I. Introduction
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
       My alias is PKT_Paladin, but that is not my name.  For this FAQ you
don't need to know my real name =).  Please don't steal anything from this
FAQ for your site or for your own FAQ unless you provide some sort of credit.
I wrote everything in this FAQ.
       Dragonball Z: Assault of the Saiyans takes place after the original
Dragonball series at the start of the Dragonball Z anime.  If you have seen
the anime than you will surely recognize the same characters, such as Goku,
Piccolo, Raditz, and even Vegeta.  Although this game requires a lot of training,
just like the anime, the game is fun.
v.99            I forgot what I added in this update because I actually
               updated the FAQ a while ago but forgot to submit it.  Maybe
               it is the FAQ section.  Anyhow, I remember going through
               and fixing some little things that needed to be fixed and
               improving the Save-State section with the new ability to
               hack items.
v.98            I added more information from the enemies including HP,
               BP, and more attacks.  Some other small updates were added
               to the other sections as well.  I almost forgot! There
               is a new Save-State hacking section for all of you
               emulation users out there!
v.95            I finished the Walkthrough and added a section for Tips
               and Tricks.
v.90            This is the first version released to the public.  It
               has just about everything about the game with a little
               bit missing from each section.
III. Frequently Asked Questions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a list of questions that are e-mailed to me pretty frequently. If
I answer your question here and you e-mail the same question to me I will
not respond to it so be warned.

Can I post your FAQ on my site?
       Yes, if you have a web site feel free to post my FAQ on it as long
as I am given credit and the FAQ's contents are not modified.  I am keeping
addresses in my address book for those people who have put this FAQ on their
site so I can e-mail those who do with updates.

Where can I get the Dragon Ball Z: Assault of the Saiyans ROM?
       I'm probably not allowed to release that information, so I can't tell
you exactly where to download the ROM.  However, if you like Dragon Ball Z:
Assault of the Saiyans, a great site to check out would be
http://www.dbcollection.com/hage/ ... if you get my drift =)

How do I hack savestates?
       This one's simple.  Download Hex Workshop from download.com.  Install
it, run it, and open up the save state file.  On the left you will see addresses
on the left and 16 columns on the right.  There are actually 16 bytes each in
groups of two.  Observe:

   0 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000
  10 0000 0000 0000 00FF 0000 0000 0000 0000

       The location of the byte FF is actually 17.  In hex, as opposed to
the regular number system we are used to that goes from 0-10, the numbers
go from 0-F (0-10 and then A,B,C,D,E,F).  That means FF is the highest value
and 00 is the lowest (FF is 255 in decimal and 00 is 0).  Find the location
that I have listed in the savestate editting section and modify the bytes
to as high or as low as you desire.  When you are done, save it on the
hexidecimal editor and load it in the emulator and you should be done.

Don't you have any maps for this game?
       I made a "shrine" at RPGClassics.com for this game that contains
maps for every location you go to with detailed information about each map
along with pictures of each character, enemy, and item.  If that's not enough
for you then I don't know what is, but for now this will have to do.  Go
to RPGClassics.com and check out the NES shrines.  Mine should be under
that section.

