I wrote this walkthrough entirely while playing through the game, my goal
was to be able to have a full walkthrough of the game out so people could
enjoy it from start to finish and not get stuck. my goal was not to have
the prettiest guide out there, the biggest guide or the most complete guide
also, i wrote this in wordpad so I dont have spell check or automatic
capitalization or any of that other nice stuff that word has and there's no
way that I'm going to go back and make sure that everything is capitalized
or spelled correctly. besides, i think I'm a pretty good speller even if I
am lazy with capitalization.
some things to keep in mind while playing:
Don't worry about leveling up, once you hit level 4 and get Mez just play
the game, you won't have to grind anymore.
Money is easy to come by, buy the best equipment that you can afford
you are going to get WAY more items than you will ever need/use. I would
toss everything except for the MP restoring items incase you ever need to
use them. (for the record, I don't think I ever used any items besides a
potion here or there in the beginning of the game)
Don't bother with Idols or Mercs unless you really want to - you don't have
to use them at all if you don't want to - i never did.
Tusk and Laman are essential spells, don't forget about them, they will
make your life so much easier
don't ask me how to revive a character, i dont know, no one ever died in my
playthrough (pretty wild for an NES RPG) this game isn't all that difficult
On with the walkthrough!!
Arkasas
Name your character and you will begin in Arkasas with your advisor,Frol
talking to you about the world, Minelvaton and the lands beyond it. He
tells you that you must undergo a trial to become the "Warrior of the Gods"
and to do that you need to pass through a cave in the north and find the
town of Shibai. Now, go upstairs and talk to the queen to get 300 gold and
an Idol of Earth. Now the king will let you leave the castle.
In town I would buy a knife and a leather helm and speak to the child in
the upper right yellow house to get a letter for his grandpa in Roland,
Old Mon. Now, go out and begin leveling up. A note about idols though, your
idol of earth is pretty strong and good to use if you think you may die but
if you do use it the idol gets all the experience and your character
doesn't get any. However, Idols do level up with the experience they gain
- so its your call if you want to use them or not. I leveled up to 7, but
that might be excessive - just make sure you learn Mez at level 4. then
head east to Roland.
Roland
explore the town, talk to people etc. then give the letter to Old Mon, in
exchange for this you get your next party member, Yulat - a strong warrior!
Now go north and speak to the priest about the Temple of Thor - he says
that it is past the southern desert and gives you a password, thankfully,
the game memorizes the password for you. Now, head around the mountains and
south to the Temple of Thor
Temple of Thor
speak to everyone and the head priest will tell you to visit all the stone
monuments and offer a charm at each of them. I'm sure you've seen the
monuments by now, they are the silver things that look like the letter Y.
search each monument to offer the charm then go back and talk to the head
priest guy and he has Mahat join you and gives you permission to pass over
the Latonian Road. (the bridge near Arkasas)
Once you have permission to pass over the bridge I would upgrade equiptment
give Yulat a Rusty Axe and Mahat a sling, your Hero can either get a dagger
for a +3 bonus from the Knife or the much more expensive Rapier for a +28
bonus from the knife. Go for the Rapier, it will be awhile before the Hero
gets a good weapon. Go ahead and go into the northern cave. Make sure you
save first because the monsters in here are alot tougher than those outside
but there are alot of really good treasures you should probably pick up.
Cave of Departure
go in this cave and collect the following treasures: scale helm, potion,
blast ball, scale armor, idol of star. also note the locked door and rock
blocking the exit. by the time you leave here you will probably be around
level 10. Now head to the Latonian Road.
Latonian Road
pass through and then go down to the castle.
Mountain Castle
Go down the right staircase and follow the path. here you will find the
the Idol of lake and the scale shield then talk to Morin the mage. Mahat
leave but will give all his skills to Morin and they look exactly the same
so I don't really see a point in having to replace Mahat - Morin should
have just taught Mahat how to move the rock.. but I digress..
Anyways, leave his little bedroom and head up the nearby staircase. Follow
the path and the various staircases here to find an Earth Prayer, a potion,
power dust and another potion. the staircase down out of the throne room
leads out of the castle - how convienent!
now when you go back through the Latonian Road Bock will trade places with
Yulat.. whatever, I really don't see the point in all this changing party
members when the new member has exactly the same skills as the old one.
