Introduction
This is a walkthrough for the IOS/Android versions of Ys Chonicles I - Ancient
Ys Vanished Omen. This game is a port of Ys 1&2 Chronicles for PSP, which
itself was a port of The Japanese PC game Ys Complete, and Ys Eternal. This
guide does apply for those version also, as well as Ys 1&2 Eternal Story for
Playstation 2

Gameplay Tips
1: Save Often. The difficulty is not balanced in this game. You might be
invincible against enemies in a current area, but when you move on to the
next area, they kill you in just a few hits. The game allows you to save
anywhere, so make use of this.
2: Killing Enemies. If you've never played an Ys game before, the combat will
confuse you at first. You can't swing your sword. You have to strategically
"run into" them. You don't want to hit a enemy head on though. You want to be
slightly right or left if you are attacking them vertically. Or slightly above
or below them if attacking horizontally.
3: Refill Your Health. In non dungeon areas you regenerate health by standing
still. Use this to your advantage. Once you obtain the Health Ring you can
Regenerate your health in dungeons as well.
4: Original or Chronicles mode? You get this choice when chosing a new game,
but it has no affect on gameplay. It's mostly graphical and artwork changes.
I've heard people say that the choice affects screen ratio, but that doesn't
seem to be the case for me. I'm playing on an Iphone5.

Walkthrough
Town of Barbado
After the opening cutscene, you gain control of Adol. Walk over and talk to
Buldo, and Ira.
Optional Task: Short Sword
Right off the bat you can get a free short sword by talking to everyone in
town. This will save you a bit of money. Talk to Buldo and Ira again, and go
through all of their dialogue options Exit the building and you will find
George standing to the left of it. Pastor will be a little further to the left
near the Pickard's pen. Marco, Petero, StepheFran, and Arsia will be wandering
around town. In the building directly below Buldo's clinic you will find
Trance, Danny and Rebecca. Exit their house and enter the one to left of it.
You will find Sheryl, Mayson and Silvia. There will be 2 buildings to left of
Mayson's house, take the top one to enter the bar. Talk to Karin and Gerald.
Exit the bar and go left, then north, bypassing the building to your left,
and enter the house north of it. Talk to Daria. Now enter the big building
south of the barthe other building. Talk to Drake, then take the stairs up to
the roof and you will find Jerrop in the upper right hand corner. Backtrack to
the first floor, and talk to Slaghf. Go through all of his options, and when
you chose the last one, he should give you the short sword, if not, you missed
someone.
There is nothing else to do in Barbado, so exit north the grasslands
Grasslands
Follow the linear path in a northern direction. You will soon see what looks
like a castle wall. Make your way to the left side of it, and go north. This
is the outside of the Town of Minea, and this is where we want to go, but
there are a few things we could do first.
Optional Task: Golden Pedestal
Cross the bridge, and go north to the next screen. Go north again from this
screen. Go east here, and cross the bridge. You may want to avoid the wolves
for now, they hit pretty hard at level 1 with no equipment. Go east across
another bridge, and then go south. In this new area go south and you will
see a lake at the bottom. Go to the upper right hand corner of it, and
you will find the golden Pedestal, which we can sell at the shop for 2000
gold.
Optional Task: Bestiary Potion
From the Lake where you found the Gold Pedestal, take the exit that is west
and slightly north from it. You will find a chest, open it to get the bestiary
potion. If you equip it, and then use it, you will gain information about
enemies. Now back track to Minea and enter.
Town of Minea
The first thing you should do is visit Pim's shop to sell the Golden Pedestal.
It's the leftmost building in the first row.
Optional Task:
Buy the Sapphire Ring from Pim's shop. The cost is 1000 gold, but when you
return it to the owner, he will pay you 1500g. Leave Pim's shop and enter the
first building on the right side of the path. This is the bar. Talk to the 3
men sitting at the bar. First talk to the master, then talk to the one eyed
man and listen to his story. Talk to him a second time, and will give you
1500g for the ring.
Now go to the bottom of town, and go to the right for the the weapons and
armor shops If you've done all of the optional task so far, you will already
have the short sword, plus 3500 gold. This is enough to buy the Long Sword,
Chain Mail, and Small Shield. If you haven't done the optional quests, then
you need to go to the field and grind. You need one of each to advance the
story, and the game doesn't start you off with out money. Go all the way to
the left and enter the building there. Talk to Sarah the fortune teller.
