How to Play
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
[HELP]
----------------
CHARACTER GENDER
----------------
At the very start of the game, when choosing a new game, you are given a
choice of two characters to play - the default boy, called 'This Baggage', and a
nameless girl.
Choosing the girl gives you an 'easy mode' playthrough of the game.
Certain advice houses will only dispense advice to the girl, and all items in
shops are half-price. The enemies might also become easier, but the author does
not believe so.
----------
STATUS BAR
----------
On top of your play screen, you will have a status bar with 6 items of
interest.
The two items on the left are the items you are holding in your left and
right hand. Some items will have numbers on them, making them limited use. A
couple of these slowly tick down over time passively when they are held in one
of your hands, such as the Lantern, so you will want to de-equip it when not in
use. Other items tick down when being used actively, such as some of the food
weapons.
In the middle are another three numbers:
Hearts - Indicates how much health you currently have
Food - Indicates the amount of food you are 'wearing'
Money - How much Gold you currently have
Finally, on the right side is the timer, which counts the in-day time.
This timer is fairly important, as most shops, all advice houses and the Slots
machines are only open between 9:00 and 20:00.
----------------
INVENTORY SCREEN
----------------
When you press Start, you can open up your Inventory Screen. At the very
start of the game, you can only cart around 4 slots worth of items at a time.
However, once you pick up a Luc (which can also be done at the very start of the
game), you can permanently upgrade your inventory capacity to 16 slots.
Each slot does not necessarily carry a single item. Rather, each slot
can carry up to 1 each of unique items, or up to 10 each of a single kind of
consumable, such as Croissants, Bread or Lanterns. You can fill two or more
slots up with the same type of item as well.
---------------------------------
EQUIPPING AND WEARING/USING ITEMS
---------------------------------
When in the inventory screen, pressing B will allow you to toggle your
cursor between 'right hand', 'left hand', and your character's avatar. You can
technically hold anything in either of the three options, but each item can only
actually be used with one of the three choices. To de-equip an item, merely
select an empty space on your Inventory screen.
Right-hand items are items that you must actively press the B button to
use, such as your weapons.
Left-hand items are items that are passively used on the overworld. The
main item you will often be holding in your left hand is the Lantern for use in
subterranean areas to light up the caverns, making it easier to use.
Character items are items that you 'wear' or 'use' immediately. The two
types of shoes and the Luc must all be Worn to use. When an item is Worn, it is
used up permanently. Speed shoes and Jump shoes can also be stacked (10 for the
Speed Shoes, 8 for the Jump Shoes). However, when 'Wearing' Shoes, only one is
actually applied at a time. Therefore, if you were carrying 4 Jump Shoes in the
same slot, you would have to press the A button to Wear the Jump Shoes, press
the A button to put 3 Jump Shoes back into your inventory, and then repeat
wearing them until they are all permanently applied to yuor character.
Other Character items include the Secret Medicine, and Food to be
applied to your Food bar.
----------
TRAVELLING
----------
Each stage has three 'floors' to it (Spring has four), with each floor
being 16 screens long, and the screens for each floor are aligned so 1-1 is
right above 2-1. Some screens can be travelled between, such as going
horizontally from 1-1 to 1-2, or vertically from 1-2 to 2-2. You start at 1-1
for each level.
A lot of rooms have HIDDEN holes that you need to step over to trigger
to appear and fall down. These are typically indicated in the walkthrough with
specific steps on where to walk over to fall down.
Other times when going up or down, it is a one-way trip, and you need to
travel further to find a way back up or down to the screen from where you came
from if you wish to return.
-------------------
JUMPING AND GLIDING
-------------------
Either of your characters can jump through the use of the B button. By
pressing and holding the B button in the air, he or she will hold up an umbrella
which will slow his or her descent. By pressing and holding either the Right or
Left button, you can glide in a specific direction while slowly lowering to the
Earth.
Pressing the B button when landing can also break your movement speed on
impact.
-----
DYING
-----
There are two methods of dying in this game. In either case, if you die,
your game is autosaved. Starting your game up again places you on the screen you
died.
The first way you may die is if you run out of HP. Enemies can cause you
damage, but wading through shallow water will also slowly remove HP from you.
Falling into 'water cliffs' or 'water pits' as this guide calls them is
an instant kill. The background for these is more of a faded blue colour than
the regular water. You need to be especially careful when going down holes into
subterranean areas, as there tend to be a lot of water pits right underneath
holes, so you need to glide to safety as soon as you fall down a hole.
------------
LEVELLING UP
------------
Levelling up is done by killing enemies. Unfortunately, there does not
seem to be an actual experience counter to work off to tell when you will level
up next.
When you level up, you can tell by the screen flashing along with a
short message telling you that you levelled up.
Your health will double every time you level up. Starting at 120HP, this
means you then go up to 240HP, 480HP, 960HP, 1920HP, and so on.
--------
FIGHTING
--------
By equipping a weapon to your right hand, you can use the B button to
use the weapon and attack enemies.
Not all enemies are apparently killable. The grey humanoids in the
Spring level are one example, and they will steal money from you if you let them
contact you.
A monster's death indicated by a flash of white light. Monsters will
usually give off a Heart after their death, which you can grab to recover
health.
This guide does not give a description of every monster in the game. You
can read a brief blurb of each of them from the stage-specific pages on the Kn-
BOX website:
http://knbox.web.fc2.com/retros/pocotop.htm
----
FOOD
----
By Wearing/Using Food items in your inventory screen, you add food to
your Food bar on the status menu. Over time, the number on the Food status will
slowly tick down, but as it does it will also recover your health.
------------
MAKING MONEY
------------
In Woody Poko, if you do not use a password to start off with 60,000+
gold, there are five methods to make Gold.
'
1. On 1-5 of Spring stage, move and brush up against the tree to the
