Lasria, U.S.S.R. - 1987 Salvage Operation.
(A submarine emerges in the middle of the ocean during a storm. A boat pulls
up to it and a man boards. He walks up to a large hole in the boat and
shines his flashlight into it. A monstrous roar is heard
and the man's face flashes in fear.)

|---Chapter 1: Prologue---[PL13]|

Laria - 20 Years later. Vozro Golag.
(The camera moves up a cliff and you see a building, then the camera snaps
and moves through an archway, up some stairs and to a man speaking
a man speaking Russian over a radio. As he goes to turn around Hayden
snaps his neck. Hayden kneels down.)
Hayden: I can't do this again.
A.D.: Just stay focused. Use your training.
Hayden: I thought I could but- (interrupted by A.D.)
A.D.: You've passed the point of no return Hayden. You're already inside
the compound, decision's made.
Hayden: Are you sure this thing isn't air-born?
A.D.: It's not, but even if it is your booster is good for another
six hours. Now get with it, plant your charges then infiltrate the
building.
(Radio static and Hayden standing up. Gameplay starts)

(Hayden kicks open the door and looks around the room, pistol raised.
He lowers the pistol and approaches the infected agent.)
Hayden: Hello Viktor.
Viktor: Uh. Thank god you're here. Somehow he knows I sent that message.
Hayden: I just need to know where Mezner is.
Viktor: The Lasrian military is working for him now and they've got a
chopper coming in. (Viktor coughs) But listen to me he is trying
to get inside the vault, if that happens- (Hayden shoots Viktor
in the forehead cutting him off and Hayden reloads...
Unnecessarily).
(Radio Static)
Hayden: It's done.
A.D.: Good, it was to dangerous to extract him, and we can't risk
bringing the infection back here.
Hayden: My head is killing me.
A.D.: You better pull it together. If Mezner gets that infectious
material out of Lasria it'll spread like the plague.
Hayden: I just wanna get this over with.
(Hayden throws some C4 on Viktor's body)
A.D.: So find Mezner. He's the lynch pin, put a bullet through
his head.
(Hayden pats Viktor on the shoulder and walks toward the camera and
gameplay starts again.)
------
(Helicopter goes down and Hayden turns around and aims his pistol at
Nemesis.)
Hayden: What the hell...
(Hayden lowers his gun and Nemesis throws his blade at Hayden, who ducks
under it. He starts shooting Nemesis with his handgun, which has no
effect.)
Hayden: Let's see how you like this (Hayden says as he picks up an RPG and
fires it. Nemesis reflects it at Hayden, who runs back and jumps
off the cliff and falls onto the camera. The screen goes black.)
(Hayden wakes up and pulls off his mask, coughing up blood. Mezner shines
a bright light into Hayden's eyes off-camera.)
Mezner: What did they tell you? What did they tell you, Hayden?
Hayden: They said that you had gone insane.
Mezner: Ahhh, but they said the same of you, didn't they? Unstable,
psychotic, unfit for duty and yet they still sent you. In spite of
the fact that you are so... broken.
(Hayden reaches for his handgun but Nemesis stabs his blade through
Hayden's right shoulder.)
Mezner: But I can fix you. Do it!
Hayden: Wait! Wait! (Hayden screams as Nemesis pulls his blade out of his
shoulder. You can hear his heartbeat and Hayden grunting.)
Mezner: You know of the lotus? Prized as a rare beauty. It blooms amidst
filth and decay. Of course you die in the process. But I think you, of all
people, deserve it.
Hayden: Maybe I do.
(Hayden hits the detonator for the C4 and it cuts to the game's logo.)

|---Chapter 2: Exposure---[ES23]|

(The camera moves down to show Hayden holding his arm and grunting.
He stands up and looks at the building he just destroyed, then
gameplay starts.)

