01.) INTRODUCTION G0100
===============================================================================
Welcome to 'King's Quest: Quest for the Crown' for the PC, the first in all
series of quest adventure games by Sierra released in 1983. The game was later
re-released in 1990 with slightly updated graphics (not to be confused with the
unofficial VGA remake). The games are almost identical.
The walkthrough for this game is complete and includes a point list. By
following the walkthrough you will also get all points in the game. If you spot
any errors or have suggestions please feel free to e-mail me about it. Enjoy!

You should play the game on Normal speed, Slow is unnecessary and Fast is
impossible to control on a modern computer. If you play the game in DosBox you
may have a different experience.
The game does not care much for grammar and instead of "Look at the log" you
can simply type "look log". This guide uses working inputs but you can replace
them with different words the game understands (e.g. 'get' instead of 'take').
Please note that this is a very basic code and in some cases you don't get
points for using a different noun. E.g. "Look Bowl" gives you the same message
as "Read Bowl" but only read gives you 1 point. If the game doesn't understand
something it will tell you. All commands in the guide are in CAPS. You might
notice sometimes the guide also lacks grammar at times, this is intentional
because the commands are also lacking them and it is easier to come across if
ignored.
The number in the ()s is the amount of points you get for a specific action.
As this game is very non-linear there is no (,) total shown like in some other
guides. If you follow the guide step-by-step and want to know if your score is
the same, look at the point list for a quick overview.
If you get lost, try the excellent map at this site to find your way around

03.) WALKTHROUGH G0300
===============================================================================
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Mirror
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the introduction, cross the bridge and walk left. OPEN DOOR (1) to the
castle and walk through to the throne room. Stand in front of the king and on
the first few steps to BOW TO KING (3). TALK TO KING for your mission and exit
the castle. Go left and PUSH ROCK (2). TAKE DAGGER (5) from the hole and go
north. CLIMB TREE (2) and carefully walk along the branch to the nest. TAKE EGG
(6) and go back down the branch. Go left twice and CUT ROPE (2) to get the
bucket. At the right side LOWER ROPE with the handle and CLIMB ROPE down the
well (1). After you fall, FILL BUCKET (4) and DIVE (4). Swim through the hole
in the wall to get to a cave (1). Get close to the dragon and THROW WATER at it
(5). Then TAKE MIRROW (8) and leave the cave by going west twice.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Chest
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Go down twice as well and LOOK IN STUMP (1). TAKE POUCH (3) from the stump and
OPEN POUCH (3) to see what's inside. Go left, up (don't fall in the lake), up
and left again. TAKE CLOVER (2) and go south to get protection from the fairy
godmother. Go left and TAKE CARROT (2) from the field. Go up twice and left to
TAKE BOWL (3) which you should READ BOWL (1). Walk further left and TAKE WALNUT
(3). OPEN NUT (3). Go up and right one screen, TAKE PEBBLES at the beach and
follow up, left three times and enter the woodcutter's hut. On the way you
might meet an ogre but you should still be protected from the fairy godmother.
GIVE BOWL (3) and FILL it. They'll allow you to TAKE FIDDLE (3) in the corner.
Leave the house and go south twice. EAT HOUSE (2) and OPEN DOOR. If the witch
is here, quickly leave and re-enter. When she's not here, go inside and OPEN
CUPBOARD (2) and TAKE CHEESE (2). TAKE NOTE in the bedroom (2) and READ NOTE
(1). Wait in the bedroom until the witch comes back and approach her from the
back. PUSH WITCH (7) and leave. Go left and down twice. OPEN GATE and SHOW
CARROT (5) to the goat so it follows you. Go down three times and left once.
Cross the bridge and let the goat do it's business (4). Cross the bridge and
TALK GNOME and answer IFNKOVHGROGHPRM (5). TAKE BEANS (4) he drops and walk go
right past bridge. PLANT BEANS (2) in the middle of the flower bed. CLIMB STALK
and go the way up. Save frequently because the climbing is very unpredictable
and often you safely climb in the air and other times you fall even though you
were on the stalk. Go right twice, down and right twice more. TAKE SLING (2)
from the hole and go back left. In the screen above is a giant who will slowly
talk towards you. Your aim is to approach from the top left and always keep a
straight line between you, the tree and the giant. If done correctly. the giant
will always bump into the tree. After a while he'll fall asleep (7). If you
can't make it this way for some reason, use the sling on the giant but this
tactic does not yield as many points. TAKE CHEST (2) and go right into the
cave.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Shield
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Go all the way down the staircase and right one screen. Wait here for the elf
to appear and TALK ELF for a ring (3). Now go up, right twice, down and right
twice more. Walk around until the bird shows up. Go in front of the rock at the
right hand side and JUMP (or press 0) when the bird is just above you (3).
After you've been dropped, go left and TAKE MUSHROOM (1). Return to the
previous area and drop into the hole. Go south and west, get close to the rat
and GIVE CHEESE TO RAT (2) without getting bitten. OPEN DOOR and PLAY FIDDLE
(2) to get rid of the leprecons. Go down and the leprecon king will leave too.
TAKE SCEPTRE he leaves behind (6) and TAKE SHIELD (8). Go left and EAT MUSHROOM
(2) to fit through the hole. Back to the castle: East, North, North, East. OPEN
DOOR and go to the throne room. BOW where you bowed before (3) and watch the
final (strange) scenes. Enjoy!

