0.) Preface
============
This is the complete walkthrough for Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - Legend
for the Gameboy Advance, (C) Eidos 2006, developed by Human Soft. As
usual, this walkthrough is given on an "as is" basis. It covers the
complete game from level 1 to the end sequence, however, it doesn«t
list all secrets, special items and extras the game might offer.
And, as usua, neither author nor publisher of this walkthrough can be
held responsible for any damage done to your Gameboy Advance, your
fingers, your head, other hard- or software while, before or after
reading this walkthrough.
Also, this walkthrough is as brief as possible since the game is, too.
It definetly lacks a complete description of every scene the games
offers since in most cases, it's pretty obvious what to do. This
walkthrough tries to cover the non-obvious aspects much rather than
the obvious ones.

This FAQ has been written for www.gamefaqs.com and should only be
distributed via their website.
This FAQ has been assembled without any help by other people, but the
walkthrough for the PS2/PC version of Tomb Raider Legend on
www.tombraidergirl.de gave me a few ideas.
1.) Version History
====================
2007-03-25: Version 1.0 - Initial Revision
2.) The Characters
===================
Lara Croft: The popular heroine of many Tomb Raider games and
and merchandise. Most popular in the mid-nineties,
then fell behind times end of the nineties.
She is an adventurer looking for relics and mysteries
of the past, she's also strong, witty, clever and
beautiful.
Alister Fletcher: Helpful character. No other info given, neither in the
manual nor in the game itself.
Amanda Evert: Past-time colleague of Lara Croft, now all evil, or
maybe not ? No other info given, neither in the manual
nor in the game.
Anaya Imanu: Helpful character. No other info given, neither in the
manual nor in the game itself.
Toru Nishimura: Friend of Lara Croft. No other info given, neither in
the manual nor in the game itself.
James.W. Rutland: Bad guy or so it seems. No other info given, neither in
the manual nor in the game itself.
Zip: Helpful character. No other info given, neither in the
manual nor in the game itself.
Winston Smith: Butler or maybe other helpful character. No other info
given, neither in the manual nor in the game itself.
Shogo Takamoto: Bad guy. No other info given, neither in the manual
nor in the game itself.
Frankly: Ignore the character description above. No character plays a
relevant role during the game itself. The cutscenes might feature some
of them, but the cutscenes are too brief to really understand the plot
so it's not really important to understand any of the characters either.
3.) The Plot
=============
Again, the Gameboy Advance version of Tomb Raider - Legend is a poor
copy of the other versions and it doesn't feature enough information in
any of the comic-like cutscenes to actually understand what's going on.
If you do not own a copy of the Gamecube, PS2, XBox, XBox360 or PC
version of the game, there's no chance for you to follow the plot, so
my recommendation is to ignore it.
In case you don't want to, the plot before the game actually starts
summarizes as follows: In the age of nine, Lara and her mother survived
a plane crash, however, her mother died under mysterios circumstances,
involving an ancient sword and an ancient device. Lara survived and
more than 10 years later, when climbing rocks in Bolivia, she all of
a sudden finds fragments of this mystical sword again. Assuming that
a copy of that sword exists, she starts investigating, only to be
surprised by a man named Rutland who already assembled a piece of
the sword and mentions the name of Lara's formerly colleague Amanda,
who has been presumed dead until now.
4.) Controls
=============
Since the Gameboy Advance lacks the millions of buttons Tomb Raider
games are commonly requiring, the controls have been simplified a
lot in order to maneuver and control Lara:
Digital Pad Up Climb upwards if possible
Activate Switch/Lever Lara stands under or
Walk through Door if Lara stands under one
Digital Pad Left Move to the left
Digital Pad Right Move to the right
Digital Pad Down Roll or Drop when used along with the B Button
Slide downwards
Button A Draw Weapons or Shoot
Button B Roll or Drop when being used with Down
Jump otherwise - along with direction
L Trigger Throw magnetic hook/hold rope
R Trigger Open Weapons Menu
Start Pause Menu (Continue/Restart/Quit)
Select PDA
The Magnetic Hook and Rope plays a vital role. It can usually be used
along with flash objects that can be pulled by throwing the hook and
the using the direction pad, that Lara can hang on to using the rope.
To pull objects, position Lara nearby, press and hold the L Trigger,
then use the D-pad to pull the object towards Lara.
In a similar fashion, Lara can use the magnetic hook on objects that
flash to swing from one platform to the other. Look for flashing hooks
or bars above Lara's head, then jump and press and hold L in midair.
Lara will attach herself to the flashing object and swing back and
forth.
Most other controls are very straight forward and should not cause
any confusion. Note that the PDA is absolutely useless in the Gameboy
Advance version, so you can very well ignore it.
5.) The Levels
===============
Actually, Croft Manor appears first in the menu the game offers, but
there's not much to do there yet, so the first real level is Bolivia.
All Levels are more or less segmented into individual "screens" that
contain obstacles for Lara to overcome, usually running from the left
to the right. Most scroll horizontally, some vertically and some in
both directions. The following paragraphs will handle one of these
"screens" each, after each of which the Gameboy Advance shows a
"loading" logo. Going back into the previous screen is impossible
in most cases, required in some. If so, the following paragraphics
will mention it as required.
5.1.) Bolivia
==============
The level starts with Lara hanging on a ledge.
Scene 1: Move right and upwards as you spot the ledges.
Scene 2: Move right, jump, swim and dive to get to the right screen.
There's a bronze secret down right in the water bassin.
Push the bolder by walking against it, releasing the D-Pad,
then pushing the D-Pad right again.