IV. How to Play
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A.
       This game is very simple, but I'll make it even easier for those
who don't know how to play.  Let's start with the controls:
A:      Used as the affirmative button (to choose options)
B:      Used as the cancel button (to exit out of menus and such)
START:  Calls the menu while you are on the map
SELECT: No use.
       When you first begin the game, you will have to fly around.  Here's
what your screen looks like:
-------------------- A: This is the place where you can see your characters
|                  |    walking around or in battle.
|        A         | B: This is where the menu appears when there is one.
|                  |
|--|--|--|--|--|--|| C: This is where all of the cards you will use to move
| B| C| C| C| C| C||    are located.
--------------------
       To move, you will choose a card from the five cards that you have.
Depending on the number Dragonball in the top-left corner of each card, you
will be able to move a certain number of spaces.  In the menu to the left,
where the letter B is located, you will see the names of the characters in
your group with an arrow pointing to the member who's turn it is.  In window
A, you will see your character moving.
B.
       This is what the cards look like:
-------------------
|    |            |  A: This is the Dragonball that determines how many spaces
| A  |            |     you move and also your attack power.
|----             |
| |-------------| |  B: This is the symbol of the card.  If the symbol matches
| |             | |     the symbol of your character, than your character will
| |             | |     get a temporary boost in power when he attacks.  If it
| |      B      | |     is a symbol that looks like a big X, then you can use
| |             | |     a technique.
| |             | |
| |             | |  C: This is the symbol that determines the power of your
| |-------------| |     defense in battle.  Otherwise, it has no other need.
|             ----|
|            |    |
|            |  C |
-------------------
C.
       Battling in this game is quite simple.  When you battle, you choose
a card for a character to use.  If that card matches the symbol of your character,
he gets a boost of power in battle.  If that card looks like a big X, your
character can use an ability that costs KI.  Furthermore, the number in the
top-left corner is the attack power while the number in the bottom-left corner
is the defense number.  The numbers are in Japanese, but the number that takes
up the most space is the one that you want to choose.
       When you enter a battle, which happens randomly as you move around, you
will see the faces of the enemies that you will have to fight.  You can choose
either Fight, Item, or Run.  Item calls a menu for your items and Run allows
you to try to escape from battle.  If you choose Fight, you pick a card for
each character depending on the strategy above.  If your BP is lower than
your enemy's BP, than you want to use defensive cards and hope to survive.  If
you have a higher BP, you would want to use cards with a higher attack power.
If you have about equal, the choice if up to you, but watch out for KI attacks.
       After gaining enough BP, your level will increase, giving you a bonus
of HP and KI.  However, with every battle, your fighting ability increases.  If
your next level is 4000 BP, while you train to achieve that level your fighting
power will increase anyway.  That's more similar to the way the anime is, but
it is not typical of most RPGs.
D.
       As you travel around on the map, take note of the Healing Houses that
you encounter.  Not only can they heal you, but they can serve as a base for
you to train near to avoid being defeated in combat.
       With exception to the beginning of the game before you defeat Raditz,
and of your characters, if killed by an enemy, can NEVER be revived.  Be sure
not to let your characters die by training them carefully against difficult
enemies and using item cards on them to heal them when necessary.
       You can't throw out your cards, but if you need to get rid of some
crappy cards, like Bulma, use them after your character has lost only a couple
HP.  That way, when you get to a training place which gives you the opportunity
to gain even more cards which will be by far much better than the poor ones
you received early in the game.
V. Minigames
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A. Carrying a rock over a pit
       In this game, after a bunch of text, you will be presented with
an option.  The top option is two play the game using the Attack number (the
Dragonball number) or the Defense number (The number in the lower right-hand
corner [the symbol, but you might not know Japanese].).  If you choose Attack
(I recommend choosing attack if you can't interpret Japanese symbols), you
will have to meet or beat the card that is chosen.  For example, if the
card that pops up is a Dragonball with 7 stars, you can choose either (from
your hand) a card with 7 stars or a card with a Z on it.  If you cross all
five pits, you get some BP, but if you don't get them all (even
if you get 4 out of 5), you don't get any BP.  This game is good for building
BP when you have a high Level number.

B. Card Matching
       In this game, you see your character punching and kicking over to
the left.  Pick the option with two letters and you will play.  If you pick
the other option (no), you won't play and you will exit the game.
       Here's how to play the game:  You have to match either the symbol
in the middle, the symbol in the bottom-right,  or the Dragonball in the top-
left.  You play this game either until you press B to quit or until you mess
up.  If I am not mistaken, the number of BP you get for each match is determined
by your level divided by 2.  That means if you are on Level 4 and you get 50
mathces, you get 100 BP.  If you are on Level 10 and you get 20 matches, you get
100 BP.  This is even more helpful than all of the other minigames.

C. Split-form battling
       In this game, your HP is split in half, your KI is split in half, and
you have to battle yourself.  If you win, you get a large amount of BP, and if
you lose, you get to leave this place with low HP and KI.  I don't recommend
this game unless you have some decent cards, because you can easily earn higher
amounts of BP doing other training.