05.) ITEMS G0500
===============================================================================
ITEM: DESCRIPTION:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BEANS If you guess the gnome's real name you will get these beans.
They can be planted to grow a beanstalk.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CARROT Grows outside in the castle gardens. Goats can be fooled
into following you if you place it in front of their mouth.
You can also eat this but you lose points.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CERAMIC BOWL A simply bowl just lying around, but it is actually filled
with magic. Give it to the couple in the house in exchange
for a fiddle.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CHEESE Inside a cupboard in the witch's hut. Rats and cheese go
well together, and there is one outside the leprechaun's
cave.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CHEST One of the three treasures you are on a quest for as per
King Edward. It can be found in the clouds guarded by a
giant.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DAGGER Somebody must have lost this dagger in a hole under a rock,
or stashed it there for future endeavors. It cuts the rope
at the well pretty...well.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FIDDLE Fill the ceramic bowl while it is on the woodcutter's table
and they will be so happy that they give you the fiddle in
exchange. Playing the fiddle in the leprechauns' cave will
result them in dancing and eventually leaving.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FOURLEAF CLOVER A clover brings luck. Find it near the goat pen and it will
protect you from the leprechauns.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GOLD EGG This egg is in a nest up on a large tree. There is not much
point in collecting this but for points and I guess to have
your own nice little treasure collection once you have
become king.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GOLD WALNUT Inside the walnut. There is not much point in collecting
this but for points and I guess to have your own nice little
treasure collection once you have become king.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KEY If you fail to guess the gnome's name you get this key. It
unlocks a door, naturally.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LEATHER SLINGSHOT Hidden inside a hole by some rascal for sure. By combining
it with pebbles you can flick them onto the giant to knock
him out.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAGIC RING The elf will give it to you, it can be used to hide from
the giant.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAGIC MIRROR Inside the dragon's cave at the bottom of the well. One of
the three treasures you are on a quest for as per King
Edward.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MUSHROOM The bird drops you off not far from this. You need to eat it
in order to pass through the leprechaun cave.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE On the table of the witch's hut. It merely gives away a hint
about the gnome's real name you will have to guess.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PEBBLES These can be found at the beach and combined with the
slingshot to fire against the giant to knock him out.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
POUCH Inside a tree stump. It contains a large collection of
diamonds.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
POUCH OF DIAMONDS Once you look inside the pouch you will find that it
contains diamonds. There is not much point in collecting
this but for points and I guess to have your own nice little
treasure collection once you have become king.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SCEPTRE Found inside the leprechaun cave, but can only be taken once
the inhabitants have danced to outside. There is not much
point in collecting this but for points and I guess to have
your own nice little treasure collection once you have
become king.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SHIELD Found inside the leprechaun cave, but can only be taken once
the inhabitants have danced to outside. One of the three
treasures you are on a quest for as per King Edward.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WALNUT Lying around on the grass in the countryside. It contains
the golden walnut.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WATER BUCKET The bucket hangs on the well and is attached to a rope. Once
you cut the rope off with the dagger you will retrieve the
bucket. You can fill this bucket with water from the well
and throw it at the dragon.
