1.Introduction
Released on March 19th, 1999, by Genki, this is a sequel to the first baseball
game on the N64. The series was overshadowed and outsold by the Power Pro series
and this game is now more famous for it's rarity than it's gameplay.
It features 16 teams and their stadiums including some fantastical teams and
stadiums. Some sources claim only 3,000 copies were ever made/sold. During its
production, Genki was working on several other N64 games, and the game missed
it's release date by a year. As the scenario game recreated some of the famous
moments in the 1998 real life Japan baseball league this created a problem as
the game had to be released as soon as possible in order to be relevant. Perhaps
these delays, and the other titles that Genki were spending money on explain the
low print run.
Players abilities rank from F to S Star ranks. It is possible to edit a player
so much that he can play all positions on the field effectively. N64 Magazine, a
U.K. publication did not review this game, but they did review the first one ,
giving it 68 percent.
117 pages are required to save the game. The game will prompt you on start up,
if you do not have enough space.
I wish to thank Shellshocker18 for his help with this guide. He has been
tirelessly playing through Japanese N64 games in order to write a full history
of the N64. He has played and completed more Japanese games than anyone else,
and has an extensive wealth of knowledge about the N64 and it's games. Thank you
for preserving video game history through your writing and research! I highly
recommend you check out his youtube channel for obscure N64 game footage!
According to Shellshocker18 this game stands out from the other basball games on
the N64 because it's batting detection works in 3D. Unlike the other baseball
games, which detect if the ball is hit based on when you swing, this game allows
you to hit the ball from anywhere, including for example, hitting the back of
the ball with the handle of the bat. It also features the professional voice
talents of baseball commentator Hideo Matsumoto. Additionally it is the only
baseball game to support the rumble pak, possibly because the other games rely
on the controller pak to save data. The game has a stronger emphasis on realism
than the first game, and the individual player stats really do make a difference
in the game play.
As a Brit I know nothing about baseball, so please forgive any errors in terms I
may make. It's even possible that some cricket terminology might accidentally
slip in instead, sorry gov'ner!

