Bomberman '93 is an overhead action game released in 1993 for the PC Engine.
As with all Bomberman games, you will have to go through plenty of stages
using bombs to kill enemies and collect items. The gameplay is simple, yet
things can get difficult in the later stages of the game. If you want to play
a simple, fun game to pass the time (you can always replay your game later by
saving or using passwords when you die), try this one out!

================
General Gameplay
================

In a typical level, you have control of Bomberman. You can move him around
and drop bombs by pressing the button. Initially you can only drop one bomb
at a time, and its blast range is only 1 tile in each of the 4 directions.
However, by collecting items as you progress through the game, you can
increase your bomb-using abilities. There will be plenty of blocks in the way
which you will have to destroy with bombs in order to proceed.

The objective in each level is to destroy all the enemies. When you
accomplish this, you will hear a chime, which states that the exit warp is
now usable. You will have to uncover the exit warp by blowing up blocks until
you find it. Also, in each level, there is an item (sometimes more) hidden in
one of the blocks which will be helpful to you. If you didn't find it before
killing all the enemies, the random block containing the item will begin to
flash. Some items will not be designated in such a fashion, so you will have
to clear all the blocks on your own to uncover them.

==============
Gameplay Modes
==============

Normal Game: This is the main mode of the game, which the walkthrough below
            will cover. It is the 1-player story mode, if you will. You
            start with 3 lives, and 2 continues.

Battle Game: You can play against up to 4 other players in a battle arena for
            a multiplayer challenge. The idea of this game is to be the last
            one standing in order to win. Gameplay will continue until a
            player earns the specified amount of wins for that matchup.

Com-Link: You can connect with another player to compete against each other
         in this mode.

============
Grated Tiles
============

Starting on Planet C, you will come across some grates on the ground. Those
tiles will have numerous smaller squares on it, and you will be unable to
place bombs on those tiles. You will also be unable to kick bombs across
these tiles if you have the Bomb Kick ability. However, bomb explosions from
adjacent spaces will damage enemies located on these grated tiles.

==========
Turnstiles
==========

In the later stages, you will notice a purple box with arrows on it,
surrounded by 1 to 4 red balls. These are called turnstiles, and by using it,
you can rotate around the central block to navigate the level. Take note of
the direction in which the arrows point, since that is the direction in which
the turnstile will move. Beware since turnstiles cannot move if a bomb or
other object is obstructing any of the red balls.

==============
Conveyor Belts
==============

In the final couple of planets, you will start to encounter conveyor belts.
They are thin, straight lines of colored bars, which move in a certain
direction. If you stand on them, you will move along with them; if you try to
move against the conveyor, your movement will be slower than normal.
Sometimes bombable blocks cover the belts, so you may have to clear the path
to make full use of these conveyors. You can even drop bombs onto the
conveyor belts and they will move down the line, too.

Boss: Digger
Points: 20000
Timer: 9:00
Strategy: Digger will send a line of blue fire ahead in front of him, which
         will destroy any bombs in its path. After the fire subsides, Digger
         will warp to another point in the room and repeat this. The boss
         stays still for several moments, so lay bombs to the side of it to
         cause damage (and avoid the fire). After a couple hits, Digger will
         split into two and attack you that way before recombining and
         warping again, so watch out. After hitting it 4 times, Digger will
         turn orange and attack by sending 2 rows of fire in opposite
         directions. It will take 5 hits total to beat this boss.

Boss: Petunia
Points: 20000
Timer: 9:00
Strategy: This plant boss will float around the area before stopping to drop
         flower enemies into the battlefield. You must destroy those flowers
         before the boss will drop some more (try to stay close to the boss
         and drop a bomb next to it when it stops to clear them fast). After
         you clear two waves of flowers, Petunia will land on the ground and
         will become vulnerable to attacks. The boss will now attack by
         dropping flowers and moving around the room, stopping periodically.
         When it stops, 4 spinning flowers will rotate around it as a
         barrier before being shot in the 4 diagonal directions away from
         the boss. The barrier will prevent bombs from passing through it,
         so you'll have to rely on lining up your bombs (if you have Bomb
         Kick or Remote Bomb, they will be great here). After you damage
         Petunia 4 times, the spinning flower barrier will be increase to 8
         flowers, making it even more difficult to avoid, as well as making
         it tougher to hit the boss. Nonetheless, one more blast at that
         point will win the battle.

Boss: Blastbat
Points: 30000
Timer: 9:00
Strategy: Blastbat will fly all around the room before swooping down to a
         random location and stopping. At that point, the giant bat will
         land and shoot a line of fireballs in the direction he's facing.
         The fire can destroy your bombs, so try and place your bombs to the
         side of the boss when attacking. After you get a couple blasts off,
         Blastbat will spit fire in 3 directions when landing. It will take
         5 hits total to defeat this boss.

