- When you see x/y for damage (and range), one is a melee attack, the other is
missile. The default attack method is usually listed first.
- When you see x+y for damage, x is the physical damage, y is the fire damage.
- Forged blades give +50 physical damage.
- Fire arrows give +15 fire damage.
- In single player, easy AI does 25% damage, hard does 120%.

Notes:
- 'Slash' is most infantry and cavalry non-trample
- 'Pierce' is archers
- 'Crush' is cavalry (and large unit) trample damage
- 'Hero (Light)' is Legolas, Faramir
- 'Hero (Normal)' is Gandalf, Aragorn, Theoden, Eomer, Eowyn, Merry, Pippin,
Sam, Frodo
- 'Hero (Tough)' is Bormir, Gimli
- 'Hero (Mounted)' is Theoden, Eomer, and Eowyn when mounted. (Not Gandalf
or Faramir, when mounted, though)
- Magic attacks normally ignore armor. Trolls take triple damage from magic.
- Most units take full damage from hero attacks, or half damage with heavy
armor. Trolls and archers take extra damage.
- Units that are resistant to arrows (i.e. siege weapons, ents) are
usually resistant to hero ranged damage.
- Ents take 500% damage from peasant axes.
- Oathbreakers take 15x magic damage, normal hero damage, and are immune
to anything else.
- Balrogs are take normal magic damage, reduced hero and siege damage,
and are immune to anything else.
- There are several other classes of damage not mentioned for brevity's sake.
Uruks have a separate damage class that basically mimics Slash damage.
There is also a Structural class that covers Ent rocks and Grond.
Observations:
- Heavy armor gives tremendous protection to infantry against cavalry charges,
and complete protection from fire. It offers no protection from magic and
siege weapons, however. (Exception: Cavalry get extra siege protection.)
- Drafted peasants become MORE vulnerable to fire.
