Evoland FAQ
Hello everyone! My name is Jon, better known as ArrestedGaming, and
this is my first ever FAQ/walkthrough. This is a full walkthrough
from beginning to end with as many of the secrets as I could find on
my first playthrough. This FAQ will be updated as I continue to play
and find the rest of the unlockables.

COMMON QUESTIONS [CQ]
Question 1: You made a mistake/there's a spelling error/ you missed
something.
Answer: None of these are questions, but if you see any of these
things are true, please contact me through gamefaq or email me at
[email protected], along with your username. I'll fix
or add in the info you give me and credit you at the bottom.
Question 2: Your walkthrough is awesome!
Answer: Still not a question, but thank you!
Question 3: Your walkthrough sucks!1!!
Answer: STILL NOT A QUESTION! Also, tell me how I can make it better
then please.
Question 4: Where do I find the cards/stars?
Answer: Search using [SS] for the stars, and [SC] for the cards.
I'll out as many as I find in the original playthrough where you'll
find them, but any cards/stars I miss will be added in the
BACKTRACKAPALOOZA!!! Section, along with any end of the game side
quests.
THE BEGINNING [E1]
Well... Right off the bat, we have some difficult puzzles! /sarcasm
So head right, touch the chest, learn you can move left, and now
head up to the top chest. With the game now being able to scroll,
head up and just follow the path. After getting improved scrolling,
head across the bridge to the right, then down past the chest on the
right to a different chest below. This gives you the sword, and you
are now able to attack enemies and deadly bushes with the ENTER or
E button. Cut down the grass to blocking the chest we passed earlier
to spawn monsters! These only take one hit, but you can only take
one hit as well. Go ahead and kill these monsters before picking up
the chest with music. Now, you'll see a strange symbol on the
ground, but that won't activate until you grab the chest a few more
steps north. Open that to unlock save points. All you have to do is
walk in the save point and the game auto saves for you.
Now we get a little exploration (seriously, only a little). Head to
the upper left first and grab the chest holding a "secret star."
[SS] Behind a couple more bushes to the left is a Bat card [SC] we
can use later. Now, head back to the save point, and go right.
Picking up the chest just over the bridge unlocks color! After
defeating the monster, head right over the bridge, as the path down
has nothing. Heading north lets you see a new enemy, bats, which
move much more sporadically so watch out. Above that is another
save point and a chest housing the deep and moving storyline.
Up and right of the save point is a chest containing another hidden
star. [SS] They don't seem to be very good at hiding these things,
do they? Now, if we head left, after defeating the octopus,
there is another chest with upgraded graphics. North of here is
another chest, giving you sign post, along with quite a few enemies.
Take them out as you head left, opening the chest to unlock free
movement. You are no longer restricted to the old school "grid"
style movement, now allowing you to move in 8 directions and to
help navigate tight areas. If you read the first sign, you would
see it said the path was only for agile warriors. We're pretty
agile now, so head back and slip between the rocks to get into a
new area with a new save point. In this new area, we find two
statues and a chest. Touching a statue brings it to life, and these
things are a bit tougher, taking three hits each, and you can't
attack head on since their shields will deflect the attack and push
you back a bit. After taking these two down, a stone to the north
explodes, opening more for you to see. Grab the chest to unlock your
inventory, which is pretty barren so far. Travel up to where the
boulder was, and you'll find yourself in a brand new overworld!
The game warns you about random encounters, but that won't come into
play until you grab the first chest along the path, changing the
combat system into a turn based RPG. You only have basic attacks and
a potion in the item menu, but that's all you need for now. Follow
the dirt path to the next chest, bringing Mode 7! Ahh, the good ol'
days. Just keep following the dirt path, fighting all slimes along
the way. Crossing the bridge up north brings you back into the
action RPG style as you leave the overworld. Grab the chest, head
north to the save, and fight off the 4 knights one at a time. After
the message pops saying you've unlocked a chest, head right to see a newly
spawned chest. Open it up and Papunika Village literally forms
around you. Talk about service! Head all the way left to find a
chest allowing you into people's homes. Might as well test this new
found power on the building to your north. The room on the left has
an innkeeper inside, allowing you to rest here for 10 glis, fully
healing you and allowing you to save. Follow the stone path back
to the center of town, and try to the building here. In the
rightmost room is a chest unlocking shopkeepers, and examining the
barrel in the same room nets you 50 glis! The shopkeeper does
nothing so far, so head out and head north. There's a chest here
opening up NPCs, but no one tells you anything since "You're just a
kid." Head further north and examine the well to find a secret area.