Boss: El-Baal
Points: 30000
Timer: 9:00
Strategy: The boss El-Baal is comprised of a giant head which sits in the
         middle of the room. The head is stationary, but it will send
         numerous smaller hands to move around the area (bomb the hands to
         destroy them). Those smaller hands will move around, periodically
         stopping to shoot energy balls at you (they can remove your bombs),
         so try and destroy those quickly before they become overwhelming.
         On the actual boss, you will see a red jewel in one of three spots
         (bottom center, or either of the sides). That is the weakness, so
         make your way to where the jewel is and place a bomb in front of it
         to cause damage. After you damage it, the jewel will move to
         another spot on the head. During the fight, if you're not quick
         enough to attack, the jewel's location can change, so try and
         attack fast to actually damage El-Baal. After taking 4 hits (the
         boss will turn orange), the jewel will stay in the center for your
         final attack.

Boss: Cockle Twins
Points: 60000 (30000 each twin)
Timer: 9:00
Strategy: Here you fight the Cockle Twins, which are two giant crabs which
         move back and forth in their respective rows. They will stop every
         few moments to shoot a line of bubbles straight ahead; the bubbles
         will damage you and clear your bombs so be careful. Sometimes when
         stopping, the bosses will squat down to ground level, giving you a
         chance to attack with bombs from the side (where the bubbles won't
         hit). The bosses will send smaller fish enemies to attack, so be
         ready to clear them as they appear. Each twin will take 5 bomb
         blasts to defeat.

Boss: Grumpus
Points: 50000
Timer: 9:00
Strategy: Grumpus hovers above the area atop a spinning green disk. After
         moving in a set pattern for a few moments, the disk will start
         spinning rapidly and Grumpus will dash towards you before stopping.
         When the disk totally stops, it will be your time to attack. There
         is a red mark on the side of the disk; bomb that point to hurt the
         boss. After that, it will start moving around the room again, so
         follow the same pattern of attack. Every now and then, after
         stopping, several snow enemies will be dropped into the arena, and
         they take a few hits to kill. Concentrate on the boss though; 6
         hits will do it in this time.

Boss #1: Bomberman Karts
Points: 80000 points (20000 each)
Timer: 9:00
Strategy: For this fight, there will be 4 Bomberman clones driving around the
         arena in go-karts, dropping mines every so often on the ground. You
         can destroy the mines with your bombs, as well as attack the clones
         with bombs. Each driver will take 2 hits to destroy. Once you clear
         all 4 of them, step into the exit warp in the center of the room,
         and the second part of the fight will commence.

Boss #2: Black Bomberman (giant machine)
Points: 100000
Timer: 9:00
Strategy: The game's final battle takes place against Black Bomberman, the
         one who stole all the planet's power chips at the start of the
         game. This boss is in a giant machine which has a red mark in the
         front as its weakness. Starting off, the boss will move to one of 4
         positions around the room, facing inward, before disappearing
         offscreen. It will then return, moving across the same row you are
         in before moving up the last column and stopping. When it's moving,
         and especially when it stops, you can bomb the red mark to deal
         damage. After you hit it 2-3 times, it will stop at one side of the
         room and its fists will shoot straight out from the body. The boss
         will then move to another position and shoot 2 lines of fire, which
         will move through each row/column. 6 hits will destroy that large
         machine.

Boss #3: Black Bomberman
Points: 100000
Timer: 9:00
Strategy: For the last stand, Black Bomberman will come after you in his
         smaller ship. He will move around slowly, stopping to send energy
         balls in different directions to attack. At the far end of the
         room, he will fly across to the other end, dropping bombs all along
         the way. These bombs will then explode shortly thereafter (they
         have long range, so hide to avoid damage). If you have the Bomb
         Line ability, it will be easy to attack from a distance since Black
         Bomberman will land on the ground after his bombing attack. Once
         again, 6 hits will destroy this boss.

After the fight is over, grab the final power chip and step into the exit
warp. Planet Techo will be destroyed and Bomberman will restore power to the
galaxy. The credits will then roll; congratulations on completing the game of
Bomberman '93!

More Enemies
============

Throughout the course of the game, you will run into plenty of powerup items
and exit warps. However, BE CAREFUL where you place your bombs, since if you
attack either of these, a lot more enemies will flood the stage (Normal
Game). As such, keep this in mind to avoid having to fight more enemies than
you have to, unless you want to fight more, then by all means try this trick.