Head for the cave of departure.
Cave of Departure
go through the cave, reopening the treasures because for whatever reason
all the chests respawned. give Bock all the scale equiptment then go to
where you previously saw a rock blocking the exit. Morin will remove it,
now leave... if you want to you can go back into the cave and get the
treasures all over again - I wonder if this is a bug because of the patch
or if this was in the original japanese game... interesting. Head to the
town, Memol
Memol
rest, save, talk, leave.
Now head to Adol castle in the east.
Adol castle
Buy Morin a bow and all three of them full sets of copper armor. Now speak
to, Milon, man in the big house above the item shop. he asks you to rescue
hisdaughter in the wind tower. Time for another switch - Morin becomes Maru
now and Milon gives you a crown. Now go to the castle, talk to the king and
give him the crown, he then gives you a golden needle. Now leave Adon and
head to the bridges to the west and follow them around until you reach
another town, Beta.
Beta
talk to everyone and give lloyd the golden needle in exchange for a canoe.
leave and head west to the tower of wind.
Tower of Wind
Just so we are all on the same page, by this time my characters were level
19. Head in and follow the linear path finding a potion, an Earth prayer,
an idol of wind, a silver dagger and a mixture. Lisa and Bock will swap and
then give the silver dagger to Lisa. pick up a whip and continue along the
path until you find light dust. Now cast Tusk to escape and Lamun to return
to Adol.
Talk to Milon and Lisa and Bock will swap again, get the scepter and give
it to the king to get the wind tower key. go back to the wind tower and
follow the linear path until you get to a red door, use the key there. If
you want you can get all the treasures again to sell later - I can't
believe that this bug got through beta testing!
Now, on the other side of the tower of wind follow the path north then west
through the desert to Tolan.
Tolan
you are mainly here to update your equiptment - they sell really good stuff
here so buy as much as you can afford then make your way out of the desert
and head north through the mountains until you find another town, Fort
Altoga.
Fort Altoga
here talk to everyone, Elban and Bock will swap. Leave from the eastern
gate and go into the valley.
Valley
get the mixture here then go right to leave. go into the town here.
Loss
talk to Gus and get the ore, return to Altoga, give the ore to smith and
he will make you the sage mirror, which he says to use in Bandol town, not
Bandol Castle. Return back to Loss and go through the next mountain you
haven't gone through yet.
Mountain
Here go left to get the fairy ball then go back right, follow the linear
path and leave. Head north to Bandol.
Bandol
upon entering use /the mirror, rest up, save then head for the castle. Go
to the basement to fight your first boss fight! don't bother casting any
attack magic, Badr is immune to it. just pound away healing when you need
to. I didn't need to heal at all, go through the linear maze (how does this
game manage to make a maze linear?) and talk to the king, rest then go back
and talk to the king again to get the thistle. Return to Tolan.
Tolan
finishing updating your equiptment here and talk to the king. leave and
head southwest to the Temple of Zuhl.
Temple of Zuhl
well, this is the first dungeon that at least attempts to have multiple
pathways. if you head south from the entrance and north at the first fork
you'll encounter a staircase that leads to a useless potion, so skip the
fork and keep heading west up the stairs. Go west to a fossil helm, this
is worse than the iron helm, then south to a blast ball then east to a
stairwell and a longbow now go back upstairs and west along the perimeter
of the tower, keep following the path to a staircase going up.
sigh.. this would be much nicer if the treasure was worth it.. anyways,
follow the long path right for a (wait for it..) Potion!! go down for a
siren's tear, pass the staircase and get a fossil armor (why is the armor
found in treasures worse than the armor sold in town?) then go back to the
stairs and go down. follow this path to fight Ragon, one of Zuhl's princes.
just fight and heal if your HP falls below 100. now leave and head to the
next dungeon.
Veil of delusion
Here you can find a Lilia's claw, light stone and a wind prayer. head left
to exit but make sure that you get the light stone which is a bit north
of the exit. now head north.
here the oracle will tell you to collect 3 holy relics of light. talk to
everyone here including the statue then head south to endel, hopefully we
can get a ship soon!
in this next valley you can find mixture and powerdust. leave and go to
Endel.
