About [BLABT]
===============
The point of this guide is to help people know when they get the
cars/mods/whatever. This guide won't cover tips on Single Player in
specific.
That guide is technically already available here on GameFAQs. I allow this
guide here on GameFAQs/GAMESPOT.
I won't really put my contact info on here either. The game doesn't really
need assistance. Though I suppose if the PM service works (I've been around
and haven't used the PM service ever), you can PM me if you need a question
asked.
The unlock list [BLTUL]
===============
Before I give the list, I want to fill in a few things.
1: The list will go as followed:
Manufacture Car
Unlocked: Rank 0
Type
Acceleration: 1/5
Speed: 2/5
Grip: 3/5
Difficulty: 4/5
Health: 5/8
Paint Job: Yes/No
2: The Type determines how the car will usually perform based on what the
game says. They are:
Very Drifty - Easy to Drift, difficult to keep grip on the road
Drifty - Slightly easy to drift, much more stable on grip
Balanced - Can drift OR grip based on how you use it
Grippy - Can keep gripped to the ground, but might be less drift able.
Very Grippy - Keeps gripped to the ground very well, but drifts might nearly
be impossible.
Off Road - Will do well on off-road as opposed to penalties.
The car performance may not always stay on the type depending on the
situation.
Sometimes the type can also be an indication on how well you can use the E-
Brake which on Grippy and Very Grippy makes E-Brake good for... breaking.
Drifty and Very Drifty though could mean the E-brake is good for making those
turns. Keep in mind that any of those can also mean it does better with
regular breaking.
3: All cars will use the number rating based on blocks filled in. a whole
number represents a full block fill in. A .5 number means its partially lit.
That being said, the blocks go as high as 5.
4: Health slots have a maximum of 8 bars.
5: Paint Job means if the car can have a user defined color or not.
6: If you see anything that has something in parenthesis at the end like
(Rat) or (Tuner), Rat as I've heard just means it can handle off-road a
little better.
All other just seems to determine more so how it will perform (Tuner meaning
its better performance than normal, Drift meaning it will drift, etc).

This is the only car that differs from the base version. If you want further
proof, when you do the final 1-on-1 against shannon, if you can get to a
straight, be next to Shannon's car and try to be at same speed. You'll
notice
immediately it accelerates faster. Also, you can compare the maximum speed
between that and the speed boost on the Astra Extreme are not the same.
Legend [BLLGD]
===============
When you legend, you basically advance yourself further. Legend is Rank 50
and then an option becomes available in the multiplayer menu (the one where
you can look at your showcase, mod unlocks, leaderboards, etc). However, the
draw back is you lose everything as in your cars you unlocked through
multiplayer, all challenges completed, all upgrades and color unlocks to your
cars, and most of all, your rank is down to 1 as if you restarted. You gain
a Legend vehicle.
These vehicles are not color changeable. The good thing about these vehicles
are these vehicles are usable at Rank 1 and they are fully upgraded. What
you don't lose is all special cars you gained from Single Player (Shannon's
cars, Rhymer's car, etc), but those cars have to be unlocked again at their
respective levels first before you can use them. Here is the list of what
cars you get:
Legend I - Legendary ACS1 Coupe (Class D)
Legend II - Legendary Camaro SS (Class C)
Legend III - Legendary Viper ACR (Class B)
Legend IV - Legendary Monaro (Class A)
Legend V - Legendary Challenger SRT8 (Class D)
Legend VI - Legendary TTS Coupe (Class C)
Legend VII - Legendary Nemesis (Class B)
Legend VIII - Legendary Astra Extreme (Class A) *
Legend IX - Legendary M3 (E92) (Class B)
Legend X - Legendary Mustang GT-R (Class A)
*Note - Refer to Car & Paint Job upgrade
You can use these Legend cars you gain in Single Player mode as well after
its unlocked, but from my observation, you don't get the Car Upgrades edge
with it.
But its hard to compare when all you have is an AI and courses that are bent
on just wanting you to finish by loss or win.
Car & Paint Job Upgrades [BLCPU]
===============
Car upgrades is simple and only in the Multiplayer mode and Paint Job
upgrades is also a multiplayer mode only thing. Paint Job upgrades is only
available to cars that aren't special types or locked. By locked, there are
a few cars for example the Megane Trophy that can't be color changed what so
ever so the only thing you will get on the color unlock section is the winner
(which is the same requirement to complete as if it had the Paint Job
unlocks).
