NEKKETSU STREET BASKET - EQUIPMENTS & PASS CODE GUIDE

by hmsong
===============================================================================
===============================================================================

Do you remember River City Ransom?  You know, that really awesome beat'em up
game for the NES?  Well, it had many spin-off games in Japan (beat'em ups,
soccer, ice hockey, arena fights, etc).  They were called the "Nekketsu" series
(translation: Hot-Blood).  Sadly, only few made to the West (River City Ransom,
Super Dodge Ball, Nintendo World Cup, and Crash n the Boys Street Challenge).
The Nekketsu series deserved WAY more love than they got.

This is one of the Nekketsu games that never made to the West.  And it's about
basketball.  However, unlike the real basketball games, there's really only one
rule -- score points by shooting the ball into the basket, and the team with
the most points by the end wins.  That's it.  Everything else is free-for-all.
As in, you can beat up the other guys, throw weapons at each other, goal tend,
keep shooting after scoring, etc.  It's awesome.

1. Basics About My Guide ...................................... <BAS>
===============================================================================

First of all, I based my guide using the English patched game by Farid.  If you
don't have that, then get it.  It's a complete English patch.  It makes
everything so much less frustrating when the game is in English.

Second, read dammit9x's guide (posted on GameFAQs.com).  It has all the details
about the mechanics of the game, and you need to know those to play the game
well.  There's no tutorials in this game, so you'll probably lose often if you
try to "figure things out by playing".  Having said that, there are few errors
and missing contents in that guide, which is what motivated me to write this
guide.

My guide's focus will be on the equipments and the pass codes.  I will assume
you know most of the mechanics of the game.

2. Equipment Description ...................................... <EQU>
===============================================================================

Everytime you win a game, you will be rewarded with an equipment.  There are
three types of equipments: Shirt, Pants, and Shoes.  Each team members can
equip up to one of each types.  I would like to thank dammit9x for the info
his guide provided.  Some of the info were wrong or missing, so I fixed those.

 Shirts        | Effect
 --------------+---------------
 Armored Shirt | Stamina +1, Speed -1.
 Blues Shirt   | Aims for the top basket with the normal shots.
 Dunker Shirt  | Sometimes, ground/air super shot becomes a random super shot.
 Feather Shirt | Jump +3.
 Level-2 Shirt | Aims for the middle basket with the normal shots.
 Phantom Shirt | Max all stats.
 Rocket Shirt  | Ground super shot becomes Rocket shot.
 Slimy Shirt   | Ground super shot becomes Slime shot.
 Sparkly Shirt | Shoot +3.
 Sunny Shirt   | Ground super shot becomes Giant shot.

 Pants         | Effect
 --------------+---------------
 Blues Pants   | Shoot +2.
 Dyed Pants    | Speed +1.
 Feather Pants | Jump +3.
 Mach Pants    | Replaces standing Punch/Kick with Mach Punch and Mach Kick.
 Ogre Pants    | Max Power.
 Phantom Pants | Max Speed.
 Rocket Pants  | ???
 Sparkly Pants | Shoot +2.
 T-Back Pants  | Aims for the middle basket with the dunks.
 Utility Pants | Shoot +1.
 Wrinkly Pants | Max Stamina, Power -2.

 Shoes         | Effect
 --------------+---------------
 Air Shoes     | Gives low-gravity jumps (high and slow).
 Dancing Shoes | Enables dunk from anywhere on the court.
 Feather Shoes | Max Jump.
 Jackpot Shoes | All baskets give additional 2 points.
 Phantom Shoes | Max all stats.
 Rocket Shoes  | Max Speed.
 Speedy Shoes  | Max Speed.
 Spring Shoes  | Enables 5 more air jumps (total of 6 air jumps).
 Techno Shoes  | Max Stamina, all other stats -1.

I still don't know what Rocket Pants does.  If anyone can figure this out, then
please email me, and I'll update the guide and give you the due credit.

