1) Introduction [i001]

        What is Mario Party? [i002]

  Mario Party is a somewhat successful series of multiplayer games staring,
guess who, Mario.  The layout is almost that of a game of Candy Land,
typically.  The objective is to win the most mini-games (small 10 to 90 second
games) and to collect coins, stars, and other little goodies along the way.

    Mario Party is typically a four-player console game, however, on 3/29/05
Nintendo released to the North American shores Mario Party Advanced!  The hand
held version!

    This game can be played on one GBA and with one cartridge, however, for
full enjoyment and to unlock everything, you will need 2 GBAs, 2 copies of
the game, and 1 GBA Gamelink cable.  At your local game store, this will
probably run you about  $100 to $150 if you don't have the system, the game,
or a friend to play it with.  However, you typically only need to get the game
which is going for roughly $30 (this is as of 3/31/05 in the United States
and is subject to change.  Please refer to your local game store for pricing).

  Mario Party has an ESRB rating of  E (for everyone).  This usually means
that this game lacks any type of sexual content, violence, vulgar language,
and blood.  Any depictions of violence are of a VERY cartoon-esque nature and
is generally safe for children over the age of 3.

    This game is targeted towards children between the ages of 4 to 12,
however the game is enjoyable for anyone older that enjoys clean fun or the
Japanese culture.

       What are the controls? [i004]

     The controls of the game varies between which mini-game you are playing
 Instructions will be shown before each mini-game or gadget is accessed.
 Please refer to the appropriate section of this FAQ for the controls in a
specific instance.

      What modes of play are there? [i005]
          ****************

        There are four general modes of play:

A) Single Player - Shroom City is a completely Single Player area Playland
 has mini-games and gadgets that are meant for single player use, and
Challenge Land also has single player functions.  About 60% of this game can
be done in single player mode.

B) Multiplayer (one GBA and one Game) - Playland has several mini-games and
gadgets that were made with one GBA in mind. Partyland has two different
modes of play for up to 100 people. Also, the board game that comes along
with the box is able to support up to four players.

C) Multiplayer (two GBAs and two Cartridges) - (still unlocking this part
of the game as this is being written).

D) Multiplayer (two GBAs and one Cartridge) - You can download different
mini-games and gadgets to another GBA.  Games erase when the GBA is turned
off.

2) Passports [p001]

       What's a passport? [p002]

    A passport is a cute little "name tag" of sorts that you make when you
start up the game.  You create a photo (complete with 7 options), input your
name, birth month, favorite hobby, and a little comment.  There are also two
secrets that you are asked to input that are not shown on the general passport
screen.  They are "What is your biggest dream?" and "What is your silliest
secret?".

     Remember, you can collect up to 10 passports but THERE IS ONLY ONE
PERSONAL PASSPORT PER CARTRIDGE!

    What are passports used for? [p003]

       You can trade you passport with other people.  This generally doesn't
give you anything, but it's fun to have a little snap shot of your friends on
your GBA.  Also, in two-cartridge two GBA mode,  you can play secrets battle.
 This enables you to unlock the secret that your friend inputted into their
passport.

3) Party World Basics [w001]

        Story introduction [w002]

  You go to visit to Party World one day and Toad warmly greets you!
 Right when you are getting ready to play with all the mini-games and gadgets
that Party World has to offer, Bowser and Koopa Kid come by and stomp them
into the air, then run off to Shroom City.  It's now up to you to go around to
every citizen of Shroom City and get the gadgets and mini-games that they
found on the ground.

              Characters [w003]
            ***************

  Mario - Could you really have a game named Mario Party without having Mario
in it?  He's one of your mustached characters you can play.

 Luigi - Brother of Mario and also sports a mustache.  He's up for play as
well.

  Princess Peach  -  Thrown in for all the girl gamers, or just if you like
pink.  She's a playable character.

  Yoshi - Our androgynous dinosaur companion also is available to be played.

  Toad - The narrator of Party World and shows up all over the place!
Who else could be a game show host in this... Erm...game?

  Toadette - If there was a such thing as a female toad, she's it.
 She pops up in Party Land and Challenge Land.

  Professor E. Gadget  - The creepily baby-like looking professor that
created all of the Gadgets you can collect.

  Tumble - Another host of Mario Party.  Tumble is who leads you through
Shroom City.

  Bowser - Always honors his word, and that's probably the only reason that
Mario keeps beating him so often.

  Kid Koopa - Tries to emulate Bowser, but is always being clumsy about it.
 He's good to his word and adores to cause a little bit of trouble when he can.

  Mr. E - Get it?  He loves chasing down mysteries all across Shroom City.
Easily frightened type though.