Car upgrades are easy to obtain. All you have to do is participate in a race
and complete that race. You do not have to make top 3 or anything like that,
as long as you complete the race.
Paint jobs are more difficult to unlock. You have to not only finish the
race, but you must finish in FIRST PLACE.
The good thing is that the completion works on any mode. So you can race or
you can do Motor Mashes. Keep in mind though that the bonuses are separate
to each car. So Finishing 10 races in the Beetle (Off-Road) does not
automatically give you the completed races for the Camaro SS as well.
All upgrades may affect the performance of the car, but will not increase
the stats themselves in anyway with the exception of Health upgrades. So
when you have a car with full upgrades, its almost not that much different
from the base version. However, there is 1 exception to this. Shannon's
Astra Extreme and the Legendary Astra Extreme are NOT the same as the Astra
Extreme. Check the car stats for more info.
This is the upgrades and the explanation:
Completed Races
---------------
Fan Bonus
Unlocked: Finish 10 races
Benefit: You get a bonus to your fan count at the end of a race with that
car.
Health Upgrade
Unlocked: Finish 25 races
Benefit: That health slot count increases by 1 bar.
Speed Boost
Unlocked: Finish 50 races
Benefit: This increases the maximum speed of the car. This does not raise
the speed stat however.
Winner Races
---------------
Metallic
Unlocked: Finish 1st in 1 race
Pearlescent
Unlocked: Finish 1st in 10 races
Candy
Unlocked: Finish 1st in 25 races
Multiplayer Mods [BLMPM]
===============
The mods in multiplayer are different from the mods in Single Player. 1
prime example is in Single player, you can only equip 1 where as Multiplayer,
you can equip 3, but 1 from each category. There is no name for the
categories in Multiplayer, but I figure I'd like to call them:
(Slot 1) Physical Enhancement - Your car recieves some sort of physical boost
most likely through a requirement.
(Slot 2) Passive Enhancement - Usually any powerup that gets enhanced in some
way from the norm.
(Slot 3) Add-on Enhancement - Something that doesn't come from either of the
two above, but may or may not require a condition to be met.
Because of this, I am splitting these into the category they appear.
(Slot 1) Physical Enhancement
---------------
Stable Frame
Unlocked: Rank 3
"Take less damage from collisions and be immune to Battering Ram."
Yes, that also means you can hit a wall and take the damage from doing so a
bit easier.
Battering Ram
Unlocked: Rank 3
"Increases the force of your collisions and deals extra damage."
This can be mean yet weird when a small car can do it to a large car.
Showy Flourish
Unlocked: Rank 6
"Gain bonus Fans each time you damage an opponent with Power-ups."
So make your powerups count if you want more fans.
Titanium Armor
Unlocked: Rank 13
"Your vehicle only takes half a damage point from standard power-up attacks."
That also means 3 bolts will do less damage than ever before should the eagle
eye player land all 3 on you.
Iron Fist
Unlocked: Rank 20
"Your Shunt attacks deal more damage."
This would override the damage reduction from Titanium Armor.
Fun Note: This mod back in the beta increased the damage from all offensive
power ups which were the Shunt, Barge, Bolts, Shock, and Front Fire Mines.
Front Runner
Unlocked: Rank 26
"Receive a Nitro for every Lap you complete."
Just make sure you have a space for that powerup when you cross that line.
Though it is pointless in Mount Haruna.
Drifter
Unlocked: Rank 32
"Score Super Drifts to earn Nitro Power-ups."
Make sure you have a space for that powerup when you do this. You'll note
the screen will turn green as you are doing a Drift. You must do the drift
long enough for it to count as a "Super Drift" and you will know if you gain
the powerup or just by looking on the top right of your screen.
Jump The Gun
Unlocked: Rank 45
"Respawn faster and get a speed boost when Wrecked or Reset."
This can be good and bad because sometimes, the reset is wonky when you don't
want it. Otherwise, its great if you find yourself getting wrecked too
often.
(Slot 2) Passive Enhancement
---------------
Safety Net
Unlocked: Rank 3
"Any Power-up that hits you while Shielding repairs a small amount of
damage."
Great if you prefer shield alot and don't like straying off of your normal
power up choices.
Adaptive Shielding
Unlocked: Rank 3
"Shunts, Barges and Mines that hit your Shield are converted into Power-ups."
This doesn't mean any random powerup. It just converts them over to a usable
power up as if you just picked up that shunt/barge/mine.
