. You can now access the Graveyard of the Giants
[GRV01] if you want, but obtaining the best treasures there requires items you
do not possess yet. You can also explore the Chamber of Extinction and
potentially acquire a powerful sub-weapon and another Sacred Orb, but you'll
mostly be stumbling around in the dark. You should warp back to the Surface and
heal up/save.

Part VII: What the Hell Is That Thing
=========================================

Warp off the Temple of the Sun C-1. Go into B-1 and then jump down to B-2.
Either angle your jump or use the Grapple Claw so that you land on the
platforms which appeared when the room was illuminated. Use those platforms to
get over to the left passage into A-2; if you fall off the platforms, you will
have to warp back to C-1 and start over.

®:Temple of the Sun A-2
Sub-Boss: Buer
Enemies (after Sub-Boss defeated): 1x Hedge, 2x Bat
Enter/Exit: Inferno Cavern

When you enter, Buer will appear on the platform above the bottom of the room.
Jump and strike him from below with the Axe; it will only take a few hits to
vanquish him. If he moves up to a higher level, follow him up there and
continue to strike with the Axe. If he goes to ground level, use your Rolling
Shuriken to hit him. If you do not have the Axe yet, then your Shuriken and
Rolling Shuriken are the way to go.

Defeating Buer clears the path to the Inferno Cavern. Pass that up for now.
Exit back into B-2 then turn back into A-2 again. Jump up to the platform in
the upper-right part of the room and hit the ceiling above you with the Axe or
Whip. It will break, revealing a ladder into A-1 (does not appear on in-game
map). If the ceiling does not break, it's because you forgot to talk to the
fairy queen in the Endless Corridor.

®:Temple of the Sun A-1
Landmarks: Statue of Isis
Treasure: Isis Pendant

Read the tablet in the bottom left and a dais will appear on the bottom right.
Place a weight on the dais in unlock the chest so you can claim the Isis
Pendant. Warp back to the Endless Corridor and talk to the fairy queen again.
The fairies will help you now.

It's time to finish off this area. Warp back to Temple of the Sun C-1. drop
down two levels to C-3 and break the Origin Seal beneath Mulbruk's chamber. Now
you can enter Mulbruk's chamber and speak to her. You can exit and enter her
chamber multiple times to learn different things about the ruins; eventually
she will be stuck repeating the same thing and you can move on.

Head right from C-3 then down two more screens to D-5. The Bronze Mirror will
reveal a door here but it is not open yet. Instead, take the upper-right path
to E-5

Placing a weight on the dais at the bottom will trap you and force you to warp
out using the Holy Grail. Exit out the bottom left of this room to reach B-5.

®:Temple of the Sun B-5
Enemies: 1x Cait Sith, 1x Hedge, 1x Mask
Landmarks: Eye of Wedjet
Treasure: Ankh Jewel

Head left and stand underneath the Eye. Do not place a weight on the dais; that
will cause the eye to fall, damaging you and forcing you to exit the Temple of
the Sun to reset the puzzle. Remain under the eye until the Shell Horn sounds
and the chest above is unlocked. Head back into C-5, then go up one level and
return to B-5, where you can claim the Ankh Jewel. Return to the Surface to
heal up and buy Shuriken if you are lacking. Make your way back to D-5. Drop
down the hole in the bottom right to access D-6.

®:Temple of the Sun D-6 - GUARDIAN ROOM

If the Ankh does not appear, then you forgot to push the mine cart down here.
Backtrack and make sure to push it to the right wherever you encounter it. When
you are prepared, use the Ankh Jewel on the Ankh to spawn a mine cart battle
against

***********************
* Guardian #3: Ellmac *
***********************

So in the first area there were snake murals and you fight a big snake at the
end. The second area with a giants' mausoleum and you fought a giant. Here, at
the end of an Egyptian-themed era, you were probably expected some sort of
Egyptian-themed boss like a mummy or something, right? Wrong. You get to fight
a bloody dinosaur.

As soon as you land on the mine cart track, move to the right. If Ellmac lands
on you, it is instant death.

The traditional theory with Ellmac is to keep your distance and fire Shuriken
at his face; this works if you have 80 or more Shuriken. I find it to be bolder
and more effective to use your main weapons as well.