right of the Shop. Gold coins will drop out of the tree. You can exit and re-
enter the screen and repeat this to farm gold.
2. Gold bullion can be found littered throughout each stage, mostly in
underground sections. However, once you pick up a bar of gold for 15 Gold, it
does NOT respawn.
3. Pawn off items at the Pawn shop. You can also steal an item from a
shop and then Pawn it off, though you have to go through a trial to revert away
from your Thief status back to normal. By stocking up on Secret Medicines, you
can steal an item, use the Secret Medicine to temporarily go back into a shop
again, and repeat, buying high-price items worth more than the cost of the
Secret Medicines.
4. Playing Slots. Each stage except for Level 6 has a Slots machine.
Refer to this below in the Slots header.
5. When visiting an Inn, you will be told one of 101, 102 or 103 to
enter. If you do not go into your room but into one of the other two rooms,
there will be a big guy on the bed, who will ask you to press either the A or B
button. Of the two wrong rooms, and the two answers for each, there is only one
correct choice (so one out of four possible answers). If you get the correct
answer, you get more money than you paid for to visit the Inn. However, if you
get the incorrect answer you lose half the Gold you have on-hand.
-----
SHOPS
-----
Shops may only be visited between 9:00 and 20:00.
In most shops, you will have three items on display. Examine one of the
items to have it show up on your top menu bar. Head right without examining the
other two items or backing away too far from the first item, and talk to the
person at the counter using the B button.
You will then get one of the odder design choices in Woody Poko - you
are, by default, asked if you want to buy 10x of any item (or the maximum you
can buy with the money you currently have). Press B to decrease it by an amount
of 1 item every time.
Do NOT go outside if you have an item in your top menu bar still. If you
do, your character will automatically run off with the item without paying,
resulting in him or her being a thief, and thus preventing you from using the
shops until you get rid of your Thief status by visiting a Slots machine area
and passing a trial.
There are five regular types of shops. These are the Food Shop (bread
symbol), Storage Shop (Bag symbol), Shoes Shop (Shoes symbol), Miscellaneous
Shop (Candle symbol) and ??? Shop (? symbol).
In Pawn Shops, which have a scales symbol, you can sell items you do not
need, at half the price you bought it for. To do so, equip the item you desire
to offload into either your right hand or left hand, then talk to the shopkeep
and indicate which hand holds the item you desire to sell.
Finally, there are the Mail order shops, which show up in later stages.
Here, you can order any item that can be found at other shops, but you will have
to wait for quite a lengthy period of in-game time before you can head back and
pick up your item.
----
INNS
----
Inns can be visited at any time. For a small amount of Gold, you can get
a room and stay in a bed, recovering all your HP. The timer does not
automatically tick to 9:00 or anything, but so long as you are in a bed, without
pressing the D-Pad buttons to move out, the timer fast-forwards. The Inn is open
at ALL times, not just 9:00 to 20:00.
Inns have another baffling design choice in Woody Poko. Often times, the
Inn will have no vacancies when you go up to the counter, and you will be
automatically planted right outside the inn. Head back indoors and repeat until
a room is opened up for you.
The receptionist will give you a specific room number to stay in. If you
take one of the two incorrect rooms, you get a 1-in-4 chance to make money, but
a 3-in-4 chance to lose half your Gold (see above on 'Making Money', part 5).
-------------
ADVICE HOUSES
-------------
There are also numerous private houses in each level except for Stage 6.
In these households, which you can only visit between 9:00 and 20:00,
individuals will provide you with often cryptic hints on getting through the
game.
Some places will only give advice to the girl, and others require you to
make a payment in Gold or items to them.
-----
SLOTS
-----
On each stage except for the last stage, there is a screen with a Slots
Machine that you can enter between 9:00 and 20:00. You can bet up to 200 Gold
per roll of the Slots, and testing on an emulator shows that the results are NOT
rigged.
Beware, however, that you do not win enough Gold so that you would go
over 65536 Gold, or else your Gold counter will actually roll over to 0 Gold.
If you have Thief status, you will enter a Trial room first (see below).
Once you get rid of your Thief status, you can play Slots again normally.
3 zombies - Your total gold in your inventory (NOT YOUR BET) is cut in half
Cherry on far right - 2x
Cherry on middle and far right - 4x
3 Cherries - 10x
Cherry on far left, Bells on middle and far right - 12x
3 Eggplants - 18x
3 Bells - 20x
2 Bells, 7 on far right - 16x
Bell on far left, 7s on middle and far right - 24x
777s - 32x
------------
THIEF STATUS
------------
If you examine an item in a shop so that it shows up at the top of your
screen, then walk out left while the item is still on the top of the screen, you
will have stolen the item (and the Shopkeep calls you a Thief). While a Thief,
your character has a mask around his or her face. You cannot go to any of the
normal shops, but you can still sell stuff at the Pawn Shop and visit the Inn.
Using a Secret Medicine makes you temporarily take the form of the girl,
and you can enter Shops while the effect lasts (and steal another item!).
To get rid of the Thief status, you must go to a Slot Machine screen and
enter the door to the Slots. You will instead be taken to a Trial room. Much
like with the Slots, this can only be done between 9:00 and 20:00.
In this trial room, there will be a man on the stage. After some time,
you may see either an 'A' appear in the background to his left, a 'B' to his
right, or both.
What you must do is predict which will appear, then press and hold down
the A or B button on your controller prior to it actually appearing. If your
reflexes are razor-sharp, you also have a split-second to press and hold the
button(s) when either or both of the letters appear.
If you succeed, a circle will appear below the man. If you fail, an X
shall appear. To finish the trial, you must get ten correct choices in a row.
You will then be put back outside, with your status and avatar back to normal.
If you fail, you can re-enter and redo the trial.
The Kn-BOX website cited in the credits states that you may have to do
the Trial three times to get rid of your thief status (the author only had to do
it once). If you steal an item again, you can return and do the trial once
again.
-------
FISHING
-------
You can buy a Fishing Rod from the Bag/Storage shop in Stage 5. By
equipping it on your right-hand and using it next to water, you can catch a
Salmon item.