D. Card Matching (To Win Cards)
       In this game, you select one of your own cards.  Select the card with
the highest number Dragonball on it.  This is how many chances you get at this
game.  For those of us who have played the Memory game, where you flip one card
and flip another to see if there is a match, you will be alarmed at the similarity
between this game and Memory. When you make a match, you get to keep the card that
you matched.  If you match all of the cards, you get to select any card out of the
list of cards they give you.  This game is very useful when you need specific
cards, if you can do the game correctly.  You can get great item cards like
Shenlon or Old Man.

E. Card Matching (To Win Cards) 2
       To win in this game, you have to pick the same card three times. For
example, if Shenlon is picked three times, and the player gets to have a
Shenlon card. This game isn't as good as the first matching game, but if you don't
have any high cards, than you should give it a try. You also have a 50% chance
each time of getting the right card.

F. Catch Bubbles (Goku only)
       In this game, you have to chase Bubbles around King Kai's planetoid.  You
are in a square ring around Bubbles' head and whenever you land on a square with
a training symbol on it, you get your chance to try and catch Bubbles.  It is
nearly impossible to catch him the first time, but that's okay because he
doesn't lose distance the second time or the third time that you play to catch
him.  This game is just like the game where you are jumping over the pits.  You
have to get any number higher or equal to the Dragonball that pops out.  If you
can do it, you get closer to Bubbles.  Otherwise you fall on your face and
he gets distance on you.  When you win you will get 400 BP.

G. Hit Gregory (Goku only)
       This game is very similar to the Catch Bubbles game.  You walk around in
circles until you land on a training symbol and then you try to hit Gregory with
a mallet.  Try to get a number (on the Dragonball) that is higher to the number
that Gregory picks or equal to the number that Gregory picks.  If you are succesful
you will get closer to whacking him on the head.  If you do it perfectly, you will
get him on the second round and you will get 1600 BP.   Otherwise, keep trying
and you will hit him eventually.