When the mine cart is at the bottom level, there is nothing you can do but try
to dodge Ellmac's fireballs. The best tactic is the wait near the right edge of
the screen but not all the way at the edge. When he starts shooting, jump
towards the right and the fireballs should land harmlessly to the left of you.

When the mine cart is at a middle level, you can jump up and fire shuriken at
Ellmac. He is invulnerable when he closes his mouth to charge up his fireballs.

When the track comes up to level parallel to Ellmac's head, move left to get
close enough to hit with your Axe or Knife, then retreat for the right before
Ellmac charges at you. The Axe has a better range and does more damage per
strike, but the Knife can hit 2 or 3 times. It is up to you.

When Ellmac's health gets low, he will move faster, meaning the mine cart will
move faster and change altitude more frequently.

Direct contact with Ellmac does 18 damage. Getting hit by a fireball does 8
damage; passing through the flame left by a fireball after it hits the track
does 16 damage.

Because Ellmac's damage output is rather high, you can put him off until later.
However, you cannot access the bottom half of the Temple of Moonlight until you
defeat him.

After defeating Ellmac, you will land in a hazy area of the Twin Labyrinths
with a countdown displayed on the screen. Use the Holy Grail to warp out of
here before the countdown hits zero. If it reaches zero, you will die instantly.

Head to the waterfall on the Surface (K-1) Now that you have the Scalesphere,
the water will not harm you. Head to the edge of the platform in K-1 and jump

land on a platform in L-2 and hopefully you will kill the Condor here with the
knife before you land.

add another dais back in C-2. You can use the Fairy Point here, as you may need
a Healing Fairy here. A Weapon Fairy will only help you get zapped, so you
should leave until she disappears. If you get an Item Fairy, you should warp
back to the Surface to break point and grind for coins. At any rate, get back
up to C-5 and take the elevator platform up to C-4.

Temple of Moonlight C-4
Enemies: 2x Yowie
Landmarks: Four Hands

Scan the point where the four hands in the background converge to unlock
another dais in C-2. Head to the elevator platform on the left and throw a
Shuriken at the face on the top. This will shatter the faces and open the
ceiling above, creating an elevator platform that connects the top and bottom
halves of the Temple of Moonlight. No need to go up there yet, go back across
the platforms and right to D-4. Drop down from there to D-5.

Treasure: Serpent Staff

Get to the top right platform in this room as fast as you can. After a short
delay, Anubis will appear. Quickly send a Rolling Shuriken his way and he will
blink blue, indication that you cannot damage him. Warp back to the Temple of
the Sun. Drop down two rooms and enter Mulbruk's Chamber. Keep entering and
talking to her until she gives you the Book of the Dead item. This will enable
you to hurt Anubis; it also makes you immune from the Anubians' life draining
beam (but not Anubis's). Before heading back to fight Anubis, heal up at the
Surface. You should have a decent amount of money saved up by now. Buy the
Pistol at Surface Shop #2 while you're there. Return to confront Anubis.

The first thing you want to do here is kill the Anubian and make your way to
the bottom right of the room. This will force Anubis to do a back flip towards
you; run under him and jump up to the top-left platform near the center of the
room. Anubis will probably send his life-draining cloud toward you; lure the
cloud toward you, then jump down and rush toward Anubis, who will not move
while the cloud is active. Jump and strike Anubis in the head with the Axe a
couple times, then retreat before the cloud reaches you. Once the cloud
dissipates, stand on the top-left platform again until Anubis sends another
cloud at you, and repeat the process. If you stay on the ground-level too long,
Anubis will charge at you. It takes 10 hits from the Axe to kill Anubis,
unlocking the chest containing the Serpent Staff.

you flooded the Temple of the Sun). Open it and claim the Glove, which enables
to push blocks faster. Take the elevator into D-5 up into D-4 and jump across
to break the Birth Seal on the left. This creates a shop which does not sell
anything useful, unless you were able to get a Key Fairy from the fairy point
in D-5.

