01.) INTRODUCTION G0100
===============================================================================
Welcome to 'Bone: Out From Boneville' for the PC, a point & click adventure by
Telltale Games released in 2005.
This is the first game in the series of Bone adventures.
If you spot any errors or have suggestions please feel free to e-mail me about
it. Enjoy!
===============================================================================
02.) BASICS G0200
===============================================================================
First off, the game is very easy to solve. I highly suggest you try playing for
yourself and only check for puzzle solutions when you are really stuck, which
should be very few times. General adventure pointers include talking to
everybody, checking out everything and so on. You cannot die in this game. If
you are stumped you can also use the '?' to get a hint.
Controls:
`````````
"Bone" is controlled with the mouse. Move around on screen to find different
things to interact with. When there is something, the cursor will change to the
appropriate action, in other words you do not need to select one like in some
other adventure games.
The screen also has an '?' for the hints, and backpack for any inventory the
character may carry at this point.
Press ESC to get back to the main menu, where you can resume, save, load or
quit. Sometimes it is not possible to save, and loading may return you to the
beginning of that scene.
Settings:
`````````
Music Volume: Set the music volume.
Voice Volume: Set the voice volume.
Effects Volume: Set the effects volume.
Full Screen: Toggle between full screen and window mode.
Anti-Aliasing: Pick if your graphics card supports it.
Laptop Mode: ?
Tutorial: Extra hint messages during the game, mainly for the cursors.
Subtitles: Subtitles during the game, cutscenes, conversations, etc.
The game can be buggy but a few updates have been released since v1.0. If you
find your game has a fault just download the latest version, your purchase code
will allow you infinite updates. Still, because of this I advice you save often
as you might need to restart the game from a saved game slot.
System Requirements:
````````````````````
Windows 2000/XP
DirectX 8.1
140MB Free Drive Space
Newer 3D Accelerated Video Cards:
800 MHz P3 processor (or better)
Older 3D Accelerated Video Cards:
03.) WALKTHROUGH G0300
===============================================================================
Watch the introduction...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lost In The Desert
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have the tutorial on you will get plenty of help messages at this
point. When you gain control of Fone, touch the stone below Smiley to reveal a
map. talk to Smiley:
- I'm trying to get this thing out from under this rock.
- I'll tell you after I get it out.
- Just stand up, will ya?
After the scene, continue talking to Smiley:
- How about a tune, Smiley?
<Pick any song from the list.>
Talk to Phoney:
- Do you really hate Smiley's music so much?
Talk to Smiley:
- Can you play Old Gray Mare?
You will get a dollar. Take the dollar bill from the inventory backpack and
give it to Smiley.
Watch the scene.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Locust Chase
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You need to stay ahead of the Locusts. Move Fone left and right with the mouse
and jump over obstacles with the left mouse button. If you hit any rocks on the
way the locusts will catch up. After around two minutes the chase ends.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dragon's Stair
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the scene, walk south to find a cigar stub. Go east and jump over the
gap. Pick up another cigar stub here. Go northwest and jump up the steps until
you find another cigar butt. From here walk north along the edge and slide down
at the end. Grab a cigar stub and follow the wall on the west side. Continue on
this path to find the last cigar butt. Exit the cave east and north.
Jump over the pillars to reach the river.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fone Meets Ted
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Get over to the river and talk to the green bug.
- Have you seen my cousins around?
- Who's this Thorn? He's not another bug is he?
- How am I supposed to find this Thorn?
- Uhh...I don't see a way to cross this river.
- Uhhh...Okay, I guess.
Ted will start crossing the river.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ted Crosses The River
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This mini-game requires crossing the stones. Ted's movements are small step -
small step - large gap.
The directions are:
1. East South East
2. North North East
3. South East North
4. South South South
5. West East East
6. East North North
7. North South East
8. South East North
9. North East South
10. East
And Ted is across.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fone Meets Big Brother
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talk to Big Brother if you want. When done, walk up the path on the northeast
and pick up the cigar stub.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stupid, Stupid Rat Creatures
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the scene, pick the purple rat and say:
- I wouldn't let him call you fat. You don't look fat to me.
When the monsters argue and face each other, walk backwards step by step.
Eventually you will get out of this mess. If you fail, you can restart the
conversation choices are slightly different.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fone Meets The Dragon
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talk to the dragon if you wish, then go southeast along the stone path.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fone And The Possums
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Speak to the three possums in front of their house:
- Do you know the way to the hot spring?
- Uh...Well Okay. What do you want ta play?
- Hide an' seek sounds like fun.
You have nine attempts to find the three possums. Every time you walk to a
spot they will say if you are cold, warm-ish or hot. If itis hot then there is
most likely one hiding in the nearby hiding spot. Spots include logs and
rocks.
