II.  STORY
=============================================================================
A long, long time ago a woodcutter's family lived in a small woods.  One day,
inside their house, the grandmother was talking to her grandchildren.  "Long,
long ago there was an evil dragon that was terrifying the people.  A wizard
came from the north country, captured the dragon, and put it deep in the
ground.  See the picture on the wall?  The wizard is your grandfather."

Just as the grandmother pointed at the picture, their pet dog "Pochi" came in
with a shiny, pointed object.  It was a scale from the dragon!  Mother and
Father both felt the dragon was about to revive.  So they started to get
ready to go to the dungeon.  Their mission was to destroy it.  The kids
cried, "There's no way that you can ever beat the dragon!"  Father smiled and
said, "Don't worry, there is a DragonSlayer."

"DragonSlayer" is a magical sword - the only weapon that can destroy the
dragon.  However, it is protected by four hidden crowns.  The kids said, "We
can help you find the crowns if it's OK with you."  "Sure, if we can all help
each other, we will be able to defeat the dragon," the Father replied.

Where are the four crowns?  Can the Draslefamily destroy the dragon?  Now the
adventure begins.

Aaditya Rangan and has been used with permission by him.  Email him if you
wish to use it.

Any notation below is independent of the notation used in my FAQ thus far.
The information below has not been altered in any factual way from Mr.
Rangan's FAQ.  The only change I made was some minor spacing (see
"Landmarks") so as to ease the information's readability.

(Aaditya's information begins below this line.  Any "I" below this line will
refer to him and not to me.  Any questions regarding the map or its
information should be directed to Mr. Rangan.  Mr. Rangan will be "speaking"
for the remainder of this section of the FAQ.  I will resume "speaking" in
the next section.)

- / \ | +    means walls and other impassable areas.
To represent a passageway, I will leave gaps in the walls.
If case of ambiguity, I will put a 'O' to indicate a passageway
(ladder, hole, etc.) through a wall.

?  means passageway is hidden.  You must push on walls to find it.
X  means passageway is an immediate dead end.  You may as well
  not take it.

means screen division.  This is not really meaningful, but helps
locate screen coordinates more easily.  I have omitted these when
  the area gets too cluttered.

S  means shop in screen
s  means hidden shop in screen
I  means inn in screen
i  means hidden inn in screen
T  means teleporter in screen
C  means crown in screen
L  means long sword in screen

XI.  GETTING A GRIP -- HOW TO USE THE GLOVE
=============================================================================
Mastering the use of the glove is essential to completing Xemn's area with
Xemn.  Its usage is quite simple.  However, the puzzles where you are
supposed to apply the glove are not so easy.  Below are key glove rules and
skills that you should know and master before attempting Xemn's area.

Push but not Pull
The glove may only be used to PUSH blocks.  It may NOT be used to pull
blocks.  A minor exception is when the block is pushed onto the edge of the
screen.  The block will then "ricochet" back to its original position.  You
can tell this will happen because the block will still be "glowing."

Reset the Puzzle
All areas requiring the glove have a way to leave the screen and return.
This "resets" the blocks to their original position.  Whenever you have
either pushed a block into the wrong position or have no clue how to push the
blocks, try resetting the puzzle and trying again.  It is practically
impossible to trap yourself with no way out.  There's always a way to reset.

Push in 8 Directions
The block may be moved in 8 directions depending on which direction was LAST
pressed before you moved the block.  For example, if you stand next to the
block and press UP, when you move the block, it will go up.  Generally, you
don't notice this effect because you are moving in the same direction that
you're pushing the block in.  However, knowing what direction the block will
move to is vital (see corollary below).  You can also push a block diagonally
by pressing diagonally when you push the block.  You may only push a block
diagonally if you are able to push it to that same position using a
horizontal and vertical push.  You may also stand on a block, jump and press
UP to try to push the block up.  However, since you also are standing on the
block as it is moving up, the block hits you for 1 damage and winds up moving
back down so its position never changes.  So there's no point in trying to
push a block up when you're standing on it.

Example:     0123
          2        Can't push block (1,1) to position (2,2) or (2,0) because
1  BB    block (2,1) is in its way.  You can push the block to
          0        (0,2) though.

            0123
2        Can push block (1,1) to position (2,2) because nothing is
          1  B     in its way.
          0

Ride the Block (Push in 8 Directions corrollary)
The most important technique to master.  Riding a block requires a minimum of
2 vertical spaces above the block so you can jump.  To ride a block, first
get on top of it.  Now jump and hold the button down so you'll activate the
glove.  Tap LEFT or RIGHT right when you land and you will move the block
left or right AND you will walk a little bit left or right too.  This keeps
you from falling off the block when it moves.

If you have more room (4 or more vertical spaces), you can stand on the left
or right edge of the block and press LEFT or RIGHT before you jump and when
you land, the block will move left or right.  Riding a block using this
method is much more prone to cause you to fall off than by pressing LEFT or
RIGHT as you land.

Fake Walls and Real Walls
Blocks may be pushed onto fake walls.  If you destroy a fake wall, pushing a
block onto the fake wall and then pushing the block away will restore the
fake wall.  However, blocks may NOT be pushed onto real walls.  This fact is
critical to solving a puzzle in which the fake walls turn into real ones when
you touch them.

Different Matter Can't Occupy the Same Space
Pushing a block on a monster or pushing a block onto it as it is respawning
will defeat it.  A block pushed onto a respawn spot will prevent any further
respawning as long as the block remains on the respawn location.

Use it when necessary
To avoid pushing blocks by accident, only equip the glove when you need to
use it.

Puzzle Solutions
==================
Below are the solutions to all of the puzzles requiring the use of the glove.
Each puzzle has been isolated so the puzzle borders do not lead off the
screen unless marked.  I assume you can move a block in any direction and
will not instruct you on how to do this (see above for how to move a block).
All paths leading off the screen are labelled as "resets" or "R"  Ladders
leading off the screen are labelled "reset ladder #" or "RL#."  These
solutions only provide passage through a puzzle.  For additional information
including chests or where to go, please refer to the walkthrough.

If you want to see the puzzle solved in another format, I will make Nesticle
movies and/or animated gifs of each puzzle to be posted at my website:

XII.  ADVENTURING ADVICE
=============================================================================
01:  Each member of the Draslefamily has different abilities.  Use all the
members of the family (including the family pet Pochi) to find the four
crowns and the sword, DragonSlayer.  During your adventure, you may
return to the house as many times as you like to change characters.  Try
    to use everyone's different abilities.

02:  Even though you have 5 family members altogether, there is only 1 life
to live.  If any family member's life becomes 0 (zero) then the game
will be over.  When your life becomes low, go back home or stay at an
Inn.  It is better to live to fight another day than to dig an early
    grave.

03:  Save often.  Your progress can be saved at the house by talking to
Grandma and getting a password.  Write down the password and give it to
Grandpa the next time you play.  You will be able to continue from where
you left off.  Make sure you distinguish between 1's and L's.

04:  Conquering a complex maze begins with mapping.  You should make a map
while exploring the dungeon. Anyone can defeat monsters; discovering the
secrets of the dungeon is the real key to this game.  The dungeon has
five major sections and each section has its own characteristics.  Try
to use each family member in the section where they can do the most
good.  Each major section has different background music and by knowing
the music it's easier to tell where you're located.  The dungeon is very
complex.  Making a map will make your adventure easier.

05:  After you pick up some items try to return to the family home. If you
play without returning home, you'll lose the items when your character
    dies.

06:  Some of the blocks and monsters can be used to your advantage when
exploring the dungeons. Moving blocks over monsters is a sure way to
    destroy them.

07:  You can climb higher by jumping on movable blocks or jumping from on top
    of the monsters.

08:  Use Pochi to familiarize yourself with the dungeon since he doesn't get
    hurt by the monsters.