(Hayden walks through a door and spots a radio, moves toward it,
and uses it.)
Hayden: Marlow. (He coughs) Marlow one. Oh s***.
(Radio Static)
Marlow: Go ahead; we have you on the emergency channel.
Hayden: I've been infected, the shot you gave me, it's not working!
Marlow: Calm down. Is Mezner dead?
Hayden: Uh, maybe. I detonated the charges. Are you listening to me,
the booster didn't work! I need evac!
Marlow: I'm putting a hazmat team together right now. I want
you to carry on, rendezvous with our sleeper agent Yargo Mensik,
he's got an observation post on top of the Lasrian Port Authority.
He'll have more boosters for the infection. Use them; it'll hold it
off until we can get you out of there. Just follow the coastline north.
Hayden: I've lost all my gear.
Marlow: Improvise, you were always good at that.
(Lasrian soldier walks in but doesn't see Hayden and shuts off the radio.
Hayden grabs his neck from behind and the Lasrian soldier elbows him,
throws him toward the table, and starts to choke him with his
assault rifle.)
Lasrian Soldier: (In English) A pig.... A crippled pig...
(Hayden's arm glows and the glaive appears as he slices the
Lasrian Soldiers neck. Another Lasrian Soldier runs up.)
Lasrian Soldier: I've found him!
(Hayden throws the glaive at his neck and decapitates him. He looks at the
glaive sitting in his hand and gameplay starts.)

|---Chapter 3: Baggage Claim---[BC87]|

(Camera moves around the room and then shows Yargo typing on his computer.
Hayden walks in with his pistol raised.)
Yargo: Lower your weapon, sunshine. ***
Hayden: Yargo. You've got something for me?
Yargo: I do. I have your updated orders from the A.D. I have also arranged
for you to acquire weapons and explosives. (Yargo says as he throws Hayden
the booster.)
Hayden: No thanks.
Yargo: You don't want to take it? But you don't have a choice. This will
slow your infection, it will buy you time.
Hayden: Show me what you've got.
(Yargo flips open a folder.)
Yargo: Your harbor explosion has released the infected Mezner had captured.
We believe Mezner has planned to collect them, bring them into the open
so his Lasrian thugs could capture them. He had Viktor Sudek repair an old
Soviet Union ULF transmitter. These transmitters were used in the 80's
to draw in the infected. Like moths to a flame.
Hayden: Nadia...
Yargo: Are you paying attention?! This transmitter is hidden in an
old bunker inside the Lasrian catacombs. You will enter via
church; you are to disrupt Mezner's operation by destroying
the transmitter. Take the Sat phone.
Hayden: How am I supposed to destroy the transmitter?
Yargo: Take this to the underground (Yargo hands a badge with a red star
on it to Hayden), they'll give you the explosives you need and guns too,
without the governors on them (Yargo is referring to the fail-safe on the
military weapons that make them explode if an infected person is holding
it). If the price is right. Even as the world drowns, the rats will swim.
I hope you won't find the sewers unpleasant.
(Gameplay Starts.)

