01.) INTRODUCTION G0100
===============================================================================
Welcome to CSI: 3 Dimensions for Murder for the PC, an adventure/crime solving
game by Telltale Games released in 2006.
Be aware that this walkthrough contains many spoilers about events, endings
and other case related things. Scroll through it with care. I highly suggest
you search the document for known case evidence or conversations so that the
chances of glimpsing the end of case are not as high.
Any errors, suggestions or similar feedback - e-mail me. Enjoy!
===============================================================================
02.) BASICS G0200
===============================================================================
Controls:
You control the game with the mouse only. I highly suggest playing the
tutorial to get the hang of how to play as it is much easier to understand
than with text alone. Also consult the game manual (in the installed
directory) to help you with tools, lab equipment and other hints for how to
play the game. It also explains how to solve cases using the Evidence Trinity,
something I won't get into there as the solutions are presented already.
The game automatically saves when you go to a different location or quit the
game. You cannot get stuck in the game, or "die" like in older adventure
games. However, there might be a glitch in the current version you are using
(especially v1.0) which prevents you from finished the case. If this happens,
update the game or maybe restart the case and perform that action before it is
too late.
The current version v1.01 has the following fixes:
[[Fixes:
1) Fixed - Cannot finish Case 1 if you don't get the fingerprint from the
pedestal until after interrogating Ackerman.
2) Fixed - Can get stuck in evidence viewer if right click during animation
for last squirt of spray.
3) Fixed - Quitting to the Main Menu from a lab screen, the lab interface
appears over the screen on reload.
4) Fixed - Difficulty settings get reset to Expert when hit Start Over on a
"Normal" profile case.
5) Fixed - Greg is selectable in the interrogation room - can ask for hints.
6) Fixed - Tutorial - after finishing the lab, if you navigate away from the
locations, then you are stuck and cannot reactivate the location
tab.
7) Fixed - Generic and specific voice lines were overlapping for picture
comparisons at the A/V machine in Case 5.]]
Just one more note about controls: use the SPACE bar to skip conversations.
Very useful when replaying the game. ESCAPE skips video sequences, but not
the in-game ones though they are usually short anyway.
Rank:
Each case gives you a rank, depending on how well you handle the case, collect
evidence and how many hints asked from a fellow CSI.
Difficulty Settings:
The game has 3 different settings to play on (Normal=N, Advance=A, Expert=E).
They do not change your ranking but make it easier/harder to process evidence
and proceed in the game. It is up to you which one you feel most comfortable
in, normal may be a little too easy and straightforward.

PS2 Version:
````````````
After many, many months, Ubisoft released a port on the Playstation 2. It is
more or less the same game, with a few minor differences.
- Most noticeably, you can now walk around the crime scene yourself, rather
than clicking at the edge of the screen to move from one hotspot to another.
I actually wanted this for the PC version, and it does work quite well.
However, both modes work.
- There are a few more hotspots to check out, given that you can now walk
around freely. These do not add any evidence or insight into the case. They
add to some complexity of searching the crime scene, yet the local CSI will
just come up with a "good to be thorough" kind of advice. If you have not
played the PC game first then I suppose it makes it slightly longer to check
out everything.
- NO widescreen support...not that it's different to the PC game but seriously,
they should have added that.
- Controls are VERY different. The PS2 controller is more action-based, and you
have to click L1 for changing location or checking evidence. I prefer the
mouse, but it still works ok here.
- The PS2 version is a lot more darker. I think this is a bad mistake because
you often have trouble seeing things.
- Camera movements are added, thanks for 3D rooms. It allows the game to appear
more active when people talk to you, rather than a blank stare in one
direction.
- Save option. On the PC the game would save by itself when you move locations.
Now you save yourself from the option menu.
- The graphics are hard to compare. The PC screen is small and sharp, but has
plenty of room for neat icons. The TV screen is large and it may appear lower
res. Both are nice to look at if you crank up the gamma on the TV.
- There is a 6th case, although I have no covered this in the walkthrough yet.