Accept her challenge and you will You obtain Sarah's Crystal. Before you
leave town, go back to Pim's shop and purchase a wing. This will allow you to
warp back to Minea at any time. If you chose it, and refuse to buy it 9 times,
he will drop his prices by 20% permanatly.
Leave town and go North 2 screens, then east across the bridge. Go North east
here, and then exit east to the Zeptik Village.
Zeptik Village
Go back across the bridge, go to the 4-way dirt fork, and this time go east to
Zepic Village. Speak to the Mayor to get access to the mountains, then speak
to the Jevah in her house to get the Shrine key. You may also want to talk to
Iris while you are here to open up a side quest last. She is wearing a white
dress, and wandering around outside of her house. Speak with her a few times
to get all of her dialogue options. Exit north to the mountains. Go north
until you reach the entrance to the shrine, then go east. Follow the northern
path to the Theif Stronghold, and talk to Goban. Now it's time to do some
major level grinding. Spend time outside of Solomon Shrine getting Grinding
your gold up to 3000. I find it easiest to kill the knight on the bridge, then
run left and kill the 2 over there. Just run back and forth and do this, they
respawn. This takes up a bit of time, but it is necessary for the
upcoming boss fight. Once you have 3000 gold, enter Solomon Shrine. go right
and touch the gold statue. From the entrance, go to the doorway to the right,
and open the chest to get a Ruby. Use the wing to return to Minea. Enter Pim's
shop and sell the Ruby for 1200g and buy another Wing. Now go to the Armor
shop and buy the Plate Mail, and Middle Shield. Now return to Solomon's Shrine
and enter.
Solomon's Shrine
B1F
Go all the way to the right, and you will see a gold statue. Touch it to
teleport. From where you start go south, then west, then south through 2
doorways. Go west, then north through the door. Then west, and south through
a door. Go west, and north. You will see a special door. Go through it for a
boss fight.
Boss Fight
Wait on the bottom, or top of screen, and wait for him to appear in the
middle. When he does, run through him as soon as there is an opening in the
fire. Obviously you can do this at any point, but to account for the sluggish
cell phone controls, just wait in the middle. Afterwards continue through the
hole in the wall.
B2F
Note that you can't regenerate health in dungeons, but you can on B1F. So stay
close to the entrance.
From the entrance go South, west slightly, then south through a series of
doors. Go east, and north through the second door you come to. This will lead
you to a chest containing the Jail Key. Go back through the doors, and go
east, and north to the next door you come to. Follow the path east, and take
then second the last path there north, and follow it to get the Treasure Box
key. Backtrack south, follow the path back west, and take the first path
north that you come to. When you reach a path to the south, take it, and get
the silver bell from the chest. Time to backtrack out of here. Follow the path
back to the southern wall, then to the western wall, and back up the series of
stairs. Head east, and take the second path north. Continue going east, take
the path south when you hit a fork, and continue east. You will see 2 prison
cells. Open the second one to rescue Feena and get the Mask of eyes. When you
are done talking to her, go south, and hug the eastern wall. This will lead
to a chest containing the necklace. backtrack to B1F.
B1F
Go south through the doors until you hit the southern wall. Go east, north
through the door. Then east, south through the door. Then east, and north
through three doors, leading to a chest with the Ring mail. Now backtrack to
the Statue, and leave.
Misc Items
Go back south to the Zeptik Village, and talk to the May. You will return the
towns Silver bell, and get the power ring in return. You should equip this
immediately. This is the ring you will use the majority of the time.
Optional Task: Parchment
Exit Zeptik, and go west, south, and then east across the long bridge. Exit
to the south. In this area take the south exit directly under the Lake.
Take the exit to left of the huge Loda Tree, and follow this path to a chest
You will get the Parchment, which can be used later. .
Now go to Minea, and sell the Necklace at Pim's Market, for 500g
Optional Task:Talwarl
Return to Port Barbado, the starting town and talk to Slaghf again. if you
don't remember how to get there, just exit left from Minea, and go south.
Slaghf will give you the Tarlwarl.