Endel
for such a big town there seems to be no one here.. anyways, talk to what
few people are here then shop, and you will soon see where you have to go.
Head south to the Manus Temple.
Manus Temple
talk to everyone and explore for a dream shard. seems now we need to find
a wizard named Tanlaw and we now know the names of the 3 holy relics, the
light sword, ligtht armor and light shield - pity we can't equip them.
Ok, once you've finished exploring leave and hop in your nifty canoe - sail
east towards Yohoi.
Yohoi
talk to everyone and you will find that Tanlaw is in
the rock cave to the north. well then, back to the canoe and sail north
to the cave!
Rock Cave
navigate the passages to find a silver rapier then head to the southeast
corner to find the next path further into the cave. get the revive here
then go examine the rock. use the light stone here and Tanlaw will appear
do the swap then outside/return.
Endel
go down and talk to Ena's father, Tanlaw will break Ena's curse and you
will now have a ship! Head south and a bit east and you will reach Altena.
Altena
talk to everyone, notice the equipment - its really starting to get
expensive. DO NOT buy any of the weapons here, they are total rip-offs and
you will get better stuff soon enough, focus on buying the steel armor. now
Head south of town to find the first of many island caves.
Island cave 1
On the first floor find the gorgon's fang, go down the middle staircase to
get a long spear and the upper staircase to get an Idol of Lore. In order
to allow the Idol to fit you may have to go back to town and combine some
of your Idols - if you use them at all, if not, just leave the idols there.
Now go down the bottom staircase and follow the path to an Earth prayer. We
can't open the chest that's down the upper staircase just yet so go down
the lower one. On this floor you can find Gula's Heart, Mixture, and light
dust. Now, go fight Edda - she's a joke, just attack. Now go to that
treasure you couldn't get before to find a sword piece 1. Leave the cave
and go west to find the next island cave.
Island Cave 2
on the first floor find a Sun Ax, Gula's Heart, and an idol of soul.
on the second floor find a revive, an unopenable chest, the shining sword
and a Manus' Heart. When you get all that go down and fight Agora. He can
be dangerous, he casts Calm+ and Fire+ so make sure you have someone
healing when need be, however, he will soon run out of MP and when that
happens just attack. Now get the sword piece 3 from the previously
unopenable chest. leave. head west to island cave 3.
Island Cave 3
On the first floor find mixture, light dust and Idol of Sky, head down.
On this floor you can find a prayer card, an unopenable chest to the far
west and speed dust. Now go fight Arames, make sure to loook out for her
powerful Torna spell. Once she's toast get that chest for a Sword piece 2
and get out of here.
Return back to Arkasas and talk to Doid in the eastern-most house, he will
repair the fatal sword for you now go back to Altena and give the fatal
sword to Zabal. Zabal now joins. Jump in your ship and head due north then
follow the coastline west until you see an inlet - this is Kraken bay.
fight the Kraken and when shes gone just head south to find the village of
Anan.
Anan
talk to everyone and talk to granny in the house, she gives you the prayer
Key!!! woo hoo! lets go open up those locked doors! warp to Arkasas castle
and open the door to find the light shield. now go to Roland and go in the
northernmost house to find the Light Armor, and now to the cave of
departure (north of Arkasas) to find the Light Sword. Ok, now leave the
cave and pass the latonian road, keep going as if you are heading to the
mountain casle but once you hit the bridge go right and board your ship.
now head due north, you should see the Taj.. oh wait, I mean the pantheon.
Pantheon
speak to the three gods and become the warrior of light! pay careful
attention to what the last God tells you and head east in your ship. It
took me a LONG time to find Dolun, as you are sailing around in the sea you
will encounter a multitude of islands and many towers that you can not
enter, just make note of their positions. if you encounter a whirlpool,
Dolun is to the Southwest of it. If you see a big island with a long bridge
on it be sure to go and enter the cave. you can't really go inside but it
will be added to your return list as "door cave". All 4 towers that you
will need to eventually enter center around door cave, so you will be
returning here often. Dolan is to the Northwest of Kraken
Bay. When you FINALLY find it, enter.
here's a little map
Dolun whirlpool
Red t.
black t. door white t.
cave
blue t.
i know its crude, but it gets the job done.