There's a silver secret where the boulder drops.
Climb the vines on the right side of the screen, run to the
left, jump onto the rope, climb it upwards slighty, start
swinging by pushing the D-Pad left then jump. The little
cave features a secret in the upper left half. Then climb
the rocks in the left half, jump up to the ledge and
move all the way right.
Scene 3: As soon as Lara drops from the ledge, a boulder starts
rolling. Simply climb up again. Run to the right, use
the bar above to jump to the right. The river bed has
a bronze secret on the far right side. Walk back a bit,
jump up to the ledge, jump up two more times, there's
a little platform featuring a silver secret to the left.
Move back right, then push the statue onto the wood.
Use the bar on its right end to jump up and run right.
Scene 4: Use the magnetic hook on the glowing round door, then
pull it to the left. Shoot enemies, collect silver
secret on the right. Jump up the ledges. Above you'll
find a rope, but on the left side is a bar and a silver
secret even further to the left. Run back right, use
the bars to jump further to the right, collect secret.
Scene 5: Shoot enemy, jump and hold on to the magnetic object
above Lara by using the Magnetic Hook (grapple). Run
to the right.
Scene 6: Shoot the two boulders and follow them. Run to the
right, shooting the other enemies in the way. If you
drop down from the rope, there's a secret down right.
Climb the rope half-way, swing to the right and jump
unto the platform.
Scene 7: Slide down, run to the right, shoot enemies, then
enter the cave.
Scene 8: Jump over the spinning spikes using the magnetic hook,
climb the right chain as far as possible, jump left,
climb up, then jump right twice. Carefully drop at the
end of the platform, collect the secret. Exit, stage right.
Scene 9: Dive, avoid the fishes, swim to the right, use the next
opening to collect the secret, dive again, swim to the
right. Run down the stairs, shoot the Jaguar. Pass the
first moving block by running under it, push the little
box all the way under both next blocks. Run to the right.
Scene 10: Ignore the chain, run to the right, drop and shoot the
Jaguar, push the box onto the lever, then jump onto the
other side of the lever to catapult the box upwards. Now
push both boxes onto the golden platforms. Now climb the
chain, jump to the right ledge, move to the right, then
up to the platform. Collect secret, then jump to the
chain, pass the gap to the right, then carefully drop
down unto the lower ledge. Move all the way right.
Scene 11: Run to the right, wait for the vertical slicers to
be up and jump over the horizontal slicers.
Scene 12: This looks more difficult than it is. Use the wheels
with the three bars to jump to the ledges to the right,
then jump up as far as possible, use the next wheel to
the right, jump to the ledges to the right, then up
again and that's it.
Cutscene: Lara meets Rutland in half dialogues that make no sense.
Scene 13: Run to the right and shoot enemies as they appear.
Cutscene: Lara finds first fragments.
5.2.) Peru
===========
Scene 1: Run to the right and climb the telephone pole. Jump to
the right, then run to the right and slide down the next
telephone pole. Run right again.
Cutscene: Lara meets Anaya
Scene 2: Climb the boxes to the left, jump up to the platform. Use
the bars to jump to the right. The next ceiling with the
golden ledges allows to carefully drop down to an enemy
soldier and a secret. Jump up again and move to the right.
The next passage is very unfair: Run to the right end of
the roof, then carefully estimate the distance to the
ledge to the right side of the window. The window itself
has no ledge and the ledges left and right of the window
are not easy to reach. Try to jump in a way that Lara
can grab the ledge to the right side of the window, then
jump to the right again and pull yourself up to the roof.
Drop down on the next occassion, walk to the right then
slide along the rope downwards. Walk right, fight enemies,
climb the next white pole, run right, fight enemies and
run to the door on the right side of the screen.
Scene 3: Run to the right, jump to the telephone pole, climb up
and collect silver secret after shooting the enemy. Run
back to the telephone pole and slide down. Walk right and
shoot the enemies in the way. There's another secret on
the right side of the ladder. Then go back and climb the
ladder. Run to the right, falling onto the wooden roof,
keep running and jump over the gaps. Slide down the white
pole, shoot the enemy, then pass the truck and the motor-
cycle.
Scene 4: Simple vertical motorcycle race. Shoot all enemies and
try to collect a medi-pack here and there. They're on the
right side mostly.
Scene 5: Go slow, speed is not the issue here. Follow this path:
Right, Right, Left to dodge the fire and the gaps.
Scene 6: Same as scene 4
Cutscene: Flashback: Lara and Amanda discover something.
Scene 7: Roll under the obstacle, slide down and then jump onto
the ledge held by the ropes. Jump to the right, then up.
Roll the boulder to the golden spot, then jump onto the
boulder and up to the bar. Jump to the right. Move to
right and jump to the brownish ledge. Move to the right
again and keep walking. Roll the next boulder onto the
golden switch to remove the spears, then climb the
boulder to catch the rope. Swing to the right, jump,
walk a bit, then carefully drop down.
Scene 8: Carefully drop down, then walk to the right and jump up
to the platform. Above are several ledges and a little
to the left is a platform with a secret. Then go back
and hang on to the lowest and widest ledge. Jump to the
bar on the right side and continue jumping to the rope.
Climb it a little to reach the ledge on the right side
by swinging to the right. The lower platform has a secret,
then jump up to the upper platform. Run to the right,
then to the ledge held by the ropes. Do not drop down.
Scene 9: Drop into the bassin and dive. There's a golden secret
on the left side of the ground. Swim to the right,
breathe, then swim to the right and activate all 4
glowing buttons - She can do all 4 without breathing.
