Little Intro
------------
Zerg Units are built in a different way other than the Protoss and Terran.
They are hatched from the larvae that comes from Hatcheries, Lairs and Hives.
In this way, you can build as many as 4 different types of units. However,
the larvae reproduces at a slower rate, but if you can capitalize on the
quickness of the unit production, you can have a good sized force in a small
amount of time. Also, Zerg Units self-heal themselves in the same the Zerg
buildings do.
Explanations:
Cost: How much the unit costs to build
Armor: What kind of armor the unit is wearing
HP: How much damage the unit can take
MP: How much energy the unit has
Supply: How much supply units the unit takes
Transport: How much space unit takes in transports
Ground Attack: How much damage the ground attack of unit does
Air Attack: How much damage the air attack of unit does
Attack Range: How far the unit can attack
Ground Attack Type: What kind of type unit attacks the ground. Explosive
means that damage is reduced to 50% when attacking small units, 75% against
medium units. Concussion damage means that damage is reduced to 25% when
attack large units and 50% when attacking medium units. Normal damage means
that the damage is same to all units.
Air Attack Type: As above, only having to do with air attacks.
Size: What is the size of the unit, only affects attacks
Attack Bonus: What the damage bonus is for each upgrade
THE GROUND UNITS
----------------
Drone:
Cost: 50 Minerals
Armor: 0
HP: 40
MP: 0
Supply: 1
Transport: 1
Ground Attack: 5
No Air Attack
Attack Range: 1
Ground Attack Type: Normal
Size: Small
Attack Bonus: 0
You'll be building many of these. The worker of the Zerg, the Drone has the
best attack of a worker unit. However, when building, the Drone actully turns
into the building which means that you lose a Drone, but regain a supply
point. This will tack on a +50 Mineral cost to every building. When Drones
are attacked however, they can just burrow out of the way.
---------
Zergling:
Cost: 50 Minerals (You get two for each transformation)
Armor: 0
HP: 35
MP: 0
Supply: 1 per pair
Transport: 1
Ground Attack: 5
No Air Attack
Attack Range: 1
Ground Attack Type: Normal
Size: Small
Attack Bonus: 1
If you are the type of player that likes rushes, you'll see many of these in
your base. Zerglings are quickly made (2 per egg) and are have a quick attack
and movement rate. However, the Zergling has an attack as weak as the Drone
and has less HP than the Drone. But you can overwhelm the enemy with their
sheer numbers. Although odd, but possible, you can destroy an enemy in
mid-game with a huge force of Zerglings.
---------
Hydralisk:
Cost: 75 Minerals, 25 Gas
Armor: 0
HP: 80
MP: 0
Supply: 1
Transport: 2
Ground Attack: 10
Air Attack: 10
Attack Range: 5
Ground Attack Type: Explosive
Air Attack Type: Explosive
Size: Medium
Attack Bonus: 1
You'll want to have Hydralisks in large groups so you can use them to defend
and attack. You can upgrade their speed and range which means you have a
great hit and run attacker. They can also be a great ambusher when you learn
the Burrow ability. However, their only weakness is that to build them, you
need a gas extractor early in the game. In 1.04, the build time has been
increased.
----------
Ultralisk:
Cost: 200 Minerals, 200 Gas
Armor: 1
HP: 400
MP: 0
Supply: 6
Transport: 4
Ground Attack: 20
No Air Attack
Attack Range: 1
Ground Attack Type: Normal
Size: Large
Attack Bonus: 3
If you get to late game stage, you'll want to build Ultralisks if not making
Defilers. Ultralisks can easily destroy enemy buildings and are a great
support unit. They can get pounded by ranged and air attacks, so have a few
Defilers cast Dark Swarm on any Ultralisk attackers.
:
--------
Defiler
Cost: 50 Minerals, 150 Gas
Armor: 1
HP: 80
MP: 200
Supply: 2
Transport: 2
No Ground Attack
No Air Attack
Attack Range: N/A
Size: Medium
Plague: 150 MP
The Zerg's version of Psionic Storm, the Defiler spits acidic juices which
damage any unit or building in the affected area. Plague skips Protoss
shields and goes straight for the un-recoverable HP. However, you can't kill
units or buildings with Plague. When the unit/building gets to 1 HP, Plague
no longer does damage.
Range of Spell: 10
Does it affect multiple units?: Yes, up to two space away from target.
Dark Swarm: 100 MP
A orange cloud surrounds the area and protects your ground units in the cloud
from any ranged or air attacks.
Range of Spell: 10
Does it affect multiple units?: No
Consume: 1 Zerg Ground Unit
By feeding a Zerg Unit to the Defiler, the Defiler gains a quick boost of 50
MP.