Optional Task: Rescue the sleepwalker
While you are Barbado visit Buldo's Clinic, and you may see him talking
someoneIf not, talk to him, leave town, and return. You must have also
talked to his wife Iris in Zeptik. After he leaves, return to Minea. Go
north 1 screen, and head west. On this new screen you should hear a fighting
sound. Go north a bit and follow it. Kill the enemies there, and Luther Gemma
will introduce himself, and warp you back to his house in Zeptik. There is no
real reward for this, it just fleshes out the story a bit.
Optional Task:Reflex Armor and Large Shield
Now might be a good time to grind up the remaining money to get the best
equipment from the shop. Head West out of Zeptic, and cross the brige. Keep
going West, and north, and you will eventually find the Abandoned Mines. The
game warns that you should be a level 8 minimum before entering, but level 6
should be sufficient. Just run in, kill the first 2 enemies, and run back out.
They drop 200 gold each Farm them until you have 11,000. Return to Minea and
buy the Reflex Armor, and Large shield from the Armor shop.
Make sure you have a wing. Now Head back to Solomons Shrine.
Solomon Shrine
B1F
From where you start go south, then west, then south through 2
doorways. Go west, then north through the door. Then west, and south through
a door. Go west, and north.
B2F
Go south through the series of doors again. Go east, then north through the
third doorway. Follow the path east until you hit a wall, Then go north and
follow the path around to B3F
B3F
Follow the path west to find a chest in the northwest corner of the room
containing the Ivory key. You should probably spend some time here leveling
up. The enemies on the bottom half of this floor are tough. I reccomend
getting to level 12. Follow the path to southwestern corner of this room. You
will see a gold teleport statue here, but don't take it yet. Go east past it,
and follow the linear path to next teleport statue that you see. Take this
one. Follow the path to get to a chest containing the Silver Shield. Go south
and take the next teleport statue. Then follow the path back west, and take
this teleport statue. Go south, you will see a gray statue. Remember this
point. Head west, and go through the door to a chest containing a heal potion.
Go back to the gray statue, and equip the mask of eyes. A door will appear
next to the statue. Go through it, and take off the mask. You can't see
enemies while it's equipped. Take the south door, and Go east, and take
the series of doors and the statue, until you reach a chest with the marble
key. Now backtrack to the door you went through with the mask of eyes, and go
north. Go west, then north through the door touch the wall for a boss fight.
Boss Fight
This Snake-like enemy can only damamge you with his head. So your strategy is
to run circles around him, and keep running into his body. He should go down
quite easily.
Afterwards, go to the indentation on the wall where the snake was and go
through the door to get the chest to get the first book of Ys. Use a wing
to return to Minea otherwise you have to walk out of the shrine. Visit Sarah
the Seer in the lower left hand corner of town to get the second book of Ys.
Time to go to the mines. Head north out of Minea, and go north 2 screens.
When you reach the third screen, go North west to entrance of the Mine.
Abandoned Mine
Level 1
From the entrance, head west. Keep going west past the southern path. follow
the path down, and around to a chest containing a potion. Follow the path east
and south. At the intersection go east for a chest containing the Timer Ring.
From there go North, and east, and follow the path to the northeast to a chest
with the Silver Armor. Follow the path south, stay to the east and go south.
Then go west across a bridge. Follow the path around, and go through the
entrance to the next level of the cave.
Level 2
Go east, and stick to the north wall. You will see a chest to the south
along the way. Go south to the entrance of this small area. Open
the Chest for a Heal ring. The heal ring is one of the most useful items in
the game. When it's equipped it allows you to regenerate health while standing
still in dungeons. Hug the east wall, and go all the way south. Follow it west
across a bridge. Go north and open the chest containing the Loda seed. Go
north, then east when you have to. You will see three paths going south. Take
the Third and hug the left wall to a chest containing the Harmonica. Use a
wing to return to Minea
Silver Sword
Go to the Upper right hand corner of town and take the door. follow the path
and give Reah the Harmonica. If you Picked up the Parchment, equip it, and use
it in front of Reah Now. Now Leave Minea. Equip the Loda seed, and use it. Go
North 1 Screen, and then go left on this screen. Follow the path south and
west, and then hug the west wall You will see a tree that is much bigger than
the rest of them. This is the Loda Tree. Go in front of it to talk to it. He
will tell you to go see his brother, so head east across 2 bridges. Head south
on this screen, then south and a little to the right on the next. to another
Loda Tree. You will receive the Silver Sword. Now go back to the mines, and
get to the Entrance of Level 2.