Scene 10: Run to the right, jump up to the three ledges, then up to
the platform. Use the magnetic hook on the glowing mask to
swing to the right. Jump up using the ledges on the right
side, climb up to the platform, then jump over the glowing
mask to the platform on the left. Climb the ladder for a
secret, jump back to the platform to the right. Back to the
ledges and move to the right until you find a small platform
with another glowing mask above it. Use it with the magnetic
hook to swing to the right and exit this screen.
Scene 11: Run to the right until you find three brown ledges to jump
up to. Climb the platform and roll the boulder over the
edge. Drop down and push the boulder onto the golden switch.
Run to the right, climb the ladder, jump to the brownish
ledges, then back to the next ladder. Jump up to the platform
and roll the boulder over the edge. Then move back down the
way you came up and roll the boulder onto the second golden
switch. Enter gate.
Cutscene: Lara finds a fragment and needs to go to Tokyo.
Scene 12: Jump up using all available ledges, then move to the right
to reach the ladder. Keep jumping and moving along the
ledges up and to the right until you seem to be stuck and
there's only one ledge below you visible. Drop down to it
and then jump to the right. Walk right on this platform and
catch the rope. Swing to the right, jump onto the platform,
then to the next and slide down. Shoot enemy.
Scene 13: Slide down, shoot enemies while running to the right.
Climb up the rope almost to the top, swing back and forth
to reach the platform, climb up to the ladder on the right,
then climb the ladder itself. Jump up the two ledges, then
to the platform on the right. Shoot enemy soldiers.
5.3.) Japan
===========
Scene 1: Walk right.
Scene 2: Walk right, down the stairs, talk to the barkeeper. Then
walk right to the next brown door, press up there, then
run left.
Cutscene: Lara meets Takamoto.
Scene 3: Run right, shoot all soliders. The last has a chip card.
Use the bluesish door on the right, then walk right into
the elevator. Ride it up.
Scene 4: Pass the motorcycle behind glass, run to the left.
Scene 5: Walk left then shoot the barrels. Climb up the pole, jump
to the platform on the right, jump right again, collect
bronze secret to the far right, then run back to the left.
Run left to the glowing transparent rooftop. Position
yourself on the left side of it, then use the magnetic hook
to move it - You need to be just aside the blue glass, Lara
cannot use the grapple otherwise. To drop down, stand under-
neath the opening, then jump.
Scene 6: Walk left, collect secret and ride the motorcycle.
Scene 7: Lara will drive to the left and shortly after speeding up,
you need to hold L to leave the motorcycle in time. Jump
to the left again.
Scene 8: Walk left onto the next platform and drop down once to
collect a secret. Walk left, across the boxes and climb up
the platform above you. Walk to the left and climb up to
the platform above. Collect silver secret sitting on the
box. Carefully drop down again. Walk left, drop down to
the lowest platform and shoot the hanging blue window to
the left, then jump up one platform to catch the rope from
there. Slide down a bit, then swing to the left to jump to
the next platform. Drop down one platform from there to
collect a secret on the far left side. Climb back up, then
slide down the diagonal rope.
Next, use the magnetic hook to pull the swinging platform
towards yourself. Release hook and jump onto it, then jump
left again. Repeat with the next two swinging platforms.
Run left, shoot enemy soliders and enter the door above.
Scene 9: Run to the left and up the stairs until you see a narrow
pole you can climb. Climb it up, then jump to the right and
walk right to collect another secret. Run back left and
down the stairs to enter the door.
Scene 10: Run all the way right, shoot 3 enemy soldiers and collect
bronze secret. Walk back left and use the magnetic hook
on the glowing display. Enter the pathway now opened.
Scene 11: Run right to climb up the pole, then jump to the platform
on the left. Use the rotating constructions to jump all the
way left, climb the ladder and repeat by jumping to the
right. Aim carefully, Lara is likely to miss the hard to
bars. Ideally, walk the platform to the very right, drop
but keep hanging on the edge of the platform and jump
right then. Collect secret to the far right side, then
get back the same way you came to the platform on the
upper end of the ladder. Jump to the bar of the rotating
construction again, ride it up and then turn left to jump
to the pole. Climb it up all the way, then jump to the
right into the rotating construction again. Jump all the
way to a platform and to a pole from there. Climb it up
all the way, then to the bar to the left. Keep jumping to
the left until you reach the building and enter the blue
door.
Scene 12: Run all the way left to the red illuminated room. Shoot
enemy soldier and collect secret. Go back right a little
and enter the door.
Scene 13: Jump to behind the ball on the left, then push it all the
way right, it will shield you from the guns in the floor
and the enemy bullets. Then jump over the ball and shoot
the enemy soldiers. Run all the way right to shoot another
soldier and collect a medi-pack. Then back again to enter
the wooden hallway.
Scene 14: Walk right and use the grapple on the glowing dragon. Make
it swing so it'll crush a window to the right. Jump through
the window.
Scene 15: Run right a little bit. Shooting enemy soldiers will give
you guns and ammunition, then go back to the blue elevator
door. Meet the boss.
Scene 16: Run right, there's another secret. Then climb a random
ladder. Use grenades on the boss.
Cutscene: Lara gathers another fragment.
5.4.) Ghana
============
Scene 1: Walk right and drop into the water bassin. Collect secret on
the right side near the middle. Run to the right and climb
over the block. Cross the water bassin.
Cutscene: Lara meets Rutland again.
