Traveler. This FAQ was written using the original game, but it can be used for
Yu-Gi-Oh! Double Pack 2's version as well.

1. Introduction
###############################################################################
Thank you for choosing to read my Yu-Gi-Oh! Destiny Board Traveler FAQ. I hope
this guide gives you some assistance in playing this game.
Destiny Board Traveler is a board game, a hybrid of Yugioh, Mario Party and
Sonic Shuffle. There are no mini-games, usable items or a story, though.
There are only Battle Spaces and Special Zones on the board maps, and you must
get a certain amount of stars to win a game.
DBT combines the mechanics of the OCG/TCG with a game board. It plays nothing
like the WCT games or even spinoff games like Dungeon Dice Monsters.
One notable thing about this game is that there is a lot of voice acting.
There are voices for each playable character with his/her own phrases. DBT is
difficult to understand at first, as there's no in-game tutorial and the
instruction manual doesn't do a good job of explaining things, so you'll have
to play the game a few times first to be able to understand everything.

===============================================================================
3.02 - GETTING STARTED
===============================================================================
This section outlines how to set up a game. You do the following steps in the
following order.
Character Selection > LM Type Selection > Map Selection > Win Conditions
Character Selection
-------------------
Select which character you want to play as. You can't cancel your selection.
AI-controlled characters are chosen randomly.
LM Type Selection
-----------------
Select the number of maps and how they will be linked together to create the
game board. At first, only a single map, 'Domino Park', is available, but you
can unlock up to eight more maps. The number of formations increases when you
win a game as Mai Valentine, Yami Bakura, Yami Yugi, Kaibaman, Seto Kaiba and
Maximillion Pegasus (credited to Gotenks1215, etrok2003, JenaSu, marhawkman,
DigiDan99, ppoi307, and vaporen115).
Map Selection
-------------
Select a map number and then set the map. When eight/nine maps are available,
you can play with up to 8 at a time.
Win Conditions
--------------
Select the number of victory stars required to win the game. Up to 250 (!)
stars can be selected. A full game can take anywhere from 15 minutes to six
hours, depending on how many stars you set as the win conditions. Unreal.
===============================================================================
3.03 - MAP SCREEN
===============================================================================
Here, you compete against computerized opponents or friends on a 5x5 game
board. Gameplay involves playing randomly given cards. The order of the
players' turns are determined randomly at the beginning of the game. At the
start of your turn, you may draw 1 card from your deck into your hand (Note:
You start with 6 cards in your hand, not counting the card you draw). There
is no limit to the amount of cards you can draw and you can have an unlimited
number of cards in your hand. The card distribution system prevents you from
receiving the same hand twice and will usually equalize the chances of getting
both good and bad cards for all players.
MAP MENU OPTIONS
----------------
Set on Dice: Select which cards to set on the Summon Dice.
View Space: View data about each space.
View Map: View the map you're on from different angles.
Large Map: View all maps, player locations and win conditions.
Super Power: Activate your Super Power.
[End of options]
Life Points
------------
Life Points represent the life of the character. If your LP reaches 0, you
are disqualified and any monsters you summoned become stray monsters. If all
but one player are disqualified, the remaining active player wins by default.
Deck
----
Each character uses Cookie Decks, most of which are loosely based on decks they
used in the anime. Their decks seem to have a roughly equal ratio of monsters
with similar levels and ATK/DEF.
Monsters
--------
These are the only cards you can play, as magic and traps don't exist in this
game. There are 4 types of monsters (Normal, Effect, Fusion and Ritual),
though the latter three are treated as Normal Monsters.
Graveyard
---------
This is where monsters are sent when destroyed or Tribute Summoned. You can't
check to see which monsters currently reside there or bring them back to the
board, though.
Super Power
-----------
Each character has a special ability called a Super Power that can tip a game
in a player's favour. At the start of a player's turn, the game randomly
determines if he/she will be able to use their Super Power during that turn.
Summoned Monsters
-----------------
The grey cards indicate stray monsters summoned by Creeps and the colour-coded
cards indicate monsters summoned by the active players. If a player is
disqualified, any monsters he/she summoned become strays. With the exception
of Special Zones, all spaces are initially covered with stray monsters.
Therefore, it is impossible to summon any monster unless you destroy the strays
first. If a space becomes empty, you can summon a monster to the space
straight away without having to duel.
Victory Stars
-------------
To win a game, you must get a certain number of victory stars as set in the
win conditions. The level of a monster you summon determines how many stars you
get (eg. if you summon a Blue-Eyes White Dragon, you get 8). Whenever one of
your monsters is destroyed or you Tribute Summon a monster, you lose the stars
for those monsters.