Now it's time to enter the Inferno Cavern. Warp to the Temple of the Sun and
head to Temple of the Sun A-2 (where you fought Buer). This time, enter the

it gets close enough. Also, rocks will shoot out of the lava pits. Beware. The
Sacred Orb in this room is fake; if you attempt to take it, the platform will

shooting fire at you. Once they are both angered, the Shell Horn will sound and
you can claim the Map. You can climb into the Twin Labyrinths from here and
access one of its Grail Tablets, but there isn't much else to do other than
wander aimlessly and be killed by trap walls and sub-bosses. Go back down to

®:Inferno Cavern C-4
Enemies: 2x Killer Rock
Landmarks: BLOCK PUZZLE
Treasure: Flare Gun sub-weapon

Get the Killer Rocks to blow themselves up. If you don't have the Glove yet,
this block puzzle will take a lot longer. If you mess up the block puzzle, just
leave the room and come back to reset it.

-Push the block on the upper left to the left until it falls off the platform
it is on.
-Get to the block closer to the center of the room and push it left until it
falls; hop down and push it left onto the plate. This will spawn another block
at the top of the room.
-Push the block on the left to the right so that it falls off the platform it
is on to land atop the block you just pushed onto the plate.
-Push the newly-spawned block in the upper left towards the left so that it
falls, then push it all the way to the left onto that plate. This will spawn a
block on the right side of the room.
-Push the new block all the way to the plate on the bottom left of the room,
spawning a new block at the top right.
-There are now two blocks next to each other on a top platform. Push the one on
the left to the left off the top platform, then to the right off the next
platform, then to the left off the next platform, then to the right onto the
plate on the low-center platform.
-Push the other block on the top platform to the left onto the plate there.
-There is one last block on the right now. Push it left until it falls, then
right until it falls again, then right onto the bottom-right plate.

This reveals the Flare Gun. Grab it and return right to D-4. This time take the
bottom right exit to E-4.

Treasure: Additional Text Memory Software (bunplus.exe)

The wall directly left of the ladder can be destroyed to reveal the bunplus.exe
software. The safest way to do it is to climb the ladder and face left to
attack the wall. If you are hit while on the ladder, you will fall straight
down instead of being knocked into the lava (he wrote, seconds before being
knocked into the lava). Once you get the software, climb up into F-4.

®:Inferno Cavern F-4
Enemies: 2x Flame Rat
Landmarks: Inferno Cavern GRAIL POINT

Climb up and read the Grail Tablet. Save if necessary. you can go to the
Surface and heal then warp back here if need be. When you're ready, jump back
down into F-5. When jumping down, make sure to angle left or right so you do
not land in the lava. Head left from F-5 to G-5.

®:Inferno Cavern G-5
Treasure: Ice Cape

There is a dais on a platform that is slightly in lava here. Jump in, place the
weight and jump back out as fast as you can. This spawns a block at the top
left platform. Push it to the right off the edge, then to the right again onto
the plate to unlock the chest. Claim the Ice Cape, which reduces the damage you
take from lava. No more panicked screaming when you fall into lava.

Warp back to the Surface to heal, then return to Inferno Cavern D-2 (the room
where a laser barrier was blocking a tablet). It may be easier to enter from
the Temple of the Sun.

Here is where you need the Grapple Claw. The idea is to grapple onto a wall,
then kick off to the other side to avoid the flame jets. If you get hit, you
will fall down to D-4, forcing you to climb back up to try again. If this is
your first time, it will probably take several tries. The farther down you get,
the faster the flame jets are. If you time it right, you can jump down the
right side into D-3 without having to grapple so that you only have to grapple
your way past the last two jets. If successful, you will arrive at the alcove
on the left side of D-3. If the alcove is there, it's because you didn't break
the Birth Seal. Head left from the alcove into C-3.

®:Inferno Cavern C-3
Enemies: 3x Skulleton
Landmarks: Hidden NPC Chamber
Pots: ??? (bottom) 10 coins (top)

The blocks here are not part of any block puzzle; they're just in your way. You
can push them around as necessary. If you push one into an enemy they will die
instantly. One of the blocks has an NPC chamber hidden behind it. Head left
into B-3.

®:Inferno Cavern B-3
Sub-Boss: Pazuzu
Pots: ???