After you have found all of them, talk to them again:
- Not now guys, you said you'd show me how to get to th' spring.
- Heh. Maybe another time.
Leave via the bush they mentioned on the left side which now has an area-exit
cursor.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fone Meets Thorn
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You will speak with Thorn as soon as you enter this area:
<Pick any option>
<Pick any option>
- Ted told me to find you! He said you know everything!
- Ted told me you could help us get back to Boneville?
- I've been asking around about them but no one's seen 'em.
- Hooray! Pretty soon I'll be back in Boneville!
- I don't belong here...
- Where can I find your gran'ma?
- Okay, I'm ready. Let's go.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Phoney Meets Big Brother
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You are now in control of Phoney. Start walking to the right of the screen
to hear the stomach grumbling. Use any option to reply, and continue doing so
until Phoney agrees to go look for some food. Further right, talk to Big
Brother:
- Where can I get some food?
- I want those apples! Get outta th' way!
- This is a waste of time.
Insult him, something like:
- You're not very bright are you?
Now quickly stand in front of the large rock behind you so that he runs into
it. Cross the river and pick up the apple on the ground. Then go north to the
next area.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Phoney Meets The Dragon
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can try to talk to the dragon here, but he will not have much to say to
you. Therefore move on to the next area as you did with Fone earlier.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Phoney And The Possums
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Speak to the three possums on the left side of the screen:
- Wait a minute, did you say you know Fone Bone?
- If I give you kids a dollar, will you tell me where Fone went?
- C'mon, just tell me where Fone Bone went.
- Oh, brother. Fine. Let's make it quick.
This time you will hide and tell the possums if they are cold, warm or hot.
Tell them cold if they are facing the wrong way, and warm if they are facing
towards the stone or at least somewhat. At first there will one which is
easy, then two at the same time. Simply make one find you and then concentrate
on the remaining possum. When done, walk left through the bush to the next
area.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Phoney Finds Ted
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another conversation-only scene:
- I'm lookin' for a guy named Fone Bone. You seen him?
- Take me to Fone Bone at once!
- Okay, fine. Let's get a move on.
- C'mon then, I ain't got all day!
You'll be going to the farm.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Phoney Meets Gran'ma
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
More conversation:
- Ya got any food around this place?
- You think I just walk around askin' for food for no reason?
- I don't hafta work for anything!
- Cut the chit-chat, Grams. You got any food or not?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fone Does Gran'ma's Tasks
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tell Phoney:
- I'll talk to ya later.
Then tell Gran'ma:
Thanks, ma'am! We're happy ta help!
Pick one of the chores you'd like to do, the order doesn't matter.
Water:
``````
When talking to Thorn, tell her:
- But I saw one! He had a goatee 'n' a cigaret 'n' big ol hairy ears!
Then take a corn cob from the barrel near the house. Try to use it on the
bucket at the well. It won't fit so talk to the well/dragon:
- Can you help me out?
- Can you breathe fire on this corn cob?
- Please just breathe fire on the corn cob.
Now plug the burnt cob into the hole of the bucket and use it to get water
from the well.
Wood:
`````
Take a rock from the left side of the house. Go to the right and attempt to
grab the ax stuck on the stump and Ted will appear:
- I need to split firewood, but this axe is stuck.
- Uh...sure, Ted.
Take the ax blade and place it on the log standing up. Throw the rock onto the
blade to cut the log in two.
Return to Grand'ma Ben and tell her:
- Finished with the wood!
- Here's your water, ma'am!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Phoney Gets Turnips
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Go through the area and back to the possums. Talk to them:
- Say, that's a nifty spade you guys got there...
- You kids wanna play a game or somethin'?
- How bout if I tell ya a story...
- It's a story about something really exciting...
Choose the first choice until they take a nap.
Grab the spade and return to the previous screen. Here, use it to dig up a
turnip on the left side.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Phoney Finds Some Apples
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Walk past the possums and the stone path to arrive at the apple tree. Talk to
big brother on the left and insult him. Then quickly run over to the tree and
click on the apples in the tree. You should be thrown up by Big Brother as he
charges into you.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dinnertime
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not much to do here but have a conversation with Gran'ma Ben and Thorne.
Eventually there will be a choice to say
- Yawn...
- Yes
to go to bed.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rat Chase
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pretty much the same as previous chase, only this time it is slightly longer
and the rats will sometimes dash forward so move Fone out of the way to avoid
getting caught. Jump over the obstacles with the left mouse button. This time
there are more smaller objects rather than a certain path. The rats will slowly
be reduced in numbers, so when the last one disappears you are home free.
Watch the ending of this chapter.
To be continued...
