Magnum Kiki Ippatsu is a static shooter game for the Famicom, with an old-
style flair (hence the Empire City 1931 subtitle). You go through five areas
with eight stages apiece, and shoot to kill the bad guys that emerge from the
various nooks before they shoot and kill you. It may take a little bit to get
the timing down, especially since you will have to dodge a fair share of
these attacks in order to get through the game. However, I had a lot of fun
playing through this game, and you will too!

Gameplay
========
General Gameplay
----------------
In each stage, you are in a first person view looking at the scene from a
panoramic view in the distance. There are white crosshairs on the screen
which you move by using the Control Pad. White arrows will appear on either
side of the screen, and they will lead you to the next bad guy you need to
kill.
When you get to the screen with the enemy, you will usually see a countdown
before he shoots at you. You will need to quickly shoot and kill (one shot
will do the trick; you will know if you hit them by the red shot left
behind). For the trickier enemies, your crosshairs will turn yellow when you
are actually targeting the enemy, so use that to your advantage. You can also
dodge enemy attacks by pressing B. You must time it right though, so just
before an enemy's countdown reaches zero would be the optimal time to do so.
Immediately after killing a bad guy, a small crate will appear somewhere in
the area. If you shoot it, you will receive a random item. Also hidden in the
stages are Armored Vests; their locations are listed in the next section. In
the first stage of the game, there are only five enemies to kill before
completing the stage; that number goes up with each stage you complete.
At the end of each stage, your remaining time is added to your total score
(100 points for each second remaining). You start with 250 seconds of time,
but your ammunition takes away a second for each shot fired, so keep that in
mind when firing repeatedly. You also have three lives initially, and will
earn an extra one after every 50000 points.
There are five areas, with eight levels in each. Seven are regular stages,
and the last one is the boss stage. In the seven regular stages, the stage
loops if you move far enough to the left/right. The boss stages take place in
an actual room that does not loop. In a boss stage, you have to kill a bunch
of regular enemies, then the boss character will appear. Shoot him once to
kill him, but then you need to dodge his attack which will still count down
even if you shot him first. Once you beat the boss, you go on to the next
area, receiving a four-character password should you wish to continue the
game at this point later.
It should be noted that every area's stages are exactly the same. That is,
1-1 will be the same scene as 2-1, 1-2 and 2-2, etc. It should go without
saying that the later areas will not be as easy as their earlier counterparts
though!
There is one MAJOR thing to note, however. In world 5, in order to reach the
final boss, you need to find a key hidden in 5-1 (it's in a regular crate).
When you have the key, you will see a golden "10000" above your total score.
With the key in hand, get to 5-8 and complete the stage, then you will be
able to unlock a door in that room. This will lead you to the true final boss
enemy, the battle against which will begin once the chandelier falls. Beat
this guy like any other opponent, and the game will be won!
Items
-----
NOTE: With the exception of the Armored Vest, all items are found in crates
that randomly appear immediately after defeating an enemy.
Armored Vest: This hidden gray vest will make you invulnerable to a set
amount of enemy hits. The exact amount is in a number next to
the time, and depends on if you shoot the vest when it
initially appears (if you do NOT shoot it, you will get 5 hits
out of it, otherwise you will get less but at least one). The
vest is hidden in a specific location in each stage.
Bullets: Gain an additional 50 seconds of time/ammunition.
Doll: This is a small blue doll that sits where the crate was. Shoot it to
receive 1000 points.
Gold Bars/Money Bag: Shoot it repeatedly to get added points (first time gets
you 200 points, second time gets you 400 points, third
time gets you 800 points, and so on).
Key: Allows you access to the final boss of the game.
Spider: This climbs directly upward from the create. Shoot for 1000 points.
Superman: This super-hero character will fly diagonally out of the crate.
Shoot it to get 1000 points.
Armored Vest Locations
----------------------
?-1: At the church, shoot the middle of the center window above the doorway.
?-2: Shoot the back window of the old parked car in the lot.
?-3: There is a short building with no windows and two crates on the roof.
Shoot the top-left corner of the larger crate.
?-4: Near a door in the background, you will see a group of nine oil drums.
Shoot the second one from the left on the top row.
?-5: N/A
?-6: You will find a building with two floors, and each alternating window
has a curtain drawn to some extent. Shoot the "EMI" sign above the door
of this building.
?-7: Near the old parked car, you will see a stack of five crates to the
left. Shoot the middle of the second window above these crates.