09:  Enemies respawn shortly after they are defeated.  Therefore don't stay
too long in an area unless you are trying to stockpile gold and keys.

10:  When you are low on either life, magic, keys, or gold you will receive
those items when you defeat monsters.  The precedence is magic, life,
    keys, gold.

11:  If you pause the game before impact, while falling, you will not get
    hurt.

12:  Use the power boots to kill otherwise strong enemies like the fake
blocks without having to touch them first.

13:  Since keys are hard to stockpile, use the Key Stick whenever you can.

14:  For amusement, you can stand on the clouds above the Drasle family's
house.  Use the wings to fly up to them.

15:  For further amusement, when you defeat Keela, its body will disintegrate
into a pile of bones.  If Roas is touching any part of it, he will be
killed.  There's no real point to it other than to have some fun after
you've crushed Keela x number of times.

16:  You can exploit a small gap under Keela's flames to rapidly attack
Keela.  Be careful to get out of the way before Keela dies though.  See
    above for the reason.

17:  For an odd game quirk, rapidly press the "A" button on the grandmother
(Jiela).  If you press fast enough, Roas will be selected on the right
side of the table instead of on the left side.  This trick does not work
on the Japanese version of the game.

18:  For another odd game quirk, fall down and don't move.  Your character
will be in "injured" state.  Sometimes by pressing DOWN in this state,
you can watch your character move in this state.

19:  (Unconfirmed)  I believe that every item except for the shield may be
found in a chest in the dungeon.

20:  The absolute maximum number of any single item is 16.  After you have 11
or more in your inventory, the shops stop selling that particular item.
You can exploit a loophole by equipping 3 of that item so you will be
    able to buy 3 more (11 - 3 = 8).  This makes for a total of 14 items
through purchase alone.  You can also find items in the dungeon so it
could potentially be 15.  I confirmed 16 is the max because I used the
cheat code to get 16 of every item and when I tried to grab the 17th
item, it made the grab poison sound.

21:  The ring is protects the family members except Pochi from all damage
including spikes but excluding damage from falling down.

22:  Game quirk.  By jumping AND scrolling the screen back and forth between
the general area and Lyll's area, you can cause the background music to
change.  The drum beats in the music will be gone.  Effects last until
you pause the game or leave the area.

=============================================================================
XIII.  WALKTHROUGH
=============================================================================
This walkthrough goes through the easiest order to get the crowns.  I also do
not buy ANYTHING in the shops as everything (shield too?) can be found in a
treasure chest in the dungeon.  Nevertheless, this is by no means the only
solution.  Feel free to deviate from this walkthrough at any time.  Before
you continue, here is the notation I used.

Shops
-----
Example:  Shop 1 (Elixir 50, Crystal 95)

The shop is numbered according to when I encounter it in the walkthrough.
Since this is the first shop (outside the house), I named it shop 1.  In
parentheses are the names of the items for sale with their respective prices.
For more information regarding the shops, consult the section "Shop Till You
Drop." (to be implemented in future release).

Treasure chests
---------------
Example:  treasure chest (special potion)

The treasure chests' contents will be listed in parentheses next to it.

In addition, I assume you know the following (common sense) information.

1.  Kill everything.  Monsters hurt you when you touch them so unless you're
using Pochi, kill everything.  Don't stay too long in an area because the
   monsters will respawn shortly.

2.  Stockpile keys.  Without keys, you won't get far in the game so I'd
suggest that you spend some time stockpiling keys (around 50 is good).
If you do not have any keys, then the next monster you kill will leave
   behind a key.

3.  (optional) Stockpile gold.  This is purely up to you since you can find
every item in a chest somewhere in the game.  Important things to buy
however include Elixirs, Magic Bottles, and Crystals.

4.  Get a lift.  If you can't jump high enough to reach a ledge, either use a
monster as a stepping stone to jump off from or use the Jump Shoes.

Crowns and Dragonslayer
-------------------------
*X* = That family member is supposed to get that crown.
X? = Is theoretically possible but haven't confirmed yet.
X = That family member is able to get that crown.

Welcome to Legacy of the Wizard
-------------------------------
Required :  Nothing
Optional :  Nothing
Treasures:  Crystal, Glove, 2 Special Bread, Special Gold, Special Potion

You've just started the game.  This section of the walkthrough will
familiarize you with the dungeon.  I will cover how to get the crowns in the
next section of this walkthrough so if you are already familiar with the
dungeon, you may skip this section and proceed to "The First Crown."

Since this is your first time playing, I'd suggest selecting Pochi, the pet.
You can pick any family member, but Pochi has the advantage that he doesn't
get hurt by the other monsters.  Since you have no items to start off with,
head left.  You'll see Shop 1 (Elixir 50, Crystal 95) in a tree.  Further to
the left is a ladder down to the dungeon.

You'll now see a ladder down and more area to the right.  Start by killing
every monster you run across.  Since you have no keys, the first monster you
kill will leave a key behind.  From this point on, I will assume that you
have enough keys to open chests.  If you do not, then just kill the monsters
in the vicinity and you will get some keys.  Now, head right and you will see
a treasure chest (special potion) shortly.  This chest is pretty much
pointless since you have plenty of magic and if you need more, you can always
return home.  However, grab it so you don't miss any chests in the game.
Below the chest and slightly to the right is a ladder down.  Go down the
ladder and head left.  You'll see another treasure chest (crystal).  Head
some more to the left until you see a ladder.  You can climb up or down.  For
now, climb up.  You'll now be back in the same screen as when you first
entered the dungeon.  Now head right.  Keep moving right until the screen
scrolls to the right.  Continue heading right and you will see a treasure
chest (special bread) in a space by some blocks.  Since you are using Pochi,
you haven't gotten hurt yet aside from falling down.  Therefore this chest is
pointless too.  Grab it anyway.  You may have noticed that the screen
contains a high and low path.  Take the high path since there are fewer
monsters up there.  Now head right once more and the screen will scroll to
the right.  Keep heading right and you will see an inn.  To the inn's right
is a treasure chest (special gold) on a platform.  Now head right again until
the screen scrolls.  You will see a ladder leading down to a purple ladder.
That way is a dead end so walk past that ladder.  You'll see a second ladder
going down and more area to the right.  The right eventually ends up being a
dead end so head down the ladder.  Head right and pretty soon you'll see Shop
2 (Magic Bottle 70, Elixir 70).

It now appears that you've reached another dead end.  Not so.  The screen
looks something like below.

Figure G1

  ###############
         #######
           # #
     #    ## ##  C
  ####   #      ###
  #  ############
     #  o ##
  ####  #
       ########
      #       ##
          S    ##
  ###############

Take a look above the shop.  What appears to be a dead end, in fact hides a
secret.  The o is a fake wall.  Press against it and it will vanish revealing
a secret passage.  This is your first (but not last) encounter with the many
fake walls in the game.  Now head right and you will see 2 chests, one red
and one orange (special bread) on the platform above.  There is also a ladder
down.  You can use the monsters in the area as a stepping stone to reach the
chests.  This is a useful tactic to know for future reference.  The red chest
is NOT a chest but a monster known as a mimic (resembles a chest).  It won't
hurt you but if you were anyone but Pochi, you'd take 10 damage by touching
the mimic.  Now head down ladder to the next screen by going through a fake
wall.  You'll see a lone treasure chest (Glove) in the middle surrounded by
blocks.  Impossible to get you say?  Again, remember about fake walls.  Head
left and jump on to the blocks using the "steps" to the left.  Walk through
some fake walls and get the chest.  Now backtrack all the way back to the
dungeon's entrance.