VII. Walkthrough
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
       It has been 5 years since Goku's battle with Piccolo, and what's
this?  A Saiyan spacepod hits Earth!  Out of it comes a Saiyan named Raditz
who is curious as to why the planet is not destroyed yet.  He uses his scouter
to search for Goku, or Kakarott (his Saiyan name), but instead he finds Piccolo.
After making Piccolo a bit angry by calling him weak, he finds another strong
power level that happens to be Goku's.
       He follows Goku to Master Roshi's house and introduces his new son,
Gohan.  Although they are in shock, that's not what they talk about.  Soon, the
strong power of Raditz makes it's presence and Raditz appears.  He asks Goku
why the planet hasn't been prepared for the Saiyans to live there, but Goku
seems to have lost his memory.  Raditz invites Goku to kill all of the people
on Earth now, but since Goku declines, Raditz takes Gohan to get "better
acquainted."
       At this point, Piccolo shows up to lend Goku a hand.  This seems
surprising because of the long-time battles that went on between these two,
but they promise that after defeating Raditz, Piccolo will kill Goku.
A. Battle with Raditz
       At this point, your fighters are pretty weak.  It is a good idea to
keep them next to eachother.  If your friends are more than one diagonal square
away from eachother, and one of them gets in a battle, they will have to fight
it alone.  Don't let that happen, because you have a good chance of losing that
fight.
       Be sure to train a lot before you fight Raditz.  Your power level is
low and his is high.  If you would like to do some training, head west over to
Bulma's house.  If not, you have to go to Bulma's house anyway.  So, go to
Bulma's house.
       If you enter Bulma's house as Piccolo, Bulma will be surprised, and she
will not give you the Dragonradar.  As Goku, you will explain the story and
get the Dragonradar.  It would be smart to enter as Goku so you can get the
Dragonradar.
       When you activate the Dragonradar, you will see that the Dragonball
number 4, the one on Gohan's hat, is located to the northeast.   Obviously,
that is where you have to go now, unless you choose to train.
       In this area, you can find some weak enemies and some strong ones.  If
you would like to take Raditz down easily, I suggest you fight all of the
enemies you can until you are sick of this game.  That means getting both
Piccolo and Goku up to about 1500 BP.  When you are at this point, your power
level will be higher than Raditz's and you will be able to defeat him without
any problems.  The best location to do this training would be right next to
Princess Snake's house of healing, and that is located one square north of
Bulma's house.
       After you think that you are well trained, go northeast towards
the place where the Dragonradar says that Raditz is.  You will have to
defeat two Saiyans in their space pods before fighting Raditz, both of
which are extremely weak.  Take them down and continue down the narrow
path until you see Raditz and a spacepod that seems to be screaming
Japanese worsds.  When you approach Raditz, make sure that you do it with
Piccolo and Goku next to eachother, or else you might have to fight him
with just one of you.  If you have a power level of 2000, you can win with
just one of the fighters, but most people don't get their power level that
high before fighting him.
       In the battle, watch out for his KI move.  It is very powerful and
can do up to 70 HP damage with one shot.  Goku had a power level of 1500 (as
well as Piccolo) when I defeated Raditz, and even then it was a slightly
difficult battle.  Use your strongest attacks and KI attacks to defeat him.
B.  Battle with Sansho
       After your victory against Raditz, you will learn that two stronger
warriors are going to go to Earth to kill everyone in one year.  Because of
this, Goku goes with Kami to get special training from King Kai (or Kaioh).
At the same time, Garlic Jr. escapes and swears revenge against Kami and has
plans to get the Dragonballs.
       To take some action, the Z-Fighters go to find the rest of the Dragonballs.
You get to pair the Z-Fighters up into 3 groups of two.  You can pick whichever
you'd like.  Chao-zu and Gohan are the weakest fighters right now, so I would
recommend pairing them up with Piccolo.  Otherwise, pair whoever you'd like.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are playing with the pair of Gohan and Piccolo at any location, Piccolo
will give Gohan a little pep talk about how he has the most potential and that
his power could save the Earth when the Saiyans arrive.  Gohan cowers at the
thought of fighting, but Piccolo forces him to fight anyway.  I just thought
I would mention this because, if you remember, this is what happened in the
cartoon.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
       Now it is time to play as the angel Goku.  Go through Snakeway, playing
the minigames and stuff.  Then, when you get to the end, you will reach King
Kai's planet to train.  Since Goku tells him a good joke, he will allow him to
train there.
       After this, you can play as the Z-Fighters again.  The first group
you picked will be able to play up in the north, looking for a Dragonball.  Since
both members of your group are relatively weak, you will have to train them until
they have about 1500 BP.  By this time, you will be ready to venture away from
Princess Snake's house of healing to do more training!  Isn't training great?
       Before you leave this corner of the map, allow me to tell you what to
expect.  Southeast of your current location are some training places.  Then, to
the East of your Starting point is Baba's house.  To the north of all