Special Zone
------------
These spaces have different effects, depending on the map. For example,
when characters move to Domino Park's Special Zone, their Life Points recover
1,000 points.
Crystals
--------
Crystals will only appear on maps combined via the LM system. If one of the
crystals is on a Special Zone, you won't trigger an event if you land on it.
Instead, you will be teleported to another map.
===============================================================================
3.04 - CARD SCREEN
===============================================================================
Here, you set monsters on a Summon Dice.
CARD MENU OPTIONS
-----------------
Star Face: Set selected card on the Star Face of the dice.
Regular Face: Set selected card on the Regular Face of the dice.
Roll Dice: Roll the dice.
Back to Map: Go back to the Map Screen.
Cancel: Go back to the Card Screen.
Remove from Dice: Remove a selected card from the dice.
[End of options]
Summon Dice
-----------
This is used to place cards on. You can put from 0 to 6 monsters on the
dice, and the level of those monsters determine the number of spaces they
move (eg. if Silver Fang is face-up on the dice, you move 3 spaces). If
you're unable to Tribute Summon a monster, you can still move around the board
but you'll have to duel without it. If you get a face with no monster on it,
you won't be able to do anything. Summon Dice has 1 Star Face (S) and 5 Regular
Faces (R). A monster set on a Star Face is more likely to be face-up on the
dice than one set on a Regular Face. Note: Summon Dice will roll automatically
after a while if you don't roll it.
Soul Shuffle
------------
If you tap A repeatedly after rolling the Summon Dice, your chances of rolling
a Star Face will increase. This is called "Soul Shuffle" (identified by the
dice spinning very fast and "burning").
Summon Monsters
---------------
The monster that was face-up on the Summon Dice that you rolled will be
summoned. If the level of that monster is 5 or higher, you'll need 1-3
tributes first, though. 5-6 levels require 1 tribute, 7+ require 2 and Blue-
Eyes Ultimate Dragon, FGD and Egyptian God Cards require 3.
===============================================================================
3.05 - DUEL SCREEN
===============================================================================
Here, if you land on a space where your opponent has already summoned a
monster, a duel will start. If you land on a space where there is a stray
monster, a duel will begin also. You must attack with your own monster to be
able to win and gain control of a Creep or player space. Most of your monsters
should be strong enough to defeat any Creeps, as theirs mostly just have 200-
300 ATK/DEF.
DUEL MENU OPTIONS
-----------------
Attack Position: Set your monster in Attack Position.
Defense Position: Set your monster in Defense Position.
Pass: Pass your turn.
Cancel: Go back to the Duel Screen.
[End of options]
Duel Dice
---------
This is used in duels for control of a space. It can tip a duel in a player's
favour or prevent them summoning monsters at all, depending on his/her own
luck. The dice has 1 Attack/Defence reversal face (reverses the position of a
player's monster), 1 reduce Attack/Defence face (lowers the ATK/DEF of a
monster by 500 points) and 4 miss faces (no effect). There is an 80% chance
that the Duel Dice will have no effect on the duel, but there is a 20% chance
that it will.
===============================================================================
3.06 - BATTLE DAMAGE
===============================================================================
Battle Damage means damage to a player or monster that is caused as a result of
battle with a monster. If there isn't a monster on your opponent's space, you
can attack him/her directly. The attacking monster's ATK is subtracted from
his/her Life Points as damage. When monsters battle each other, the Battle
Position of the card being attacked changes the result of the battle. If the
monster being attacked is face-down, it's flipped face-up before damage is
calculated. When both monsters are in Defence Position, the challenger's
monster returns to his/her hand and the defender's monster keeps the space.
When you attack an Attack Position monster:
If (ATK of your monster) > (ATK of opponent's monster), the opponent's monster
is destroyed and he/she is dealt battle damage equal to the difference. Your
monster is summoned to the space. If (ATK of your monster) = (ATK of
opponent's monster), both monsters are destroyed. The space becomes empty.
If (ATK of your monster) < (ATK of opponent's monster), the attacking monster
is destroyed and you receive damage equal to the difference. Your opponent's
monster keeps the space.
When you attack a Defence Position monster:
If (ATK of your monster) > (DEF of opponent's monster), the opponent's monster
is destroyed. Your monster is summoned to the space. If (ATK of your monster)
= (DEF of opponent's monster), the attacking monster returns to your hand and
your opponent's monster keeps the space. If (ATK of your monster) < (DEF of
opponent's monster), you receive damage equal to the difference. The
attacking monster returns to your hand and your opponent's monster keeps the
space.