  Shroomlock - No one seems to know who this guy even is half the time.
Habitually late, but is the top detective in Shroom City.

  Mushbert - Ah, many of the people who play this game probably can relate
in some what to Mushbert, the complete dork who collects Toad Force V
memorabilia.

  Big Bob-omb and the Bob-ombs - It seems that the Bob-ombs are all part of
a mysterious gang?

  Ghost Lanterns and Ninji - More Toad Force V fanatics.

  Petal Guy, Flutter, and Mr. I - Trapped in a love triangle that never
leads to love.

   Goombob and Goombetty - Completely in love goombas.  Again, I'm surprised
that there IS an opposite sex.

   Goomba - There is also another very helpful Goomba in Shroom City.

    Ukiki - King... Erm... Mayor of the Jungle that enjoys harmless pranks
now and again.

    Akiki - The cute monkey niece of Ukiki.  Doesn't take small pranks very
well.

   Coach and Cheep Cheep Swimmer - Trying hard to win the upcoming race, but
the Coach can't seem to motivate Cheep Cheep.

    Dolphin - His jokes aren't that bad... They just aren't good either, and
he knows it.

    Amp,  Hoot, Monty Mole, and Penguin - Gamblers who are down on their luck
throughout Shroom City.  A single win could make their losing streak end.

     Mechakoopa - Lives in the library next to the sea, and all the salt
water is making his circuits short.  Loves math and talking on the...
phone...

     Dorrie - A lonely lake monster that just wants a dinosaur pal.

     Hulu - Dance master extraordinaire that has taken on Dance Dance
Revolution as a way of life.

    Thwomp - A big, scary looking thwomp that just wants to make some
friends, but can't leave his house to do it.

    Fly Guy - Can, for some reason, signal UFO landings. o_O???

   Shy Guy - Painfully shy and tries to keep the trains running on time.

   Snifit - He's one of those guys that goes bungee jumping without a cord,
just for the thrill.  Being scared is all a game for him.


    Hammer Bro., Bullet Bill, and Mr. Blizzard  - Athletes that enjoy a
competitor with a little spunk.

     Toady and the Kamek Krew - A group of five musicians that can't seem to
find a place to play.

     Pokey - A talking cactus that apparently took over the function of the
sphinx.  Enjoys riddles.

     Koopa - Runs the bank and is a little high strung.  Cousins with
Paratroopa.

    Paratroopa - A prankster that runs the  Item Shop (Junk).  Cousins
with Koopa.

     Boo, Boo, and Boo - Three best friends that really like golden statues
and often times forget exactly what they should be haunting.

     Chain Chomp - A dog like duelist.

     Shroom City is a very versatile place that you visit to regain all of
the lost gadgets and mini-games!  This the single player story mode of the
game.  Please referrer to Shroom City [s001] for more information.

4) Shroom City [s001]

     Introduction to Shroom City [s002]
          ***************

     Shroom City mode is a game play mode meant for a single player.
You choose one of four characters and make your way around the board.

       After choosing a character, you are placed on the board.  You have 5
mushrooms to start out with.  When you reach 0 mushrooms, you reach a game
over.  A game over means that you must go back to the appropriate starting
square for the character you choose and whatever quest you are currently on
is abandoned.  You do not need to redo any completed quests upon getting a
game over.

      A turn consists of losing one mushroom, rolling a die, and moving to
a square.  The square you land on has different outcomes.

      There are five different squares you can land on:

Yellow Square - Your turn ends.  Sometimes Kid Koopa will appear out of no
where and challenge you to Rochambeau (sp?) or warp you to another part of
the map.  Loosing in Rochambeau can cost you a mushroom OR block off that
square for one round.

 Green Die - Landing on a green die square means you may roll again in that
round.  This does not cost a mushroom. Your turn continues after landing on
this square.

 Blue M -  A blue M square is a mini-game square.  You will either be
challenged by Tumble or Kid Koopa.  Tumble will give you two mushrooms if you
win and won't punish you if you lose.  Kid Koopa will give one mushroom for
successful completion of his mini-game, but will also take one away if you
lose. This ends your turn.

 Red Minus - This takes away a mushroom from your pile and ends your turn.

 Pink arrow - A Pink arrow does not make the number of moves you have left go
down and landing on it means you can hit A and go into a quest.  You will see
the pink arrow pointing to a box with a photo in it and a darkened star (for
an quest that has not been done) or a blue star (for a completed quest).  You
can (and sometimes will need to) go to a pink arrow that the quest was already
completed for as well.

        Controls for Shroom City [s003]
            **************

 A - Advance a text screen, stop a dice roll,  to confirm a selection, and
pressing 'A' in front of a quest area stops your car and allows you to enter a
particular area.  Also zooms in on map mode.