I hate Pazuzu. He is annoying. He makes rocks fall from the ceiling, then picks
them up and throws them at you. You can dodge them, but it can be tough. Also,
direct contact with Pazuzu hurts a lot. There are three common ways to fight
Pazuzu. One is to use the Axe. There are times you can strike his head when he
is on the left side of the screen or collecting a rock; this requires you to be
in a precise position and hit the attack button at the precise time, and
includes the risk of collision damage. You can try this, but it's hard.

The second strategy is to buy a bunch of Shuriken and throw them at him from a
distance. It can be effective, but it takes a lot of Shuriken.

My preferred strategy is to use the Pistol. Ammunition is very expensive, but
it is worth it in this case. There aren't many sub-bosses that are as annoying
as Pazuzu. The last thing you want to do here is die or have to teleport out
and re-do the shaft of flame jets. Four shots to the head with the Pistol will
do him in; aim carefully, though. Once Pazuzu is dead, the path left to A-3
will open up.

®:Inferno Cavern A-3
Enemies: 2x Killer Rock, 1x Flame Rat
Treasure: Chain Whip

You may want to backtrack and save before attempting this. Get rid of the
enemies first. When you place a weight on either dais here, the column to next
to that dais will rise up toward the ceiling. You must ride that column to the
top and jump off onto the platform at the top of the room before it crushes you
into the ceiling. Placing a weight on the dais on the top platform will open
the sacred box to reveal the Chain Whip. Carefully jump down to grab it. The
Chain Whip is twice as powerful as your first whip and replaces it in the
weapon list, but still less powerful than the Axe.

Note that this puzzle will not reset if you leave the room. If you fall after
reaching the top, you cannot get the Chain Whip. If you fail to get on the
column as it rises, you cannot get the Chain Whip. You will have to reload your
save or wait until much later in the game to reset the puzzle.

Now that you the Ice Cape, you can get another hidden coin chest. Return to
Inferno Cavern F-2. Allow the platform on the left to break and drop you into
the lava. There is a portion of the left wall that you can break with weapons,
allowing you to swim into E-2 and open a new coin chest there.

Warp back to the Surface to heal up if you need it. Now we are ready to face
Bahamut. Warp to the Spring in the Sky and make your way towards his Ankh room
(C-2). When you get to D-5, try to spawn a Weapon Fairy; you can cheat the
fairy spawning system by exiting and re-entering the room if you spawn an
unwanted fairy.

When you reach C-2, jump onto the boat and use the Ankh. Equip the Axe and
Flare Gun; if you have a Weapon Fairy, her flares will help here.

************************
* Guardian #4: Bahamut *
************************

Bahamut has three attacks:
-He will jump into the air next to you and fire water breath across the room.
-He will breach the water and try to land on you.
-He will pop his head out from a distance and shoot fireballs along the surface
of the water toward you.

Your best time to strike is when he is charging his water breath attack. Stay
in the center of the room as best you can; when his waves send your boat into
the air, hit him in the head with the axe, then dodge the water breath by
standing right under his mouth. If you're too close when the wave pushes you
up, you'll task collision damage (24 points). You can also use flares from
here, but I recommend saving them (you'll need them).

When Bahamut jumps out of the water towards you, dodge. You can use flares
here, too (that's why I recommend the Weapon Fairy). The Axe is too slow to hit
him without getting hit yourself, but you can score hits with the Whip here if
you switch fast enough.

When Bahamut does his fireball attack, you cannot hurt him. Just try to avoid
the fireballs as best you can, because they do 24 damage with each hit. The
Feather helps.

With enough skill and a little luck, you should be able to take Bahamut down.
If you get frustrated, you can put him off until later, after you've explored
the Chamber of Extinction and Graveyard of the Giants.

Axe or Chain Whip. A few good hits will destroy the wall, revealing the chest
containing a Sacred Orb. There is a way to get this before fighting Bahamut,
but it's much harder and generally not necessary. Striking the bottom part of
the wall to the right will reveal a horde of bats. Don't reveal a horde of
bats. Head left to Surface K-3

move to the right edge. Jump straight up, then angle to the right around the
platform and back left to land where the tent is. Enter the tent to receive the
Mekuri Master software. You could have gotten this earlier (technically you can
get it as soon as you have the Hermes Boots), but it's only worth it if you're
really having a hard time with Bahamut and have its matching software.