of these places is a Healing House as well as another minigame for you to win
some cards.  West of this place is a training game (the same basic concept but
without carrying a rock over some pits) and Puar's house.  Finally, if you follow
the path south between the healing house and Puar's house, you will find another
Healing House and Sansho who has the 2nd Dragonball.
       Did you catch all that?  If you didn't, don't worry.  Just follow the
basic path and you'll do fine.  Before you fight Sansho, I suggest building your
fighters up to a power level of 2000.  You don't have to, but I did, and I was
able to take this jerk out in about 2 or 3 rounds.
       Here's what to do in your battle.  You will be approached by Sansho who
is hiding behind two of the losers you've already beaten plenty of times: Jasmine
and Herb.  Take them out easily in one turn and get hit once by Sansho.  The damage
won't be severe, especially since both of your characters will have between 225-325
HP.  Now it is your turn to attack.  Hopefully, you have a technique card and you
can use it on Sansho.  Use your most powerful attacks (the most powerful is the one
that uses the most KI points) and you will be able to sink this guy easily.  If
you aren't strong enough, and you have Chao-zu in your party, use Super Skill.  If
you don't have Chao-zu, use the Old Man card and that will stun him (the same effect
as if you had used Super Skill).  Sansho will fall and you will get the 2nd Dragon-
ball.
C.  Battle with Nikki
       Now that Sansho has fled you can continue your training with Goku on
King Kai's planet.  Please see the minigames section to find information about
this training game (with Bubbles) that you are about to play.
       When you are done playing the minigame with Bubbles, you will play as the
second pair of Z-Fighters that you have chosen.  I would use the same strategy as
before with training these warriors, and that is hanging out near the Healing
House that you start at and training until you have a high BP level.  Nikki is
just about as strong as Sansho, so you would want to be as strong as the first
pair of Z-Fighters that you chose.  In this area, you will find the same
enemies and basically the same training places and houses.  South of your
starting point is a Healing House and Baba's House.  Also, in this area, you
will find Ooolong's House to the west, more Healing Houses, and more training
areas.  If you head directly southwest, you will find Nikki and his two cohorts
ready to defend their Dragonball.
       In the battle, kill Jasmine and Cinnamon before even worrying about
Nikki.  This way, you won't have to worry about these two wimps bothering you
further along the line in the battle.  To defeat Nikki easily, use strong KI
attacks and high attack cards.  Although Nikki has a lot of HP, he is an easy
win since at a high enough level he won't even deal that much damage to you.
If you win, you will get 58 BP and the 5-star Dragonball.
D.  Battle with Ginger
       After this victory, you will play as the Angel Goku and you will train
by trying to hit Gregory, King Kai's star pupil, in the head with a mallet.  This
game is EXACTLY like the game with Bubbles, but I wrote the directions over
again and you can check them out at the minigames section.
       Now it is time to play as the final pair of Z-Fighters.  To the south
of the start of this area, you will find Bab's house, a training game to
win some nice cards, a Healing House, and a training area.  East of your start
is a whole group of training squares as well as another Healing House.  You
will also find the Grandfather's house in the corner.  Southeast of the start
is Ginger who has the 7th Dragonball.  After training, be sure to head there
and take him out.
       Ginger, like the other two losers that you had to fight before him,
is pretty weak if you trained properly.  Take out Cinnamon and Herb, his two
guards, and then work on him.  Use powerful KI attacks to sink him in a few
rounds.  Then, he will run away and you will get teh 7-star Dragonball.
E.  Battle with Garlic Jr. + Saiyans
       You finally made it to Garlic's castle.  Now that you are here, it is
time to go inside and destroy the evil Garlic.  As Piccolo says, nobody knows
what is waiting inside, but I do, so I will tell you.  There is a great opportunity
in here to train, so I suggest you do so.  You can win up to 56 BP per battle
which can greatly help your battle power.  After you are done training, if
you decide to do so, ho north, make a right, go south, make a right, and then
go north.  You will be confronted by Nikki, Sansho, and Ginger.  Since they
were no threat before, they still are not now.  Use powerful attacks (but not
TOO powerful.  You don't have to use KI attacks) and take them down.  After
defeating them, pass (or go back to the Healing House if you are that badly
injured) and confront Garlic Jr.
       Garlic Jr. is not as difficult to deal with in the beginning of the fight,
but after defeating him the first time he transforms and becomes very powerful.  Save
all of your KI attacks until he transforms in order to defeat him for 150 BP.  When
you win you will get the 1-star Dragonball and you can revive Goku.  At this time,
also, Goku has finished his training, so you can be revived.
       Wait a minute! Before Goku leaves, he has to fight King Kai!  This battle
is pretty simple even though King Kai is much stronger than Goku.  If you don't
win the first round, and you shouldn't, you can win the second round easily.
Goku's HP is replenished each time he loses, but King Kai's HP remains the same
until you defeat him.  When you do, you get an astounding 5600 BP.  This will make
Goku far stronger than King Kai, but not as strong as the Saiyans that are coming
to Earth.
