4. Changes

Resident Evil DS is based on the original Playstation version of Resident
Evil. Nothing new from the Gamecube remake or Director's cut appears.

4.1 Gameplay Changes

D-Pad - Move character with same old "tank" style gameplay.
Left and right rotate the character and up and down move the
character forward and backward.
Right Shoulder Button - Draw and aim gun.
Left Shoulder Button - Draws knife.
A - Shoots and is the action button to open doors and examine things.
Start - Goes to inventory screen.

4.3 Puzzle Changes

Everything listed below is what is different from the Playstation version.
Please see the Contact Information section to add and or correct me.
These changes are based on the Rebirth Mode.
- You can now bring out your knife at any time
- Characters have more polygons
- There is a first person knife fight mini-game
- There are two multiplayer modes over local WiFi
- There are no difficulty settings, Jill is normal and Chris is hard
- Every save room with a item chest now has a touch puzzle chest with
items in it
- You can choose to play Classic or Rebirth mode
- There seem to be a lot more squishy bugs on the ground in some areas
- Door animations and cutscenes can be skipped
- Map is always visible on the top screen
- All items take up only one inventory slot
- When you open some doors a first person knife fight mini-game happens
- When you get the Bazooka crows don’t attack and the S.T.A.R.S
body gets up and attacks you(THIS IS FROM DIRECTOR'S CUT)
- The time in the grandfather clock puzzle has changed
- Dead Richard puzzle now involves blowing into the microphone instead of
finding serum
- The knights’ room puzzle has changed to be a touch screen
puzzle involving gems and a scale
- Snakes fall from the trees in the Pond Room
- Shark Tank emptying has been turned into a puzzle where you
must turn a valve with the touch screen
- To open the door next to where you drain the shark tank a touch
number puzzle has been added
- Ammo can stack much higher for the pistol
- The second fight with the snake is trigger by a small touch puzzle
where you spin a record at a speed at which the record plays well
- You no longer get the radio from Richard by giving him the serum.
You get it later on if you fail to revive him with mouth to mouth
and there is no serum
- After Barry’s dumbass drops the rope down the hope you’re in and
that whole ordeal plays out there is a crazy knife touch puzzle to
move the gravestone
- When a zombie on the floor bites at your feet you can kick its
head off and the head goes bouncing around the room
- In the Black Tiger boss room you get rid of the web on the double door
by swinging your knife
- There is now a candle puzzle where you have to blow out the candles
to reveal the gem in the moose head on the wall
- The door in the guardhouse with the keypad now has a touch puzzle
- In the library on the second floor of the mansion there is a
sword stuck in a door that you shimmy free with a touch puzzle
- Red Book puzzle doesn’t require book swapping
- First person fight with the big snake boss
- Location of the Doom Book 1 has been moved

Watch or skip the main cutscene. Then watch or skip the in game cutscene in
the main hall of the mansion. You gain control in the dining room.

Run to the other end of the room where Barry is and watch or skip another
cutscene. Take the door to your right.

Turn right and watch or skip a cutscene and then return to the dining room.

Watch or skip yet another cutscene and then go through the double doors on
the other side of the room.

around and watch or skip another cutscene. Barry gives you the lockpick.

After the music is done playing a wall opens. Head back to Kenneth Hall.

Grab the ink ribbons on the table and save your game using the typewriter.
Go through the blue double doors on the right.

First Person touch screen slash game starts for the first time.
Take out the two zombies and pick up what the drop.
Push the step ladder in to place behind the statue and climb up it to get
the map of this floor of the mansion. You can push the cabinent out of the
way, run down the hall, and get ink ribbons but watch out for the zombie.
In Rebirth mode there are 2 Zombies, one on the floor.
Unlock the only other door in the room and go through it.

Run through the hallway. Dogs will pop out of the windows, kill them or keep
running to the door at the end of the hall. Go through it.

Grab the green herb in the corner. Run passed the locked door. Don't go
through the next door. Once you see another single door to Jill's left
go through it.

Go through the door across the room.

Grab the shotgun off the rack and go back to the ceiling room.

For those with the Japanese version:
The solution is(in the order you encounter them) 2 4 5 3 1 6, and then
the farthest painting.
When you flip the switch on the final painting at the end of the hall
you'll get the Star Crest. Leave the hall.

Run straight across to small area of the hallway and enter the door at the end.

Run to the end of the hall, kill the zombie dog, and insert the Star Crest
into the indentations to the left of the locked door. Turn around and go
back to door hallway 2.
There is also a crow in Rebirth Mode.

Go to the large portion of the room and enter the door to the right of the
locked one.

Kill the zombie at the foot of the stairs, grab the green herb, and take the
door to the right of Jill.