Warp back to Surface G-4, head to left to G-3 and the PC Shop. Buy the new
Mobile Super X2 Laptop for 250 coins. If the Mobile Super X2 is not there, then
you have not defeated all of the first four Guardians. I also recommend going
to the shop in Temple of the Sun E-5 (where you got the Heatproof Case) to buy
some extra ammo for the Flare Gun. You might need it where we're going next.

Go back to Temple of the Sun G-4 and take the lower gate into the Chamber of
Extinction. "but it's dark," you say. Yes it's dark, but now that you have the
Flare Gun, you can light it and take a look around at this hellhole.

Sub-Boss: Centimani
Enemies( (after defeating sub-boss): 2x Naga, 1x Skulleton
Treasure: Chakram sub-weapon

Centimani will appear as soon as you reach the bottom of the ladder. It will
move towards you, dealing collison damage. You should be able to just overpower
it with the Axe or Knife. It does 20 damage each time it hits you but you
should be able to kill it while only being hit about five times. If you have
over 100 health, you will live. Once it is dead, claim the Chakram. Wait for
the lights to go out and re-light the lantern in the upper left area of the
room. Head to the bottom right exit into D-4

Landmarks: Mural Depicting the Power of Words

®:Chamber of Extinction E-4
Enemies: 3x Naga, 2x Hedge, 1x Mandrake
Landmarks: Best Coin-Grinding location in the game

This is the best coin-grinding spot in the game. The bricks in the upper-right
respawn when you leave and return to this room, making them a great source to
load up when you have an Item Fairy with you. They contain 10 coins each now,
even without an Item Fairy. Re-light the lamp here once it goes dark, and take
the lower-right path to F-4.

You'll be back for the treasure later. For now, climb down the ladder. to F-5.

Read the Grail Tablet here and save. Head right into G-5.

®:Chamber of Extinction G-5
Enemies: 3x Naga

Continue right to H-5.

®:Chamber of Extinction H-5
Enemies: 2x Naga, Blob
Enter/Exit: Shrine of the Mother

You can't do anything in the Shrine of the Mother yet. Jump into the pool of
water here. You may have to re-light the lantern soon. Blocks on the right and
left side of the pool's surface are breakable; the right side yields 10 coins;
the left side is the path to unlocking the treasure chest in F-4.

Break the left wall of the pool and jump onto the alcove created. JUMP to the
left to fall down a bit and land in G-5 (if you fall straight down, you will
have to start over). From where you are in G-5, move to the left a bit, then
jump up and left. Jump to the left from here and continue left; you will fall
down a bit. Walk to the left, dropping down until you cannot go any further
left. Double-jump straight up then angle to the left to get back up high. You
need to continue left, but there are two drops here which will force you to
start over. Use Rolling Shurikens to find where they are, then jump over them
to the left to reach F-5.

Drop down to the left and walk to where the one-way door is. Before passing
through it, jump up to break the Birth Seal (this opens the chest in F-4). You
can walk back to the Grail Tablet or warp there now. Re-light the lantern above
the Grail Point and catch the elevator platform up to F-4. Jump over to the
chest to grab the Life Seal. From F-4, exit left to E-4. Head left through E-4
and take the left exit (not the bottom-left exit down the ladder) into D-4. Go
left through here to C-4. Jump left and climb the ladder to C-3.

Make your way to the top of D-3 and double-jump over the spikes and land on the
floor switch at the top-right of of the room. Head over to the top-left part of
the room where the now-unlocked chest is to grab the Sacred Orb.

If you go back to H-5 and head right, you will reach I-5.

®:Chamber of Extinction I-5
Enemies: 3x Naga, Blob
Landmarks: Fairy Point

There is a fairy point here. Some of the blocks on the bottom of the room are
breakable and give coins. The ladder in this room connects to E-3 for some
reason.

You're done here for now. Warp back to the Surface grail point. On your way to
the Feather earlier, you may have noticed a Life Seal in Surface D-3. Now is a
good time to break that seal, revealing a coin chest containing 80 coins. Heal
up, save and stock up on weights. Time to take on the Graveyard.

