Daiva FAQ v1.0

Hello and welcome to my Daiva: "Imperial of Nirsartia" walkthrough. Daiva is a
Japanese exclussive game for the Famicom (NES to many of us) made by Toshiba
Emi 20 years ago. In it, you travel from one planet to another freeing them
from the forces of evil in a humanoid mecha capable of some fast paced (for the
NES) action and waging war on them in space in a ship-to-ship strategy battle.
The walkthrough that follows is for the default difficulty setting and your
experiences may vary. If they do, feel free to drop me an e-mail at the
address listed below.
>>> Controls

Up: Jump
Down: Duck

Ship:
Up: Speed up
Down: Slow down
Left/Right: Rotate your ship left or right
Space Battle:
Up/Down/Left/Right: Move the cursor up, down, left or right
A: Select
B: Cancel
>>> The Map
The map is a pretty simple representation of the space around you. At the
center of each red mark is a planet you haven't rescued yet, and likewise for
the blue marks are planets you have rescued. The Yellow mark is your home
planet and acts as the starting point for the directions given to each planet
in the walkthrough below.
>>> Home Base
The yellow mark on the map represents your home base. After each planet you
can return here to earn new ships for the space battles and get your password.
As the passwords are in Japanese and my earnest suggestion is to avoid the
space battles, however, it's reallt not necessary to visit here often.
>>> The Planets
There are only a couple things you needs to know about the planets that aren't
directly part of the walkthrough. When you get to a planet and select it you
are first shown a stage preperation screen. On this screen you are shown two
stats; Enemy and Gravity. The first is a indicator of how hard te level will
be, the second is how high you will be able to jump. Pretty simple.
In addition to this you'll see three icons at the top. These icons represent
missles strikes, shield replensishments and of course a screen clearing bomb,
respectively. You will want to have your shield icon (the white one) set in
the last block (The 14th one, all the way to the right) so that you will be
going into the boss fight at full health. The missles are good to put anywhere
you may have a long string of enemies to worry about as it causes several
missles to be shot from the left side of the screen during that section of the
level. The bomb does a single, screen clearing attack. Unfortunately the bomb
is very difficult to make full use of because there are rarely more than four
enemies on screen at once, but at least it does something (if you don't place
it in the wrong spot).
>>> Space Battles
During a space battle you are met by a group of enemy ships. At the beginning
of each round you move your ships into a possition where you can hit them with
your weapons. Any rocks on the field will stop missles but not lasers so take
that into consideration as you move your ships. Because the space battles are
not necessary to complete the game, however, I strongly suggest you simply
avoid them unless you find them to be an amusing side-quest.
>>> Increasing your life bar
After completing Vlitra, Ousha and Daikes my character's shields increased.
For each of those I beat they increased by two. These were the 6th, 12th and
13th stages I completed, respectively, and your ability to increase your
shields could be affected by either how many planets you beat or which ones you
beat. This is something I haven't tested yet, but my email is at the end of
the FAQ in the event that I am incorrect.
>>> Walkthrough
For the Walkthrough I have each planet listed by the number given in the game.
When actually playing you'll want to find the planets with the lowest number
for their Enemy stat to start on the easiest stages. Bellow is a list of each
stage grouped by difficulty.
Easiest - Tokiro (11)
Easy - Tiseen (05), Kohiro (10), Seatuka (14), and Vlitra (15)
Moderate - Uro (04), Ousha (06), Rousa (08), Jeie (12)
Hard - Jeiken (02), Sito (07), Myute (09), Kayoka (13)
Hardest - Matur (01), Daikes (03)
Planet 01 Matur (Up and left, past Sito)
Enemy - 8
Gravity - 6
Matur offers little defence to start with, but soon you will meet with a few
quick fliers that will do loops and fire at you. They wouldn't be much of a
threat normally, but this time they come in pairs and as one pair is in the
middle of its loop the next comes in at you keeping your threat count constant
until they are replaced by multi-shot balls. This spot, the third on your
stage prep screen, makes for a very good palce to put some missles.
Once you hit there water you will see two waves of zig-zagging fliers. They'll
be followed up by a few of the randomly moving enemies and another two waves of
ziggers. Just make sure to take the low ground when the water runs out and
dodge the shots of the jumping enemies that will usually hit the platforms
safely above your head. Just keep under the platforms as much as possible and
they should be easy enough to evade.
When you hit the second body of water stay in the left corner. While you are
there one wave of missles and four waves of enemies will fly harmlessly by.
They are followed up by a few enemies that move around at random while shooting
at you. Be careful as they will follow you until you reach the boss if you
don't kill them.