Ok, now that you're back at the beginning, head down the ladder that I told
you to skip when we first entered the dungeon.  The first screen below is
nothing new since it was where the crystal was.  If you recall, we went up
the ladder but we didn't head down another screen.  Let's go down one more
screen.  At the bottom of the ladder is an inn.  To the right is a treasure
chest (powered boots) that you can't get right now (see Intermission
section).  Head right until you the screen scrolls.  In this area you'll see
a walled off area consisting of a treasure chest (2nd Crown), an inn, and a
lion like enemy.  You can't get the chest now (see 2nd Crown section) so for
now, continue heading right.  There will be a some green blocks and a brown
colored "block."  That is no ordinary block.  It is a monster.  Like the
mimic, it too will inflict 10 damage to anyone but Pochi.  In addition, you
can't hurt the block until you touch it once so in the future, try to avoid
these kinds of monsters.  Ok, now it seems we are at the end of the platform.
Take the plunge and you'll fall down 2 screens and land next to an inn.
Stand on top of the "triangle" shaped ledge you just fell onto.  Take a look
at the blue blocks in the upper left corner.  There appears to be 3 blue
blocks that look different from the other blue blocks and a white block above
the 3 blue blocks.  Get up there and you'll discover that the white block is
fake.  It vanishes revealing Shop 3 (Powered Boots 20, Key Stick 60).
However, the door is blocked so you can't get in.  You'll need Xemn to use
the Glove we found not too long ago to push the block out of the way,
revealing the door to the shop.  Alternatively, you could use Lyll and the
Mattock or Meyna and the Rod.

In any case, head to the left side of the triangular ledge and drop down.
You'll see the painting of the Dragon Keela.  Drop down to the floor and to
the left are 2 ladders and a treasure chest (special scroll).  Unfortunately,
the way to the ladders is blocked by a block.  The top ladder leads to what I
will call Xemn's area.  The lower ladder leads to Meyna's area.  Since you
can't do anything more there, head to the right side.  There you will find 3
ladders.  The lower right ladder leads to Pochi's area.  You'll notice that
the music changes when you take that ladder.  This means that you are now in
different major section of the dungeon (see map below).  The upper right
ladder leads up one screen and then heads right to Lyll's area.  The music
changes to a fast beat.  Again, this indicates you have stepped into a
different major section of the dungeon.  Here is the dungeon is a rough map
of how the dungeon is divided.  I will refer to these areas in the future.
Therefore, be familiar with what each area is called.  For a more precise
map, refer to the map section of this FAQ.

The dungeon is divided into 5 major sections (map not drawn to scale,
divisions have been exaggerated).

The third ladder (To the left of Lyll's ladder) is the way back home.  Let's
take it so we can save and so I can show you how to get home for future
reference.  Head up the ladder and climb the "steps" up one more screen.
Head left and when you climb the ladder, stop at the third space from the top
of the screen.  Push left and the wall will vanish allowing you the chance to
drop back down to Keela's painting.  Since we want to go home, head up
instead.  You'll now see green blocks and to the left is where we took the
plunge down.  I'm sure you know how to get back now (keep heading left and
climb the ladder up).  You'll be taking this path many times as you go for
the crowns, which leads us to the next stage of the walkthrough.  Head home
and save the game first.

---------------
The First Crown
---------------
Required :  Nothing
Optional :  Shield, Recovery items
Treasures:  Crown, Elixir, Power Knuckle, 6 Special Bread, 2 Special Gold,
           Special Potion

Now that you are familiar with the dungeon, it's time to seek out the first
crown.  Make your way down to the general area.  Now head for the southeast
ladder which leads to Pochi's area.  Go down the ladder and the music will
change.  Go right one screen.  Climb up the ladder up one screen.  There will
now be several ladders to your right.  The first ladder is the one we just
climbed up so there's no point in going back down that one.  Skip the second
ladder for now.  The third ladder leads to a dead end but there's an inn
there.  The fourth ladder is nothing but a dead end.  To the right of the
ladder is an inn.  You'll notice that the path winds around until you reach a
treasure chest (special bread) and Shop 4 (Magic Bottle 45, Elixir 45).
There is a ladder down to the right of the shop but it leads to a dead end.

Now head back to the ladder I told you to skip (2nd ladder).  Now head right.
You'll reach an apparent dead end.  However, stand at the base of the ladder
that's next to the wall.  Now jump to the right and push against the wall.
You'll reveal a hidden passage through the wall.

until the screen scrolls to the left.  You'll now be in a mazelike screen.
There are some locked doors so you'll need some keys.  Here is the way

will be a ladder down and a treasure chest (power knuckle) on the other side
of the right wall.  We'll get that chest shortly.  For now, head down the
ladder.  Suddenly you'll drop down into a pit of spikes.  There's a treasure
chest (special bread) suspended in the air.  To the left is a hidden
passageway leading nowhere.  Head right through some fake walls.  There will
be a ladder and some walls that seemingly block the way forward.  Climb up
the ladder.  Now push right against the second wall section from the top of
the ladder and it will vanish.  Now walk right and you'll go through some
more fake walls and pass through the walls.  You should see a huge pile of
gray blocks in your way.  Walk into them and keep jumping until you you get
through them.  You might drop down to the screen below.  If that happens,
jump back up.  I'll get back to that screen in a moment.

In the middle, you'll see an inn, Shop 7 (Armor 80, Crystal 60), and a
treasure chest (special gold).  Just follow the path around to reach them.
The pillars each contain a fake wall.  After grabbing the treasure, make your
way right until the screen scrolls.  You'll see Shop 8 (Power Knuckle 45,
Magic Bottle 40).  There is a ladder down and some more area to the right.
The right is a dead end so head down the ladder to the next screen below.
You'll see a ladder going down another screen.  The screen is divided into a
high and low path.  We'll come back to the high path when we leave.  The low
path leads to an inn.  Taking the ladder down, we suddenly drop from the sky
into an area full of spikes and stalagmites.  There is an inn to the right.
Next to it is a treasure chest (special bread) that is concealing the
entrance to Shop 9 (Fire Rod 40, Elixir 35).  Step on the spikes to reveal
the doorway to the shop.  To the right of the shop is another inn.  Keep
moving right and you'll see a ladder up.  On the next screen, you'll see a
treasure chest (special bread), an inn, and Shop 10 (Magic Bottle 35, Elixir
35).  Above them is a ladder to an inn and a dead end.  Head left and you'll
now see the spikes from the high path that we skipped before.  Grab the
treasure and then head left through a fake wall to return to the platform
stairs that we skipped.

Climb up the platform stairs.  Grab the treasure chest (special gold) at the
top of the stairs.  Now stand where the chest was and press UP.  The ceiling
will vanish.  Jump up to the next screen.  It's another maze.  There's a
treasure chest (special bread) just to your right.

mimics because they kill instantly with one touch regardless of how much life
you have.  Since we're using Pochi, it doesn't matter but be careful with the
other family members.  The only real treasure chest (crown) is the one four
spaces above the inn.  It contains the crown.  Use the inn to heal up before
you get the crown.

four crowns.  You'll be teleported outside the dungeon.  Return home and save
the game.

**The intermissions may be skipped if you already possess the Jump Shoes,
Mattock, and Wings.  However, Intermissions 1 and 3 are the complete
walkthroughs for the 4th and 3rd crowns respectively.

---------------------
Intermission 1:  Xemn
---------------------
Required :  Glove
Treasures:  Crown (only if you have 3), Elixir, Jump Shoes, Magic Bottle,
Mattock, Powered Boots, 6 Special Bread, Special Key, Special
           Potion, 2 Special Scroll.

Before we can embark on the quest for the remaining crowns, we'll need to get
3 key items first:  jump shoes, mattock, and wings.  Start this mission with
Xemn.  Have him take the power knuckle and the glove.

