Guide Versions:
[1.00] - Guide Created, my first ever guide actually.
[1.01] - Minor grammar edits and spelling mistakes corrected., also minor
information edits were required. To be honest I can't see why I would need to
edit this guide ever again, but who knows? I might do in the future, so I'll
leave the versions open ended. Plus some aliement issues, sentences starting in
the middle of the page etc.
Contents as follows:
[xx01xx] What is this guide for?
[xx02xx] How to find and edit the IDB files.
[xx03xx] GDI IDB File Edits.
[xx04xx] NOD IDB File Edits.
[xx05xx] Scrin IDB File Edits.
[xx06xx] The Broken Files.
[xx07xx] FAQs and other stuff.
[xx08xx] Credits and etc.
Well to start with, IDB stands for Intelligence Database. This FAQ is
JUST for editing the IDB files and not much else, there are other
guides for in game help or missions objectives and such already.
This FAQ is primarily for the fixing of the one broken intel file
that exists (explained fully in section 06) but can also be used if
you need to install your game on a new computer, or indeed to cheat.
Though I would suggest you play through the game yourself at least once
though and at least try to unlock them, I mean why else did you buy the
game? Most of the intel files are from bonus missions objectives.
[xx02xx] How to find and edit the IDB files.
Ok so first of all I am going to make this as simple as possible, as
I myself am not very computer literate (and I'm not old!).
I am doing this via Windows Vista, though I am led to believe it is
much the same for Windows XP. Click the following:
Start. (Bottom Left corner of your screen).
Search.
For Files and Folders....
Put in the search bar 'IDB' (without the quote marks, obviously).
Then click the down arrow next to 'advanced search'.
Then click the box next to:
'Include non-indexed, hidden, and system files (might be slow)'
Now open the file named 'IDB'.
Now open each IDB file, (via the names listed below) which will open
in notepad, then in turn to copy and paste in the relevant information
into the correct folders.
Then file (up in the left corner of the window you just opened) and
then click save. That should just about do it :-)
For some unknown reason to everyone (aside from EA apparently)
even with a full Intel Database, this file is totally blank,
if you have any ideas then please email me.
My thought is that it was a file that was meant to be used but
never was, as even though there are only 4 files in game, when
you go to edit them, there are 5. This is proven by The Scrin
having only 1 both in game and in edits, same with GDI having
both 5 intel files as well as having 5 editable files.
There are several reported 'broken files' meaning that the ONLY way to get
them is to use the method in this guide. However there is only ONE truly
broken file, the GDI file '421_TripodCaptured = 1'. The other file that most
people *think* is missing is the Intel for the commando '311_Commando = 1'
which can be gotten by destroying one particular avatar, NOT just any avatar,
so while it is possible, it's just ridiculously hard.
The definition of a broken file in C&C3 is a file that does not appear in your
intel files even if you complete the required mission objective, NOT just
that you can't find them, some of them are hard to find though, agreed!
[xx07xx] FAQs and other stuff.
Q. I did what you said and I can only see N0D folders, what's going on?
A. You probably opened the IDB folder for Kane's Wrath, the C&C3 expansion
pack, I may do a separate guide for that at some point.
Q. I can't find the files on Linux/My Mac/Windows 95 etc. where are they?
A. How the hell should I know? Seriously though, I've never used any of them,
maybe try asking on the message boards, I don't know much about computers.
Q. Your Guide is amazing.
A. That's not a question, but thanks!
Q. How do I get in contact with you?
A. .....why, what for? If it's something about the guide then email me at
rich UNDRSCORE faq AT hot mail DOT co DOT uk, my email is written
like that so no annoying spam scanners can pick it up. Just edit it
accordingly and send me an email if you need to.
[xx08xx] Credits, thanks and etc.
Thanks to:
tcchip82, for his/her help (I never asked, and wasn't going to check!)
with the formatting of this guide, and the information on blank intel files.
My dear old Mother, for (hopefully) idiot proofing my guide for me,
basically be following my: 'How to edit the IDB files' section and getting it
to work, because if she can do it, anyone can!
Do NOT reproduce this guide anywhere without my permission, by
reading this guide you have joined the Brotherhood of Nod, congrats!
IN THE NAME OF KANE.