Boss tip: Once you start to see the boss begin firing rigth away. If you're
on ground level you'll take out the first of his four segments. From there
just keep jumping and firing until the boss falls.
Planet 02 Jeiken (Up and right, past Rousa)
Enemy - 7
Gravity - 6
Right off the bat you'll be faced with a few enemies that fly at you in a
zig-zag while firing. After the zig-zaggers have gone by you will see several
smokestacks. Just stay low until you see smokestacks that release enemies as
the ones that simply release smoke can't hit you. The enemies that come out of
here will fly straight up then come at you while shooting, but some simple
evasive manuevers (or a bomb) will see you through.
Once you are past the smoke stack few random enemies come at you. These
enemies do shoot, but they don't bother to come in numbers at first so you are
mostly safe. They will be followed up by a couple of multi-shot balls and two
waves of the ziggers from the beginning of the stage.
A little bit past the half way mark you'll see rocks flying at you. They are
easy to destroy, though, so they aren't a cause for concern. They are followed
immeadiately by enemies that comes straight at you from the upper right corner.
If you jump they'll follow you, and they shoot at you as well.
Boss tip: Just stay on the ground level, shoot as rapidly as possible, and
dodge the shots from above. Once you have the first segment killed it's
another jump and shoot afair.
Planet 03 Daikes (Down and right, in the corner)
Enemy - 8
Gravity - 5
Daikes leads off with enemies from the left side. During my first attempts at
this stage I actually fell directly on to the first one, they come so quickly,
so watch out. They are followed up by homing missles that thankfully can't
turn around. If you stay to the right side of the screen both waves will miss
you completely. Once the second wave passes quickly move to the left side of
the screen to avoid two waves on non-homing missles.
After you've passed all of the missles you'll be met with three waves of
enemies that that fly in a wave pattern and shoot at you. Their pattern is
very simple and their shots are easy to dodge, so don't worry, just get ready
for the multi-shot balls that come up next.
The red water in this stage is pretty easy to get through, just stay in the
water and keep shooting. If you try to go over the water not only do you have
enemy shots to worry about but you also have to deal with missles, neither of
which are a threat when you're in the water, so stay low. After the water
there will be a handful of jumpers, but the leave as quickly as they come and
only get one shot at you. From here you can just stay as low as possible and
only shoot if something will hit you until you reach the boss.
Boss tip: You can easily get on the flat surface in front of the boss and take
out the first segment while ducking because the boss only shoots in a straight
line. Once that is taken care of move backwards to the lowest point of the
screen and wait for gaps in the boss's shots so that you can jump up and shoot
him.
Planet 04 Uro (Down and slightly right)
Enemy - 6
Gravity - 4
Like all of the other planets close to home, Uro is pretty much devoid of
threats. When you are almost to the end of the stage you will see a few balls
that explode into six directions. Until the boss these are the only things
that should even have a shot at hitting you, and they're not hard to dodge at
all.
Boss tip: Stand on the platform to the left and rapidly fire until the first
two segments are destroyed. Because the enemy shoots missles that only fire
straigth out you have little to worry about until you have to start jumping to
destroy the other two segments.
Planet 05 Tiseen (Down and left)
Enemy - 5
Gravity - 4
At the beginning of the level you will be greeted be a few slow flying bombers
that come in two waves. Don't worry about killing them, though, because after
they make their one pass they'll fly off the screen never to be seen again.
From this point on just stay as low as possible and you shouldn't have any
problem until you see a few enemies that slowly float to the bottom of the
screen. They are easily dispatched and conveniently act as a warning for your
next "challenge". A few enemies will fly in from the upper left corner, stop
in the middle of the screen, then fly to the lower left corner. To evade them
altogether simply stay in the lower right corner until the second wave passes,
then stay in a crouching possition until you reach the boss.
Boss tip: To take out the first two segments of the boss stand on the platform
to the left and keep shooting. You'll counter all of their shots and the other
two segments will shoot over your head leaving you safe until you're ready to
finish the boss off.
Planet 06 Ousha (Left)
Enemy - 6
Gravity - 6
At the start you are faced with a small handful of jumping enemies, they'll get
off a shot or two but they are very easily ignored other than that.
Afterwards you are faced with smokestacks. Just get to the lowest part of the
screen, though be in the middle of it to dodge the missles that are coming, and
duck until you see a multi-shot ball.
Two-thirds of the way through the stage you'll be met with a few of the
randoming moving enemies you should be pretty familiar with already. A bomb
can shut them quickly, or you can just dodge left and right until they go away.
Try to be on the left-hand side of the screen when you're done with them,
though, as a few enemies will fly in from that side right over your head and
keep going. They come in four wave and are the last enemies before the boss so
you're in the clear.