Head down to Keela's painting.  From there, head left and push the block out
of the way.  Grab the treasure chest (special scroll) and climb up the ladder
to the next screen above.  Grab the treasure chest (special potion) and
continue climbing up.  You have two ways to go on the next screen, left or
right.  Head right and walk down the platform stairs to find Shop 13,X1
(Powered Boots 55, Crystal 95).  Walk to the right to grab the chest.  Now
climb back up the platform stairs and head left.  You'll soon see a treasure
chest (special key) across from the platform you're standing on.  While you
can jump across, try crossing the gap by riding the white block.

Now walk to the left and there will be a ladder down and glove puzzle 01 to
your left.  The ladder leads to a dead end so you'll have to face your first
glove puzzle.  I won't spoil it for you here but the trick is to move the
blocks out of the way one at a time so you can proceed.  For a detailed step
by step solution, see section XI, puzzle 01.  Head down the ladder which
leads to Shop 14,X2 (Power Knuckle 50, Fire Rod 50).  To the left of the shop
is a treasure chest (special bread).  Climb back up and go through the blocks
again.  At the top of the screen is a Metablack patroling an area.  The 5th
ceiling section from the left is a fake wall.  Jump up and you'll see the
treasure chest (powered boots) that we could first saw when we used Pochi to
drop down 2 screens from the dungeon entrance.  This chest is special because
there is also a mimic on that same spot.  Therefore you'll be forced to take
damage in order to grab the chest.

Head back down through the fake wall and you'll have an easy puzzle to pass
(See Section XI, puzzle 01).  There is a ladder in the upper left corner
that's used to reset the blocks if you made mistake.  Below the ladder is
Shop 15,X3 (Magic Bottle 65, Elixir 65).  The floor to the left of the shop
is fake.  You'll need to pass puzzle 02 to reach the fake wall.

When you reach the next screen below, there will be a ladder to the next
screen below but it is a dead end.  To the right of the ladder is an inn.
The wall next to the inn is too high for you to jump over so you can either
use the blocks in the room as a stepladder or just simply ride on top of one
of the monsters.  You'll now have to cross some spikes.  You can try riding
the blocks to cross but it's much easier to just walk across holding UP so
you don't take damage.  Past the spikes are 2 blocks that you can easily push
out of the way.  Follow the path around and you'll soon reach puzzle 03.  The
trick is to push all the blocks to the left especially the southeastmost
block.  See Section XI, puzzle 03 if you're still stuck.  Climb up the ladder
that's past the puzzle.  Walk towards the right from the top and you'll fall
and walk through some fake walls.  To the right is puzzle 04.  The chest at
the top of the screen is not a chest but a monster (mimic).  To solve puzzle
04, just ride the block next to the ladder to reach the two blocks above the
reset ladder that you can easily push aside.  See XI, puzzle 04 for the
solution.

Go through the fake wall in the lower right corner to the screen below.
There will be a ladder going down to the screen below and some platforms
heading to the left.  Go left.  At the top of the platforms are 2 monsters
walking back and forth.  Notice how they don't walk on the 4th block?  That's
because that block is a fake wall positioned to make you fall down to the
screen below.

Head to the right and you'll see an inn you can reach by winding around a
path of spikes.  Northeast of the inn is a ladder up.  Climb up and you'll be
at the ladder that was next to the platforms.  Make your way back to the left
until you're back in front of where the chest containing the magic bottle
was.  Now jump off towards the left and if you timed it right, you will fall
down and land safely on top of the blocks on the screen below.  Walk a little
bit to the left and you'll see a ladder up.  Climb up and there will be an
inn to the right of the ladder and platforms to the left.  Go left across the
platforms.  There's a fake wall in the middle of the platform of length 3.
Keep going left and walk off the edge of the platforms.  You'll fall down and
land on some spikes.  Move over to the left and push the block that's in your
way.  Be careful not to push the blocks the wrong way or you could trap
yourself forever which means you'll have to RESET THE GAME!  See section XI,
puzzle 05 for the solution.  At the end of the puzzle is Shop 17,X5 (Mattock
65, Glove 30).  Follow the path left to go to the next screen down.

You'll see a treasure chest (special bread).  You'll now be in front of
puzzle 06.  The two ladders including the one you just came down from can be
used as reset ladders.  The trick to this puzzle is to move the top block out
of the way so you can manipulate the bottom one.  The rest is just moving the
blocks, one at a time, until you can ride one to reach the higher platforms.
See section XI, puzzle 06 for the solution.  After you pass the puzzle, you
can rest at an inn.  You won't get much rest as puzzle 07 awaits.  To solve
this one, just move the blocks so you can jump off from them to reach higher
ledges.  Combine this with the ride the block technique to pass the puzzle.
See section XI, puzzle 07 for the solution.  Once you pass puzzle 07, you
should be standing on a high platform with a block on the right edge.  Just
walk off the block towards the right and you'll go through some fake walls
and fall down the the screen below.

You'll be in front of puzzle 08 now.  This one is just like the others only
the first part involves moving blocks out of the way while the second part
involves riding the block.  See section XI, puzzle 08 for the solution.
After you pass puzzle 08, you'll have to push four blocks to the right so you
can proceed further.  To the left will be Shop 18,X6 (Rod 50, Key Stick 80),
an inn, and a treasure chest (Mattock).  Head up the ladder and go to the
left.  You'll see a long ladder on the far left side.  Go down to the next
screen below.  You'll see another inn directly beneath you.  There is also a
long vertical passage that seems to be inaccessible but it's just a fake
wall.  Delay taking the plunge for now and go to the ladder on under the inn.
Follow it down 2 screens below to reach a treasure chest (special bread).
Now climb back up and take the plunge.  You'll see a treasure chest (special
scroll).  The remaining passage is a dead end so climb back out.  When you
attempt to climb back out, you'll just fall back down again right?  Well, to
get out, just equip the glove and stand at the top of the ladder.  Now jump
up, push right, and use the glove.  You'll push the second block from the
vertical passage to the right.  Now head to the right where you'll find Shop
19,X7 (Key Stick 80, Crystal 65).  Above the shop is a treasure chest
(special bread).  Head down the ladder on the far right side.  You'll now
face the longest and possibly most difficult puzzle (puzzle 08 seemed
harder).

In this puzzle, the blocks are stacked on top of each other in columns (13 in
all).  There are also fake walls that "sandwich in" the blocks.  The fake
walls in this puzzle are unique because instead of vanishing when you touch
them, they become real walls.  You can see how this could prevent you from
moving the blocks.  Also to make it a little more difficult, monsters will be
attacking you.  The secret is that blocks can be moved onto fake walls but
NOT real ones.  Therefore to solve this puzzle, just take care of the
monsters (sealing them off helps).  Then, move the blocks left to "drop"
down.  Just repeat the same thing for the remaining columns of blocks.
There's plenty of reset ladders (one per column) so you don't have to pass
the puzzle in one try.  See section XI, puzzle 09 for the solution.  At the
end of the puzzle is an inn and Shop 20,X8 (Magic Bottle 45, Elixir 45).  Use
the ladder to reset the area since you pushed a block in the way of the
ladder we need to go down.

On the next screen below, mimic is waiting for you.  Now head right watching
out for fake walls that will drop you into the lower path.  On the far right
side is a monster patrolling a small alcove with a door.  Beneath the door is
a fake wall.  Go through it to the screen below.  You'll see platforms of
four blocks each (1 movable) above spikes.  Ride each block across the
platforms and you'll reach Shop 21,X9 (Armor 60, Powered Boots 25).  Below
the shop is an inn.  To the left is a treasure chest (Key Stick) that we
can't get (see Intermission:  Meyna for details).  Now head right to the next
screen.  You'll see an inn above you.  A little bit to the right is a
treasure chest (Elixir).  There's a ladder up but let's pass it by for now.
To the right still is Shop 22,X10 (Power Knuckle 40, Fire Rod 40).  Any
further to the right is a dead end so let's climb up that ladder we passed.
Head left across the spikes and you'll reach the inn.  Now climb up the
ladder to the left of the inn.

