Who'd ever thought that a game that's quite old will have a FAQ written for it?
I myself had not envisioned this, until I voiced my thought to a friend.
This FAQ is about and only about materials needed to research a new machine in
the game 'Free Enterprise'. This FAQ assumes that you have familiarised
yourself with the game's interface, as I will not make any attempts to explain
it again.
Free Enterprise lives up to it's name. You can choose to start your business in
50 cities of the United States of America. You run your business from the
factory, where your operations are centered. With over 100 machines to choose
from, it is up to you to run the business as efficient and profitable as
possible. Did I mentioned that the employees have their own personality, and
acts like Sims from Maxis' The Sims?

What this FAQ is all about. Note that 'research' applies only to machine
unknown to the market, while 'upgrade' is for machines that is known. You can
see this from the Catalog.

3.0 Misc. Info
-------------------------------
All the other informations that should've belonged to the game's main FAQ,
however there's none of them.
3.1 Cheats
-------------------------------
>The Money Cheat
-------------------------------
(This assumes that you have no other loan)
First, make a lon of $250,000 for 5 years. Make another loan (Loan #2) for the
same terms (if you are unable to make a $250,000 loan, choose any options that
is available to you). Pay off the first loan. You should now have only one loan
left, that is 'Loan #2'. Make another loan. Instead of creating a new loan, the
game will overwrite 'Loan #2'.
Note * You don't have to repay 'Loan #2', but it will be better if you do.
* Unpatched versions of Free Enterprise is unable to handle anything over
$25,000,000 and will turn it to a negative number instead.
* Instead of making a new loan of $250,000; try other options, as there
are too many for me to describe here.
* To make things easier, make the second loan as $50,000. Press and hold
the 'Enter' button. Faster money!
3.2 Fun Stuff
-------------------------------
If you had selected 'Editable Personalities' in the New Game dialog box, you
should be able to get Freakenstein and Bride of Freakenstein skin when you edit
the personalities.
3.3 Hints and Tips
-------------------------------
* The computer ALWAYS have the right material for research and they research
much more slowly. Spy on them.
* Intergrated Circuit Boards and Steel Cases = Easy Money.
* While researching for a machine, stop ordering materials needed for the
machine as your researchers ain't producing nothing...yet.
* A city with big population and low rent is easy to make profit in.
* Without 'Auto-paperwork', you'll need to have an accountant, a clerk and a
salesperson. The manager for accountants and clerks is the controller.
* Give the blue-collar workers at least two task to keep them busy.
* After deciding what to produce and buying the machine(s), don't hire anyone
yet. Try waiting for two weeks or a month, as you'll save money rather then
hiring them to sit around and do nothing.
* Group white collar workers that does the same work together, for example
Marketeers with their peers and you have one, with the Marketing Director.
Blue collar workers are exempt from this rule.
* Storage Bins allows for larger stockpile of input, and usually two machines
can be filled with one person in this way.
* 'Robo-workers' doesn't smoke, complain or ask for a raise. So cut their as
much as possible.
* Put all your money in the savings account on the last day of the month.
You'll get a little interest.
* Place storage zones near machine's input and storage bins. Your workers will
load them faster.
* Forlifts and pushcarts are used by workers who are rated below 83% in their
resume.
* Skipping a machine while researching makes research longer.
* Don't rent a building which is bigger than what you need. You will save a
lot of money at the beginning of the month.
* If you can monopolize, then monopolize.