Boss tip: While the boss is on a flat surface the area leading up to it is at
an incline. You should be able to stand part way on the incline or duck on the
flat surface to take out the first segment. The boss's shots only go straight,
so don't worry about dodging. The second and third parts are on the same
level, so you'll have to persevere to take them out. Just keep shooting and
jumping and the boss will eventually die.
Planet 07 Sito (Up and left)
Enemy - 7
Gravity - 6
Sito is full of enemies that blend right into the environment. If you don't
know they are coming their shots can take you by suprise, as can running into
them (though often you are able to move right through them safely). After two
or three segments of the stage you'll be met by your first moving enemies.
They, thankfully, stand out very well. Just take the high ground for the rest
of the stage and prepare yourself for multi-shot balls.
If you jump or fall into the water start shooting rapidly as there are bubbles
that can appear quite quickly. Once you reach the shore you're met by a
handful of enemies that come up from the ground and shoot while flying straight
at you followed by a few zig-zagging foes. This is a pretty good place for a
bomb or missle, just to keep it as easy as possible, with the zigger located in
the 9th and 10th blocks on the stage prep screen.
Boss tip: This boss is exactly like the one on Ousha (above). Once you have
taken out the first segment just look for gaps in the boss's shots and keep
shooting.
Planet 08 Rousa (Up and slightly right)
Enemy - 6
Gravity - 6
After gettng past the enemies that move at random (as seen on Uro, but without
the shooting) you'll be met be some multi-shot balls. They come at you while
there are other enemies on the screen so many of their shots won't get anywhere
near, but stay on your toes anyway. No need to get hit against an easy enemy.
After passing the stationary enemies that follow the multi-shot balls you will
eventualy be met by a few enemies that come from the left side of the screen.
Just stay to the middle and they should be easy to jump over. Be aware,
however, that they come in two waves, so you'll want to stay in the middle of
the screen until you reach the boss.
Boss tip: Just keep jumping and shooting until the four segments of the boss
are destroyed. There is no real pattern to how they shoot, they just aim for
wherever you are standing at the time, so keep moving.
Planet 09 Myute (Left and slightly up, or directly right of Sito)
Enemy - 7
Gravity - 6
From the start you'll be met by multi-shot balls. By the time you come here
you should be quite familiar with them and everything else you face. Just keep
to the lower left of the screen when you can, especially after the enemies that
fly downwards at an angle since they are followed up by a group of enemies that
will comes from the left side and fly right by you in three or four waves.
Once you've finished with about half the stage you will see a few jumping
enemies that shoot at you. They don't stick around long and there are several
platforms here so they shouldn't be a threat to you. Once you have passed the
platforms there is an open area where enemies comes from the bottom of the
screen and shoot at you while flying your direction then a group of enemies
that move alogn the ground shooting at you. If you've done these stages in
order of difficulty you should have the skills to get past these foes.
Boss tip: The platform towards the middle of the screen has two levels to it.
Standing on the lower one gives you a clear shot at one segment and the higher
one gives you a clear shot at a second one. Be aware that this enemy's shots
will be directed to wherever you are standing, though by the time I got here I
had 12 life and could take the hits, so you may have to dodge a bit.
Planet 10 Kohiro (Right)
Enemy - 5
Gravity - 6
Like many of the easy areas you simply have to stay low to the ground and shoot
anything that would run straight into you for most of the stage or dodge back
and forth to avoid anything that migth fall on you. There is one set of slow
moving bombers about two thirds of the way through the stage, but they are very
simple to dodge without even jumping. Make sure you stick to the left hand side
of the screen as much as possible, as a few leaping enemies will come out
at you (and jump right over your head if you follow my advice) just before the
boss.
Boss tip: Hop on the raised platform and start blasting (but be sure to dodge
projectiles), you'll take out the first segment quickly. The second segment
can be hit from the same spot by ducking or you can stand on the slightly
raised of the ground for a straigth shot. Once half of its firepower is gone,
this boss is a piece of cake.
Planet 11 Tokiro (Up)
Enemy - 4
Gravity - 5
For the first half of the level the enemies do not attack you. Simply don't
run into them and they will be a piece of cake. Once you have gone about half
way through the stage you will see a small ball fly towards you then stop. It
will explode into six shots each flying outwards in a different direction
unless you shoot it first. Be careful not to stand under it, though, as it
shoots vertically and diagonally.
After you've made your way past the exploding balls you will find yourself in a
small body of water. Shoot the bubbles in the water and stay to the left of
the screen to avoid the missles. Make sure you're on low ground and duck as
there will be a few jumping enemies after this. If you just keep duckign they
shouldn't be able to hit you.