Dolun
talk to everyone and get the black key, buy a brand for your mage, rest up
and teleport to door cave then head west to the black tower. use the black
key to enter at night.
Black Tower
ok, this place is like one big game of chutes and ladders - that being said
though, its really not that hard to navigate. I'll list the treasures you
can find here - some of them are actually pretty good!
power ring, fairy ball, Lilia's claw, prayer card, idol of dark, fortune
sand, savage shield (good for tanlaw), Light dust, fortune sand
Your main goal here though is to get the Red Key and the Aulon Pot, once
you have those leave here and head to red tower, which is north of door
cave.
red tower
ok, if you can't enter any of these towers just keep walking back and forth
over it until it gets darker/lighter - it needs to be a specific time of
day to enter. I'll do the same thing here that i did for the black tower.
by the way, my guys are all level 41 at the moment of entering the tower,
if anyone cares.
Items i found here included: savage helm, prayer card, luck dust, siren's
tear, fortune sand, lilia's claw and earth prayer.
get the Aulon pipe and the white key, now go back to door cave, and head
east to get to white tower.
white tower
items i found: amulet, earth prayer, speed dust, dragon eye, wind clothes,
and relax.
the key to getting the real treasures you need in this tower is to take the
Northeast stairwell, that will lead you to the breath potion and the blue
key. once you have those head south from door cave to the blue tower.
blue tower
enter this tower at dawn.
items to find: lilia's claw, savage armor, mandragora, power dust, fairy
ball, antidote, siren's tear, battle bow, light dust.
once you get the eternal flame warp back to dolun and talk to Hardy to get
a diving tool. sail Northeast to the whirlpool now SAIL DUE NORTH to a ring
shaped island, like a backwards C. just sail back and forth inside the C
and eventually the time will be right and you will "dive" to Oltoria.
Oltoria
talk to everyone here, collect the revive, and have Zabal swap with Endral
and get the summer sphere.
now go to the surface and sail west to the pantheon. now sail north along
the coast until you hit some ice sheets disembark and follow the LONG
forested path until you reach nowland.
nowland
talk to everyone and the mayor will trade the summer sphere for the sleigh,
now you need to leave and use the sleigh on the ice to find the mage, Arlow
remember, he is the only person who can unlock the door cave. he is in the
northern fjords. so leave here and head north, board your ship and sail
east following the ice islands until you reach a large one, disembark and
follow the valley until you reach the ice cave in the northwest region
of the island.
Ice Cave
my guys are at level 45 at this point, just to keep track - one thing i
noticed about this game though, unlike seemingly every other NES RPG is
that except for at the very beginning of the game you never have to grind,
its quite a nice change, i must say.
items to find: siren's tear, silver shield, Mandragora, fairy ball, silver
armor, Gula's Heart, wind clothes,
once you reach the bottom easternmost portion of the cave tanlaw and Arlow
will swap. now leave and warp back to door cave.
Door cave
make sure you save and rest in Dolun then go to door cave, arlow will open
the door then a boss will attack. go left and go down the first set of
stairs you see. (you'll pass up a treasure, but who cares about an earth
prayer?) here you can get Gula's shield (for Endral), head down again. get
the fortune sand and Derit's sword (for Arlow) go up the stairs for another
Mandragora and Manus' shield (for Arlow). upstairs get another Mandragora
wind clothes and Khan's shield (for the hero) go downstairs to leave.
Zuhl's Castle
go left for Manus' armor and due north for Khan's armor. go downstairs to
fight buzz. get khan's sword and continue on holding A.. fighting the whole
way. the path is linear (imagine that!) and the bosses and enemies are a
joke (shocking!). When you get to Devil make sure that you are prepared for
a LONG fight. as long as you keep attacking and using Mezl+ to heal you
should be fine though - hopefully you held onto MP restoring items, you may
need to use them in this series of fights. well, not to spoil anything but
man - they left this game wide open for a sequel - i guess we will have to
wait until Silva Saga II is translated on the SNES to find out what happens