========================================================
Part XI: Ice Is Slippery. It Can't Be Helped [GRV01]
========================================================

Start by warping to the Grail Point in the Gate of Guidance D-2. One screen to
the right in E-2 is the treasure chest that has taunted you since the beginning
of the game. Now we can open it. Break the Life Seal in this room and the
ceiling above will slowly pull up. Use the Flare Gun to light the three lamps
revealed. Lighting the lamps unlocks the chest containing the Crucifix. With
the Crucifix the Soul enemies can no longer harm you; they will explode when
the get close to you.

Make sure you have at least 360 coins and go to the Fairy Point in Spring in
the Sky D-5. What you need to do now is activate the Fairy Point and determine
what kind of fairy it is. We want a Key Fairy (four stars spinning in a
counter-clockwise square). If the star pattern is anything else, jump back to
C-5 before the animation completes, then return to D-5 and try again. Once you
get the Key Fairy. Ride the elevator up to D-4 and jump off onto the platform
to the left. The Key Fairy will fly over to the shop and cause an explosion.
Once this happens, jump back over to the shop and enter it; its wares have
changed. Buy the Guild (guild.exe) and Rose & Camellia (randc.exe) software.
Running randc.exe and mekuri.exe at the same time will increase the damage
dealt by your Axe and Knife. That will be a big help right now.

Warp to the Mausoleum of the Giants E-3. Go one screen left to D-3 and a door
will reveal itself on the left side of the room. It appears once you obtain the
Bronze Mirror and defeat Sakit, so you could have gone much earlier. Enter the
door to access the Graveyard of the Giants C-3.

DO NOT place a weight on the dais up top. If you do, the path to the Grail
Point will be permanently blocked off and you will be unable to complete the
game. Jump over the ice block to the right and walk past the dais on the
bottom. Jump through a false wall on the right to drop down to C-2 and then
walk right into D-2. Place a weight here to remove the wall and gain access to
the Grail. Read it and save, then warp back to the Mausoleum of the Giants and
re-enter the Graveyard through the backside door.

(If you are playing the PC version, the secret passage to the Grail Point is
beneath the dais, accessed via the right ladder from C-2.)

When you get back to C-1, you can now safely place a weight on the top dais
(FIRST MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT YOU HAVE READ THE GRAIL TABLET. NOT JUST
SAVED, BUT READ IT USING THE HAND SCANNER). Once you place the weight, the
block will drop down so you can walk across the top. Get to the upper right and
destroy the wall to reveal a coin chest with 25 coins in it. Take the lower
left exit from here into B-1.

Be careful with the Di Jiang; they are slow and have no real attacks, but they

bump into on the slippery ice.

Jumping into the Hot Spring right away will reduce your life. You need to knock
the ice platform right above it down with a weapon to cool it off. Then it
becomes a healing Hot Spring; you can heal up here now. Take the ladder in the
upper left corner up to A-1.

chunk holding the ice block up top in place. Once it drops down, push the block
here to the left onto the plate. This will create a ladder to a new area but it
seems sealed off for now... weird. Warp back to the Mausoleum of the Giants and
re-enter the Graveyard of the Giants. Head right into D-3 and jump down. You
will fall through D-4 and land in D-5.

it in the eye until the eye is destroyed. Take the upper left ladder to D-5,
then exit left to C-5.

®:Graveyard of the Giants C-5

left; then push the block above it down to the left as well. Get up to the top
of the room and push the block there down to the right. Follow it down, then
push it to the left so that it disrupts the energy barrier. Place a weight on
the dais and take the top-right path to D-5.

Climb up the ladder here to D-4.