|---Chapter 4: Moths to the Flame---[MT01]|

(The scene starts as the screen flashes an orange-ish color and Hayden
holds his head in pain.)
Hayden: Yargo, can you hear me? Some kind of shockwave just hit me.
Yargo: That's the transmitter you are after. Mezner's activated it. It is
sending out ultra low frequencies. We used these to communicate with
submerged vessels during the Cold War.
Hayden: The transmitter wasn't built to call the infected?
Yargo: No, but somehow the infected can hear these pulses, I guess
that means you too. These transmissions are stronger than the ones
we used in '87, Mezner will draw in the old ones.
Hayden: Well, he's blocked off the road, set up bottlenecks.
Yargo: His troops are waiting for you sunshine. They've set up ambushes
to kill the infected. Make sure you find the black market entrance,
look for lotus.
(Gameplay Starts)
------
(Infected jumps at Hayden from behind and throws him out of an attic.
He wakes up and looks around, then gameplay starts.)
------
(The camera starts to move forward through and archway towards a Jackal.
It moves in front of the Jackal where it shows him walking forward for
a few seconds, and then the Colossus jumps over the wall and
proceeds in destroying the Jackal. The Colossus then runs into the church.
Gameplay Starts.)
------
(Hayden steps through the entrance to the church and steps back when he
hears the Colossus' roar. The Colossus then jumps through the ceiling.)
Hayden: Alright big guy, let's see what you got!
(Gameplay Starts)
------
(The Colossus falls and Hayden walks toward it. Hayden gains
the shield ability. Gameplay starts.)
------
(Hayden walks through the door and seals it behind him. Hayden runs toward
the transmitter, then plants C4 on it. *Gun cocking noise*)
Nadia: This is exactly how I how I pictured it. How'd we meet again.
Hayden: Hello, Nadia.
Nadia: You turned away like that, and I'd have my gun just like this.
Double tap to the back of the head, just like you did to them.
Hayden: Listen to me! They're looking for you, you can still
disappear, I won't say a thing. All they want is Mezner,
the old man has lost it.
Nadia: Well, that's what they told you, and this assignment
is perfect for you. You'd already know about losing it, right?
Hayden: I guess I would.
Nadia: I want to hear you say it, you didn't have any orders,
you acted alone.
Hayden: I thought, I knew-- They needed to die, I knew they were sick.
Nadia: For Christ’s sake Hayden, they weren't sick.
Hayden: No, I was. I am. (Hayden walks toward Nadia and she backs off)
So why don't you do it?
Nadia: Because we're here for justice, not retribution.
Hayden: So, you're helping Mezner smuggle bio-weapons, for justice?!
Nadia: You catch on quick. Say hello to your friends for me.
(The infected start banging on the door while Nadia walks away, and the
camera moves to the C4 then the infected break through the door. Gameplay
starts.)

|---Chapter 5: The Shipment---[TS98]|

(Hayden leans up against the wall and contacts the A.D. on his radio.)
A.D.: Go ahead.
Hayden: I swear my head is coming apart.
A.D.: Double the suppressant dosage.
Hayden: The transmitter is down but Mezner is still out there. He's got
military cooperation in a big way, prototype hardware.
A.D.: Did you make any contact with his defectors? Was Nadia there?
Hayden: No. No, sir. I think I hear some Kamovs overhead.
A.D.: He's still hell bent on exporting the infection. If he hopes
to make profit he'll likely have sample anti-bodies.
Hayden: Ok, where are the choppers headed?
A.D.: An unregistered handy sized freighter docked nearby. Should be
5 miles southeast of your position. Secure a sample of the shipment and
destroy the rest.
(Hayden ends the radio call. Gameplay starts.)

(Hayden jumps onto a container a helicopter is carrying under it and jumps
off onto the freighter. Gameplay starts.)
------
(Hayden walks through a large doorway and stares at a very
large 'containment vault' *Basically a very large cage*. He walks toward
it and looks through the window on it. He then turns the valve
and opens the door, and the Stalker *Who was invisible* jumps
right past him, and Hayden sees it as it runs and puts a hole in the ship,
puts a hole in the ship, causing it to start flooding.
He then receives a call on his radio from Yargo.)
Hayden: Not now Yargo!
(Gameplay starts.)

(Hayden Jumps off the ship and climbs back onto land. Then he calls
Yargo on his radio.)
Hayden: Yargo, what's going on?
Yargo: They are breaking in, they found me!
Hayden: Just hang on, I'm on my way!
Yargo: Don't be stupid, it was only a matter of time.
(Radio transmission ends.)
Hayden: S***.
(Gameplay starts)