The next screen is mostly platforms but you can't jump high enough to reach
them so continue climbing up the ladder.  The screen is now filled with fake
and real walls.  Work your way right being careful to avoid falling through
the fake walls that lead off to the screen below.  If you fall, you'll just
have to climb back up again so be prepared to get frustrated if you miss a
jump.  Pretty soon, you'll see a treasure chest (special bread) and an inn.
Use the inn to change items if you wish.  Now keep moving right, going
through the spikes and columns.  Below the rightmost column is a fake wall
that leads to the screen below.  That is the important wall to fall through
but skip it for now and fall through the one to the right of it.  You'll land
next to an inn and Shop 23,X11 (Magic Bottle 20, Crystal 35).  If you have
the gold, buy some crystals.  Now drop down below and work your way back up
to the rightmost pillar.  Once there, fall down through the fake wall.
You'll land near a treasure chest (Crown).  There are 2 ways to get the
crown.  However, since this is the intermission, getting the crown now will
make it so the other family members will fight unmatched bosses (see crown
breakdown for details).  Unless you already have gotten the first 3 crowns,
don't get it.  Instead, use the crystal to head home and save.

Method A (easy way)
Stand on the platform to the left of the one you landed on.  Now see the Rock
Beasts (eyeball monsters) moving on the ceiling?  Wait until the red one is
coming back towards you (to the right) and jump when it just passes the
chest.  If you timed it right, you should "land in" and stick onto the Rock
Beast which lets you easily reach the chest from the right.

Method B (hard way)

left.  This is the final glove puzzle, #10.  See section XI, puzzle 10 for
the solution.

---------------------
Intermission 2:  Lyll
---------------------
Required :  Mattock
Treasures:  Crystal, Elixir, Fire Rod, Powered Boots, 4 Special Bread,
           Special Key, Special Scroll, Wings

Having obtained the Mattock, we now use Lyll to obtain the second of the
vital items:  Wings.  Since we don't have the jump shoes yet, have Lyll take
the power knuckle, mattock, and powered boots.  Head down to the general
area.  Before we head to Lyll's area, let's make a small detour.  Head left
and down the southwest ladder to Meyna's area.  You'll see a ladder going
down and a smaller ladder to the right of it.  Fall down and at the bottom of
the long drop are some blocks and a ladder.  Examine the blocks carefully.
They all have stalagmites under them except for the rightmost one.  Use the
mattock to break the block above and you'll find a secret inn.  Now, jump up
and the sign will change to "Shop."  This is secret shop 24 (Shield 95,
Elixir 10).  If you have the money, buy the shield now.  If not, save up for
it.  Just don't forget to BUY THE SHIELD later on.  The shield will earn its
keep during the later boss battles.  You can also pick up some elixirs for a
bargain if you still have some gold left over.  Now head down the ladder and
the music will change to Xemn's area.  You'll see a ladder going up just to
your right.  Climb up and at the top are the 2 ladders you saw when you first
entered.  Walk off to the left and you will fall and land on the small
ladder.  Jump up to the big ladder and leave Meyna's area.  Now, head right
to Lyll's area.

When you first enter you'll see a ladder to your right that goes down to a
dead end.  There's another ladder leading up to the next screen.  There's
also a treasure chest (crystal) that we'll get later.  Skip the ladders and
head right.  You'll see Shop 25 (Power Knuckle 40, Fire Rod 40).  The ceiling
opens up next to the shop.  Jump up and land on one of the platforms in the
air.  Jump up to the treasure chest (special bread) at the top of the screen.
The passage to the left of the chest leads to an inn and a dead end so go
left through the door under the chest instead.  Head left until the screen
scrolls.  Now jump up one screen and go left past the lion guarding the ledge
with the pillar.  You'll fall down near an inn.  Go left a little bit more
and you will see a ladder up.  Climb up to the next screen where you'll find
Shop 26 (Magic Bottle 60, Elixir 60).  Now go right and fall down onto the
ledge with the pillar.  If you look to the right, you'll see 2 blocks that
you can jump across.  Jump across them and the screen will scroll to the
right.  Make your way to the right where you'll find a ladder going up.
Climb up to the next screen.  Use the mattock to break through the blocks.
Follow the path to the right until the screen scrolls.  Keep going right and
you'll see a ladder going down.  You'll fall down and land in front of an
inn.  Go left and you'll see an opening going down and a wall to the left
that is too high for you to jump over without the jump shoes.  Since we need
to get across the wall, you can either break the blocks near the ceiling and
cross that way or you can just use the monster in the area as a stepping
stone.  On the other side of the wall is a treasure chest (special bread).
There will be a high and low path to the left.  The low path path is a dead
end so take the high path.  Follow the path left and you will see a door with
a block above it.  Jump up to uncover Shop 27 (Jump Shoes 80, Magic Bottle
20).  Now go right and follow the path around.  You'll eventually reach a
room of blocks with ladders at the top and bottom.  There's a treasure chest
(special bread) in the room.

The lower ladder leads to an inn and is a dead end.  Therefore, take the
ladder at the top of the room.  Reach it by breaking a small passage through
the blocks.  Follow the path around and you will now be back at the area
where there were platforms in the air.  Fall down one more screen and you'll
be back at shop 25.  Go right and you'll see an inn.  Pass by the inn and
keep heading right.  The screen will scroll.  Fall down the first vertical
passage you come to.  There will be a gap in the ceiling left of the gap you
fell down from.  Now jump and go left to the gap.  Follow it up and follow
the path left.  After the screen scrolls, there will be a ladder going down
that is a dead end.  There will be some blue blocks to your left.  Break
through them and go left.  Eventually you'll reach a vertical passage up with
spikes to the left of it that is too high for you to jump over.  Since we
don't have the jump shoes yet, use the jumping snake monster in the area as a
stepping stone.  On the other side is the treasure chest (crystal) you saw
when you first entered Lyll's area.  Now go back to the screen where you
jumped up through the gap in the ceiling.  When you get back to that screen,
look to the left.  There is a white block that you can break to gain access
to the area below.

If you break the blocks on the left side, you can find a secret passage that

southeast corner.  The next screen is a mini maze.  Go left first where
you'll find a treasure chest (powered boots) in between some blocks.  Now go
all the way to the right where you'll find a ladder down.  The screen below
will be a blue color.  To the left is a treasure chest (special bread).
Below the chest is a ladder down.  Below is shop 28 which you could have
reached by using the big drop down from before.  To the right is an inn.  On
the far right side is a treasure chest (special key).  If you haven't already
noticed, the "floor" consists of nothing but fake blocks.  Dropping down to
the screen below, you'll find spikes and many single block platforms in the
air.  A treasure chest (fire rod) and another inn are found to the left.  To
the right is a picture of Princess Celina that you'll need to come back to
later on (see DragonSlayer section).  Above the picture are fake blocks.