According to dammit9x, there's also Blues Shoes and Sparkly Shoes, but you
can't get those equipments normally.  It's not really important, since they
don't seem to do anything, according to dammit9x.

3. Rewards .................................................... <REW>
===============================================================================

When you begin a new game, it randomly decides one of the 4 reward sets you can
win from the enemy teams.  You can know which set you got by looking at the
code as soon as you begin the game.  Of course, you can manually choose the set
by inputting the code.  The following are the possible sets:

Top items are the ones you win from the away games. (1/3/5th... games)
Bottom items are the ones you win from the home games. (2/4/6th... games)

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
 ID Code       | 000000        | 000011        | 000022        | 000033
 --------------+---------------+---------------+---------------+--------------
 New York      | Rocket Shirt  | Dancing Shoes | Feather Shoes | Dancing Shoes
               | Sparkly Shirt | Speedy Shoes  | Dunker Shirt  | Sparkly Pants
 --------------+---------------+---------------+---------------+--------------
 US Navy       | Air Shoes     | Level-2 Shirt | T-Back Pants  | Ogre Pants
               | Blues Pants   | Wrinkly Pants | Armored Shirt | Feather Shirt
 --------------+---------------+---------------+---------------+--------------
 Florida       | Feather Shirt | Feather Shirt | Mach Pants    | Phantom Shirt
               | Feather Pants | Sunny Shirt   | Dancing Shoes | Feather Pants
 --------------+---------------+---------------+---------------+--------------
 Texas         | Ogre Pants    | Rocket Shoes  | Slimy Shirt   | T-Back Pants
               | Ogre Pants    | Dyed Pants    | Sparkly Shirt | Dunker Shirt
 --------------+---------------+---------------+---------------+--------------
 Hawaii        | Level-2 Shirt | Dyed Pants    | Phantom Shoes | Techno Shoes
               | Mach Pants    | Rocket Pants  | Sunny Shirt   | Dancing Shoes
 --------------+---------------+---------------+---------------+--------------
 San Fran      | Rocket Pants  | Air Shoes     | Phantom Shoes | Spring Shoes
               | Blues Shirt   | Dunker Shirt  | Rocket Pants  | Blues Pants
 --------------+---------------+---------------+---------------+--------------
 Las Vegas     | Armored Shirt | Armored Shirt | Spring Shoes  | Phantom Pants
               | Jackpot Shoes | Utility Pants | Jackpot Shoes | Jackpot Shoes
 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am aware that ID codes 000044, 000055,... 0000FF exist, but they mostly give
useless glitched equipments or Sparkly Shirts.  Obviously, there's no point in
using those ID codes.

===============================================================================
4. Pass Codes ................................................. <COD>
===============================================================================

The pass code is in HEX form (0~F).  In order to get the code, you need to add
up all the codes of the defeated teams, then add in the ID code but...

1. The amount of the top code (away game) and the bottom code (home game) has
   to be equal, or the amount of the top code has to be 1 greater then the
   amount of the bottom code.
2. If the added digit is greater than F, then it resets to 0 and gets added
   again (ex: 8+8+1+1 = 2).  The bigger hex digit does not get added
   (08 + 08 = 00, not 10).

               | 000000
 --------------+---------
 New York      | 020010
               | 000110
 --------------+---------
 US Navy       | 100080
               | 000880
 --------------+---------
 Florida       | 800000
               | 004000
 --------------+---------
 Texas         | 080040
               | 000440
 --------------+---------
 Hawai         | 200000
               | 001000
 --------------+---------
 San Fran      | 040020
               | 000220
 --------------+---------
 Las Vegas     | 400000
               | 002000
 ------------------------

If you add all of them, the final code is:
 FE7FE0 (no, you cannot use this code to skip to the ending)

Examples of Final Opponent Code (All equipments, except one)
 000000:  FE7BA0 (Final opponent: Texas)
 000011:  FE7BB1 (Final opponent: Texas)
 000022:  FE7EF2 (Final opponent: New York)
 000033:  FE6F13 (Final opponent: Hawaii)