Level 2
From the entrance head west, and south, and then east past the little rock
outcrop. It's hard to see, but the entrance to level 3 is on the south side of
this huge rock.
Level 3
Follow the Linear path. When you reach a fork, go west. Go north when you see
and enemy. Follow this area to a chest containing the Key of Dahm. Go back
west, and continue to follow the path west. At the fork go south for a chest
containing a potion. Go back to the fork and go east. Follow the linear path
around to a door. Make sure you are at max level before entering, and have all
the equipment from the shop before you enter. Open the chest to start the
boss fight.
Boss Fight
This boss spends most of his time as a swarm of tiny bats. He can't be damaged
until they all come together to form one giant bat. This fight can be a pain
on cell phones because your thumb is often in the way. The best way to handle
this fight to stay in the top corners. Start in the top left if the Swarm
comes after you fast, back up, he is going to form, and then hit him. If it
comes slow, try and circle out of there and go to the other corner After the
battle open the chest for the 3rd book of Ys.
Preparing for the Tower
Time to tie up any loose ends, since you can't return from Dahm Tower. If you
haven't done so already, Go to Minea and buy all the equipment you don't have.
Then head over to Zepik, and to the Jevah's house. If you haven't visited with
them since recuing Feena, talk to them both, then leave town and return. Feena
should be gone this time. You can find her on the Pier on the right side of
town for a scene. Talk to Jeva, and Adol will tell her of Sarah's fate. Leave
town and reenter again talk to Jevah and and have her read all 3 books of Ys.
Leave town and reenter again. This time Feena should be back with Jevah. Talk
to her, and she will tell you to head to Dahm Tower. Now head back to the
theives Stronghold, east of the Solomon Shrine. Talk to Goban, and choose yes
to enter Dahm Tower. You can't leave the tower once you enter.
Dahm Tower
1F
From the Entrance go east. Pass the first path north, and take the second one.
Go outside. There is an area like this in between every floor. You can
regenerate health in these outside areas. Also it is circular, so going left
or right doesn't matter. There are always only 2 doors, the one you came
through, and the one you need to go to. Go to the next door to 2F
2F
Follow the Path, and head into the northern room with 3 chests. Containing a
Heal Potion, Mirror, and the Evil Ring. Backtrack to 1F
1F
Take the Northern path to the west.
3F
Follow the path South, then east. When you see a gap in the statue, you can
use the Mask of Eyes to reveal a door there, but there is no need to right now
Follow the path to 4F
4F
Go south, east, then north.
5F
Head West, and take the second path to the North. There is nothing on the
first path
6F
Walk through the door, and you will be zapped down to the basement.
B1F
You are now in a prison, and all of your Silver Equipment is gone! Take the
time to reequip yourself. Go over and talk to Luther Gemma, he will have
different dialouge depending on whether you did the side quest to meed him or
not. then inspect the right side of the wall to get some dialogue, then just
back up and wait. Cue Dogi's customary break the wall scene. Then
Talk to him to receive the Eagle Statue. On cell phones it says statue taken,
but it must be a mistranslation, because you do receive it. Head west,
and start the trek back to where you were. Be a bit more careful though, you
aren't as strong as you were.
3F
When you reach the gap in the row of statues, Use the Mask of eyes, and go
through the door. Talk to the old man to receive the blue Necklace
6F
When you reach the trio of statues again, Equip the blue Necklace before
going in any further, and you will be safe. Follow the path east.
7F
Head West, then south, then east and through the north door. Follow that path
to a chest to recover the Silver Sword. Go back north, and go the right of the
2 northern doors.
8F
Follow the path Down, and around to the Boss Door on the far left.
Boss Fight
The Preying Mantis stays up against the north wall, and throw out 3 boomerang
like blades at a time. You'll want to stay on the bottom of the screen here,
wait for him to throw out his 3 blades, and loop around them, and attack the
Mantis while he's defenseless. You only have time for one run through. You'll
basically be running in circles until he is dead. After he is defeated, go
through the northern door, and open the chest containing the Hammer, and
another Book of Ys. Now, backtrack to the eastern exit.
9F
Ignore the door directly to the south of you. Go West, then south.
You will see a chest along the way. Follow the Path around to regain your
Silver Shield. Once you do though, the statues will come to life. Then
go south, and through the door.