To sum up, if you are playing the PS2 game you can still easily use this
walkthrough, just keep in mind that it is based on the PC version and one or
two things may be slightly off.
v1.11 One correct for the PS2 version. (27th of November 2007)
v1.12 Removed the link to the PS2 game, because one case is missing and also
there seem to be too many minor differences I get e-mailed about. If
you are using this guide for the PS2, then do not ask me about help
with the walkthrough please. (4th of December 2007)
YY.) REVIEW G0500
===============================================================================
CAREFUL! CONTAINS SPOILERS!
(Note this is for the PC version of the game. Things may have changed for the
PS2 version but I'm not going to rewrite the review for it.)
Gameplay: 8/10
I really like the evidence collecting, evidence analysis and interrogations.
The difficulty rating makes it at one side really easy to solve the case, and
the other side quite hard.
Unfortunately the biggest problem is the cases itself, and the glitches that
come with it.
Some rants about the five cases.
Case 1: Predictable case, nothing really bad and nothing really too exciting
about it. Ackerman is stupid nonetheless and with his last statement, could
have speed up the case by a lot. What is so embarrassing about gambling? Why
risk such a huge police hunt by not telling, is getting brought in for
questioning not embarrassing?!
Rating: 3/5
Case 2: How lame, just wait for the missing evidence which practically solves
the entire case instead one goes from person to person asking silly questions
that in the end, have nothing to do with the hard evidence.
Rating: 3/5
Case 3: Anybody could have guessed by the crime scene already, though it was
still interesting to work without a body for a change. Some evidence seems
misleading and in the end don't matter.
Rating: 4/5
Case 4: Extremely bad writing. For one Brass threw out any suspicion on the
lady that called 911 simply because she had no pesticide on her, but all the
other campsite evidence did fit. This also means a lot of evidence in the
inventory is pointless for the case. It seems like we should be given the
chance to talk to this lady and rule out evidence, rather than a 10 second
"not guilty" reply from Brass. Then the case is also very weak, the evidence
points to many people, and the game makes it seem that some fingerprints are
more important than others, which is not a fact. But I like the ending and
the DA will have a hard time in court, not even Brass' lame wit can help
there.
Rating: 2/5
Case 5: The great finale. And it really is. Grissom joins you, and you also
get to work with Catherine a little. The case is great, it dips a little
towards the end but the entire "get characters from previous cases involved"
makes it special. Like an epilogue to the storylines, you get to hear more
about what happened to them after the case was finished. Not only is the case
interesting but it keeps you guessing for a long time about who really did it.
Too bad nobody wanted to rat our the real killer, I mean why not instead of
having the police think you did it, there is enough evidence to keep you
locked up.
Rating: 5/5
Graphics: 7/10
I very much like the locations, they are detailed and look realistic, and
don't let you wander into unimportant areas by locking on angles. It is also
much much better than those still images adventure games use, Myst comes to
mind.
It would have been nice if we could roam through the apartments though,
perhaps on a higher difficulty level that makes is harder to know where to
look.
The main down side of the graphics are the facial features. They very much
lack realism. If one thing should be improved then it is this.
Sound: 8/10
Nice music. They also used a high quality voice acting group, but
unfortunately not all cast members are present. Whereas I didn't even spot
Catherine's dubbing at first, Sara is so far off and the person doing the
voice is nearly making a mockery of the character's speech. I find it rather
strange that the official game cannot get the original actors to records a
few voiceovers, especially since the show is still running and most of them
did do it after all. And then they use one actor for several parts, and the
boring part is that he even sounds the same each time. There are great voice
actors out there, Billy West for example, and they can make a wide variety of
voices, but this guy was the same all over again each time. Not fun.
Another downside is the lack of ambient sound out in the field. The desert
campsite has absolutely no bugs or birds and offices are apparently the
quietest place in the world. Anything would work here, anything but dead
silence.
Overall: 8/10
Recommended for adventure fans, and of course CSI fans. The cases are not of
high quality writing, however, and you will probably be disappointing in
solving them. Telltale Games did a good job and I hope they will still bring
out some more bug fixes. If the next CSI game is also coming out by them, we
shall all be happy.
