==============================================================================
o===============================================o
NOTE
o===============================================o
The formula used in this guide is based on
the one from Bulbapedia and Serebii.net. It
is likely that this formula is slightly
incorrect. This guide will discuss the
formula as if it is completely correct.
o===============================================o
When you throw a Poké Ball at a wild Pokémon, the game uses a formula based on
the wild Pokémon's current health, any status effect it may have, and that
Pokémon's Catch Rate, to determine your chances of catching that Pokémon. The
formula is as follows:
( ( 4 * TotalHP - 2 * CurrentHP) * CatchRate ) / TotalHP + Status
CurrentHP = The wild Pokémon's current HP.
TotalHP = The wild Pokémon's total HP.
CatchRate = The wild Pokémon's catch rate, listed below. This can be modified
with the use of different Poké Ball types, listed below.
Status = If the wild Pokémon is Asleep or Frozen, it equals 11. If the wild
Pokémon is Paralyzed, Poisoned or Burnt, it equals 6. Otherwise,
it equals 1.
After all these values have been calculated, the game computes a random number
from 0 to 255. If this random number is less than the number calculated above,
the Pokémon is caught.

==============================================================================
Examples EXMP
==============================================================================
Say we've found a wild Pidgey with 20 total HP. Lets pretend that we don't
weaken it at all, and throw a Poké Ball straight away. The formula again is:
( ( 4 * TotalHP - 2 * CurrentHP) * CatchRate ) / TotalHP + Status
We would replace TotalHP with 20, and CurrentHP with 20, seeing as it still
has full health. The Pidgey doesn't have a Status problem so Status will equal
1. We'll replace CatchRate with 255, because Pidgeys catch rate is 255. This
leaves us with the equation:
( ( 4 * 20 - 2 * 20 ) * 255 ) / 20 + 1
If we put that in a calulator we'll end up with 511. The game will then
calculate a random number from 0 to 255. If the number is smaller than 511,
which of course it will be, then the Pidgey is caught. In other words, if you
find a Pidgey with 20 total HP, and throw a Poké Ball at it, the Pidgey will
definantly be caught.
Now for another example. Let's say we find an an Absol with 150 total HP. You
might then weaken it a bit so it only has 75 current HP. Then you might put it
to sleep and throw a Great Ball at it. Let's put these details into the
formula. Note that although Absol's catch rate is 30, we would multiply it by
1.5 because we're using a Great Ball.
( ( 4 * 150 - 2 * 75 ) * 45 ) / 150 + 11
After putting that into a calculator we find out the result is 146. This means
that if the random number generated is less than 146 then the Absol is caught.

FAQ FAQS
==============================================================================
I want to catch -----. What would be the easiest way to do so?
--------------------------------------------------------------
Use a Master Ball. If you don't want to do that, then first weaken it down to
as little health as you can get it. Put it to sleep or somehow freeze it. Then
pick the Poké Ball type that best suits the situation. A Ultra Ball is 2 times
as good as a Poké Ball. Timer Balls can be up to 4 times as good if the
battles been going on for long enough. Theres many other types of Poké Balls
that would be good in some situations. Go check the list and find out what
works best.
I want to catch -----. Where can I find it?
-------------------------------------------
This is a guide explaining how easy something is to catch. Not a guide of
where you can find it. Go look at the Pokémon Locations FAQ.
