Version 2.0 (7-15-02) - This update basically finishes this
FAQ/Strategy Guide. I completely updated the FAQ to be used
with both versions of this game. The Time Trial, License,
and Co-Driver modes are completely done. The only thing left
is the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) and I can't really
start that until someone asks me questions.
Version 1.9 (7-12-02) - Very minor update that actually
turned into a major update. I added an update to the About
the Game section. I also started to update the FAQ/Strategy
Guide to be used with both versions of the same game which
actually turns out to be a long process. I also added my
recognition webpage on GameFAQs and revised the Copyright
Notice.
Version 1.8 (6-11-02) - I finally added the last car! So the
Car List is completely finished. This is just a minor update.
I will still have to finish the Time Trial, License, and Co-
Driver modes. And of course, I still need your fast times!
Version 1.7 (4-13-02) - I added another car to the Car List
so that leaves me with only one missing car. I finished
the Single Race Mode and Option Mode. The next update will
probably be my last, but of course this FAQ/Strategy Guide
is NEVER finished because people can still send me their
fast times (hint, hint), ask me questions, and also any
corrections.
Version 1.5 (4-12-02) - I finished the World Rally Mode
and rearranged the Car List so that the cars are in order
of when you win them and I added some cars. I finished the
Practice and Link Modes and I put in most of my times for
the Fast Times. Please send in your fast times. I can't
start the FAQ until you frequently ask me questions, so
ask me some questions! :) This FAQ/Strategy Guide has
grown quite quickly and looks like it will be done very
shortly. Hey, L@@K! It's Homer: ~(_8-(|).
Version 1.0 (4-11-02) - Initial version of this FAQ. The
Introduction and Game Basics are done. The Car List is
mostly done except for a few cars and half of the World
Rally mode is done. Barely started the Fast Times. The
next update will finish mostly everything.

-= About this Guide =-
This guide was written entirely by me, H2K03 (Henry Kim),
and is intended (hopefully) to help you with this game.
This FAQ/Strategy Guide is my first so please bear that
in mind when reading.
I decided to write this FAQ/Strategy Guide because I love
Advance Rally and I want to help anyone who wants complete
and comprehensive information about the game.
If you would like to contribute something to this guide,
please feel free to e-mail me (
[email protected]) with
"Advance Rally FAQ" in the subject line.
-= About the Game =-
Advance Rally, in my opinion, is the best racing game in
the realistic racing genre for the Gameboy Advance. Of
course, if you like Go-Kart racing you should jump right
into Mario Kart but if you like realistic racing, Advance
Rally is the game for you!
*Update* There seems to be quite a big confusion in the
gaming world about racing games by MTO and their different
country versions. I will try to clear this confusion up.
GT Advance 2: Rally Racing (USA) is the same game as
Advance Rally (JPN) with few minor differences. In
addition, GT Advance (USA) is the same game as Advance GTA
(JPN) with few minor differences. And, the new Advance GT 2
(JPN) is not the same game as GT Advance 2: Rally Racing!!
Advance GT 2 does NOT have a U.S. counterpart as of right
now. Hope this helps everyone, including GameFAQs, who also
had a mistake on their site which has now been fixed.
This FAQ/Strategy Guide was initially made with Advance
Rally but has now been updated to be used with both versions
of the same game (GT Advance 2: Rally Racing and Advance
Rally).

-= 3) Game Basics =-

-= Controls =-
The game controls should be pretty standard.
Directional pad - Move around in the menu. Move left and
right during a race.
A Button - Confirm in the menu. Accelerate during a race.
B Button - Cancel in the menu. Brake during a race.
L Button - Serves no purpose in the menu. Shift down during
a race only if you're using Manual (which I don't recommend)
R Button - Serves no purpose in the menu. Shift up during
a race.
Start Button - Serves no purpose in the menu except to go
through the title screen. Pause during a race.
Select Button - Serves no purpose at all.

-= 5) Different Modes =-
----------------------
-= a) World Rally =-
This mode of play is the bread and butter of Advance Rally.
This is the mode you will be playing for most of your
gaming experience with Advance Rally.
The object of this mode is to complete each of the 3 legs
as fast as possible.
In Leg 1, you must be in at least 9th place at the end of
the leg to proceed to the next leg. In Leg 2, you must be
in at least 6th to proceed and in Leg 3, you must be in at
least 3rd place to get a trophy.
1st place will get you a gold trophy, 2nd place will get you
a silver trophy and 3rd place will get you a bronze one. 1st
place will usually get you a new car.
There are 14 rounds in all, each having 3 legs, that take
you around the world to race! After you get Gold in all the
races in Normal Mode, it will unlock Expert Mode.

-= b) Time Trial =-
In this mode, you can race on any leg of any
country that you've already unlocked with any
car that is unlocked. The purpose of the Time
Trial mode is to beat the record for any given
leg. If you beat a time, it will be in the
Records in the Options. If the time is good,
you can send it to me!!
-= c) Single Race =-
In this mode you can race in any race that you
have already unlocked and you can pick which
leg you want to race on.
-= d) Practice =-
This mode is pretty self-explanatory. You can
pick any car that you have and practice with
it in a big open area with a few objects here
and there.
-= e) License =-
In this mode, you can obtain three licenses that
show your driving skills. There is a B, A, and S
License that you can get. There are 5 chapters in
each License (except S) and if you get Gold on each
one, you will unlock a new car! You cannot go into
the next license until you beat the previous one.
The only way to get a gold is to beat the Clear Time
Limit by at least 2 seconds. For silver, you must
beat the limit by 1 to 2 seconds. For bronze, you
must beat the limit by under a second. You cannot go
off the road or you will FAIL.

-= f) Co-Driver =-
This mode is a dull attempt to try to add some
more replay value by MTO. It is also a confusing
mode to many people and is not fun at all. This
mode is unlocked after you get gold on every
World Rally race.
Here is how it works:
The point to this mode is that you're not driving,
only giving the driver instructions, hence the name
Co-Driver. You do no need to worry about accelerating
or braking, the computer does it for you. The only
thing you must do it tell the driver which turn is
coming up: Easy, Medium, or Hard Left or Right. You
specify with the Left and Right on the directional pad.
Pressing Left once gives you an Easy Left, twice gives
you a Medium Left, and three times gives you a Hard Left.
Once you have your selection you must press A. The same
goes for the Right button.
-= g) Options =-
In Options Mode (USA), there are five icons.
Records
Here you can view the records from any leg of any
races. It only includes times from the Time Trial
and not times from racing in World Rally.
Sound
Here you can change the volume level of the music
and sound effects. You can also turn on or off the
race music.
Delete
Here you can delete the save and start over from
scratch.
Load
Here you can load the save from the last time you
saved. You must load every time you turn on the
game.
Save
Here you can save your progress through any of the
races. You MUST save after you have made progress
or you will lose your progress.
In Option Mode (JPN), there are three icons.
Record
Same as above.
Sound
Same as above.
Delete
Same as above.
-= h) Link =-
I can't try this because I don't know anyone
who has a copy of this game. I believe you
need another copy to play against someone so
I can't test this option out. I'm pretty sure
you can race against other people. I'm not sure
if you can play with up to 4 players or not.

First of all, I would like to thank Nintendo for making such a great
handheld gaming machine. I would also like to thank MTO (Motorsports
Software Technical Office) for an awesome realistic racing game for
the Gameboy Advance. I hope they continue to make great racing games
for the Gameboy Advance. I would also like to thank THQ for messing
up another racing game by MTO while bringing it over to the States.