Create Mode
Open Competition
This is a quick match mode. After choosing this mode you will be asked whether
you want to play against a human or computer player. Press Start on another
controller to add another player and the A Button to confirm. Then you are free
to choose your team (see below). The following menu will then be shown. あり means
with or on, and なし means without or off.
Innings - 1-9
DH- on or off
Extended innings - 10-15 or none
Called points - 1-10 or none
Wind - on or off
Error calls - on or off
CPU Difficulty - From 1 - 5 strength
Injuries - on or off
Chief Umpire - From a choice of 3
It will then show you your team and you can press C right and left on each
player to check their stats(see below). You can switch players around using the
A button. On the next screen you can choose which players will automatically be
controlled by the CPU for you by press the Z Trigger or R Button. On the next
screen the following game settings can be changed.
Display lost points - on, once, twice, or off
Display the throwing cursor - on, once, twice, or off
Display the batting cursor - on, lock on, normal, or off
Next you can choose the stadium to play at. You can also select night or day
time by pushing up and down. After choosing a stadium the game will start.
Edit Mode
This mode allows you to create your own players and teams. The main menu has the
following options;
Draft - Each team will bid for a player or a lottery will be held.
Three faces - All Star Organization (moves pro players around teams)
Main menu picture - Return to the main menu
Two players - Trade players between teams
Draft Player Data - Look at the data of drafted players
Create Mode
This time you can create foreign players or Japanese players. You can make up to
40 foreign players and set their stats very high. But, they cannot earn all of
the special moves, and you cannot train them any further, unlike the Japanese
players. The attributes of the foreign players are partially created via answers
you give at a press conference, which is a nice touch.
You can also create up to 12 Japanese high school graduate players. This is done
in a mini story mode which takes about 10 minutes, and tells the story of a
student trying to be picked for the very popular Japan High School Baseball
Championship or Koshien. This may sound familiar to you if you have played Power
Pro Baseball 5. It seems that Genki tried their best to follow the competition
this time.
Based on your performance in the story mode matches your character stats will be
set. However if you fail to perform well you will be kicked out of the team and
forced to start over again. Eventually you will asked to choose which
professional team you are aiming to join. If your dream team does not pick you,
you can continue playing baseball at college in order to gain the notice of said
team. The mode ends when you finally become a pro player.
Options
Sound - Stereo or Mono
Sound effects - Commentary and crowd, commentary only, crowd only
Screen Settings - Turn replays on or off, Widen the aspect ratio
Rumble Pak on or off
Control Scheme - 3D Stick flick pitching and batting on or off (imprecise).
You can also change how the Ball drop cursor, pitching cursor, and batting
cursors are displayed, normal, lock on, off, or professional.
Training
Allows you to train your players. Before each training you can select a player
and each training has several modes to try. The training actually levels up the
players, you can see this information displayed in game. The main menu has the
following options if you keep pushing right;
Batting training
Return to the main menu
Pitcher training
Runner training
Outer fielding training
Inner fielding training
Catcher training
Pennant Competition
This is the competition and main mode of the game. You don't actually have to
play any of the games, you can just choose to watch them instead. Meaning that
the game can be completed in less than five minutes if your team gets lucky.
This might be the world record for the fastest an N64 game can be completed.
When you open the mode it will ask if you want to start from the beginning or
load a saved game. You can then choose a team (see below for the team section).
It will then show you this game settings screen with the following options
Number of matches 5, 25, 50, or 135
DH - On or off
Extended innings - 10-15 or none
Wind - On or off
Error calls - on or off
Difficulty 普通 normal 難しい difficult やさしい easy
It will then display the Pennant Mode screen with the following options
Baseball Diamond - Start the match
Return to the main menu
Cap and hands - Settings (same as the Main Menu settings)
Bats and Ball - Displays the current tournament rankings
Face and spreadsheet - Individual player records
Podium - The current tournament rankings
VS - Shows the match up screen
When you choose the start match option the matches screen will be displayed. The
current day is in the top right and the available matches will be show to the
right of it. Underneath the current tournament rankings are displayed. When your
team has match you can choose either to "play the match" or "see the result". If
you choose to "see the result" the match will be played automatically. If you
picked a strong team, such as the Yomiuri Giants, you have a strong chance of
winning. This allows you to complete the game very quickly without even having
to play any of the actual game. If you select any of the computers matches you
can choose to watch them or just see the result. If you win the Pennant
Competition you will get a silly cut scene and then the credits roll.
Scenario Mode
This mode was basically stolen from the Power Pro series. You choose a challenge
and are put in a specific situation in a match and have to try and win. Each
team has 6 missions, which means that there are an amazing 72 missions to
complete in the game. Shellshocker18 found 2 amazing cheats for this mode;
Unlock all missions - Put your cursor on the delete data button, before beating
any mission, and press all 4 C Buttons and the A Button at the same time.
2 Player mode - Both players must press L Z and Star before choosing a mission.
Attack Mode
Up to 4 players can play training minigames and bet experience points of their
players if you connect controller paks with data. This allows you to really
increase the stats of your players very quickly. The following mini-games are on
offer.
Homerun competition
Pitching training
Running training
Catching training
Infield training
Outfield training.
Pause screen
The in match pause screen has the following options from left to right

三 - third base
中 - center field

3.Stadiums and Teams
Here are the teams as they are shown on the team selection screen from left to
right. I always thought Yakult was a Swedish drink, but it turns out that its
actually Japanese!
According to Shellshocker18 if you complete a 135 game pennant without only
losing a single game you will unlock two metallic Silver and Gold teams if you
press the Z Trigger on the team selection menu. You will also have completely
wasted an insane amount of time playing an obscure baseball game that no one has
ever heard of, because a 135 pennant game will probably take about 70 hours to
complete!
These are the stadium and their teams in the order they are shown on the park
selection screen.
In game Stadium Home Team
Blue stadium Orix Blue Wave
Makuhari Stadium Chiba Lotte Marines
Lion stadium Seibu Lions
Buffalo Stadium Osaka Kintetsu Buffaloes
Hawk dome Fukuoka Daiei Hawks
Cosmo Arena
OK Park
Major Beach Stadium
Magical Park
Fierce tiger stadium Hanshin Tigers
Dragon stadium Chunichi Dragons
Bay stadium Yokohama Bay Stars
Hyperspace dome Yomiuri Giants and Nippon-Ham Fighters
Hiroshima Stadium Hiroshima Toyo Carps
Swallow Stadium Yakult Swallows
Additionally some stadiums have effects on the gameplay;
Hyperspace Dome – Balls fly further due to low gravity and home runs cause UFOs
to appear.
Major Beach Stadium – The wind is always over 10m. The ball can fall in the sea,
but does not roll. Players also cannot run as fast.
Magical Sky Park - Wind speed slows down the ball considerably.