First blue chest touch puzzle.
Move the center piece two to the right. Touch the center.
Move the center back two to the left. Touch the center.
Move the center one to the left. Touch the center.
You get a red herb yay.
Pick up the chemical at the back of the room. Deposit what you want in the
chest and save.
COMBAT KNIFE IS ALWAYS AVAILABLE, NOT AN INVENTORY ITEM
There will be lots of rounds and herbs that barry has left you in the chest.
Remember to stack all your ammo to open up inventory slots.
Exit the room.

Go over to the water pump and use the chemicals on it. Go behind the now
dead vines and get the Armor Key at the other end and the herbs littered
throughout the room. Leave the room.

Go back to the first door you came through and turn to Jill's left.
Unlock and go through the door to her right.

Clip on the bed. Go to the desk and examine the notes and a zombie pops
out of the closet, kill it. Shotgun shells in the closet. Grab the file
on the desk and exit.

Across from Jill is another branch of the hallway. Don't go through the door.
To the right of the door is another door, go through it.

until he is revived. If he is there is another cutscene where he tells

happens.

Time for the Gem weight touch game.
It's easy enough, move the gems around until the weight on both sides is equal.

Kill the zombie dogs and grab all the herbs you like.
Go through the gate.

Turn left and run to the mechanism. Use the Square Crank.
After the pond drains move to the pond, jump down, and go up the ladder
on the other side. Follow the pathway to the lift.

Do another touch battle and kill the zombie dogs after.
Take the gate on the other side and squish all those nasty bugs.

Kill the zombie and the spider. Grab the notes on the bed.

Kill the wasp.
In this tunnel is a small pool blocking you from getting further. Run
down until you see 2 crates near each other. Push them both into the
pool you see at the end. The first crate you saw while entering the room
is a little trickier. Here is a map and instructions.

The X is the crater. Once all the crates are in the pool, cross the
newly formed bridge and soak Jill's feet into the water (grab the GREEN
HERBS if you like). Then head through the double doors.

Run to Jill's right. When you see a turn, turn to Jill's left.
Cutscene with shark appears. Run to the wall with two doors on it.
Use the C. Room Key to open up the door and go through it.

*CONTROL ROOM*

Run over to the two levers on the left. Examine them.
Select Yes and move over to Jill's right some and examine the wheel.
Select yes and get ready for another new touch puzzle. Move your
stylus around counterclockwise on the edge of the wheel. It should start
turning, just don't do it do fast. As you continue turning it the lights on
the left will light up one by one until you're done. The water will drain
and you'll be ok! Now go back to the door and examine the switch to the left
of it.
Time for another touch puzzle.

stylus at a speed at which the music plays clear. This will raise the guage

DIFFICULTY: FAIRLY EASY
Yawn is now scarred from your last battle. After fighting Plant 42, Yawn
is a wimp. Load the Acid Rounds and begin firing. If you run out, the
Shotgun will finish Yawn off. During the battle, Yawn makes a hole in
the floor.
Examine the hole and let Barry be a dumbass.

Wait for barry to bring a new rope. Go up. Barry gives you a passcode.
Go back down.
Examine the grave stone for a new touch puzzle.
Tap the blue dots with your stylus as fast as possible.
Tap your fingers for sick fun.
Go down the hole.

Run to the door at the end killing things in your way.

Turn the first corner and another corner and you'll see 2
eating zombies. Turn to Jill's right. Go through the door

We're in the kitchen. Run to the very right to see a lying zombie. Kill
it. Passed it is an elevator. Ride it down.

To the right is a zombie. Dispatch it. Turn right and you'll see a door.
Go through it.

In here are EXPLOSIVE ROUNDS, and a BATTERY. Exit.

Take the double doors on the other side of this room, passed the
elevator. A zombie you can kill is near the door.

Kill the 2 zombies in this room. Then head to the right desk and pick it
for some MAGNUM ROUNDS. Then head to the left, passed the bookshelves to
another door.

In this area, run passed a shelf to a red button. Push it to reveal a
light shining on a tile. Passed the button is a statue. Push it to where
the light is shining to reveal a hidden annex. On it is an MO DISK.
Exit.
IN ONE OF THESE PLACES IS THE SWORD IN THE DOOR TOUCH PUZZLE.

Head to the ELEVATOR ROOM.

There are 2 Hunters here, so kill them. Then head to the J HALL.

To the left of the is a Hunter. Kill it. Then unlock the closest door
with the HELMET KEY. Discard the HELMET KEY. There is another door to
the far left. Take the door you unlocked with the HELMET KEY.

Grab the MAGNUM ROUNDS and SHOTGUN SHELLS on the table. See the ladder?
Push it to the left and toward that deer head. Then go to the light
switch near the door and flip it off. Go up the stepladder and grab the
RED JEWEL. Exit the room.

Nearly ten years after its debut on the Playstation, Biohazard, known as
Resident Evil in the western world, is still going strong. The latest outing
is yet another remake of the original game. This time around it’s portable and
from time to time utilizes the touch screen and the microphone of the DS.
While Capcom has added some extras, this is still the old game we’ve loved
for a decade in all its forms.