Walkthrough
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
[WALK]
The interface for this game can be confusing at times. As such, at least
in the early stages, the author will be extremely specific at times on what to
do to proceed, killing enemies, etc. As the walkthrough goes on, it is assumed
you slowly grasp familiarity with the gameplay, and so do not need to be told to
do certain things in extreme detail, such as to press the B button, hold the B
button once you hit the top height of your jump, then press and hold a D-Pad
button to glide over a small body of water.
Each stage is split up into several different screens. There is a text
map provided at the start of each section, and the walkthrough is detailed
screen-by-screen. The walkthrough does admittedly get a bit repetitive at times
as you may need to go right or left several screens at a time. When you are
backtracking, however, directions may be summed up to backtrack across several
screens in one line instead.
Gold and item pick-ups are also given right after the map for each page.
Many of these are written into the walkthrough, and denoted as such. The rooms
to follow to get to each Gold or item is usually also noted.
----------------
READING THE MAPS
----------------
Each stage has three 'floors' to it (Spring has four), with each floor
being 16 screens long, and the screens for each floor are aligned so 1-1 is
right above 2-1. Some screens can be travelled between, such as going
horizontally from 1-1 to 1-2, or vertically from 1-2 to 2-2. You start at 1-1
for each level.
If two rooms on the same floor have a '-' between them, that means you
can travel across those two screens. If they have an empty space, you cannot
travel across them. Sometimes there is an actual physical barrier, such as wall,
and sometimes you just will hit an invisible dead end.
When travelling up and down, | | means that there is two-way travel -
for example, that you can go from 1-2 to 2-2 and back from 2-2 up to 1-2. If,
however, a v or a ^ symbol is used, that means it is one-way travel: a v means
you can only go down, while a ^ means you can only go up.
Level 6 is a bit of an odd case, as some doors seem to move up or down
two levels. Even if you were denoted as starting at 2-1, this still is not
workable. |v| and |^| means there is a door that will take you down or up two
levels in that case.