Follow the path east to find a Worm card [SC], and go back around to
the west now. Eat the strange nut to grow up, and gain some respect
from the villagers. The house next to the well is locked for now,
so let's head southeast to the last house. The barrel in the
leftmost room has a potion inside, and the chest has a Tork card
[SC]. Outside to the east is a guy blocking the bridge with a
barrel, saying you need to upgrade your equipment before he feels
safe letting you pass. Head back the shopkeep and buy the longsword
and copper armor. It's 250 Glis total, so if you don't have it, it's
time to grind! Get the sword first since it will allow you to one
shot the monsters to the south, making grinding that much easier.
If you want, you can grind another 500 Glis to get the Rare Card
Emuk. [SC] Each enemy gives 50 Glis upon being defeated, so it
honestly shouldn't take long. Grind if you want any more potions or
want a phoenix down. Rest up, and head back to the guy blocking the
path to resume your journey.
CRYSTAL CAVE [E2]
Open the chest blocking your way to get pulled into a forced battle.
Defeat the monsters and the unconscious girl will wake up. She'll
ask you to help her find a crystal in the cave, and in true RPG
fashion, thou must. Now Aeris (whoops, I meant Kaeris) joins your
party! She doesn't have as much strength, but does come with a nice
heal spell. Walk completely around the lake, ignoring the cave to
the north, and go to the bottom right corner of the forest to find
the Hidden Meadow. Here you'll find a Slime card [SC]. Now head on
back to the cave to progress the game. The path to the left has
nothing, so head north and open the chest with cave monsters. Even
though you have the overhead camera, you'll still be using turn
based combat. The next split, go left and examine the barrels and
crates for 50 glis and two potions. The left path once again has
nothing, so let's continue north. At the next fork, go left as the
right is blocked. The next treasure chest holds EXP points, allowing
you to now level and gain stats! This is very useful for obvious
reasons. Continue around full circle to get to the chest that was
blocked on the right path. Here is our next star! [SS] Take the
path north now to get a chest opening life springs which fully heal
you and allow you to save. If you want to grind, now is the best
time. Continue along and take the lower path to find a chest with
another card [SC], and a switch you can step on to activate
"something." Head up north and examine the crystal to start our
first boss battle!
BOSS BATTLE: Ghost of Kefka
This fight is pretty easy. If you've been fighting everything you
come across, you'll probably be around level 4 which is plenty high
enough. Kefka's Ghost only has two attacks. A basic attack
that does anywhere from 12-25 damage to one member, and a counter
attack that only activates if you attack it when it glows light
blue. This attack does around 20 damage to both party members.
Just attack with the main character (MC for short from now on) and
heal with Kaeris. There's no MP, so use that cure spell for all
it's worth, only attacking when you're full health. When the ghost
starts glowing, just wait until it stops to attack. There's no
defend or wait option, so just sit still until it stops.
OVERWORLD [E3]
After you've defeated the ghost, the game will go 3D! Head to the
circle onscreen and you'll be transported out of the dungeon. The
chest behind the tree has upgraded sound, and the chest next to the
path has life containers, meaning no more one shot kills in the
Action-RPG sections. From the chest, head south, cutting through
all the grass in your way to get another star [SS], and
the Zoomba card. [SC] Get back to the trail and follow it until you
reach the area where there are red flowers on both sides of you.
Turn left and start cutting down grass again. Follow the lake's
edge to reach a chest containing the Pakkun card! [SC] Head back up
the path and find a gap in the trees to the right. Kill all the
enemies here and pick up the chest near the bottom to get textures.
Go over the stone and tada! You're back near the beginning of the
game! We've got a little bit of backtracking to do!
Follow the path back, crossing two bridges, and you should be back
to a save area we used way back when. Head south, and go over the
stone that blocked our way earlier. The first two chests you see
contain a cinematic camera zoom and life pickups the enemies now
drop. Keep following the path until there is a patch of grass in
between sections of the path. Head south and cut through the grass,
then head west at the crossroads to reach a chest with a Wasp card.
[SC] Head back up to the path and go directly right to see a row of
grass. Cut it down to find another star [SS] in the chest. Go a bit
south then head straight east, picking up the two chests here for
better textures and another star! [SS] Go back and take the little
clearing heading south and you'll reach the overworld again. Grab
the chest blocking your way to turn the whole world 3D. Head
into the cave to start up the next dungeon, the Noira Mines!
NOIRA MINES [E4]
Head straight up and grab the chest to open the mines for exploring.