       Goku contacts Kame and tells him to call Shenlon, so he and Bulma do.
Goku starts heading back after bidding farewell to King Kai.  At this time, the
Saiyans arrive.  This is bad news.  Nappa "greets" the planet by destroying
a city.  Vegeta uses his scouter to try and find the power that defeated Raditz,
but he can't find it.  Goku is still in another dimension, so his scouter can't
trace through to him.  Until then, he decides to explore to find whatever power
he can to destroy and take over the planet.
       You will now be able to play as the Z-Fighters.  You are in the southwest
corner.  I suggest you train for the battle that you are going to have to fight.
Nappa's power level is about 4000, so if you want to beat him without losing
any members of your team, you should train to about 4500 for each character.  This
will help tremendously in your fight against him and Vegeta.  In this area, you
will be able to gain about 56 BP per battle.  The enemies here are easy and hard
at the same time in that the hard ones appear in groups with the easy ones.
       Your first battle (with the exception of the other ones you fought with
Kaiware, etc;) is your battle against 6 Saibamen.  If you have a power level of
4500 like I did as a result of training so much at Garlic Jr.'s castle, you will
take these guys out without any problem at all.  If you don't, your power leevl will
be somewhere up there, so you should attack using strong cards and KI attacks.
Since Piccolo will be the strongest one in your group, use his Ray Cannon on one
of the Saibamen and have everyone else attack the others.  This probably won't kill
the first Saibaman, but it will take away a good portion of their HP, and your
other characters will have probably killed the second.  Now, use someone weak
to finish off the first Saibaman and kill number 3 with everyone else.  Do
the same with 4 through six and you will win easily.
       If you happened to have a hard time with this battle, don't worry, because
there is a Healing House just after it.  Go inside and heal everyone back to full
health.  Then, continue south to fight Nappa.
       Even though Nappa looks like a complete idiot, he's still pretty powerful.
That's not something to worry about, though, because Goku's BP is double the amount
of Nappa's.  Speaking of Goku, who rejoins you at this battle, you will notice
that Goku has many new attacks, including the Energy Ball attack.  This attack
can take away about 500 HP from Nappa it if is used with the right card.  You might
not be able to use this attack because Goku has not been healed since your fight with
King Kai.  Use a Mr. Popo card on him to heal his BE.  Nappa can deal some painful
blows if you have a small defense card, but that's not too big of a deal
because he will be taken down easily with Goku's new power and the combination of
everyone else's.
       After winning, assuming that you did (and you should have), go back to
the Healing House.  This will heal Goku's HP and the rest of the HP that everyone
else needs to be healed before the fight with Vegeta.  Then, head south to a
turn in the path.  If you continue south here, you will find a minigame to win
some cards that will help you greatly in this fight.  Otherwise, if you already
have some Grandpa cards, at least one Shenlon, many Mr. Popo's, and any of a
couple Healing cards, you will be set.  You will need Mr. Popo's ability to heal
BE so you can recharge Goku's BE after every two rounds.
       Regardless of your choice, you will have to head north and battle Vegeta.
His power level is at 18000 so you can imagine that this will not be an easy battle.
He can deal up to 150 damage, and everyone else, with the exception of Goku, can
deal about 10.  Be sure to use up your Grandpa and Yajirobe cards now so you can
give him a little damage and stun him at the same time.  When you run out of Grandpa
cards, use Chao-zu's Super Skill attack and stun him every turn if possible.  For
the attacks, be sure to use Goku's Energy Ball to hit Vegeta for up to 135 HP damage.
Everyone else will attack normally for about 40 damage combined until Vegeta finds
himself a weak card in Defense.
       Beware, however, Vegeta has some strong attacks.  If any characters in
your group die during this fight, they won't get the BP from defeating Vegeta, and
they won't be given a password to fight in the Budokai.  Use Healing cards whenever
any character has lower than 300 HP.  For some reason, Vegeta had a tendency to
beat up Yamcha all the time, so I just took him out of the fight and didn't
attack with him.
       Should you be successful by delivering a barage of Energy Ball attacks,
use Mr. Popo's card to restore Goku's BE.  Then, after what seems like forever,
Vegeta will fall.  He will run away in a Spacepod, but the Z-Fighters sense a
stronger force out in space.  I guess they have to think of a reason for the
Z-Fighters to go to Namek to find the Dragonballs because Piccolo didn't die
along with Yamcha, TenShinHan, and Chao-zu like in the anime series.  Well,
you've beaten the game, and after getting your passwords, you can move onto
Dragonball Z 2: Lord Frieza's Fury!
VIII. Tips and Tricks
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A. Card Selection (Moving around on the map)
       Go near a location that you can enter and exit easily, like
a Healing House or something.  Use a crappy card to enter, then when
you are done inside, use another crappy card to enter again.  For
this to work, however, all of your cards have to be even.  if they
aren't, you can move one space, hoping you won't get into a battle.
If you do, run away or use the bad cards up during the fight.  This
will help you get all of the KI attack cards so you can blast
your enemies to death quickly when you have to fight a difficult
boss.