After the initial scene at the beginning of the game, open your menu up
with the Start Button. Go to the right side of the screen, and highlight your
cursor over the Boot-shaped icon. Press the B button twice until the cursor
changes from the shape of a hand to your character's icon, which makes your
character 'wear' the item you are indicating, then double-tap with the A button.
This 'assigns' the boots permanently to your character, increasing his or her
jump.
Head right and jump using the A button over the water. If you fall in
the water, you will lose health at constant rate until you swim out onto dry
land again. Press and hold the B button to use your umbrella to slow your
descent and float over the water. This technique will be especially important
later on when crossing larger bodies of water.
1-2
---
The house in this area is an optional thing - if you go inside, you can
pay 34 gold to hear a couple of game hints. Otherwise, ignore the house. Do not
take too much time trying to avoid the enemies - just make a simple jump and
glide, do not panic if you take damage, and continue to the next screen.
1-3
---
Again, continue on, ignoring the enemies. Jump over the body of water
again and move into the next screen. There is another house that dispenses some
advice here, but only if you are playing as the female avatar.
1-4
---
There are three shops and an Inn in this screen. Enter the SECOND shop.
Move up to the leftmost of the three items (the item worth 260 Gold) to have it
show up on your top menu bar. Head right without examining the other two items
or backing away too far from the first item, and talk to the lady at the
counter.
This is one of the odder design choices in Woody Poko - you are, by
default, asked if you want to buy 10x of any item (or the maximum you can buy
with the money you currently have). For this item, called a 'Luc' by the game,
press the B button until the lady asks you if you want just '1' (1) ONE of them,
then press the A button to indicate yes and purchase it.
Do NOT go outside if you have an item in your top menu bar still. If you
do, your character will automatically run off with the item without paying,
resulting in him or her being a thief, and thus preventing you from using the
shops until you get rid of your Thief status by visiting a Slots machine area
and passing a trial.
Go outside, open the menu again. Bring your cursor over and highlight it
on the Luc item you just purchased. Press the B button twice to change the
cursor to your character avatar. Tap with the A button to wear it, and it shall
permanently expand your bag space from being able to carry 4 different slots of
items (where you can carry 10x of an item in each slot) up to a total of 16.
In the left of the two remaining shops, the Food Shop, purchase a couple
of loaves of 'Bread' (the left-most item), 10 Croissants, and 10 of the right-
most item, what the author calls the Bubble Seed (the characters for this
roughly translates to 'Real Baburu').
Now, equip either the Croissant or the Bubble Seed to your RIGHT Hand.
When you equip either of these and press the B button, you will be able to fire
it as a projectile weapon. The Croissant is fired straightforward in whichever
direction you are facing, while the Bubble Seed follows a short trajectory
upwards before coming back down. Personally, the author finds the Pebble Gun
more useful.
You can kill the pink Wolves, but not the grey zombie-like humanoids,
which will steal your money if they get close. Just stay away form screens with
the grey humanoids altogether, really. When you get enough EXP (a hidden value),
you level up, indicated by your screen flashing. Your HP doubles with every
level, so if you level up a couple of times you will go from 120 HP to 480 HP,
extraordinarily helpful.
Ignore the remaining shop for now in this area, and instead head right
to the next screen.
1-5
---
Enter the left shop. Inside here, buy 10 of the right item, Lanterns.
With these, when you have one equipped in your left hand, you can light up the
background in underground caves, making it significantly easier to travel
through the caverns.
If you go to the tree just right of the shop in here and press up
against it, some Gold Coins will roll out, along with some bats. This is about
the only way to really farm gold in this game on the chance you are playing on a
console as opposed to an emulator and so cannot abuse the Slots, and do not want
to use the password to start off with 60,000 Gold.
The other house on this screen is just an advice household.
Going back outside, head to the next screen.
1-6
---
Move around a little bit slowly and you should discover a hole in the
ground near the water. When you do, move to the right side of it, then move
left. You cannot hold B to hold up your ground and move at the same time, but be
prepared to hold B and the left button as soon as you get the screen change.
2-6
---
Hold B and Left for your character to move to the next screen. If you
have not already, also open up your item screen and put the Lantern in your LEFT
hand to light up the background.
2-5
---
Continue holding B and Left. You can stop either at the left edge of
this screen and then continue left when landed, or continue left while still
gliding in the air via your umbrella.
2-4
---
Go left and drop down the large hole right next to the water to move
down another level of the subterranean environment.
3-4
---
Once you have landed, move so you are positioned about slightly below
centre vertically and then make a running jump up and left, and hold B while
pressing left to move to the next screen.
3-3
---
Land on the first rock. If you miss, you need to quickly swim back to
the right and back onto solid land before you lose all your HP. Your character
will automatically be jumping up and down. If you are not lined up vertically
perfect with the chest, move back to 3-4 and go down a wee bit.
Once you are lined up properly, jump to grab the chest, which will give
you a pair of Jump Shoes. Continue left to the next screen.
3-2
---
Land on one of the rocks, then jump again, holding B and Left to move to
the next screen.
3-1
---
Land on solid ground, then take the LEFT hole in the floor down to the
lowest level of the Spring stage. Remember to equip the new pair of Jump Shoes
that you have to boost your jumping height.
4-1
---
Head right and jump and hold onto your umbrella, pushing right.
4-2
---
Continue flying right over the water cliffs.
4-3
---
Land on the ground and continue right.
4-4
---
Run right past the enemies.
4-5
---
Jump partways across the screen to go over the water, holding B to
glide.
4-6
---
Continue gliding through the screen.
4-7
---
Land on safe ground, then continue right to the next screen.
4-8
---
Grab the two bars of gold up top, but IGNORE the ones in the water as
those basically cannot be gotten. Glide right from here afterwards.
4-9
---
Continue to the next screen.
4-10
----
The door in here does not take you upstairs, but is rather where you can
play Slots. One Slots exists on each stage. After you pick up Gold bullion,
which does not reappear, and from pawning off items, Slots are the only way you
can make money in the game. Also, much like the shops, the Slot Machines are
only open from 9:00 to 20:00, if you cannot get past the door and are wondering
why.
After you are done here, return back to 4-1, up to 3-1, right to 3-4, up
to 2-4, right to 2-6, up to 1-6. Use the doors at the top of some of the screens
to go up a level.
1-6
---
Immediately de-equip your Lantern now (in the menu screen, change to
your Left Hand, press A on an empty space to de-equip it) so you do not waste
uses of it while idling outside.
Jump onto the right of the two left pillars, then jump up and start
gliding right.
1-7
---
Continue gliding right to the next screen.
1-8
---
You will be stopped by a large rock wall. Jump up from the top raised
ground area. The house in the middle is another clue house which gives advice on
reaching the boss of this level. Skip by it with a jump to the opposite wall,
then jump off to the right while gliding.
1-9
---
Drop down in front of the two stores here.
The left shop is a Pawn Shop, where you can offload unnecessary items
for gold.
In the right shop, you MUST buy the Secret Medicine, the bottle filled
with the red liquid on the right, as it is needed for the fourth level.
Once finished up here, head right to 1-10.
1-10
----
Jump onto the small raised outcrop to the north. Dash right and jump
into the sky and immediatelly press and hold B at the zenith of your jump.
1-11
----
Continue gliding right.
1-12
----
You may or may not have the height to get over the water cliff in the
middle. If you do, do so. If you do not, stop, and do not worry if you lose some
HP falling in the normal water as opposed to landing on the small strip of land
as that is preferable to dying by falling down the cliff.
Head over right again to the next screen.
1-13
----
Stand to the left of the colossal monster in here, and equip your Bubble
Seed. Shoot at him multiple times, and move away slowly as he approaches. After
he takes some damage, the monster will die, leaving behind a floating chest that
you can grab a Magic Pill from by touching it. Continue right afterwards.
1-14
----
Jump and glide to the right side of the screen. Look at the pond here.
Move to the bottom centre right above the rocky area between the two small
waterfalls to uncover a hole. Drop down the hole.
2-14
----
Hold B and push left to glide to the left area. Equip the lantern into
your hands from your menu screen.
2-13
----
Drop down past the water and continue left again.
2-12
----
Proceed left again to the next section.
2-11
----
Jump onto the raised outcropping of rock at the right end and ake the
hole down.
3-11
----
From where you land, go straight up just slightly to the back wall to
fall down another hole to the bottom level.
4-11
----
Press and hold B once the screen changes and glide to the right side.
4-12
----
Head right again to the next screen.
4-13
----
Jump onto the left rock pillar here, then make a running jump off right
and start gliding in the air.
4-14
----
Grab the Stopclock from the floating chest in here. Head left back from
here and return to Room 4-11, then upstairs to 3-11.
3-11
----
Head right to 3-12.
3-12
----
Jump and glide right to the next screen.
3-13
----
Drop down and pick up the four bars of gold for 60 Gold. Return to 3-11
from here, then up to 2-11, right to 2-14, and finally back up outside to 1-14.
1-14
----
Proceed right to the next screen.
1-15
----
Equip the Stopclock in your right hand, and walk past the floating heads
(which official name is 'Tree of the Sun'). Do not actually press the A button,
just walk past and the Stopclock will automaatically activate. Jump right to the
next screen.
1-16
----
BEFORE LEAVING: Did you remember to buy the Secret Medicine from the ???
Shop on 1-9?
Although you can finish the level off by going off the right side of the
screen, there is also the opportunity to make some more gold. If you go to
underneath where the tall wall is, and walk around the left side, you should
discover a small hole. Take it down several floors to 4-16 to find 60 Gold. The
holes are one-way with no way back up, so go to 4-15 for 60 more Gold, then up
to 3-15 for another 60 Gold (180 in total for the trip).
From there, head left to 3-14, and drop down to 4-14, which is where you
got the Stopclock. Then you can go around back up to 1-14.
Head right and exit out the right end of the screen. After a brief
conversation, you will move to the next level, the Summer level.

