Summary: In KQIII, Gwydion aka Alexander has turned Manannan the wizard
into a cat. Now, Manannan's brother wishes to undo this spell, but realizes
this can only be done by the original spell's caster, i.e. Alexander. So
this brother, Mordack, abducts the CASTLE Daventry and Graham's family, in
an attempt to blackmail Alexander. Which doesn't work since Alexander hasn't
a clue about magic so he can't undo the spell anyway. Graham travels around
a lot which has no relevance to the story but covers 90% of the game, until
he gets to Mordack's castle. Surprising Mordack in his sleep, he manages to
defeat him in a magical duel and all live happily ever after. Oh and there's
this princess Cassima who was abducted by Mordack who works in the kitchen,
and Alexander falls in love with her at first sight (which is at the end of
the game after you've rescued the lot).

Hints (you'll need these, and they aren't really spoilers)
* Roughly half of the solutions to problems are bleedingly obvious
(i.e. give the gold piece to the gypsy that asked for a gold piece).
Most of the others are totally nonsensical.
* Many problems will be 'solved' by a NPC that comes out to help you,
but will only do that when you've previously befriended said NPC; so
be sure to befriend a lot of people!
* There are many movie scenes that you can't click through in this game,
so the following hints will help in avoiding having to see them twice.
* In the initial part of the game, simply trade all your objects to
 people who need them.
* Sweet stuff is NOT to be eaten in this game
* There are four items of value in the desert, keep on searching
* The bluebird is not helpful (actually neither is Cedric)
* The way of killing the witch doesn't make sense; just try random things
(by which I mean, click every object in your inventory on her until she
 dies)
* There are three objects in the witch's house, and one in her other house
* Something that's completely nonsensical, is the fact that when you're
locked inside the cellar, the padlock is on the INside with you!
* You need six objects to cross the mountain; I'm not sure if you can
go back for them so save before entering the snake's path (actually
I am sure you can't go back for the last two)
* In the second (traveling) part of the game, there are several scenes
that look like a movie that kills you in the end. You can (and must)
do something as soon as possible even if it doesn't seem like you're
 in control of the game
* The way of killing the yeti doesn't make sense; just try random things
* Before returning to the Ice Queen's chamber, you must find an object
* You can and must act in the roc's nest (even if acting won't save you)
* There is one useful location out in the sea
* There are two objects (other than Cedric) on the harpies' island
* Before speaking to the deaf sailor, make sure you have the crowbar and
 the fishhook
* The guardian statue is another place to just try random things
* There is one creature guarding an object in the maze
* Maze directions are: SNNENE (creature) SWNNNWNNEWEWNWNE
* Search the pantry
* Use your entire inventory on the girl in the kitchen; note that she
mentions you being 'one of THEM' but there's no reference anywhere in the
game as to who 'THEM' might be
* In the next part of the castle, there are three creatures you can run into
at random: Mordack will simply kill you; the blue critter will throw you
in prison, and Manannan the cat can be ignored
(NOTE that in KQ3 I'm pretty sure the wizard's name was Manannan, but in
KQ5 it's spelled Mannanan for some reason)
* You must get thrown in prison once; you can get out and there's an object
there you need if you look really carefully
* After that you can remove both the cat and the weird critter from the
action, I'm not sure if this is necessary.
* In the library, save your game then go get a cup of tea or something. You
must wait for Mordack to fall asleep, but this can take five minutes or
so. No that doesn't make sense either. Oh and do read the book.
* Now you can go to the laboratory. You can't free your family yet, but you
can use the machine. You should be able to figure out what it does, just
remember that is's powered by rotten cheese. This is probably the most
ridiculous part of the script, powering a magic machine with old cheese.
* Finally you get to duel Mordack. Note that you will have full score upon
winning; there are no sidequests or better solutions.

Okay since I'm writing this anyway, here are the full spoilers:
In town, get fish from barrel and coin from floor (it's only there the
second time you enter). Trade coin for pie. Throw fish at bear, take honey
and stick from that room. Throw stick at dog. Search haystack with help of
the ants and get needle.
Now go into the desert. I forgot where the oasises lie but you need them to
cross. There's a shoe on a skeleton, which you need. In the bandits' lair,
grab the staff (and some water). Now go to the temple, open with staff, grab
gold coin and bottle and get out quickly.
Give gold coin to gypsy; wear amulet. Enter dark woods, give bottle to witch
(yes it's a weird solution). Search witch house for key, spinning wheel
and gem pouch Open her other house with key to get heart. In northwest part,
pour honey on ground then throw gems there until you catch an elf.
Give spinning wheel to gnome. In town, give needle to tailor, magic doll to
toymaker, shoes to shoemaker (the odd thing is that you're giving everybody
something they should have or be able to make!) In former gypsy camp, grab
tambourine. Give heart to tree. In front of bakery, throw old shoe at cat
(you only get ONE chance at this, if you miss it the rat will be dead).
Enter inn and get beaten up. Rat saves you. Open lock (that is on the
INSIDE) with hammer, take rope, grab ham, leave by west door.
Find snake and chase him off with tambourine (because it's POIsonous!)
Now go climb the mountain. Wear cloak. Be careful not to click wrong, the
pathfinding algorithm isn't too good. Eat meat. Use rope on rock to climb up,
then jump over small rocks to the right. The left two on the bottom will
break so avoid. Use sled in next room. Feed the hawk.
At the ice queens' (note how everybody has punny names like Icebella and
Antony in this game) quickly play the harp. Defeat yeti with the pie (no
really, you throw the pie at him and he dies). In crystal room, get central
crystal with hammer. Return for Cedric and go down. As the roc dumps you in
the nest, quickly grab amulet (however THAT came there).
Take crowbar from beach. Fix boat with beeswax. Sail south, then east until
you get to the island. Once more, play the harp quickly. Grab fishhook,
owl and conch shell, return to shore. Give shell to deaf sailor.
Take another dead fish (woohoo, two dead fish in one game). Use crystal to
pass statues. Use crowbar to open grate. Maze directions are SNNENE, then
give tambourine to the beast and get his hairpin. Now SWNNNWNNEWEWNWNE and
open lock with pin (that is a KEY according to the game, you don't even get
to pick the lock). Grab peas from closet. Give amulet to Cassima.
SAVE YOUR GAME. NOW and in every room, since Mordack will show up at random
times and kill you. Find the blue critter who randomly walks around and let
him catch you. Get cheese from mousehole using fishhook. Wait for Cassima to
save you and follow her.
Next time you see the blue critter, use peas on him QUICKLY (and in some
rooms this isn't even possible). Next time you see the cat, use fish then
peabag on him. Find the library, read book, wait for ten minutes.
Mordack should sleep now. His wand is conveniently next to him (gee, I wish
Manannan had been that stupid in KQ3). In his lab, use both wands on the
weird machine (yes, Crispin's wand is actually good for something), then add
the rotting cheese to activate the machine (what on earth!!). Quickly take
Crispin's wand and get ready for the duel.
Mordack -> dragonish thingy, you -> tiger (fourth spell)
Mordack -> real dragon, you -> bunny (second spell)
Mordack -> snake, you -> mongoose (first spell)
Mordack -> fire, you -> raincloud (third spell) which kills him.
And there's the ending sequence, and you're done.