If you follow the fake blocks' path, you will reach shop 29 (Magic Bottle 30,
Elixir 30).  To the right of the picture is an opening in the floor.  Drop
down and you'll land in a deadend room with spikes on the floor.  If you get
hurt by the spikes, they will turn into blocks.  To the left is a treasure
chest (wings).  Grab it and jump back out of the room.  Now go right and
you'll see a VOLCANO in the background.  This is important so remember this
location for the future (see DragonSlayer section for details).  To the right
is shop 30 (Magic Bottle 30, Elixir 30).  You'll need to circle around to
reach it by going up to the next screen and heading right.  You can also use
a monster in the area or the jump shoes if you have them.  Now jump up to the
next screen above.  Follow the path and at the top will be three separate
openings in the ceiling that lead to different places.  The right opening
leads to shop 31 (Magic Bottle 45, Elixir 45) while the left opening leads to
an inn.  The middle opening leads to a path between the inn and the shop.
Basically, all three go to the same screen.  Whatever path you choose, jump
up one more screen.  The area should be purple and consist of blocks in the
air and pillars to separate the three openings.  Shop 32 (Armor 70, Crystal
65) is in the middle of the area.  An inn is to the left.  Jump up one more
screen where you will find more platforms in the air with mimics guarding
them.  You'll have to use one of the platforms a mimic is on so have the
powered boots equipped to kill it without taking damage first.  To the right
is a treasure chest (special scroll).  Work your way to the ledge of the
rightmost mimic.  From that ledge jump up and the screen will consist of many
fake red blocks amongst blocks in the air.  Stay along the right side and
make your way up to the top of the right side.  From the block located there,
jump up another screen.  There will be orange blocks that you can jump back
and forth on to climb upward.  To the right of the blocks is the room of the
DragonSlayer.  The screen above the room of the DragonSlayer is the path that
leads to the second crown, but we'll get that after the next intermission.
For now, go left and you'll see some more orange blocks that form a "bridge"
across a large gap.  When you reach the fifth and final orange block, walk
off into the gap.  You'll land next to a treasure chest (elixir).  Walk to
the left and jump up.

Take path 2 to the left.  Follow the path around and you'll be back at the
screen with the platforms in the air from the way beginning of the
intermission.  Drop down and you'll be back at shop 25.  Go left to leave
Lyll's area.  You've now completed 2/3 of the intermissions.  Return home and
save.

---------------------
Intermission 3: Meyna
---------------------
Required :  Rod, Wings
Optional :  Key Stick, Power Knuckle
Treasures:  Armor, Crown (if you have 2), 2 Crystal, Jump Shoes, Key Stick, 6
Special Bread, Special Key, 2 Special Potion

For the third and final intermission, use Meyna.  The key item we will get
are the jump shoes.  From the general area, go left.  Use the rod to get to
the southeast ladder (Meyna's Area).  Go down the ladder and take the drop
down.  When you land, take the ladder down.  To the right is a ladder you can
use to leave.  To the right of the ladder is an inn.  You'll notice the
screen is split up into a top and bottom half.  We went through the bottom
half, if you remember, near the end of intermission 1.  In any case, proceed
right.  At the far right side will be a ladder down.  You'll climb down past
a few screens.  At the bottom, go right.  It is a dead end, but you can see a
chest.  It contains the third crown.  For now, go back.  Now head left.  Not
too far too the left is a treasure chest (special bread).  Now go left.  At
the far left side will be 3 paths to take.  Take the top one first.  Follow
the path left.  When you get to the ladder at the far left side, take one
step to the right and jump.  You'll go through a fake wall in the ceiling to
a small room with a treasure chest (key stick) and some blocks blocking you
from getting it.  Use the rod to move the blocks out of the way.  Now head
back down and instead of taking the ladder down to a dead end, go back to the
right.  When you get back to the screen with the 3 paths, take the middle
path.  Follow the path around and get the first treasure chest (crystal) you
see.  The others are all mimics.  After getting the chest, you can follow the
path some more until you reach shop 33 (Magic Bottle 70, Elixir 70).  Now go
back to the screen with the 3 paths.  Take the lowest path now.  Follow the
path around and you'll reach a ladder going down.  On the next screen below,
go left.  Follow the path around and you'll see shop 34 (Armor 70, Mattock
60).  To the right of the shop is a treasure chest (special bread) and an
inn.  Now it appears we've reached a dead end.  Walk to the far left side
where the two ladders are.  Stand on the fourth block from the left.  Push
down to fall through a fake wall.

Go right once you land.  You'll see a treasure chest (special bread) on top
of a high ledge.  Before you grab it, examine the blocks around the chest.  2
of them seem to have a dark "line" just above them.  Those lines are really
monsters that are waiting for you to touch them.  Meyna's area has many such
enemies so keep an eye out for them in the future.  Once you've grabbed the
chest, go right until the screen scrolls.  The first thing you should see is
an inn.  Next to the inn is not a chest but a mimic.  Go right and you'll
come across two paths to take.  The lower path is blocked by a block.  There
is an open space underneath the block.  Use the rod to move the block.  Then,
while it is moving, walk down into the small gap underneath where the block
used to be.  Jump so that the block is to your left.  When it stops, go to
the right where you'll find a treasure chest (special potion).  Now take the
high path and to the right will be an opening in the ceiling.  Jump up to the
next screen above.  Go left.  As you're walking to the left, you'll notice
that there is a long corridor of doors at the very top of the screen.  When
you get to the left side, you'll discover that the doors lead to a treasure
chest (crystal).  Since we want to conserve our keys, we'll use the secret
shortcut to get the chest.  See how the long corridor of doors goes down
around a block to get to the chest?  Well, the wall that is 2 spaces below
that block is fake.  Jump up and you'll only use 2 keys to get the chest
instead of the 29 that would have been used had you taken the long way.  If
you take the ladder in the corner down, it will lead you to the inn and the
mimic you saw from before.  Jump and touch the inn's sign to uncover secret
shop 35 (Magic Bottle 10, Elixir 20).  Now, go right and stay near the top of
the screen.  The screen will eventually scroll to the right.  To the right is
a narrow passage with spikes on the floor.  Just jump up through the fake
walls to reach the treasure chest (special bread) on the right.  The ladder
near the top of the screen leads to a dead end so go right and drop down into
the gap in the floor.  You'll fall down on top of a lion like enemy.  Now go
left and jump around to find your way through the fake walls.  Stay near the
top and eventually you'll find your way through.

To the right is shop 36 (Wings 95, Key Stick 80).  Left of the shop is a
ladder with a treasure chest (special bread).  Climb up the ladder and go
left.  Climb up the second ladder to the next screen above.  There will be 2
pillars to your left.  To your right are several narrow passages.  Three are
blocked by blocks.  The top passage is the one we want to go through so use
your wings to reach it and then switch to the key stick if you have it to
conserve your keys.  You'll pass through 17 doors before you reach the other
side.  Keep going right and you'll loop around passing by shop 37 (Key Stick
60, Elixir 35).  Follow the path and you'll see a ladder going down.  Just
follow the path around to the right.  You'll pass by an inn that has an
invisible monster outside of it.  Keep going right and you'll reach a block
that you can either push out of the way or detour around by going on top of
it.  Once you pass that, there will be a narrow passage that has spikes in
the floor that you can't cross just by holding diagonal up.  You'll need to
use the wings to pass through these types of passages.  On the other side of
the passage is a treasure chest (special key) and two ladders going up.  The
right ladder leads to a dead end so take the left one.  There will be many
doors in this area so have the key stick ready.  Work your way up to the
doors at the top of the screen.  Go through them to reach a treasure chest
(special potion).  Now work your way to the left where you'll go through
several fake walls to reach the ladder up.

You should now see 2 blocks on the screen.  At the top of the screen is a
treasure chest (special bread).  To the right is a spike filled area with an
inn in the middle of it.  While it seems that you have to push the blocks to
proceed to the left, this isn't necessary.  The three walls that are 3 spaces
above the blocks are fake walls.  Go through them and follow the path to the
left.  You'll see that the path winds around to shop 38 (Key Stick 60, Elixir
35).  The wall that is left of the ladder contains a fake wall.  Go through
it and pass through the openings in each pillar.  Follow the path and you'll
soon be in an area that contains green walls and spikes.  Just follow the
path as it winds around left and right.  Keep jumping while you're moving so
you can find the fake walls to make the trip shorter.  At the far left side
near the top is a treasure chest (armor).  Eventually the path will wind past
an inn and lead you to a ladder up.  You'll see more spikes, 2 inns, and many
doors filling up a narrow passage blocked by a block at the top of the
screen.  The passage has 52 doors altogether.  On the other side is a
treasure chest (jump shoes).  Since the whole point of this intermission was
to get the jump shoes, we'll need to push the block out of the way.  Push it
left and use the wings to hover in the gap below the block so it doesn't hit
you.  The trick is to wait for the block to fly past you to the right and
jump to stop it on the right side before it bounces off the wall.