Range of Spell: 1
Does it affect multiple units?: No
The Defiler is the most underrated Zerg unit. The Plague spell can hurt
enemies severely, weakening enemy buildings any units as well as luring any
units caught in the Plague attack. Plague can hurt Terran the most because
remember, any buildings caught in the red zone will take damage until
repaired or destroyed. Dark Swarm can protect your units from ranged and air
attacks. Consume can replenish your Defiler's MP so you can cast multiple
Plagues.
----------------
Infested Terran:
Cost: 100 Minerals, 50 Gas
Armor: 0
HP: 60
MP: 0
Supply: 1
Transport: N/A
Ground Attack: 500
No Air Attack
Attack Range: 1
Ground Attack Type: Normal, Splash Damage
Size: Small
Attack Bonus: 0
Infested Terran are most useful when attacking unguarded buildings. Infested
Terrans are easily killed, but if not attacked, the damage done is
overwhelming.
THE AIR UNITS
-------------
Mutalisk:
Cost: 100 Minerals, 100 Gas
Armor: 0
HP: 120
MP: 0
Supply: 2
Ground Attack: 9
Air Attack: 9
Attack Range: 3
Ground Attack Type: Normal
Air Attack Type: Normal
Size: Small
Attack Bonus: 1
You can produce these in bulk and most people do. The attack value of 9 is
not very powerful, so you'll always want to attack in large groups of
Mutalisks. When attacking bunched up units or buildings, the Mutalisk attack
can hit the other targets for some light damage. The weakness of the Mutalisk
is that they are weak compared to the other basic air units. The build time
has been increased in 1.04.
---------
Guardian:
Cost: 50 Minerals, 100 Gas, 1 Mutalisk
Armor: Heavy
HP: 150
MP: 0
Supply: 2
Ground Attack: 20
No Air Attack
Attack Range: 8
Ground Attack Type: Normal
Size: Large
Attack Bonus: 2
Guardians are very useful in attacks from the air. Never attack with just a
force of Guardians since they can be killed easily from the air. Guardians
are used mainly to kill enemy Missile Towers, Spore Colonies, and Photon
Cannons. Guardians are costly and cannot be turned back into a Mutalisk once
fully transformed.
------
Queen:
Cost: 100 Minerals, 150 Gas
Armor: Medium
HP: 120
MP: 200
Supply: 2
No Ground Attack
No Air Attack
Attack Range: N/A
Size: Medium
Ensnare: 75 MP
The Queen spits out a green glob which slows attack and movement rate for any
units caught in the attack.
Range of Spell: 10
Does it affect multiple units?: Yes, up to 1 space away from blast.
Spawn Broodling: 150 MP
This spell launches a seed from the Queen and attaches itself to the targeted
unit. The unit dies in a matter of seconds and where the unit used to stand,
two broodlings appear. You can only target ground units with this spell, with
the exception of the Protoss Reaver and Archon.
Range of Spell: 10
Does it affect multiple units?: No
Parasite: 75 MP
When enemy units run away, use this spell to attach a parasite to their backs
You can see anything that unit sees, and the only way it can be stopped is
by the death of the unit.
Range of Spell: 12
Does it affect multiple units?: No
The Queen is mainly used for offense, but can suited for defense. The
Parasite spell is useful on retreating enemies as well as worker units.
Ensnare can be used to stop the effectiveness of your enemies attacks since
they move slower and attack slower. You can easily kill them when they are
Ensnare. Spawn Broodling can easily kill big ground units like Siege Tanks or
Reavers. The Infest Terran Command Center ability is also useful so you may
want to have a Queen hanging around when attacking a Terran Command Center.
--------
Scourge:
Cost: 25 Minerals, 75 Gas (You get two for each transformation)
Armor: Light
HP: 25
MP: 0
Supply: 1
No Ground Attack
Air Attack: 110
Attack Range: 1
Air Attack Type: Normal
Size: Small
Attack Bonus: 0
Always have a few hanging around your base. You can never kill an attacking
air unit with only one Scourge, so have you'll need two. Scourge are also
very handy in taking down Battlecruisers or Carriers quickly.
---------
Overlord:
Cost: 100 Minerals
Armor: Heavy
HP: 200
MP: 0
Supply: Adds 8 to current total
No Ground Attack
No Air Attack
Attack Range: N/A
Size: Large
Overlord are the staples of any Zerg army since they provide the Supply Units
They are great targets of enemies so always have a few extra Overlords in
case you lose one. They are the worst Transporters even after the Speed
Upgrade because of two reasons. Overlords are still kinda slow after the
upgrade and Overlords provide your Supply Units. In base defense however,
Overlords are very useful. Overlords can detect any cloaked units so you
can't be suprised Wraiths or Ghosts. In 1.04, the speed bonus is increased.