|---Chapter 6: The Bait---[TB18]|

(The camera snaps to the ceiling and a heavy trooper falls through
the glass, lands on the ground and shoots a rocket. Gameplay starts.)
------
(The camera moves around Yargo's destroyed office, then moves behind
Hayden and shows him walking forward holding his arm. Mezner talks
to him in his head.)
Mezner: I am in your head. Listen.
(The screen flashes white and Hayden pulls out the booster,
looks at it, but then puts it away.)
Hayden: Not yet.
(Hayden walks forward toward the destroyed computers. He puts
down his radio next to Yargo's as it starts ringing.)
Hayden: They took Yargo.
A.D.: (There is a lot of background noise from the helicopter and
the A.D. is yelling over it) Stand down. Your part in this is over!
I'm on my way to Lasria now, I'll be running the operation from there.
Hayden: I can't just leave him there, I know where he is!
A.D.: Out of the question, he's probably infected already. Look,
we're only a few hours out. Your orderes are to hold position
until I arrive.
Hayden: S***!
(Hayden hangs up. Screen flashes white. It changes to Nadia talking with
Yargo.)
Nadia: Order of the red star, huh? So you already know how
this sort of thing works.
Yargo: I told you, I'm just and old, retired communications officer.
I don't know how to get into this 'Vault'. It's nothing more than
a tourist attraction for me. I just watch it on the monitors.
Nadia: Don't play games, I know who you are. You are Yargo Mensik,
born and raised here in Lasria, a Colonel in the GRU. It was you
who led the containment teams in '87, you're the only one left that
can open that vault. Your daughter, she was a nurse right? She would have
treated the first ones who got sick, before anyone knew what was
going on.
Yargo: Moscow knew it was serious very early on. I could have warned her.
Nadia: But you had your orders.
Yargo: Nothing I can do will bring her back. But I'll be damned
if I'm going to let it happen again. Your Mezner's a fool,
anyone who thinks they can control this nightmare-- (Nadia cuts him
off.)
Nadia: See, that's that it's about. That's why he needs you to
open the Vault, to control this. So I'm going to ask you one more time.
And then, I'm going to start hurting you. (Nadia puts her thumb by
Yargo's eye.)
Yargo: I'll never be a part of this!
Nadia: Oh, never say never. Old man.
(Camera cuts out, and you hear Yargo yell. It goes back to Hayden.
Gameplay starts.)

|---Chapter 7: Industrial Evolution---[IE39]|
|___________________________________________|
(Hayden walks slowly on the catwalk and looks behind him.
He continues walking until he sees Yargo.)
Hayden: Yargo! You alright?
(Hayden then leans over the railing and looks down.
Hayden: Yargo?!
(The stalker goes out of shift right behind Yargo, hand
on his neck and yells as Hayden takes out the Glaive.)
Yargo: This... This one is very old.
(Hayden starts walking slowly to the side and the Stalker
jumps at him, knocking him off that catwalk. Hayden wakes up in
the water below, the camera then switches to the Stalkers eyes and shows
him looking at Hayden. He jumps at Hayden, knocking him off his feet.
He gets up. Gameplay Begins.)
------
(Hayden takes down the Stalker and... Pats it on the back. He gets off it
and starts to walk away when he gets hit by an invisable shockwave. He
obtains Shift ability. Gameplay starts.)
------
(The camera is on Yargo. Hayden walks over quickly.)
Hayden: Can you walk? (Hayden says as he puts Yargo's arm over his neck.)
Yargo: I've lost my pipe.
(They walk away and the camera switches to somewhere above. Hayden starts
holding his head.)
Mezner: Listen.
(Hayden takes out the booster.)
Yargo: Wait! This injection. I need to tell you.
(There is a noise and Hayden puts his arm up signaling Yargo to stop.
Nemesis walks out of the shadows.)
Yargo: No, run!
Hayden: I've been waiting for this. (Hayden has his arm raised
and glaive out. He walks forward and throws his glaive,
which Nemesis deflects with its blade. Hayden then tries to punch
Nemesis, but it blocks it with its hand.)
Mezner: That's enough.
Hayden: If it's the last thing I do...
Mezner: Are you so sure? I think now is the time to show you. I
think you've changed enough, to understand. (Mezner bends down next
to Hayden's face.) Here is my throat begging to be cut!
(Nemesis starts walking forward but Mezner puts his hand up
signaling for it to stop moving. Hayden swings the glaive
up to Mezner's neck but abruptly stops, then is repelled back
onto the ground.)
Mezner: Yes! Now you will open your mind!
(Hayden sticks the booster... Right in his chest and passes
out, presumably dead.)
Mezner: Ah, this is why you are here. (He pulls the booster
out of Hayden's chest.) This. You and I are brothers in a sense,
birthed for the same purpose, bound by the same strings. You should know.
I had the same injections, the same psychosis. They burned us,
waiting for the day this would happen. What did you do, Yargo? Such...
A waste. (He throws the booster onto the ground.) You could
have been so much.
------
(Hayden wakes up with a bright light in his eyes.)
Yargo: Hayden! Hayden?!
(The screen fades to black and it shows Hayden on an operating table. He
sits up.)
Hayden: What happened?
Yargo: They left you for dead. I laced your booster with enferon.
But I think I flushed it out.
Hayden: You poisoned me?!
Yargo: I tried to warn you, no one has the cure for this and the
state you are in. But I think it's exactly what the A.D. wanted!
I spiked the booster shot because I figured you'd turn out like Mezner.
He had the same shots, the same infection.
(Hayden gets off the table.)
Hayden: Yeah, we're two peas in a pod.
(Hayden looks down at his handgun and goes to grab it.)
Yargo: No, it's different for you. You have changed, you are-- (Hey gets
cut off by the building shaking.) It's out there...
Hayden: What? What is? Mezners armored thing? Let it come,
I can't stop it.
Yargo: But you can! I've been monitoring this place. Remember that
suit? I think this is where he got his. You are in Vozro.
(Building shakes again.) He is opening the cages.
(Building shakes repeatedly, Hayden grabs his pistol.)
(Hayden Grabs Yargo's arm and pulls him toward a vent, pulling
the grating off.)
Hayden: I'll take care of it, where is the suit?
(Yargo bends down and moves into the vent.)
Yargo: In the sub-basements. But it's well guarded, automatic defenses.
I'll have to open the airlocks from the security station.
Hayden: Ok, don't head there until I've drawn them off.
(Hayden puts the grate back on. Gameplay starts.)