Once you've trapped the block, you can then use the key stick to proceed
through the passage.  Make sure you have full health before you go in because
there are 3 invisible monsters waiting for you that each do 10 damage per
touch.  If you're not careful you could die before even reaching the chest so
take an elixir to be safe.  Once you get the chest, just follow the path as
it winds around left and right.  You'll pass a third inn before you reach the
ladder down.  Go down two screens and you'll be above the chest with the
crown you saw from a while back.  There's another narrow passage filled with
doors but a block is in your way.  When you go to move the block, you'll find
that you'll jump when you push the button.  To solve this problem, press and
HOLD the button down.  You'll jump up.  Then with the button still held down,
climb back down and move the block.  It will hit you twice before stopping.
Use the key stick and push the block a few more times to pass through the
passage.  Keep following the path to the right and you'll see an inn.  Before
you rest though, let's clear the remaining doors so you'll be full power.  To
the right of the inn are 3 vertical passages.  Take either the middle or
right passage.  You'll find some fake walls and you follow the path under the
inn to the left.  Pass through 23 more doors and the way to the chest with
the crown will be cleared.  You should only get the crown if you already have
gotten the first two.  If not, then use head home by walking out or by using
the crystal.  And with this intermission completed, you should have all the
items in the game except the crowns and the DragonSlayer.

----------------
The Second Crown
----------------
Required :  Jump Shoes, Mattock
Optional :  Power Knuckle, Powered Boots, Shield, Recovery items
Treasures:  Crown

Use Lyll for this one.  Have her take the jump shoes, mattock, and powered
boots.  Now, if you recall on the way down to the painting, you saw a chest
between 2 gaps and a lion like creature sitting patiently near it.  That is
the 2nd crown.

Go to Lyll's area and get up to the room of the DragonSlayer by heading
right.  Jump up when you come to the gap in the ceiling.  Land on one of
several platforms in the air and go take the middle path leading to the
right.  When you get to the end of the path, fall down to the screen below.
Walk to the right side.  Use the jump shoes and jump over the tall wall.  Now
jump across the blocks in the air to go right.  The room of the DragonSlayer
is to the right.  Keep going right and you'll see some orange blocks near the
far right side.  Jump up to the next screen up and follow the path.  Take the
ladder at the end of the path.  The screen should consist of red walls now.
Go left and you'll find shop 39 (Magic Bottle 40, Elixir 40).  Go left and
you'll come to an area where there are many blocks all around.  Use the
mattock and break through them.  At the far left side is a treasure chest
(special bread).  Either use the invisible ledges or the jump shoes to
proceed left.

On the next screen there will be a tall pillar to the left, a ladder down,
and a gap in the floor.  Use the jump shoes and jump on top of the pillar.
Be careful not to fall in the gaps or else you'll have to repeat the entire
journey back up.  Once you get on top of the pillar, go left.  There will be
an inn below you.  Further to the left, the path will split up to a narrow
passage near the top of the screen and a wider path below it.  The wide path
leads to a treasure chest (special bread).  After you get it, go to the
narrow passage.  Use the mattock and break through the blocks.  You'll come
across shop 40 (Magic Bottle 20, Crystal 40).  Below the shop is a wide gap.
Drop down and you'll see the inn, the lion enemy, and the chest that you've
been passing by since the beginning of the game.  Rest up and switch to the
shield if you need it.

When you try to jump and get the chest, an invisible block appears and
prevents you from getting it.  To get the chest, jump back up to the screen
above.  Jump to the shop's ledge.  From there, jump to the ledge to the
right.  Now jump and use the mattock twice to break the 2 blocks directly
above you.  Then break the blocks to the left, making sure you leave the
second layer of blocks alone so you can walk.  The idea is to make a passage
of your own through the blocks.  Now walk off and you should land on solid
ground.  Now this next part is tricky because the two blocks to the left of
where you are standing are fake so one false move and you'll fall down.  To
make matters worse, there isn't much jumping space so you'll have to walk
left and jump at the last minute to clear the gap.  You can't stand at the
left edge and jump because you won't have enough momentum to make it.

Once you make it across, drop down and grab the chest.  Now fight to earn the
second crown.

Boss :  Erebone
HP   :  109
Atk  :  10 dmg per fireball
Touch:  15 dmg
Def  :  STR 3 does 5 dmg.  STR 12 does about 60 dmg.

Similar to Tarantunes, Erebone is a piece of cake.  When the fight begins,
Erebone will be to your right.  His shots will come at you quickly so equip
the power knuckle and charge to the right.  Just keep firing and get close to
Erebone.  Be careful not to touch Erebone as he does more damage than
Tarantunes.  Erebone will be defeated in a matter of seconds.

---------------
The Third Crown
---------------
Required :  Rod, Wings
Optional :  Key Stick, Shield, Recovery items
Treasures:  Crown

Use Meyna for this one.  Take the power knuckle, wings, and rod.  The key
stick is optional but very useful.  I'd recommend staying at an inn later on
to switch between the power knuckle and key stick.  Equipping the shield when
you're almost to the crown isn't a bad idea either.  Refer to "Intermission
3:  Meyna" for the complete walkthrough on how to get this crown.

Boss :  Archwinger
HP   :  109
Atk  :  20
Touch:  30
Def  :

If you have the shield, position yourself on a high ledge to get a better
shot at Archwinger.  Archwinger will be to your right.  He won't be able to
reach you because of the platforms in his way.  However his shots will reach
you so have the shield to protect yourself.  When you're ready, put on the
power knuckle and fire away.  This battle is tougher than the last 2 so you
may need to use an Elixir.

----------------
The Fourth Crown
----------------
Required :  Glove (using Xemn), Mattock (using Lyll), Rod and Wings (using
           Meyna)
Optional :  Power Knuckle, Powered Boots, Shield, recovery items
Treasures:  Crown

The final crown is obtained by Xemn.  Have him take the power knuckle, glove,
and power boots.  Refer to "Intermission 1:  Xemn" for the complete
walkthrough on how to get this crown.

Boss :  Rockgaea
HP   :  109
Atk  :  40
Touch:  40
Def  :  Str 3 does 0 damage.  Str 12 does ~25 damage.

This boss's touch is deadly (does 40 damage).  Therefore avoid touching him.
Also, his shots do massive damage but they can be destroyed.  Have the
shield, power knuckle, and elixir (trust me, you'll need it) for the battle.
When you feel ready, charge at Rockgaea and shoot up at him.  Hopefully, he
won't touch you in which case you just blast away.  It will be a close battle
so make sure you have the elixir equipped if you're about to die.

----------------
The DragonSlayer
----------------
Required :  Crown, Jump Shoes
Optional :  Power Knuckle, Powered Boots
Treasures:  DragonSlayer

With the crowns in your possession, have Roas take the power knuckle, jump
shoes, and a crown with him.  Now you can use the crown at the pictures to
teleport around to different locations.  Head down Lyll's Area and work your
way up to the DragonSlayer.  Fall down a few screens until you see the
volcano in the background.  Use the slime creature and jump shoes to boost
yourself up a very high (and narrow) gap to a picture of the Princess.  Use
it and you will be teleported to the painting above the DragonSlayer in
Lyll's area.  Use the crown again to get teleported to the picture right
before Lyll's crown.  Use the crown one more time to get teleported to the
room of the DragonSlayer.  Use the crown in the room to get teleported to
Pochi's area.  Use the inn and get the crystal to head home.