Take the north path because the left and right paths are blocked
for now. Grab the chest to get the ability to break pots. These
tend to drop hearts, so it can be very useful to break every one
you find if you're running low on health. Follow the path to find a
chest containing pressure plates. Step on them both to unlock the
door blocking your way. The next chest makes red wizards appear.
These guys are annoying because they'll shot a fireball, then warp
away. Kill the wizard, then head west and open the chest to trigger
a trap! Kill the bats that spawn, then open the new chest for a
key. Go all the way back to the beginning of the dungeon to...
Lol, just kidding. Use the key on the door immediately to your
right. This chest brings skeletons, which have an annoying tendency
to block your strikes. Just keep attacking and you'll break through
its defense. Just continue following the path, which will lead you
to a pressure plate and another wizard. Step on the pressure plate
to raise a path. Cross over and open the chest. Time for mazes! The
easiest route to the key you need, is up, right, up, left, up,
right, up. Now that we have the key, go down, then right. Follow
the path to another star! [SS] Follow the path back to where the
chest was. From the chest, go down, left, down, left, up, left, up,
right, up. Follow the path, taking out the skeletons to get to a
new chest with pushable blocks. Push all the blocks you find as far
up as you can to progress. In the next room, a trap will trigger and
you'll have 3 skeletons to face. In the next room, you'll have to
open the chest to defeat the monster. In the next area, pick the
right switch, as the left will spawn two skeletons. In the next
room, you'll unlock the tornado trap. They fire in waves of 3, so
just wait for three to fire, then pass by during their downtime.
Defeat the wizards in the next room and grab the chest to unlock
the light puzzle. Start at the bottom right corner, and head in a
circle (either way works, and hit the last button to unlock the
door.
In the next room, walk through the clearing of the spikes and watch
the whirlwind patteren. It goes in a pattern, coming from the right,
it starts at the bottom then works up in order. Get to the far
right to get a key for the previous room. Here's a save point and a
chest making lava appear. Lava only does half a heart, but you still
need to be careful. In the next room Kaeris gives you a hint to
watch your step, and she's not kidding. TAKE YOUR TIME! This room
forms a maze, and as you walk, parts of the floor drop out for you
to fall in. As long as you go slow, you'll see which blocks
drop and you can make it to the bottom of the room easily. The next
room has fireballs that push you into the lava, so it's all about
timing. The second room is where it gets tough. After the first
fireball passes, go down one block, diagonal down-left a block, then
down 2 another blocks to reach a safe spot. Wait for the next
fireball and follow it to make it through with no damage. Just
make sure you go to the end of the path before going down, because
the game has a troll block that will drop you if you try to cut
corners. The next room is fairly tough, with two wizards, two
skeletons, and about 3-4 bats. After beating all the enemies, the
door to the left will open, but first, go to the right to get a
chest with the boss room key. Now before heading to the boos door,
go north at the fork to go back into the dungeon where you can now
reach a chest holding a secret star. [SS] Now go through the boss
door to fight...
BOSS FIGHT: Shadow MC
Shadow MC has 3 attacks, The first is here shoots 3 fireballs in a
spread formation which isn't too hard to dodge as long as you run
away as you move up or down to dodge. The second attack is he
summons 2-3 shadow bats that fight just like regular bats. The
third attack is his charge attack. He'll envelop himself in light,
then dash forward. It's simple to dodge as long as you keep moving.
The only way to do damage to the boss is to trick him into charging
into a wall. He'll get stuck after you dodge his attack, and this
is your chance to hit him. 6 hits and he's dead!In the next room is
the legendary sword! Head out of the dungeon and open the chest to
get 3D battles. Back to turn based battles! Just head east to find
Aogai Village, Kaeris' home. Head north up the path to meet her
uncle Sid. He'll tell you that you need to find the two halves of
the Amulet of Gorn to get to the main baddie, but you need bombs to
get there. He'll point you in the direction of a bald card player
in the market. First though, we'll head right from this screen to
find a chest with better graphics. Head back to the first screen of
the village, and head east now. The chest all hold NPCs, the
leftmost one holding the card player you need to talk to!