10F
Go West to a north/south fork. Go North. Outside go left to the second column
equip the Hammer and Smash it. Luther Gemma has taken up residence on the 11th
floor, but there is no need see to him right now, unless you just want to see
the dialogue. You will need to return here later though, so remember the
location. Go back inside, and take the southern fork. Go through the door in
the far east side of the floor.
11F
This floor would've slowly zapped your health if you didn't smash the column.
Head east to the exit.
12F
Head West and go through the door.
13F
You can talk to Rauba here if you want, but it's not necessary.
Go West, and take the northern Door here.
14F
Go east, and through the door for a boss fight.
Boss Fight
There isn't much strategy to this rock guy, just stay tight on him and keep
running left and right. With a little luck, he will run out of HP before you
do. Go north through the door, and open the chests containing the Rod, and the
5th Book of Ys. Go back to 13F.
13F
Go through
the southern door, and touch the mirror. Head south here passing
by a mirror on the way. Touch the southern most mirror. Go west, and south.
Touch the mirror. Touch the mirror in the northeastern section here. Kill the
enemy, and open the chest to regain your Silver Armor. Touch the Mirror to go
back to the beginning. Go through the south door and touch the mirror. Go
south, and touch the first mirror you come to. Take the right mirror in the
room you emerge in. Touch the mirror that you appear in front of, then follow
the path to the exit.
15F
Go west, and take the southern path first. Open the chest for the Battle
Shield. Go back north, and follow the path west. Ignore the path north for
now, and follow the path south, east, south, then west to enter Rahd's Tower
Rahd's Tower
Follow the path around, its linear. When you get to a door, equip the blue
Necklace, and the Evil Ring together, and go through the door. Speak with
Reah to get the Glasses. Equip the Glasses, and use them to read the Green
and Yellow books. Now Exit Rahd's Tower, back to 15F
15F
It's now time to back track to 10F
10F
Once you reach the red hallway on 10F, follow the path to western side of
the room, then take the exit directly to the north.
11f
Talk to Luther Gemma. You will receive the Blue Amulet. Got back to 15F.
15F
Take the path directly to the left of where you enter. Follow this path,
and take the northern exit when you reach a fork.
17F
Head down the right path, the left is just a dead end. Make sure you have
full health you have to take on the enemies head on, and this can sometimes
kill. Have a health potion ready just in case, you are about to get another
anyways. Go west, then north, and open the chest for a health potion.
Go west, and north to the exit.
18F
Go South and take the eastern fork. Go north at the north/south fork
and through the door.
19F
Follow the Path around here, and open the chest for the Battle Armor. Go back
down to 18F Go south until you a wall. Then west until you hit a wall. Then
north and through the exit.
20F
Follow the path, and when you see enemies burst through the wall, avoid them
and go through the hole in the wall. Avoid the enemies in
front of the chest, then open it to get the flame sword. Go back through the
door, and follow the path east to the next floor.
21F
Go east, and touch the northern mirror. There are 2 doors south of you.
Take the one on the right and follow the path northeast to touch another
mirror. You will appear in a room with 2 mirror. Touch the left mirror, and
follow the path to a boss fight.
Boss fight
The boss is 2 floating heads, a yellow one, and blue one, each with 4
floating orbs around them. Only the yellow head can take damage, and each
time you hit him, they will swap places. So just stand on the bottom of the
screen, and wait for an opportunity to run and hit the yellow head, and return
to the bottom. This fight can be difficult with touch screen controls, but it
actually gets easier as the fight goes on, because the orbs go away as they
take damage.
After the fight, Go north through the series of doors, and through another
boss door. Equip the Silver Sword, Silver Shield, and Silver Armor, Dark Fakt
won't take any damage from any other weapons, and he does tons of damage to
you without the silver equipment. Step on the tile with the design on it.
Boss Fight
Dark Fakt is a pain. He floats back and forth through the screen, and hits you
with fireballs the entire time. If that's not bad enough, everytime you get a
hit, a piece of the floor disappears. If you are standing on top of it, you
automatically die. The other problem is that if you just hit him randomly, you
may run out of room. The best strategy is to run in circles around the edge of
the floor, so you still have room to manuever. It still takes a bit of luck
to beat him. After he's finished, pick up the final Book of Ys from his cape.
Equip the glasses, and read the black book.
Congratulations, you finished Ys book 1