|---Chapter 8: Unnatural History---[UH47]|
|________________________________________|
(The cutscene starts with Hayden running down a hallway and
looking through all the windows on the doors. When he finds
the one with the suit he opens it slowly and enters the room, pistol
raised. He looks to the right when he hears someone walking
around and closes the door behind him, he shoots the lock. He
looks behind him and sees Nadia walk up to the windows.)
Hayden: Get out of here!
Nadia: You should have cut and run when you had the chance. You think
they'll just let you walk off after this, that you'll just go free?
Hayden: No, but I thought maybe I could give you that chance.
Nadia: You don't understand how deep I'm into this, there's no going back.
Hayden: I don't want to do this! Mezner isn't in this for money, a lot of
people are gonna die!
Nadia: Since when did you care about anybody but yourself?
Hayden: I don't know. I just know, my whole life I never seem
to do the right thing.
Nadia: You can't stop this, even if you think it's the right thing to do.
I'm going to take Yargo now, and when that Vault opens, none of
this- none of this will matter.
Hayden: Look at me.
Nadia: Goodbye.
(Nadia walks away from the window. Then the screen flashes white and the
camera is moving down the hallway. The door suddenly flies off and Hayden
walks out in his nice new armor. Gameplay starts.)

|---Chapter 9: Threshold Guardian---[TG58]|
|_________________________________________|
(Hayden starts walking out into the middle of a bridge, stops and looks
to the side when he hears a helicopter which drops down a Heavy Trooper.
He fires a rocket at the bridge, which blows it up and Hayden falls down.
Gameplay starts.)
------
(The camera shows Nemesis walk up on a raised platform as
it watches Hayden walk below. The camera switches to Hayden
and Nemesis jumps down. Nemesis looks around but doesn't see
Hayden.)
Hayden: Over here! (He says as he jumps out from behind and hits Nemesis
with the glaive twice. Nemesis walks forward. Gameplay starts.)
------
(Hayden knocks Nemesis off its feet with the glaive. Nemesis'
helmet falls off and the camera rotates around to behind Hayden.
He runs towards Nemesis and holds it in his arms,
you get a clear view of the face revealing that it is Nadia.)
Hayden: Nadia... This wasn't supposed to happen...
Nadia: I'm sorry, I did this to you.
Hayden: No, Mezner was right. I deserve this.
Nadia: This thing... It's different for you. You were lost before.
Hayden: I know.
Nadia: Mezner's down there, in the Vault. He's going to call out to
them. The vault. It'll broadcast across the world. You have to stop it.
Hayden: The Agency is here, I can't get in the way.
Nadia: I know... You'll do the right thing this time.
(Nadia dies. Gameplay starts.)