Unfortunately he no longer has the bombs, directing you to the
nurse to the north. The other guy actually plays you in a card game,
so we can finally play with those cards we've been finding. This
plays EXACTLY like Triple Triad from Final Fantasy 8. The NPC is
happy to explain the rules, and you'll catch on quick. Go talk to
the healer, and she'll tell you the old woman back where we got
improved graphics now has the bombs. FETCH QUEST GO! Head back to
the old woman, and she'll ask you to kill a dragon before giving
you the bombs. Talk to the guy near the save, and he'll tell you to
talk to the woman near Sid. The woman is the mother of the child
running laps in the market, and she'll tell you he was playing with
the bombs. THERE IS NO DRAGON! Talk to the child to FINALLY get the
bombs. Kaeris will meet up with you and tell you she's learned a
new spell. She can now actually attack and do some nice damage, but
you'll still primarily use her for healing. Now before we head
south to the grove to continue the story, let's go back to the
mines we just left. There's some secrets to get! If you want, you
can skip this part because we're going to do a lot of backtracking
before the final boss to get all the collectables.
ITEM COLLECTION [E5]
Backtrack through the mines (don't hit the pressure plate in the
boss room. It just makes you fight Shadow MC again. In the path to
the boss room, you probably saw a cracked wall. Bomb it to find
a chest with a star. [SS] Head back into the dungeon and blow up
the next crack you see for another star! [SS] That should be 10 so
far, meaning we're 1/3 through finding all the stars! Keep going
until you get to the lava maze room. There is another cracked wall
on the north side of the room hiding another star. [SS] That's all
for now in the mines, and we have two options now. We can either
follow what they game tells us and go south to the groove, or we
can take another route to get the second part of the amulet now.
The choice is yours, but I'll take you the other route first
because it gives you one VERY nice thing in a chest, which is the
minimap! Plus, if you're trying to grind money for any reason, such
as trying to get the rare card from the merchant in town, this
area gives TONS of glis.
SECOND AMULET PIECE [E6]
Head back to the village and head north of the screen with the
healer. Follow the path until you reach a cave, and we have a new
style of combat. Welcome to Diablo/Torchlight! Grab every chest you
see as you explore for things like a life bar, combo attacks, and
the chance to play as Kaeris! The most dangerous foe here by far
are the magicians. They can attack from a distance, and their
fireballs do significantly more damage than the normal enemy
attacks. Explore every nook you find and you'll find two stars [SS]
and a card! [SC] Continue to follow the path, destroying everything
in sight until you reach an area on the minimap with a skull. Upon
opening the chest, we start a battle with the toughest boss yet.
That is, if you don't cheese it.
BOSS BATTLE: The Undead King
This boss has three major attacks. The first is a claw swipe, which
does very little damage. The second attack is a radial fireball
blast. This is by far the most damaging move, and pretty hard to
dodge at well. The third attack is summoning bats, but just like
the Shadow MC fight, the bats are a joke. Since we have no way of
healing, this fight can be very tough. The fireballs are hard to
dodge and do a good chunk of damage. If only there was a way of
completely blocking the attack. Luckily, there is a way, and I'll
share this super secret tip for just 9 easy payments of $9.99!
Or for free now I guess. Anyways, all you need to do is position
one of the tombstones in the area between you and the boss. When he
uses the fireball attack, the attack is blocked by the tombstone,
but you're still able to hit him through it! He'll still hit you
with his swipes, but they do MUCH less damage, and he'll still try
the fireball move on occasion, meaning free hits for you! The
"true" way of fighting this guy is playing a lot of hit and run.
Run up, do a combo, then run away so the fireballs can spread out
and you can dodge between the shots. This takes much more time
and effort, but ultimately feels more fulfilling. I guess. I
cheesed the shit out of this boss, so I don't know. After defeating
the boss, head back to where the door was blocking you before to
get the second piece of the amulet, and a teleport back to town.
FIRST AMULET PIECE [E7]
Now, we finally do what the games been telling us to do. Head south
of the village and head to the forest of orange and red leaves.
Sadly, the minimap doesn't work in these areas, but it's not that
big a deal. Bomb the cracked rocks to make a path for yourself, and
just follow the cleared area. Cross the bridge and smack the crystal
to revert back to 2D. Head back the way you came and head north at
your first chance. That tiny tree blocked you in the 3D, but is not
just part of the tile in 2D, so we can head north and explore!
Smack the new crystal and head underground though the hole in the
clearing ahead. In this area, we just have one giant lava maze. Like
last time, take it slow, and don't be afraid to backtrack if you're
stuck in a bad situation Step by step though, you'll want to hug the
left wall until the second lava drop opens. Turn right here, and
then go south two blocks when you hit the lava pits. Turn right and
go straight until you hit the end of the floor. Follow the right
wall all the way up to the cracked wall. Bomb it and you'll find a
star. [SS] Take one more step the way you were going before bombing
the wall, and go down two blocks. Go one block left, then 3 more
down, two right, and head down to get a bow from the treasure chest.