You may notice Summer has only 3 tiers to it. This and every other stage
except for Spring only has three floors. Also, the bottom floor is not an
'underground' floor, as trippy as that is.

Head right to the next screen.
1-2
---
Stock up if you need to at the food shop here on weapons. A useful item
to get from the Food Shop is the Salt Bag, which has unlimited uses. You get a
full heal between stages so you need not go to the Inn right now except to run
the clock up quicker to 9:00.
The head enemies in this stage are pretty dangerous, as they take off
about 250HP every time they contact you, so stay out of the way until you level
up enough that 250HP is not so significant.
Continue to the next screen.
1-3
---
Jump up onto the pillars and hop off the last one, gliding right.
1-4
---
Continue gliding over the water and stop once you get to the land. Just
to the right of where the water terminates, to the left of the raised ground,
there will be a hidden hole to the middle just pressing against the raised
ground. Take it down while moving from the left side so you have momentum
falling in.
2-4
---
Press and hold the B button and Right button so you do not fall into a
fatal water cliff. After you land, make sure to equip the Lantern to your left
hand. Head right to the next screen with a short jump and glide.
2-5
---
Land on solid ground, then quickly swim in and out to get 60 Gold. Head
back to 2-4. Next, jump up and go to the left side of that screen to the next
room.
2-3
---
Drop to the right of the right pond, and run up and down the side of
this pond to find a hidden hole, dropping down to the next screen.
3-3
---
You will land in an outdoor environment again, so yes, you go outdors
down to an underground down to an outdoor area again with the floors on this
level. If you wanted to make your way back up, you need to use the door in the
tree here. Make sure to de-equip your Lantern, and head right to the next
screen.
3-4
---
Continue right again to the next screen. You may notice a tree with a
door here - this is NOT a real exit up a floor, rather it is a private house
that dispenses advice from 9:00 to 20:00.
3-5
---
Hop onto the middle raised ground, and jump right and off, gliding
through the air to the next room.
3-6
---
Stay at the inn if you need to once landing, otherwise, continue right
again.
3-7
---
Jump and glide over the large expanse of water onwards to the next area.
3-8
---
Move over to where the grey pirate-zombie enemy thing is, making sure
you are at least Level 4 first with 960HP, and that you have at least around
750HP right now. The pirate-zombie thing will move back as you approach him, up
until his back is to the right end of the screen. When you get in close enough,
start shooting your Bubble Seeds at him. It will take a ridiculous number of
hits, at least 10 seconds on the in-game clock, before he goes down.
When he is defeated, a flying chest will be left behind. Grab the flying
chest for a Key that is inside, which can be Pawned off for Gold as the author
does not believe there is any requirement for a generic Key anymore in the game.
Head right onto the next screen once finished.
3-9
---
Take the door on the tree here to go up a level. Going right to 3-10 and
3-11 will bring you to the slot machines at 3-11 for the Summer stage (again, it
needs to be between 9:00 and 20:00 to go play Slots). 3-10 includes an advice
house.
2-9
---
Reequip your Lantern, then head right a screen.
2-10
----
Jump and glide over the water pit and head over to the next area.
2-11
----
Take the 60 Gold by picking up the bullion, then head up a floor via the
door.
1-11
----
Deequip your Lantern, then head right again.
1-12
----
Jump right over the water pit and continue again to the next screen.
1-13
----
You can go to the treehouse and sell off any items you do not need, or
head to the Inn to heal up. Afterwards, continue right again.
1-14
----
Hop right past the water, ignoring the dragon here. Apparently, however,
it can be killed, using alcohol from the 3-4 Shoes Shop, leaving behind a
Wrapper item that the author believes is supposed to give you unlimited use with
your weapons. If you have any information regarding this, please shoot him an
email using the email address at the bottom of this guide.
1-15
----
Land on the dry ground and take the hole down a floor.
2-15
----
Immediately press and hold B and left to drift to the next screen. Make
certain to equip your Lantern.
2-14
----
Continue left pass the enemies onto the next screen.
2-13
----
Drop down here and grab the four blocks of Gold. Continue left
afterwards.
2-12
----
Take the bottom-left of the three holes on the ground to go down another
floor.
3-12
----
Press and hold B and glide right. Be certain to de-equip your Lantern.
3-13
----
Continue moving right again to the next section of the map.
3-14
----
Hop onto the owl. Your character will automatically cling to its talons,
and it will start carrying you over the long lake.
3-15
----
Once you get to about the middle of this screen, press and hold the B
button and Right button. When the owl lets go of you automatically, you should
be able to glide again to the next screen.
3-16
----
You can technically take the door up to 2-16, then another door up to 1-
1-16, pass over to 1-15, and go past the wall from the right side (you will
bounce back trying to pass through it from the left side). This just seems to be
a recursive way to get back to the top floor without giving you any items or
Gold, so just head off-screen to the right to finish the level.

