[003] Overview
----------------
This guide is intended for use at end game (after completing the game
and obtaining all Crystarium Grid levels) to max out all characters
Crystarium Grids.
There is a choice of two possible grind locations.
The First involves grinding the Ochu pack at Paddra's Pasture in Archylte
Steppe repeatedly which provides the highest CP per Hour in the game.
This strategy is well known from the JP version of the game, of which
you may find guides or videos, however for the ENG version some differences
are present and requires a different approach.
The second grind location is the Behemoth and Megistotherian pack on
the Archylte Steppe, and always starts with a pre-emptive strike. If your
stats (specifically STR) are high enough you can end this fight in 1/2
turns.
-----------------------------------------------
[004] Ochu Pack - Differences with JP version
-----------------------------------------------
The Major difference between the English version and Japanese version
of the game is that In the Japanese version you can pre-emptive the Ochu
pack making it end extremely fast. In the English version this is no longer
possible however it is still a very good place to grind CP.
The First choice is the Ochu Pack, the second choice is the Behemoth and
Megistotherian pack.
===============
[006] Ochu pack
===============
The Ochu pack will award 26,600CP with the Growth Egg in addition to the
following Items dropped (use collector catalogues to improve drop rates)
- Sunpetal (sells for 1K)
- Gloomstalk (sells for 1K)
I am not sure if collector catalogue effects stack but with 2
equipped you can make around 20-50k per hour from selling sunpetals
and gloomstalks.
Also you will obtain:
- Chocobo Tail Feather
- Chocobo Plume
Both of these items are -Excellent- for gaining EXP bonuses on weapons you
only need around 15-20 of each to get 3x EXP bonus.
So overall the Ochu pack is a great place to gain good CP per hour whilst
also gaining money and exp bonus to upgrade weapons and accessories. This
may be more ideal if your primary grids are not maxed, and if you want to
work on upgrading weapons and accessories at the same time.
=====================================================
[007] Behemoth and Megistotherian (Thanks to Enaress)
=====================================================
The Behemoth and Megistotherian will award 13,200CP with the Growth Egg.
This pack is located in The Archylte Steppe - Northern Highplain near the
entrance to Mah'habara and you will see the two monsters fighting each other.
Engaging combat will -always- start the fight with a pre-emptive strike.
The monsters first turn will be attacking each other as well. In addition
both monsters start with 50% of their usual HP.
The general idea with this fight is to kill both the behemoth king
and Megistotherian in the first battle turn. This results in a 6-9 second
fight time and 13200 CP (with growth egg). You will need to use your highest
STR characters so I recommend using Lightning, Snow and Fang.
Overall this pack is Significantly faster than Ochu, however you will not
gain money or items to gain fast EXP bonuses on weapons or accessories. It
is a better spot if:
- you want to focus on only on CP and upgrading character grids
- If your weapons/accessories are well levelled on all characters
----------------------------
[008] General Pre-requisites
----------------------------
- Must have completed the game to unlock all Crystarium Grid levels.
- I strongly recommend finishing Mission 55 (Stone is located in Oerba on
the schoolhouse roof, which is the roof with the garden/flowers) to obtain
the Growth Egg (CP X 2) as this will greatly speed up the process.
Also
- Learn about ATB refresh on Paradigm changes. When you change Paradigms
you and all allies will start the next turn with full ATB gauges.
- After switching to a new paradigm on the second turn and onwards after the
change you can switch paradigms again to start the next turn with full ATB
gauges.
- Switching between offensive Paradigms every 2 turns ensures you obtain the
highest number of attacks as fast as possible.
------------------------------------
[009] Pre-requisites for Ochu Pack
------------------------------------
- I recommend all characters having around 8k+ HP, you should have plenty
of CP after finishing the game so use it on the newly unlocked Crystarium
level 10 which has a lot of high HP nodes.
- Must have completed mission 14 to unlock Chocobo's to reach Paddra's
Pasture (This is located near the 7 Cie'th Stones in the Archylte Steppe
Main field)
- You should upgrade Fang's default weapon to Tier 2 (Glaive) and upgrade
to as high level as possible.
- The Ochu pack to grind is located very near to where you fight the Mission
55 monster, opposite to where you fight this battle is a area with a
chest, when you get near that chest the Ochu appears.

Your battle strategy will depend on your current HP and equipped Accessories.