B. Card Selection (Items)
       An emulator with the Save State and Load State feature is required,
or else great skill in the matching game is required, for this trick.
       In the game, when you land on a square with a Z and a red background,
you will be given the privelage of playing a mini-matching game to win
some item cards.  If you select a high enough number of your own cards,
you will get a lot of chances to win.  If you are able to clear every single
match, you will get to choose any card that you would like to keep (possibly
along with all of the others that you matched).

C. Easy training
       An emulator with the Save State and Load State feature is required
for this trick.
       When you go to a training area where you have to match anything on
the card with anything in your hand, I have a neat little trick for you that
you might not have already thought of.  Before picking the card, Save your
State.  That way, when the card comes up, you will be able to match it, and
if not, you can Load your State and you will be able to choose either a
different card, or the card you already chose will be a completely different
one.  This applies with most of the training games in this game, but if
you want to rack up the most BP quickly, doing the one I described will
work best.

D. No Random Battles or More Random Battles
       An emulator with the Save State and Load State feature is required
for this trick.
       While you are on the map flying around, pick a card and move that
many spaces.  Don't press A to go to that place yet, however.  Instead, Save
your State.  Now, press A to go to the location you have selected.  When
you get there, you will be in a battle, or perhaps not.  You can use this
to your advantage if you need to train or if you are sick of battling, you
can control the amount of battles you have.  If you are not in a battle, Load
the State and try again.  On the other hand, if you don't want to battle and
you are thrusted into one, Load the State and try again.  This is very
useful when your characters need to conserver their HP and BE for a tough
battle.

E. Battling as a Team rather than as One
       During the game, for the most part, you have to fly around as
two different people.  Here's a tip for you:  Keep them close together!  Let's
use Piccolo and Goku for an example.  If you are flying around, make Piccolo
end up in the space either adjacent to Goku or diagonally from Goku.  This
way, if you wind up in a battle, both fighters can battle the enemies rather
than just one.  Not only will this put the odds in your favor, but it will also
give both fighters the BP for victory.  The BP is not divided between fighters.

F. What's Chichi doing here?
       If you are a cheater, you can turn one of your characters into
Chichi.  Enter the correct digit 1F and your character will become Chichi
depending on which slot you chose.  Be warned though, if your saved state is
on the map, Chichi will disappear as soon as a character makes a move.  If,
however, you put Chichi as an active character in battle, she will be fully
playable until the end of the battle.
       She has two moves: Energy Wave and Kankousen which both cost 0 BE (which
is strange considering she has 80 BE when you play as her).  She is extremely
weak and when you use her KI techniques the game glitches.  After any battle,
if she is still alive, it will say that her level increased and that her HP
has become about 80 and her BE has become about 40000.  Unfortunately, you
cannot keep her afterwards.

XI. Save-State Hacking
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
       Hacking Save-States is fun because you get to cheat. Many people
would rather just cheat in this game instead of playing forever to build
BP to be able to win, and if you are one of those people, today is your
lucky day!
       In order to cheat using this method, you will need to have a HexEditor
(which can easily be found at http://www.download.com/ ) and an emulator to
play the game. For all of that stuff, including the translated ROM, go here:
http://www.dbcollection.com/hage/ . Then, once you have those items, you are
ready to begin.  If you are using a different emulator send me an e-mail if the
correct offsets aren't listed here and I'll try and find them.
Hacking Glitches:
       If you change which character is which, you will only be
able to keep the characters that are supposed to be in your party.
For example, if in the beginning of the game you put Gohan as the
third character, he will be gone after either a battle or any
movement on the map.  I can't figure out why this happens but if
anyone knows I'd appreciate knowing why.  However, if you'd really
like to cheat, you can have a bunch of Goku & Piccolo clones, and
later in the game you can have even more different types.
       If you have any extra party members besides one Goku and one
Piccolo as a result of save-state hacking you should remove them.
In the next section of the game when you choose your party members
for the different explorations, you will wind up having too many
and the game will freeze.
       You should leave the last six spaces blank when hacking
the items.  If you have any event items, such as the Dragonradar,
you won't have them anymore because you aren't supposed to fill
in these last spaces.  They are reserved for event items like
this and can be easily lost this way.  Also, the event items will
appear immediately after the first 00 that you put in your items
list.