3-5

2-4

Head left.
2-3

Drop down one of the holes in here to the floor below.
3-3

Grab the 60 Gold in here, then continue left.
3-2
---
Jump at the Flying chest in here to grab a Jewelry Box, then continue
west.
3-1
---
Jump across the water, and grab the four bullions of Gold for 60 Gold.
Head upstairs.
2-1
---
The door here does NOT take you upstairs. Rather, this is the slots
machine place for this level, which once again is only open from 9:00 to 20:00
and has a maximum bet of 200 Gold.
Once you are done in this room, head right 5 rooms back to 2-6.
2-6
---
Drop back down to 3-6 via the hole in between the river and pond (again,
it is hidden).
3-6
---
Head right a screen once you drop down.
3-7
---
Ignore the rock pillar here that can take you up and instead proceed
right.
3-8
---
Continue right to the next screen.
3-9
---
Again continue right.
3-10
----
Take the one-way door in this screen up a floor.
2-10
----
Move into the pond to touch the fairy sprite, and your screen should
start flashing. Once the fairy has disappeared, use the platform you came in on
as a toehold to jump onto the high platform your left. Jump again and hold the B
button to glide to the left.
2-9
---
Continue gliding left across this screen to the next.
2-8
---
Land on dry ground and take the door here to go up to the top level.
1-8
---
Back outside, head right a screen. Going left two screens to 1-6 shall
also take you to the Miscellaneous shop and an advice house.
1-9
---
Stop off at the Inn here if you must, and sell off whatever you do not
need at the Pawn Shop. Once finished up on this screen, continue right to 1-10
by jumping and gliding over the water pit.
1-10
----
Head over to the centre of the screen where the sword in the stone is.
To pull the sword out, you need to jump on top of the rock, and your jump eneds
to be pixel-perfect to actually pick it up. Continue right to the next screen
once you have gotten the sword in your right hand.
1-11
----
Go to the rock pillar in the centre and press Up against it to head down
a floor.
2-11
----
Move right onto dry land and move up and down on the left side to head
down to the third floor.
3-11
----
Head right to the next screen.
3-12
----
Continue right some more.
3-13
----
In this area, grab the floating chest for Speed Shoes, and be sure to
get yourself the 30 Gold around as well. Afterwards, return left and upstairs a
floor to 2-11.
2-11
----
Head right and jump, gliding over the water through the next screen.
2-12
----
Continue gliding and land down on dry land before continuing to the next
room.
2-13
----
Make another jump and glide over the water pit and head off to the next
screen.
2-14
----
Hop onto one of the raised pillars on the left side of the room, then
leap and glide to the raised floor on the right side to advance.
2-15
----
Dash right, dropping down to the lower ground floor and continue right.
2-16
----
Drop down the hole in the water right below the waterfall to the floor
below.
3-16
----
Once you have landed, head left into the next area.
3-15
----
Continue left.
3-14
----
When you move into this room, STOP MOVING, and do not touch your
controls at all. Face left. The 'boss' enemy here will kill you if you try to
attack it or touch it at all. However, if you stand still and face it for
several hours on the in-game clock, it will eventually disappear on its own
leaving behind a floating chest. The chest holds a Piece of Ice.
Afterwards, return to 3-16, then head up to 2-16, run, jump and glide
all the way left to 2-11, and take the door up to 1-11.
1-11
----
Hop off and glide right to the next area.
1-12
----
Jumping over the rivers, jump off at the right end of the screen and
continue gliding right.
1-13
----
Make a landing on dry ground, then do a short glide over to the right
side, and continue over a screen.
1-14
----
Proceed right another screen over the water or use the pillars at the
top part of the area.
1-15
----
Hop up onto the high triangular-shaped piece of high ground and continue
right again, gliding through the screen.
1-16
----
Ignore the creature on the ground and instead jump up onto the upper-
left pillar. Fly over to the right end and proceed right off-screen to wrap up
the level.

Hop up onto the central pillar and drop down to the other side. Jump and

Make use of the Miscellaneous shop or the advice house in here (though
you must pay money) if you need to, but otherwise jump and glide again to the
next screen.
1-3

You will notice a person sitting on the ground at the start here.
Helping him get water is part of what you must do during this stage. Continue

1-4
---
Move slightly down and right of where the giant snowman in the
background is to locate a hole.
2-4

Once you drop down, equip your Lantern in your left hand. Collect the
two bullions of gold on the dry land for 30 Gold. After, jump and glide to the
next screen.
2-3
---
Continue gliding left some more.
2-2
---
Land on the central platform, and stand next to where the purple red-
thing is.
Open up your inventory screen. Hopefully you purchased at least one
Secret Medicine from an earlier stage. If you did not, you can go to 1-11 (just
continue right from 1-4 for several screens until you see a shop with the ? icon
on it).
'Wear' the Secret Medicine and then press A again to remove it from your
person back into your inventory, this time creating an empty bottle. The Secret
Medicine is specifically the glass bottle with the red liquid with no 'arms' on
it like a pitcher would. Once you have the empty bottle, equip it into your LEFT
hand. Walk over the purple object to fill your bottle up, then reequip the
Lantern.
Return to 2-4 afterwards.