|---Chapter 10: The Dark Sector---[DS91]|

(The camera shows Hayden watching the helicopter land. The A.D.
gets off.)
A.D.: You were ordered to stand down, soldier!
Hayden: It's about time you guys got here! Mezner's inside, he's powering
up the Vault for something big.
A.D.: It's all right, Mezner's made a deal.
Hayden: A deal?!
A.D.: I know it's hard for you to accept, but these situations,
things change. We always play the odds. This is over for you.
Don't worry, I'm keeping my end of the bargain.
I'm sending you home, you're done. Take the chopper
back to medical for decontamination.
Hayden: Wait, you're just gonna let me go?!
A.D.: Listen, you're running out of time. (He throws a booster at
Haydens feet.) Here, one for the road.
Hayden: Right, the same ones you gave Mezner.
A.D.: Yes, the same ones. Don't give me that look, you of all people.
You think you can judge me? This thing, this weapon, it changes
everything. And it's my duty to make sure we control it.
At any cost. So we play our parts, we make our sacrifices.
In this business we're all a nudge away from being another
acceptable loss.
(Hayden stabs the booster in the A.D.'s neck.)
Hayden: I trusted you, I really thought you were giving me
a second chance! But I think it was you... I killed those people
because you pumped me full of this s***! I think you
screwed up my head when you set me up for this disease.
Funny thing is... I feel better than ever.
(He pushes the A.D. down and repels the surrounding soldiers by using
some sort of shockwave. Gameplay starts.)
------
(Hayden walks up to Yargo who is sitting against a wall. He reaches
his hand out to help him up.)
Yargo: He's charging it, the antenna.
(Hayden hands Yargo the key to the Vault, then starts walking away.)
Hayden: Get out of here, seal the door behind you. Make sure you the
throw away key this time!
Yargo: Thank you...
(Gameplay starts.)
------
(Hayden walks toward a huge submarine and inspects it. He spots a
U.S. flag on it and the ship's name, "USS Alaska".)
Hayden: It's one of ours...
Mezner: Of course it is.
(The screen flashes white and Hayden starts walking toward where
Mezner is. He sits atop a huge infected blob of a creature.)
Hayden: Holy mother of god.
Mezner: When this transmission goes out, it will be across
the entire earth. It will open those eyes that have been closed
for so long. Bring an end to this suffering.
Hayden: Wait! Wait! The A.D. is dead, I killed him myself! He's
paid for what he did to you, Mezner! Did to us.
There's no reason for this to go on!
Mezner: There is a chorus of drowning voices in my head. Calling
out, calling out for a savior!
Hayden: Well I think they're gonna' have a long wait. (Hayden prepares to
throw the glaive. Final boss battle starts.)
------
(Hayden climbs up to Mezner's dead body.)
Yargo: The transmission, it's still going!
Hayden: But he's dead!
Yargo: You can feel it building, do something!
(Hayden looks around, and throws the glaive at the electricity source
used in the fight. Mezner opens his eyes and Hayden's arm starts
hurting.)
Mezner: You are one of us, now---
(Hayden catches the glaive with his un-infected hand and sticks
it through Mezner's skull, in from the left and out the right temple.
The camera fades to black and shows Hayden walking as Yargo
narrates.)
Yargo: That was how it started. The irony of this disease. That in all
the others it made evil, but for him, it saved his soul.
(It shows Hayden walking out of the Vault. He catches the glaive from
behind. Credits roll.)