Scene 2: Walk right and shoot the jaguar. Walk right again up to the
water bassin. Pull the floating glowing plank, then jump to
the rope. Swing and jump to the next rope. Repeat all over
the water bassin and the next one. Cross the final water
bassin, shoot the well cloaked soldier.
Scene 3: Run right, shoot solider, run right. There's a golden switch
in the floor. If you have enough medi-packs, keep running.
Otherwise, time your runs with the moving spears and roll
under the slowly closing door on the right.
Scene 4: Shoot soldier. Run to the right and catch the rope. Swing
to the right and catch a bar on the rotating disc. Swing
again when you reach the right side of the disc and jump
to the platform (not necessarily visible). Repeat two
times and catch the ladder on the right hand side of the
screen. Climb up.
Scene 5: Climb ladder, run to the right, climb next ladder.
Jump to the ledge on the left. There are several ways to
cross the screen, jumping up and to the left, then up,
to the right, up, up and then all the way left is not the
only way. Jump to the ladder on the left hand side of the
screen, then climb up. Jump to the platform on the right,
shoot the jaguar and run to the right.
Scene 6: Walk to the right, shoot the jaguar, then jump. Climb up
to the stairs, then keep running right. Climb up again
until you see a pulley. Ride it down, then jump to the
other one having been lifted up. Jump to the right again
to the platform. Carefully jump over the first gap, but
then drop down carefully to the left to drop onto a
floating platform. Use the golden glowing bricks with the
magnetic hook to pull yourself across the water bassin.
Climb up to the top platform, then climb up the ladder.
There's a secret on top, the climb down the ladder again
and jump to the ledges on the right side. Drop to the lower,
then jump to the moveable platform, which lifts up the
opposite one again. Shortly after their height matched,
jump to the other platform, then jump again to grap the
ladder. Climb up.
Scene 7: Climb down the ladder, collect golden secret. Climb back up.
There's a glowing bar over the head in the wall. Jump and
use grapple to swing across the gap. Then jump to the ledges.
Again, there are several ways to cross the screen, but going
to the right steadily using ledges above and below you will
work. Jump to the platform on the right, exit stage right.
Scene 8: Run to the left, climb down the ladder, then jump to the
ledges on the right side and keep moving right. There's
another ladder on the far right side. Move on down and shoot
the jaguar. Run to the left to find another ladder. Climb it
down.
Scene 9: Walk right, then jump into the rotating disc with the bars.
Jump right again to catch a ladder, which you climb up.
Scene 10: Shoot soldier. Run right, then jump over the spinning
spikes, even though they look like you should roll under
them. Walk up stairs, repeat jumping over the spinning
spikes - ideally when they move towards you - and leave the
screen right hand side.
Scene 11: Move right, then the boulder starts rolling. There are
spikes to the right. Roll under the first one, jump over
the second one, roll again, jump again. You can drop into
the pit (carefully) to avoid the boulder or keep running.
Scene 12: Jump to the right to grab the bar. Swing to the right and
jump up to the platform. Repeat once, then jump onto the
moving platform and wait. Drop onto the little platform in
the middle, then jump to the next brown platform. Jump
again towards the waterfall. Jump to the next platforms then
up the ledges. There's something looking like a bar to the
left hand side of the first ledge, but it's none. Keep
jumping up to the reach the mini-platform, then jump to the
obvious bar on the right hand side. Jump to it, then jump
to the platform on the right. Exit to the right.
Scene 13: Shoot the jaguar, then run up the stairs. Use the glowing
something with the magnetic hook to cross the gap. Repeat.
Collect silver secret. Repeat. Shoot enemy soldier.
Run to the right, shooting more soldiers.
Scene 14: There are fake ledges above, they cannot be used. Instead
run to the right, shoot enemy soldier and climb up to the
upper platform. Jump to the bar on the left and jump from
bar to bar until you reach a ledge on the left hand side.
Jump all the way up, then to the bar on the right hand
side. Again, jump from bar to bar until you reach the next
platform on the right. Shoot enemy soldiers, keep running.
Scene 15: Shoot the jaguar, then climb the platform. As you reach it,
a boulder will start to roll towards you, so drop down again
and hide under the platform on the right side until the
boulder is gone. Then climb back up, run to the right until
you see a rope. Jump to the rope, swing forward until
another boulder starts to roll. Now drop from the rope
to the right side, then drop into the pit on the right side.
You're safe from the boulder there. As soon as the boulder
dropped into the pit, climb up again. Run up the stairs on
the right hand side. Meet the boss, Rutland.
Scene 16: Rutland is running around, throwing grenades and punching
Lara. As soon as Lara has injured him down to half of the
energy, Rutland will jump up a ledge Lara cannot reach and
regain energy. Then, stand on the little stone steps and
use the grapple to pull down the glowing red eyes from the
statue. Fight Rutland again and repeat pulling down the red
eyes from each statue. The best strategy is to stand under
the ledges since he will hardly use grenades then or to
run around Rutland since he will not use grenades then but
Lara can shoot him.
Cutscene: Lara gains Rutland's fragment.
5.5.) Kasachstan
=================
Cutscene: Kasachstan under attack by Rutland's soldiers.
Scene 1: Jump off the cliff and press A mid air to use a parachute.
Lara will drop onto a roof. Carefully drop down, then run
right to shoot enemy soldiers, then enter the building through
the door.
Scene 2: Run right, shoot soldiers, then climb up the ladder.
Scene 3: Jump to the right to the other roof, then pull yourself up to
the next platform on the right hand side. Shoot enemy soldier,
then slide down the wooden plank. Climb down the ladder and
shoot two enemy soldiers. Run to the right and enter the
next building.