From here, if you want, you can travel three screens right, and drop
down the hole on top of the raised ground down to 3-7. Here, you can get a
Stopclock from a flying chest. From there, you can go to 3-2, which contains an
Inn, Food Shop and Pawn Shop, and to 3-1, with 30 Gold in bullion. After, return
up to 2-4 via the door on 3-4.
Otherwise, head back up to the top floor.
1-4
---
Up here, reequip the bottle into your left hand that you just grabbed
the purple object with, then head left to the prior screen.
1-3
---
Land on the dry ground to the left and contact the guy sitting down. The
screen should flash if you do this successfully. Again, have your bottle
equipped, and in your left hand. Once finished, return right.
1-4
---
Hop onto the raised ground, then jump off and glide right.
1-5
---
Land on the right side of the screen and continue walking right.
1-6
---
Hop onto the centre pillar and glide over to the next screen.
1-7
---
Continue right across the puddles of water to the next screen.
1-8
---
Drop down on the dry ground to the right side of the lake. Head right
three screens to purchase a Ticket from the ??? Shop, then come back to this
screen.
Equip your Lantern into your left hand, then swim in and drop down the
right-most hole in the water.
2-8
---
Press and hold B once you get the screen change, then glide down
slightly right to land on safe ground. Jump right a few platforms, and walk
slowly to the next screen.
2-9
---
Jump up at the start, and glide all the way to the opposite end of the
screen and into the next area.
2-10
----
Take the pillars of increasing height up and leap off, holding B to
glide into the next room.
2-11
----
Land on safe ground to the right of the puddle. Move up and down the
right end of the land part of this room to drop down to the next floor.
3-11
----
Glide slightly to the right to avoid falling into a water pit. If you go
left from this screen, you can get a Wings Medicine from a floating chest at 3-9
by hopping across several platforms. Moving further west takes you to 3-8, where
ths Slots machine for this stage is located.
Otherwise, head right to continue on with the main portion of the game.
3-12
----
Hop over the small rivers and take the door at the right side to go up a
floor.
2-12
----
After temporarily reequipping your Lantern, grab the three available
blocks of Gold bullion in here for 45 gold, then head through the left door in
here to go back up to the top floor.
1-12
----
De-equip your Lantern, then proceed to jump over both the water pit and
the lake onto the next screen.
1-13
----
Get past the penguin enemies and then make another running jump and
glide to the next area.
1-14
----
Land down on the landmass in the centre. Use the inn if you must, then
jump onto the centre pillar here. Make a running dash right before hopping off,
and immediately press B while continuing to hold the Right button to glide to
the next screen.
1-15
----
Settle down on the surface to the far right side of this map, then
continue to the next and final part of the top floor.
1-16
----
Equip the Piece of Ice from the previous stage into your Left Hand. If
you did not obtain the Piece of Ice, you can do this screen still, but it gets a
lot trickier, as a giant penguin will be blowing at you from the right side of
the screen, pushing you back.
Run right a ways. Just slightly south and left of where the large
snowman in the background is, you should uncover a hidden hole. Drop down to the
lower floor.
2-16
----
You will have a safe landing even without moving, so do not worry about
needing to glide. Equip your Lantern after you safely land. Make a running jump
left and start gliding to the next screen.
2-15
----
Land on the ground to the left side. You MUST land, not just continue
gliding. Make another running jump left so you are up in the air before leaving
the screen.
2-14
----
Fall down to the ground where the three blocks of Gold are for 45 Gold,
then make another jump up and glide left.
2-13
----
Once you get onto the dry landmass to the left, move into the hole
approaching from the LEFT side.
3-13
----
Immediately start pressing right once you come in so you do not
accidentally contact a penguin enemy and take damage (or worse, die). Once you
get down below, make a running jump right and glide onwards.
3-14
----
Get onto the dry land in the middle, and take some advice from a
grandmother in the house here if you wish before jumping and gliding right
again.
3-15
----
Drop down to the ground once you get past the water pit, then continue
right again.
3-16
----
BEFORE LEAVING: Did you remember to pick up a Ticket from the ??? Shop
on 1-11? This is MANDATORY to complete the next stage. While it is still
possible to get one on the next stage, it is also possible that you may screw
yourself over and have to restart the game.
Walk over to the opposite side of the screen and head off-screen to
finish the level. If, of course, you did not do the quest of feeding the person
on 1-3 the water, you will have a more difficult time of it as a big witch will
apparently be flying around.

As mentioned repeatedly before, you must have a Ticket in order to
complete this stage. If you do not, you must proceed all the way to 1-16 in
order to head to the Mail Order shop and order a Ticket, waiting several days.
Fortunately, 1-16 is the same area you need to go to in order to use
your Ticket, so all you have to worry about is raising 3504 Gold for the Ticket
(of course, this price tag is half that, or 1752 Gold, if you are playing as the
Girl). There is a Pawn Shop on 1-2. If you do not have sufficient money still
after visiting the place, because the Slots machine is not accessible without a
ticket, you can steal an item, specifically a Helmet from the Miscellaneous
Shop, also on 1-2, then pawn it.
If you have Secret Medicine, Wear it after becoming a Thief, and you can
go back into the shop while under the effects of the Secret Medicine and steal
another Helmet.
Of course, if you still cannot get up to 3504 Gold, then you are
basically screwed and have to restart the game.
1-1
---
Walk right from the start to get to the next screen.
1-2
---
Pawn, buy, and steal items as necessary from the Pawn Shop and
Miscellaneous Shop in this screen, then jump over the small river and continue
onwards.
1-3
---
Hop onto the highest raised ground to the left, then make a running dash
right and start gliding once you hit the zenith of your jump and move to the
next screen.
1-4
---
Continue gliding through an entirely water-filled area.
1-5
---
Land on top of the pillar to the left side of the screen. Jump over to
the right side and down to the ground before continuing.
1-6
---
Run along the lower side of the screen to get to the opposite end and
onto 1-7.
1-7
---
Jump off from the middle and start gliding to the right.
1-8
---
Get over the middle wall and drop down before continuing your eastwards
journey.
1-9
---
Continue walking across the enemy-free screen.
1-10
----
Leap up onto the middle wall, then jump up from there and start gliding
to the right again.
1-11
----
In this area, land on the top pillar, then make another jump and glide
some more going right.
1-12
----
Land on the left wall here. Use it as a launching pad to continue
gliding right.
1-13
----
Glide as far right as you can to the next screen.
1-14
----
Continue gliding once you make another jump for height to skip over all
the water and other obstacles in the way.
1-15
----
Head right another screen for the last time on this floor.
1-16
----
If you neglected to pick up a Ticket in an earlier level, head to the
right storefront between the hours of 9:00 and 20:00. Inside, talk to the lady
at the counter and press Up or Down until you get the Ticket to show up (it is a
rectangulra piece of paper, and it will cost 3504 Gold specifically) and accept
the price.
Exit back outside, and stay right at the entrance to the shop. From that
position, the spectre flying around and shooting out pellets cannot harm you.
Wait for a couple of in-game days, then head back into the shop to receive your
Ticket.
Once you have the Ticket, head up to the gate in the middle of this
screen. Equip the Ticket onto your LEFT hand, then press up against the gate to
go down a floor.
2-16
----
Head left a screen from the gates.
2-15
----
Continue walking left to the next section of the second floor.
2-14
----
Make a running jump to glide over the lake and towards the next area.
2-13
----
Progress left along the ground further.
2-12
----
Keep in mind this screen with the statue for later. For now, hop over
the small pond and move left again.
2-11
----
Walk left and to the next screen again.
2-10
----
Make use of the Inn here if needed. Pick up at least two bottles of
Secret Medicine here as you will need it for the final stage. Otherwise,
continue walking west some more.
2-9
---
Walk past the shops and left to the next screen.
2-8
---
Continue on your leftwards march.
2-7
---
Proceed past the tower again to the next area (do not press Up against
the Tower as this is a one-way trip up to 1-7, and you would need to go all the
way around to 1-16 again to get back down).
2-6
---
Jump and glide across the large pond and continue.
2-5
---
Progress again to the next area.
2-4
---
Repeat heading west.
2-3
---
Head left and jump onto the train in the tracks in the background. After
about fifteen to twenty seconds, it will start moving. It will carry you all the
way to 2-6.
2-6
---
The train will stop off at the STOP sign here. Disembark, and then
return right a total of two screens to 2-8.
2-8
---
Head right along the top of the screen, right under the bushes. You
should locate a hidden hole that you can drop down to the floor below through.
3-8
---
If you head two screens right from here, you can visit the Slot Machines
in 3-10. Otherwise, head left a screen.
3-7
---
Grab the 60 Gold in this area, then proceed left some more.
3-6
---
Continue marching left.
3-5
---
Again proceed left, and make a note of the door in this room.
3-4
---
Progress further left.
3-3
---
Grab the 60 Gold sitting on the floor, then proceed left again.
3-2
---
Head left and jump at the chest for a Key, then move left to the last
screen in this direction.
3-1
---
Take the 60 Gold on the floor here, then return four screens to 3-5.
Take the door here to go up a floor.
2-5
---
Backtrack a total of seven screens to the right, where there is the
statue of a head in the background.
2-12
----
Head to the right side of the bush. Wander around in front of the middle
bush to locate a hidden hole, and take it to proceed down another floor.
3-12
----
Grab the 60 Gold in the form of blocks here, then equip your Lantern
into your left hand. Move left a screen.
3-11
----
Run left and jump into the air to contact the flying chest, grabbing a
Crystal Ball. Return to 3-12, then run over into 3-13.
3-13
----
Dash past the cohort of enemies in this area.
3-14
----
Continue on past the next batch of monsters.
3-15
----
In this room, you will see a sort of giant orange blob monster,
apparently called a Ball Boy. You must defeat it for a vital item in the next
stage.
To kill it, stand to the top or bottom of it, NOT to its sides. The Ball
Boy does not apparently ever bounce up or down, merely left and right. As a
result, you can just stand above or below it and spam your weapon fire as it
falls down. The Ball Boy has five stages - as it takes more and more damage, it
will continously shrink. After you defeat its tiny form, a floating chest will
be left behind.
Contact the chest for the Skeleton Key, then head right.
3-16
----
BEFORE LEAVING: Did you remember to pick up at least two bottles of
Secret Medicine from the ??? Shop on 2-10?
Grab the 60 Gold here before heading right and off-screen to wrap this
area up.

