This FAQ was created using NJSTAR, and to view it properly, I would
suggest right clicking the page, then choose 'encoding' and choose Japanese
Auto-Select. That is to view it on a PC with Windows, and since I don't
have a Mac, I have no idea how to do that with them. So, sorry.

A couple years ago, I was given the pleasure of playing through the Dragon
Quest 1 remake on the Super Famicom. The new remake has added and
changed a few things, like the stat-increasing seeds.
This guide is more or less being made due to a request from someone making
a DQ/DW card-game.

Menu Screen Translations
First of all, you should know what all the options are when you turn
the game on. They are:
ぼうけんをする: Bouken wo Suru (Continue a game.)
せっていをかえる: Setti wo Kaeru (Change message speed; 1 is fastest, 9 is
slowest.)
ぼうけんのしょをつくる: Bouken no Sho wo Tsukuru (New Game.)
ぼうけんのしょをうつす: Bouken no Sho wo Utsusu (Copy a game to an open
save file.)
ぼうけんのしょをけす: Bouken no Sho wo Kesu (Erase a game-permanently.)

Command Translations
Regular Commands (Non-Battle) A * indicates more options open when that
command is selected.
はなす: Hanasu (Talk) じゅもん: Jumon (Magic Spell)
*つよさ: Tsuyosa (Status) *どうぐ: Dougi (Inventory)
とびら: Tobira (Open a Door) しらべる: Shiraberu (Search)
When you select つよさ: Tsuyosa (Status), two options open. They are:
そうび: Soubi (Equip) and
つよさみる: Tsuyosamiru (Look at Stats).
When you select どうぐ: Dougu (Inventory), two options open. They are:
つかう: Tsukau (Use the item)
すてる: Suteru (Throw item away-it doesn't come back, so be careful!)
When you select つよさ: Tsuyosa (Status) and then つよさみる: Tsuyosamiru
(Look at stats), you get the Status Screen.

The final set of commands are the Fight Commands. The hero does not
have the じゅもん: Jumon (Magic Spell) command, as he never learns spells.

Next up are the various spells that are learned in the game. These are
in the order I learned them in. A * signifies the spell can only be used
in battle.
じゅもん: Jumon (Magic Spells)
ホイミ: Hoimi (Heal: 3MP) Lv 3. Restores about 20-30 HP.
*ギラ: Gira (Fireball: 2MP) Lv 4. Hits one enemy for around 10-20 damage.
*ラリホー: Rariho- (Sleep: 2MP) Lv 7. Put a group of enemies to sleep.
レミーラ: Remi-ra (Radiance: 2MP) Lv 9. Lights up a dungeon more than a
torch, but it eventually weakens and fades out.
*マホトーン: Mahoto-n (Stopspell: 2MP) Lv 10. Enemies cannot cast spells.
リレミト: Riremito (Outside: 6MP) Lv 12. Exit a dungeon immediately.
ルーラ: Ru-ra (Return: 6MP) Lv 13. Warp back to ラダトーム: Radato-mu.
トヘロス: Toherosu (Repel: 2MP) Lv 15. Wards off weak enemies.
ベホイミ: Behoimi (Healmore: 8MP) Lv 17. Heals about 80HP.
*ベギラマ: Begirama (Firebane: 5MP) Lv 19. Hits an enemy for about 50-85
damage.

The order of the towns are in the order I came across them. Included
after the Japanese name/Romaji is the US version of the game's name.

やくそう: Yakusou (Medical Herb) 10/5. Restores some HP.
キメラのつばさ: Kimera no Tsubasa (Chimera Wing) 24/12. Teleport to Radatoum
Castle.
りゅうのうろこ: Ryuu no Uroko (Dragon Scale) 20/10. Defense Power +5.
ちからのたね: Chikara no Tane (Strength Seed) -/112. Increases

せいすい: Seisui (Holy Water) -/19. Repels weak enemies.
せんしのゆびわ: Senshi no Yubiwa (Soldier's Ring) -/15. Weaker enemies will
run away more often.
のろいのベルト: Noroi no Beruto (Cursed Belt) -/180. Cursed item.
Special/Event Items
たいようのいし: Taiyou no Ishi (Sun Stone) Found in Radatoum Castle. One
of three items needed to trade for the Rainbow Drop.
ようせいのふえ: Yousei no Fue (Fairy Flute) Found in Maira. Used to put
the Golem to sleep in front of Merkido.
おうじょのあい: Oujo no Ai (Princess' Love) Given to you after rescuing
the Princess. When used outside of battle it will tell you
how many experience points are needed to reach the next
experience level, and how far you are from Radatoum Castle.
ぎんのたてごと: Gin no Tategoto (Silver Harp) Found in the dungeon under
the town of Garai. Traded for the Rain Staff.
あまぐものつえ: Amagumo no Tsue (Rain Staff) Found in the shrine west of
Maira. One of three items needed to trade for the Rainbow
Drop.
ロトのしるし: Roto no Shirushi (Roto's Emblem) Found in the swampland south
of Merkido. One of three items needed to trade for the
Rainbow Drop.
にじのしずく: Niji no Shizuku (Rainbow Drop) Found in the shrine south of
Rimuldar. Used to create a bridge to the island where the
Dragon King's castle lies.