Boss tip: Stand at the lowest point on the ground (you'll have to jump after
you get past the last set of enemies in the stage) and fire rapidly to take out
the first portion of the boss. Then just jump and shoot to finish it off.
Planet 12 Jeie (Down and Left, past Tiseen)
Enemy - 6
Gravity - 6
At the start of the stage enemies will come up from the bottom of the screen
and shoot at you. They only get one shot apiece, then they will fly straight
towards you then off screen. After dispatching those foes you'll be met with
a few missles. Just move to the middle of the screen while staying low and all
four waves will fly right over your head.
Once you've dodged the missles you'll be greeted by enemies will fly around at
random while shooting, then eventually fly away. Once they are gone, a few
quick moving enemies will come at you from the left in two waves. They're
pretty fast and they track you if you can't hide in the lower left corner, so
be prepared to dodge.
Once you've reached the red water you'll need to lay down some rapid fire. The
enemies in the water shoot at you if you try to go above them and the pop up
pretty quickly. After you've cleared the water you will meet with some
stationary foes followed by a wave of fliers that will do a loop om mid flight
and finished off with a handful of jumpers.
Boss tip: As soon as you see the boss coming (after passing the last four
turrents) start shooting from fround level to take out the first segment then
jump and shoot to finish off the rest.
Planet 13 Kayoka (Straight up, past Tokiro)
Enemy - 7
Gravity - 4
After the first wave of leaping enemies passes you will be met by some enemies
coming from the left hand side of the screen. Be prepared because they move
rather quickly, though they don't come in large numbers.
Afterwards you will come to a spot where there are a few zig-zaggers followed
by a few bouncing enemies, both shooting at you. They should be quite easy to
dodge without jumping, so just stay low and move all the way back to the left
when they pass so that the next two waves of enemies will fly right over your
head. This is followed by another set of ziggers and bouncers AND several
enemies that fly around at random shooting at you until they fly off the
screen.
From this point they really start to put the heat on, first with a few
multi-shot balls then with three waves of flying enemies that shoot at you
rather quickly and move in a looping pattern. These guys are tough to dodge,
especially without jumping, so be on your toes. Once they have finished their
runs rust hide out in the left hand corner and watch the missles fly over your
head until you reach the boss.
Boss tip: If you've been to Tiseen, Seatuka, or Uro you know exactly how this
is going to go down before you even see the boss. On approach you will see the
infamous "Platform on the Left" coming right away, and that point is the key to
your already easy victory against this missle shooting foe.
Planet 14 Seatuka (Down and right)
Enemy - 5
Gravity - 4
At the very start you'll be greated by the multi-shot balls. They aren't all
that hard to dodge, though, so as long as you know they are coming you are
fine. They'll be back again around the halfway mark, but they represent your
only challenge on Seatuka.
Boss tip: Stand on the left platform and rapidly fire into the on comming
missles. You'll take them out, and the lower two segments of the boss as well.
Once you have that taken care of yo ucan drop to the bottom of the screen to
make it easier to jump the right height to finish the rest off.
Planet 15 Vlitra (Up and right from Rousa, not on the map)*
Enemy - 5
Gravity - 8
From the start you are faced with a few stationary enemies that fire at you.
They aren't a real threat nor are the bombers that follow them up. After
passing up the early defences you are met with several multi-shot balls. Not
only are they cooler looking than versions found on other planets, but they
also pose a real risk due to the layout of the stage and the high gravity. Try
to shoot them down before they get you, and remember that they don't fire
horizontally.
Here you will again be met by slow moving bombers that are followed by more of
the stationary targets from the beginning. There are also a few enemies that
come from the upper rigth corner, but they only stop in the middle of the
screen for a second before flying back to the upper right corner. After this
point there are a handful of turrets then the boss.
Boss tip: First, jump and shoot to takt out the upper segment. Once the enemy
fire has been reduced get up close so that you can drop down to the bottom of
the screen. This puts you level with the second segment for an easy kill.
Once you only have the middle section remaining jump back up then fire while
making very small jumps. The boss will go down in no time.
*Note: During my first run through the game this what where Vlitra could be
found. On a second run through I have difficulties finding it again so it may
either only be found after defeating several planets or it might move between
games.
>>>The End
Once you've saved all of the planets a message will come up, sadly in Japanese
which I don't read, apparently congratulating you on saving the *ahem* 14
planets. That's it, you're done, and all you get is a screen of text telling
you so. Quite a let down for how fun this game turns out to be once you get
the hang of it.
>>>Thanks
My thanks go out to CJayC for running the greatest gaming site ever, the people
at the NES FAQ Completion Project* for their great list of un-FAQ'd games, and
you for being the only person to read this that didn't have to. :)
