                            I. - REVISION HISTORY
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Version 1.00:
Right now, the guide is completed, but as all intelligent GameFAQs users know,
there is always a possibility that there are errors in this guide, that I for-
got to add something, or simply other things. But, theoretically, this SHOULD
be it.

Version 1.01:
I fixed an error in a level's name. I called it "Toxic Lake" instead of "Poison
Pond." :-P

Version 1.02:
Added my NEW **INCREDIBLE** High Score of: 1,279,150 (Level 27)!!

Version 1.03:
Revised my High Scores section.

                             III. - INTRODUCTION
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Hello, my name is Josiah Plummer and this is my guide for Funky's Fishing, a
new feature that was added to the GameBoy Advance version of Donkey Kong Count-
ry. Why make a guide for such a seemingly minute element of the game, you ask?
Well, there are a couple reasons: 1.) - There aren't any guides for Funky's
Fishing yet on GameFAQs, and 2.) - I find Funky's Fishing to be very entertain-
ing, and I wish to exude all the prowess I have of Funky's Fishing and permeate
your mind with it. I leave you with this message: HAVE FUN!

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
IV. - WHAT IS FUNKY'S FISHING?
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Funky's Fishing is a fun mini-game that has been added to the GameBoy Advance
version of Donkey Kong Country. Not only are you able to access the mini-game
during gameplay, you can even play the mini-game outside of normal gameplay,
allowing you to try to make the High Score list!

In basic summarization, you play as Donkey Kong riding Enguarde, with Diddy in
a boat next to you. You control a large hook, and you must move it through the
water, catching as many fish as possible.

                                VI. - SCORING
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Each type of fish and other sea creatures are worth different point values, so,
of course, knowing which ones are more valuable will help you amass a wonderful
high score.

NORMAL SCORING is the amount of points you receive for catching one specimen
(basically, it is each creature's point value).

COMBO SCORING is the amount of points you receive for catching two or more of
the same species at a time.

==============
NORMAL SCORING
==============

Multicolored Bitesize = 100 pts.
Red Bitesize          = 300 pts.
Blue Bitesize         = 400 pts.
Green Bitesize        = 500 pts.
Yellow Bitesize       = 750 pts.
Normal Bitesize       = 900 pts.
Squidge               = 1,000 pts.
Chomps Jr.            = 1,000 pts.
Croctopus             = 1,000 pts.
Chomps                = 2,000 pts.
Crab                  = 20,000 pts.

**NOTE**
If you collect two or more different types of creatures at a time, their point
values will simply be added (i.e., a blue and red Bitesize caught at the same
time will be worth 700 pts.). However, if you catch two of the same-type fish
along with one different fish, you will gain a combo plus the value of the odd-
one-out fish (i.e., two red Bitesize and a blue Bitesize are worth 1,800 pts.
(the combo for both red Bitesizes), plus the blue Bitesize's 400 pts., totaling
2,200 pts.).

=============
COMBO SCORING
=============

For every extra same-species creature you catch, its point value is multiplied
by a multiple of six. For example:

        CAUGHT             POINT VALUE
1 Multicolored Bitesize       100 pts.
2 Multicolored Bitesizes      600 pts.
3 Multicolored Bitesizes      1,200 pts.

Below is a simple list on how to determine how many points you will receive for
particular combos.

CREATURE x 1 = Normal Point Value (NPV)
CREATURE x 2 = NPV x 6
CREATURE x 3 = NPV x 12
CREATURE x 4 = NPV x 18
CREATURE x 5 = NPV x 24
CREATURE x 6 = NPV x 30

I have never caught more than 6 of the same species at a time, but if you did,
the pattern would follow (just add 6 to the multiplier each time).

For reference, below is a list displaying point values for all species up to a
(x6) Combo:

--------------------------------------
MULTICOLORED BITESIZE x 1 = 100 pts.
MULTICOLORED BITESIZE x 2 = 600 pts.
MULTICOLORED BITESIZE x 3 = 1,200 pts.
MULTICOLORED BITESIZE x 4 = 1,800 pts.
MULTICOLORED BITESIZE x 5 = 2,400 pts.
MULTICOLORED BITESIZE x 6 = 3,000 pts.
--------------------------------------
RED BITESIZE x 1 = 300 pts.
RED BITESIZE x 2 = 1,800 pts.
RED BITESIZE x 3 = 3,600 pts.
RED BITESIZE x 4 = 5,400 pts.
RED BITESIZE x 5 = 7,200 pts.
RED BITESIZE x 6 = 9,000 pts.
--------------------------------------
BLUE BITESIZE x 1 = 400
BLUE BITESIZE x 2 = 2,400 pts.
BLUE BITESIZE x 3 = 4,800 pts.
BLUE BITESIZE x 4 = 7,200 pts.
BLUE BITESIZE x 5 = 9,600 pts.
BLUE BITESIZE x 6 = 12,000 pts.
--------------------------------------
GREEN BITESIZE x 1 = 500
GREEN BITESIZE x 2 = 3,000 pts.
GREEN BITESIZE x 3 = 6,000 pts.
GREEN BITESIZE x 4 = 9,000 pts.
GREEN BITESIZE x 5 = 12,000 pts.
GREEN BITESIZE x 6 = 15,000 pts.