===============================================================================
3.07 - HINTS AND TIPS
===============================================================================
This section lists hints and tips that should be helpful.
*View the board map to help decide which space you want to go to next.
*Most Super Powers are best used straight away. A CPU opponent will do just
that, so watch out. Crush Virus and Lose Turn can be game-breaking if used
right.
*Early in a game, focus on summoning level 4 or lower monsters, as they require
no tributes. Don't summon a level 4 monster on your first turn, though, as
you'll just end up landing on a Special Zone and won't get any victory stars.
Try to play a level 3 or lower monster instead.
*Later in a game, you'll need to Tribute Summon mid-level monsters to deal
with your opponent's own tribute ones. It's best to play one-tribute
monsters (eg. Summoned Skull), as they require just 1 tribute to be summoned.
*When you sacrifice a monster to summon a stronger one, the sacrificed
monster will be sent to the Graveyard and the new one will appear on the
space that you are currently standing on. The space where your sacrificed
monster once was is now empty, so your opponents will have an opportunity
to use it to summon their own monsters. I advise summoning new monsters to
the space to prevent this from happening.
*You can use the LM system to increase your chances of winning a game. Since
most of your opponents will likely be on different maps, you'll have less
player monsters to worry about. When you are teleporting to different maps
via crystals or Rebecca's Super Power, I advise tributing any weak monsters
to avoid leaving them behind for your opponents to destroy them.
*Special Zones can either help or hinder all players, depending on the map, so
try to take advantage of them. For example, Graveyard's SZ can revive a
fallen (disqualified) player.
*The quickest and easiest way to win is to set 10-15 victory stars as the win
conditions. Watch out for your CPU opponents, though, as they can get the
required number of stars before you if they're lucky.
*A CPU opponent always tries to Tribute Summon a monster if they already have
the necessary tributes. This can backfire on him/her if they're unlucky with
the Duel Dice.
*If there's a space on a map you want to go to, set as many cards as you can
with the same number of levels needed to be able to move there. For example,
if you want to move 3 spaces, set as many cards with 3 levels. It's easier to
do later in a game when you'll likely have 4+ monsters with the same number of
levels in your hand.
*Use the Soul Shuffle to have a greater chance of rolling a Star Face.

6. Frequently Asked Questions
###############################################################################
Q: Are the Egyptian God Cards in this game?
A: Yes. Check the link further down for info.
Q: What promotional cards were given with this game?
A: Emes the Infinity, D.D. Assailant, and Twinheaded Beast.
Q: I won a game as [name of character], but I didn't get [name of map]. Why?
A: Only 8 new maps can be unlocked per save file.
Q: How can I play a game with friends?
A: At the Title Screen, press Select 1-3 times and Start once to choose between
2-4 players. However, everyone must each have a copy of the game, otherwise
you won't be able to do this.
Q: How do I erase saved data and see the credits?
A: At the Title Screen, press Select 4 times and Start once to access Options.
Choose 'Credits' to see the game's credits and 'Erase saved data' to erase
data.
Q: When does Destiny Board Traveler save data?
A: Data is saved automatically when you unlock new characters, maps and LM
types. Unlike Mario Party and Sonic Shuffle, data can't be saved at the
beginning of each turn, so you must be prepared to play a game for hours in
order to try and win it.
Q: How do I speed the game up?
A: Holding B will make the game twice as fast until you let go.
Q: Are there anime-only cards in this game?
A: Yes. The following anime original cards from the Waking the Dragons story
arc are in this game:
*Orichalcos Kyutora
*Backup Gardna
*Active Guard
*Advanced Shield
*Big Bang Blow
*Black Hole Shield
*Burning Knuckle
*Buster Knuckle
*Buster Pyle
*Double Cloth Armor
*Jet Gauntlet
*Over Boost
*Psychic Armor Head
Q: How many cards are in this game?
A: 800. Source:
http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Yu-Gi-Oh!_Destiny_Board_Traveler_cards
Q: Why does the text of Fusion/Effect/Ritual Monsters describe their real-life
card descriptions if this game doesn't use the OCG/TCG rules?
A: I dunno. Maybe they just didn't make it into the final version of the game
or Konami couldn't be bothered writing specific text for this game. Oddly
enough, monster abilities are briefly mentioned in page 34 of the game's
instruction manual.