Scene 4: Run right and turn off the computer by standing underneath it
and pressing Up on the D-Pad. Leave the building through the
door.
Scene 5: Run to the right, fighting the enemy soldiers. Climb up the
ladder on the building to the right. Jump up the wooden boxes,
then slide down the rope. Carefully drop down, shoot two more
enemy soldiers, then run to the left to ride the motorcycle
again.
Scene 6: Same vertical motorcycle race again. Shoot enemy vehicles,
try to catch a medi-pack here and there, mostly appearing on
the right side again this time.
Cutscene: Lara boards the train or something.
Scene 7: Walk left and carefully drop down using the boxes. Then walk
right and jump up to the cylindrical objects to pull yourself
up to the platform above with the ladder. Climb it up and
carefully drop down on the right hand side, grabbing the
ledge. Then move right and jump to the bar over the fire.
Jump right again to the red ledge from which you can drop
down to the next platform. Jump right to the golden
pillar-like apparatus - Lara can stand in its middle.
Carefully drop down onto the box and jump to the platform
to pull yourself up. Run all over the platform and jump to
a red ledge on the right end of the platform. Drop down
and run left to collect a silver secret. Run back right
and jump up all the ledges, the move to the right. Shoot
the gigantic ventilator, jump through the hole and leave
the scene to the right.
Scene 8: Run right and slide down - It's basically impossible to
pass this unharmed. Jump over the minor gap and climb down
the ladder on the right side to collect a secret.
Now walk to the right and carefully aim your jump to the
bar visible to the right - Carefully dropping from the
platform but not to any of the ledges should work. Swing
and jump to the right to land on a platform not visible
until then. Jump to the silvery ledge on the right hand
side of the platform, jump up again until you can move
to the right side to reach another platform. Slide down -
again it's basically impossible to time this to stay
unharmed - Jump over the flashing bits, shoot another
ventilator and roll under the open cables. Run to the right
to leave this screen.
Scene 9: Run, slide down, shoot the ventilator and roll under the
cables. Shoot another ventilator, then climb the little
platform to jump over the cloud of steam emerging from one of
the pipes. Run to the right.
Scene 10: Again, slide down, shoot the ventilator and then jump to the
bar on the right hand side directly from the end of the
sliding area. No other distance will match. Jump from bar to
bar, then use the grapple on the glowing disc next to swing to
a platform on the far right side. Down below is a silver
secret, but it's basically impossible to get this unharmed.
In case you dropped use the ledges on the left side to climb
up again. Finally, exit the scene to the right.
Scene 11: Jump over the flashing bits, then roll underneath the flashing
bits on the pipe. Climb up the little plattform, jump to the
ledge with the grid under it, then jump right to the platform.
Pull yourself up, then run to the end of the platform on the
right side. Use the magnetic hook on the pipe and lower it,
then run back to the left, jump to the ledge with the grid
and drop. Roll under the twitching cables, then walk right
and use the magnetic hook on the flashing part of the
generator. Back to the ledge with the grid, jump up and then to
the platform again. Run right, drop from the platform but keep
hanging to it, then jump right. Run right to exit.
Scene 12: Run right to climb the first platform, jump to the bar - aim
carefully, then jump right again to the next platform.
Jump over the vertical iron grid to land on the boxes, then
jump to the bar next to you. Jump right to the platform and
pull yourself up. Run right again, jump over the iron grid.
Now you can either jump up to the platform(s) and make your
way over the dangerous parts or simply run through everything,
taking minor damage. This way or other, the end of this screen
is on the right side.
Scene 13: Walk right, carefully drop, then jump over the blue cables.
Now you face three poles. The first two are covered with
electricity, so climb the third one, then jump to the bar
on your right hand side. Jump to the next platform and pull
yourself up. Now jump to the pole on the left covered with
electricity, either risking damage or alternating poles whenever
the flashing bits come near. Make your way to the left, climbing
the last pole so that Lara can jump to the bar. Jump to the
left over all three bars to the platform in reach. Jump over
the flashing bits to the far left, then use the three golden
pipes to climb up, then jump right to the golden ledge.
Jump over the flashing bits near the right end of the ledge,
then aim carefully to grab the bar. Use it to jump to the next
bar then to a grey ledge with a small grid. Jump over the
flashing bits in between the two latches to the right, then to
the next platform. Shoot the ventilator, run to the right.
Scene 14: Shoot the ventilator, run right, then jump up to the first
platform, jump to the bar, then to the next platform. At the
end jump right again.
Scene 15: Walk right until you can go no further, then climb the ladder
in reach. Walk the platform to the right end, then jump to the
right, grabbing the ledge. Move right, jump over the gap -
carefully since the end of the primary ledge is too far and
Lara will drop all the way down. Jump right again to hold on the
large red ledge, then jump to the bar on the right hand side.
Jump again and then to the next large red ledge. Next to that,
Lara can walk and climb down a ladder. Use it to get down to
the ground, or drop carefully on the right side of the platform
to jump to the bar, then jump to the next large red ledge.
From there, Lara can jump to a little platform behind a window,
then jump and use the magnetic hook in mid-air. jump right again
and jump to the computer console near the next window. Interact
by pressing the D-Pad Up underneath the computer. Then climb
down the ladder. Pull the glowing box towards you to open the
door.
If you jump the left in this scene from the first large red
ledge you can collect secrets and there's another one on the
ground.
Cutscene: Lara gains a shield.