If you are using the Kn-BOX website's maps, the map starts at 3-1 and
moves up. The text map here follows the standard convention for the prior five
stages, putting your starting room at 1-1.
The Castle is a little bit of a maze, with some doors that appear to
skip up or down two floors instead of one (marking your starting point as '2-1'
would not work in making a sensible map, either). Those that jump two floors are
indicated by |v| and |^|.

Proceed right a screen from the beginning of the stage.
1-2
---
Continue on right.
1-3
---
Head right further still.
1-4
---
The Pawn Shop and Mail Delivery store are to your right on 1-5 (there
are no 'doors' for them, so you need to press up against the Shop icons to
enter). If you have no business, take the door in this room down a floor.
2-4
---
Head right a screen.
2-5
---
Continue right to the next screen.
2-6
---
Take the door in here to go down a floor.
3-6

Take the opposite door in this room to go up two floors (the author
realises that is a bit disjarring).
1-6

Continue right a room.
1-7
---
Continue right another room still.
1-8

Stick to your rightwards path for a ways still.
1-9

Take the door here down a level.
2-10

Go left a room.
2-9

Take the door in this room up a level.
2-11
----
Continue moving right once you get back up to the second floor.
2-12
----
Head right again.
2-13
----
Take the door here to go up back to the top floor.
1-13
----
Head right a room.
1-14
----
Equip the Skeleton Key that you should have gotten from the Ball Boy
from the previous level into your left hand, and you can pass through the wall
to the next section.
1-15
----
In this room, you will fight another boss, who actively fights back.
Head to the right side of the room, jump up and press against the wall to land
on a small ledge up top that is nearly invisible. This is not a totally safe
spot: however, you can fire at the boss while it is floating around without
having to constantly jump and aim, and it only occasionally hits you from the
top vantage point, as opposed to taking damage all the time.
Once you have dealt sufficient damage to the boss, it will turn into a
spider-like creature. Drop down. It will come to you and cause contact damage,
but nowhere near as great as all the regular enemies in this stage. Continue
spamming weapon fire at it. When the boss is finally defeated, it will leave
behind a floating chest.
Contact the floating chest for the King's Key, then return left to 1-13.
1-13
----
Proceed left a screen.
1-12
----
Go down two floors via the door here.
3-12
----
Head right to the next area.
3-13
----
Open your menu screen and Wear a bottle of Secret Medicine. While you
have temporary immunity to damage, quickly run past the projectile-shooting
machines in here and towards the next screen.
3-14
----
Continue right again to the next area.
3-15
----
Equip the King's Key into your left hand that you should have received
in 1-15, then head towards 3-16.
3-16
----
Walk up to the girl in here and touch her, and she will start following
you. Backtrack to 3-12, making sure to Wear another Secret Medicine again to get
past the projectiles on 3-13, then head up to 1-12.
1-12
----
Go left a room.
1-11
----
Take the door here to exit the castle and finish this stage and the
game.

game, except the Japanese password screen has Japanese characters instead of
Roman letters. The translation patch merely replaced the characters with
letters, making it easier to write it in.
For the actual Japanese password, go to this page:
