Introduction to the game [ITRO]
-------------------------------
Jolly Rover is a classic point and click adventure game. You need to click
on various parts of the environment and utilize your inventory in creative
ways to advance through the game. The game features many hidden collectibles
and a "point" system to grade you on your progess, as well as many
achievements (or loot) to earn.
This walkthrough will help you earn every achievement and earn the maximum
score possible.

Main Menu [MMOS]

After starting the game, you will be prompted to enter your name.
You can create multiple usernames if multiple people want to play the game.
Following that,the main menu will be displayed:
1. Set Sail: Start a New Game.
2. Continue: If you have a saved game, continue it here.
3. Log: Keeps track of your collectibles on your most recent playthrough.
4. Loot: Displays your earned achievements in the form of medals.
5. Options: Adjust various sound and other settings.
6. Help: Gives you a brief overview of how to play the game.
7. Quit: Exits the game.
8. Change: Located in the upper left corner of the screen,
you can change the active user here.

Note on collectibles, the hint system, and voodoo [COHV]
--------------------------------------------------------
There are three different collectibles in this game: Crackers,
Pieces of Eight, and Flag Pieces. Crackers are always found
in groups of 3, and can be fed to Juan for an extra hint.
Pieces of Eight are found one at a time, and can be given
to various characters to skip puzzle elements. This is NEVER
necessary, however, and should not be done when going
for a perfect score. Flag pieces are found one at a time,
and there are 4 in each area.
In total, there are 90 crackers, 24 Pieces of Eight, and
12 Flag Pieces. For every 10 crackers you find, you will unlock
pieces of concept art. For every 3 Pieces of Eight you find,
you will unlock a new music track. Every flag you complete will
unlock a bio of one of the pirate captains in the game.
Also, once you leave an area, you will be unable to return and get
any collectibles you missed. The exception is Groggy Island, as you will
briefly return before the end of the game. Certain collectibles will still
become unavailable though, so make sure to get them all on your first visit
and then get the new ones on the return trip.
There are two ways to get hints: one way is by holding
the space bar, which will highlight any hotspots in the area.
If the name of an object is still shown in blue when you mouse over it, Rover
still has something to say about it.
Shortly after you begin the game, Juan the parrot will tag
along with you. You can ask him for help by using him on Rover,
and he'll give a vague hint. If you need more help, you can give
him a cracker for a more detailed explanation. Note that you
can use the spacebar and get vague hints freely without penalty.
However, giving Juan a cracker for a hint will prevent you from
getting the "Adventure Gamer" achievement.
Partway through your adventure, you will have to start using
voodoo spells to make progress. Spells are performed by making a combination
of 4 poses and noises (from a group of 15) using a cheat sheet given to you
when you first learn about voodoo. To simplify learning new spells, I will
use this numbering system:

For example, if I list a spell that goes 7E25, it would be second row second
column, third row fifth column, first row second column, first row
fifth column. After you successfully cast a spell once, you can click the icon
for the spell on the right side of the cheat sheet to automatically do the
correct movements.

Walkthrough [MPWT]

***Howell's Ship [HOSH]***
Start out by telling Captain Howell that you'll never join his crew.
After Howell leaves, search everywhere in the room. Make sure you get the
PIECE OF EIGHT from the Treasure Chest and the FLAG PIECE from the
Heavy Cannon! A scene will automatically trigger once you've
examined all the hotspots, and you'll escape the Brig.
Once you fall through the wall, Melvin will appear. Choose
any two topics originally, but tell him you have no idea
about the rum story.
You'll want to pick up the SCARF under the collapsed barrels,
the KEYS on the wall next to Melvin, and your first three
CRACKERS in the barrel on the bottom right. Use the KEYS
on the BRIG DOOR to return to the first area.
Pick up the LAMP on the barrel, then combine the LAMP and SCARF
to make an OILY SCARF. Head back to the Hold, and use the OILY SCARF
with the RUSTY LOCK on the parrot cage. Use the KEYS on the OILED LOCK
to free the parrot, then use the PARROT on ROVER. Head back to Melvin
and tell him the story happened in PORT SICKLE, and were thrown
in the brig for 10 DAYS and were SWABBIN' THE DECKS in SILK DRESSES.
After he leaves, follow Melvin up the stairs.
Talk to Melvin again and ask him to open the hatch, give him
any excuse you like. Remember how he knocks on the hatch, then go up and do it
yourself. Ask to stretch your legs, and then to switch places. Bobby will
refuse, so head into the Galley on the left.
Take the CRACKERS from the left Cupboard on the wall, and the PEPPERCORNS
from the bag next to the sink. Also take the DRIED FISH hanging above the
sink. Use the OILY SCARF on the far left window, open it, then use the
DRIED FISH on the hook in front of that window to make the pirate get up
and spill his rum. Use the PEPPERCORNS with the SPILLED RUM, then open
the window again. Pick up the RUM on the floor after the pirate goes
for a swim. Leave the Galley and head to the Sleeping Quarters on the opposite
side.
Examine the PIRATE BOOTS on the floor for a PIECE OF EIGHT, then click on
Pete. He wants Rum, so use your RUM on him with little success. Leave
the Sleeping Quarters and head up the hatch again. Tell Bobby that Pete's
drunk, and you will escape the ship.

***Groggy Island [GRIS]***
From your starting area, head west down the Town Street and head in front
of the Stumble Inn, the building with a sign of a man falling over. Examine
the barrels to the left of the Inn for a PIECE OF EIGHT. Check the barrel
to the right of the Inn for CRACKERS. After getting both, head into the Inn.
Tell Howell to sign you up for his crew, and give him any reason for being
a cook. Ask him about making it to be directed to the cook in the back. Before
heading to the kitchen, talk to the Insane Pirate on the left and accept
the CRACKERS. Talk to Puggy and ask him about what there is to eat, then
ask for the crackers to get...CRACKERS. Examine the bucket of crackers
on the back counter for even more CRACKERS. Talk to Davey on the bench
and tell him your hat is a family heriloom, and offer to get him a new one
to earn a PIECE OF EIGHT. Head to the back kitchen once you're done.
Examine the bucket in front of the fire stove for a PIECE OF EIGHT, then open
the metal stove to find CRACKERS. Examine the cupboard behind the chef's rump
to find more CRACKERS. It's a pretty small area, but mouse over the area and
you'll grab them. Examine the Cook Books on the shelf by the door to find out
about the missing page, then leave the Inn and head west to Turtle Beach.
Examine the sand mound to get TURTLE EGGS, then examine the mound again for a
FLAG PIECE. Head up the pathway to the Cliff Shack. Walk left and ask Ron
about the Salamagundi recipe, then head back down to the beach. Pick up the
FISHING NET next to the sand mound, then use the FISHING NET on the palm trees
to make a hammock. Use the hammock to jump over and land next to Ron.
LOOT EARNED: Invented Trampoline
Say hi to Ron, and inquire about his request to get the VOODOO FOR PIRATES
book and the VOODOO CHEAT SHEET. Use the VOODOO FOR PIRATES on ROVER,
then ask Ron about what the birds eat. Examine the cannons for a FLAG PIECE,
then go back to Turtle Beach. Take your HAMMOCK back, and examine the
palm trees for a PIECE OF EIGHT. Head back to the Town Street.
----Please read the note on the collectibles, hint system, and voodoo
section to understand the numbering I use for the future voodoo spells.----
Talk to Scruffy in his fishing stall, and ask about his wares then about
your fishing net. Offer to trade your net for a fish, then go back to the
Cliff Shack. Stand next to Ron and use the VOODOO CHEAT SHEET on ROVER, then
use 1AD8 to make Rover glow red. Quickly use the PICKLED HERRING with one of
the birds to make them fly away. Talk to Ron and tell him of your success
to get the RECIPE. Use the RECIPE on ROVER to read it, then ask RON
about the necessary spices to get SPICES. As you leave, you will see a monkey
perform a voodoo spell. Click on the mango tree and use your VOODOO
CHEAT SHEET again, and use 039E to get a MANGO. Go all the way back to the
Fort.
Knock on the tree to the right of the guard, then use the Drop Fruit spell.
Head into the fort and use the candle holder, then open the cabinet for a
FLAG PIECE and a PIECE OF EIGHT. Examine the wine rack to get WINE.
Click on the cupboard to hide in it. After the scene, click on the cupboard
again for a PIECE OF EIGHT. Head all the way back to the Cliff Shack,
and use the WINE with the skull on the gate to get UNCORKED WINE. Finally,
head back to the Stumble Inn Kitchen.
Use the PEPPERCORNS on the mortar and pestle on the counter to get PEPPER.
Use the PEPPER on the chef, then pick up the HAM. Use the HAM, MANGO,
PICKLED HERRING, SPICES, and UNCORKED WINE with the mixing bowl. Use the
TURTLE EGGS with the cauldron, then use the BOILED EGGS with the mixing bowl.

***Cannibal Island [CAIS]***
Upon waking up, take the note next to you to get CRACKERS. Examine the mound
of sand to find a PIECE OF EIGHT, then try to take the CONCH. Examine the
hanging skeleton closest to the exit to find a PIECE OF EIGHT. Click
on the skull with the black hat lying in the sand to get a SKULL. Use
the SKULL on the conch, then pick up the CONCH. Head into the jungle.
Take the CRACKERS, MANGO, and BARREL in this area. Head to the next area,
and use your VOODOO CHEAT SHEET. Use the pattern 8DA1, then use the mango
on the pig to trigger the trap. Go back to the beach area and take the
CANNIBAL SIGN. Go back to the crevice and use the CANNIBAL SIGN with the hole.
Take the RUM hanging by the tree and the CRACKERS at the base of the tree.
Head right into the next area.
Pull out the VOODOO CHEAT SHEET and cast the Scare Beasts spell, then use
the mango on the pig. After the scene, take the CRACKERS by the tree
and examine the MURDEROUS TRAP to find a FLAG PIECE. Head all the way back
to the beach again and examine the broken jug to find more CRACKERS. Go all
the way to the back of the jungle to the Stockade.
Examine the net in the back twice to get a PIECE OF EIGHT. Check the charcoal
under the cauldron to get CHARCOAL. Look in the cauldron to get CRACKERS.
Look into the bars on the side of the fence for more CRACKERS. Head left
to a waterfall area.
Examine the plants on the left side of the screen for a PIECE OF EIGHT.
Take some of the DRIED CORN on the bird feeder, then look at the plants in
the upper left to reveal a cauldron. Examine it, then use the MANGO and RUM
with the cauldron. Use your VOODOO CHEAT SHEET and select pattern 7C4A.
Examine the cauldron again to get MANGO JAM. Use the MANGO JAM on the bird
feeder, then leave the area and come back. Take the STICKY FEATHERS from
the bird feeder and head back to the camp area.
Observe the secret knock, then combine your BARREL with your CHARCOAL.
Use your STICKY FEATHERS with your new BARREL WITH FACE to get a TRIBAL MASK.
Use the TRIBAL MASK with ROVER, then go to the door and copy the secret knock.
Say your name is Julie Rover, and that Captain Butcher sent you out to make a
mask.
LOOT EARNED: Masquerade
After the scenes, choose any path in the caves until you appear at the
entrance again. Examine the sign twice to get a PIECE OF EIGHT, then go back
to the camp and talk with Captain Howell through the bars. Agree to help
him escape, then used the DRIED CORN with the cauldron. Cast the Heat Iron
spell to bring Rufus outside, and just wrap up your conversation. Knock on the
palm tree near the cauldron, then cast the Drop Fruit spell to knock Rover
out again and get the KEYS. Howell will give you GUN POWDER as thanks.
Select the bars again to get a FLAG PIECE, and head to the waterfall area.
Examine the dried corn again to get more DRIED CORN and some CRACKERS.
Head all the way back to the beach and examine the horizon to get another
FLAG PIECE. You're ready to go into the caverns, so head back to the entrance.
Combine your RUM and CONCH together, then use the GUN POWDER on the stump.
Place the CONCH on the stump, then take out the VOODOO CHEAT SHEET once
again and use pattern E74B to get the MAGIC CONCH. Head into the caverns
once more.
For this area, you need to use the MAGIC CONCH on each possible exit.
If you hear a ghost singing, take the exit you just used the conch on.
For each area after that, take the exit that adds on more to the song.
Once you take the exit with the complete lyric, you'll arrive at the
Red Herring.
Enter the cabin on the left, and examine the jar on the desk for a PIECE OF
EIGHT. Click on the jar again to obtain the EMPTY JAR. Examine the pillow
to find a SMALL KEY. Open the wardrobe on the right to get CRACKERS. Use
the SMALL KEY on the cupboard to find a PIECE OF EIGHT and a LARGE KEY.
Use the LARGE KEY on the left chest to get a PIECE OF EIGHT and a CUTLASS.
Combine the LARGE KEY and the SMALL KEY to get a SUPER KEY. Use the
SUPER KEY on the chest next to the desk for COMPASS 1 and Silvereye's Journal.
Head all the way back to the waterfall area next to the camp.
Use the EMPTY JAR on the cauldron to find a FLAG PIECE, then use the EMPTY
JAR on the waterfall to get a JAR WITH INGREDIENTS. Combine the JAR OF
INGREDIENTS with both the GUN POWDER and the RUM, then head back to the deck
of the Red Herring. Use the JAR WITH INGREDIENTS on Clara, then use the jar
on the hatch. Use the VOODOO CHEAT SHEET to cast pattern 652C.

***Shipwreck Island [SHIS]***
Examine the barrels on the beach for CRACKERS. Take the ROPE on the ground,
the BLOCK hanging from the crane, and the CRANK on the crane. Leave the ship
area and go to the Lookout Point.
Take the CRACKERS in the first crate, and examine the cannonballs to the right
of the crate for a PIECE OF EIGHT. Examine the BARREL O' GUNPOWDER to add it
to your inventory, although you won't actually pick it up. Head right into
the forest.
Take the BLOCK sitting on the ground, then use SILVEREYE'S CUTLASS on the
hanging vines on the left. Examine the face on the bottom left for CRACKERS,
as well as the top face for more CRACKERS. Combine your ROPE with a BLOCK,
then combine the BLOCK AND ROPE with the other BLOCK for a BLOCK AND TACKLE.
Use the BLOCK AND TACKLE with the looping vines on the upper right, then use
the BARREL O' GUNPOWDER with the BLOCK AND TACKLE. Head back over to Lookout
Point and examine where the barrel used to be to find a FLAG PIECE.
Return to the barrel and use the VINE on it, then click on the BLOCK AND
TACKLE to hoist the barrel up the cliff. Head to the right and examine
the blockage, then use the BARREL O' GUNPOWDER in your inventory with the
blockage. Use SILVEREYE'S CUTLASS with the barrel, then cast the Heat Iron
spell.
In the next area, take the LARGE JUG by the well, and use the CRANK on the
well. Use the well to get COMPASS 2. Use the well again to get a PIECE
OF EIGHT. Head to the Grave and read the tombstone, then ask Clara about
her birthday. Use SILVEREYE'S JOURNAL on ROVER and skim through it. Click
on the wheel, then turn it right (clockwise) 5 times, left 8 times,
right 6 times, and left 3 times to unlock the treehouse.
First, examine the rug by the bed for a FLAG PIECE. Use the SUPER KEY with the
chest at the foot of the bed to get a PIECE OF EIGHT and a WOODEN BANANA.
Open the wardrobe for another PIECE OF EIGHT, then use the WOODEN BANANA on
the fruit bowl to reveal COMPASS 3. Take the SMALL JUG on the second
cabinet shelf, and examine the top drawers on the cabinet for a PIECE OF
EIGHT. Examine the bottom drawers twice for CRACKERS and more CRACKERS.
Leave the treehouse and go back to the Grave.
Use your VOODOO CHEAT SHEET and use pattern C256 to put Silvereye to rest
and get another FLAG PIECE. Head back to the treehouse boat and examine
the tree directly behind it to get more CRACKERS. Head right into the forest.
The trick here is to match the compass holes with the ones on the stumps.
I believe they are randomized, so use each compass on a stump and rotate them
until it clicks. In the first area, the top stump should always come first,
so follow it to the end before you use the second stump. Some stumps
will require you to use multiple compasses at once to cover up or create
more holes.
At the end of the first trail, you will come to a totem pole with slots
in the base. Put COMPASS 1 on the bottom slot, COMPASS 2 in the middle slot,
and COMPASS 3 on the top slot. Take the UGLY MUG from the top of the totem,
then take all 4 plates from the totem. Examine the slot that was between
compasses 3 and 4 to find a PIECE OF EIGHT. Click on the right arm of the
left tree to push it down, revealing CRACKERS in it's mouth. Look at the
top of the right tree to find a bag. Try to take it, then cast the Heat Iron
spell to get the final FLAG PIECE.
LOOT EARNED: Flag Waver
Go back to the entrance of the forest and begin using the compasses on the
other stump. Follow the new trail until you arrive at another waterfall.
Examine the hole in the base of the tree for more CRACKERS, then use the
UGLY MUG with the capstan. Examine the ugly mug to find an image of a
single drop of water. You now need to use your two jugs together
to fill one up with only a single unit of water. First, fill
the small jug at the waterfall, then combine it with the large jug.
Fill the small jug and transfer it over to the large jug again to
be left with one unit of water left in the small jug. Use the small jug
with one water unit on the ugly mug, then turn the capstan. Examine the
capstan again for another PIECE OF EIGHT. Head into the cave entrance that
appears. Choose any responses when talking with DeSilver, until you are
taken to Spit Island.
LOOT EARNED: Treasure!
Take the BOOT on the left, the NOOSE by the tree, and the CRACKERS in the
barrel. Use the BOOT on ROVER twice to get a PIECE OF EIGHT.
LOOT EARNED: Coin Collector
Cast the Lure Beasts spell and use the BOOT on the sea to summon a turtle.
Use the NOOSE on the turtle, then cast Scare Beasts and jump into the barrel.

***Groggy Island Revisited [GIP2]***
Head to the Stumble Inn first, and select the cracker bucket on the
bar to get more CRACKERS. Head back to the fort and cast the Heat Iron
spell to make Rufus drop his helmet. Tap the palm tree next to him and
cast the Drop Fruit spell to knock him out yet again.
LOOT EARNED: Skull Cracker
Enter the fort, and examine the fruit bowl to get WOODEN FRUIT. Examine the
bowl again to activate the secret lever. Enter the passageway that opens, then
use the WOODEN FRUIT on DeSilver. Tell him to think fast! Use the crane to
bring Clara over, then take the CUTLASS on the ledge. Examine the rocks at the
entrance of the cavern to get a ROCK. Check the bookshelf in the back to get
CRACKERS, and examine the cauldron to get the final set of CRACKERS.
LOOT EARNED: Cracker Packer
Check the CANVAS BAG on the right, then use it with the vent. Pick up the
SAIL CANVAS and use it on the basket, then use the ROCK on the vent. After
the balloon inflates, take the ROCK off of the vent again and jump into the
basket. Use the CUTLASS on the basket to take off and complete the game!

decks of the ship at the beginning of the game.
-Invented Trampoline: Obtained once you spread the net between the palm trees
and ambush the guy.
-Yo Ho Ho!: Joined a pirate crew. Obtained after making the salamagundi.
-Masquerade: Infiltrated pirate stockade.
-Captain Rover: Sailed to Shipwreck Island.
-Treasure!: Found Silvereye's treasure
-Turtle Steed: Rode a sea turtle.
-Skull Cracker: 3x coconut knock-out.
-Clown Pirate: Defeated DeSilver.
-Ballooning: Escaped in a hot air balloon.

-Maximum Score: Earn maximum points (1439). Essentially, obtain every cracker,
flag piece, and piece of eight in one playthrough, then finish the game.