Fun Note: Back in the open beta, instead of mines, it was bolts and it was
any amount that would be converted. Yes, you could have an almost infinite
firing of bolts if enough people kept attacking you with them.
Shielding Efficiency
Unlocked: Rank 9
"Your Shield is active for longer and can sustain an extra hit from Shock
blasts."
This is very useful if you find yourself not able to dodge Shocks very
easily.
Splash Damage
Unlocked: Rank 17
"Increases the blast radius of your Barge Attacks."
Fun note: Back in the open beta, this was necessary if you wanted more
usefulness on Barge than being pointblank with anything.
Scrambler
Unlocked: Rank 22
"Reverse Power-up attacks temporarily block your opponents from firing
Power-ups."
This is for all damaging powerups that drop behind you or using the reverse
fire.
Though, for Front Firing Mines, it would work somehow.
Shielded Bay
Unlocked: Rank 22
"Be immune to Scrambler attacks and Decoy Power-ups."
Magnetic Field
Unlocked: Rank 35
"Pick up Power-ups from further away."
Very useful if you have a hard time of keeping straight due to opponents
around you. Also great for Motor Mash.
Decoy Drop
Unlocked: Rank 40
"Dropped Power-ups become Decoys that explode when picked up by other
drivers."
I noticed that the damage dealt is standard except for the bolts. The bolts
seem to act like a fully bolted amount of damage.
(Slot 3) Add-on Enhancement
---------------
Laser Sight
Unlocked: Rank 3
"Adds a Laser Sight to assist with aiming Bolt shots."
Basically used for firing backwards, but as you become better at the game,
this quickly becomes useless.
Fan Favorite
Unlocked: Rank 3
"Gain extra Fans for your Finish Bonus."
Great way to increase your rank.
ECM
Unlocked: Rank 10
"Shunts are easier to evade. Shake them off when your warning changes
color!"
The mod changes the normal sound you hear when a shunt is coming at you and
you are the target. The Red bar behind your car (or on bottom screen when in
First Person view) will change to solid green when its clear for you to
dodge.
Bribe
Unlocked: Rank 15
"Get a random Power-up at the start and each time you are Wrecked."
A little edge at the start of a race.
Vampiric Wreck
Unlocked: Rank 25
"Repairs your vehicle each time you Wreck an opponent."
Excellent in Motor Mash.
Mastermine
Unlocked: Rank 30
"Near-miss Mines to detonate them into explosive fragments."
For this to work, you or someone else will have to miss hitting your mine
when driving on by. Being in an obvious long ways away from hitting it won't
make them go into fragments. If enough of the fragments are hit when a
person is driving through, the car will go in the air with a chance to flip
the person onto their roof.
Last Gasp
Unlocked: Rank 38
"Primes your car with explosives that you can detonate after you get
Wrecked."
When you take the hit that would destroy your car, your car becomes ghost-
like on your screen and you will have a few seconds to decide when to
detonate. Your powerups temporarily go away and all you have is the Detonate
Power-up. The explosives are pretty much the same as being Barged.
Silent Running
Unlocked: Rank 47
"Turns your car invisible unless you fire or take damage."
If you hit something on the ground hard enough like 2 light poles or hit a
wall just enough, you will get out of cloak. While you're cloaked, you
appear to others like a slight warp on the environment. I have heard that
those that don't have HD enabled televisions, they cannot see the car at all
while cloaked nor notice the warp in the environment.
Tips and Tricks [BLTAT]
===============
-Complete Single player is the most common thing I'll say. You don't have to
100% it, but completing Single Player gets you all the special cars unlocked.
One big reason for this is that since its been stated that the special Astra
Extreme and the Legend version Astra Extreme is not the same, there is one
nifty thing that could give you an edge if you think you can't win with a
regular Astra Extreme. Shannon's Astra Extreme is the exact same vehicle in
terms of stats and performance as the Legendary Astra Extreme. So if you
want a taste of what Legend VIII is like, then get that car.
-LEARN THE TRACK NAME AND SUB-NAME! It will possibly help you which car you
may want to use. Knowing what LA Docks Pacific Reach and LA Docks Cargo Run
makes a difference.
-Think about when you use powerups. It might not always be the best idea to
just use the nitro as soon as you pick it up.
-Make sure you get the Concept 1 Series tii Chrome (Race) (Class B) when you
are just starting. These days, most people have much better cars and better
understanding at using powerups so this can help every bit necessary.
