                                INTRODUCTION
===============================================================================

Hello and welcome to the Keystone Kapers FAQ. This handy text document will
tell you how to play this game, the enemies, and hints and tips. I am playing
this game from the Activision Anthology on the PlayStation 2, and I am hoping
that the version that I am using is the same as the normal one that was
released.

                              2. GAME OVERVIEW
===============================================================================

This section is just a look over all things in the game, such as how to play
it, the enemies and obstacles and controls.

Controls
--------

Joystick                                 - Move Kop

Fire Button                              - Jump

Moving the Joystick to the left and right moves it in the corresponding
direction, moving it down ducks the Kop, and moving it up by an open elevator
makes the Kop step inside it. Moving the Joystick left or right and pressing
Fire enables the Kop to perform a running jump.

Playing the Game
----------------

You play a Kop in a shopping mall, where a Krook has stolen some good and is
making his escape. You have to chase him through the shopping mall and catch
him before he escapes, while avoiding various obstacles along the way.

Each level is timed to 50 seconds, and the timer is found below your score.
When you have 10 seconds remaining, it flashes to let you know that you are
running out of time! You score points by catching the Krook. You get more
points the quicker you catch him. In levels 1 - 9 you get what's left on the
clock x100 points, levels 9 - 16 x200 points, and levels 16 onward x300 points.
Also, collecting suitcases and bags gets you an additional 50 points.

You start with a Kop in play and three in reserve. You receive an extra Kop
per 10,000 points made, however you can only store three Kops in reserve.
You lose a Kop if you touch a biplane, fail to catch the Krook by letting him
escape on the roof or when you run out of time. When all your Kops are gone,
its game over!

There is two ways of going up floors; by elevator or escalator. To use the
elevator stand in front of it and when the door opens (it becomes green) press
Up. Press Down to exit the elevator. The elevator is not a reliable choice to
take for several reasons; it doesn't go to the roof, and the Krook will change
floors if he sees you coming. So if you do tend to use them, then get off at
the floor closest. The escalators are on the edges of the building, and take
you up to the floor above. There is also one that goes up the roof, which is
handy needless to say. A tip is to jump onto the elevator, as its slow ascent
will be shortened, meaning you save a bit of time.

Use the map on the bottom of the screen as much as you can. The black dot is
you (the Kop) the white dot is the Krook, the escalators are the black lines at
the sides and the grey square in the middle of the building is where the
elevator is currently positioned.

Obstacles
---------

There are a range of obstacles in the game that you have to avoid in order to
catch the Krook, each having variations as the levels go on.

Beachballs - These can be jumped over when it bounces off the ground. Later
you will come across beachballs that bounce very high; look where
they are going to bounce, and position yourself near there and
duck so it goes straight over you. You will get a 9 second time
            reduction if you touch these!
Radios -     These can be jumped over. Later, more than one may be on the
same part of the screen at once. You will get a 9 second time
            reduction if you touch these!
Trolleys -   The shopping trolleys have to be run and jumped over. Make sure
that your timing is right! Later on, they speed up and have to
be jumped over twice in the same part of the screen. You will get
a 9 second reduction if you touch these!
Biplane -    The most deadly of them all, if you touch these you lose a Kop
and you have to restart the level! Simply duck when these
approach. When you first meet them, you will need to duck twice,
once as they come, and again just before you head off to the
next screen. Make sure that you don't forget this. Later when it
speeds up you will have to duck under it three times on the same
            part of the screen.

To help overcome the patterns of the Trolleys and Biplanes, you need to
develop a rhythm so you can progress past them safely.

===============================================================================
                             3. HINTS AND TIPS
===============================================================================

• The first beachballs can be easily overcome by just running and jumping, as
when you approach them they are at the position of bouncing off the ground.
• Unless you really want to / have to don't use the elevators. I find it much
 easier taking the escalators.
• Don't head onto the roof without the Krook being there! You cannot head back
down once you are up there, and he will not come up. Keep an eye on the
map at the bottom of the screen to monitor the movements of the Krook at all
 times.
• Jump on the escalators to save time when using them.
• Timing is vital! Developing a rhythm will help you get past the trolleys and
biplanes later on. Use the sound of the Kop's movement if it helps.
• Take your time at the obstacles - being hasty could lose you a lot of time
 or even lives!
• As always, PRACTICE!!