The basic strategy is to buff Fang with Haste, Enfire and Bravery in order to
do the highest possible damage. For this to happen your Synergists will cast
Haste, Veil, Enfire, Protect, Shell, Bravery, Vigilance, Faith in that order.
You want to spend as little time buffing as possible hence why we equip
accessories that auto-provide this buff so that the synergists move straight
to buffing Enfire, Bravery, Vigilance and Faith.
With Enfire/Bravery Ochu should die in about 6-8 Turns if Fang is attacking
alone.
You can always try getting lucky using accessories/weapon combo that gives
[Random: Instant Break] but this strategy is about consistency rather than
luck.
As mentioned earlier you should switch paradigms during the final attack
animation(ie when Fang splits her spear) to have a full ATB gauge right after
the last attack.
-----------------------------------------------------
[016] Battle Strategy - Behemoth and Megistotherian
-----------------------------------------------------
You will need to start the fight with the Cerberus Paradigm
(COM/COM/COM) This is the only paradigm you will need.
Note: Character #2 (character second from left on menu) will assist party
leader while character #3 will attack the Megistotherian.
So planning around how the AI reacts, you highest STR character should be
Character #3, this character should stack STR bangles and Morale Talisman
(Auto-Bravery) in accessory slots.
Note: the following is a rough idea of how I approach each battle turn by
turn with haste this will be going really fast so may require practice. You
may also wish to practice with the timing of ATB switching (when Fang
performs attack #5).
=================================
With 10k+ HP + Listed Accessories
=================================
Starting with COM/SYN/SYN
Turn 1: 5x Attack on Ochu
Turn 2: 5X Attack on Ochu + Switch Paradigm to Relentless Assault
Turn 3: 5x Attack on Ochu
Turn 4: 5x Attack on Ochu + Switch Paradigm to Relentless Assault #2
Turn 5: 5X Attack on Ochu
Turn 6: 5x Attack on Ochu + Switch Paradigm to Relentless Assault
Turn X: Repeat Turn 3-6 until everything is dead.
If Fang gets launched into the air, just carry on with the method.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Estimated Battle Time ~ 1 Min - 1min 30 Seconds
Approx CP per hour ~ 900k - 1.2 M (max is 999,999 so use before it caps!)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Final time may depend on how often Fang gets knocked into the air.
(Thanks to Thomiroth for mentioning walking time/battle cinematic time
for CP/hr calculation)
=============================================
With less than 10k+ HP/ no Listed Accessories
=============================================
Starting with COM/SYN/SYN
Turn 1-2: Kill a Microchu
Turn 3-4: Kill another Microchu
Turn 5-Ochu uses "Screech": 5x attack on Ochu
Now ochu will probably use Screech doing around 3-4k damage and removing some
buffs.
After Ochu uses Screech.
Turn A: Switch to Hero's Charge, 5X attack on Ochu
Turn A2: 5X attack on Ochu + switch to Relentless Assault
Turn A3: 5X attack on Ochu
Turn A4: 5X attack on Ochu + switch to Relentless Assault #2
Turn A5: 5X attack on Ochu
Turn A6: 5X attack on Ochu + switch to Relentless Assault
Repeat A3-A6 Until the fight is over, You may want to switch to Diversity
Paradigm if you are dying.
If Fang gets launched into the air, just carry on with the method.
--------------------------------------------
Estimated Battle Time ~ 1Min 40s - 2min 30s
Approx CP per hour ~ 700k-800k
--------------------------------------------
Final time may depend on how often Fang gets knocked into the air.
(Thanks to Thomiroth for mentioning walking time/battle cinematic time
for CP/hr calculation)
---------------------------------------------------
[018] Battle Method - Behemoth and Megistotherian
---------------------------------------------------
Starting with COM/COM/COM
Turn 1: 5x Attack on Behemoth
(2nd character/second from left character on menu screen will assist you)
(3rd character - Fang will solo Megistotherian)
--------------------------------
Estimated Battle Time ~ 6s - 9s
Approx CP per hour ~ 2.5m - 2.9m
--------------------------------
After Killing the Ochu you now want it to respawn. To do this head near the
nearby chocobo then run back to where you fought Ochu and should have
respawned.
Note: There is also a cactuar nearby which is a 40s fight for 10k CP(with egg)
but doesn't auto respawn like the ochu pack.
If you are grinding Behemoth/Megi run to a few steps beyond the save point
(next to the chocobo) and the pack should have respawned.
Happy Grinding!