®:Graveyard of the Giants D-4

Treasure: Gauntlet

You will not be able to access the chest if you have not solved the block
puzzle in C-5. Double jump as high up the left wall as you can, then grapple to
it and kick off to the break the Life Seal, unlocking the chest. Double-jump
and grapple again to get to the chest containing the Gauntlet. The Gauntlet
makes you main weapon attacks faster. Place a weight on the dais at the bottom
and head back down to D-5, then go two screens left to B-5.

be hit with lightning. Double-jump from the giant's knee to reach the dais
inside the center ice block. Place a weight here to open the chest, and pick up
mirai.exe; running mirai.exe on your MSX2 allows you to warp to the grail
tablets you've read in backside fields (Temple of Moonlight, Graveyard of
Giants for now). Head through the gate to the left to enter a new area.

hits to kill him. Once he dies, the path to C-4 opens up.

place a weight. Go back to C-3 and the ceiling will lift up, revealing the
hidden shop. You don't NEED to buy anything here now, just remember that it's

Treasure: Ankh Jewel

The clue to solving this was in the Graveyard of the Giants. Break the middle
block on the left and the top block on the right to unlock the chest containing
the Ankh Jewel. If you break the wrong block, the floors will open up,
potentially dropping you down to F-5. You will have to leave the Tower of Ruin
to reset the puzzle. Once you have the Ankh Jewel, go left back to E-4.

Jump down the shaft, angling to the left and you will pass through the hidden
wall into wear that Skulleton is. Stand on top of the crusher here to place a
weight on the dais. Then drop down, walk past the bottom crusher and drop down
to E-5.

®:Tower of Ruin E-5

Treasure: Earth Spear subweapon

You swam through here earlier. Placing the weight on the dais in E-4 unlocked
the sacred box, allowing you to grab the Earth Spears. Earth Spears are thrown
directly below you. Once you have them, take the ladder down and go back left
to D-5.

Stand above the gargoyle statue in D-5, throw Earth Spears at it to make it
lower. Now you can push the column in the center of the room out of the way and
climb down to E-6.

®:Inferno Cavern D-5
Enemies: 2x Slime
Enter/Exit: Tower of Ruin

You'll see a dais being lifted up in the background. Jump down and place a
weight on the dais in the lava to the right; this will open a path to E-5.
Start heading up towards D-2; in D-4 you will see that there is now a dais in
the lava pit to the right. The only way to reach it is to drop down the lava in
D-2 through D-3 to D-4. Do that and place the weight; this enables you to go
fight Viy, the Guardian of the Inferno Cavern. Before doing this, absolutely go
to the Surface and recover at the Hot Springs.

Before fighting Viy, you may want to buy more Caltrops if you have the money to
do so. The best place to buy them is in the Endless Corridor Shop, which is
found by breaking the Origin Seal in C-1 (two screens to the right of the Grail
Point.

After healing up, warp back to Inferno Cavern F-4. Drop down a room then go
left two screens to return to D-5. Now climb down the ladder D-6.

®:Inferno Cavern D-6 - GUARDIAN ROOM
Enter: Chamber of Extinction (after Viy is defeated)

Use the Ankh Jewel on the Ankh and Viy will appear.

********************
* Guardian #5: Viy *
********************

Viy won't do anything yet, though. I recommend equipping the Axe, Caltrops, and
the randc/mekuri software combo. When you are ready, whack the tentacles
(actually his eyelashes) with the Axe and the fight will begin in earnest.

Pink demons will fly in from the corner to pry open Viy's eye. Once Viy's eye
is open, he will either extend his eyestalk into the center of the room or fire
his laser. While Viy's eye is open, the room will begin scrolling, so you will
have to jump between platforms to keep up.

If he extends his eyestalk, some fireballs will fountain out as well. You can
destroy these with your weapon. After extending his eyestalk, Viy will fire a
small laser at you; this does 24 damage.

Touching Viy's skin will drain your health rapidly. There is no mercy
invincibility or any way to counteract this. Try to not land on Viy's skin, and
if you do, jump away as fast as you can.

If his eye is extended and the center platforms are intact, You can hit him
with the Axe. Viy's first attack is always and eyestalk extension. If you can
get in 4 or 5 hits with the Axe now, you will be very close to killing him.

If the platforms are destroyed when Viy's eyestalk extends, you can use
Shurikens, Pistol or Chakram at it, or double-jump over it and throw an Earth
Spear down into his eye.

Being hit by Viy's eye laser will do 90 damage. It also destroys the pink
demons, his eyelashes, your subweapons and part of the platforms in the center
of the room. Do not get hit by Viy's eye laser. If the center platforms are
intact, you can toss some Caltrops into Viy's eye then run away before the
laser fires.