----------------
The Final Battle
----------------
Required :  DragonSlayer
Optional :  Nothing
Treasures:  None

With the sword in hand, the time has come to put an end to Keela once and for
all.  Have Roas equip the DragonSlayer and anything else you want.  He can
only use the DragonSlayer in the final battle so make sure you have max
health when you enter the battle.  Head down to the general area and equip
the sword.  Walk under the painting of Dragon Keela and the screen will
flash.  The screen will fade to black and Keela will revive and become golden
colored.

Boss :  Keela
HP   :  100
Atk  :  10
Touch:  10
Def  :  each shot does 5 damage

You can't switch items during this battle so it's one on one.  You also have
infinite magic so don't worry about running out of it.  Keela will hover
around continuously.  From far away, Keela will do nothing to you but hover.
However, you can't hit him unless you get close.  When you get close though,
Keela will breathe flames on you that take 10 marks per hit.  The hits stun
you temporarily and makes it hard to jump out of the way once you're hit.
You can however exploit a small gap at Keela's feet that is out of the flames
way.  Just attack in this spot and Keela will be a fading memory in no time.
Just be sure to get out of the way as Keela dies.

With Keela dead, the family all walks out (in their house form) and wave.
Then the credits play.

<more details to come later>

=============================================================================
XV.  FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
=============================================================================
Q:  Where are the crowns?
A:  The crowns are located in 4 separate sections of the dungeon.

Q:  Do I have to use all the family members?  And in the order you stated in
   your walkthrough?
A:  No.  However, certain crowns and bosses are easier to beat using certain
family members.  Refer to walkthrough for information on who can reach
   the crowns.

Q:  Where is the shield?
A:  It is located in a hidden shop in Meyna's area.  You need to use Lyll's
mattock to reach it.  Go to Meyna's area and take the big drop.  After
you land, go to the right.  Break the block above you.  It will say
"Inn."  Jump up to change the sign to "Shop."  The shield may be
   purchased for 95 gold.

Q:  What is the secret to the picture of Princess Celina?
A:  The secret is that once you have all 4 crowns, Roas may use a crown while
at the picture by pressing "UP."  This will teleport you to another
location, which leads me to the next question.

Q:  I see the DragonSlayer but the room is sealed.  How do I get in?
A:  Use Roas and get to an area with a volcano in the background.  Ride one
the slime enemies to cross a narrow gap to reach a picture of Princess
Celina.  Use the crown at the picture and you will be teleported to
another area.  Use the crown at the next two pictures you come across and
you'll wind up in the room of the DragonSlayer.  Use the crown once more
   to teleport out.

Q:  I have the DragonSlayer now.  What do I do now?
A:  Pick Roas and have him equip the DragonSlayer.  Walk under the picture of
Keela, the dragon and the dragon will revive.  Proceed to fight the final
   battle.

Q:  I'm getting killed in the final battle because my character keeps getting
hit even though I'm not near Keela.
A:  This problem does not happen in the cartridge and occurs in the emulator
version.  Nesticle and RockNES are emulators in which this problem
occurs.  If you use BioNES, DarcNES, and FW Nes this problem doesn't
happen exactly like this.  In those three emulators, instead of getting
killed, you (and Keela) can't hurt each other.

I imagine it has something to do with the background layering.  It's
either that or the mapper used is wrong since Nesticle uses mapper #2
(MMC3) but the other emulators use mapper #4 I believe.

Q:  Any solutions to the above mentioned problem?
A:  None that I know of at this time.  The infinite life game genie code does
not work nor does the in game cheat code for 128 lives.  The only way to
beat the game would be to play the actual game on cartridge.

Q:  How do I use the glove?
A:  I covered that in section XI, "Using the Glove."

Q:  What are the minimum items you need to finish the game?
A:  I think all you need are the Crowns, Dragonslayer, Jump Shoes, Mattock,
   Rod, and Wings.

Q:  I want more Legacy of the Wizard.  Are there any sequels?
A:  Well yes and no.  Legacy of the Wizard is known as DragonSlayer IV:
Draslefamily in Japan.  Therefore, there are 3 prequels to this game.
And no, I do not know where to find these games as they were never
   released in the U.S.

Q:  Is there any difference between the U.S. and Japanese versions of Legacy
   of the Wizard?
A:  Barring the password and end credits (it is in hiragana), everything
   is exactly the same.

Q:  Any other Legacy of the Wizard information I should know?
A:  Well, if you want to hear an outstanding remixes of the tunes from Legacy
of the Wizard, go to http://www.egm.i-web.net/

Q:  Did someone ask you these questions or did you make them up?
A:  I made them up, thinking someone could potentially ask me these
questions.  And yes, I made this question up as well. ^_^

XVII.  SECRETS AND CODES
=============================================================================
Super Cheat Code (original one from Nintendo Power was inaccurate.)
------------------
This code will give you 16 of every item except for the crowns and
DragonSlayer.  You also will get 128 lives and have access to the sound test.

The code requires 2 controllers, so either get another person to help or put
both controllers close to each other so you can reach them with both of your
hands.  The code is done in 3 steps.

1.  At the title screen, press and hold UP, RIGHT, A, B on controller 2.
While still holding all these buttons, on controller 2, press and hold
DOWN, LEFT, SELECT on controller 1.  Now press START on controller 1.
You will hear a tone indicating that the code was successfully entered.

2.  You may now use the sound test by positioning the cursor over the picture
on the wall and pressing A to cycle through the game's music.

   01:  House                 09:  Open chest
02:  Shop                  10:  Unknown song (Roas?)
03:  Game Over             11:  Main area (painting)
   04:  Introduction          12:  Xemn's area
   05:  End Credits           13:  Meyna's area
   06:  Boss                  14:  Lyll's area
   07:  Outside the house     15:  Pochi's area
08:  Inventory Screen      16:  The Battle with Keela

When you are ready to continue with the code, select Roas.  Now have him
go to the shop outside the house.  Try to buy the crystal even though you
can't afford it.  Obviously, you won't be able to buy it.  Now exit and
check your inventory.  You'll notice that you received free armor.  Now
return to the house.  Select Roas again and select the armor on the
inventory screen.  Equip it.  Your magic bar will slowly deplete since
the armor uses magic.  Now intentionally run out of magic.  You can speed
up the process by firing shots.  When you run out of magic, wait for 1 or
2 seconds with the armor still equipped.  You will hear the same tone
that you heard when you entered the code from part 1.  Now enter the
   house.

3.  Position the cursor so its fingertip is parallel to the eye of the
picture on the wall.  Move the cursor a little to the right but still
keep it parallel with the eye.  Now press and hold LEFT, B on controller
   2.  The cursor will start to move left.  When the tip lands on top of the
picture's eye, press and hold RIGHT on controller 1.  This will stop the
cursor on the eye exactly if you timed it right.  Now with everything
(LEFT, B on controller 2 and RIGHT on controller 1) still held down,
press A on controller 1.  You will hear the tone again indicating that
the code has been successfully entered.  If you don't hear the tone, then
reposition the cursor and repeat this step again.  While you don't have
to be exactly on the pixel of the eye, the game only allows a one or two
pixel range around the eye so the cursor has to be very close if not
   exact.

Now what did the code do?  You already utilized the sound test.  If you check
your inventory now, you will see that you have 16 of every item except for
the crowns and DragonSlayer.  If you grab the special potion in the chest
near the start of the dungeon, you will get 109 keys.  If you grab the
special gold bag several screens to the right, you will get 109 gold.

In addition, you now have 128 lives.  How does this work?  When you die, you
will revive as if you had equipped an elixir.

Note that the password will not save the 16 of every item nor the 128 lives
obtained with this code.  It will only save the keys and gold currently in
your possession.  If you grab another item in a chest when you have 16 of it,
the item will injure you like poison (same sound when you grab it too).