 B - Cancel a selection.

 R - View the Map, press A in map mode to see a zoomed out picture of the map.

 L - Go to Menu (see Menu [s004] for more information).

 Quest Data - View the name of the current quest you are on (you can only
have 1 active quest at a time) and also shows which quests you have already
completed.

Character List - A list of all the characters that you have met so far in
Shroom City.

 Save - Save and Quit for a later time.

 Quit - Completely quit out of the game.  The quests that you have completed
stay completed, but any active quests must be restarted.  This is like a
self-imposed Game Over.

  Yes, actually, different characters change where you start and what quests
you can and cannot do.

Quests that only certain characters can complete:

 Mario - [the shy guy thing].

 Luigi - [the shy guy thing].

 Princess Peach - Mr. I's Quest [name].

  Yoshi - Dorrie's Quest [name].

  The characters also have different starting points.  Mario starts in town,
Luigi starts (desert?), Peach starts in Jungle Land, and Yoshi starts
(beach?).

Ice Stadium -  [Name?]

Quest:   Challenge Mr. Blizzard to a few pitches.
Type: Sport
Earn Gadget: Mini Slugger
To complete: Manage to hit a 'home run" over the fence.
Difficulty: Easy


Strategy:  You are thrown up to 5 balls.  Not swinging is a strike, swinging to
early (when the ball barely clears to your bat) makes the ball go up,
swinging to late (you almost miss and get a strike) makes the ball roll across
the ground, but waiting until the ball is midway through the batting area
makes you hit it up over Mr. Blizzards head.

Ice Game Room - Engaging Game

Quest: End Penguin's losing streak!
Type: Gambling
Earn Mini-Game: Drop 'Em
To complete: End up with one more coin than you started with.
Difficulty:  Easy
Description of Mini-Game: “Drop coins and watch them bounce off the pins.
Land them in the box to win!"

Controls: 'A' to release a coin at the appropriate time.  'A' to stop prize
roulette.

Stategy:  This game is pure luck, and I think it's actually called Plinko.
Wait until the box is on the right going towards the middle and the paddles
are facing left (or vise versa).  It may take a couple of tries but you should
land it.  Hit 'A' to stop the roulette on the side for how many coins you
earn.

Horror Land

Horror Condo (basement) -
Quest: Prove you're a real Toad Force V fan by getting a figurine!
Type: Toad Force V
Earn Gadget:
Difficulty: Medium
To complete:  This is a run around the map, collect the item type quest.
After speaking to the Lantern Ghost, go to the Item shop and choose a 'Toad
Force V' figurine.  Go back to the Horror Condo to have the Ghost give you

Mini-Games:

Broom Zoom

Goal: Beat the target score!
Target Score: 5000
Controls: Use directional pad to move
Failure - (Hit a wall?) (crossing the finish line without 5000 points?)
Objective: "Fly through the rings on Toady's broom and head for the goal."

Strategy: There really isn't a particular strategy that you should aim for
that isn't obvious.  Grab every ring you can and avoid hitting the walls or
floating barrels.  Try going in-between two rings that are on top of one
another to grab them both!

Shell Stack

Goal: "Beat the target score before time runs out!"
Target Score: 10 shells
Timer: 60 seconds
Controls: 'A' to jump.
Objective: "Leap up and jump on the shells that come firing out of the pipes."
Failure: Fail to meet the target score before time runs out.
Difficulty: Medium

Strategy: Timing is key.  For green shells, jump after the shell is fired out
and is half way to you.  For yellow, jump shortly after the shell is fired.
For red, jump as soon as you see that it has been fired.  Remember that the
harder you press the 'A' button, the higher you jump.  Missing a shell or
getting hit with one will slow you down.  You will know which shell is coming
out by the color the pipe turns after flashing and before firing.  There is a
kinda yellow-green that the green pipe changes into that can be a little
deceptive, so be vigilant!

Melon Folly

Goal:  Grab all the watermelon pieces without falling into the water
before time runs out.
Target Score: Collect all the melons (varying numbers).
Timer: (?)
Controls: Directional pad to move, 'B' to dash.
Objective: "Nab all the fruit but don't fall in! Try to grab the melon last!"
Failure: Falling into the water
Difficulty: Medium

Strategy: Barrels will drop down and cover 2 of the spaces you can walk,
making them inaccessible. Also, once you step on a board, it sinks in.
Look carefully at what you're doing.  Example:

    So far, I have seen 4x4 and 3x5 grids.  If you are stuck, you can pause
and see some  of what you should do.  I generally never need to dash in this
game.