YELLOW BITESIZE x 2 = 4,500 pts.
YELLOW BITESIZE x 3 = 9,000 pts.
YELLOW BITESIZE x 4 = 13,500 pts.
YELLOW BITESIZE x 5 = 18,000 pts.
YELLOW BITESIZE x 6 = 22,500 pts.
--------------------------------------
NORMAL BITESIZE x 1 = 900 pts.
NORMAL BITESIZE x 2 = 5,400 pts.
NORMAL BITESIZE x 3 = 10,800 pts.
NORMAL BITESIZE x 4 = 16,200 pts.
NORMAL BITESIZE x 5 = 21,600 pts.
NORMAL BITESIZE x 6 = 27,000 pts.
--------------------------------------
SQUIDGE x 1 = 1,000 pts.
SQUIDGE x 2 = 6,000 pts.
SQUIDGE x 3 = 12,000 pts.
SQUIDGE x 4 = 18,000 pts.
SQUIDGE x 5 = 24,000 pts.
SQUIDGE x 6 = 30,000 pts.
--------------------------------------
CHOMPS JR. x 1 = 1,000 pts.
CHOMPS JR. x 2 = 6,000 pts.
CHOMPS JR. x 3 = 12,000 pts.
CHOMPS JR. x 4 = 18,000 pts.

--------------------------------------
CROCTOPUS x 1 = 1,000 pts.
CROCTOPUS x 2 = 6,000 pts.
CROCTOPUS x 3 = 12,000 pts.
CROCTOPUS x 4 = 18,000 pts.
CROCTOPUS x 5 = 24,000 pts.
CROCTOPUS x 6 = 30,000 pts.
--------------------------------------
CHOMPS x 1 = 2,000 pts.
CHOMPS x 2 = 12,000 pts.
CHOMPS x 3 = 24,000 pts.
CHOMPS x 4 = 36,000 pts.
CHOMPS x 5 = 48,000 pts.
CHOMPS x 6 = 60,000 pts.
--------------------------------------

NOTE: Less than a minute ago I just caught two Crabs at the same time, and in-
stead of following the usual pattern of multiplying the crab's value (20,000)
by 6, the game simply added them both together and gave me 40,000 pts. I feel
very gypped right now... :(

                             VII. - THE TIME BAR
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

When you begin fishing, a time bar at the top of the screen will immediately
begin counting down. The time bar is represented by a set of bars, ranging in
length. When the time bar is completely filled, its "bar representation" will
be the following:

                        4-4-4-4-4-4-3-2-3-4-4-4-4-4-4

Each number represents the number of bars in each set of bars (each set is de-
termined by the bars' lengths).

Now, immediately when play begins, the time bar will begin to deplete (this is
displayed by having the bars continually disappear starting from the right).
Once there are no bars left, the game is over.

To refill a small portion of the time bar, you must catch multitudes of fish or
combinations of the same types of fish (same-type combos give you more time,
though). Also, when you upgrade to a new level (see topic X), an amount of time
equal to half of a full time bar will be added to your current time. Basing the
following representation on the previous numbered representation of the time
bar, the following amount of time is added to your current time whenever you
upgrade to a new level:

                               4-4-4-4-4-4-3-1

I am sorry if you are confused, that is really the only way to explain it. Just
try to catch lots of same-type sea creatures and upgrade to new levels. Without
doing so, your playtime will not last long, that's for sure.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
                            VIII. - OTHER OBJECTS
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

As you progress through the mini-game and gain access to higher levels, two ob-
stacles will become part of the game: bottles and spiky tires. (The tires are
the same ones in levels such as Poison Pond and Manic Mincers). When you collect
a bottle or tire, a chunk of your time bar will be taken off. Therefore, you
should try to avoid these two trash items as best as possible.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
IX. - TIPS, HINTS & STRATEGIES
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

1.) - Sometimes it is hard to catch multiples of fish due to Diddy Kong's loca-
tion, and also because you normally cannot move him. To make Diddy Kong follow
you temporarily (making it easier to collect lots of fish), catch a combo of
anything. Once the two or more same-type sea creatures land in the boat, Diddy
will have an exclamation mark above his head. While the exclamation mark is
above Diddy's head, he will follow you wherever you go. The bigger the combo,
the longer the exclamation mark lasts.

2.) - The best time to catch multiples of fish is to wait until they cross each
other's path. This way, you only have to raise the hook straight up, instead of
diagonally (which would be necessary if the two fish were not lined up).

3.) - When you see two different fish about to cross paths (which is the best
time to catch them), and another fish that is the same type as one of the two
fish about to cross paths, wait for the two same-type fish to cross paths and
catch them both. For example, if you see a blue and a red Bitesize about to
cross paths, and then you see another red Bitesize closing in, do not catch the
blue and red Bitesizes (although it is very tempting to do so). Instead, wait
for the incoming red Bitesize to cross paths with the other red Bitesize and
collect them. Always keep in mind: Combos are ALWAYS worth more than catching
two different creatures at a time. (ALWAYS!)

4.) - If you see a crab, sometimes it is tempting to try to catch it along with
multitudes of other fish. Remember, crabs are singularly valued at 20,000 pts.,
so even if you don't think you can catch extra fish along with the crab, IGNORE
THE FISH! The crab will most likely be worth more than combos of those fish
anyway!

Making this guide really was a blast. I did it all in one night, and I am just
finishing now at 5:42 AM. I hope this guide was at least a bit informative for
you, or at least fun to read! I know it was a short one, but Funky's Fishing
doesn't have a lot of depth to it. Anyway, have a good day everyone!!