Cutscene: Undead Amanda makes her debut.
Scene 16: Run right, then climb the ladder. Jump to the bar on the left
and aim carefully. Jump left again and climb the next ladder.
Ignore the fake ledge, instead collect the silver secret on
the top platform, then jump right and use the grapple.
Run to the right and switch off all 3 computer consoles the
usual way. Climb the ladder on the right hand side to collect
a golden secret, but then walk back and climb the ladder back
down. Run to the left and get back down the same way you got
up. On the ground floor, run right into the apparatus. Then
scare off the creature first and shoot the magnetic balls
afterwards. If they're in position, leave the apparatus by
pressing Down and use the magnetic hook to collect the item now
available.
5.6.) England
==============
Cutscene: Back to King Arthur
Scene 1: Run right, then climb the rain pipe. Jump to the left from the
top of it and then make your way left using the ledges, then
up. If you cannot get higher, move to the right, collect a
bronze secret, then get back down. Run right into the building,
then pull the box left to the outside, climb it and use the
magnetic hook on the window. Jump to the ledge on the ride
and roll into the building. Use the grapple again and roll out
of the building again. Run to the right until you reach a fence,
jump to the ledge above the window, then up to the large one,
move over the fence, drop and turn on the generator. Climb the
pipe on the right hand side, jump to the ledge and move left
back over the fence, then use the ledges to cross the water
puddle which is now charged. Run back all the way left, climb
over the box, activate the tomb stone to open the door, enter
the building using the door.
Scene 2: Run to the right and jump over the gaps. The third gap has
some slightly visible ledges on the right side of the pit.
Drop down there carefully and run to the left to collect
another silver secret, then jump up all the ledges again.
Then use the bars to cross the next large gap. Shoot the
boat to cross the next gap. Run to the far right, use the
magnetic hook again on a grid, then run right to collect
another bronze secret. Run back left, activate the tomb stone
and enter the door.

Scene 4: Keep driving, Lara will stay unharmed.
Scene 5: Hold L to hold onto the ledge as the vehicle drops.
Now there are many way to get down safe and sound, there are
some secrets on the way, but generally, by using ledges and
stairs, it's easy to get down the soft way. Exit, stage right.
Scene 6: Jump over the first gap, then run up the stairs and push the box
into the fire. Climb it and jump to the right using the magnetic
hook on the bars above you. Use the magnetic hook to pull the
next box to you, then repeat the jumping using the grapple.
Use the next gate to go right and collect a bronze secret.
Get back and use the little ledge on the left side of the gate.
Climb up, then move right to the platform. Walk right and drop
carefully. Repeat the procedure with the box and the grapple.
There are more ledges leading upwards and to the right. Use them
to get onto another platform to the right, then collect a bronze
secret on the next platform to the right. Get back the same way
you came, run right and down the stairs.
Scene 7: You see a little ledge to the left. Use it to get upwards, then
at the top, go to the right to collect a bronze secret.
Carefully get down, then run to the right. There's a switch and
some ledges just above it. Use them to get up and to collect
another bronze secret to the upper left. Carefully drop down
again and get into the water. Swim all across the bassin, then
go through the gate on the right hand side. Run all the way left
to collect another bronze secret. Get back and move right to the
little ledge near the platform. Use it to get to the platform.
Then use the magnetic hook to fetch the bronze secret. Use the
ledges to get up and to the left onto a little platform. Jump
to the left from there to the next platform, up to the long
ledge and move left until you reach another platform. You spot
a glowing cascet to the left. Use the magnetic hook to get it
down. Then drop down unto it and ride it to the left by
using the grapple on the glowing lamps and pulling yourself
the left. Then jump to the platform, stand near the switch
and use the magnetic hook to pull the cascet onto the switch.
Go through the now open gate to the left.
Scene 8: Run left and use the ledges to get up and to the left, where
you find another bronze secret. Then move along the ledges to
the upper right to pull another silver secret towards you,
using the magnetic hook. From there, use the ledges to the
left to carefully get down to the platform near another
glowing cascet. Pull it down, then drop into the water,
get on the cascet and ride it all the way to the right until you
reach a blocked gate. Go through the gate, then swim to the
right up to the platform. Now jump up to the ledges and a little
to the left, drop down to a platform. There's another bronze
secret to the right. Fetch it, get back and go through the gate to
collect a bronze secret to the right. From there, jump up to the
next ledge to the right and carefully make your way down.
Back in the water, activate both switches and get through the
now open gate..
Scene 9: Swim to the left, get on the platform, then jump up to the ledge
and move left. go upwards and get onto the upper left platform.
Go through the gate visible to the upper left, then jump to the
right.
Scene 10: Run through this scene all the way to the right.
Scene 11: Use the first ledge to move up, the to the right onto the little
pillar from which you can jump to a bar to the right. Jump
across all three bars to a platform, then jump up the ledges.
When you reach the top ledge, jump to the left to the next bar,
Jump to the left onto the platform. There's a ledge, use it to
get up, then jump to the bar on the right, jump to the next bar,
then to the latch, jump up and up to the little platform next to
collect a silver secret. Make your way back to the middle
platform using the bars again, run to the left and onto the next
bar again. From there, jump left to the ledge, then up until
you can get onto the top platform by jumping to the right.
Run to the right, pass the opening to find another bronze
secret, then get back to the opening and enter the building.
Scene 12: Run to the right, get onto the small pillar, then onto the
bigger one. Drop carefully to collect the silver secret, then
get onto the large pillar again and use the magnetic hook to make
the lamp swing. Release the hook, then jump to the right onto the
weight - it's no use trying to catch the rope.