Viy's tentacles will re-spawn after a while. You should retract them with the
Axe as soon as possible. Even though the tentacles only do 1 damage, they can
knock you into Viy's body, which is bad news.

Another strategy involves jumping across the room once Viy's eye opens, before
he fires his laser or extends his eyestalk, and throwing an Earth Spear into
the eye. This is risky, as the pink demons can hit you and knock you into Viy's
body.

When Viy's health gets low, he will start angling his laser towards you
diagonally. This can actually help you, as the platforms on the opposite side
of the room will be more intact, making it easier to use Caltrops or the Axe.

Viy will also chain his attacks when his health is low. He can fire up to three
lasers in a row, or extend his eyestalk after the laser. He will also fire two
small lasers when he extends his eyestalk instead of one.

Eventually, you will win this battle. You might finish it quickly on your first
try; or after two hours of constantly dying (like my first time through the
game). Once Viy is vanquished, the only way out is down. This drops you into a
new area of the Chamber of Extinction. You can't do anything here yet; warp out
and save somewhere.

Warp to the Spring in the Sky and return to the Fairy Point in D-5. Spawn a Key
Fairy using the technique described in Part XI. Once you have the Key Fairy,
warp to the Chamber of Extinction. Light the lantern among the Grail Tablet and
go to the right into G-5. The Fairy will hover near the lantern here and soon
reveal a path into a new area. Head on in!

Enemies: 2x MSX Tog Head

This is the Gate of Time, a bonus area that reflects the appearance of the
original La-Mulana, released in 2005. The graphics are intended to emulate
those of the MSX computer gaming system which was more popular in Japan than it
was in the United States. The tablets here are quite colorful. You can read
them as you progress through here, for fun!

You could have unlocked this area at any time once you gained access to the
Chamber of Extinction and Fairy Points, but the benefits are scarce. None of
the pots here drop treasure, there is no map or usable grail point. Also, you
cannot walk through spikes here; approaching spikes from the side hurts you.

done, warp back to the Surface to heal.

Warp to the Spring in the Sky and return to the Fairy Point there. This time we
want to spawn an Item Fairy; the Item Fairy animation is four stars: two of
them in a counter-clockwise square, two in a clockwise circle. Soon as the
fairy spawns, warp to the Chamber of Extinction. Climb up the ladder to the
right of the Grail point. This will put you in E-4. Make your way to the top
right of the room where the destructible blocks are.

Destroy the blocks and collect the coins they yield; then go right into the top
left corner of F-4; immediately turn back round into E-4. The blocks will have
respawned; destroy them and collect the treasure again. The best weapon for
this is the Axe. Repeat this until the fairy disappears. On this attempt, I
started the process with 240 coins and had 623 when the fairy disappeared. Not
bad, eh? It gets better later!

First, make sure you have a lot of weights. 30 is good; 40 is better. Make sure
you have at least one Shuriken.

Warp to the Temple if Moonlight; go right from the Grail Room to C-2. There
should be four daises in the main part of the room now. If there are not, it's
because you failed to scan one of the four landmarks involved in the Eden
puzzle. They are the Face in A-1, the Michael Jackson mural in E-4, the place
where the Four Hands meet in C-4 and the dais that triggers the Phenomenal Trap
in C-6.

If all four daises are there, place weights on them in this order: Top Left,
Top Right, Bottom Right, Middle Right. If you do it in the wrong order, you
will have to leave and return; if one of those damn bats knocks you down to
C-3, you'll have to start over. Once all four weights are placed, the treasure
chest will unlock. It contains the Fruit of Eden. Head to A-1.

Kill all the bats in A-1. From the center bottom of the room, double-jump and
cling to the wall on the right, across from the oddly-colored spikes. Quickly
release the wall by turning left, and fire a shuriken into the spikes, landing
on the platform below without falling into A-2. This reveals a coin chest
containing 100 COINS. If you fall or get knocked into A-2, you'll have to work
your way back here (wasting two weights in the process). Once this is done,
climb the ladder out of this room and into Eden.

Landmarks: Tree of Eden

With the Fruit of Eden, a dais appears here that did not exist before. Turn
your volume way up, then place a weight on the dais.