Now retrace your steps to get back out into the open. Time to switch
back to 2D. Use your new bow to shot an arrow through the fire,
burning down the small tree. Now we can switch back to 3D and move
further into the grove. Switch dimensions again at the next crystal
and pass by the tiny tree. You'll have to fire an arrow through the
fire to light the burnt out torch, then another arrow through that
fire the burn down the tree. Use the same trick on the small tree
to the right after blowing up the rock in front of it to find our
15th star! [SS] We're halfway done with the stars now! Take the
south path to continue, and you should find a rock blocking your
path north. Blow it up and take out the enemies in the area to get
another star! [SS] Now, we want to head down over the bridge, and
shot the crystal from this area. In 2D, we can yet again pass by a
smaller tree. Circle around and blow up the rock directly behind the
lit fire. Head down and cut a path through the grass to the lower
section. You can blow up the rock, but you NEED to cut down the
grass. Pass anther tiny tree, cutting any grass standing in your
way. Shoot an arrow through the fire both up, and one left. The up
one will burn the tree, and the left one will light another fire.
Shoot up through the new fire to light another fire, and then shoot
the crystal to revert to 3D. Head back the way you came, and both
torches should be lit where there was once a statue. Now it's gone
because the torches are lit, and we can go underground again.
Push the two fire pillars onto their pressure plates to open the
door, then get ready for a monster room. Two wizards, and 4
skeletons, plus spikes that hinder mobility. Use bombs to take out
the skeletons easily, then slash the wizards with your sword. For
some reason, arrows do nothing to these guys. Anyways, defeating
them gives you a chest with the other half of the amulet. Now
before we leave, blow up the wall to uncover a secret star. [SS]
Now that we have this half of the amulet, the stone to are left is
now active. Switch to 2D again and fire an arrow north through the
fire below. This will light one of the torches need the beginning.
Now, we need to switch back to 3D, go back to where the lake is
with the crystal and the two fire, and shoot the crystal again to
go back into 2D. Cross back into the area with the newly lit fire,
and fire left to start another fire, then shot down from the new
fire. More switching dimensions as we shoot this crystal to revert
to 2D, pass over all the tiny trees, backtrack back to the pond to
hit that crystal for 3D, then head to the crystal we need the amulet
for, and revert to 2D. This game sure has a lot of padding, huh?
Anyways, now we should be able to reach a new crystal. Hit it to
again change to 3D, and cross over the stone block that was blocking
us in 2D to the northwest. Here we find the Kaeris card. [SC] Head
back to the crystal and head south over that stone to leave the
Sacred Grove. If you followed my guide, you now have both pieces of
the amulet and you'll have to go talk to Sid. If you went to the
Sacred Grove first, you'll have to talk Sid anyways, and he'll tell
you where to find the second piece of the amulet. Read higher up for
the guide of that area.
BLACK CITADEL [E8]
Now we need to head to the tower. Take the same route as if we were
heading to where the second amulet piece was, but instead of
heading up over the bridge, keep going right. Cross the bridge and
we'll find the main villain. In this boss fight, you can't win, so
just go all out until you die. After the cut scene, use your new
found skill to defeat Zephyros for now. After the battle head back
to Aogai Village and talk to Sid to receive the airship. Head out
the front of the village to find your airship and get ready for...
BACKTRACKAPALOOZA!!! [E9]
Coming soon... Sorry.
ENDGAME [E10]
Take the airship back to where the tower is, and head north from
there to find the Mana Tree where we really fight...
BOSS BATTLE: Zephyros
The boss starts with just one attack. It will slam it's hands down
and then breathes fire in between its hands. Start running right and
as it begins to track you, run left. Zephyros will continue turning
to the right then slam its hands, giving you a chance to slam at
the gems on its hand. Keep doing this until the gem shatters, then
do the opposite to destroy the gem on Zephyros' right hand. Now
the boss will lean forward and breathe fire while spinning. It will
do one full circle before it stops. Run along with the fire and
you'll be safe. After it stops, hit the gem on Zephyros' chest once,
then start running around the ring again to smack the orb that
shots from its back. After a couple of attacks, Zephyros will lose
his armor and start firing fireballs. Just keep running to dodge the
triple fireballs the boss shots, and when he fires the blue ball,
face the center and hit the ball back. It will track to Zephyros as
long as you're facing the center when you hit the ball. After a
couple hits, Zephyros will go down and you deserve congratulations
for beating Evoland!