The lamp should hit the bell, if it does not, repeat until it
does.
Cutscene: Lara finds Excalibur.
Scene 13: Run left and throw the switch near the sea snake where you
spot it. Once all cages have been dropped onto the snake, use
the chain in the middle to climb up.
Scene 14: Jump up to the bar, then jump to the right. Next, use the grapple
to cross the next gap. Jump over the next gap and jump almost
immediatelly again after you started sliding. Now Lara falls
onto the sea snake, but she can use the grapple near the snake.
However, Lara must not touch the snake so the grapple must be
used when she is very close to the bar the grapple attaches to.
Try to keep the rope as short as possible when swinging past the
snake. This will take a few retries.
Then move right, jump up the wooden ledges and run to the right.
There are more ledges leading to another secret.
Scene 15: Now get back the way you came. Move to the left, go through the
gate, walk left again and stand near the fire to use the magnetic
hook on the box again. Climb the box and jump using the grapple
to cross the fire. Repeat and exit the screen to the left.
Scene 16: Like you came down here you can move up again, too. However,
the easiest way is using the long chain in the middle and climb
all the way up. Then use the bar to the right, jump and leave.
Scene 17: Run all the way right, shoot enemy soldiers and collect bronze
secret on the top floor. Then leave through the large gate.
Cutscene: Lara finds out about her mother.
5.7.) Nepal
============
Scene 1: Jump up to the first ledge and move to the right. Hurry up,
the ledge is falling apart. Jump to the platform, jump
again and climb up. Slide down and jump half way down, then
jump again, then run up a little path. Jump to the bar, then
jump to the right onto a little platform. Drop carefully to
collect a bronze secret. Climb up again, then jump using the
glowing object above Lara's head with the magnetic hook. Swing
to the right and jump to the ice pillar. Jump again until you
reach icy ledges. Keep moving to the right and up to reach the
next platform. Shoot the ice-covered entrance.
Scene 2: Run right, jump, slide, jump, slide and so on. You shouldn't stop
anyplace because some platforms fall apart after a while. Might
require a few retries. Finally, jump to a bar, swing then jump
to the right, using the magnetic hook on the glowing object.
Jump right again to land on the next platform. Jump again and
walk to the end of the next icy platform. Carefully drop down
here to land on a mini platform. To the right is a secret.
Drop down, shoot the tiger and run to the right.
Scene 3: Shoot the tiger, and run right. Jump over the little glowing
boulder, then use the magnetic hook to pull it towards you
and into the plane. Now run to the right until you hear that
Lara collected the fragment of the sword, then run to the left
and jump. If you're lucky, she'll grap the edge of the platform,
if not, she'll drop. Repeat until you make it.
Scene 4: Jump to the right, slide and jump again to grab the bar. Jump
to the right again and jump immediatelly again and again to
avoid the gaps in the skiddy path downwards. Jump finally to grab
another bar, jump right again and exit the screen.
Scene 5: Move right and jump onto the little ledges in the vertical plane.
Jump up all the way and get onto the platform. Run and jump to
the bar visible to the right. Jump to the right and hold on to
one of the ledges. Use them to get down to collect a secret.
Now go up again, jump right and then right again to the larger
ledge. Move to its edge, then jump to the bar on the right.
Jump to the right again to grab the ice pillar, climb this up a
little, jump to the right, climb a little again, jump again and
immediatelly jump again to the ledge on the right side. Move to
the right and jump to the icy platform. Jump up to the next
ledge, jump right repeatedly, but be careful about missing a
ledge. Land on a platform - there's a secret to the left - then
climb up the pole on the larger platform, from there, jump right
to one ledge, jump to another ledge, then up to a platform.
Run right to leave this scene.
Scene 6: Walk right and shoot the enemy soldiers. Climb up the pillars
and jump from one to the other. If you fall, shoot the enemy
soldiers but do not drop into the water on the right hand side.
On the right end of the top platform, there's a glowing object
visible only when jumping to cross the next gap by using the
grapple. Jump onto the next platform, shoot soldier, then jump
up to slide down the rope. Run to the right and slide down.
Scene 7: Run to the right, jump from ice platform to platform, run
again, repeat on the moving ice platforms, collect secret on the
right hand side, then enter the gate.
Scene 8: Run right, shoot the tiger, then use the magnetic hook several
times during jumping to cross the large gap. Run right again.
Pull the glowing box on the moveable platform, then jump up
and walk right. Drop down and pull the other box towards the
middle of the screen. When near the moveable platform, climb the
box and jump onto the moveable platform. It will slowly come
down. Then use the magnetic hook to pull this box to the platform,
pull it by hand the last few centimeters. Now the golden glowing
box will stay up so it can be pulled onto the golden switch.
Drop down and enter the gate.
Scene 9: Walk right to the circular symbol on the floor.
Cutscene: Lara assembles Excalibur or a look-a-like.
Scene 9: Run right to the closed door. Now equip Excalibur by using the
R-Button and smash the golden door.
Scene 10: Keep running and jumping. The platforms are too small for Lara
to land and jump while running so you have to stop on each
platform then jump again.
5.8.) Bolivia II
=================
Cutscene: Lara, Amanda and Rutland unite. Or don't they ...
Scene 1: Walk right, fight enemy soldiers.
Cutscene: Amanda transforms into something ugly.
Scene 2: This is it. The final boss fight. Simply equip Excalibur and
attack the transformed Amanda whenever in reach. While she
hardly causes harm, a hit by Excalibur costs Amanda roughly
1/4 of her energy.
Cutscene: Lara meets her mother again and Amanda explains it all. Sort of.
Cutscene: End credits.
5.9.) Croft Manor
==================
Generally: Croft Manor should now burst with secrets. Simply run around
and press Up on the D-Pad whenever you stand underneath something
glowing. This way, Lara will gather more secrets, allowing to
unlock more extras.
6.) Extras
===========
6.1.) Minigames
================
Every mini game requires to be unlocked by spending a certain amount of
secrets (gold/silver/bronze) like it is shown in the lower left corner of
the screen.
6.1.1.) Klotski
================
The aim of the game is to move the square with the large wooden square to
the target destination as shown on the background picture. To achieve that,
other blocks need to be moved in order to clear the passage. Some blocks
only move in one direction, some in several.
All blocks can be moved by pointing at them, pressing and holding A, then
moving the block.
The shorter the time per puzzle, the better.
6.1.2.) Memory
===============
A number of cards is being displayed, each can be flipped by pointing at a
card and pressing A. Two cards can be turned at the same time. If the
pictures on these two cards match, the couple stays turned over, if not,
they automatically flip over again.
The initial levels feature 4 x 4 cards, the later levels feature more cards.
Again, the quicker a playfield is cleared, the better.
6.1.3.) Puzzle
===============
The usual sliding puzzle game. A picture is fragmented into 4 x 4 tiles
and 1 tile is eliminated, leaving space to move one tile at a time. The
tiles are then shuffled slightly and need to be rearranged by the player
until they match the original picture. A tile can be moved by pointing at
it and pressing A. If the tile cannot be moved, nothing happens.
Again, the quicker a puzzle is completed, the better.
6.1.4.) 6Bit
=============
The screen displays 6 slots and 6 buttons underneath. By pressing a button,
a certain number of slots are affected and either scroll in or scroll out
a picture. The aim is to press the buttons in a combination that all slots
are filled by the picture.
Again, the quicker the playfield is cleared, the better.
6.2.) Cinematics
=================
The "Cinematics" are available according to the progress in the game and do not
require to be unlocked by spending secrets on them.
Slightly misleading, this option actually shows the comic-like static
pictures that make up the plot of Tomb Raider Legend. They are identical to
those shown during the game. Due to a little bug, the episode of the level the
player is actually stuck in is available already, even if the player has not
yet cleared this level.
6.3.) Characters
=================
Every picture requires to be unlocked by spending a certain amount of secrets.
Pictures of all protagonists that appear in Tomb Raider Legend, whether they
have impact on the plot or not, including the beast being battled in Bolivia.
6.4.) Cheat Codes
==================
Every cheat requires to be unlocked by spending a certain amount of secrets.
There are two cheats available that need to be unlocked and can then be
activated anytime during the game.
Bullet-proof Lara: Hold L, then press B, R, B, A, Down, Down
Unlimited ammunition: Hold L, then Ÿress A, B, Down, R, Up, Left
The first cheat makes Lara invulnerable against enemy fire but she is still
harmed by falling too deep. Since enemy bullets are no real harm in the game,
this cheat is rather senseless.
Same goes for the second cheat. Since Lara's standard pistols have unlimited
ammunition and are absolutely sufficient for any foe in the game, unlimited
ammo makes the game neither easier nor harder.
6.5.) Time Trial
=================
List the best times the player has achieved for each level. When replaying
a level you already cleared as "time trial", there are no secrets to collect
and your current time and the best time yet are being displayed in the upper
right corner of the screen, also, there are no hints being displayed.
7.) Closing Comments
=====================
So, that was it. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - Legend for the Gameboy Advance.
The fourth attempt to release a portable Tomb Raider after two poor and
basically uncontrollable attempts on the Gameboy Colour and a decent, yet
slightly un-tomb-raider-like version for the Gameboy Advance.
Is it as much fun as the over-hyped, all new all shiny next-next-generation
of Tomb Raider on PS2, XBox, PC and Gamecube squeezed into 2D or is it just
an attempt to make some more money out of the popular and well-shaped heroine ?
I'm afraid it's the latter.
While there's no doubt that the Gameboy Advance is not capable of delivering
the graphics and atmosphere the next-generation stationary video game systems
can produce this episode of Tomb Raider is based on, that still doesn't mean
it's not possible to produce a good puzzle and action game - The Prophecy
was pretty good proof that it is possible.
However, Human Soft has tried to put the plot, the characters and - more or
less - the original levels into 2D and that never works. The plot has been
squeezed into comic-like pictures which are confusing and hard to follow
and lack large amount of detailes required to actually understand anything.
The history of Lara and Amanda stays totally unexplained and the ending
remains a mystery.
Of course that wouldn't harm the fun if the plot was secondary and the game
was good fun by itself. But it is not. All the player is required to do is
to find the next ledge to jump to. There are a few puzzles to solve but
while they have been delicately arranged in the other versions of the game,
they are far too obvious on the Gameboy Advance version, spoiling most of
them. Otherwise, it's mainly running and jumping an awful lot with a few
unfair scenes where you cannot prevent Lara from taking harm. Enemy soldier
fights - very well done on the other versions - are a bad joke since they
never mean serious harm only to be topped by the totally redundant boss
fights which are no challenge at all, not to mention the absolutely
ridiculous motorcycle race levels.
No, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - Legend is not a good game on the Gameboy
Advance. There have been worse but a good game plays different. So once
again, the Tomb Raider hype is being abused to make a quick buck.
